Curtis Sittenfeld s Argumentative Essay
In Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld, Holden would like Lee because she is a predictable person. For
instance, she is predicted to do anything anybody asks her to even though if she does not like it
or promised that she would never do it again because she puts peoples needs before her own. For
instance, And this was it, the last time: I was retiring from cutting hair (158). This shows that
Lee is retiring from hair cutting because she felt disgusted by Aspeth and Cross behavior. They
were flirting in front of her when Lee was cutting Aspeth s nasty blond hair. My hair desperately
needs cutting (164). This shows that Lee is predictable because after she vowed that she would
not cut anybody s hair anymore, she cut Ms. Moray s hair a few days after

Physics Of The Catapult

The Origins And Physics Of The CatapultWhen we think of catapults we usually imagine them
firing at castle walls during the medieval times, or standing in the background of a large army
clashing with another in an action movie. However, catapults have a long and intricate history that
twists and binds with our own, dating all the way back to 399 B.C. First documented by the Greek
historian, Diodorus Siculus, in the form of an early design for the Ballista (type of catapult).
Catapults were a staple for siege warfare all throughout history. The catapult was used by many
different cultures, notably the Greeks, Roman, and Chinese in siege warfare; also ... Show more

The physics concepts associated with them are projectile motion, energy, momentum, forces ,
speeds, and distances. The kinds of catapults all use the same theme of accumulated tension, but
acquire that tension in their own way, their own design. The Mangonel catapult for instance, is
what most of us think of as the traditional catapult. A large wooden device with four wheels and a
spoon that launches fireballs. The Mangonel stores energy much like a spring would, therefore, we
use the equation PEspring = 1/2kx^2. The tension in the ropes and arms of the catapult when
pulling on its long arm stores potential energy which is transformed into kinetic energy when fired
upon.(Melvin, Mangonel Physics of Catapults ) The speed and distance of the projectile depended
on how much force the catapult applied to the projectile, and the momentum depended on the mass
and the velocity of the projectile (dead diseased cow, or flaming

The Influence Of Ethnic Identity
Second of all, to understand if ethnic play a major influence on the status of an individual we need
to know what ethnic really means. According to the textbook, positive ethnic identity is an
important aspect to have a sense of personal identification with an ethnic group so that means that
the values and cultural traditions are shared among that ethnic group(Sigelman Rider). Every human
being has a distinct personality which is the primary building block for the formation of identity.
The personality characterizes how a person behaves and view things. The personality is developed
way before identity, during the early infancy. The personality defines the unique characteristic of
the thoughts, behaviors and feelings of a person which helps to develop the self identity. The self
identity being of an ethnic group begins during the infancy when the babies notice the difference
among the people. In the article, Stages of Ethnic Identity Development in Minority Group
Adolescents, it was mentioned that the process of identification development among the ethnic
group can be similar but the issues that they face can be very different (Phinney, 1). Ethnic group
plays a major role on how people talk, dress or view their status in the society. Stereotypes are also
a common problem that influences the identity formation. Stereotypes are based on personal point
of view and attitude toward a subject matter. Stereotyping is commonly visible among the societies
which often alter the

Breast Lift
Every woman who resides in Manhattan wants to look her best. One area of the body that many
women would like to rejuvenate and enhance is their breasts: Board certified, plastic and
reconstructive surgeon Dr. Nina S. Naidu performs breast enhancement procedures to provide
women residing in and around NYC them with the youthful looking, voluptuous breasts they desire.
A Breast Lift
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that is specifically designed to address pendulous breasts and
large nipple areola complexes. During a breast lift, Dr. Naidu reshapes the breast tissue and
removes any excess breast skin. She then elevates the breasts and moves the nipple areola
complexes to a higher position on the breasts: This provides the patient with more ... Show more

You may need to discontinue taking certain medications prior to surgery. If you smoke, you will
need to stop smoking for at least eight weeks before and after your breast lift with augmentation.
You may be required to have pre surgical testing (a mammogram, blood work, etc.) or visit your
family physician to attain a preoperative clearance.
A Breast Lift with Augmentation in Manhattan: The Surgical Procedure
For your safety, on the night before your breast augmentation with a lift, you must avoid eating or
drinking after midnight: This short fast ensures that you do not have anything in your stomach prior
to your surgery.
A breast augmentation with a lift usually takes about three hours to complete. Dr. Naidu performs
her surgical procedures in a NYC hospital or ambulatory surgery center.
Patients do receive general anesthesia during their breast lift with augmentation. Since this is an
outpatient procedure and patients receive anesthesia, transportation to and from the surgery center
must be arranged prior to the day of surgery. In addition, Dr. Naidu likes her patients to have
someone remain with them for at least the night following their breast lift with augmentation.
Marking the Breasts
Dr. Naidu will visit you in pre op to mark your breasts. She will also answer any questions you have
about your surgery and/or

African Colonialism During Post Colonial Colonialism
It is evident that European colonialism had deeply affected the political system within post colonial
Africa. One of the main leading legacies of colonialism that hindered the development of post
colonial African states would be the ethnic division and the state conflicts resulting from ethnic
rivalry after independence . Scholars would argue the weakness within African politics would be
due to creation of forty new states brought about by the European colonial powers in the Berlin
Conference of 1884 to 1885; which had artificial state borders within the continent having little to
none parallelism to reality. For example, Nigeria is clearly demonstrates that the legacy of the state
boundaries that had created new political entities carried. Moreover, with the colonies
compromising of many different religions, ethnic groups and languages, there were cultural
differences that had created ethnic divisions and rivalries which had been intensified after
independence in post colonial Africa. After Nigeria had become independent in 1960, the military
took over and the economic situation worsened, this had led to rising conflicts between the two
main ethnic groups, the Hausa and the Igbo, as to who should have power in the new country .
This was because Nigeria was a new political entity as it was a product of colonialismand being a
new political entity, it had no previous experiences beyond the control of the colonial powers. This
clearly demonstrates the effects of ethnic

The Patterns Of Segregation In Major League Baseball
Another avenue that can be discussed in the sport that is being managed and why it may be
harder for minorities to take over. A look in Major League Baseball, shows that baseball is
America s pastime. With the sport being a white dominated sport by leadership, it s harder for
minorities to integrate into leadership roles. Sack, Singh Thiel (2005) suggests, there is reason to
believe that positional segregation by race and ethnicity, or stacking, does have an indirect,
disparate negative impact on minorities. There are patterns of segregation in the sport of baseball
and it continues since everyone that is brought into the professional baseball world are actually
playing the sport and not owning the team. . Sack, Singh Thiel (2005) noted,

An Analysis of Anne Bradstreet s Poem, To My Dear and...
The poem To my Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet, is not just an exceedingly felt
expression of a wife s marital love and commitment to her husband, as it is about a puritan women
who is supposed to be reserved but she makes it her obligation to enlighten her husband of her
devotion. A thorough analysis of the poem s paradox, hyperbole, imagery and repetition reveals
how she conveys her message. The opening lines of the poem show how strong her feelings are for
her husband. Bradstreet shows this by the use of a great example of a paradox, if two were one,
then surely we. This shows that the magnitude of her loveand affection is so deep that she s
comparing two beings as one. She praises her love for her husband so much... Show more content

I m really surprised to learn that this was not common back for puritan women back then. In my
opinion, the author is very open about how she feels about her husband. You can tell that
throughout the poem she is repeating herself and stressing on the same idea over and over
again. She praises, adores, and loves her husband and is taking an initiative to show it by writing
this letter to him. It s interesting how she began the poem by using the word ever in the first two
lines and how she ended it with the same word on line 12. Then while we live, in love lets so
persevere That when we live no more, we may live ever. I would like to end my analysis of this
poem by stating a paradox that can be found at the end of the poem in lines 11 12. Her love for
her husband is on such a level that she wants to preserve it while they live and even after they die.
It s amazing to me how much love one can have for a person. The poem s main idea is not just
centralized on how much Bradstreet loves her husband, but also on a Puritan woman who takes the
initiative to show her love to her husband which was very uncommon back

Cart 1 Lab Report
Graph 1 shows the collision of two cart with the same mass. Cart 1 has a mass of 0.508Kg, and
cart 2 has a mass of 0.514Kg. Cart 2 is indicated with a green line, and Cart 1 is show as a red
line. The graph is depicting an example of a perfect inelastic collision. An perfect inelastic collision,
is when two object collide with one another, sticks, and travel as one. The momentumof the objects
are conserved, but the kinetic energyis lost to some other outside factor, for example thermal
energy or sound energy. The graph shows cart 1 moving from 0 50 cm, with a velocity of
0.4836m/s and cart 2 is position at 50 cm at rest (0m/s). Cart 1 collides with cart 2 at
approximately 1.2 seconds, with the velcro sides attached, the two cart move together in what

kinetic energy is directly proportional to the squared velocity, you can see the lost of kinetic
energy in table 1. The sum of kinetic energy shown in table 1, before collision is 0.059joules,
while the sum of kinetic energy after collision is 0.021joules. This graph shows an lost of
approximately 0.03joules of kinetic energy. Nevertheless, the momentum of the carts was
conserved, showing that the sum of momentum before collision for the carts was 0.246 Kg.m/s,
while after collision, the momentum was distributed between the two carts at 0.10 Kg.m/s evenly,
giving a total of 0.20 Kg.m/s and showing that the momentum was conserved. The small deviation
in the decimal place value can be as a result of some experimental or calculation

Groupthink Differences
The term groupthink was coined in 1952 by William Whyte a business author and editor in Fortune
magazine (West Turner, 2014). However, it was not until 1972 that Irving Janis combined the
concept with foreign policy decision making and a communication context (Janis, 1972; in West
Turner, 2014). The main tenet of groupthinkis that the need for everyone to agree causes the group
to suppress conflicting opinions by means to get along and make decisions. It is a way of
deliberation that minimizes conflict and emphasizes the need for unanimity (West Turner, 2014, p.
252). However, this may result in neglecting better and more effective decisions that deviate from
the conformity. My experience since transferring to The College of... Show more content on

Janis in relation to foreign policy decision making and in the context of communication, it can be
expanded to, although it does not apply directly, other situations such as my experience with
Student Film Union. Not all the antecedents applied to my experience and the decision made
about what kind of short film we are to make as club will most likely not be unethical due to my
lack of input. However, Groupthink also appears frequently in the business world (Sims, 1992). A
desire for cohesion and quick decision making, neglects the effective and unheard ideas which are
silenced in result. To avoid Groupthink, the ideas of all group members must be considered,
leaders should be impartial, the isolation of the group should be avoided, and decisions should not
be made

The Renaissance And The Renaissance Era
When looking back at the array of time periods discussed in modern history, some stick out more
than others. One historical period that stands out in regards to the richness of the culture, as well
as the progressions in civilization, is the Renaissance era. Culture was a huge part of the
Renaissance era. The vast artistic styles in all aspects of life during this time made for such a
cultural focus. The Renaissance era was called a rebirth of cultural awareness; theatre was a large
part of this, including Shakespeare s Globe Theatre. To understand the role theatre played in
shaping the Renaissance era one must understand what exactly the Renaissance was. The
Renaissance is normally thought to have begun in Italy during the fourteenth century and to have
ended in the late sixteenth century (Atlas). The Renaissance was described as a movement that
affected all aspects of culture, literature, and scholarship as well as painting, sculpture and
architecture and that consciously sought to recover and revive the achievements of classical
antiquity (Atlas). The diffusion of Renaissance culture from Italy to Europe was made possible
partly by the way Renaissance culture had diffused and changed within Italy (Atlas). When the
Renaissance movement reached Europe the English Renaissance began. This is thought to have
occurred in the early sixteenth century continuing until the early seventeenth century. This era in
England was called the Renaissance, meaning rebirth, because of the

The Bird Motif Of Hitchcock s Films Revisited
Robin Wood, in Hitchcock s Films Revisited, argues that much of the meaning that the audience
derives from Psycho involves spectatorship through character development.1 What makes Psycho
such a timeless film is its intricate and extensive use of symbols. One symbol never really takes
precedence over the other, and are largely left up to the viewer s interpretation. Psychos symbols
have not been discussed in great detail based on the information presented in the readings thus far
this semester, but this dissertation will attempt to illuminate the purpose of at least one of these
symbols: that of the bird. Hitchcock uses the bird both obviously and ambiguously throughout the
film. These instances, which are primarily psychological and sexual in nature, are developed
through the film s two central characters, Marion Crane and Norman Bates, and reveal fundamental
truths about the psyche and about human nature in general. The bird motif, despite being a central
element of Hitchcock s films, was developed before the action of the film even commences. This
film was based off of a book, of the same name, by Robert Bloch. In the novel, the central female
protagonist s name is Mary, and in the film, it is Marion. Both women, however, share the same
last name: Crane.2,6 Cranes, like Marion herself, spen[d] much of their time in self directed
activities to maintain life. 3 Marion lives very much in her own microcosm, with a noncommittal
man and a mundane office job as its stars.

How The Romans Built Aqueducts
Ancient Romans have had a huge impact on influencing modern civilizations, through several
factors ranging from architecture to literature to engineering. The Romans engineering skills
contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. Their bridges and roads tied their
empire together and made travel easier especially for merchants and soldiers. But it is the Romans
water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very
skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some
aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct
is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most
important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it
way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. The water provided by the aqueducts was
used for different purposes which include mining, processing, manufacturing, agriculture, supplying
public baths, latrines, fountains and private households with water. Among the most notable water

could be delivered to public fountains. Public baths and fountains became distinctive features of the
Roman Empire, and in particular the baths became important social

random declarations of phrases or obscenities (2,3). The facial and body tics associated with the
disorder can be painful and even embarrassing. Involuntary body movements such as jaw snapping,
gyrating, hopping, and obscene gesturing are to name a few (1). Tourette Syndrome was named after
a French neuropsychiatrist named Gilles de la Tourette who successfully assessed the disorder in

Vocal tic behavior in patients diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome include outbursts of
meaningless words or phrases. The vocal tics disrupt the regular flow of speech and cause the
patient to stammer or stutter (1). Inappropriate outbursts called coprolalia are considered
involuntary. Coprolalia may also take place in this display of vocal tic disorder. However,
coprolalia only takes place in a small number of Tourette Syndrome sufferer s (1).
Each individual suffering from Tourette Syndrome should be evaluated as such. Certain
manifestations of Tourette Syndrome may disable one in certain parts of their life such as in their

Comparison Between Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Prompt 1: An Exploration of Self Self is a definition of who we are, and that definition can come
from two sources: ourselves and those we are close to. The resulting person is usually some
combination of the two perceptions of self. In the works The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, this idea of
selfis explored. We see how a pair of characters meddle with their own definition of themselves and
the eventual ramifications of the changes made. Interestingly, although the results are very
different, the two pairs follow the same rules when it comes to the definition of self: the truth will

calculations for Jack and Algernon are a little more complicated, but follow the same basic

Heroes usually hold the same values; honor, nobility, integrity, and strength. Now what happens
when a person does not hold those heroic values? What if their motivations did not have good
intentions? These are the questions that will be answered using the deconstruction critical lenses.
The Greek myth of Theseusand the Minotaurhas evolved into the modern trilogy of Batman which,
when deconstructed, reveals how the selfish motivations of these supposed heroes can be perceived
as heroic under the right circumstances.
In the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur the young Athenian prince Theseus sets out on a
hero s journey to conquer the minotaur and gain fame. On Theseus s journey he encounters
multiple obstacles, which he overcomes with the help of different companions he meets along the
way. The young Theseus beings his journey emanating the values of a hero which during the
Greek era were: honor, nobility, integrity, and strength but as time passes he slowly begins to lose
those values until finally these qualities are replaced with arrogance. Before Theseus made his
trek to slay the minotaur he was already known as a hero, as he had made the trip to Athens from
his mother s home in southern Greece on foot. The journey on foot itself is not too harsh, what is
harsh are the obstacles one faces along the way. One such obstacle were bandits, the young Theseus
had no qualms

Gender Roles In Middlemarch
The Portrayal of the Relationship between the Sexes in George Eliot s Middlemarch
George Eliot s epic Victorian novel Middlemarch is a fascinating study into the lives, characters
and connections of the residents of a fictional provincial midlands town. It deals with the
constraints of everyday life, the struggles both external and internal experienced by the very
realistically drawn characters and how they act and react to them. It is set during the period of the
early 1830 s, a critical juncture historically when Britain was on the cusp of change politically,
industrially, technologically and economically. Middlemarchcandidly portrays the evolving stark
contrasts between the male and female protagonists in the novel and the particular roles ... Show

While her female characters are mainly strong women they all display a large level of
compliance to the will of their menfolk. Women in the nineteenth century were financially,
intellectually and emotionally dependent upon their male kin (Gleadle, 2001, 51). They were
expected to provide unstinting support for the head of the house, i.e. the man. Women did not
have a formal role in Victorian society and were legally subject to their husbands in all things but
Eliot in Middlemarch manages to imbue her female protagonists with a sense of stoicism that
renders them a force to be reckoned with, especially if their marriages are under any threat.
Robert McCrum in The Guardian described it thus Middlemarch looms above the mid Victorian
literary landscape like a cathedral of words in whose vastness its readers can find every kind of
addictive discomfort, a sequence of raw truths: the loneliness of the disappointed failure in Dr
Lydgate, the frustrations of his discontented wife, Rosamond, and the humiliation of a good woman

How Did Tsar Nicholas II Create A Backwards Economy Of Russia
Introduction:
Unlike other countries having a democratic government, Russia was ruled by a monarchy,
therefore Nicholas II inherited the role of Tsar after his father passed away from kidney
inflammation in 1894. There were many reasons behind why Russia was considered as having a
backwards economy and the Russo Japanese War was a major setback for Russia. Bloody Sunday
took place and shortly afterwards Nicholas II was compelled to introduce the October Manifesto ...
. Nicholas II
Tsar Nicholas II was a problem for the social, political and economic well being of the early
Twentieth Century Russia.
Russia s backwards economy:
Nicholas II was raised watching his father rule autocratically. He was not prepared by no means to
rule, and most likely took this as the best approach to ruling a country since it is how his father did.
Tsar Nicholas II refused to stray from what he knew, and more importantly what his father practised
as an autocrat whilst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no workers, Russia was put under pressure as this meant no transport, schools, shops and
factories were in working order. They banded together for many destructive acts such as rioting,
stealing, street performances and destroying Tsarist authoritative symbols. This was a political
issue for Russia as workers were fighting for their rights.
October Manifesto:
Nicholas II introduced the October Manifesto on the 30th of October, 1905. Once the October
Manifesto was introduced to the people, they believed he was making a step in the right
direction. This piece of paper, written by Sergey Witte, promised political reforms after ten
months of strikes, a lot of political debate and attacks of violence. Little did the people of Russia
realise that this was the Tsar Nicholas II s plan to please, however he had no intentions of acting on
this or changing his ways.

Example Of Prospect Theory
Prospect theory is a theory of decision making under conditions of risk. The theory is best known
for its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with
respect to losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a
reference point.
Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral
decision theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility
theory into a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S
function curve of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical
explanation. But Tversky and Kahnemen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospect theory is considered substantive rationality rather than procedural rationality. Substantive
rationality is the optimization of a given goal under given conditions and constraints, and is a
function of goals and situational constraints but not intervening reasoning process. While
procedural rationality focuses on the decision making process. Therefore, the prospect theory
cannot be adapted to the cognitive rational debate . The evaluation stage in the prospect theory is
more similar to the rational economic theory. But it is the theory editing and framing have more in
common with cognitive process theories. To conclude, the prospect theory research program is a
limitation of the theory but not a fatal flaw.
Shortcomings of Prospect Theory
a)The descriptive generalizations on which prospect theory is based emerge from static conditions
of experimental research in highly structured, non interactive laboratory settings make it difficult to
extrapolate its findings to the complex world of international relations where the consequences of
one s actions are partially a function of the actions of another.
1)It is extremely difficult in the real world to identify whether an actor selects a particular option
because of framing, loss aversion, or any other anomalies of expected utility

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) And The Acquired...
IntroductionThe Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome (AIDS) do not seem to be a major topic of discussion in the World today. Especially
within the United States, HIV and AIDS are not conversed about as openly as perhaps it was in
the past two decades. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the
end of 2010 there were approximately 1.1 million people living in the United States with the HIV
virus. Of those 1.1 million people, about 16% did not even know they were infected (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2010). Each year there are approximately 50,000 new
HIV infections within the United States (CDC, 2010). Within the 50,000 new cases of HIV
infection, the elderly population is the fastest growing segment within the United States (Sankar,
Nevedal, Neufedl, Berry, Luborsky, 2011, p.2). By 2015, adults who are ages 50 and older will
make up approximately 50% of all HIV/AIDScases in the United States (Effros, Fletcher, Gebo,
Courtney, Halter, Hazzard, High, 2008, p. 542). With the increasing number of HIV/AIDS
infections, the demand for prescription drug cocktails has increased. Half of the population
diagnosed with HIV/AIDS does not receive regular health care (CDC, 2010). Due to this there are
a huge economic impact on the U.S. When it comes to the cost of medication and treatment, many
patients are not able to afford the inflated prices, especially the elderly

Analysis Of The Worst Years Of Our Lives By Barbara...
Almost everywhere people go today there are TVs: in restaurants, schools, doctors offices, and
homes. There is no way to escape the reach of technology. Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of The
Worst Years of Our Lives, believes that people are becoming couch potatoes because they are not
going out and doing the activities they see on TV. Generally, Ehrenreich is correct in her belief;
people spend more timewatching TV, than living a healthy lifestyle and interacting with the people
around them. Furthermore, the social health of people is suffering due to watching TV, over

Argumentative Essay On Food Stamps
Food Stamp of Approval Everyone is guilty of judging another person at some point in his or her
life whether they realize it or not. For instance, if you see a child screaming uncontrollably in
Wal Mart, you might think his parents didn t raise him in a correct way. Society makes it so
easy to criticize others between all the tabloids and articles on social media. While criticizing
others may be easy, we all know it is wrong. While the problem remains in our judgement of the
people around us, the solution centers around tolerance and equality. Because I am a cashier at
Town Country, I see many different people come into the familiar regularly. It is my job to treat
customers with utmost respect while they are shopping there. However, I sometimes tend to
silently disprove of some people due to their payment methods. Most states offer foodstamps to
people who need some financial assistance. Food stamps allow people to buy strictly food items
without using their own money. The initial purpose of food stamps is simply to provide help for
those families who qualify for the program. Although food stamps are meant to assist those in need,
some individuals tend to abuse the system. That infuriates the taxpayers in the United States.
Taxpayers get frustrated when individuals on food stamps come in and buy very expensive or
unhealthy groceries. The taxpayers then think their money is being used to support an individual s
unhealthy eating habits.

Saber Toothed Cat: Smilodon
The Saber Toothed Cat was a very common animal during the time of the Ice Age and with the
end of it also the time of the Saber Toothed Cat ended. Most known for their long canines,
scientists assume that the Saber Toothed Cat was an effective hunter, even if the long saber like

Organized hunters and social animals or scavengers? The family of Saber Toothed Cats includes
too many and too different species to put information of all into one essay, so we will specialize on

scientists think they had a similar colored fur to tigers which made it harder to locate them in bush

During the process of becoming successful, people have to try their best to face many difficulties

Bear Sterns Rise and Fall
The rise and fall of Bear Stearns
Introduction
Bear Stearns, the fifth largest investment bank in US, was established as an equity trading house
in 1923 by Joseph Bear, Robert Stearns, and Harold Mayer. Its headquarters was located in New
York City with offices in the major US cities, South America, Europe, and Asia, employing more
than 13,500 people around the world. The firm survived every major crisis like the Great
Depression, World War II, the 1987 market crash, and the 9/11 terrorists attack and never had a
losing quarter in its history until December 2007, when Bear Stearns announced the first loss for

In the early 2000 s, after the Federal Reserve dropped the interest rate and raised the money supply

Globalization gives companies access to wider markets and consumers access to a greater variety
of goods and services. But the benefits of globalization are not always shared by all of the parties
involved in trade. Unfortunately, developing countries which need the potential benefits of
globalization the most are often the losers. The downside of global capitalism is the disruption of
whole societies, from financial meltdowns to practices by multinationals that would never be

The assignment I chose to revise, is our first assignment of the semester. The audience analysis
assignment. I chose this one because I had the hardest time with it. It also had the most
grammatical and technical errors so I decided to go back and revise so I can get a better
understanding of what I did wrong and how to fix it for the next time.

clearer understanding of the essay. Because, I did not use heading I need to be to appropriately
use the sections so that each one stood on its own and had a clear and precise subject on its own.

smoother and had completed thoughts.
Completeness
Overall, the analysis was complete. It had a complete thought and theme that flowed throughout
the essay. However, because of the organization of the essay, it was somewhat lost in the jumble
of it all. I also noticed that in my subject choice, I failed to able to expand on the two websites

The History Of 1960s Music In The 1960s
Music in 1960s
Music has been a part of the human race for as long as it has been existing. Its various forms and
genres categorizes and divides the music country wise, ranging from initially Folk music as the
base, moving on to Country music as a regions identity. The music gained enormous name and
fame because of its hypnotizing effect on the singer and the listener. From Rock n Roll, evolving
towards British invasion, music in 1960 s played a major role in evolution of UK.This evolution
was brought up by the introduction of rock and roll, collaborating different races and changing the
lifestyle thus transforming UK from a conservative country into the capital of the world.
Before rock and roll hit the Great Britain, blues and jazz were the genres of the era. Singers from
various nations like the US or Africa, started working solo or as bands and increased the impact
of music on people slive. Before the 50 s, various controversies arose regarding the style of Jazz
and Blues, and their effect on the local residents and The British Invasion also began around 1963
with the arrival of The Beatles on the music scene and the type of rabid fandom that followed them
would change the way people would view and interact with me and musicians forever. (The People
History). Although rock and roll began influencing Britain in the 1950s, it wasn t until the early
Sixties and the emergence of British Invasion groups like The Beatles, that music truly began its

De-Extinction Cloning
Should Research on De extinction and Cloning be continued?
Have you ever imagined how it would feel when extinct species, like woolly mammoths and
passenger pigeons, are brought back to the Earth? How would it be like to revive long dead
species? Obviously, many would imagine it to be amusing and fascinating. There are numerous
discussions ongoing that address the prospect as well as the impacts of de extinction and cloning. I
believe that de extinction and cloning, though seem fascinating at first, are not really worth
millions of dollars and hundreds of hours being spent for them. First, we should be protecting the
endangered species so that they do not get extinct, rather than reviving those that are already
extinct. Second, there are numerous problems with de extinction like tiny market, ethical issues,
and some more technical such as the complexity of resurrecting extinct genes, and then
interspecies cloning. Moreover, we have heard about several scandals and cases of misusing
genetic technology and cloning, due to which it has been a topic of constant public debate. As the
saying goes prevention is better than cure , instead of spending limited resources for the research
on reviving a few species wiped away by humans, conservationists should focus on preserving the
endangered ones.
To begin with, spending limited resources just to resurrect a few species does not seem wise to

some cannot control is their genetics. Several people that are centenarians also had members of
their families that lived long lives. Even though it is not certain a person will live to be a
centenarian, maintaining a healthy body weight, exercising regularly, not smoking, and eating a
healthy diet can all be contributing factors. Experts also agree that where a person lives, good
diet, active lifestyle, and supportive family structure play a role in a person s longevity. I m sure
these are all important factors, but there are no guarantees because life is unpredictable. Buskak,

The Life Of Pi As A Spiritual And Uplifting Movie
The Life of Pi was a very spiritual and uplifting movie. The producers did a fantastic job finding
the correct cast and supporting actors. Suraj Sharma, the actor that plays Pi, did a terrific job
both drawing emotions out of the audience, and keeping the wild plot believable. Mr. Sharma
was very convincing as a young man trying to find god. The special effects and computer
generated images were breathtaking. The island scene was specifically done well. They really
make the movie visually interesting and are the glue that holds the movie together, for the
simple fact, eighty percent of this flick takes place on a life boat with a raft attached. The
soundtrack was well constructed, with a slow build up with dramatic crescendos. The score of
this movie really places the viewer inside the movie .Unfortunately, without the effects,
soundtrack, and dramatic imagery, The Life of Pi would be a very dry movie. One problem I had
with The Life of Pi is the overuse of symbolism and metaphors. It seemed as if everything director
Ang Lee put into his filmhad to have three different meanings, and at times, it muddied up the plot
and was confusing. For example, the night scene in which the fish were glowing underwater.
Then a whale jumps out of the ocean nearly capsizing the life boat. I assume that scene had a
deeper meaning but, for the life of me I can t figure out its purpose. The movie was clearly about
religion, survival, and introspection on the human condition.Pi is a very

The Use Of Identity Experimentation By Robert Graves
1. Homosexuality is illegal in over seventy five countries all over the world. I personally grew up
thinking I was a mistake for being attracted to girls, and as a direct result of institutionalized
homophobia, I suffer through countless micro aggressions every day. When Robert Graves was
my age, he survived similar emotional trials due to being attracted to boys in the brutal British
boarding school environment, which is difficult if not impossible to recover from. Today,
however, he is known instead for his war service and prolific writings, and in his memoir, the
soldiery is the main showcase. His portrayal of identity experimentation can be interpreted as an
example for how homosexualitywas and is treated. Graves autobiography is actually a testament to
the subtler forms of bigotry. Within the Charterhouse community, Graves provides examples of his
reactions to homophobia, as well as the later culmination of that internalized bigotry. As a queer
person, he struggles with the harmful power dynamic of predatory teachers and older boys, and as
an intellectual, he expresses the similar struggle of a desire to be accepted which are often the
same assertions still on the lips of modern queer activists.
2. Graves description of early, potentially traumatizing, experiences with women are essentially his
preamble to, and justification of, his later male love, seemingly subscribing to the idea of a
situational sexuality. At ten years old, he went with his sisters to their

Cross Functional Alignment in Supply Chain Planning: A Case Study of Sales and Operations
Planning Abstract
In most organizations, supply chain planning is a cross functional effort. Functional areas such as
sales, marketing, finance, and operations traditionally specialize in ... Show more content on

We expect this type of integration in supply chain planning in a highly differentiated organization to
require quite a broad and explicit cross functional reach. Although particular cross functional
interfaces have been developed e.g., marketing and logistics (Ellinger, 2000; Stank, Daugherty, and
Ellinger, 1999), and purchasing and manufacturing (Fawcett and Magnan, 2002) very few
organizations have achieved the

broader reaching integration that consistently develops multi functional plans that are executed in a
coordinated fashion (Barratt, 2004; Fawcett and Magnan, 2002). While researchers have partially
addressed the roles and infrastructure required for integration, most of their proposals result from
attempts to address coordination (e.g., Celikbas, Shanthikumar, and Swaminathan, 1999; Chen,
2005; Porteus and Whang, 1991) or from organizational level analysis across firms (e.g., Lawrence
and Lorsch, 1986; O Leary Kelly and Flores, 2002). Furthermore, very little empirical research has
been done on functioning integration approaches (Malhotra and Sharma, 2002) and a detailed
understanding of interdepartmental integration based on micro level data has yet to be established

The Purpose Of The Correctional System
Correctional systems are a network of agencies that administer a jurisdictions prisons and
community based programs like parole and probation boards. These systems are also known as
penal systems. The correctional systems include police, prosecution and courts. Although the penal
system is different all around the world the purpose of it is the same. In the United Statesour
correctional system has numerous similarities and differences compared to other countries. When
comparing our system with other country s, like France, it is obvious that we do things differently
from what they would. Even though they define crimes differently, and decide punishment in a
different manor, France still expects to achieve the same thing we wish to achieve,

Monopoly Industry And Its Economic Effect
Monopoly Industry and its Economic Effect.
We live in a world where different economic systems exist and its existence is can create balances or
imbalances in the economical arena. These economic system can be characterized as Laissez faire
economy, command economy and a mixed economy, implemented by each state. Within those
segments of economy, a country can have companies following different structures of industries in
the marketplace with distinctive levels of competitions.
To understand how fluid a country s economy can be, it would be wise to understand a bit more
about the types of industries involved here. An industry can be described in four types; Pure
competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition and oligopoly.
In the Pure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Last, but not least industry is the monopoly industry and this is the industry we will dig further in
this discussion.
Since monopolistic competition or oligopolistic market structures are the most commons in the
United States, it would be very interesting to actually analyse more of the monopolistic structure
industry and how that impacts the economy overall. In order to understand more about the
monopolistic industry is important to understand the fundamental of this industry.
In the monopolist industry only one seller sells a products and take over the control of those
products. In this industry there is no close substitutes. Its also important to understand that in order
for that to happen this firms are given exclusive protection of production by the government. Not
just by the government, but these firms can acquire their monopoly through a smart and efficient
free market production and with economies of scale.
To better have a picture of a monopoly industry, why not given examples of one major monopoly
industry in the world, the Microsoft. Not sure if there is familiar to this product, but if anyone
wants to buy its software, windows is the only choice since they are the only ones who provides
it. So whether we like windows or not, if there is need for a computer that s the only one we can
buy. Another example, nationally recognized is the U.S postal service, where there is no
competition and it s protected by the government. Whether

JonathanPeriod 4 23 February 2017Busch 1 The Origins And Physics Of The CatapultWhen we think of catapults we usually imagine them firing at castle walls during the medieval times, or standing in the background of a large army clashing with another in an action movie. However, catapults have a long and intricate history that twists and binds with our own, dating all the way back to 399 B.C. First documented by the Greek historian, Diodorus Siculus, in the form of an early design for the Ballista (type of catapult). Catapults were a staple for siege warfare all throughout history. The kinds of catapults all use the same theme of accumulated tension, but acquire that tension in their own way, their own design. The Mangonel stores energy much like a spring would, therefore, we use the equation PEspring = 1/2kx^2. The tension in the ropes and arms of the catapult when pulling on its long arm stores potential energy which is transformed into kinetic energy when fired upon.(Melvin, Mangonel Physics of Catapults ) The speed and distance of the projectile depended on how much force the catapult applied to the projectile, and the momentum depended on the mass and the velocity of the projectile (dead diseased cow, or flaming ... • 4. The Influence Of Ethnic Identity Second of all, to understand if ethnic play a major influence on the status of an individual we need to know what ethnic really means. According to the textbook, positive ethnic identity is an important aspect to have a sense of personal identification with an ethnic group so that means that the values and cultural traditions are shared among that ethnic group(Sigelman Rider). Every human being has a distinct personality which is the primary building block for the formation of identity. The personality characterizes how a person behaves and view things. The personality is developed way before identity, during the early infancy. The personality defines the unique characteristic of the thoughts, behaviors and feelings of a person which helps to develop the self identity. The self identity being of an ethnic group begins during the infancy when the babies notice the difference among the people. In the article, Stages of Ethnic Identity Development in Minority Group Adolescents, it was mentioned that the process of identification development among the ethnic group can be similar but the issues that they face can be very different (Phinney, 1). Ethnic group plays a major role on how people talk, dress or view their status in the society. Stereotypes are also a common problem that influences the identity formation. Stereotypes are based on personal point of view and attitude toward a subject matter. Stereotyping is commonly visible among the societies which often alter the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. African Colonialism During Post Colonial Colonialism It is evident that European colonialism had deeply affected the political system within post colonial Africa. One of the main leading legacies of colonialism that hindered the development of post colonial African states would be the ethnic division and the state conflicts resulting from ethnic rivalry after independence . Scholars would argue the weakness within African politics would be due to creation of forty new states brought about by the European colonial powers in the Berlin Conference of 1884 to 1885; which had artificial state borders within the continent having little to none parallelism to reality. For example, Nigeria is clearly demonstrates that the legacy of the state boundaries that had created new political entities carried. Moreover, with the colonies compromising of many different religions, ethnic groups and languages, there were cultural differences that had created ethnic divisions and rivalries which had been intensified after independence in post colonial Africa. After Nigeria had become independent in 1960, the military took over and the economic situation worsened, this had led to rising conflicts between the two main ethnic groups, the Hausa and the Igbo, as to who should have power in the new country . This was because Nigeria was a new political entity as it was a product of colonialismand being a new political entity, it had no previous experiences beyond the control of the colonial powers. A look in Major League Baseball, shows that baseball is America s pastime. With the sport being a white dominated sport by leadership, it s harder for minorities to integrate into leadership roles. Sack, Singh Thiel (2005) suggests, there is reason to believe that positional segregation by race and ethnicity, or stacking, does have an indirect, disparate negative impact on minorities. The poem To my Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet, is not just an exceedingly felt expression of a wife s marital love and commitment to her husband, as it is about a puritan women who is supposed to be reserved but she makes it her obligation to enlighten her husband of her devotion. A thorough analysis of the poem s paradox, hyperbole, imagery and repetition reveals how she conveys her message. The opening lines of the poem show how strong her feelings are for her husband. Bradstreet shows this by the use of a great example of a paradox, if two were one, then surely we. I m really surprised to learn that this was not common back for puritan women back then. In my opinion, the author is very open about how she feels about her husband. You can tell that throughout the poem she is repeating herself and stressing on the same idea over and over again. She praises, adores, and loves her husband and is taking an initiative to show it by writing this letter to him. It s interesting how she began the poem by using the word ever in the first two lines and how she ended it with the same word on line 12. Then while we live, in love lets so persevere That when we live no more, we may live ever. I would like to end my analysis of this poem by stating a paradox that can be found at the end of the poem in lines 11 12. Her love for her husband is on such a level that she wants to preserve it while they live and even after they die. It s amazing to me how much love one can have for a person. The vast artistic styles in all aspects of life during this time made for such a cultural focus. To understand the role theatre played in shaping the Renaissance era one must understand what exactly the Renaissance was. The Renaissance is normally thought to have begun in Italy during the fourteenth century and to have ended in the late sixteenth century (Atlas). The Renaissance was described as a movement that affected all aspects of culture, literature, and scholarship as well as painting, sculpture and architecture and that consciously sought to recover and revive the achievements of classical antiquity (Atlas). The Bird Motif Of Hitchcock s Films Revisited Robin Wood, in Hitchcock s Films Revisited, argues that much of the meaning that the audience derives from Psycho involves spectatorship through character development.1 What makes Psycho such a timeless film is its intricate and extensive use of symbols. One symbol never really takes precedence over the other, and are largely left up to the viewer s interpretation. Psychos symbols have not been discussed in great detail based on the information presented in the readings thus far this semester, but this dissertation will attempt to illuminate the purpose of at least one of these symbols: that of the bird. Hitchcock uses the bird both obviously and ambiguously throughout the film. These instances, which are primarily psychological and sexual in nature, are developed through the film s two central characters, Marion Crane and Norman Bates, and reveal fundamental truths about the psyche and about human nature in general. The bird motif, despite being a central element of Hitchcock s films, was developed before the action of the film even commences. This film was based off of a book, of the same name, by Robert Bloch. In the novel, the central female protagonist s name is Mary, and in the film, it is Marion. Both women, however, share the same last name: Crane.2,6 Cranes, like Marion herself, spen[d] much of their time in self directed activities to maintain life. 3 Marion lives very much in her own microcosm, with a noncommittal man and a mundane office job as its stars. ... IntroductionThe Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) do not seem to be a major topic of discussion in the World today. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the end of 2010 there were approximately 1.1 million people living in the United States with the HIV virus. Of those 1.1 million people, about 16% did not even know they were infected (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2010). Within the 50,000 new cases of HIV infection, the elderly population is the fastest growing segment within the United States (Sankar, Nevedal, Neufedl, Berry, Luborsky, 2011, p.2). Essay On Smilodon Saber Toothed Cat: Smilodon The Saber Toothed Cat was a very common animal during the time of the Ice Age and with the end of it also the time of the Saber Toothed Cat ended. Most known for their long canines, scientists assume that the Saber Toothed Cat was an effective hunter, even if the long saber like teeth were very fragile (function is still not clear). However, what were those cats in reality: Organized hunters and social animals or scavengers? The family of Saber Toothed Cats includes too many and too different species to put information of all into one essay, so we will specialize on Smilodon, the most common Saber Toothed Cat. I believe that de extinction and cloning, though seem fascinating at first, are not really worth millions of dollars and hundreds of hours being spent for them. Second, there are numerous problems with de extinction like tiny market, ethical issues, and some more technical such as the complexity of resurrecting extinct genes, and then interspecies cloning. Moreover, we have heard about several scandals and cases of misusing genetic technology and cloning, due to which it has been a topic of constant public debate. As the saying goes prevention is better than cure , instead of spending limited resources for the research on reviving a few species wiped away by humans, conservationists should focus on preserving the endangered ones. I personally grew up thinking I was a mistake for being attracted to girls, and as a direct result of institutionalized homophobia, I suffer through countless micro aggressions every day. When Robert Graves was my age, he survived similar emotional trials due to being attracted to boys in the brutal British boarding school environment, which is difficult if not impossible to recover from. Today, however, he is known instead for his war service and prolific writings, and in his memoir, the soldiery is the main showcase. His portrayal of identity experimentation can be interpreted as an example for how homosexualitywas and is treated. Graves autobiography is actually a testament to the subtler forms of bigotry. Within the Charterhouse community, Graves provides examples of his reactions to homophobia, as well as the later culmination of that internalized bigotry. As a queer person, he struggles with the harmful power dynamic of predatory teachers and older boys, and as an intellectual, he expresses the similar struggle of a desire to be accepted which are often the same assertions still on the lips of modern queer activists. 2.
