Cause And Effect Of The Spill
On the Easter Sunday of March 24, 1989 an oil tanker destined for Long Beach, California was
stopped short of its destination when it struck the Prince William Sound s Bligh Reef (PWS). In
charge of the ship was Captain Joseph Jeffrey Hazelwood. It was reported that Captain Hazelwood
was not at the bridge of the ship during the incident. Furthermore he was accused of alcohol
intoxication that might have contributed to the event. This event caused a catastrophic oil spill that
resulted in 11 million gallons of crude oil spreading throughout the ocean. At that time, it was
considered the largest oil that had ever happened in the United States, hence, it was expected to have
devastating effects on the ecology and the different species living ... Show more content on

In charge of the ship was Captain Joseph Hazelwood. At the time of the time incident, Hazelwood was
reported to be in his stateroom while leaving Third Mate Gregory Cousins in charge. This led to the
failure of the ship to return to the shipping lanes and eventually thrashing through the Bligh Reef.
Although Captain Hazelwood was accused and charged of alcohol intoxication while on duty, Captain
Hazelwood was acquitted of that charge, instead the state charged him with a misdemeanor
negligence. This misdemeanor gave Hazelwood a $50,000 fine and 1000 hour of community service.
Nearly twenty seven years ago is when the event took place and yet there are still thousands of gallons
of oil that pollute the beaches near Prince William Sound. The oil found in the beach still has it
adverse effects on the ecosystem near the shore. Although, observations have led for most to believe
that natural removal of the oil will take place overtime, a decline in the rate of oil removal have
proved them otherwise. From 1989 to 1992, the annual rate for natural oil removal was at 80%, the
following years of 1989 to 2001 took a staggering decline at a rate of 22%. After 2001, a mere 4% rate
was all that was left to defend the oiled shore of Prince William Sound. Efforts to clean the oil proved
to be difficult due to its remote location and reachable only by air and sea

The North China Plain ( Ncp )
22 The North China Plain (NCP) is currently standing between the prosperous
23 economic growth and the severe water crisis. Its important economic role in the nation
24 can be easily seen through statistics: In 2013, its GDP amounted to 15 trillion Yuan (1
25 Yuan 0.16 USD), about 26% of the whole nation. Its industrial value added
26 accounted for 42% of the region s GDP, reflecting its high level of industrialization
27 (NBSC, 2014). However, its water resources condition is mismatched with the
28 economic development. The region possesses less than 5% of the nation s water
29 resources (NBSC, 2014). The average per capita water resource is 330 m3 (NBSC,
30 2014), less than 1/5 of the water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A series of measures
40 have been implemented to rescue NCP from the water crisis. The South to North
41 Water Diversion Project (SNWDP) is one of these measures. The basic conception of
42 the project is to borrow some water from the Yangtze river to the water scarce NCP. 43 The first
phase of the project has just been completed in the end of 2014. The project
44 is envisaged to alleviate the water pressure in NCP, provide water for the
45 rehabilitation of the degraded ecosystems, and secure a balanced development for the
46 whole nation (Liu and Zheng, 2002; Berkoff, 2003; Gu, et al., 2012).
47 In contrast to the visible real water transfer, an invisible or hidden water
48 movement also takes place between NCP and the rest of the country as well as the
49 other countries. That is virtual water, the water used for the production of goods and
50 services (Allan, 1993). The concept of virtual water provides an additional perspective
51 to view the relationship between economic activities and use of natural resources. As
52 one of the economic hubs in China, NCP is closely connected with other regions and
53 countries through trade of goods and services. The virtual water embodied in these
54 goods and services has posed significant impacts on the water resources of NCP.
55 There have been many studies on issues relating to water transfer in China. In
56 these studies, the real water and virtual water are

Administrative Discretion Essay
Administrative Discretion
Melissa T. Massey
Public Administration
13 December 2011
Administrative Discretion
Administrative discretion is a discretionary action is informal and, therefore, unprotected by the
safeguards inherent in formal procedure. A public official, for example, has administrative discretion
when he or she has the freedom to make a choice among potential courses of action. Abuse of
Discretion is the failure to exercise reasonable judgment or discretion. It might provide a Cause of
Action for an unconstitutional invasion of rights protected by the due process clause of the
Constitution (West s Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2. Copyright 2008 The Gale Group, Inc).
So do I think that public administrators ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where administrative discretion can go wrong because it can be bias for personal reasons,
sexual reasons, anything. My question would be what it the faculty members were having their own
personal issues and they could not separate work from home and the allowed there personal issues
control the decisions of the students punishments that could probably effect the rest of their lives.
Another factor of a disadvantage is the sex linked method the female faculty member may have been
an emotional to her decision with the students if they were crying or had a compelling story of how
they would act out oppose to the male faculty member who was demanding as far as being a
disciplinarian. Then we also have to take into consideration age and race could have played a factor
for the faculty in this case. The female had to deal with she was younger so she may have related to
the students as well as being African American which did honestly play a part back in that time even
current statics dated in 2010 showed that African Americans were only 9% of the teacher population
within the whole nation..
In conclusion, administrative discretion has its good points and bad. I do not think that all government
power should have the discretion. As the people of the United States, we should take a moral and
value poll towards the administrators within our government, or like a genuine lie detector

Three Colonial Groups In Colonial America
Beginning in 1625, the United Kingdom of Britain and the United Kingdom of Scotland started their
colonial dominance of the Americas in Massachusetts Bay. The two countries later joined to form
Great Britain. The colonies spread to other parts of America, including Georgia, Virginia and
Maryland. The French, on the other hand, colonized North America as the Spanish occupied colonies
in the south and, thus, all three colonial groups were in constant struggle to oust each other and
occupy greater territory in the Americas.
Equality was only a dream in America in from 1700 through 1750. Native Americans and immigrants
affiliated to each of the three colonial groups were subjected to slavery. Louisiana, for example, was a

Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method
In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize
the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as
follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are
squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal
is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then
suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy
detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which
continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user
uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times
the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results
showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has
lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy
detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver
Operating curves) is used to analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami
fading channels. Results showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC,

The Dangerous Game Compare And Contrast
In The Dangerous Game, Rainsford is stuck on an island known as ship trap island, after falling off his
yacht, and is met by a ruthless, hunter who murders for sport. In High Noon, The newly married Will
Kane is scares by the news that Frank Miller is coming back to town. He sent him to jail for murderer,
but now, him and his gang are back for revenge. Although the film High Noon and the short story, The
Dangerous Game have many differences like conflicts, there are a lot of similarities like setting and
characters.
It is amazing how a rogue, western town and a isolated, wild island can be so similar in setting. The
setting of these stories are both presented really well in these quotes. In High Noon, it says, But when
they read about shooting and killing in the streets, what are they going to think then? (Foreman, 315).
This quote represents the lawlessness of the western town because there is shooting in the streets
without any restriction. Another quote with many similarities in the Dangerous Game states, Hunting?

this is proven very well in The Dangerous Game. It says, If my quarry eludes me for three whole days,
he wins the game. (Connell, 14). Since Rainsford has three whole days, he can do a lot more than
Will, as he can and will set traps, but Will is stuck with only approximately one hour. Amy says that at
10:51, and the train comes at noon. It says, We ve got an hour! (Foreman, 297). That quote helps
pinpoint how long they have, as soon as they know. In comparison, there is a big difference because
Will has to scramble and decide whether to stay or leave, which takes time, and then has to get
deputies, which takes even more time, and really cuts it close. Rainsford, on the other hand, has a lot
more time to think and set up traps, but Zaroff knows the forest well, which is another

Symbolism In The House Of The Scorpion
In The House of the Scorpion, Nancy Farmer states, No one can tell the difference between a clone
and a human. That s because there isn t any difference. The idea of clones being inferior is a lie.
Members of the Alacrán household try to choose Matt s destiny before he is created and impose false
allegations on him throughout his life. The belief that Matt is dangerous, a useless clone, and will
become like El Patrón leaves him no room to create an identity of his own. In the House of the

interprets that he does not have his destiny chosen for him but he becomes his own person through his
experiences. The theft of Matteo Alacrán s identity

Bargo s Identification Evidence Analysis
The first grounds for an appeal, in regards to Arika s testimony, is that identification evidence of
Bargo at [20] was wrongly admitted. Except as otherwise provided in the Evidence Act 1995 (NSW)
(EA), in order for evidence to be admissible, evidence must be relevant. Evidence will be considered
relevant in a proceeding, if that evidence when accepted, could rationally affect the assessment of the
probability of the existence of a fact in issue in the proceeding. The facts in issues are the elements of
the crime with which the defendant is being charged. Identification evidence from a witness is made
up of the witness asserting that the accused is the person the witness heard, saw, or smelt perpetrating
the crime. In the present case, Arika s testimony would be classified as identification evidence, as she
asserted that Bargo was the person who she had seen rape her.
However, if identification evidence has been admitted, the trial judge is required to give an
identification warning to the jury, that there is a special need for caution before accepting
identification evidence; and of the reasons for that need for caution. Section 114 also sets out a general
rule, that visual identification evidence adduced by the prosecution is inadmissible, unless the ... Show

This article looks at a company that was experiencing unprofitable growth and weak cash flow
activity. The authors examine how an ABC method allowed the company to become more
competitive, to look at their current product mix and product lines, and ultimately, to improve cash
flow and product profitability.
Discussion Questions 1. Why for any manufacturer is proper inventory management important? 2.
What are the elements of an ABC system? 3. What is a cost objective? 4. Why are duration drives
used in an ABC system? 5. What internal factors limit the ABC model s ability to influence the
decision making process in a company?

Kolya s Characteristic In City Of Thieves By David Benioff
City Of Thieves Author David Benioff of the suspenseful novel, City of Thieves, does a remarkable
job at developing the witty, humorous, brave, and optimistic character known as Kolya. Kolya begins
this novel as an unlikable and unpleasant character but gradually redeems himself by displaying more
admirable traits. Throughout this intriguing novel, despite his arrogance and frequent reckless
behavior, Kolya has proven to be a very likeable and sympathetic character.
Kolya, an alleged deserter of the red army during World War II was first portrayed and thought of by
others as bold and overconfident. With his manacles hands, he managed to push up the left sleeve of
his great coat, the left sleeve of his army sweater, the left sleeve of the ... Show more content on

Throughout the story, it is made evident that Kolya truly does sympathize with Lev. Kolya never
wants Lev to feel badly about himself. He never fails to give Lev encouragement in hope of lifting his
spirits. You didn t want to go up to that apartment. I was the country fool who insisted on it. So you
don t owe me an apology. And i don t think you re a coward. Anyone with a spoonful of sanity would
have run. (Benioff 65). This is a perfect example of Kolya giving Lev encouragement and
sympathizing with the fact that Lev felt bad for leaving Kolya in the apartment to fight the Giant
alone. I find it thoughtful that Kolya didn t want Lev to feel down or bad about himself so he
proceeded to tell Lev that anyone with common sense would have ran and even though he fled, it
doesn t reflect on his strength and bravery. While this is just one example of Kolyas compassion, his
sympathy is shown in more ways than just one. He opened his eyes, his pale blue cossack eyes, and
smiles at me. We both knew he was going to die. He trembled lying on the back seat beneath his great
coat, his teeth very white against his blue lips. I have always believed that smile was a gift for me.
Kolya had no faith in the divine or the afterlife; he didn t think he was going to a better place, or any
place at all. No angels waited to collect him.

The Dangerous Enlightenment
The Dangerous Enlightenment When the Enlightenment was in full swing it was influencing the way a
whole society thought. The Enlightenment was changing very quickly. The way of thinking was
intended to be for the greater good, but had also came with some criticism. During the Middle Ages
the concept of the City of God defined an entire society. Everything was based on faith, and that was
the only way believed to find out the truth in everything. The Enlightenment went against that idea by
applying science and facts as proof, rather than solely with faith. Reason was now being used to find
truth in something rather than faith. It seemed that the societies views would have to change from one
extreme to a new. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

made clearer than ever before. They were to be viewed as the weaker sex, and whose looks would help
them to get what they wanted. The Enlightenment would express these views in the previous stories
wrote about women. In Diderot s writing, the women were either attractive and stupid or smart and
average never a combination of both (Schue Lecture. By limiting women they were also limiting what
they had the potential to be. Putting them in a box that would be hard for them to escape. The

This country doesn t help its citizens as much as it thinks it does when it comes to family leave. A fact
from the Los Angeles Times(2014) states that, The federal government deems workers eligible for
unpaid parental leave only if they have been with their employer for at least 12 months, if their
employer has at least 50 employees, and if they worked at least 1,250 hours during that year long

Rewarding Volunteers
Running Head: Rewarding Volunteers Rewarding Volunteers Rewarding Volunteers Understaffing is
one of the emerging and escalating grave issues in the modern world of today, because of the growing
of fierce competition in every facet of life. Understaffing for a shorter span of time within the
organization does not result in creation of long term issues. However, if this understaffing is extended
for a longer period and becomes permanent, the organization is likely to experience catastrophic
impacts, as it creates significant problems for both the individual and the organization (Chartrand,
2004). While on the other hand, the Online University has employed volunteers at their broadcasting
station because of budgetary constraints. The problem of understaffing has been observed at Online
University due to the ineffectual program director that did not get along with the volunteers.
Considering the aspect of understaffing at the Online University, numerous causes add to this problem.
The program director that plays the role of a leader is a vital and imperative position that has
contributed to understaffing to a large extent (Chartrand, 2004). The overload of the jobs and tasks
that is the extra work required to accomplish by the existing volunteers raise the probability of burning
out of the volunteers due to longer working hours in order to fulfill the responsibilities of certain roles.
This long working hours and handling multiple tasks simultaneously simply results in

Casey Bat Anticlimax
Casey at the Bat is a well known poem, written by Ernest Thayer, about baseball. The plot of the story
is that the Mudville baseball team is down, 2 4, with two outs, late in the ninth. Two of the worst
batters get on base, then their best batter, Casey, steps up to bat. Ultimately, Casey strikes out, and
Mudville loses. Many people that haven t read this poem before expect a drastically different ending.
What would this kind of ending be called? The ending of this story in particular would be called an
anticlimax. An anticlimax is when a story builds up suspense, and keeps building, until the end. The
ending is kind of a let down; not what a reader would have expected. A great example of anticlimax
would be when the two worst batters got

This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison Essay
Samuel Taylor Coleridge once asserted that poetry is the blossom and the fragrance of all human
knowledge, human thoughts, human passions, emotions, language
Coleridge s view of poetry epitomises the value poetry has for our modern society. Poetry conveys
complex, relevant issues through different styles of poetry. Coleridge was a prominent member of the
Romanticism movement of the nineteenth century.
The Romanticism movement emphasised the individual s experience and the healing power of nature.
Some key features of Romanticism were idealism and focus on emotional passions. Romantic poets
created imaginative atmospheres and believed that nature and humanity were interconnected.

This is especially evident in Coleridge and Cummings poems; This Lime Tree Bower My Prison and
anyone lived in a pretty how town , respectively. These poems epitomise the different feelings of love,
resentment, selfishness and happiness.
The conversational style of This Lime Tree Bower My Prison creates a connection between the reader
and the poet. Coleridge uses a lime tree as a metaphor for prison, illustrating how everyday objects
can have different meanings. He exaggerates his feelings as he says Friends, whom I may never see
again! (Coleridge 1797). Nature is connected to his feelings of joy as he says and happiness,
highlighting the effect of nature on humanity.
Cummings defies grammatical norms which furthers his poem s message of American life. He
represents social norms as he says someones married their everyones (Cummings 1940). The common
fear of being forgotten is portrayed in a nonchalant way as the speaker says i guess anyone died one
day (Cummings 1940). He uses parentheses to indicate shifts in tone and he doesn t follow the rules of
grammar. This makes the poem attractive to the reader and influences their style of poetry. Cummings
techniques encompass Romanticism and common feelings of

Personal Reflection Of The Pain Management On 2B
I have been taken care of 4 patients towards the end of my time on 2B. I think I handled it well. It can
be challenging sometimes. For example, I had to discharge one patient by 10am. And the staff meeting
for my newly admitted patient was around the same time. Besides, one of my patients approached me
to have PRNs, the forth patient also requested a shave. On 2B, shaving has to be supervised by staff.
All my patients needed me at once. I learned to ask help from other RNs and delegate appropriate
tasks to NA in order to get things done on time. Sometimes, we don t have enough help. I had to
prioritize my tasks and patients needs. Of course, I offer my help to my fellow RNs when they re busy.
I had completed blood draws for others many times (11).
The pain management on 2B is quite different. (7) This is because many of the common non
pharmacological interventions are considered unsafe due to the high suicide risk in our patient
population. There is no heat or cold pad due to the toxic chemical contents. K pad is also not available
due to the long tubings for risk of strangulation. Aromatherapy is also out of picture. I often feel
limited when my patients ask me for pain interventions as there are not as many options available as in
other units. Fortunately, there are organized group activities offered by OT daily on 2B. They mainly
focus on relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness practices. I encourage my patients to participate in
those groups, and practice those

The California Osteoporosis Prevention And Education Act
Every year, about one third of everyone over the age of 65 falls, and do not report it to their doctors.
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries in older people (Falls Among Older Adults).
Falls become more common as people age because their bones become more brittle and their muscle
mass decreases. In society today, the baby boomers are aging, which means falls will continue to
increase in frequency. When a person falls, it doesn t just affect the victim; it affects everyone. In
2012, approximately $30 billion went towards medical costs that were associated with falls (Falls
Among Older Adults). To prevent more people being injured and more money being spent, there has
to be a change. In 2010, the California Osteoporosis Prevention and Education Act was established.
This acts intent is to spread public awareness of osteoporosis, how it can be prevented, and to improve
the way osteoporosis is treated. Half of all older women and 15 percent of older men will suffer a
fracture related to osteoporosis (Stone). Not only would it spread awareness of the disease with the
older generation, but also with physicians and other medical personal to educate them on how it can
be treated. Along with the California Osteoporosis Prevention and Education Act, there is Welfare and
Institutions Code Section 9450 9454. Theses sections focus on people and the idea of aging in place ,
and how adjustments to the home can make it safer for people. Section 9451 s intent is

The Dead And J. Alfred Prufrock Analysis
Many people don t usually put the words love and dead in the same sentence, because they believe the
two are as different as night and day. These same people would find it hard to believe that the
similarity between Gabriel Conroy from The Dead and J. Alfred Prufrock from the The Love song of
J. Alfred Prufrock would be so uncanny. Gabriel and J. Alfred Prufrock are both very insecure,
uncomfortable around women, and also pathetic.
In today s society many have insecurities including, and not limited to, the way they look and the way
their actions will be viewed by others. Gabriel Conroy from The Dead is insecure in more ways than
one. In The Dead Gabriel s insecurity about whether or not he should include a quotation from
Browning can be found when he thinks He would only make himself ridiculous (p.g.10 ) showing he
is very insecure about what his peers will think of him for including the quotation. Gabriel can be
shown to also have insecurities about his feelings No, it was not the moment yet. (pg. 65), showing
him in the light of not being able to show or tell his feelings toward Gretta. Insecurity not only
knocked on Gabriel s door, but it also has knocked on the door of J. Alfred Prufrock. In The Love
Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Prufrock is being insecure about the way he looks. This can be seen when it
says How his hair is growing thin! (line 41), and But how his arms and legs are thin! (line 44),
showing Prufrock s worry of what the women in the room will think and say about him. Both Gabriel
and Prufrock are similar in that they are very insecure.
Gabriel from the dead finds himself in uncomfortable situations, most of them being when he is
around women. In The Dead Gabriel finds himself in an uncomfortable situation with Lucy when he
says, I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days... (p.g. 8), which Lucy replies,
The men that is now is only all palaver and what they can get out of you. (p.g. 8), at this reply Gabriel
starts to feel uncomfortable. He tries to fix the situation by giving Lucy money, ..it s Christmas time
isn t it? Just here s a little (p.g. 9) this doesn t end up making the situation better, but instead he makes

Ancient People And Agriculture
Ancient people set a building block that we today still build upon. There are many ways ancient
people have done this, such as developing spoken language and inventing farming/agriculture. I think
that farming and agriculture had the biggest impact of all on society, from ancient to modern times,
because it helped people have a permanent home, develop more specialized jobs, and create new
technologies.
Before I start talking about farming and agriculture, I will explain a little about the history of it.
Farming and agriculture began during the Neolithic Era, or the New Stone Age, about 10,000 years
ago, first in Southwest Asia. The reason farming and agriculture was now possible was because the Ice
Ages ended. The Ice Ages were when there were long periods of freezing weather. During this time,
the whole ground would be covered in ice, and the sea levels were very low. The water was so low
that strips of land, called land bridges, let people cross rivers, seas, and maybe even oceans. Then, a

They did not have to be busy chasing herds of animals around just to stay alive, because the
introduction of farming and agriculture gave the community enough food. Because of their new
permanent homes, this also allowed them to develop new things, such as pottery, weaving, and even
one of the most important tools, the wheel. Farming and agriculture also gave people more freedom,
because now, since there is a reliable source of food, farms, there was much more free time that they
could spend on hobbies. The food surplus also freed people to specialize in jobs. People who are
talented at something, could choose that job, so they could be as productive to the community as
possible. They could also choose a job that they enjoyed to do. Also, permanent homes led to villages
developing, which then led to towns and

The Analytical Effectiveness Of The Assessment
As I reflect about the various assessments I utilized for my project, I have mixed feelings about the
evaluative effectiveness of the assessments. When I began examine Jen s formal assessments results
(such as, Running Records, BY and EY Benchmarks, Sound Identification/Sigh Word Inventory
forms), I believed the assessments would accurately demonstrate a positive progress Jen had made
during the course of the year. What I discovered was both an intended and unintended consequence of
assessment use. On the one hand, I found the assessments to be useful tools to gauge student literacy
abilities. On the other hand, I believe that the focus on assessment led to the teacher developing a
deficit mindset with Jen. Often times Jen s teacher narrowly would focus on Jen s inability to be at
grade level or lack of drastic improvement. In fact, the only thought Jen s teacher had was on the fact
that Jen did not meet the expected reading level for the end of the year for K 2. I believe if teachers
rely too much on assessment scores limits their ability to understand external factors or barriers that
influence a child s literacy. McKenna and Picard (2007) discuss the importance for teachers to view
students word miscue analysis beyond the checks on paper and formulas. McKenna and Picard caution
teachers to avoid focusing on the assessment scores because they believe children reading strategies to
decode words or understand a word meaning does not always mean reading proficiency.

Edmund Burke On The Sublime Analysis
Many people around the world get scared but we never stop and ask ourselves what is it that causes us
to be scared or to have fear over something or someone ? . Most of this has to do with our brain
chemistry since our brain is lightning fast at processing threat . There are people out there that enjoy
being scared because they see it as entertainment and accomplishment of facing their fears and leaves
them with a sense of confidence after it s over. Just the same way there s people that enjoy being
frightened there are other people that don t enjoy the feeling of being scared. From experience, most
people might think it s horrible to overreact and get scared but really all of us get scared at some point.
It all comes naturally even when we sleep we have nightmares which scare the living hell out of us.
Have you ever catched yourself being drawn to something that looks creepy and can t stop staring at it
for some reason ? We all have at some point and it gives you the chills that runs down your spine
making your hairs at the back of your neck stand up. When staring at these fearful objects, a part of
you wants to turn away and leave but the other part of you wants to keep looking at it because it s so
scary but yet amazing. There is a name for this term which is called the sublime and beautiful that
catches a person s attention. In the video Edmund Burke on the Sublime points out that usually
sublime has to do with anything that s dark, gloomy, terrifying, and

Disability Simulation Paper On Disability
Disability Awareness Simulation Paper
Disability simulation is the process where an able bodied individual assumes a position of the person
with disability to try and understand what really happens in the life of a person with disability. It is
offers experience that allows one to learn more about people living with disability and hopefully treat
them better; have a change of perception. It gives first hand experience on how life of person with
disability really is. A day alternating as a person on the wheelchair and as assistant had so much to
offer as will be illustrated below.
First was to use public transportation. My partner and I chose to ride the bus to catch a glimpse of
what using a wheelchair in the bus would mean. I was the assistant in this case. At first I thought it
would be an easy time working as an assistant. I expected to be given priority and special treatment as
I had a person on the wheelchair with me; but no. Boarding the bus was a bit difficult since the bus did
not have enough space to accommodate the wheelchair. We needed help to get in as the floor of the
bus was higher than the ground we stood on. In the bus, the wheelchair had to be folded while in the
bus since the space to put it was limited.
This was an eye opener for us to advocate for public transportation especially the bus to be modified
to accommodate persons with physical disability using a wheelchair. A lift or a ramp could be
provided for easy boarding of the bus. Additional space

every trial and tribulations happens for a reason and it makes others stronger in time. Bullying can be
a hard situation to go through but there is always light at the end of the tunnel. In my personal

Bullying is definitely a negative situation but at the end it gets better; therefore, if it s not a blessing
then it s a lesson. I went in to school and took a deep breath hoping and praying that nobody would
have seen me so I put my head down while looking at my feet. I felt like I wanted to run and hide, but

Cultural Value Of Food As Representing Advertisements For...
Cultural Value of Food as Represented in Advertisements for Dr. Pepper
Yulisa Garcia, Vanessa Rodriguez, Erika Garcia
Texas A M International University
Abstract
In this rhetorical analysis, the value of uniqueness and the use of flavors are expressed in an ad by Dr.
Pepper, a well known and popular company. These values are found within the appeals of logos,
pathos, and ethos. It also states the history of how this soft drink was created, the creator, and the year
it was created. Logos is expressed when the brand states that it contains 23 flavors and also includes
an image of a bottle with the number 23 as well with other phrases. Pathos is used in the ad when the
company states that no other drink has these flavors, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First was logos, a tool which helps the audience to trust a publication based on its facts. It uses real
information to support the use of logic. Next was pathos, which appeals to the emotions or what
people are feeling. It connects with the audience by showing or interpreting something the audience
relates to or shows interest in. Lastly, ethos is to what extent the audience trusts an author by relying
on their word and reputation. The author s credentials support what they are trying to convey or the
message they are trying to send to the audience about an ad or announcement.
Historical Context
Created, manufactured, and sold as a unique flavor, Dr. Pepper is the oldest in soft drinks in American
history. Charles Alderton, the creator of Dr. Pepper in 1885, was a pharmacist at Morrison s Old
Corner Drug Store, in the small town of Waco, Texas, where he was in charge of giving medication to
the people in Waco. In his free time, he liked to work at the soda fountain where he would serve
carbonated drinks.
His greatest invention came from the idea of the smell of the different kind of fruit syrups, and the
smell of the drug store he worked in. After giving a sample test of his new drink to the owner of the
drug store, and him liking the taste of it, Alderton gave his invention a greater opportunity to expand
by offering it at the soda fountain. His creation of this soft drink was exceptional, like no other drink,
making other soda fountain operators

The Is The Unacknowledged Entity That Exists Between The...
Homosociality is the unacknowledged entity that exists between the intestacies of solid masculinity
(Dellamora Masculine Desire, 2). Jean Lipman Blumen defines homosociality as:
Enjoyment and/or preference for the company of the same sex...it does not necessarily involve...an
explicitly erotic sexual interaction between members of the same sex (16). Lipman Blumen s
definition introduces this explicitly erotic sexual interaction to signify homoeroticism. Homoeroticism
is erotic emotions centred on a person of the same sex (Flood, 307). Flood omits any reference to
homosexuality in his term (unlike Lipman Blumen s definition) but implies that homoeroticism may
act as a secret desire centred on a person . This reinforces Thomas Gale s term ... Show more content

George. For instance, when George hook[s] his arm into Robert s arm showing affection to him, this

Braddon establishes a highly erotized setting when Robert and George go fishing. This intimacy is

still waters and branches [and] brooks enclose this intimacy between them (63). As Robert and George
are in a shady corner, why does Robert need his hat to be a screen from the sunshine ? It does though

bonding activity. Furthermore, George gets bored and [striddles] away along the bank leaving Robert
to his homoerotic thoughts (63). Therein, both men use the basis of male activity like fishing to

Subversion of Class and Gender Roles in Jane Austen s Persuasion
In Jane Austen s Persuasion, Mrs. Croft makes but few appearances and delivers little dialogue.
Nevertheless, Austen gives her significant narrative and thematic importance. Mrs. Croft provides a
foil for several of the Elliots, while developing a commonality with the frequently ostracized Anne.
This bond between Mrs. Croft and Austen s heroine valorizes Mrs. Croft s radical views concerning
feminism and marriage. Beyond signifying a paradigm shift in such social morals, though, the roles of
Admiral and Mrs. Croft allow Austen to subvert the dominant upper class culture. By exhibiting
superior but genuine manners, by demonstrating the complacency ... Show more content on

Because of this clear characterization of Mary, when we hear of Mrs. Croft s mild sea sickness, we
admire her fortitude while recognising Mary s sacrifice.
Mrs. Croft thus differentiates herself from Sir Walter, Elizabeth and Mary. She also redefines
femininity among these acquaintances. Although not conventionally pretty, neither tall nor fat (34),
she has bright dark eyes, good teeth, and altogether an agreeable face (34). According to Anne, then,
an unconventional woman can still be attractive. Furthermore, to describe her weather beaten
complexion (34), Anne gently describes how Mrs. Croft [seems] to have lived some years longer in
the world than her real eight and thirty (35). The emphasis on living in the world, instead of on
aesthetic descriptions like aged or wrinkled, indicates that Anne, (and therefore Austen), values
experience and intellect, more than physical beauty.
Similarly, Mrs. Croft defies conventional notions of domesticity as the female realm. Mr. Shepherd
reveals that, while considering leasing Kellynch Hall, Mrs. Croft asked more questions about the
house, and terms, and taxes, than the Admiral himself (17). Thus, Mrs. Croft manages perfectly well
in financial affairs. Furthermore, Mrs. Croft does not exhibit the female delicacy, as does Elizabeth,
who relies utterly

Periodic Trends Are Specific Patterns That Are Present
Periodic trends are specific patterns that are present in the periodic table they illustrate different
aspects of a certain element, including its size and its properties. Major periodic trends include:
Electronegativity
Ionization energy
Electron affinity
Atomic radius
Melting point
Metallic character
Periodic trends, arising from the arrangement of the periodic table, provide chemists and scientists
with a helpful tool to quickly predict an element s properties. These trends exist because of the similar
atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or periods, and because of the
periodic nature of the elements.
Electronegativity Trends
The definition of electronegativity is how strongly an atom can ... Show more content on

On the left hand side of the periodic table the elements have a half full valance shell, so meaning that
it is a higher energy level to gain electrons to fill that valance shell compared to less energy to lose the
electrons to complete the valance shell. Element on the left side usually lose electrons to form a bond.
Therefor elements on the right side are more energy efficient in gaining a set of electrons to fill the
valance shell. In a periodic table from left to right across a period, electronegativity increases. If the
valance shell is less than half full the atom loses electrons to balance out and the opposite if the atom
has a valance shell over half full. In a group from top to bottom electronegativity decreases. There is
an important exception noble gases, lanthanides, and actinides do not have electronegativity
principles, this is because they have a full valance shell so they do not usually attract electrons. And as
for transition metals, even though they have electronegativity values, they are little different going up
and down a group and going across a period. This is because of the transition metals, metallic
properties which affect their ability to attract electrons.
Ionisation Energy Trends
Ionisation energy is defined as the energy required for the removal of an electron from a neutral atom
in its vaporous phase. In theory, ionisation energy has to opposite characteristic to

Professionalism As A Dentist
What is a dentist ? To some, the mere word invokes fear, to others, it is simply a person who lectures
about and drills teeth. To me however, a dentist is a healthcare provider that, with the proper care and
skills, is an integral part of his/her community. A dentist must apply excellence, humanism,
accountability and altruism, the four models that construct professionalism, to his/her actions,
thoughts and treatments. A dental professional s concrete knowledge and performance level along with
an understanding of the lawful rights encompassing dentistry and their ability to explain and review
these dental facets with their patients, is a few of the many ways that the four propositions of
professionalism may be expressed by a healthcare provider. With that said, I believe professionalism

A Brieg Biography of William McKinley
William McKinley was our 25th great president. He did many wonderful things such as leading
America to victory in war with Spain. Some of his other concerns while in office include: domestic

served as an amazing president during his time in the Whitehouse until his assassination.
McKinley was born on January 29, 1843 in Niles, Ohio. He was the seventh child to his father,
William McKinley and his mother, Nancy Campbell Allison McKinley. As a boy, McKinley attended
a one room schoolhouse in his hometown until the age of nine. At that time McKinley and his family

private in the Civil War. McKinley joined the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry at age 18 and was
promoted to commissary sergeant at 19. He later became a Second Lieutenant because of his acts of
bravery on the battlefield. This would only be the start to his success.
McKinley won a seat in Congress in the House of Representatives in 1876 when he was 34 years old.

Men s National Soccer Team Failure Essay

As stated by Brian Phillips, for the New York Times, this loss shows the lack of progression of the

herself, through romantic novels, into believing her life is better than it actually is. Emma like most
things in her life romanticized what marriage would do for her. At the start of her marriage to Charles,
she believed marriage would be the means at which she transitioned from a farm girl to a wealthy
woman. She believed that marriage would bring her all she had longed for. However, her marriage to
Charles is opposite to that. Thus, she is constantly searching for something or someone to satisfy her.

Flaubert use of they and them, further separates Emma from the festivities of the upper class.
Additionally, as Emma is preparing for the ball, she is striving to appear as extravagant as possible.
She did her hair according to the directions of the hairdresser, and put on the barege dress (Flaubert,
42 44) Thus, Flaubert emphasizes that Emma s is unable to prepare for the ball without directions
implying that she is not able to be a part of the upper class events without guidance. Therefore, her
only connection to the upper class at the ball are her clothes. Also, Flaubert further separates Emma
and Charles from the rest of the guest, by having them arrive in a dog cart (Flaubert, 41). Hence,
Flaubert advocates that no matter how much the middle class aspires to be a part of the upper class
through material items they will never have the means to do so. Flaubert further emphasizes the
separation between Emma and the rest of the guests when he writes: Emma was listening to a
conversation full of words she did not understand (Flaubert, 45). Flaubert is highlighting how out of
place Emma is, yet how aloof Emma remains. She is still listening even though she doesn t understand
what they are saying. Overall, Flaubert utilizes perspective in order to highlight Emma s aspirations to
be a part of the upper class, through her appearance and material items. Ultimately, Flaubert is
critiquing the French middle class in that

Medical Malpractice And Negligence Cases
Introduction Paragraph.. {Deb So, I usually write this last and am still not quite sure how to start my
paper. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome} According to Showalter (2015), medical
malpractice is a form of negligence and negligence is a sub category of torts that fall under civil law
(p. 104). Some cases brought against healthcare providers fall under the category of intentional torts or
breach of contract. However, this paper will focus on negligence cases and how elements of a contract
establish a duty of care. Brodnick, Rinehart Thompson Reynolds (2017) state, Medical malpractice
and negligence are often used interchangeably because negligence is the basis for most (but not all)
medical malpractice lawsuits . As further

Kim Dovey Becoming Places Summary
In Kim Dovey s Becoming Places, she begins by introducing the concepts of place and space. As
Dovey distinguishes between the two concepts, she explains that place tends to connect social and
spatial, whereas space is simply concerned on the physical space itself. In other words, as Dovey
describes, while a space has physical dimensions, intensity gives rise to the potency and primacy of
place (Dovey, pg. 3). Dovey goes on to explain the general use of place in academic discourse and
how it tends to differ from the use of the concept in everyday life. From a philosophical standpoint,
place has emerged from the Greek topos, a concept which stresses the inseparable nature of both place
and being or existence. Moving forward through time,

Actively Meandering Rivers
Tabata et al. (2003) used hydraulic geometry to describe morphodynamics of anastomosing Columbia
river. Jain and Sinha (2004) discussed about causative factors and mechanism of fluvial dynamics of
anabranching Baghmati river system. In their study they have observed that anabranching phenomena
of Baghmati river only occurs along middle river course. The authors suggested that inability to
transport high sediment load due to gentle channel slope and dominance of aggradation processes are
responsible for anabranching of Baghmati river. Luchi et al. (2007) investigated small alpine river to
monitor morphodynamics of channel. Their study reveals that the longitudinal variations in grain size
and slope largely determine the braiding intensity of channel thus it signifluences in channel
morphodynamics. Schimitt et al. (2007) analysed morphodynamics typology of upper Rhine river
basin based on multivariate statistical analysis. Hooke and Yorke, (2010) asserted that the channel
morphological changes are not only associated with the spatio temporal variations in discharge and
channel processes but it largely follows the episodic autogenic feedback mechanism. Sinha and
Ghosh, (2012) studied dynamics of river channel in eastern Ganga plain. Their study indicates that
tectonic tilting, sedimentological readjustments are main causative factors of channel dynamics in the
eastern Ganga plain. Nicholas (2013) overviewed morphodynamics diversity of the large alluvial
rivers of the world. He

Public Service At The Station
With a house in the suburbs and a small family, life on the outside looked as ordinary as it seemed.
However, growing up in the Atlanta Bonnie Lee Kellogg knew, the controversy was in plain sight. Her
first experiences with music occurred as a teenager when she bought her first AM radio. During the
nights, she would listen to various stations across the states where 50,000 watt coverage was available.
Red Jones, the on air disk jockey of her local radio station, announced her as the winner of a contest to
be a disk jockey for the day (Kellogg 2016). Even after the contest had finished and her prize
received, she would continue to work at the station writing PSA s (public service announcements) and
was assigned other errands. She would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was a liberal thinker living amongst conservative minds. Many of the friends that she had were
considered outcasts by Atlanta social standards. One of her friends was expelled from the Peace Corps
because he dared to date a black woman in Africa. She went to high school with the son of a governor
who took out an ax to repel demonstrators and shut down his restaurant rather than serve blacks
(Kellogg 2016). Dating the captain of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, the couple would remain in
safe neighborhoods out of fear of the violence he would face for being out with a white girl (Kellogg
2016). Working in the radio industry, she had a lot of black friends, and it was recalling those
moments in the present how unusual it was to go to the clubs and see artists such as Ray Charles and
the Fifth Dimension performing in person. Growing up listening to black artists, there was a lot of
hostility regarding the racist attitude of the rest of Atlanta versus her own. This is evident in an essay
written by her in 1976 titled Today I m Going to Be Green served as the advertising campaign for
ARCO oil that envisioned her perspective of the world in the year of 2076. In her writing, she
imagined the world where color didn t matter and is optimistic about the direction concerning the
progress going forward (Kellogg 2016). Her support for equal rights was a part of her principles,
witnessing the funeral parade of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from a tall

  • 2. Cause And Effect Of The Spill On the Easter Sunday of March 24, 1989 an oil tanker destined for Long Beach, California was stopped short of its destination when it struck the Prince William Sound s Bligh Reef (PWS). In charge of the ship was Captain Joseph Jeffrey Hazelwood. It was reported that Captain Hazelwood was not at the bridge of the ship during the incident. Furthermore he was accused of alcohol intoxication that might have contributed to the event. This event caused a catastrophic oil spill that resulted in 11 million gallons of crude oil spreading throughout the ocean. At that time, it was considered the largest oil that had ever happened in the United States, hence, it was expected to have devastating effects on the ecology and the different species living ... At the time of the time incident, Hazelwood was reported to be in his stateroom while leaving Third Mate Gregory Cousins in charge. This led to the failure of the ship to return to the shipping lanes and eventually thrashing through the Bligh Reef. Although Captain Hazelwood was accused and charged of alcohol intoxication while on duty, Captain Hazelwood was acquitted of that charge, instead the state charged him with a misdemeanor negligence. This misdemeanor gave Hazelwood a $50,000 fine and 1000 hour of community service. Nearly twenty seven years ago is when the event took place and yet there are still thousands of gallons of oil that pollute the beaches near Prince William Sound. The oil found in the beach still has it adverse effects on the ecosystem near the shore. Although, observations have led for most to believe that natural removal of the oil will take place overtime, a decline in the rate of oil removal have proved them otherwise. From 1989 to 1992, the annual rate for natural oil removal was at 80%, the following years of 1989 to 2001 took a staggering decline at a rate of 22%. After 2001, a mere 4% rate was all that was left to defend the oiled shore of Prince William Sound. Its important economic role in the nation 24 can be easily seen through statistics: In 2013, its GDP amounted to 15 trillion Yuan (1 25 Yuan 0.16 USD), about 26% of the whole nation. Its industrial value added 26 accounted for 42% of the region s GDP, reflecting its high level of industrialization 27 (NBSC, 2014). However, its water resources condition is mismatched with the 28 economic development. The region possesses less than 5% of the nation s water 29 resources (NBSC, 2014). A series of measures 40 have been implemented to rescue NCP from the water crisis. The South to North 41 Water Diversion Project (SNWDP) is one of these measures. The basic conception of 42 the project is to borrow some water from the Yangtze river to the water scarce NCP. 43 The first phase of the project has just been completed in the end of 2014. The project 44 is envisaged to alleviate the water pressure in NCP, provide water for the 45 rehabilitation of the degraded ecosystems, and secure a balanced development for the 46 whole nation (Liu and Zheng, 2002; Berkoff, 2003; Gu, et al., 2012). 47 In contrast to the visible real water transfer, an invisible or hidden water 48 movement also takes place between NCP and the rest of the country as well as the 49 other countries. • 5. Administrative Discretion Essay Administrative Discretion Melissa T. Massey Public Administration 13 December 2011 Administrative Discretion Administrative discretion is a discretionary action is informal and, therefore, unprotected by the safeguards inherent in formal procedure. A public official, for example, has administrative discretion when he or she has the freedom to make a choice among potential courses of action. Abuse of Discretion is the failure to exercise reasonable judgment or discretion. It might provide a Cause of Action for an unconstitutional invasion of rights protected by the due process clause of the Constitution (West s Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2. This is where administrative discretion can go wrong because it can be bias for personal reasons, sexual reasons, anything. My question would be what it the faculty members were having their own personal issues and they could not separate work from home and the allowed there personal issues control the decisions of the students punishments that could probably effect the rest of their lives. Another factor of a disadvantage is the sex linked method the female faculty member may have been an emotional to her decision with the students if they were crying or had a compelling story of how they would act out oppose to the male faculty member who was demanding as far as being a disciplinarian. Then we also have to take into consideration age and race could have played a factor for the faculty in this case. The female had to deal with she was younger so she may have related to the students as well as being African American which did honestly play a part back in that time even current statics dated in 2010 showed that African Americans were only 9% of the teacher population within the whole nation.. In conclusion, administrative discretion has its good points and bad. I do not think that all government power should have the discretion. The French, on the other hand, colonized North America as the Spanish occupied colonies in the south and, thus, all three colonial groups were in constant struggle to oust each other and occupy greater territory in the Americas. • 7. Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver Operating curves) is used to analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami fading channels. Results showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the film High Noon and the short story, The Dangerous Game have many differences like conflicts, there are a lot of similarities like setting and characters. It is amazing how a rogue, western town and a isolated, wild island can be so similar in setting. The setting of these stories are both presented really well in these quotes. In High Noon, it says, But when they read about shooting and killing in the streets, what are they going to think then? (Foreman, 315). • 10. Bargo s Identification Evidence Analysis The first grounds for an appeal, in regards to Arika s testimony, is that identification evidence of Bargo at [20] was wrongly admitted. Except as otherwise provided in the Evidence Act 1995 (NSW) (EA), in order for evidence to be admissible, evidence must be relevant. Evidence will be considered relevant in a proceeding, if that evidence when accepted, could rationally affect the assessment of the probability of the existence of a fact in issue in the proceeding. The facts in issues are the elements of the crime with which the defendant is being charged. Identification evidence from a witness is made up of the witness asserting that the accused is the person the witness heard, saw, or smelt perpetrating the crime. In the present case, Arika s testimony would be classified as identification evidence, as she asserted that Bargo was the person who she had seen rape her. However, if identification evidence has been admitted, the trial judge is required to give an identification warning to the jury, that there is a special need for caution before accepting identification evidence; and of the reasons for that need for caution. • 14. Kolya s Characteristic In City Of Thieves By David Benioff City Of Thieves Author David Benioff of the suspenseful novel, City of Thieves, does a remarkable job at developing the witty, humorous, brave, and optimistic character known as Kolya. Kolya begins this novel as an unlikable and unpleasant character but gradually redeems himself by displaying more admirable traits. Throughout this intriguing novel, despite his arrogance and frequent reckless behavior, Kolya has proven to be a very likeable and sympathetic character. He never fails to give Lev encouragement in hope of lifting his spirits. You didn t want to go up to that apartment. I was the country fool who insisted on it. So you don t owe me an apology. And i don t think you re a coward. Anyone with a spoonful of sanity would have run. (Benioff 65). This is a perfect example of Kolya giving Lev encouragement and sympathizing with the fact that Lev felt bad for leaving Kolya in the apartment to fight the Giant alone. I find it thoughtful that Kolya didn t want Lev to feel down or bad about himself so he proceeded to tell Lev that anyone with common sense would have ran and even though he fled, it doesn t reflect on his strength and bravery. While this is just one example of Kolyas compassion, his sympathy is shown in more ways than just one. He opened his eyes, his pale blue cossack eyes, and smiles at me. We both knew he was going to die. He trembled lying on the back seat beneath his great coat, his teeth very white against his blue lips. I have always believed that smile was a gift for me. Kolya had no faith in the divine or the afterlife; he didn t think he was going to a better place, or any place at all. No angels waited to collect him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rewarding Volunteers Running Head: Rewarding Volunteers Rewarding Volunteers Rewarding Volunteers Understaffing is one of the emerging and escalating grave issues in the modern world of today, because of the growing of fierce competition in every facet of life. Understaffing for a shorter span of time within the organization does not result in creation of long term issues. However, if this understaffing is extended for a longer period and becomes permanent, the organization is likely to experience catastrophic impacts, as it creates significant problems for both the individual and the organization (Chartrand, 2004). Cummings defies grammatical norms which furthers his poem s message of American life. He represents social norms as he says someones married their everyones (Cummings 1940). • 22. The California Osteoporosis Prevention And Education Act Every year, about one third of everyone over the age of 65 falls, and do not report it to their doctors. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries in older people (Falls Among Older Adults). Falls become more common as people age because their bones become more brittle and their muscle mass decreases. In society today, the baby boomers are aging, which means falls will continue to increase in frequency. When a person falls, it doesn t just affect the victim; it affects everyone. In 2012, approximately $30 billion went towards medical costs that were associated with falls (Falls Among Older Adults). In today s society many have insecurities including, and not limited to, the way they look and the way their actions will be viewed by others. Gabriel Conroy from The Dead is insecure in more ways than one. In The Dead Gabriel s insecurity about whether or not he should include a quotation from Browning can be found when he thinks He would only make himself ridiculous (p.g.10 ) showing he is very insecure about what his peers will think of him for including the quotation. Gabriel can be shown to also have insecurities about his feelings No, it was not the moment yet. (pg. 65), showing him in the light of not being able to show or tell his feelings toward Gretta. Insecurity not only knocked on Gabriel s door, but it also has knocked on the door of J. Alfred Prufrock. In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Prufrock is being insecure about the way he looks. This can be seen when it says How his hair is growing thin! (line 41), and But how his arms and legs are thin! (line 44), showing Prufrock s worry of what the women in the room will think and say about him. Both Gabriel and Prufrock are similar in that they are very insecure. Gabriel from the dead finds himself in uncomfortable situations, most of them being when he is around women. In The Dead Gabriel finds himself in an uncomfortable situation with Lucy when he says, I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days... (p.g. 8), which Lucy replies, The men that is now is only all palaver and what they can get out of you. (p.g. 8), at this reply Gabriel starts to feel uncomfortable. • 25. Ancient People And Agriculture Ancient people set a building block that we today still build upon. There are many ways ancient people have done this, such as developing spoken language and inventing farming/agriculture. I think that farming and agriculture had the biggest impact of all on society, from ancient to modern times, because it helped people have a permanent home, develop more specialized jobs, and create new technologies. Before I start talking about farming and agriculture, I will explain a little about the history of it. Farming and agriculture began during the Neolithic Era, or the New Stone Age, about 10,000 years ago, first in Southwest Asia. The reason farming and agriculture was now possible was because the Ice Ages ended. The Ice Ages were when there were long periods of freezing weather. During this time, the whole ground would be covered in ice, and the sea levels were very low. The water was so low that strips of land, called land bridges, let people cross rivers, seas, and maybe even oceans. Then, a warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of their new permanent homes, this also allowed them to develop new things, such as pottery, weaving, and even one of the most important tools, the wheel. Farming and agriculture also gave people more freedom, because now, since there is a reliable source of food, farms, there was much more free time that they could spend on hobbies. The food surplus also freed people to specialize in jobs. People who are talented at something, could choose that job, so they could be as productive to the community as possible. The Analytical Effectiveness Of The Assessment As I reflect about the various assessments I utilized for my project, I have mixed feelings about the evaluative effectiveness of the assessments. When I began examine Jen s formal assessments results (such as, Running Records, BY and EY Benchmarks, Sound Identification/Sigh Word Inventory forms), I believed the assessments would accurately demonstrate a positive progress Jen had made during the course of the year. What I discovered was both an intended and unintended consequence of assessment use. On the one hand, I found the assessments to be useful tools to gauge student literacy abilities. On the other hand, I believe that the focus on assessment led to the teacher developing a deficit mindset with Jen. Often times Jen s teacher narrowly would focus on Jen s inability to be at grade level or lack of drastic improvement. In fact, the only thought Jen s teacher had was on the fact that Jen did not meet the expected reading level for the end of the year for K 2. I believe if teachers rely too much on assessment scores limits their ability to understand external factors or barriers that influence a child s literacy. McKenna and Picard (2007) discuss the importance for teachers to view students word miscue analysis beyond the checks on paper and formulas. McKenna and Picard caution teachers to avoid focusing on the assessment scores because they believe children reading strategies to decode words or understand a word meaning does not always mean reading proficiency. ... Edmund Burke On The Sublime Analysis Many people around the world get scared but we never stop and ask ourselves what is it that causes us to be scared or to have fear over something or someone ? . Most of this has to do with our brain chemistry since our brain is lightning fast at processing threat . There are people out there that enjoy being scared because they see it as entertainment and accomplishment of facing their fears and leaves them with a sense of confidence after it s over. Just the same way there s people that enjoy being frightened there are other people that don t enjoy the feeling of being scared. From experience, most people might think it s horrible to overreact and get scared but really all of us get scared at some point. It all comes naturally even when we sleep we have nightmares which scare the living hell out of us. Have you ever catched yourself being drawn to something that looks creepy and can t stop staring at it for some reason ? We all have at some point and it gives you the chills that runs down your spine making your hairs at the back of your neck stand up. When staring at these fearful objects, a part of you wants to turn away and leave but the other part of you wants to keep looking at it because it s so scary but yet amazing. Disability Simulation Paper On Disability Disability Awareness Simulation Paper Disability simulation is the process where an able bodied individual assumes a position of the person with disability to try and understand what really happens in the life of a person with disability. It is offers experience that allows one to learn more about people living with disability and hopefully treat them better; have a change of perception. It gives first hand experience on how life of person with disability really is. A day alternating as a person on the wheelchair and as assistant had so much to offer as will be illustrated below. First was to use public transportation. My partner and I chose to ride the bus to catch a glimpse of what using a wheelchair in the bus would mean. I was the assistant in this case. At first I thought it would be an easy time working as an assistant. I expected to be given priority and special treatment as I had a person on the wheelchair with me; but no. Boarding the bus was a bit difficult since the bus did not have enough space to accommodate the wheelchair. We needed help to get in as the floor of the bus was higher than the ground we stood on. In the bus, the wheelchair had to be folded while in the bus since the space to put it was limited. This was an eye opener for us to advocate for public transportation especially the bus to be modified to accommodate persons with physical disability using a wheelchair. A lift or a ramp could be provided for easy boarding of the bus. Additional space ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lipman Blumen s definition introduces this explicitly erotic sexual interaction to signify homoeroticism. Homoeroticism is erotic emotions centred on a person of the same sex (Flood, 307). Subversion of Class and Gender Roles in Jane Austen s Persuasion In Jane Austen s Persuasion, Mrs. Croft makes but few appearances and delivers little dialogue. Nevertheless, Austen gives her significant narrative and thematic importance. Mrs. Croft provides a foil for several of the Elliots, while developing a commonality with the frequently ostracized Anne. This bond between Mrs. Croft and Austen s heroine valorizes Mrs. Croft s radical views concerning feminism and marriage. Furthermore, to describe her weather beaten complexion (34), Anne gently describes how Mrs. Croft [seems] to have lived some years longer in the world than her real eight and thirty (35). Major periodic trends include: Electronegativity Ionization energy Electron affinity Atomic radius Melting point Metallic character Periodic trends, arising from the arrangement of the periodic table, provide chemists and scientists with a helpful tool to quickly predict an element s properties. These trends exist because of the similar atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or periods, and because of the periodic nature of the elements. On the left hand side of the periodic table the elements have a half full valance shell, so meaning that it is a higher energy level to gain electrons to fill that valance shell compared to less energy to lose the electrons to complete the valance shell. Element on the left side usually lose electrons to form a bond. Therefor elements on the right side are more energy efficient in gaining a set of electrons to fill the valance shell. In a periodic table from left to right across a period, electronegativity increases. If the valance shell is less than half full the atom loses electrons to balance out and the opposite if the atom has a valance shell over half full. In a group from top to bottom electronegativity decreases. There is an important exception noble gases, lanthanides, and actinides do not have electronegativity principles, this is because they have a full valance shell so they do not usually attract electrons. And as for transition metals, even though they have electronegativity values, they are little different going up and down a group and going across a period. This is because of the transition metals, metallic properties which affect their ability to attract electrons. Critical Analysis Of Madame Bovary Allison Witt September 28, 2017 Literature Core Professor O Har A Fantasy World In Madame Bovary, Gustave Flaubert shapes Emma, the protagonist, into a woman who deceives herself, through romantic novels, into believing her life is better than it actually is. Emma like most things in her life romanticized what marriage would do for her. At the start of her marriage to Charles, she believed marriage would be the means at which she transitioned from a farm girl to a wealthy woman. She did her hair according to the directions of the hairdresser, and put on the barege dress (Flaubert, 42 44) Thus, Flaubert emphasizes that Emma s is unable to prepare for the ball without directions implying that she is not able to be a part of the upper class events without guidance. Therefore, her only connection to the upper class at the ball are her clothes. Also, Flaubert further separates Emma and Charles from the rest of the guest, by having them arrive in a dog cart (Flaubert, 41). Hence, Flaubert advocates that no matter how much the middle class aspires to be a part of the upper class through material items they will never have the means to do so. Flaubert further emphasizes the separation between Emma and the rest of the guests when he writes: Emma was listening to a conversation full of words she did not understand (Flaubert, 45). Flaubert is highlighting how out of place Emma is, yet how aloof Emma remains. She is still listening even though she doesn t understand what they are saying. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome} According to Showalter (2015), medical malpractice is a form of negligence and negligence is a sub category of torts that fall under civil law (p. 104). Some cases brought against healthcare providers fall under the category of intentional torts or breach of contract. However, this paper will focus on negligence cases and how elements of a contract establish a duty of care. Brodnick, Rinehart Thompson Reynolds (2017) state, Medical malpractice and negligence are often used interchangeably because negligence is the basis for most (but not all) medical malpractice lawsuits . • 44. Kim Dovey Becoming Places Summary In Kim Dovey s Becoming Places, she begins by introducing the concepts of place and space. As Dovey distinguishes between the two concepts, she explains that place tends to connect social and spatial, whereas space is simply concerned on the physical space itself. In other words, as Dovey describes, while a space has physical dimensions, intensity gives rise to the potency and primacy of place (Dovey, pg. 3). Dovey goes on to explain the general use of place in academic discourse and how it tends to differ from the use of the concept in everyday life. From a philosophical standpoint, place has emerged from the Greek topos, a concept which stresses the inseparable nature of both place and being or existence. Moving forward through time, ... • 45. Actively Meandering Rivers Tabata et al. (2003) used hydraulic geometry to describe morphodynamics of anastomosing Columbia river. Jain and Sinha (2004) discussed about causative factors and mechanism of fluvial dynamics of anabranching Baghmati river system. In their study they have observed that anabranching phenomena of Baghmati river only occurs along middle river course. The authors suggested that inability to transport high sediment load due to gentle channel slope and dominance of aggradation processes are responsible for anabranching of Baghmati river. Luchi et al. (2007) investigated small alpine river to monitor morphodynamics of channel. Their study reveals that the longitudinal variations in grain size and slope largely determine the braiding intensity of channel thus it signifluences in channel morphodynamics. Schimitt et al. (2007) analysed morphodynamics typology of upper Rhine river basin based on multivariate statistical analysis. Hooke and Yorke, (2010) asserted that the channel morphological changes are not only associated with the spatio temporal variations in discharge and channel processes but it largely follows the episodic autogenic feedback mechanism. Sinha and Ghosh, (2012) studied dynamics of river channel in eastern Ganga plain. Their study indicates that tectonic tilting, sedimentological readjustments are main causative factors of channel dynamics in the eastern Ganga plain. Nicholas (2013) overviewed morphodynamics diversity of the large alluvial rivers of the world. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Public Service At The Station With a house in the suburbs and a small family, life on the outside looked as ordinary as it seemed. However, growing up in the Atlanta Bonnie Lee Kellogg knew, the controversy was in plain sight. Her first experiences with music occurred as a teenager when she bought her first AM radio. During the nights, she would listen to various stations across the states where 50,000 watt coverage was available. Red Jones, the on air disk jockey of her local radio station, announced her as the winner of a contest to be a disk jockey for the day (Kellogg 2016). Even after the contest had finished and her prize received, she would continue to work at the station writing PSA s (public service announcements) and was assigned other errands. She would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was a liberal thinker living amongst conservative minds. Many of the friends that she had were considered outcasts by Atlanta social standards. One of her friends was expelled from the Peace Corps because he dared to date a black woman in Africa. She went to high school with the son of a governor who took out an ax to repel demonstrators and shut down his restaurant rather than serve blacks (Kellogg 2016). Dating the captain of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, the couple would remain in safe neighborhoods out of fear of the violence he would face for being out with a white girl (Kellogg 2016). Working in the radio industry, she had a lot of black friends, and it was recalling those moments in the present how unusual it was to go to the clubs and see artists such as Ray Charles and the Fifth Dimension performing in person. Growing up listening to black artists, there was a lot of hostility regarding the racist attitude of the rest of Atlanta versus her own. This is evident in an essay written by her in 1976 titled Today I m Going to Be Green served as the advertising campaign for ARCO oil that envisioned her perspective of the world in the year of 2076. In her writing, she imagined the world where color didn t matter and is optimistic about the direction concerning the progress going forward (Kellogg 2016).
