Olaudah Equiano Class Structure
Everyone comes from a different background and lives in different situations, but copious amounts of
people don t understand what they haven t experienced. In early American slavery and Puritan society,
class structure and religion leads to the unfair treatment of some individuals due to an inability to
understand those living in dissimilar situations, or with differing backgrounds. How others treat
people as a result of their living situation or background molds the way a person thinks through class
structure and religion as viewed in Puritan society and early American slavery. In early American
slavery and the Puritan society, class structure leads to a disability to understand people living in
dissimilar situations. As observed in early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Equiano s religion helps him through his
journey, but the Europeans don t understand how, as they have never practiced or experienced his
religion. Equiano uses his knowledge of his religion to help him understand information he is
unfamiliar with, I asked how the vessel could go? They told me they could not tell; but that there was
cloth put upon the masts by the help of ropes I saw, and then the vessel went on; and the white men
had some spell or magic they put in the water when they liked, in order to stop the vessel (Pg. 87 lines
64 69). In Equiano s religion, magic is a common belief. He doesn t actually understand the mechanics
of the ship, so he uses what is familiar to him his religion to help him understand. The Europeans don
t legitimately know how the boat works, but they don t use their religion to help them, they just don t
think about it. They can t understand why he would believe in magic or spirits or let them explain how
concepts work as they have never experienced his religion, and Christianity is all they know. In The
Crucible, Tituba comes from Barbados and a different religion that highly contrasts with the strict
Puritan religion, and though she claims to have fully converted, there are still elements the officials of
Salem don t understand about her or her religion. Tituba and Sarah Good tell Herrick that they re
going to Barbados, but he thinks they mean in death, so he describes it as Hell. Tituba corrects him
and says, Oh, it be no Hell in Barbados. Devil, him be pleasure man in Barbados, him be singin and
dancin in Barbados (Pg. 122). Puritans recognize the Devil as the worst possible entity one could
encounter. They believe the Devil sends out witches to do his bidding, and force them sign his book.
Unlike the Puritans, Tituba regards the

Outlining Two Theories of Development Essay
Theories of child development have been researched and published over the years. These researches
have been done by popular theorists four of whom are Piaget (1896 1980), Vygotsky (1896 1934),
Ausubel (1918 2008) and Kohlberg (1927 1987). First and foremost let me define the term theory. A
theory is a collection of related statements; the principal function of which is to summarize and
explain observations. It is in a sense an invention designed to make sense of what we know or suspect.
Developmental theory on the other hand is a systematic statement of principles and generalizations
that provides a coherent framework for understanding how and why people change as they grow older.
The writer in her essay will outline two theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Law and order, one sees a given social issue from the perspective of a fixed system of laws and
beliefs. Social contract, Here, one is concerned that obligations be based on calculations of overall
utility, what is really good for all. Universal Principles, what is right is following self chosen ethical
principles based on judgments that are universal, irreversible, and consistent. His theory holds that
moral reasoning, which is the basis for ethical behavior, has six identifiable developmental
constructive stages each more adequate at responding to moral dilemmas than the last. In studying
these, Kohlberg followed the development of moral judgment far beyond the ages originally studied
earlier by Piaget, who also claimed that logic and morality develop through constructive stages.
Expanding considerably upon this groundwork, it was determined that the process of moral
development was principally concerned with justice and that its development continued throughout
the lifespan, even spawning dialogue of philosophical implications of such research. Kohlberg studied
moral reasoning by presenting subjects with moral dilemmas. He would then categorize and classify
the reasoning used in the responses into one of six distinct stages, grouped into three levels: pre

Apartheid and The Future of South Africa in Cry, The...
Arthur, Napoleon, and Msimangu, all characters from Alan Paton s book, Cry, The Beloved Country,
are used to share Paton s points of view on the future of South Africa and the apartheid. Paton uses
these characters to represent specific views; Arthur expresses clearly that the apartheid isn t the right
way to progress as a country, Napoleon exemplifies how Paton thinks people should take the anti
apartheid effort, and Msimangu explicitly expresses Paton s ideas of an ideal leader. Arthur Jarvis was
the son of James Jarvis, an activist for the causes he believed in, and very well liked in the community.
This made him perfect to voice blame; Arthur Jarvis first passage in the book describes the issues that

Napoleon Letsisi, a man hired by James Jarvis to teach the people of Ndotsheni proper farming
techniques, is described by the author as a good man (Paton 285). Although being one of the last
characters introduced in the book, he has one of the stronger voices in the book, with his views and
attitudes taken towards others. By displaying Napoleon as an educated good man, Paton shows the
value of these characteristics for the future of South Africa. Napoleon s attitude towards the apartheid
is that it happened because of everyone. Umfundisi, it was the white man who gave us so little land, it
was the white man who took us away from the land to go to work. And we were ignorant also. It is all
these things together that have made this valley desolate. Therefore, what this good white man does is
only a repayment (Paton 302). On the same page as the previous quote, Napoleon says that he does his
work not for his patron, but for his people and country (Paton 302). Both the quote and the reference
help frame the way Paton portrays the people s point of view. The first quote shows that in Paton s
eyes, the people thought that the white man is what led to the problems for the people. This is further
supported by Arthur Jarvis passage, where he points out that the white population has evaded the
issues at hand instead of tackling them (Paton 179). The reference of what Napoleon

Haitian Bridge Scenario
SCENARIO The French government had donated that bridge to help the Haitian people. As I stated
before, this kind of bridge must not stay on the terrain for a long time. This time would be different
due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former
bridge for many purposes like to take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day
displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm. Since that day,
people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that bridge.
PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE
Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the first problem. The
road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered the way that we had to put our
bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we realized we had a solution. There was a private
land next to the perfect installation location to accommodate all material. I shifted up to the residence
with our sergeant who was a French interpreter. I knocked in her door and my partner explained the
entire situation. She listened us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was doing the safety of the work site. A large number of curious Haitians surrounded the place trying
not to miss any detail of the work. Our stuff was widespread, impairing the smooth progress of work.
Despite all this, we were all motivated and glad to help those people. We had a hard work long day. In
the end of day, we were exhausted. Next morning everything would start again. The place we were
was quite away from the city. Because of that, there was no internet signal available. We would be
nearly 15 days without contact with our families. Looking to the bright side of it was the opportunity

very dry place, they live in the African Savanna. Since I found the lions interesting, i ll tell you more
about them! You already know about where the lions live, but you haven t quite learned about what s it

Csikszentmihalyi s Happiness Revisited
Authored by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Happiness Revisited is a study on happiness and creativity.
Csikszentmihalyi defines happiness in terms of how we achieve it. He suggests that people achieve
happiness not by trying to look for it directly (609) but by looking for it directly. He also added that by
achieving control over the contents of our consciousness (609), a circuitous path begins, thus the
beginning of achieving happiness. Further, Csikszentmihalyi stated that just like happiness, success is
not to be pursued but ensued. This statement is ideally illustrated by Viktor Frankl s book on Man s
Search for meaning: Don t aim at success the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are
going to miss it (609). As quoted by Csikszentmihalyi that people often end up feeling that their lives
have been wasted, and instead of being filled with happiness their years were spent in anxiety and
boredom (608). He added that despite the comfort of today s modern living; the contentment does not

As an adult student without any academic intellectual stimulation for the past two decades, I consider
the best moments of happiness by advancing to the next level of courses towards the end of the

towards that academic path described includes many sleep nights, no weekends off and holidays spent

theory on optimal experience wherein the laboring experiences may not be as pleasant at the time of

Weather Conditions And Atmospheric Characteristics Within...
Climate change has been the topic of discussion as recent research analysis reveal both historic and
severe weather conditions impacting the environment on a global scale. Climate change has rerouted
societies thoughts toward how imperative it is in being competent and bringing awareness to
environmental issues. With focus on the United States, our country has experienced various types of
weather changes across the nation. As some regional areas could prepare for seasonal change weather
prediction is now at a challange. With a steady rise in global warming and extensive rain overflow,
one must think how human error has contributed in nature s response. Furthermore, with focus on the
south regional state of Texas, this research paper will discuss a current analysis in weather conditions
and atmospheric characteristics within the Houston area.
Texas is known for its wide rage in weather conditions and characteristics. The Gulf of
Mexico is the primary geographical feature affecting the area s climate and temperature. Being the
second largest state of the country, Texas consists of four regional areas known as, the Basin and
Range province region, great plains region, interior lowlands region, and gulf coastal plains region.
Each regional area of the state contributes to different weather, climate, and atmospheric conditions.
Texas is also divided into ten climate divisions which are notated as follows;

Learn and Develop New Painting Skills while Accomplishing...
The goal of my personal project was to learn and develop new painting skills while accomplishing
something that I have always wanted to do. My original plan was to learn all of the functions and
possibilities of the human brain, but I then decided that that was not something I wanted to pursue and
that it wasn t something I could personally connect with. The idea of learning to paint a tree sprung
when I brainstormed on my past ideas and interests, and I decided that that was something I would
like to pursue.
I have always been interested in the art of painting and the detail and effort you should out into it.
When I was in elementary we took a trip to the Toledo Art Museum and I saw a lot of really detailed
paintings and I ve always thought it would be cool of I could paint something myself. I have multiple
sketches of trees and doodles, but I thought a painting would be way more in depth. I have always just
found trees interesting, possibly because they serve purposes ranging from giving us fresh oxygen to
being a spot to swing from as a child.
My topic links closet to the Approaches to Learning category. It links to this are the best because I am
attempting to learn how to paint. One of the factors in approaches to learning includes communication,
in order for me to be successful I had to communicate with art teachers in order to plan a time and
place to learn how to paint. Another factor in approaches to learning is organizational skills and
attitudes towards work, in

Case Study Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
My diagnosis for Eleanor is pelvic floor dysfunction. The symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction are
constipation, frequent urination, pain during urination, and lower back pain. Pelvic floor dysfunction
is common in women. (Faubion et al., 2012). It may be caused by aging and childbirth. (Wang et al.,
2012). Eleanor is an 88 year old woman. She is also a mother of two, which means that she has given
birth at least once. These factors may have contributed to her condition. Eleanor has difficulties with
constipation. She also has an increased urge to urinate and has minor problems in controlling her
urinary process. She experiences pain when she urinates. Whenever she coughs, or carries anything,
she cannot help but wet herself. She urinates as often as ten times in the day and five times at night.
Lastly, Eleanor has chronic back pain that does not stop with over the counter pain medication. These
symptoms show that Eleanor has pelvic floor dysfunction.
Eleanor complained about a mild backache located in the regions of rib 11, lower on the left side and
rib 12, lower on the right. The cause of this back pain is the weakening ... Show more content on

One of the factors that contributes to pelvic floor dysfunction is aging. Pelvic floor dysfunction is also
common in older women. (Wang et al., 2012). Eleanor is 88 years old. The pelvic floor helps with the
bladder and bowel function. As people get older, the risk for pelvic floor dysfunction, bladder
incontinence, and bowel dysfunction increases. (Faubion et al., 2012). As people get older, their
muscles weaken. Since the pelvic floor consists of muscles, the weakening of these muscles may
cause frequent urination, inability to control urination, and lower back pain. (Love, 2015). These
symptoms are the symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction. Eleanor s age is a very important factor in
her acquiring pelvic floor dysfunction because it contributed to the weakening of her

Roles Of Mothers In Nazi Germany
Mothers and Their Roles in Nazi Germany
I am here today to discuss how gender played a critical role in the construction of the Nazi State, prior
to 1938. Specifically, I would like to focus my analysis on how and why the Nazis constructed a
conception of motherhood that defined the mother in relation to the state. For our purposes today, we
will examine two ideal German mothers and explore their similarities in order to understand how and
why the Nazis perceived mothers as public agents of the Volksgemeinschaft, or German community of
people. Primary documents will allow us to examine first hand experiences of mothers written within
the context of Nazi Germany.
But first, on must begin by understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mothers were supposed to demonstrate an absence of self identity and an abundance of devotion to
children. Hitler, in his speech to the National Socialist Women s Section (NSF), intertwined the thems
of nationalism and self sacrifice into one sentence. Hitler comments, What a man gives in courage on
the battlefield, the woman gives in eternal self sacrifice, in eternal pain and suffering (HCC 278).
Hitler makes motherhood into a nationalistic function by likening the mother to a soldier or an agent
of the state, while simultaneously emphasizing the self sacrifice necessary to be an ideal German
mother.
Having explored how the Nazis construct their definition of motherhood, let s begin our examination
of two ideal German mothers by using our primary documents. It is important for you to know that
they were both ordinary mothers, living under the Nazi regime prior to 1938. Please pay careful
attention to the similarities presented between these two mothers and also, their likeness to the Nazi
conception of motherhood.
The first mother that we will be examining is depicted in a painting that employs subdued or darkened
earth tone hues in order to represent a simple, rural, and natural lifestyle. The viewer of this image is
able to discern a rural landscape in the background in addition to a large tree in the upper right
foreground, which all indicate an agriculturally

Happy Chang Short Story Essay
My initial reaction to this piece of literature was one of happiness. I love sports and the mostly, the
only stories I love to read have sports tied into them one way or another. The fact that the setting took
place at a baseball game was one that got me interested into the story and grabbed my attention all the
way through. With saying this, I was really confused on how this storied played out. A jealous man
that has had a rough past umpiring a championship game that in the end he doesn t he finish umping?
Very confusing and hard to really know why the author set up and told the story the way he did. When
they first mentioned Lori Chang on page 7, I smiled because of what they described her as. I thought

Part II: Reaction after Class Discussion After the class discussion, I will have to say that I like the
story even more than a initially thought. Me liking the story more is mainly due to me understanding
the story better than I did the first time I read it. I am just an average reader and the discussion really
opened my eyes and made me realize all of the things that I didn t pick up on or were confused about
make since and all tie in to the importance of the story. A big take away from the discussion that I did
not even think about while reading the story the first time was the fact that it was a first person point
of view and that we only get Jacks perspective told us. This made me rethink the story in a way that
questioned if all the things Jack is saying is really the truth or is he just delusional. The question of
Why does Tim always side with Carl on calls that Jack made in which Carl argued came up in class
and it was discussed. I think with realizing that the story is from Jacks perspective really exposes this
question because Tim sided with Carl multiple times in a situation that Lori Chang was supposedly
throwing at their players heads (6,11). Then I wondered why would Jack be trying to protect Lori
Chang and luckily this was also brought up in our discussion. Reading the story, the first time, I didn t

Lord Of The Flies Society Analysis
Lord of the Flies
In life, there are a lot of things that hold people back from doing what they want to do. One of the
major things is the laws of society. William Golding s novel, Lord of the flies, illustrates what would
happen without society. After the plane crashes on the abandoned island during World War Two, a
group of british boys are left alone to survive and fight for their ife. When the boys are first dropped
off on the island, they still have their civilized behavior with them. It changes significantly throughout
the novel. Goldings intentions in writing the novel is to show how men are born evil but rely on
society to be kept in check. Without the necessary structure for everyday life that the industrialized
world provides the boys find that, with the lack of punishment or consequences for their actions, why
not do whatever they want. Losing all care of responsibility and only care about providing themselves
personal gratification. They ate most of the day, picking fruit wherever they could reach it and not
particular about ripeness or quality. They were used now to stomach aches and a form of chronic
diarrhea. Apart from food and sleep, they only found time to play, aimless and trivial, in the white
sand by the bright water. This passage conveys the lack of motivation that the boys have. It presents
them as lazy and unambitious, having adapted to their current environment and have no internal
conflict or problems with being stuck on a deserted

Quantum Leadership Vs. Leader Member Exchange Theory
Quantum Leadership vs. Leader Member Exchange Theory Leadership is the ability to guide and
inspire others to create a positive vision in prospects of enhancing an organization. Most leadership
styles seek to understand the needs of followers and to motivate them to succeed. The evaluation of
different leadership theories provides adequate insight into what makes a leader successful, so it s
important to analyze the traditional and new age leadership styles prior to application. Within the
subsequent analysis, contains a comprehensive depiction of the Quantum Leadership theory, the
Leader Member Exchange theory, a comparison of the two styles, and a personal conflict scenario

This theory supports transformation and promotes horizontal relationships amongst leaders and
followers to better reveal varying perspectives and areas within the system requiring restoration.
However, such vulnerable collaboration can allow for conflict amongst systems. The QLT supports the
concept of forming relationships during informal and formal organizations, which could be a strength
and a limitation (Malloch Porter O Grady, 2009). An informal gathering, for example during
lunchtime or personal time, can aid in terms of gaining raw insight of other s visions, however this can
also allow for conflict amongst followers. Opportunity is dependent upon uncertainty, so this can
positively induce creative thinking in those possessing leadership qualities (Malloch Porter O Grady,
2009). On the other hand, this type of freedom can be a limitation and allow for decreased
productivity in those lacking quality work ethic. QLT promotes continuous energy and exchange of
information within organizations, so this could be a potential disadvantage for introverted leaders. Due
to the flexibility of this form of leadership, it seems unrealistic in terms of producing time sensitive
results, however the implementation of the QLT would allow for less potential burn out in the
workplace.

How Heinrich Hertz Changed The World Of Radiology
So Good, It Hertz Heinrich Hertz was a German Physicist who was able to contribute many
discoveries and contributions to the world of Radiology. Hertz was known to have paved the way for
numerous advances in communication technology through the discovery of radio waves and also
confirming the Electromagnetic Theory made by James Clerk Maxwell. Though many people do not
know who Heinrich Hertz was, many know the word hertz (Hz) as a unit of measure of frequency that
was established in Heinrich Hertz honor during 1930. To further expand on the man named Heinrich
Hertz, looking at his early history, his radiologic contributions, and why those contributions were

It all started when Hertz was teaching and was simply showing his students electrical sparks. He soon
began testing out different sparks and seeing how the electricity jumped from each of the wire
receptors. He soon discovered that the vibration from the wires could radiate electromagnetic waves
that could pass through the air invisible. With these findings, Hertz created an apparatus called an
Oscillator. With using the Oscillator, Hertz was able to use high voltage A.C. electricity to create
sparks that could jump from one wire to the other. Thus, Hertz had not only produced radio waves, but
he was also able to detect them also. Once Hertz discovered radio waves, he was easily able to also
prove Maxwell s theory of electromagnetism over the course of three years by doing simple
experiments. By using his Oscillator apparatus, Hertz was able to prove that the waves that were being
produced were a form of electromagnetism because much like light, they could be reflected, refracted,
and produce standing waves. Hertz also was able to discover the Photoelectric Effect during one of his
experiments. Though he did not proceed with this discovery, it was picked up by Albert Einstein.
Einstein was able to win a Nobel Prize in Physics for the Photoelectric Effect even though technically
Hertz had discovered it years

Analysis Of Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown is an odd story with a deeper meaning than is apparent on the surface.
Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote his short story Young Goodman Brown in 1835 with what seems like the
intentions of gothic and romance features. However, looking further into the story of Young Goodman
Brown, it is clear to see that there is a possibility that the imagery displayed can lead to some
interesting theories behind Hawthorne s purpose, imagery, and symbolism in the text. Throughout the
story, Hawthorne includes psychological, emotional, and gloomy events that really gets the reader
thinking about their own personal experiences. However, finding the true meaning of this story is a
matter of how that person interprets the events. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still today there is disagreements over the short story Young Goodman Brown, but Michael Tritt
believes the psychology can give a good explanation for the true meaning. Tritt states in his journal,
none adequately examined this phenomenon of colouring (projection) as it is defined by psychology to
support his opinion that no one has thought to use psychology to get an understanding of Young
Goodman Brown (Tritt 114). Most readers assume that the emotions of Brown are from his
subconscious and guilt that is within him, but Tritt believes it to be defined as a case of projection.
Projection is defined in the journal is as follows: a person is projecting when he ascribes to another
person a trait or desire of his own that would be painful of his ego to admit. Since the act of projecting
is an unconscious mechanism, it is not communicated to others nor is it even recognized as a
projection by the person himself...(Tritt 114). Projection would allow a much more personal
relationship with the story and create an important connection between literature and reader. Imagery
is used throughout the whole story of Young Goodman Brown, but Richard Predmore believes that
Brown s experience should include to be seen as sense of unconsciousness. Richard Predmore wrote
the journal Lachrymal Imagery in Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown to discuss the relationship
between allegorical, moral, philosophical, and

Patriotism And Blind Patriotism
Introduction
In the United States, it is not uncommon to see an American flag in someone s yard or on a bumper
sticker on a car. Americans are patriotic and this is evident throughout the year and especially on
Independence Day. The American flag, the pledge of allegiance, and the national anthem are all
national symbols. To many Americans, these symbols represent what the country stands for which is
freedom and justice for all. Patriotism is common in the United States and it is this love of nation, the
pride that one feels, and the loyalty to the country that many believe is what being an American is all
about. Patriotism is ingrained in this nation since its founding and continues to be important today.
Moreover, I will examine not only patriotism but also religion and party identification. Although
people in the United States are attending Church at lower rates; I believe that religion has an effect on
party identification and patriotism. I am especially interested in the relationship between blind

What Is The Decline Of Newspaper In The 1930 s
The early 1900 s could be called the consolidation era as technological changes and competition for
advertising dollars increased the competitive drive for circulation numbers. In response to these
changes, many newspaper chains grew as smaller newspapers were gobbled up and absorbed into the
chains or became obsolete. Complementing the glitz of the roaring twenties, a new form of journalism
emerged that appealed to a different type of reader with its illustrious smaller size. But, as economic
conditions worsened into the 1930 s, circulation increased while revenues did not. This is mostly due
to advertising dollars being split between radio and television as both gained in popularity. By 1945,
newspapers had declined to their lowest and continued to drop further alongside continued
consolidation efforts into the 1970 s. While daily circulation declined, chains and printing expenses
grew. The closer we got to the turn of the century and the digital age, readership dropped significantly
as young readers pursued other options for news (Dominick, 2013). ... Show more content on

Major publications have been purchased by single owners, such as, the Washington Post by

uncertain for the industry. But, the industry struggles to grasp the interest of more readers with failed
attempts to charge for online viewing which only demonstrates their misunderstanding of the internet.
Dominick declares that the reason readers today rebuked the idea of paying for a subscription is
because newspapers gave it for free at first but in reality internet users tend to rebuke the idea of

Abstinence-Only Sexual Education
Bryant Kollie
Persuasive Paper
Comprehensive Sexual Education is More Effective than Abstinence Only Sexual Education A
mutually faithful monogamous relationship in the context of marriage is the expected standard of
human sexual activity. Different people will disagree about the veracity of this statement, but we know
that it does not reflect the experiences of the majority of young people (Collins 1). Sexual education is
a mandatory part of every grade school curriculum and is funded by the federal government. The
content of sexuality education curricula in America varies widely by region, by school district, and
sometimes, by classroom (Collins 1). I believe that because of this fact that it should be taught in a one
consistent way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The classes proved information about contraceptives, STDs and HIV prevention. It also is age
appropriate and scientifically explained. Collins says it well that by denying teens the full range of
information regarding human sexuality, abstinence only education fails to provide young people with
the information they need to protect their health and well being. Students when asked survey by the
Kasier Family Foundation said that they knew more and felt better prepared to handle different
situations. Abstinence only education just chooses to avoid it and does not take into account students
who decide a different path. Abstinence only education supports say that by teaching the abstinence

information about contraception does not increase adolescent sexual activity....[it only] increased

How Causation Is A Relation Between Events Or States Of...
1. (a) In Chisholm s paper, Human freedom and the self, Chisholm notes that causation is a relation
between events or states of affairs. For example, if the roof in my house cave in during a hurricane this
would be something that was caused by several other events such as the roof being too weak, the rain
pressure being too much for the roof to hold, excessive rain, etc. With this term, Chisholm created two
other narrower terms to specifically describe the different types of causations. The first causation is
transeunt which is when one event or state of affairs causes other events or state of affairs. An
example of Transeunt causation is if I threw a piece of paper in a recycling bin my event would be
recycling but the unknown event cause by this event would be more oxygen in the world for people to
breath in because that paper can be reused instead of having to cut more trees down and cutting down
our oxygen. The second type of causation would be Immanent causation, which is when an agent (or
person) causes an event or state of affairs. An example of Immanent causation is me recycling the
paper because I m the agent who recycled the piece of paper, it wasn t done by another event. During
the paper, Chisholm reflects on two objections and takes his defense on both. The first one being
simply a fact of (a) He could have done otherwise means no more nor less than and (b) If he could
have chosen to do otherwise, he would have done otherwise. The second objective has a

No sugaring experience is the same because their are several different factors and structures in each
arrangement. Although, one thing that most sugar babies participate is is having sex with their sugar
daddy in order to receive and allowance, and this is where the sugar baby relationship begins to slip
into the realms of sex work rather than a relationship. However, for other sugar babies, sex isn t on the
table until they form a relationship. Since sugar baby relationships are so unique it s hard to have one
definition of a sugar baby. But, Motyl Jacqueline, successfully categorizes the levels of the sugar baby
dynamic to see whether or not they re engaging in legal activity according to Section 230 of
Communications Decency Act. Jacqueline writes, However, since the 1970s, courts have agreed that
sexual acts are not deemed to fall within the realm of prostitution if there is something accompanying
the sex, such as companionship, dinner, or even cleaning the house. This is why the sugaring
relationship is so hard to define according to the law. SeekingArrangement advertises the sugar baby
relationship as only a mentoring companionship between two people, but for some sugar babies the

The Recorded Music Industry
The recorded music industry is currently experiencing difficulties unimaginable during the 1980s,
which were a period of growth, consolidation, and technical advancement. The album sector was still
strong across the industry, something that became a financial boom from the mid 80s onwards with the
advent and subsequent popularity of compact discs (CD). CDs became the dominant carrier of
recorded music and quickly superseded vinyl albums. This was a major fillip to record companies, as
fans bought CDs of their favourite old vinyl albums, thus classic albums artists from the 60s and 70s
sold substantial amounts of CD versions of their old album catalogue. As many major record
companies were part of multinational electric goods companies, a valid argument can be that record
companies were providing the software (CDs) for the multinationals hardware (CD players). To
illustrate this point, the electrical goods giants Philips and Sony owned record companies, and as
stated on the Philips website also collaborated in the research and development of the compact disc.
The effect of owning both aspects of the process resulted in profits being monopolised by the
multinationals.
The current malaise afflicting the recorded music industry can be traced to the development of digital
downloads to the market. Recorded music can now be compressed and made available in a digitally
transferable format known as MP3. However, due to the digital nature of the format it is easier to

Stereotypes In The Movie World War Z
What differs the movie World War Z from other zombie movies is the acting; it isn t typical zombie
acting. Frequently through the movie, the creatures aren t COMPLETELY insane. Little, nearly
unnoticeable movements the actors and actresses made created a more realistic type of crazy cannibal
effect, making the individual have more of a horrifying zombie overtake experience, while the real
them is silently trapped inside.
Each actors role they played in the movie was hit at its fullest potential. The main character, Brad Pitt,
had realistic facial expressions, along with a strong personality that intensified the movie. He
particularly had more close up shots than any other characters in the movie, and was on camera the
most, being the main character. His acting made the audience portray him as a very independent
individual, although he has family. The character is also extremely mentally stable, despite what

Music and Cultural Identity
Some may say music is just music; a song is just a song. However, music plays an enormous role in
our psychology, because a single song has the ability to bring about many kinds of thoughts and
emotions in the listener. Music is subtly one of the main factors in which people identify with certain
groups and establish their belonging in society. It shapes people s perspectives on how the world
functions and the roles they play within it. Music can function the same way in a culture; it can reflect
many of the culture s values and ideologies. Music can have many effects on culture and the people s
idea of who they think they are within that culture. Music can serve in a way that promotes cultural
identity and pride, yet it could also play a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their sense of belongingness gives the people pride, because the songs embody the rich history,
culture, and values of Mexico. As a result, people in in Mexican communities are able to proudly
identify themselves as Mexicans. With a vast amount of culturally proud people, Mexican culture will
ultimately be kept alive.
Music can also be a differentiating factor for social and economic classes. In lecture twelve (Roma
music), the clear distinction between the romungre and vlachs musicals groups proved that music
influenced this separation. The types of instruments used, or lack of, tell of the people s standing in the
social and economic ladders. For instance, romungre music is professional, urban, and was played in
elaborate settings. In the video excerpt shown during lecture, the well dressed man played the violin,
while the other members played other various instruments such as the cimbalom and piano. The
possession of the various instruments is clear evidence that the people in that community have extra
money to spend on these luxurious items. In addition to the aesthetics of the performance, the sounds
produced by these instruments also suggest a level of sophistication and class. The song began with a
sow tempo, which offers a smooth timbre. The tempo then sped up, which showed the virtuosity of
performers, suggesting the affluence of the performers, because he was

The Manufacturing of Neoprontosil and Other Products
The manufacturing of Neoprontosil and other products took place at the Winthrop Chemical Company
Inc.. The company was a 50/50 joint venture of Sterling Winthrop, also known as Sterling Drug, and
I.G. Farben, a conglomerate formed in 1926 through the merging of eight leading German chemical
manufacturers including Bayer, a German chemical and pharmaceutical company. [6, 13] I.G. Farben
was notorious for its role in the Holocaust as it was involved in many war crimes. The company
produced large quantities of Zyklon B, a cyanide based pesticide, necessary for the gas chambers at
various concentration camps during the Holocaust. [14] Sterling Winthrop was an American
pharmaceutical company founded in 1901 by William E. Weiss and Albert H. Deibold to manufacture
and sell a pain relieving preparation called Neuralgine . [15]
During the 1930s, Winthrop Chemical Company Inc. became a leader in the pharmaceutical industry
with the introduction of renowned products including Salvarsan and Neo Salvarsan (the first effective
drugs in the treatment of syphilis), Prontosil and Neoprontosil (the first of the sulfa drugs), and
Atabrine (the synthetic antimalarial that replaced quinine during WWII). [15] The company eventually
expanded overseas in 1938 and operated seventy plants in forty countries. [13, 15]

My College and Career Choices Essay

State University of Columbus and Miami University are the colleges that I feel would foremost

what interests me most about the college. College is not cheap or easy but it is doable. Tuition for
OSU is $11,285 per semester (collegecalc.org). With a larger college there is going to be a larger
enrollment number. According to (osu.edu) there is an average of 50,000 students enrolled at OSU.
Having a large variety of choices in majors is convenient. A total of 175 majors are offered at OSU
(osu.edu).The recommended ACT score ranges from 26 30 (osu.edu). Scholarships and financial aid
are both offered at OSU. The scholarships offered at OSU are various types of merit scholarships
awarded to those students who qualify (osu.edu).Financial aid at OSU is like other universities ,they
have grants loans and work study( osu.edu).Like Ohio University , OSU offers extracurricular known
as intramural sports and many other programs. Although it is not my first choice if I get the chance I
would become a Buckeye. Last but certainly not least, Miami University of Oxford, Ohio would be
my third choice. Miami University is another well known college that also has a rural location. This

The Political Philosophies Of Thomas Hobbes
Aisha Gupta
Mr. Ochs
World History/Block F
15 December 2014
Philosophers and Philosophies
The political philosophies of Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Karl Marx all vary in their political
philosophies: Thomas Hobbes focused on the power with one, central, absolute monarch, upon one
man or one assembly of men ; John Locke emphasized that government not rule over the natural rights
of every being, and that they are apart from any superior power ; and Karl Marx outlined the
government leading economic exchanges so that the common people could prosper, as mentioned in
The Communist Manifesto. Of all, the ideas of John Locke most relate to those of Adam Smith and
ultimately our world today. The social contract of Thomas Hobbes speaks mostly of how people only
care about themselves, and that will not change. For this reason, humans should not have freedoms,
but instead be ruled by an absolute monarchy. This monarchy will ensure that everything is systematic
and everyone is compliant. Through his quote from the Leviathan, he makes clear that the only way
for a government to succeed is if there is one central power guiding all people fearlessly. On the other
hand, John Locke emphasized that all people were naturally the opposite: sensible and honorable. At
birth, everyone was granted three distinct rights. Each person would have their own natural right to
life and property, and to speak and live freely, also known as liberty. The government was not meant to
interfere with the

The Three Branches Of The Government
The Three Branches of the Government The Government has three branches for law making. When a
law is being created, it starts at the Legislative, and then gets passed to the Executive branch, then to
the Judicial branch. Each branch has their own area of the law that they look at. In the end, it is
decided if the law will be issued to the people. When the law is being created, it starts at the
Legislative branch. In the branch, Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate and the House of
Representatives. In Senate, there are 100 senators, making it two senators from each state. Once
elected, they will serve a six year term in Senate. The Vice President is known as the head of Senate,
but is only involved in the voting when there is a tie. They also approve the recommendations made
by the President to the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, federal courts, and other posts. All the Senate
must ratify all of the treaties by a two third vote. In the House of Representatives, there are 435
representatives. Each state has a certain number of representatives depending on the population. An
example of this would be New York and Rhode Island. New York would have more representatives
because the population is much bigger in the busy state then Rhode Island s would be. This is decided
by the yearly Census. If it shifts, a representative could be added or subtracted. The representatives
elected, will serve a two year term. They also elect the Speaker of the House, who is the head. . The

Government Over Regulation The United States has slowly conformed to the new ways of the Western
policy of democratic socialism in order to achieve equality in the eyes of the law, but with this the
necessary regulatory compliance of all citizens must be provided. If all American citizens do agree to
abide by the rules implemented by the United States, the freedom that they came here for would be
nonexistent, and they would no longer have the ability to truly live the infamous American dream .
The economy is also beginning to move away from the capitalist ways and move toward an ideology
of equality among the wealth and incomes of the people, and the only apparent way to achieve ...

Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves (Tanner 1).
Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize winner, Chief Economist at Roosevelt Institute, best selling author, and
a professor at Columbia University explains the problems with the current economy in the United
States in his book Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy. He explains that even though the
one percent of the United States population is living a prosperous life, the remaining ninety nine
percent are being hurt by this reality (Stiglitz 8). From this it can be concluded that the regulations
currently being pressed upon the majority of the population are hurting more than benefitting.
Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are
controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state (Oxford Dictionary 1). There has been
a longing to find a balance between this and socialism. The laissez faire is the commonly known
economic idea of a government refraining from interfering in the free market in order to allow the
people to control their own means of production and selling of goods. This seems to be ruined by the
over regulation of the economy by the government because much of the US economic benefits rely on
the free market. Also, capitalism allows for people to voluntarily take part in making their own wealth.
Without this, competition among businesses would be gone and

  • 2. Olaudah Equiano Class Structure Everyone comes from a different background and lives in different situations, but copious amounts of people don t understand what they haven t experienced. In early American slavery and Puritan society, class structure and religion leads to the unfair treatment of some individuals due to an inability to understand those living in dissimilar situations, or with differing backgrounds. How others treat people as a result of their living situation or background molds the way a person thinks through class structure and religion as viewed in Puritan society and early American slavery. In early American slavery and the Puritan society, class structure leads to a disability to understand people living in dissimilar situations. As observed in early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Equiano s religion helps him through his journey, but the Europeans don t understand how, as they have never practiced or experienced his religion. Equiano uses his knowledge of his religion to help him understand information he is unfamiliar with, I asked how the vessel could go? They told me they could not tell; but that there was cloth put upon the masts by the help of ropes I saw, and then the vessel went on; and the white men had some spell or magic they put in the water when they liked, in order to stop the vessel (Pg. 87 lines 64 69). In Equiano s religion, magic is a common belief. He doesn t actually understand the mechanics of the ship, so he uses what is familiar to him his religion to help him understand. The Europeans don t legitimately know how the boat works, but they don t use their religion to help them, they just don t think about it. They can t understand why he would believe in magic or spirits or let them explain how concepts work as they have never experienced his religion, and Christianity is all they know. In The Crucible, Tituba comes from Barbados and a different religion that highly contrasts with the strict Puritan religion, and though she claims to have fully converted, there are still elements the officials of Salem don t understand about her or her religion. Tituba and Sarah Good tell Herrick that they re going to Barbados, but he thinks they mean in death, so he describes it as Hell. Tituba corrects him and says, Oh, it be no Hell in Barbados. Devil, him be pleasure man in Barbados, him be singin and dancin in Barbados (Pg. 122). Puritans recognize the Devil as the worst possible entity one could encounter. They believe the Devil sends out witches to do his bidding, and force them sign his book. Unlike the Puritans, Tituba regards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Outlining Two Theories of Development Essay Theories of child development have been researched and published over the years. These researches have been done by popular theorists four of whom are Piaget (1896 1980), Vygotsky (1896 1934), Ausubel (1918 2008) and Kohlberg (1927 1987). First and foremost let me define the term theory. A theory is a collection of related statements; the principal function of which is to summarize and explain observations. It is in a sense an invention designed to make sense of what we know or suspect. Developmental theory on the other hand is a systematic statement of principles and generalizations that provides a coherent framework for understanding how and why people change as they grow older. The writer in her essay will outline two theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Law and order, one sees a given social issue from the perspective of a fixed system of laws and beliefs. Social contract, Here, one is concerned that obligations be based on calculations of overall utility, what is really good for all. Universal Principles, what is right is following self chosen ethical principles based on judgments that are universal, irreversible, and consistent. His theory holds that moral reasoning, which is the basis for ethical behavior, has six identifiable developmental constructive stages each more adequate at responding to moral dilemmas than the last. In studying these, Kohlberg followed the development of moral judgment far beyond the ages originally studied earlier by Piaget, who also claimed that logic and morality develop through constructive stages. Expanding considerably upon this groundwork, it was determined that the process of moral development was principally concerned with justice and that its development continued throughout the lifespan, even spawning dialogue of philosophical implications of such research. Kohlberg studied moral reasoning by presenting subjects with moral dilemmas. He would then categorize and classify the reasoning used in the responses into one of six distinct stages, grouped into three levels: pre conventional, conventional ... • 4. Apartheid and The Future of South Africa in Cry, The... Arthur, Napoleon, and Msimangu, all characters from Alan Paton s book, Cry, The Beloved Country, are used to share Paton s points of view on the future of South Africa and the apartheid. Paton uses these characters to represent specific views; Arthur expresses clearly that the apartheid isn t the right way to progress as a country, Napoleon exemplifies how Paton thinks people should take the anti apartheid effort, and Msimangu explicitly expresses Paton s ideas of an ideal leader. Arthur Jarvis was the son of James Jarvis, an activist for the causes he believed in, and very well liked in the community. This made him perfect to voice blame; Arthur Jarvis first passage in the book describes the issues that the exploitation of the natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Napoleon Letsisi, a man hired by James Jarvis to teach the people of Ndotsheni proper farming techniques, is described by the author as a good man (Paton 285). Although being one of the last characters introduced in the book, he has one of the stronger voices in the book, with his views and attitudes taken towards others. By displaying Napoleon as an educated good man, Paton shows the value of these characteristics for the future of South Africa. Napoleon s attitude towards the apartheid is that it happened because of everyone. Umfundisi, it was the white man who gave us so little land, it was the white man who took us away from the land to go to work. And we were ignorant also. It is all these things together that have made this valley desolate. Therefore, what this good white man does is only a repayment (Paton 302). On the same page as the previous quote, Napoleon says that he does his work not for his patron, but for his people and country (Paton 302). Both the quote and the reference help frame the way Paton portrays the people s point of view. The first quote shows that in Paton s eyes, the people thought that the white man is what led to the problems for the people. This is further supported by Arthur Jarvis passage, where he points out that the white population has evaded the issues at hand instead of tackling them (Paton 179). The reference of what Napoleon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Haitian Bridge Scenario SCENARIO The French government had donated that bridge to help the Haitian people. As I stated before, this kind of bridge must not stay on the terrain for a long time. This time would be different due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former bridge for many purposes like to take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm. Since that day, people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that bridge. PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the first problem. The road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered the way that we had to put our bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we realized we had a solution. There was a private land next to the perfect installation location to accommodate all material. I shifted up to the residence with our sergeant who was a French interpreter. In the end of day, we were exhausted. Next morning everything would start again. The place we were was quite away from the city. Because of that, there was no internet signal available. • 7. Csikszentmihalyi s Happiness Revisited Authored by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Happiness Revisited is a study on happiness and creativity. Csikszentmihalyi defines happiness in terms of how we achieve it. He suggests that people achieve happiness not by trying to look for it directly (609) but by looking for it directly. He also added that by achieving control over the contents of our consciousness (609), a circuitous path begins, thus the beginning of achieving happiness. Further, Csikszentmihalyi stated that just like happiness, success is not to be pursued but ensued. This statement is ideally illustrated by Viktor Frankl s book on Man s Search for meaning: Don t aim at success the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it (609). As quoted by Csikszentmihalyi that people often end up feeling that their lives have been wasted, and instead of being filled with happiness their years were spent in anxiety and boredom (608). He added that despite the comfort of today s modern living; the contentment does not seem to apply in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Climate change has been the topic of discussion as recent research analysis reveal both historic and severe weather conditions impacting the environment on a global scale. Climate change has rerouted societies thoughts toward how imperative it is in being competent and bringing awareness to environmental issues. With focus on the United States, our country has experienced various types of weather changes across the nation. As some regional areas could prepare for seasonal change weather prediction is now at a challange. With a steady rise in global warming and extensive rain overflow, one must think how human error has contributed in nature s response. Furthermore, with focus on the south regional state of Texas, this research paper will discuss a current analysis in weather conditions and atmospheric characteristics within the Houston area. Texas is known for its wide rage in weather conditions and characteristics. The Gulf of Mexico is the primary geographical feature affecting the area s climate and temperature. Being the second largest state of the country, Texas consists of four regional areas known as, the Basin and Range province region, great plains region, interior lowlands region, and gulf coastal plains region. Each regional area of the state contributes to different weather, climate, and atmospheric conditions. • 9. Learn and Develop New Painting Skills while Accomplishing... The goal of my personal project was to learn and develop new painting skills while accomplishing something that I have always wanted to do. My original plan was to learn all of the functions and possibilities of the human brain, but I then decided that that was not something I wanted to pursue and that it wasn t something I could personally connect with. The idea of learning to paint a tree sprung when I brainstormed on my past ideas and interests, and I decided that that was something I would like to pursue. I have always been interested in the art of painting and the detail and effort you should out into it. When I was in elementary we took a trip to the Toledo Art Museum and I saw a lot of really detailed paintings and I ve always thought it would be cool of I could paint something myself. I have multiple sketches of trees and doodles, but I thought a painting would be way more in depth. I have always just found trees interesting, possibly because they serve purposes ranging from giving us fresh oxygen to being a spot to swing from as a child. My topic links closet to the Approaches to Learning category. It links to this are the best because I am attempting to learn how to paint. One of the factors in approaches to learning includes communication, in order for me to be successful I had to communicate with art teachers in order to plan a time and place to learn how to paint. Another factor in approaches to learning is organizational skills and attitudes towards work, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Case Study Pelvic Floor Dysfunction My diagnosis for Eleanor is pelvic floor dysfunction. The symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction are constipation, frequent urination, pain during urination, and lower back pain. Pelvic floor dysfunction is common in women. (Faubion et al., 2012). It may be caused by aging and childbirth. (Wang et al., 2012). Eleanor is an 88 year old woman. She is also a mother of two, which means that she has given birth at least once. These factors may have contributed to her condition. Eleanor has difficulties with constipation. She also has an increased urge to urinate and has minor problems in controlling her urinary process. She experiences pain when she urinates. Whenever she coughs, or carries anything, she cannot help but wet herself. She urinates as often as ten times in the day and five times at night. Lastly, Eleanor has chronic back pain that does not stop with over the counter pain medication. These symptoms show that Eleanor has pelvic floor dysfunction. Eleanor complained about a mild backache located in the regions of rib 11, lower on the left side and rib 12, lower on the right. The cause of this back pain is the weakening ... Since the pelvic floor consists of muscles, the weakening of these muscles may cause frequent urination, inability to control urination, and lower back pain. (Love, 2015). • 11. Roles Of Mothers In Nazi Germany Mothers and Their Roles in Nazi Germany I am here today to discuss how gender played a critical role in the construction of the Nazi State, prior to 1938. Specifically, I would like to focus my analysis on how and why the Nazis constructed a conception of motherhood that defined the mother in relation to the state. For our purposes today, we will examine two ideal German mothers and explore their similarities in order to understand how and why the Nazis perceived mothers as public agents of the Volksgemeinschaft, or German community of people. Primary documents will allow us to examine first hand experiences of mothers written within the context of Nazi Germany. But first, on must begin by understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mothers were supposed to demonstrate an absence of self identity and an abundance of devotion to children. Hitler, in his speech to the National Socialist Women s Section (NSF), intertwined the thems of nationalism and self sacrifice into one sentence. Hitler comments, What a man gives in courage on the battlefield, the woman gives in eternal self sacrifice, in eternal pain and suffering (HCC 278). Hitler makes motherhood into a nationalistic function by likening the mother to a soldier or an agent of the state, while simultaneously emphasizing the self sacrifice necessary to be an ideal German mother. Having explored how the Nazis construct their definition of motherhood, let s begin our examination of two ideal German mothers by using our primary documents. It is important for you to know that they were both ordinary mothers, living under the Nazi regime prior to 1938. Please pay careful attention to the similarities presented between these two mothers and also, their likeness to the Nazi conception of motherhood. The first mother that we will be examining is depicted in a painting that employs subdued or darkened earth tone hues in order to represent a simple, rural, and natural lifestyle. I love sports and the mostly, the only stories I love to read have sports tied into them one way or another. The fact that the setting took place at a baseball game was one that got me interested into the story and grabbed my attention all the way through. With saying this, I was really confused on how this storied played out. A jealous man that has had a rough past umpiring a championship game that in the end he doesn t he finish umping? A big take away from the discussion that I did not even think about while reading the story the first time was the fact that it was a first person point of view and that we only get Jacks perspective told us. This made me rethink the story in a way that questioned if all the things Jack is saying is really the truth or is he just delusional. The question of Why does Tim always side with Carl on calls that Jack made in which Carl argued came up in class and it was discussed. I think with realizing that the story is from Jacks perspective really exposes this question because Tim sided with Carl multiple times in a situation that Lori Chang was supposedly throwing at their players heads (6,11). William Golding s novel, Lord of the flies, illustrates what would happen without society. After the plane crashes on the abandoned island during World War Two, a group of british boys are left alone to survive and fight for their ife. When the boys are first dropped off on the island, they still have their civilized behavior with them. It changes significantly throughout the novel. Goldings intentions in writing the novel is to show how men are born evil but rely on society to be kept in check. Without the necessary structure for everyday life that the industrialized world provides the boys find that, with the lack of punishment or consequences for their actions, why not do whatever they want. Losing all care of responsibility and only care about providing themselves personal gratification. They ate most of the day, picking fruit wherever they could reach it and not particular about ripeness or quality. They were used now to stomach aches and a form of chronic diarrhea. Apart from food and sleep, they only found time to play, aimless and trivial, in the white sand by the bright water. This passage conveys the lack of motivation that the boys have. Hertz was known to have paved the way for numerous advances in communication technology through the discovery of radio waves and also confirming the Electromagnetic Theory made by James Clerk Maxwell. Though many people do not know who Heinrich Hertz was, many know the word hertz (Hz) as a unit of measure of frequency that was established in Heinrich Hertz honor during 1930. He soon began testing out different sparks and seeing how the electricity jumped from each of the wire receptors. He soon discovered that the vibration from the wires could radiate electromagnetic waves that could pass through the air invisible. With these findings, Hertz created an apparatus called an Oscillator. With using the Oscillator, Hertz was able to use high voltage A.C. electricity to create sparks that could jump from one wire to the other. Thus, Hertz had not only produced radio waves, but he was also able to detect them also. Once Hertz discovered radio waves, he was easily able to also prove Maxwell s theory of electromagnetism over the course of three years by doing simple experiments. By using his Oscillator apparatus, Hertz was able to prove that the waves that were being produced were a form of electromagnetism because much like light, they could be reflected, refracted, and produce standing waves. Most readers assume that the emotions of Brown are from his subconscious and guilt that is within him, but Tritt believes it to be defined as a case of projection. Projection is defined in the journal is as follows: a person is projecting when he ascribes to another person a trait or desire of his own that would be painful of his ego to admit. Since the act of projecting is an unconscious mechanism, it is not communicated to others nor is it even recognized as a projection by the person himself...(Tritt 114). Americans are patriotic and this is evident throughout the year and especially on Independence Day. The American flag, the pledge of allegiance, and the national anthem are all national symbols. To many Americans, these symbols represent what the country stands for which is freedom and justice for all. Patriotism is common in the United States and it is this love of nation, the pride that one feels, and the loyalty to the country that many believe is what being an American is all about. Patriotism is ingrained in this nation since its founding and continues to be important today. Moreover, I will examine not only patriotism but also religion and party identification. Although people in the United States are attending Church at lower rates; I believe that religion has an effect on party identification and patriotism. What Is The Decline Of Newspaper In The 1930 s The early 1900 s could be called the consolidation era as technological changes and competition for advertising dollars increased the competitive drive for circulation numbers. In response to these changes, many newspaper chains grew as smaller newspapers were gobbled up and absorbed into the chains or became obsolete. Complementing the glitz of the roaring twenties, a new form of journalism emerged that appealed to a different type of reader with its illustrious smaller size. But, as economic conditions worsened into the 1930 s, circulation increased while revenues did not. This is mostly due to advertising dollars being split between radio and television as both gained in popularity. By 1945, newspapers had declined to their lowest and continued to drop further alongside continued consolidation efforts into the 1970 s. (a) In Chisholm s paper, Human freedom and the self, Chisholm notes that causation is a relation between events or states of affairs. For example, if the roof in my house cave in during a hurricane this would be something that was caused by several other events such as the roof being too weak, the rain pressure being too much for the roof to hold, excessive rain, etc. With this term, Chisholm created two other narrower terms to specifically describe the different types of causations. The first causation is transeunt which is when one event or state of affairs causes other events or state of affairs. An example of Transeunt causation is if I threw a piece of paper in a recycling bin my event would be recycling but the unknown event cause by this event would be more oxygen in the world for people to breath in because that paper can be reused instead of having to cut more trees down and cutting down our oxygen. The second type of causation would be Immanent causation, which is when an agent (or person) causes an event or state of affairs. An example of Immanent causation is me recycling the paper because I m the agent who recycled the piece of paper, it wasn t done by another event. During the paper, Chisholm reflects on two objections and takes his defense on both. • 26. The Recorded Music Industry The recorded music industry is currently experiencing difficulties unimaginable during the 1980s, which were a period of growth, consolidation, and technical advancement. The album sector was still strong across the industry, something that became a financial boom from the mid 80s onwards with the advent and subsequent popularity of compact discs (CD). CDs became the dominant carrier of recorded music and quickly superseded vinyl albums. This was a major fillip to record companies, as fans bought CDs of their favourite old vinyl albums, thus classic albums artists from the 60s and 70s sold substantial amounts of CD versions of their old album catalogue. As many major record companies were part of multinational electric goods companies, a valid argument can be that record companies were providing the software (CDs) for the multinationals hardware (CD players). To illustrate this point, the electrical goods giants Philips and Sony owned record companies, and as stated on the Philips website also collaborated in the research and development of the compact disc. The effect of owning both aspects of the process resulted in profits being monopolised by the multinationals. The current malaise afflicting the recorded music industry can be traced to the development of digital downloads to the market. • 34. The Political Philosophies Of Thomas Hobbes Aisha Gupta Mr. Ochs World History/Block F 15 December 2014 Philosophers and Philosophies The political philosophies of Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Karl Marx all vary in their political philosophies: Thomas Hobbes focused on the power with one, central, absolute monarch, upon one man or one assembly of men ; John Locke emphasized that government not rule over the natural rights of every being, and that they are apart from any superior power ; and Karl Marx outlined the government leading economic exchanges so that the common people could prosper, as mentioned in The Communist Manifesto. Of all, the ideas of John Locke most relate to those of Adam Smith and ultimately our world today. The social contract of Thomas Hobbes speaks mostly of how people only care about themselves, and that will not change. For this reason, humans should not have freedoms, but instead be ruled by an absolute monarchy. This monarchy will ensure that everything is systematic and everyone is compliant. Through his quote from the Leviathan, he makes clear that the only way for a government to succeed is if there is one central power guiding all people fearlessly. On the other hand, John Locke emphasized that all people were naturally the opposite: sensible and honorable. At birth, everyone was granted three distinct rights. Each person would have their own natural right to life and property, and to speak and live freely, also known as liberty. The government was not meant to interfere with the ... • 35. The Three Branches Of The Government The Three Branches of the Government The Government has three branches for law making. When a law is being created, it starts at the Legislative, and then gets passed to the Executive branch, then to the Judicial branch. Each branch has their own area of the law that they look at. In the end, it is decided if the law will be issued to the people. When the law is being created, it starts at the Legislative branch. In the branch, Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. In Senate, there are 100 senators, making it two senators from each state. Once elected, they will serve a six year term in Senate. The Vice President is known as the head of Senate, but is only involved in the voting when there is a tie. They also approve the recommendations made by the President to the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, federal courts, and other posts. All the Senate must ratify all of the treaties by a two third vote. In the House of Representatives, there are 435 representatives. Each state has a certain number of representatives depending on the population. An example of this would be New York and Rhode Island. New York would have more representatives because the population is much bigger in the busy state then Rhode Island s would be. This is decided by the yearly Census. If it shifts, a representative could be added or subtracted. The representatives elected, will serve a two year term. They also elect the Speaker of the House, who is the head. . The ... • 36. Government Over Regulation Of The United States Camille Nelson Kline Honors English 10 10 April 2017 Government Over Regulation The United States has slowly conformed to the new ways of the Western policy of democratic socialism in order to achieve equality in the eyes of the law, but with this the necessary regulatory compliance of all citizens must be provided. If all American citizens do agree to abide by the rules implemented by the United States, the freedom that they came here for would be nonexistent, and they would no longer have the ability to truly live the infamous American dream . The economy is also beginning to move away from the capitalist ways and move toward an ideology of equality among the wealth and incomes of the people, and the only apparent way to achieve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves (Tanner 1). Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize winner, Chief Economist at Roosevelt Institute, best selling author, and a professor at Columbia University explains the problems with the current economy in the United States in his book Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy. He explains that even though the one percent of the United States population is living a prosperous life, the remaining ninety nine percent are being hurt by this reality (Stiglitz 8). From this it can be concluded that the regulations currently being pressed upon the majority of the population are hurting more than benefitting. Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state (Oxford Dictionary 1). There has been a longing to find a balance between this and socialism. The laissez faire is the commonly known economic idea of a government refraining from interfering in the free market in order to allow the people to control their own means of production and selling of goods. This seems to be ruined by the over regulation of the economy by the government because much of the US economic benefits rely on the free market. Also, capitalism allows for people to voluntarily take part in making their own wealth. Without this, competition among businesses would be gone and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
