Taking a Look at Neck Pain
Research Paper: Neck Pain
What is Neck Pain?
Parts of the Cervical Vertebrae
Cervical Vertebrae is composed of 7 discs ranging from C1 to C7. It is in charge of protecting
the spinal cord while supporting the weight of the head that averages at about 10 pounds. The
vertebrae is also tasked with enabling the head to rotate and move. The intervertebral discs in
between the vertebrae are said to be gel like and allows the parts of vertebrae to move past each
other. They also act as shock absorbers. The Spinal Cord sends signals throughout the body that
allows us humans to move via the spinal nerves.
Fig 1: This is the Cervical Vertebrae it is composed of many parts and is located in the neck region.

Childhood Reflection Paper
By taking this class, I have learned about the stories of our childhood and how they affect us in
many ways. They allow for children and adults to connect with one another while reading a
certain story. This allows both the parent and the child the ability to wind down from a stressful
day just by reading. I learned about how stories make us who we are and help us escape into a
different reality. Stories can elicit emotional responses from us, help us deal with certain
problems in our lives, and give us the chance to empathize with certain characters who are like
us. Bedtime stories allow us to use our own imagination which allows us to travel to various
places without even moving an inch from where we are sitting. I have also learned how bedtime
stories from our childhood help us realize what we value and what our morals are. Therefore,
this class has taught me about the books of our childhood and how it helps strengthen our
imagination just by reading little black marks on a piece of paper. Because of stories, they help
us figure out who we are as a person. I have learned how they emphasize our morals and what we
believe in. They teach us certain values and how to identify whether something is right or wrong. A
Storied Childhood; The Impact of Stories On Children s Social And Emotional Development

Child Abuse And The Rights Of A Child
Surrounding any contemporary social issue are a set of relationships that negotiate the
circumstances. Social work is embedded inside a range of these relationships including the
economic system, service delivery organisations, the state and the poor. Specifically looking at
practice with children suffering from abuse and neglect, this essay will identify how these
relationships shape social workpractice with the poor.
For the purpose of this essay, child abuse will be defined as any acts of harm, ill treatment, neglect
or deprivation of a young person in Aotearoa, New Zealand. These acts are defined only as abuse
if they risk the childs wellbeing and survival. Child abuse is an offence as it violates the
governments responsibility to protect the rights of a child. UNICEF (2003) identifies New
Zealand as holding the third highest number of child maltreatment related deaths amongst rich
nations. The rights of a child have been breached when they are failed to be protected, provided
for and are unable to participate in New Zealand society. While statistics prove this issue is
prominent and relevant, child abuse fails to be approached in a successful manner. The direction to
approaching this issue is to identify every relationship that works to create this problem. Failing to
recognise these relationships in child abuse has significant consequences in New Zealand s future.
Impacts of child abuse not only lead to deaths and physical detriments but also impacts survivors

Characteristics Of A Successful Time Period During Late...
The traits that define a successful time period in late Imperial China are necessary expansion,
unifying the people, and the construction of an effective and incorrupt political structure. The
effects of meeting these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short
term and long term, as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or
try to imitate successful policies. As a team, the Kangxi emperorand his successor, the Yongzheng
emperor, were able to achieve all of the goals for a prosperous period in Chinese history. Although
it was a relatively short period, the Kangxi and Yongzheng emperor s times on the Qing throne were
extremely complementary, and ultimately came together to form the most successful time period in
late Imperial China.
The Kangxi emperor s greatest contributions to the Qing Dynasty were his impressive military
forces used to expand his lands and keep peace within them, and his ability to establish a
foundation for order in those lands. The Kangxi emperor was on the throne for sixty one years, and
brought expansion and a stable government to the Manchu Qing dynasty by integrating Manchu and
Chinese interests and making traditional Chinese institutions function again. The Kangxi emperor s
long reign...is the crucial period during which Manchu rule took form...With vigor and insight he
faced the fundamental difficulty of making alien rule acceptable to the Chinese elite of learning and

Violence as a Theme in The Color Purple
Physical, emotional and verbal abuse were a common part of life in the deep south in the early
1900 s especially if you were black, and even more so if you were a woman. In The Color Purple by
Alice Walker, Celie experienced violent abuse at the hands of different people throughout their
lives. They learned to be strong, even when life was at its worst. Celie is purely a victim she s
repeatedly raped by her father, her children are taken away from her, and she s into marriage to a
man.

When Mr. _____ came to ask if he could take Celie s sister, Nettie, to be his wife, her father offered
that Mr. _____ could take Celie instead.
Mr. _____ eventually decided to take Celie home to be his wife and raise his children. When she
first arrived, his oldest son threw a rock at her and split her head open. She was still expected to
cook, care for the children, and have sex with Mr. ____ while her head was bandaged. Mr. _____
beat Celie throughout their entire marriage. Harpo, his son, asked him why he beat her. Mr. _____
say, Cause she my wife. Plus, she stubborn. All women good for he don t finish. (Walker 22).
The cycle of abuse continues with Mr. _____ s children, as Harpo starts beating his wife,
Sophia, following the advice of his father and Celie. When Harpo starts beating her, Sophie
confronts Celie about the sins she did to her. She said it s tough to live in a man s world, but she
will fight to the bitter death for her rights as a person if she needs to. Sofia said that she had to
fight her whole life growing up in a family of men, and she fought right back when Harpo tried to
beat her. Sofia left Harpo because she didn t want to live in an abusive relationship. Unfortunately,
she lands in jail for sassing the mayor s wife. Celie visits her in in jail. When I see Sofia I don t

The Australian Media Is An Available And Reliable...
The Australian media is generally considered to be an available and reliable information source for
Australian society. The media therefore has a strong influence over the information of social and
individual opinions. Refugees are people who have been forced to leave their home because of war,
natural disasters or persecution. The media represents this category of people using a narrow group
of information, presenting a particular skew of opinion, which is passed onto the individuals who
place trust in these sources. Through the media interpreting the typical Australian, generally not
showing the reality of immigrants it allows society to disregard refugees or asylum seekers as they
do not fit this ideal Australian. This ideology of the Australian has caused a history of social
categorization and discrimination, often based in a racial or religious difference between the
British Australian settlers, and a variety of groups, including: the Indigenous community, Chinese
gold rush settlers, and Mediterranean immigrants. Recently, these social categorizations have been
strongly targeted toward those seeking asylum on Australias shores. The rapid evolution of
technology and the media has caused dramatic changes in the way that society, and the individuals
within it have understood and approached these issues.
The media in its news form is considered to be a highly trusted source of information. This gives
them a huge influence over Australia s views over certain topics.

The Supply Of Supply Chain Management Essay
The supply chain management basically involves processes and activities which are involved in the
planning, organising, controlling and implementing the cost effective flow of goods from the point
of origin to the point of consumption. The whole process will have different players like the
supplier, manufacturer, distributor, retailers and the customers themselves as the end point of
consumption. The supply chain has changed drastically over the years. This days they are very
global in nature. Involving various complex interactions and flow of goods, data and funds between
companies which are situated in different countries and continents. Even though the companies are
spread across the world the manufacturing plants generally follow a similar structure which
normally comprises of the suppliers, manufacturing plants, distributors, retailers, inbound and
outbound logistics providers. There were a lot of challenges which arose because of the
competition which made the companies to rethink their strategies in order to get the product to the
right place at the right time at the lowest cost possible. The companies should always look at
improving the whole supply chain and every player in the chain should coordinate with one
another if they want to increase the efficiency. The organisation should realise the strategic
importance of supply chain as it is a key to building a sustainable competitive edge. (Li, Ragu
Nathan, Ragu Nathan, Rao, 2006). There is always a constant flow

Internal And External Conflicts In The Time Of The Doves
MercГЁ Rodoreda s immersive novel, The Time of the Doves, presents numerous realistic
conflicts and their effects on an ordinary citizen. Natalia, the protagonist, is challenged with
several internal and external conflicts that range from an inability to express herself to a war
fueled famine. Rodoreda uses personal experience, as well as knowledge of the typical female role
during the Spanish Civil Warto add a personal outlook on the conflicts she presents. Natalia s
internal conflicts are compelling, and can be applied to a large portion of women, in the past and
today. As for the external conflict, Natalia s sufferings with the effects of warcan be applied on a
cultural level to most of Spain, during the Civil war, and universally to any war struck country.
Throughout the novel Natalia is challenged with several internal conflicts, many of which
originate from external conflict with her husband, Quimet. Natalia is a meek, mild, young
woman in the beginning of the novel, It was hard for me to say no if someone asked me to do
something (15). Quimet juxtaposes Natalia s personality in almost every way, he is obsessive,
possessive, and controlling, ...and said if I wanted to be his wife I had to start liking everything
he liked (22). Quimet persuades her to marry him and leave her fiancГ©, Pere. He often
challenges Natalia s confidence and persuades her to do and agree to things she is uncomfortable
with, creating internal conflicts for Natalia s inability to protest or decline. For instance, Natalia
does not want Quimet to build the dovecote and raise the doves, but does not possess the adequate
confidence to voice her opinion. Natalia is generally unable to convey her feelings of rage and
discontent to the other characters, she often remarks on her difficulty to verbally express herself to
the audience.
Many factors of Natalia s life also create external conflict, most prominently the famine caused by
the war, she struggles to keep her children fed and is plagued with guilt, I had two mouths to feed
and nothing to put in them. I can t describe how sad it was (134). Natalia is eventually forced to
make drastic decisions to try to spare her children, including sending her son, Antoni, to a children s

Examples Of True Love In Romeo And Juliet
Some may say love is a curse while some may say love is a blessing, because of the actions it
makes one take. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet illustrates the actions and feats of what
true love is capable of achieving. Romeo and Juliet s life revolves around their family having a
feud with one another, and that the father of the house chooses whom the child marries. However,
the children of the two houses loveeach other. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, it shows the two
main character s experiences illustrates that true love is powerful and capable of conquering reason,
family, and hate.
Romeo and Juliet s experience shows that true love is powerful since it can conquer reason.

Romeo admits, I ll go along no such sight to be shown but to rejoice splendour of my own
(I.V.102 103) Romeo s quote emphasizes that the women at the party are influencing Romeo and
his comrades to attend. The women causes them to forget that they could be caught. For example,
even if one wears a mask to a party to hide his identity, one can still recognize the individual by
their voice and their by their actions. This evokes to the reader that Romeo and his comrades love
for women distracts them from reasoning, and make them decide to attend their enemy s ball.
Additionally, Romeo s decision to kill himself without any genuine reasoning after hearing about
Juliet s death, illustrates the point that love is more powerful than reasoning. Romeo cries, Well
Juliet (Romeo) will lie with thee tonight (V.I.34). This quote proclaimed by Romeo shows he has
given up on life right after hearing the horrible news. This diverts to the reader that Romeo, who

Dissatisfaction with Society Revealed in Yeats’ Stolen Child
Dissatisfaction with Society Revealed in Yeats Stolen Child
The Stolen Child, a poem by W.B. Yeats, relates the story of a child who is lured away by fairies
to a fantasy world illustrated through rich descriptions of nature and the freedom it offers. The plot
of the poem becomes a metaphor for the return to innocence that the author feels is necessary in a
society that is attempting to lead children away from the mysticism and innocence that characterize
childhood, toward a more mundane reality as an adult. With his vivid descriptions and use of
extended metaphor, Yeatsis able to create a world unaffected by time, in stark contrast to the world
in which we live, to illustrate his dissatisfaction with reality.

The island could also be symbolic of the womb, a watery environment that protected the developing
child from the world. This imagery would support Yeats message that we must rekindle the
innocence and abandon of our youth, which has been controlled and limited by the confines of
modern society. The use of rushing water as a symbol of freedom continues in the third stanza
where Yeats describes how the wandering water gushes... in pools among the rushes (28).
In the final stanza, Yeats draws his most striking contrast of all to illustrate his message. He does
this by following the descriptions of nature in its wildest form, of the previous stanzas, with
those of the domestic atmosphere from which the child is being taken, in this stanza. Initially,
Yeats established the setting of the poem in the first stanza by describing a place Where
flapping herons wake / The drowsy water rats (5). This is contrasted in this stanza with images of
calves on the warm hillside / Or the kettle on the hob / Or... the brown mice (45). Calves, kettles,
and mice are all images that are associated with a domestic farm or a country home. Thus, this
imagery is being used to portray how modern society has enslaved nature, controlling its freedom.
Water rats and herons, on the other hand, are both wild and free animals that are found near water,

To What Extent Does Charlemagne Deserve The Title The Great
Who is Charlemagne The Great ? Charlemagne was born in 712 AD to Pepin the Short King of
the Franks. Growing up Charles was Christian and followed Christian beliefs. Charles split his rule
of the franks with his brother after his father s death. After his brother had died he had full control
of the Franks. He was popular among his people, not because of his leadership, but his humility.
He would talk to everyone whether a peasant or held a high power. He ruled as the Frank king for
26 years before becoming Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Pope at this time, Pope Leo,
crowned CharlemagneEmperor of the Holy Roman Empire. In his lifetime, he ruled for 46 years.
Before his death, in his life, he was given a title, The Great . There s speculation to if Charlemagne
deserves this title. Charlemagne does indeed deserve the title The Great . A great leader must be

Juror 4
As is known to all, people always have different views on one issue because of the different
understanding of objective things and personal experience. And that maybe why there is a great
number of conflicts in this world. People always have a stereotype view of the people who has a
different view with them, and things are even worse when someone is the only one person that
has a different view. A good argument does not mean being the only one who is right, but by
providing a valid explanation. Providing a valid argument is necessary and providing a logical and
reasonable proof to support argument is more persuasive. However, the personalities also play an
important role in the process of the argument because they affect the ways of thinking... Show more

Juror 4 is an educated and logical man because all of his arguments are based on the facts and
evidence. He also notices some details that other jurors ignored at the beginning. He illustrates
that the murder weapon, which is an unusual carved handle and blade knife is a strong evidence
that proves the boy is the suspect because the knife is so unique and the shop owner also
confirms that the knife the boy has is the only one in stock. And it is not possible that the knife
just fell out from the boy s pocket and someone picked it up and stabbing the victim or someone
else use the exactly same knife to kill boy s father because it is a not possible coincidence. Other
jurors don t accept an incredible coincidence like this as well. After listening to Juror 4 s
argument, however, Davis presents his own argument, which is the coincidence is possible. But
Juror 3 stands out and rejects Davis s argument that he doesn t think it is possible. At this point,
Davis shows other jurors a very similar knife just like the boy s. Davis points out his evidence to
confirm his argument is correct, which is it is possible that someone stabbed a very similar knife
and killed the father, because Davis bought this knife in a shop that is two blocks from the boy s
house. That shows if Davis does, anyone else could buy an exactly same knife. After Davis explains
his argument, even though majority of the jurors still are not convinced by his argument, Juror 2
begins to question the murder weapon because he thinks this is an interesting point to consider
about and Juror 11 says the knife was important to the district attorney, which shows that Davis s
argument attracted some

The Story Of Motown
Beginning with nothing but a mere $800 loan from his father, Berry Gordy managed to build an
empire based on a completely new type of music that would eventually become a major device in
breaking down racial prejudice during the civil rights movement. Founded in 1959 and originating
in the heart of Detroit, Motown was a record label that flawlessly combined the moving melodies
of gospel, the upbeat rhythms of jazz, and the raw emotion of street corner symphony. The
company hired mostly black artists, and was a major platform on which many big name celebrities,
such as The Jackson 5, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Marvelettes and Stevie Wonder started their

The movement, using the slogan Black Power, followed the teachings of Malcolm X, an African
American leader who died the same year and who promoted that African Americans separate from
white society in favor of forming their own community. The Black Panther Party, a militant
organization that viewed themselves as soldiers warring against the white hierarchy, arose from
such ideals. Despite the challenge that Black Power proposed to the nonviolent movement, civil
rights activists continued persevered in finding the end of black discrimination legally. They found
success in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which both contributed
to legally naming minorities as equal citizens, as well as protecting the same from discrimination.
Although the strength of the civil rights movement dissipated after the 1960s, activists continue to

As the civil rights movement progressed, members of the movement who belonged to other

more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against
his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing
than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too
irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is
ubiquitous in media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in
assuaging her situation because of her oscillation between choosing to carry out all opportunities to
take revenge or to stick to ethics, leading into the idea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Veronica was neither a saint nor a fiend, J.D. was her foil, displaying the wickedness he
attained from his poor upbringing. His complete disgust with the way society treated itself led
him to plan to blow up his high school. Noticing that Veronica was trying to turn her life around,
he tried one last time for her to sympathize with him: You want to wipe the slate clean as much as
I do. Okay, so maybe I am killing everyone in the school because no one loves me (Heathers).
While some may consider J.D. to be symbolic of malevolence, the problem with being on the
extreme side of the figurative evilness scale is that evil... only emerges when we are broken off
into disconnected fragments (Taylor). This shows that even the outliers remain neutral, because the
pain people experience or lack thereof skews their viewpoints on what they want and what extremes
they will go to to attain

The Movie The Brothers Grimm
Tangled does a really good job making sure they don t make Repunzel look weak and giving her a
lot of power, but they totally forget about the male of the story Flynn Ryder. The Brothers Grimm
on the other hand manage to have no masculine stereotypes for the prince but they make Repunzel
look like a helpless lamb.
In the original Brothers Grimm fairytale Repunzel just agrees to marry a total stranger and has no
second thoughts about such a plan. In Tangled she ties him up and hits him over the head with a
frying pan. When he tries to smoochz her she hits him again. These opposite reactions have to
do with the time period. If disney had come out with something with as bad of a message as the
original Brothers Grimm everyone would have been really upset at the poor influence it had on
young woman. It would have betrayed the out of date gender role that women are just waiting
around to be acknowledged by the male. Tangled also couldn t have gotten away with making
Repunzel as, let s say naive, as in the original. I mean seriously this girl is not smart. Since this is
a bit of a bold claim here are some damning examples, when you come, bring each time a silken
rope and i will make a ladder, and when it is quite ready I will get down by it and out of the
tower you know what else works Repunzel? one long rope, cutting off your hair and tying it to the
windowsill, even a clothes rope. Probably the biggest and most obvious statement leading to these

Bilbo Heroism
Heroism Found in The Hobbit Since the beginning of literature, there has always been a hero.
The hero saves the day, and is loved by everyone. Heroes typically are the cream of the crop, they re
good looking, and you can tell from a mile away that they re going to save the day. However, there
are cases where the herois just an average man, living an average life. Tolkien makes it quite clear
that heroes come in many various shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. At the beginning of the book,
Tolkien introduces what a Hobbit is, and their lifestyle. They aren t really the most interesting
creatures, and they seem less than likely to become the hero of the story. Straight from the book,
Tolkien describes Hobbits like this: They are a little people,about... Show more content on

A hero will always be the first to help, and he won t be shy about it. A hero will also be
exceptionally strong both physically and mentally. There is hardly a problem when you have a
hero around. So, when Tolkien introduces Bilbo as the main character, who will clearly become
important, it seems as if it is a joke. However, as the characters and the plot develops, Bilbo
proves to be extremely helpful to the dwarves. Bilbo is a witty thinker, and he can think clearly
in a pinch. He demonstrates this by exchanging riddles with Gollum to save his life. What have I
got in my pocket? he said aloud. He was talking to himself, but Gollum thought it was a riddle.
(85) Bilbo s mental capacity is not the only thing useful that he has. Later on in the story, he
shows that his physical endurance is almost as exceptional as his mental. When Bilbo breaks the
company out of prison, he is faced with the challenge of getting them escaped. So, he floats them
in barrels. This is uncomfortable and miserable for everyone, especially Bilbo. It was just that
moment that Bilbo suddenly discovered the weak point in his plan... Of course he was not in a
barrel himself, nor was there anyone to pack him in. (177) As a result, Bilbo has to float the river
on top of a barrel, and that is uncomfortable and terrible for him. Bilbo shows so much courage, he
leaps in the adventure with both feet, and helps

Master Harold And The Boys Quotes
A famous quote by George Orwell states If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell
people what they do not want to hear . Master Harold and the Boys, a play that was originally set
in apartheid South Africa, tells us the story of a young white boy (Hally) who felt he was
superior over two black men (Sam and Willie) simply because he felt they were servants to his
mother, thus they were of no significant in the society at that time. Although the social challenges
of writing literatures like Master Harold and the Boys was risky and challenging, Fugard uses
simple day to day events and interactions between Hally and Sam to expose the injustices
committed by the apartheidGovernment at that time.
Hally as a teenager was very considerate of the socio political struggles that were going on in South
Africa at that time wherein blacks were oppressed by the whites. As a result of this, he used this
motive to mock Sam and Willie on several scenes in the play. He s a white man and that s good
enough for you. (pg. 53) In this quote, Hally was insisting that Sam must call his father Boss since
he was white and the one paying him (Sam) as he claimed. This ... Show more content on

The Effects Of Climate Change On Earth
In another matter, this is not the first time that climate change has affected the planet in the past
there were many problems to the earth millions of years ago. There were five major ice ages
from the longest and first scientists believe occurred was two point four to two point one billion
years ago during the early Proterozoic Eon there was an ice ageformed and it was the Huronian.
The second ice age was the cryogenian and it has been known that it produced a snowball earthin

eight hundred and fifty to six hundred and thirty million years ago. The third ice age that occurred

Scientists believe the possible causes of the medieval warm period were increase in solar activity,
decrease volcanic activity, and change to ocean circulation. After the medieval ended what
followed was the little ice age; the little ice age is a period between the thirteen hundreds to the
eighteen seventies. During this time Europe and North America were subjected to a much colder
winters than during the 20th century. Scientists believe the cause of this period was cyclical lows
in solar radiation, heightened volcanic activity, changes in the ocean circulation, variations in earth
s orbit, and axial tilt, inherent variability in global climate and decrease in the human population
these just the few reasons why the little ice age was formed.
Climate change has caused many problems to humans and ironically the cause of it are humans
them selves. One of the major problems that climate changed has caused is food crisis; hotter
temperatures will severely diminish the world s ability to grow crops and feed humanity and
other animals. The effects of major heat waves recorded in the past were very excruciating like
the one in Western Europe during the summer of 2003 which hunted the crop yield deeply. Also
in 2003 Italy was affected by a big heat wave where a maze yield feel by 36%. These are major
signs that humans won t have any thing to feed themselves in several years if this damaging global
warming continues.

i.I had the opportunity to grow up because of Hermes. He saved me from a certain death by the

Without him, the Trojan race would only have survived through Aeneas. Now, I have a thriving

that made me the leader I am today. I was the boy king of Hectia, and I had anything that I could

However, something incredible happened with that mortal: he understood. He understood and

Pros And Cons Of Confederate Statues
Gersh Kentzman in the New York Daily News gave the reasonable and understandable reason of
why the federate statues should be removed. He asked why there are no statues of Adolf Hitler in
Berlin. Usually, the statues are to honor people who did something good to their country; someone
who put his life in danger to save his country. Statues also are to honor people s service to the
country. The Confederate statues are for people who divided the country and separated citizens
according to their skin colors or their social classes. These confederate statues and monuments
should be removed because those people did not do anything to build the country. The Confederate
statues can easily remind the victims of civil war or slavery what they went through and how they
were treated. Thus causes conflicts between them and those who made them went through what
they went through. Mayor Landrew, who removed the statueof General Robert E. Leein South
Carolina, said these statues... are not just innocent remembrances of a benign history. These
monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanite confederacy ignoring the death, ignoring the
enslavement... The Confederate monuments and statues are just like a bad memory; nobody wants
to keep remembering it; so why the U.S. should keep those bad men statues? The federate statues
should be removed in the whole country because those men do not deserve any honor. The federate

Working While Traveling Essay
Meta description: Freelancers are able to travel abroad for long periods of time while working
their current jobs. But there are things you will need to know about working while traveling. Here
are some of the most vital international travel tips for any freelancer embarking on a trip.
One of the joys about freelancing is the freedom that you have to travel. Whether it s just for a few
weeks or a trip lasting six months, there are several travel tips that you need to keep in mind.
Manage Your Finances
Money is something you don t really want to worry about, but as a freelancer you can t help it,
especially while traveling. Do yourself a favor and manage it before you leave to keep your
headaches to a minimum.
Joyce Grace from the Manage WP Blog advises that you turn off all monthly services such as
Netflix or Hulu that you won t be using while on the road. Call your mobile provider and ask them
to give you an international plan and make sure you tell them where you re headed, because they
can freeze your account if they think your phone has been stolen.
Also be sure to tell your bank and Paypal that you are traveling abroad, and check in if your plans
change. Having your bank accounts frozen while traveling is a horrifying experience that no one
wants to go through, so continually keep them up to date as you travel.
Visa Requirements
Always plan your trip ahead of time because you need to be aware of visa requirements for all of

Because we live in a modern age of much technological advancements, many students in
universities are looking to see if it is still worth buying physical textbooks or to utilize digital
formats like e textbooks as a means of efficiency or even as a way to cut costs of paying for
expensive textbooks. To understand which format is more effective, we need to study the different
formats and see what are the strengths and weaknesses found in the two different formats. This
paper will examine research done by multiple researchers and use their research to help find the
format that best helps students to study and retain material learned from their textbook
Defining E textbooks and Traditional Textbooks
E textbooks are often defined as texts that are able to be accessed on electronic devices. Most
research has defined them as texts that are digital and accessed via electronic screens
(Rockinson Szapkiw, Courdoff, Carter, Bennett, 2012), in which there two formats that exist.
The first format is the page fidelity e textbook and second is the reflowable digital e textbook.
The page fidelity e textbook is a simple scanned picture of the print version of a book, which can
usually come in the form of a PDF (Rockinson Szapkiw, Courdoff, Carter, Bennett, 2012). The page

As well as the entire business world, marketing has its own ethics problems.
Numerous marketing specialists or their representatives have consciously declared and adopted
different engagements, declarations or codes of rules regarding the necessity that marketing people

members of society. These declarations or rules concern marketing practices in their ensemble or
are guided towards certain specific fields. Among these fields, a special place is occupied by

Although not all companies can assume social responsibilities, there are numerous fields in which
organisations are approaching the way in which they understand and get involved in this kind of

Gamble company with the program Live, Learn and Develop yourself , having as goal helping

organisations to get involved in different activities of social responsibility belongs firstly to the
managers of these organisations, respectively to those that choose the way and modality of action,
starting with their own conscious, because, in fact, ...the only guiding direction for a straight,

Theme Of Gnomeo And Juliet And The West Side Story
In the novel West Side Story, by Arthur Laurents, we see a forbidden love. This forbidden love
consists of Tony (an ex jet) and Maria (the sister to the leader of the sharks). This love story is
doomed from the beginning as Tony and Maria come for two completely ethnic backgrounds
that can not stand each other. This story of romance would ultimately end as tragically as we
would all suspect. Riff (Tony s best friend) is killed by a stab wound to the chest, Bernardo
(Maria s brother) is killed by Tony and Tony ultimately meets his fate when a bullet strikes him in
the back. There has been many modern stories similar to the one above but the movie Gnomeo and

Since the West Side story is meant for a more mature audience, Laurents sets his novel in
manhattan, making the story as life like as possible. The backyard setting of Gnomeo and Juliet
allows for the young target audience to easily relate to the movie, while keeping ideas simple for
easy understanding.
Lastly, the plot of the two stories are greatly different. This again is also in order for the target
audiences to better understand. The plot of the West Side Story is much more complex than that
of the Gnomeo and Juliet, In the plot of the West Side Story we see death, Violence and loveloss.
These are all components that make a a novel appealing to a more mature audience. These are
ideas that are advanced beyond what most children can comprehend but this is also the same thing
that makes the novel so effective to carrying a message to a older audience.
The movie Gnomeo and Juliet uses a plot line that is far more simple to follow. The movie s plot
line included ideals such as, love and forgiveness. These are two ideas that a young audience are
able to comprehend. Even though these stories have different plot lines and different complexities.

Challenges Facing The United States
There will be significant challenges facing the United States in the next 10 years regarding strategic
threats and global security. The three overlapping types of conflicts which will dictate future wars,
challenge government agencies, and force all branches of the Armed Forces to restructure their
formations are Wars of Silicon, Iron, and Shadow. The four U.S. Services will need to rebalance, be
adaptive, implement strategic agility, and reprioritize their programs to meet specific security
issues posed by these conflicts. Diverse adversaries will employ traditional, unconventional, and
hybrid strategies to threaten U.S. National Security. Joint Forces by 2025 will need to be leaner,
technologically superior, and expeditionary to support Combatant Commanders so; they can win in
full spectrum operations and defend U.S. national interests at home and overseas. These new and

implementing stringent control measure to mitigate those risks. The Wars of Iron, Silicon, and

Source Selection Evaluation Paper
The Source Selection Evaluation Plan acts as a guide for the agency s contracting team like that of
the Technical Evaluation Plan. The choice of which configuration to utilize relies upon the
intricacy and cost of the proposed venture and contract. A straightforward contract would utilize a
technical evaluation plan while a more perplexing and costly venture may require a lawfully
controlled source selection evaluation plan.
The reason for the source selection evaluation plan is to depict the procedure for assessing
recommendations from bidders. It records and characterizes each colleague s parts and obligations

are informed of the results after the contract has been awarded. There are circumstances in which
the performance, reliability, and quality of the end product are the most important aspect of the

government uses for the specific project in order of importance. These categories are: Technical
approach and management plan, quality assurance, past performance, key personnel and corporate
experience (Compton, 2010, p. 127). For the security fence project, it is suggested that the
categories be ranked accordingly: with letter A being the most important category and letter E being
the least important.

Archetypes In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
In almost any story, whether novel or poem, lies a hero. Depending on the path, a variety of
archetypes usually accompany the hero. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines archetype as the
original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies. Joseph
Campbell s A HeroWith A Thousand Faces introduces the common archetypes often found in
various pieces of literature, explaining The parallels will be immediately apparent; and these will

throughout the millenniums of his residence on the planet, in his preface to the 1949 edition. To

Examples such as the Green Knight, a product of Morgan le Faye and Morgan s castle and
everything that lies within it support this idea. Although, not only can green represent the envy that
makes the story, it can also represent a connection to nature, perhaps even other worldly. The fact
that the Green Knight made up of green demonstrates a very important relation between him and
the world, revealed through his weapons of choice such as his holly branch and axe. Meanwhile, red
and gold, strongly associated with Gawain, contrast the Green Knight s green and gold. The color
red represents love and life (blood) while gold represents wealth and prosperity. The colors serve as
a wonderful visual to Gawain s character very noble.
The role of the temptress, a character archetype identified by Joseph Campbell, tests the moral
values of the hero in the hero s journey. In mythology, sirens or nymphs often depicted the
temptress, but in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the temptress took the form of a human
seductress. In the poem, as Sir Bertilak sets off to hunt every morning, the lovely Lady Bertilak,
otherwise known as Sir Bertilak s wife, pays Sir Gawain a visit. A seductress should bear some
beauty to impose the threat of seduction, because this gives the temptress the ability to hold power
over the hero s head with something he or she wants, or something material. What better

innocent s headquarters Fruit Towers discussing the international expansion they could achieve
thanks to the injection of cash from and global experience of the Coca Cola Company . With the

European countries and they have set their sights on launching in a BRIC market. They have

Diversification has been important in the company s growth story. Innocent is the number one
smoothies brand in the UK and in many of the European territories where the product has sold,
however much of the company s growth has been maintained by new lines as the smoothie market
has become commoditised. In order to maintain volumes in the smoothie market innocent have
concentrated on innovation in flavours and launched big take home tetra packs, smoothies for
children and innocent thickies with probiotic yoghurt.
Today, Europe s favourite smoothie company is selling their natural healthy product in 15
countries and employs over 250 people across Europe. In just over a decade, innocent has
established itself as an iconic British company with a market leading position in its home territory
and across much of Europe.
The innocent brand:
From the outset, innocent has delighted its customers with its straightforward almost irreverent
approach to business using a simple, down to earth communications techniques that mirror the no
nonsense honesty of the innocent brand and its products. Instinct played a big part in the
development of the Innocent logo and packaging. The founders wanted to show that the product
was fun and good for you. They did not have a sophisticated marketing plan but were clear that it
had to taste and look good and that it needed to stand out on cafГ© shelves. Innocent s primary
target market was young urban

Buddhist and Hindu Temples Essay
Hindu and Buddhist cultures are both rich in religion and expressing their faith through art. The
Buddhist culture was formed by Buddha who went out to discover the causes of pain and
suffering. Once Buddha realized what the cause was, he provided a set of four guiding principles
know as the Four Noble Truths that are exercised in Buddhism(Kleiner, p. 13). The Four Noble
truths are Life is suffering, the cause of suffering is desire, one can overcome and extinguish desire,
the way to conquer desire and end suffering is to follow Buddha s Eightfold Path... (p. 13). These
truths are expressed in the following of Buddhism and commonly carried out through art. Buddhism

The stone fence surrounds the whole stopa to restrict the outside world from the sacred burial
mound. The dome shape of the stopa represents the mountain of the world. The toranas are large
stone pillars that are placed in the cardinal points of the stone fence, north, east, south, and west.
Directly on top of the stupa sits the harmika. This harmika is a rectangle shape stone fence that
represents an area of the gods. In the center of this harmika extends the yasti, a pole like structure
protruding towards the universe representing the axis of the universe. There are three chatras that
are pierced through the yasti. The chatras are stone discs that represent the union of the earth and
the heavenly paradise (Kleiner, p. 15). The stupas are walked around in a clockwise manner by
Buddhists because that is the same movement of the earth around the sun. This is known as
circumambulation. The theory of circumambulation is that it brings the devotee into harmony with
the cosmos (p. 15). This is the standard blueprint to which all stupas are constructed, thus allowing
the Buddhists to circumambulate the structure. The Great Stupa of Sanchi is located in Sanchi,
which lies in central India. The Great Stupa follows the same basic structure blueprinted for all
stupas. What makes this one so unique is that it stands fifty feet high and has two different levels
that are designed to be circumambulated. There are four gates that the Buddhists enter

was baptized on December 17, 1770. He had two younger brother, Caspar and Joann. His mother
was Maria Magdalena van Beethoven and his father was Johann van Beethoven. He was an
innovator, widening the scope of sonata, symphony, concerto and quartet. He combined vocals and

Saramago Death Quotes
That s how life is, what it gives with one hand one day, it takes away with the other . This quote
can relate to a lot of real life scenarios, even drunk driving can relate to this quote. I believe
Saramago is trying to let every reader have a deep understanding of life and death. Going back to
the quote, I mentioned how it can relate to drunk driving, because drunk driving causes deathto
another innocent individual without giving them a chance of deciding when their life should end.
Their life was ended through another person s hand, similar to the story illustrated in the second
part of Death with Interruptions, how Saramago created a character name death , and she goes

Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt were both Presidents, however, they both had
completely opposing views. President Hoover believed in rugged individualism , where every
person looked solely for their personal gain, whereas President Roosevelt believed that the
government should directly help its people when they fall into economic issues. During the time
leading up to the Great Depression, Hoover was in denial, claiming that the government was strong
. Hoover did not want to injure the initiative and enterprise of the American people , so when he
took action, it was too late. He created a few relief groups, like the President s Organization for

Utilitarianism, Deontology, And Virtue Ethics
Initially, my understanding of ethics was merely to determine what is right and wrong in certain
situations. Although, after learning about Utilitarianism, Deontology, and Virtue Ethics, I have
realized that certain characteristics of each play a role in determining what ethics truly are.
Utilitarianism characterizes the definition of ethics, by making all choices have the greatest positive
impact, while minimizing the risk. Deontology on the other hand would rather we not get involved
because there is never a justifiable means to an end. Finally, there is virtue ethics, which would
have us aspires to have certain characteristics that we hold above all others. Let s further expand
on what Utilitarianism means and how it affects ethics. Utilitarianism focuses on actions that
will appeal to the greater good, while causing the least amount of harm. When in respect too
many superheroes, they seem to have a mixed set of ethics. In White and Arp s Batman and
Philosophy, they discuss why Batman has decided not to kill the Joker, even though time after
time the Joker has proven himself to be a menace (2008, p.5 6). What it boils down to, is that
Bruce doesn t want to stoop to the level of the criminals he has sworn to protect the city from,
which could be the answer of what a Deontologist would say on this matter. On the other hand, a
utilitarian would want to kill the Joker, as it would save countless lives that would be in danger
otherwise. This showcases how Batman could save

Milestones in Federal Gun Control Legislation
A growing number of publicized tragedies caused by gun violence have caused a great stir in the
American community. Recently, President Barack Obama has made proposals to tighten the
regulation of and the restrictions on the possession of weapons in America to lessen these
tragedies. Should the legislative branch decide in favor of his proposals, all American citizens
who do or wish to own the type of weapons in question or who use current loopholes in existing
policy would be directly affected. His proposals, which are to require background checks for all
gun sales, strengthen the background check system for gun sales, pass a new, stronger ban on

It is for this bias that they may not be seen as a reputable source of fact on the issue. Why would
they show the horrors of gun violence when their organization revolves around guns, many liberals
ask. While organizations may be an unreliable source of reason due to the impact that resulting laws
may have on them, they still propose valid points.
Obama s proposals function on one of the oldest, fundamental goals of government: to provide
order and security to those governed. By requiring universal background checks, those deemed unfit
to possess a firearm would not legally have a way to buy one and therefore the severity of the
situation, should one of these individuals act on any rash thoughts, would be greatly reduced.
The same would be true if individuals who were able to possess firearms were only able to have
ones of a less ridiculous nature and with less ammunition to carry out any homicidal intentions.
The right to ban these dangerous and unusual weapons has already been ruled by the Supreme
Court in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller to be in accordance with the Constitution. In
1994, two laws were passed which did these two things. However, due to loopholes, they were less
effective than intended. Even still, statistical information shows that since the year they were
passed, there has been a steady

Gentrification Of Gentrification And Labor Markets
Introduction The study of urban spaces, especially with respect to gentrification, has increased
dramatically in significance and relevance in the past several decades. With the resurgence of city
living s popularity, urban revitalization has occurred in neighborhoods across the United States and
brought with it significant economic and social change. Gentrification is known as a process of
moving in wealthier residents and thereby increasing property values. From this, many conclude
that it constitutes neighborhood revitalization insofar as it improves the economic value of the
area. Therefore, a major consequence of this revitalization is that it often displaces low income
residents and small businesses (Zukin, 2010). Though much research and discourse exist to
examine the plights of these residents and firms, a frequently overlooked subject is gentrification s
ability to displace labor from an economic standpoint. This review will primarily demonstrate that
the limited research on gentrification and labor markets has concluded that a relationship between
the two does seem to exist. In particular, the literature has shown that gentrification may negatively
impact the manufacturing sector of the labor market, which has negative implications for urban
economies. The review will also summarize the consensus reached by the scholars in the field, and
it will identify the trends observed in their research. Finally, it will assess the gaps in the literature,
and seek to find

Comparison Of Mexico And Brazil Essay
Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254).
Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is
also considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large
populations in comparison to the other regionsof their realms. Mexico s current population of 102
million people has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is
currently near 167 million people (254). The populationsof both regions are becoming increasingly
more urban in character. At least seventy four percent of Mexico s population resides in cities or
towns (220). Similarly in Brazil, eighty percent of the population... Show more content on

Brazil lacked the large work force provided by the greater Amerindian population of Mexico. The
Amerindians of Mexico were already familiar with working for native overlords, making the
transition to working under a Spanish overlord a relatively smooth process (Suchlicki 31). To
compensate for the lack of an indigenous work force, the Portuguese began to bring African slaves
into Brazil as early as 1433. Out of the total population of the Brazilian colony in 1585 numbering
some 57,000 people, 14,000 were African slaves (Burns 49). Although the Spanish who colonized
Mexico were by no means innocent of enslaving Africans, the large numbers of Amerindians
provided the bulk of the work force on Mexican plantations (Suchlicki 31).
These historical differences in the regions of Brazil and Mexico are still evident in their
populations of today. The Amerindian influence is strong in Mexico. While only ten percent of the
population is full Amerindian (de Blij and Muller 220), the cultural influence remains greater than
in Brazil. Less than one percent of the population is full Amerindian in Brazil (Microsoft Encarta).
The population of Mexico is largely mestizo, people with mixed European and Amerindian
ancestries (de Blij and Muller 220). The population of Brazil is much more diverse; it is more
heavily influenced by European immigrations. The large numbers of slaves brought into Brazil
from Africa have maintained their

Bruce Dawe Poetry
Bruce Dawe Poetry
Many of Bruce Dawe s poems have a heavy message and a bleak meaning relating to society s
weaknesses and downfalls.
Enter without so much as knocking is a poem that is critical of consumerism in the modern world.
The poem itself is a story of one man s life, from birth till death and is a satirical look at modern
society and its materialism. The poem begins with the Latin line Memento, homo, qui, pulvis es,
et in pulverem reverteris. This means in English Remember you are dust and dust you will return
. This is the central idea of the poem; no matter how many materialistic items we acquire and
consume, in the end, we all end up at the same place. The poem then follows by speaking of a
baby waking into life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

SILENCE As the child blinked into life, the man blinks into death, returning to dust at last.
Although a completely different subject, Homecoming is in ways similar to enter without so much
as knocking . Both facing realistic views on life and the issues that are facing society, Bruce Dawes
poems convey what he, and others, has wanted to say.
Homecoming is an elegy and anti war poem written about the Vietnam War. The poem starts off
in what seems to be a monotone, with many simple verbs such as picking... bringing.... rolling ...
tagging... used to depict how day after day it is all the same. The bodies of the soldiers all
tediously follow the same routine and being treated in a somewhat seemingly cold and offhanded
way. Unlike enter without so much as knocking , these simple words are repetitive and slow paced;
they aim to enhance the effect of imprinting a strong image within the reader s imagination, forcing
the reader into feeling this great injustice for these soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for their
country, within the war.
In this free verse war poem, the idea of journey extends itself to cover both the physical and
emotional aspects of the subject matter of the poem. Repetition and word

Beethoven s Violin Concerto
Ludwig van Beethoven is considered one of the greatest and most influential composers in the
history of music. His Violin Concerto in D Major has been played by nearly every soloist in the
past 150 years and, today, it is one of the major works in violin repertoire. Since its premiere by
Franz Clement in the winter of 1806, many aspects of the violin, bow, and performance have
undergone changes. This paper discusses the modern day knowledge of Beethoven s Violin
Concerto, and how it is influencing the way violinists interpret and perform the concerto. It also
points out some of the different performance styles starting from Clement s time to the present day.

Joachim also composed two cadenzas for the concerto, but most players today choose the
Viennese violinist Fritz Kreisler s cadenzas from the 1920 s.8 When Beethoven was writing the
Violin Concerto, orchestral instruments were very similar to those used in Haydn s and Mozart s
time.9 During the 19th century, violin luthiers were trying to recreate Italian Stradivari and
Guarneri models, including the most famous luthier in Germany during Beethoven s time. Rode,
Kruetzer, Baillot, all alive during Beethoven s time period, were known to play on Stradivarius
violins, with pernambuco wood bows that were of the Tourte style.10 François Tourte was the
most innovative bow maker of all times, and he invented the modern bow, which produced a
bigger sound, and allowed for a new galaxy of bow techniques. All subsequent bows have been
variations of the Tourte style. Violins during Beethoven s time used gut strings, made from sheep or
goat intestines. It produced a softer, darker sound than that of modern strings made of metal and
synthetic materials, introduced around the third quarter of the 19th century. Other changes to the
violin after Beethoven s time include the use of the chin and shoulder rests, which were created by
the violinist Louis Spohr (1784 1859). The chin rest lifts the the chin above the violin, so that it
does not have to touch the violin top, allowing it resonate better with less damping.11 Many of the

It is in charge of protecting the spinal cord while supporting the weight of the head that averages at about 10 pounds. The vertebrae is also tasked with enabling the head to rotate and move. The intervertebral discs in between the vertebrae are said to be gel like and allows the parts of vertebrae to move past each other. They also act as shock absorbers. • 3. Childhood Reflection Paper By taking this class, I have learned about the stories of our childhood and how they affect us in many ways. They allow for children and adults to connect with one another while reading a certain story. This allows both the parent and the child the ability to wind down from a stressful day just by reading. I learned about how stories make us who we are and help us escape into a different reality. Stories can elicit emotional responses from us, help us deal with certain problems in our lives, and give us the chance to empathize with certain characters who are like us. Bedtime stories allow us to use our own imagination which allows us to travel to various places without even moving an inch from where we are sitting. I have also learned how bedtime stories from our childhood help us realize what we value and what our morals are. Therefore, this class has taught me about the books of our childhood and how it helps strengthen our imagination just by reading little black marks on a piece of paper. Because of stories, they help us figure out who we are as a person. I have learned how they emphasize our morals and what we believe in. They teach us certain values and how to identify whether something is right or wrong. A Storied Childhood; The Impact of Stories On Children s Social And Emotional Development introduces a quote by Dr. Zipora Shechtman in her book Treating Childand Adolescent Aggression Through Bibliotherapy that discusses how stories are connected in forming our ... • 4. Child Abuse And The Rights Of A Child Surrounding any contemporary social issue are a set of relationships that negotiate the circumstances. Social work is embedded inside a range of these relationships including the economic system, service delivery organisations, the state and the poor. Specifically looking at practice with children suffering from abuse and neglect, this essay will identify how these relationships shape social workpractice with the poor. For the purpose of this essay, child abuse will be defined as any acts of harm, ill treatment, neglect or deprivation of a young person in Aotearoa, New Zealand. These acts are defined only as abuse if they risk the childs wellbeing and survival. Child abuse is an offence as it violates the governments responsibility to protect the rights of a child. UNICEF (2003) identifies New Zealand as holding the third highest number of child maltreatment related deaths amongst rich nations. The rights of a child have been breached when they are failed to be protected, provided for and are unable to participate in New Zealand society. While statistics prove this issue is prominent and relevant, child abuse fails to be approached in a successful manner. The direction to approaching this issue is to identify every relationship that works to create this problem. Failing to recognise these relationships in child abuse has significant consequences in New Zealand s future. Impacts of child abuse not only lead to deaths and physical detriments but also impacts survivors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Characteristics Of A Successful Time Period During Late... The traits that define a successful time period in late Imperial China are necessary expansion, unifying the people, and the construction of an effective and incorrupt political structure. The effects of meeting these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short term and long term, as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or try to imitate successful policies. As a team, the Kangxi emperorand his successor, the Yongzheng emperor, were able to achieve all of the goals for a prosperous period in Chinese history. Although it was a relatively short period, the Kangxi and Yongzheng emperor s times on the Qing throne were extremely complementary, and ultimately came together to form the most successful time period in late Imperial China. The Kangxi emperor s greatest contributions to the Qing Dynasty were his impressive military forces used to expand his lands and keep peace within them, and his ability to establish a foundation for order in those lands. The Kangxi emperor was on the throne for sixty one years, and brought expansion and a stable government to the Manchu Qing dynasty by integrating Manchu and Chinese interests and making traditional Chinese institutions function again. • 8. The Australian Media Is An Available And Reliable... The Australian media is generally considered to be an available and reliable information source for Australian society. The media therefore has a strong influence over the information of social and individual opinions. Refugees are people who have been forced to leave their home because of war, natural disasters or persecution. The media represents this category of people using a narrow group of information, presenting a particular skew of opinion, which is passed onto the individuals who place trust in these sources. Through the media interpreting the typical Australian, generally not showing the reality of immigrants it allows society to disregard refugees or asylum seekers as they do not fit this ideal Australian. This ideology of the Australian has caused a history of social categorization and discrimination, often based in a racial or religious difference between the British Australian settlers, and a variety of groups, including: the Indigenous community, Chinese gold rush settlers, and Mediterranean immigrants. Recently, these social categorizations have been strongly targeted toward those seeking asylum on Australias shores. The rapid evolution of technology and the media has caused dramatic changes in the way that society, and the individuals within it have understood and approached these issues. The media in its news form is considered to be a highly trusted source of information. This gives them a huge influence over Australia s views over certain topics. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Supply Of Supply Chain Management Essay The supply chain management basically involves processes and activities which are involved in the planning, organising, controlling and implementing the cost effective flow of goods from the point of origin to the point of consumption. The whole process will have different players like the supplier, manufacturer, distributor, retailers and the customers themselves as the end point of consumption. The supply chain has changed drastically over the years. This days they are very global in nature. Involving various complex interactions and flow of goods, data and funds between companies which are situated in different countries and continents. Even though the companies are spread across the world the manufacturing plants generally follow a similar structure which normally comprises of the suppliers, manufacturing plants, distributors, retailers, inbound and outbound logistics providers. There were a lot of challenges which arose because of the competition which made the companies to rethink their strategies in order to get the product to the right place at the right time at the lowest cost possible. The companies should always look at improving the whole supply chain and every player in the chain should coordinate with one another if they want to increase the efficiency. The organisation should realise the strategic importance of supply chain as it is a key to building a sustainable competitive edge. (Li, Ragu Nathan, Ragu Nathan, Rao, 2006). • 11. Internal And External Conflicts In The Time Of The Doves MercГЁ Rodoreda s immersive novel, The Time of the Doves, presents numerous realistic conflicts and their effects on an ordinary citizen. Natalia, the protagonist, is challenged with several internal and external conflicts that range from an inability to express herself to a war fueled famine. Rodoreda uses personal experience, as well as knowledge of the typical female role during the Spanish Civil Warto add a personal outlook on the conflicts she presents. Natalia s internal conflicts are compelling, and can be applied to a large portion of women, in the past and today. As for the external conflict, Natalia s sufferings with the effects of warcan be applied on a cultural level to most of Spain, during the Civil war, and universally to any war struck country. Throughout the novel Natalia is challenged with several internal conflicts, many of which originate from external conflict with her husband, Quimet. Natalia is a meek, mild, young woman in the beginning of the novel, It was hard for me to say no if someone asked me to do something (15). Quimet juxtaposes Natalia s personality in almost every way, he is obsessive, possessive, and controlling, ...and said if I wanted to be his wife I had to start liking everything he liked (22). Quimet persuades her to marry him and leave her fiancГ©, Pere. He often challenges Natalia s confidence and persuades her to do and agree to things she is uncomfortable with, creating internal conflicts for Natalia s inability to protest or decline. For instance, Natalia does not want Quimet to build the dovecote and raise the doves, but does not possess the adequate confidence to voice her opinion. Natalia is generally unable to convey her feelings of rage and discontent to the other characters, she often remarks on her difficulty to verbally express herself to the audience. Many factors of Natalia s life also create external conflict, most prominently the famine caused by the war, she struggles to keep her children fed and is plagued with guilt, I had two mouths to feed and nothing to put in them. I can t describe how sad it was (134). Natalia is eventually forced to make drastic decisions to try to spare her children, including sending her son, Antoni, to a children s ... However, the children of the two houses loveeach other. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, it shows the two main character s experiences illustrates that true love is powerful and capable of conquering reason, family, and hate. For example, even if one wears a mask to a party to hide his identity, one can still recognize the individual by their voice and their by their actions. This evokes to the reader that Romeo and his comrades love for women distracts them from reasoning, and make them decide to attend their enemy s ball. Additionally, Romeo s decision to kill himself without any genuine reasoning after hearing about Juliet s death, illustrates the point that love is more powerful than reasoning. Romeo cries, Well Juliet (Romeo) will lie with thee tonight (V.I.34). This quote proclaimed by Romeo shows he has given up on life right after hearing the horrible news. Yeats, relates the story of a child who is lured away by fairies to a fantasy world illustrated through rich descriptions of nature and the freedom it offers. The plot of the poem becomes a metaphor for the return to innocence that the author feels is necessary in a society that is attempting to lead children away from the mysticism and innocence that characterize childhood, toward a more mundane reality as an adult. With his vivid descriptions and use of extended metaphor, Yeatsis able to create a world unaffected by time, in stark contrast to the world in which we live, to illustrate his dissatisfaction with reality. This imagery would support Yeats message that we must rekindle the innocence and abandon of our youth, which has been controlled and limited by the confines of modern society. The use of rushing water as a symbol of freedom continues in the third stanza where Yeats describes how the wandering water gushes... in pools among the rushes (28). In the final stanza, Yeats draws his most striking contrast of all to illustrate his message. He does this by following the descriptions of nature in its wildest form, of the previous stanzas, with those of the domestic atmosphere from which the child is being taken, in this stanza. Initially, Yeats established the setting of the poem in the first stanza by describing a place Where flapping herons wake / The drowsy water rats (5). This is contrasted in this stanza with images of calves on the warm hillside / Or the kettle on the hob / Or... the brown mice (45). Calves, kettles, and mice are all images that are associated with a domestic farm or a country home. Thus, this imagery is being used to portray how modern society has enslaved nature, controlling its freedom. And that maybe why there is a great number of conflicts in this world. People always have a stereotype view of the people who has a different view with them, and things are even worse when someone is the only one person that has a different view. A good argument does not mean being the only one who is right, but by providing a valid explanation. Providing a valid argument is necessary and providing a logical and reasonable proof to support argument is more persuasive. However, the personalities also play an important role in the process of the argument because they affect the ways of thinking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Juror 4 is an educated and logical man because all of his arguments are based on the facts and evidence. He also notices some details that other jurors ignored at the beginning. He illustrates that the murder weapon, which is an unusual carved handle and blade knife is a strong evidence that proves the boy is the suspect because the knife is so unique and the shop owner also confirms that the knife the boy has is the only one in stock. And it is not possible that the knife just fell out from the boy s pocket and someone picked it up and stabbing the victim or someone else use the exactly same knife to kill boy s father because it is a not possible coincidence. Other jurors don t accept an incredible coincidence like this as well. After listening to Juror 4 s argument, however, Davis presents his own argument, which is the coincidence is possible. But Juror 3 stands out and rejects Davis s argument that he doesn t think it is possible. At this point, Davis shows other jurors a very similar knife just like the boy s. Davis points out his evidence to confirm his argument is correct, which is it is possible that someone stabbed a very similar knife and killed the father, because Davis bought this knife in a shop that is two blocks from the boy s house. That shows if Davis does, anyone else could buy an exactly same knife. After Davis explains his argument, even though majority of the jurors still are not convinced by his argument, Juror 2 begins to question the murder weapon because he thinks this is an interesting point to consider about and Juror 11 says the knife was important to the district attorney, which shows that Davis s argument attracted some ... Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is ubiquitous in media. The Movie The Brothers Grimm Tangled does a really good job making sure they don t make Repunzel look weak and giving her a lot of power, but they totally forget about the male of the story Flynn Ryder. The Brothers Grimm on the other hand manage to have no masculine stereotypes for the prince but they make Repunzel look like a helpless lamb. In the original Brothers Grimm fairytale Repunzel just agrees to marry a total stranger and has no second thoughts about such a plan. In Tangled she ties him up and hits him over the head with a frying pan. When he tries to smoochz her she hits him again. These opposite reactions have to do with the time period. If disney had come out with something with as bad of a message as the original Brothers Grimm everyone would have been really upset at the poor influence it had on young woman. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines archetype as the original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies. Joseph Campbell s A HeroWith A Thousand Faces introduces the common archetypes often found in various pieces of literature, explaining The parallels will be immediately apparent; and these will develop a vast and amazingly constant statement of the basic truths by which man has lived throughout the millenniums of his residence on the planet, in his preface to the 1949 edition. Examples such as the Green Knight, a product of Morgan le Faye and Morgan s castle and everything that lies within it support this idea. Although, not only can green represent the envy that makes the story, it can also represent a connection to nature, perhaps even other worldly. The fact that the Green Knight made up of green demonstrates a very important relation between him and the world, revealed through his weapons of choice such as his holly branch and axe. Meanwhile, red and gold, strongly associated with Gawain, contrast the Green Knight s green and gold. The color red represents love and life (blood) while gold represents wealth and prosperity. The colors serve as a wonderful visual to Gawain s character very noble. The role of the temptress, a character archetype identified by Joseph Campbell, tests the moral values of the hero in the hero s journey. In mythology, sirens or nymphs often depicted the temptress, but in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the temptress took the form of a human seductress. In the poem, as Sir Bertilak sets off to hunt every morning, the lovely Lady Bertilak, otherwise known as Sir Bertilak s wife, pays Sir Gawain a visit. A seductress should bear some beauty to impose the threat of seduction, because this gives the temptress the ability to hold power over the hero s head with something he or she wants, or something material. Gentrification Of Gentrification And Labor Markets Introduction The study of urban spaces, especially with respect to gentrification, has increased dramatically in significance and relevance in the past several decades. With the resurgence of city living s popularity, urban revitalization has occurred in neighborhoods across the United States and brought with it significant economic and social change. Gentrification is known as a process of moving in wealthier residents and thereby increasing property values. From this, many conclude that it constitutes neighborhood revitalization insofar as it improves the economic value of the area. Therefore, a major consequence of this revitalization is that it often displaces low income residents and small businesses (Zukin, 2010). Though much research and discourse exist to examine the plights of these residents and firms, a frequently overlooked subject is gentrification s ability to displace labor from an economic standpoint. This review will primarily demonstrate that the limited research on gentrification and labor markets has concluded that a relationship between the two does seem to exist. In particular, the literature has shown that gentrification may negatively impact the manufacturing sector of the labor market, which has negative implications for urban economies. The review will also summarize the consensus reached by the scholars in the field, and it will identify the trends observed in their research. Out of the total population of the Brazilian colony in 1585 numbering some 57,000 people, 14,000 were African slaves (Burns 49).
