The poison tree was a story about a straight A, naГЇve and dull college girl who tried to go out of
her comfort zone. Karen is always the good girl until she became college. She met Biba who is
very opposite to her. Biba is a go with the flow kind of girl. Karen decided to go with Biba and live
with her and his brother Rex who became the loveinterest of Karen. Drugs, liquor, cigarette and
sex flowed when Karen and Rex started their relationship. Karen thought that she already found the

There are instances that you will find freedom and happiness on the things that you taught that
will be good for you but will only destroy you. It will never always be about fantasies and happy
endings nor easy things and easy love. There is no such thing as easy when it comes to love. It
taught me how true love is always dependent to sacrificing things whether its big or small
sacrifice. Say for example, when you truly love a person you will always try to make them
happy even if you re not, you will always try to understand them even if you re already having a
hard time, you will always make time for them even if you re loaded with bunch of works just to
make them feel important, you will always be willing to listen to them even if you re hurting,
you will always choose what s best for them even if it s hard for you. That simple things are
already called sacrifice. Choosing what s best for them over what s best for you. The only tricky
thing about discovering outside your comfort zone is choosing the best things and people that is

Ovid s Metamorphoses Sexuality
When one becomes familiar with mythology through Ovid s Metamorphoses, a collection of
preexisting myths, strung together with the unifying theme of metamorphosis and divine
intervention, a new language of allusions is discovered. This is used by Christopher Marlowe to
better express the themes of beauty and sexuality through an Ovidian aesthetic in his epyllion, Hero
and Leander. Marlowe writes of two naГЇve lovers, equal in beauty, separated by the Hellespont,
Leander in Abydos and Hero in Sestos. During the festival of Venus and Adonis in Sestos, Leander
falls in love with Venus nun, Hero, who vowed chastity to the goddess. Despite this, Leander
continues to court her with passionate and persuasive language. Hero overcome by her own feelings,

Throughout the story, Hero has struggled with her love for Leander and dedication to Venus. In
her first amorous meeting with Leander He asked, she gave and nothing was denied; ... / And what
he did, she willingly requited (509, 512). This encounter does not seem to go further than
embracing and sweet kisses, so Hero was able to both love Leander and respect her vow. Leander,
however, seems to be overwhelmed with his newly discovered sexual desire and eager to act on it.
When he does after reaching Hero s tower, she tries to hide but is at his mercy. The girl who before
was enamored with Love s holy fire, with words, with sighs and tears / Which like sweet music
entered Hero s ears (193 194) is now left to believe: Love is not full of pity, as men say, / But deaf
and cruel, where he means to prey (771 772). Leander s words, which once pleased Hero, spoke
over and dismissed Hero s hesitance; Leander s hands, she lovingly held, are now said to resemble a

The Tragedy And Horror Of The Joplin Tornado
It is my belief that the attachment of positive interpretations to the tragedy and horror of the Joplin
tornado, and the repetition of such themes through continuous narration, directly affected
community ethos. This, in turn, helped further select the features of the collective narrative shared
with the nation through national news. The national attention to Joplin, spurred those wanting to
help in the wake of such devastation and those in admiration of the community s own resilience to
volunteer time and resources to the recovery effort. Cast as an all American city in the Heartland of
the nation, the positive ethos and determination demonstrated by Joplin citizens transformed the
community s identity from a virtually unknown place in Missouri to a symbol of the nation, a
transformation further encouraged through the wording of public statements by President Obama
and Governor Nixon as well as featuring Joplin on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and other
television shows. To the nation, Joplin became a place amid an undifferentiated region, except to
locals, known as fly over states. Theoretical Implications Disasters are totalizing events, impacting
and influencing every aspect of a community when they occur. As the anthropology of disaster
grows, both in the number of publications and the number of researchers, the scope of topics related
to disasters will also grow. Economic implications, vulnerable populations, and human ecology

Taste And Vision By Ackerman
Ackerman s writing on taste and vision is a very entertaining essay. The writing was easy to
follow and was written on an interesting topic, which everyone can relate to. The most
entertaining and informative parts were food and vision. I learned a great deal in that section
and was entertaining to learn how food and vision are so closely related. For example all the
different types of foods that are considered aphrodisiacs. Another entertaining section was the
part about food and its history. How the Egyptians thought very highly of the onion and swore
upon it as we do the bible. Overall this was a good essay it flowed nicely and was really easy to
follow along. The following are the topics I chose to discuss concerning tasteand vision

Examples Of Paul s Departure From The Hebrew Scriptures
monly seen as a direct continuation of the Hebrew Scriptures. However, once it is closely
analyzed, the New Testament differences can be clearly seen, and these concrete discrepancies
are conveniently laid out in the Pauline letters, especially in Romans. Three of the major
examples of Paul s departure from the Hebrew Scriptures are the difference of what Messiah
means, the view of the irreparable alienation between man and God, and what people can do to
heal the disconnect. To start, Paul reinterprets what it means to be a Messiah. For the Hebrew
Scriptures, Messiahs were, as Harris calls them, warrior kings (Harris 309). They were political
agents that tried and succeeded to reestablish the Davidic Monarchy, and essentially bring Israel...

After their confession, God essentially curses them: ...pains in childbearing..., through painful
toil you will eat food... (Gen. 8: 16 17). For Jews, this occurrence is an example of humanity s
imperfection and foolishness. Together, Israel must learn from this mistake and continue in their
duty to carry out God s justice to eventually become as holy as God. Paul sees this instance very
differently. He introduces the idea of original sin where Adam and Eve s transgression destroyed
the connection between God and man. Because of this alienation, man is incapable of doing
good. Man has fallen, and there is nothing he can do. Humanity is perpetually mired in the sin of
idolatry, and, because Adam is the father and Eve is the mother of all of humanity, every living
person is affected by this disconnect. Moreover, god is wrathful because of the unjustifiable
...wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness... (Romans 1: 18). This was
Jesus mission, to die an atoning death, resurrect, and fix the irreparable damage from original sin,
which therefore gives man new life. But there is still one more thing required of

Analysis Of The Book The Chronicles Of Narnia
Clive Staples Lewis, a British novelist, poet, academic, and Christian apologist managed to
transcend cultural boundaries with his fictional literary book series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
The book series is regarded as a classic of children s literature and is Lewis s best known work,
having sold over 100 million copies in 47 languages. The books were written around 1950 and
have been adapted through several mediums, including film. In particular, the film creation of the
first of the seven books, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, made in 2005, presents a
problematic dynamic of gender, genre, and religion. The Chronicles of Narniabook series is meant
to portray the Christian morality throughout the book series. Therefore, whatever is presented
about gender holds merit regarding how the Christian worldview sees gender. Within The Lion,
The Witch, and The Wardrobe, a particular scene with a man named Father Christmas provides a
clear view as to how gender is seen in the series. In this scene, Father Christmas meets the four
main characters of the film, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy who are all siblings. Before the
children engage in the beginning of a nasty war, Father Christmas provides exclusively gender
specific gifts to the children. The oldest boy, Peter, receives a sword while his slightly younger
sister Susan, receives a horn to simply, call for help, and a bow and arrow that is not meant to be
used in battle. The second boy Edmund also receives a

Queen Anne s Revenge Essay
Swoosh! Splash! Swish! A pirate ship sails through the salty ocean. Three pirate ships sail across
the same deep glimmering marine. They all meet around the cove, but they all get ready for rivalry.
One ship starts dismissing their cannons at their enemies. Just then, the other two ships began to

Pirates used ships to get to their destination, and to be ready for their enemies. First of all, the

Virginia Vs Massachusetts Bay Colony Essay
After Spanish colonization of the Americas during the late 15th and 16th centuries, many other
European nations sought to expand their presence to the New World. The British were at the
forefront of this expansion, and soon occupied most of the eastern coast of the United States, which
was split into three regions: New England, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies. These
areas were founded upon different principles and ideologies, evident in the settlements of Virginia
and MassachusettsBay. Although the two were similar in some ways, their economic prospects and
religious perspectives caused them to differ greatly. Jamestown was the first permanent English
settlement founded 1607 in the marshy lands of present day Virginia. This... Show more content on

However, as both colonies continued to flourish, so did the number of their inhabitants. Virginia
was centered around the tobacco industry and because Massachusetts, as well as many other New
England colonies, was on the coast, it was a bustling sea port. There was competition for work,
however, and Boston was the worst because it was such a big port city, where the merchant system
dominated. Virginia, as mentioned before, had a demand for labor, hence a huge boom in the slavery
system. Both colonies also had rocky beginnings with the Natives in the surrounding areas. Initially,
in both settlements, they were met with hostility because of the foreign peoples on their lands. The
Jamestown settlers had virtually no relationship with them, but with the help of John Smith, and the
realization that the English weren t going to leave, they began to help. When the Puritans landed in
Massachusetts, they believed that the English had the right to all lands in the New World, and that
the Natives were going to have to vacate. However, trade helped to soften the edges of impending
conflict between the two groups, and the colonists were able to trade for valuable furs to send back
to England. Despite being on relatively good terms, there were still wars between the settlers and
the Native Americans. This happened throughout all the colonies, not just Virginia and

The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs....
The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson reveals that the ghastly
depiction of the Indian religion (or what Rowlandson perceives as a lack of religion) in the
narrative is directly related to the ideologies of her Puritan upbringing. Furthermore, Rowlandson s
experiences in captivity and encounter with the new, or Other religionof the Indians cause her
rethink, and question her past; her experiences do not however cause her to redirect her life or
change her ideals in any way. The function of religion plays a significant role in the narrative,
especially the dissimilarities between the narrator s religious beliefs and the Other religion of her
captors. More specifically the Puritanideology of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear that Mary Rowlandson s encounter with the Other causes her to doubt her past,
specifically her devotion to God. At the end of the narrative Rowlandson confirms this claim
with the remark: When I lived in prosperity; having the comforts of this World about me, my
Relations by me, and my heart cheerful: and taking little care for any thing; and yet seeing many
(whom I preferred before myself) under many trials and afflictions, in sickness, weakness,
poverty, losses, crosses, and cares of the Worlds, I should be sometimes jealous least I should
have my portion in this lifeВ…but now I see the Lord had his time to scourge and chasten me
(50). The evidence from the narrative in many ways could characterize this work as a text in which
the narrator (Mary Rowlandson) realizes her mistakes in the past and redirects her life accordingly.
This is not true in the case of Rowlandson, to be more specific her experiences and interaction with
the Indians do not challenge her Puritan ideologies, but rather confirms and strengthens them.
When the narrator returns to her former lifestyle she in no way demonstrates any new knowledge
from her experience, but rather returns home with the same degree of ignorance that she had before
her captivity. Rowlandson also contradicts herself in

Capitalism And The Industrial Revolution
According to Thomas L. Friedman, author of The World is Flat, the concept of globalization
happened in three eras. The first era occurred 1492 until 1800 with the age of exploration and
discovery. Globalization 2.0 followed, lasting 1800 2000. It was characterized by the Industrial
Revolution. The third era of globalizationbegan in the year 2000, and occurs to this day (Friedman,
year, p.8). But the real question is, what sparked the rise of globalization? The term is modern, but
the concept is not. Capitalismand the Industrial Revolutionplayed a huge part in the development of
industrial cities and globalization. The need of goods that cannot be produced everywhere sparked
trade and exploration, and with that came capitalism and the rise of technology as well. Surplus of
products led to a population growth, and technological advances led to trade. The world was being
utilized for economic growth. With globalization 2.0 came the industrial revolution, and a huge
economic time for the United States. More trade and technological advancements and inventions
helped people and products prosper. Transportation in the form of trains and steam engines grew the
economy and industrial cities rapidly. Multinational corporations led to new immigrants, and thus
diversifying populations. Unemployment rates decreased with the demand of jobs that needed to
be filled. Everything could be accomplished faster than ever before. The population of the United
States doubled and even

Employment growth will be fastest in retail optical stores and out patient clinics. Employment of
optometrists would grow more rapidly were it not for anticipated productivity gains that will allow
each optometrist to see more patients. These gains will result from greater use of optometry
assistants and other support personnel, and the introduction of new equipment and procedures. New
surgical procedures using lasers are available that can correct some vision problems, but they
remain expensive. In addition to growth, the need to re lace optometrists who leave the occupation
will create employment opportunities. Relatively few opportunities from this source are expected,
however, because most optometrists continue to practice until they retire; few transfer to other
occupations.
Optometrists held about 38,000 jobs in 1998. The number of jobs is greater than the number of
practicing optometrists because some optometrists hold two or more jobs. For example, an
optometrist may have a private practice, but also work in another practice, clinic, or vision care
center. According to the American Optometric Association, about two thirds of practicing
optometrists are in private practice. Although many optometrists practice alone, a growing number
are in a partnership or group practice. Some optometrists work as salaried employees of other

The Iliad By Ancient Greek Poet Homer Essay
The Iliad, written by ancient Greek poet Homer, chronicles the battle and events during the final
weeks of The Trojan War, an armed conflict between the Achaeans army and the defenders of Troy.
It further recounts the story of the wrath of Achilles, the greatest warrior in the Greek army, against
King Agamemnon who unfairly appropriates Briseis, the lovely maiden belonging to Achillesafter
relinquishing his own maiden, Chryseis, in order to end the plague sweeping the Greek armies.
Infuriated by Agamemnon s demands, the dishonored and humiliated Achilles initially withdraws
from the king s army and enlists the service of Zeus, king of all gods, to bring upon the Achaean
army a devastating loss. He later reconciles with Agamemnon and joins the Greek army to avenge
his friend, Patroclus death, who was killed by Hector, the mightiest warrior in the Trojan army. As
Achilles renters the battle, he experiences aristeias his finest, most glorious moments during the
conflict as he is able to rout the Trojan army, mercilessly slaughtering them one by one, and
dragging the mutilated body of Hector after brutally murdering him. It is only through these
fearless, life threatening actions does Achilles achieve everlasting glory, honor and fame, bestowed
to him by his community. In Homer s Iliad, Achilles aristeia supersedes the aristeias of other
characters as the warrior is able to display unsurpassed skill and prowess in battle, is motivated to

However, analysts expect growing consumer incomes, the late 2012 release of the Wii U and the
2013 release of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to lead to a 4.3% revenue growth in 2014.
Consumers spent $1.1 billion on new physical games and consoles at U.S. retailers during the
five week period from Aug. 31 to Oct. 4, 2014, according to industry tracking firm The NPD
Group. That is up 2 percent from $1.08 billion over a similar period in 2013. The year long
growth of new console sales is making up for lackluster video game sales. Future growth
expectations for the Video Games industry have been significantly moderated, as the picture of
the market for gaming on mobile platforms becomes clearer. Since mobile games are sold at
much lower prices compared to traditional console and PC games, their rise may foretell a
slowdown of the video game market in the United States. While the recent launch of the next
generation video game consoles is expected to rekindle interest in the more expensive console
gaming market, the rise of low cost, low margin mobile gaming market may weigh on the overall
gaming market. Consequently, this is expected to pull revenue downward as consumers pay less
per hour for gaming entertainment. Revenue is expected to reach $47.4 billion in 2019 as a result
of the expanding population and an increased percentage of Americans

The Physical Effects And Social Effects Of HIV And AIDS
HIV and AIDS has not only physical effects on the body, but social effects as well. People
infected HIV and AIDs have different experiences of the world, compared to others infected by
other illnesses. People living with HIV or AIDs have different social lives due to the stigma
attached to these diseases, which in turn affects their mental health. People infected with HIV/AIDs
are at higher risk of mental disorders, because of the stigma attached, as well as social isolation.
HIV and AIDS are one of the leading causes of illness related stigma toward the homosexual

founder of Microsoft once said Unlike some students, I loved college. However, I felt the
window of opportunity to start a software company might not open again . It is a prime example
of self awareness and self management that guide or facilitate reaching goals as well as the
initiative of readiness to act on opportunities. Because of his self awareness of his abilities and the
opportunity, he later becomes a richest man on earth.
The other competency of the Emotional Intelligence is the Social Competencies. Social

Loewen The Land Of Opportunity Summary
Loewen first main point is some high school history textbooks portray labor history and unions as
things of the past. The next point he makes is that some high school history textbooks neglect
examination of social class and depicts as a middle class nation full of opportunities for class
mobility despite the drop of middle class people and the widening gap between classes. Another
main point Loewen focuses on is that social class effects sectors of a person s life like their health,
environment, education, and financial opportunities. To appeal to his points, he primarily uses
ethos and pathos when he is trying to appeal to his audience. For instance, Loewen uses ethos to
express his knowledge about the subject by sharing his research results about textbooks and
providing other peoples studies to fortify his points about social class s effect on people. Loewen
utilizes pathos by appealing to his readers emotions by choosing language that expresses his
displeasure of students having a limited understanding of the classes by using words like half
formed and naГЇve. Also, he uses pathos to appeal to his readers emotions as he uses examples for
the ways the class system effects people like when he uses the two mothers to demonstrate the
privilege one mother has over the other, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loewen states They have no understanding of the ways that opportunity is not equal in America
and no notion that social structure pushes people around, influencing the ideas they hold and lives

social classes in history textbooks and expounding how social class affects people from the womb

Are Diesels Better Than Gasoline Engines
Are diesels better than gasoline engines? A significant segment of the consumer market thinks so,
especially in Europe where such engines compose nearly half the vehicles purchased. In the US,
diesels have had difficulty gaining acceptance, with heavy duty pickup trucks and German luxury
cars offering them. But with Audi currently snagged in the Volkswagen diesel scandal mess, a
negative light has been cast on these engines, with some insisting that they re far dirtier than what
manufacturers say they are. Fortunately, not all manufacturers are being dissuaded by such
negativity. Chevrolet now supplies a turbo diesel for its popular midsize pickup trucks, Nissan

Bipolar Disorder And Its Effects On The Lives Of Patients...
When freshman (?) at Frederick Area High School in Frederick, South Dakota, was asked to
describe what bipolar disorder is, he said that it refers to people that change personalities fast.
However, this is only a common misconception. Though the word bipolar is often used in
conversations to describe a person that has mood swings, bipolar disorder actually refers to a
serious mental illness. According to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, about 2.6
percent of American adults suffer from a form of bipolar disorder, and about one in five people
with bipolar disorder commits suicide. Despite the impact that bipolar disorder has on the lives
of patients and families alike, it is treated casually by many people across the United States.
Even though many treat it flippantly, bipolar disorder is a serious mental ailment, and the public
needs to have a greater understanding of it. There is a dark stigma surrounding mental illness in
general, and bipolar disorder is no exception. According to the Mental Health Commission of
Western Australia, a stigma is a mark of disgrace that sets someone apart. Bipolar disorder is
incredibly misunderstood by society at large, which leads to this stigma, prejudice, and
discrimination. In everyday conversation, the word bipolar is frequently used to describe how
someone is feeling at that moment. If a person is sad one moment and becomes happy soon after,
their mood swing is labelled as bipolar. When students and faculty at a

Differences And Classification Of Depalma And Cautilli
Classification
DePalma and Cautilli first emphasized the difference between fractures with and without
dislocation of the joint surfaces. Neer subsequently modified and emphasized this fracture type in
his classic four part classification scheme.
Codman in 1934 was the first to observe that there were four major fracture fragments when a
proximal humerus fracture occurred, and that these occurred in varying combinations depending on
the mechanism of injury . These fragments were the articular head, the greater and lesser
tuberosities, and the humeral shaft.1,2,122
Kocher s classification
He classified proximal humerus fractures based on anatomical level of fracture 1. Supratubercular
2. Pertubercular 3. Infratubercular 4. Subtubercular
Disadvantage of this system is that it doesn t allow for multiple fracture at different level , nor does
it differentiate displaced from undisplaced fractures , which require different management .

Round Trip To America Summary
In Round Trip to America: The Immigrants Return to Europe 1880 1930, Mark Wyman argues that
many new immigrants that migrated to America from 1880 1930 never intended to make America
a permanent residence and many of them returned home to their native countries. He claims that
this phenomena is important to the history of American Immigrationand is important to the histories
of the home land in which the immigrants returned to. In his book, Wyman explores some key
ideas such as the reason immigrants decided to voyage to a new land, across the ocean, to what
was known as the land of milk and honey only to return to their small, and a lot of the time rural
village. He also discusses American labor movement and what impact that had on... Show more

For some they returned having never reached this goal, for others they ended up staying in
America, but for many of these immigrants they did reach their goal and after doing so, returned

Temporary migration had been going on before this time, but it wasn t until the invention of the
steam engine that migrant workers began to voyage across the seas. Many of these poor
European s that migrated to the United States did so to make money to go back home and buy
land. Not all of them had this goal, some saved money to start up or buy a business. Whether they
were going back to buy land or expand land they already had, or they were going to use the money
to start a business these remigrants all had one thing in common. Wyman writes of the Hungarian
emigrant s experiences; they would soon return with the money made overseas to make a better life
for themselves in the environment they were attached to, the place where they wanted to live. (p.

MacBeth was given a prophecy to become a king by three witches. In order for MacBeth to be

Objections to Charles Peirce s Article, A Neglected...
Objections to Charles Peirce s Article, A Neglected Argument for the Reality of God
ABSTRACT: Charles S. Peirce sketches a nest of three arguments for the Reality of God in his
article A Neglected Argument for the Reality of God. I provide careful analysis and explication of
Peirce s argument, along with consideration of some objections. I argue that (1) there are significant
differences between Peirce s neglected argument and the traditional arguments for God s existence;
(2) Peirce s analysis of the neglected argument into three arguments is misleading; (3) there are two
distinct levels of argument that Peirce does not recognize; and (4) it is doubtful whether the
argument meets all the criteria set by Peirce himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Peirce distinguishes between an argument and argumentation. An argument is any process of
thought reasonably tending to produce a definite belief while argumentation refers to an argument
that proceeds upon definitely formulated premisses (6.456). We must note that Peirce s Neglected
Argument (hereafter referred to as NA) is an argument, but not argumentation.
Second, we must distinguish between reality and existence. Reality is a broader term that
encompasses what exists but is not synonymous with it. (3) For something to be real it must have
properties sufficient to identify it whether anyone attributes those properties to it or not. The
existent, strictly speaking, is what interacts with things in a spatio temporal environment (6.454).
Since God is not another spatio temporal object, it amounts to fetishism, Peirce remarks, to say that
God exists (6.495). Hence his argument, strictly speaking, is not an argument for God s existence,
but for God s reality.
If we compare Peirce s NA with the traditional arguments for God s existence that philosophers
know and love to criticize, we are immediately struck with a major difference. Peirce s argument is
not argumentation, but the traditional arguments (ontological, cosmological, teleological) are
argumentation. Peirce is not offering yet another bit of argumentation that concludes with a
proposition of metaphysical theology about the existence or reality of some being

An Article From American Pregnancy
A new phenomenon, placentophagy, has taken the United States by storm. Placentophagy is the
concept of consuming the placenta after giving birth to a child in order to receive specific health
benefits. Controversy has ensued over whether or not the placenta is actually beneficial to mothers.
The pro argument states that placentophagy is in fact advantageous. An article from American
Pregnancy, entitled Placenta Encapsulation explains that the basis of placentophagy relies heavily
on anecdotes from mothers who have tried out the procedure and supported the practice. Another
article from the website Placenta Benefits explains under their health and wellness tab how exactly
consuming the placenta can be valuable. The page has a list of all the benefits, including related
articles that go into further detail on a specific subject. Annette McDermott explains in her article
that a study was done on one hundred and eight nine participants, and seventy six percent said they
experienced positive results when consuming placenta. Yet another article by Michele Zipp also
mentions the previously mentioned study, and says that more studies will be conducted in the
future. It also mentioned that mothers who had another kid would continue to consume the
placenta, and in different ways, which suggests they had experienced positive effects. One last blog
from whattoexpect talks about the positive effects of placenta ingestion mentions facts about the
placenta, such as the fact that it

Electromagnetism Studies the Relationship Between...
Electromagnetism is the branch of physics that studies the relationship between electricity and
magnetism. Electromagnets are magnets that uses an electric current to attract metal.
Electromagnets have many parts that make up them and are used in many things.
Electromagnetism has a history that dates back over 200 years. The year 1700 was the first
demonstration of an electromagnet, yet scientists didn t know much about electromagnetism (Bellis
1). In 1820, scientists had just started to get deep into electromagnets, Hans Oersted discovered that
a conductor carrying an electric current was surrounded by a magnetic field (Bellis 2). Hans Oersted
discovered this because his compass reacted to a battery when he connected them using wires. ...

A cyclotron is a device used for scientific research in which subatomic charged particles are
accelerated in a constant magnetic field. Magnetic fields supply a powerful research tool without
which modern physics could have grown to its present extent. A typical magnet consists of iron,
nickel, and steel. All magnets have a north and south pole, the opposite poles are attracted to each
other and similar poles repel each other. A magnet is something that attracts metal. There are many
types of magnets, there are, ceramic, alnico, neodymium, samarium, and of course, electromagnets
(Wilson 2007). The most commonly used magnet. To make a magnet, you just encourage the
domains to face the same way (Wilson 2007). To encourage the domains by placing it in a north
south direction and strike it with a hammer. Striking it with a hammer make the domains lineup by
jarring them sometimes in the same direction (Wilson 2007). If you place it magnetic field then it
can also gain a magnetic field of itself. Each domain is a tiny magnet. Each domain has magnetic
domains pointing in different directions, canceling each other out (Wilson 2007). Magnets range
from weak magnets, to strong magnets that can even lift a car. The strength of a magnet depends
on how hard it is to magnetize it (Wilson 2007). Magnets are made by rubbing a permanent magnet
along a piece metal for a long time repeatedly. When the same poles touch each other, magnetic
lines clash together. To make a magnet

Design Theory And Creation, Game Design, And Word And Excel
Introduction: over the course of this year we have done 4 topics Algorithm Concepts, Design
Theory And Creation, Game Design, and Word And Excel. We have done three internal
assessments: For word and excel a mail merge was created to send thanks to various people for
assistance with fundraising activities, a poster to explain which school house raised the most
money for fundraising activities, and a spreadsheet explaining showing how much money each
house raised. For design theory and creation designed a childrens restaurant and developed a
logo and marketing materials for said restaurant And two booklets were critiqued. Application
Software: This year for the first assessment i used microsoft word for the mail merge mail merge
can be used to send the same message to multiple people with different starts address block= and
poster because it is an effective tool for posters and mail due to the many effects you can apply
to the text and then used excel for the spreadsheet because it is more suitable for making
spreadsheets, this is because excel sheets are made up of cells which have grid references
allowing you to use formulas to set up a perfect spreadsheet. When we designed a childrens
restaurant we used a program called Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator is useful because it allows
you to use vector images, vector images are images that have colour filled in between various

The Peculiar History Of Foot Binding
Foot binding is the custom of applying painfully tight binding to the feet of young girls to prevent
further growth. This harsh practice belonged to the unique Chinese culture. Foot binding originated
with upper class dancers and then spread to the Song Dynasty. In the 12th century, foot binding
became more and more popular amongst Chinese women. From there, it eventually spread to many
other dynasties and classes. By the mid 17th century, every girl who married had bound feet. The
footbinding practice lasted roughly until the 20th century ( Foot Binding ). Although it is a sign of
beauty and worth, foot binding is an act of abuse towards Chinese females because society
pressures them to do so.
Many various stories are told about how the foot binding process came to be. The most common
story is about an emperor s courtesan who was dancing barefoot on a platform covered in lotus
flower designs and pearls. The emperor, Xiao Baojuan, thought that her delicate feet were beautiful
and then expressed respect and appreciation towards her ( The Peculiar History of Foot Binding ).

then, many maidens and young girls have joined in on this practice in sight of having high worth

Strategy Development
Objective
In the survey that we did, we found out that most of the people think Mini Cooper as a car of
fun. The problem is that generally Mini is associated with young people. We want to change that
point of view. It is a kind of stereotyping when someone says Mini is a young people s car and it
is for fun. That s why our goal to be accomplished with this program is to attract new customers
regardless of their age range. We can do this by increasing awareness and reposition the Mini
brand. We want to increase awareness because we want our potential new customers to be aware
of what the company and product stands for. Once we accomplish to attract their awareness and
reposition the brand, we want them to have the perception, which we tried to accomplish, of what
our brand is. Our communication objective is therefore perception. We want Mini to be perceived
as a car that can be driven by anyone from any age range and not a car for only young people to use.
Target Audience
In this section, we will analyze the target audience of Mini Cooper and will try to picture
characteristics of its target market.
Financial crises have hit the world economics quite negatively and passenger s car segment has
been influenced to a great extent. Sales have dropped for more than double and needs of customers
have been directed towards motorcycle markets. Yet, as mentioned in the Annual Report of the

To Kill A Mockingbird Conflict Analysis
Another narrative convention that significantly affects the communal norms and judgmental
nature in To Kill a Mockingbird is conflict. The conflicts that Harper Lee expresses, displays the
hatred and social injustice Maycomb truly has in To Kill a Mockingbird. The person versus
society conflict aids in revealing the depths of Maycomb s society. Maycomb s community is
like the ocean, the surface is blue and clean, when one dives in deep into the ocean, and one can
see it for what it really is. Looking deeper into Maycomb uncovers the true society. The social
discrimination is often shaped by societal norms. It is expected to be socially unjust to blacks, but a

Judge Taylor and the rest of the jury were pressured into being social unjust and racist according
to societal norms. If the jury had not followed the public standard, the town of Maycomb would
have caused mayhem. The jury was not expected to take Tom Robinson s word because the norm
is that one must be racist and that a white s word is worth more than a black s. The town would
have been shocked if Tom Robinson won. Therefore this conflict demonstrates the importance of
the judgement and societal norms in Maycomb s community. This is important because this
means that the law force is biased. Another way this is crucial is because if the law is willing to
slack off in such an important case like this, what other things have slipped through their fingers?
This decision costed a life and soon, if this continues, this could cost many, more lives. The result

The Relationship Between Osteoporosis And Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis, also known as porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone mass and
structural deterioration of bone tissue which leads to bone fragility and an increased risks of the
hip, spine, and wrist. Both men and women are affected by this (although it affects women more)
but it can be prevented and treated. In the United States, more than 40 million people either already
have osteoporosisor at a high risk because of low bonemass.
Sir Astley Paston Cooper was a famous English physician, anatomist, and surgeon who first
discovered the association between fractures and bone density reduction because of aging which
created the base for discovering Osteoporosis. Another person who helped with the discovery of
osteoporosis was Jean Lobstein. Around 1833, Lobstein was the first person to medically describe
the pathological condition and appearance of Osteoporosis. He described the condition as, One
with holes in the bone associated with fragility . He was also the one who named the disease.
Another important discovery of the disease is the relationship between osteoporosis with the
postmenopausal state, which was discovered by Fuller Albright. Albright discovered that there is a
direct relationship between the lack of estrogen after menopause and the development of
osteoporosis. After menopause, bone breakdown outrun the building of new bone. Early

Freshmen Year High School
It s the first day of freshmen year of high school, all the new and old students are piling into their
first class of the day. Luckily for me my first class was English with Mr. Eddie Smith, the man
who would eventually help me fall in love with literature. I walk into his classroom and it s like I
was walking into a different world. I had never seen a classroom decorated so much as his. He
had an array of posters show casing bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, to different
movies, books, and cool quotes. In the corner of the room was his desk and right next to it were
cut outs of Elvis Presley and Darth Vader. He had also posted amazing projects made by his past
students and to finish the room off he hung around all around room... Show more content on

Mr. Smith would start the class by passing around a bowl of candy, which everyone loved. He
would joke that it s always good to have a little sugar in the morning, and on special occasions he
would bring us cookies and milk. Those were usually the best classes. Freshmen year we started
to read different Greek mythologies. The way Mr. Smith would explain the mythology, he would
make it seem like every student was part of it. He would act like he was telling us a bedtime story
and with so much description, it would make you forget that you were in class. He definitely
had me at the edge of my seat and it was the first time I was actually enjoying English class. After
explaining the story in depth, we would read passages from the story then he would find scenes
from movies that would correlate with parts of the story that we just read. We did the same
thing for Shakespeare, when we read Romeo and Juliet. We would analyze the movie to really
see the emotion the characters were expressing and to truly understand the story. This really
helped me really get close to the story and grasp what Shakespeare was trying to convey in his
writing. Before I had his class, I never had literature taught to me in such a way that I was able to
easily understand the story before even reading it. This method of teaching helped the story
resonate with me longer, which made me more

During 2011 significant industrial relation events took place in Australia. One significant event that
was widely reported in the media and according to Catanzartiti and Kane (2012) captured the
interest of the mainstream press more than any other case during 2011 , was the Qantas Airways
Limited (Qantas) dispute .
The Qantas dispute involved varying parties. These parties included Qantas employees and their
representing unions, Qantas Management, the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills Jobs and
Workplace Relations and Fair Work Australia
Qantas employees consisted of pilots represented by the AIPA (Australian and International Pilots
Association), ground staff represented by the TWU (Transport Workers... Show more content on

Representing unions attempted to ensure job security and secure bettered working conditions. The
bargaining process was criticised for taking too long, as AIPA and ALAE negotiations began in
August 2010, and then in 2011 TWU had began bargaining . (Brigden, 2012).
As a result of no progress in the negotiations, applications to FWA were made to commence
protected industrial action. Subsequently various forms of action was undertaken by the three
employee groups. The unions engaged in overtime bans and ongoing brief work stoppages, which
disrupted Qantas flights regularly and impacted reportedly on the airline commercially (workplace
xpress 2011e) (Todd, 2012).
Industrial action conducted by the Engineers included short stoppages, weekend overtime bans, full
shift stoppages and a stop work meeting. The protected action was intermittent, and on some
occasions was not undertaken when scheduled, also, stoppages were managed in order for Qantas
to continue business. (Sangkuhl, 2011)
Conciliation with FWA had also commenced but no advancements had been made (Brigden, 2012).
TWU also conducted short stoppages, and a stop work meeting, and although it would appear that
these were conducted to minimise disruptions this was inevitable as some stoppages were
cancelled, affecting Qantas business.

Theme Of Cruelty Towards Children In The Poem The Chimney...
In the poem Holy Thursday songs of experience and in the poem The Chimney Sweeper ,
William Blake makes use of various literary techniques to portray the theme of cruelty towards
children. The poem Holy Thursday refers to the wretched condition of children in charity
schools. The poem The Chimney Sweeper refers to the poor children who were used as slaves in
England. My aim for this essay is to explore how William Blakemade use of various literary
techniques to portray the theme of cruelty towards children in the two poems.
The title Holy Thursday alludes to joy and purity. Yet this poem highlights the cruelty towards
children in charity schools. Blake makes use of this contrast to emphasize on the subject of the

Indeed the parents leave their child alone in poor and wrenched conditions to furthermore pray for
the well being of their family. This irony portrays the cruelty towards children in the poem.
The poet effectively makes use of different metaphors to portray cruelty towards children in the
poem. Clothes of death is a metaphor for the chimney sweepers uniform. The boy feels the injustice
that he has to sweep chimneys as a child. The noun death might allude to the harsh working
conditions that the child has to face. The latter hence might describe his work as a deadly task. This
metaphor hence, greatly contribute to the portrayal of children ill treatment in this poem.
The metaphor sing the notes of woe describe the child s despair as he begs lamentably the people
passing by to offer him a job that he hates. The noun woe moreover highlights the desperate state of
mind of the child and furthermore portray the frustration of the child as he is cruelly dominated by
his parents. Finally the metaphor make up a heaven of our misery might be a mouthpiece of Blake
as he accuses the Charity schools, the other social institutions and the society to treat children as

Organisational Structure
5. Two confronting cultures
5.1 Organisational structure
The organisational structure of a company reflects its culture, its management style and its leader
attitude in addition to the environment in which it has to operate. Without giving a full description
of the two airlines structure it is worth saying that British Airways and Virgin Airlines mainly differ
in two aspects: size and culture. Both companies have a structure which is mostly dictated by
operational needs characteristic to every airline. British Airways has a more formalised structure
with precise rules and procedures, due to its size and the global scope of its activity. A major
change in the last years has been the reduction of its management layers, between the chief ... Show

The reason for BA s success lies in the radical change of its culture undertaken in the 80 s and
which is still going on, as Mr. Ayling stated recently. BA managed in the 80 s to change from the
airline of last resort to the world s favourite carrier. The airline was grossly overmanned,
unpunctual and strike prone, with a very special disdain for passengers. It needed a coherent
philosophy on how the customer can best be served. Most of the change has been prompted by a
marketing orientation. Customers have been posed at the centre of the attention and individuals
have been empowered to take initiative. It learned to respond to customers requirements and co act
on individuals initiatives. Ayling is now concerned about how to remove the last vestiges of
bureaucracy.

Staffing System For A Job
Maria Romano MGE 629 HW#3 Chapter #7 1.Imagine and describe a staffing system for a job in
which no measures are used A staffing system for a job in which no measures are used would be
virtually impossible. Measurement is the key in staffing organizations, as it is a method used
for assessing aspects within the organization. A system without methods would have no efficient
method for determining a framework in the process of selection. 2.Describe how you might go
about determining scores for applicants responses to (a) interview questions, (b) letters of
recommendation, and (c) questions about previous work experience. To determine scores for
qualitative responses such as interview questions, letters of recommendations and previous
work experience questions, a scale would have to be created. To determine these scores, the
answers would have to be looked at subjectively by the reviewer and given a number on a rating
scale. Once the answers are given a numerical value, the total score can be compared to other
applicants scores to determine who may be more valuable to the company. 3.Give examples of
when you would want the following for a written job knowledge test: (a) a low coefficient alpha
(e.g., a=.35) and (b) a low test retest reliability. A low coefficient alpha represents a low reliability

Autobiography Of Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou Autobiography
American author Maya Angelou once said, I ve learned that people will forget what you said,
people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Over the
course of her life, Angelou has written almost a dozen books as well as countless poems. Most
notably is her autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings about the struggles she faced
during her adolescence. Angelou s story, although heartbreaking at times, is one of strength and
perseverance. Maya Angelou used her literary talent to transform her hardships into a message of
hope and inspired others to do the same. Maya Angelou, born Marguerite Ann Johnson, was born
April 28th in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Bailey Johnson, a doorman, and
Vivian Johnson, a nurse. Angelou and her older brother, Baileyv Jr., grew up with their
grandmother in rural Stamps, Arkansas (source 1). Angelou and her brother spent four years in
their grandmother s care. Although Angelou and her brother thrived there, their father decided to
send them back to live with their mother and her boyfriend in California. As for education,
Angelou attended public schools in both Arkansas and California. ((source 1). Angelou went on
to study dance and theater at the California Labor School but eventually dropped out to become
the first female African American streetcar conductor. (source 11). Being a young black woman
in the mid 1900s, Angelou faced countless person struggles. Unfortunately, her trouble did not
end with race, At the age of eight, Angelou was raped by her mother s boyfriend, Mr. Freeman.
Angelou confided in her brother Bailey and he, in turn, told the proper authorities. Angelou
testified against Mr. Freeman in court. He was found guilty but ultimately stayed in jail only for
a night. The next day, Mr. Freeman was found beaten to death, likely by Angelou s uncles. After
this incident, young Angelou did not speak for almost five years, She believed her words could
kill (source 2). Angelou did not literally kill Mr. Freeman by her testimony, but her words
definitely had an effect on others. One can see from an early age that Angelou understood the
power of words. Perhaps this was foreshadowing her

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia
Since the beginning of time, authors have used rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the
reader of their claims. These rhetorical strategies are used in everyday life whether people use it
intentionally or not. My purpose for writing this text is to provide you guys examples of rhetorical
strategies using two pieces of text. The first piece of text is by Edward Albeeand it is titled The
Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia. The text is about a family going through turmoil. Martin, a married man
with a gay son, reveals that he is in love with a goat by the name of Sylvia. His love for Sylvia
ultimately ruins his relationship with his family. The author of this book, Albee, is known for
being an American playwright director. He has written several plays about relationships and
marriage. The second text is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, written by Hunter S. Thompson. The
text was about a guy named Raoul Duke and his attorney reporting the race during the Mint 400.
Throughout the text, both men go on a drug binge and consume countless amounts of substances.
Thompson was an American journalist who traveled across the U.S. Although he made several
pieces of work, he is best known for the type of journalism that he conducted. He created the term
ganzo which referred to his style of journalism. The term ganzo meant that the journalist has to be
an integral part of his stories. Albee and Thompson have different views of the American dream.
Albee argues that the American dream is perfect

Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 Analysis Essay
Matt Cingari
E 110
February 11, 2010
Sharon Olds Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 is a very sad and dreary poem. This is
because Olds writes about the Battle of Leningrad, a 900 day siege of Leningrad during World
War II, and the lifelessness that is going on afterwards. Olds word choice throughout the poem is
very important to the meaning of this poem. The way that she writes about this battle paints a very
clear picture in my mind of what she is describing. Many times thorough the poem, Olds compares
life and death many times with different comparisons. Olds starts off the poem by saying: That
winter, the dead could not be buried. (1) This creates a sad tone for when the rest of the poem. She
then talks about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though, the cocoon comparison could also mean that the battle was a turning point in the war.
This is because Russia gained momentum against Germany with that victory, which did start a
new life in the war. A hand reaching out/ with no sign of peace, wanting to come back (15 16) is
another comparison of life to death. Olds is saying that the lifeless corpse is still making a
gesture saying that the dead would return if they could at any price. She says that those people
who died in the battle, the corpses, would do anything even to the bread make of glue and
sawdust, / even to the icy winter, and the siege. (18 19) I think that the moral of this poem is that
life is precious, and that life should never be taken for granted. I think this is because the whole
poem is comparisons between life and death, and because she says that the people who have
passed away would do anything possible to come back to life, even under the worst conditions, to
be loved, to love, and to be with the people they

Comparison Of And The Man He Killed
Both The Man I Killed and The Man He Killed deal with a touchy subject: the morals and ethics
of killing someone in war. The Man He Killed is set during WW1 and is told through the
perspective of an anonymous main character while The Man I Killed is set during the Vietnam
war and is told through the perspective of O Brien. The story may convey a similar message, but
three things that set the two works of literature apart are the setting, reaction, and the person. In
The Man He Killed , a soldier in WW1, presumably European, kills an enemy for his first time.
This soldier s war was a completely different beast than Nam. In WW1 the front line was obvious,
their army was on one side and the enemy was on the other, which made it clear

Honor Codes In Tobias Wolff s Old School
The existence of honor codes has had basis in helping students learn since their inception, but there
are still those who object to their very definition. Nearly every institution centered around the
education of children has some sort of code of conduct or set of rules in place for the betterment of
the students. However, the term honorin the title honor codeis what people can occasionally take
issue with, as the term often implies a much more respectful idea. This issue leads one to question
the purpose of honor codes. Although honor codes, like that of the school in Tobias Wolff
s Old
School, exist for the purpose of bettering the students by ensuring that they all have an equal
chance and that they all do their own work, Mr. Ramsey objects to his school s honor code
because he believes in a much more personal and valuable meaning of the word honor .
Honor codes and codes of conduct have existed for about as long as systems of institutionalized
education have, as they exist for the betterment of the students. Honor codes often consist of a set
of enumerated standards that the aforementioned institution holds its students to. Without them,
students cheating would go unregulated, which would overall just harm themselves, since it would
be detrimental to their learning experience. The use of outside advantage to garner better grades
would make it harder for the students to gain the help that they need, as well as allowing students to
proceed without actually

and developing communication like skills. Online multiplayer video games involve thousands of
players all over the world who may play solo, in teams, or with one other player. To begin the
study, a survey will be created in order to gather information on the communication skills of
collaborative gaming individuals. The survey will have subjects answer different questions
regarding their communication behavior during videogame playing. In addition the number of
years that a subject has played a particular video gameor participated in online video gaming will

This sample size is appropriate because the study must account for the vast number of multiplayer
games that a respondent may participate in, which may have an impact on their communication
skills. It is important to recognize however, that this particular sample, though a convenience
sample, is also made up of respondents who are part of the gaming community. Thus, this sample
has certain limitations in that the data will compiled from a self selected sample.
Section 3: Key Variables
The main question was to identify whether online collaborative gaming improved communication
skills. Four variables were used to assess whether communication skills could be improved due
to online gaming they are as follows: team communication skills, communication through
leadership skills, autocratic leadership skills, and leadership through democracy skills. The team
communication skills variable which consists of questions on the survey 1 7 which can be
found in the Appendix as 1B measure a respondents perception about their own communication
skill level as a member of a cooperative team. These responses were measured by using a Likert
Scale on a 5 point system with Strongly Disagree 1 to 5 Strongly Agree. These 7 questions were
averaged and the higher the score received by the respondent, the better team communication skills
they believe they had. The next six items, questions 8 13 were used to identify the respondents

African American Theater Essays
Over the course of approximately one hundred years there has been a discernible metamorphosis
within the realm of African American cinema. African Americans have overcome the heavy weight
of oppression in forms such as of politics, citizenship and most importantly equal human rights.
One of the most evident forms that were withheld from African Americans came in the structure of
the performing arts; specifically film. The common population did not allow blacks to drink from
the same water fountain let alone share the same television waves or stage. But over time the
strength of the expectant black actors and actresses overwhelmed the majority force to stop blacks
from appearing on film. For the longest time the performing arts were... Show more content on

В‘The Tom represented the African American who was badgered and controlled by the white

was in the position of superiority. Bogle defines him as, the harassed hounded, flogged, enslaved,
and insulted. They keep the faith, and stay true to their masters always remaining kind and
selfless. Thus they endear themselves to white audiences and emerge as heroes of sorts (6). One of
the most prevalent plays where this type of black characters emerged was given the name, Uncle
Tom s Cabin. This theatrical production came about during the 1850 s. It gave an overview of
Harriet Beecher Stowe s (a white women who was against slavery) claim that white Americans
imagine themselves as suffering slaves. In this production whites in blackface played Tom, Eliza,
and Topsy . This construction was very controversial; Michael Rogin gives a brief summary and
comment on this in his book, Blackface, Whitenoise:
The production of Uncle Tom s Cabin was not only embracing slaves but also supporting
antislavery politics. There was considerable overlap, to be sure, between the proslavery and
sentimental abolitionist structures of feeling, for maternalist

It will never always be about fantasies and happy endings nor easy things and easy love. There is no such thing as easy when it comes to love. It taught me how true love is always dependent to sacrificing things whether its big or small sacrifice. Say for example, when you truly love a person you will always try to make them happy even if you re not, you will always try to understand them even if you re already having a hard time, you will always make time for them even if you re loaded with bunch of works just to make them feel important, you will always be willing to listen to them even if you re hurting, you will always choose what s best for them even if it s hard for you. • 5. Ovid s Metamorphoses Sexuality When one becomes familiar with mythology through Ovid s Metamorphoses, a collection of preexisting myths, strung together with the unifying theme of metamorphosis and divine intervention, a new language of allusions is discovered. This is used by Christopher Marlowe to better express the themes of beauty and sexuality through an Ovidian aesthetic in his epyllion, Hero and Leander. Marlowe writes of two naГЇve lovers, equal in beauty, separated by the Hellespont, Leander in Abydos and Hero in Sestos. During the festival of Venus and Adonis in Sestos, Leander falls in love with Venus nun, Hero, who vowed chastity to the goddess. Despite this, Leander continues to court her with passionate and persuasive language. Hero overcome by her own feelings, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the story, Hero has struggled with her love for Leander and dedication to Venus. In her first amorous meeting with Leander He asked, she gave and nothing was denied; ... / And what he did, she willingly requited (509, 512). This encounter does not seem to go further than embracing and sweet kisses, so Hero was able to both love Leander and respect her vow. Leander, however, seems to be overwhelmed with his newly discovered sexual desire and eager to act on it. When he does after reaching Hero s tower, she tries to hide but is at his mercy. The girl who before was enamored with Love s holy fire, with words, with sighs and tears / Which like sweet music entered Hero s ears (193 194) is now left to believe: Love is not full of pity, as men say, / But deaf and cruel, where he means to prey (771 772). • 7. The Tragedy And Horror Of The Joplin Tornado It is my belief that the attachment of positive interpretations to the tragedy and horror of the Joplin tornado, and the repetition of such themes through continuous narration, directly affected community ethos. This, in turn, helped further select the features of the collective narrative shared with the nation through national news. The national attention to Joplin, spurred those wanting to help in the wake of such devastation and those in admiration of the community s own resilience to volunteer time and resources to the recovery effort. Cast as an all American city in the Heartland of the nation, the positive ethos and determination demonstrated by Joplin citizens transformed the community s identity from a virtually unknown place in Missouri to a symbol of the nation, a transformation further encouraged through the wording of public statements by President Obama and Governor Nixon as well as featuring Joplin on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and other television shows. To the nation, Joplin became a place amid an undifferentiated region, except to locals, known as fly over states. Theoretical Implications Disasters are totalizing events, impacting and influencing every aspect of a community when they occur. As the anthropology of disaster grows, both in the number of publications and the number of researchers, the scope of topics related to disasters will also grow. Economic implications, vulnerable populations, and human ecology already contribute heavily to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The writing was easy to follow and was written on an interesting topic, which everyone can relate to. The most entertaining and informative parts were food and vision. I learned a great deal in that section and was entertaining to learn how food and vision are so closely related. For example all the different types of foods that are considered aphrodisiacs. Another entertaining section was the part about food and its history. How the Egyptians thought very highly of the onion and swore upon it as we do the bible. Overall this was a good essay it flowed nicely and was really easy to follow along. The following are the topics I chose to discuss concerning tasteand vision Losing ... • 9. Examples Of Paul s Departure From The Hebrew Scriptures monly seen as a direct continuation of the Hebrew Scriptures. However, once it is closely analyzed, the New Testament differences can be clearly seen, and these concrete discrepancies are conveniently laid out in the Pauline letters, especially in Romans. Three of the major examples of Paul s departure from the Hebrew Scriptures are the difference of what Messiah means, the view of the irreparable alienation between man and God, and what people can do to heal the disconnect. To start, Paul reinterprets what it means to be a Messiah. For the Hebrew Scriptures, Messiahs were, as Harris calls them, warrior kings (Harris 309). They were political agents that tried and succeeded to reestablish the Davidic Monarchy, and essentially bring Israel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After their confession, God essentially curses them: ...pains in childbearing..., through painful toil you will eat food... (Gen. 8: 16 17). For Jews, this occurrence is an example of humanity s imperfection and foolishness. Together, Israel must learn from this mistake and continue in their duty to carry out God s justice to eventually become as holy as God. Paul sees this instance very differently. He introduces the idea of original sin where Adam and Eve s transgression destroyed the connection between God and man. Because of this alienation, man is incapable of doing good. Man has fallen, and there is nothing he can do. Humanity is perpetually mired in the sin of idolatry, and, because Adam is the father and Eve is the mother of all of humanity, every living person is affected by this disconnect. Moreover, god is wrathful because of the unjustifiable ...wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness... (Romans 1: 18). This was Jesus mission, to die an atoning death, resurrect, and fix the irreparable damage from original sin, which therefore gives man new life. But there is still one more thing required of ... • 10. Analysis Of The Book The Chronicles Of Narnia Clive Staples Lewis, a British novelist, poet, academic, and Christian apologist managed to transcend cultural boundaries with his fictional literary book series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The book series is regarded as a classic of children s literature and is Lewis s best known work, having sold over 100 million copies in 47 languages. The books were written around 1950 and have been adapted through several mediums, including film. In particular, the film creation of the first of the seven books, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, made in 2005, presents a problematic dynamic of gender, genre, and religion. The Chronicles of Narniabook series is meant to portray the Christian morality throughout the book series. Therefore, whatever is presented about gender holds merit regarding how the Christian worldview sees gender. Within The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, a particular scene with a man named Father Christmas provides a clear view as to how gender is seen in the series. In this scene, Father Christmas meets the four main characters of the film, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy who are all siblings. Before the children engage in the beginning of a nasty war, Father Christmas provides exclusively gender specific gifts to the children. The oldest boy, Peter, receives a sword while his slightly younger sister Susan, receives a horn to simply, call for help, and a bow and arrow that is not meant to be used in battle. They all meet around the cove, but they all get ready for rivalry. One ship starts dismissing their cannons at their enemies. Just then, the other two ships began to sail away, but one cannonball proceeded towards one ship, and struck the ship leaving it to sink. Virginia Vs Massachusetts Bay Colony Essay After Spanish colonization of the Americas during the late 15th and 16th centuries, many other European nations sought to expand their presence to the New World. The British were at the forefront of this expansion, and soon occupied most of the eastern coast of the United States, which was split into three regions: New England, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies. These areas were founded upon different principles and ideologies, evident in the settlements of Virginia and MassachusettsBay. Although the two were similar in some ways, their economic prospects and religious perspectives caused them to differ greatly. However, as both colonies continued to flourish, so did the number of their inhabitants. Virginia was centered around the tobacco industry and because Massachusetts, as well as many other New England colonies, was on the coast, it was a bustling sea port. There was competition for work, however, and Boston was the worst because it was such a big port city, where the merchant system dominated. Virginia, as mentioned before, had a demand for labor, hence a huge boom in the slavery system. Both colonies also had rocky beginnings with the Natives in the surrounding areas. Initially, in both settlements, they were met with hostility because of the foreign peoples on their lands. The Jamestown settlers had virtually no relationship with them, but with the help of John Smith, and the realization that the English weren t going to leave, they began to help. When the Puritans landed in Massachusetts, they believed that the English had the right to all lands in the New World, and that the Natives were going to have to vacate. However, trade helped to soften the edges of impending conflict between the two groups, and the colonists were able to trade for valuable furs to send back to England. Despite being on relatively good terms, there were still wars between the settlers and the Native Americans. This happened throughout all the colonies, not just Virginia and ... The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson reveals that the ghastly depiction of the Indian religion (or what Rowlandson perceives as a lack of religion) in the narrative is directly related to the ideologies of her Puritan upbringing. Furthermore, Rowlandson s experiences in captivity and encounter with the new, or Other religionof the Indians cause her rethink, and question her past; her experiences do not however cause her to redirect her life or change her ideals in any way. The first era occurred 1492 until 1800 with the age of exploration and discovery. Globalization 2.0 followed, lasting 1800 2000. It was characterized by the Industrial Revolution. The third era of globalizationbegan in the year 2000, and occurs to this day (Friedman, year, p.8). But the real question is, what sparked the rise of globalization? The term is modern, but the concept is not. Capitalismand the Industrial Revolutionplayed a huge part in the development of industrial cities and globalization. The need of goods that cannot be produced everywhere sparked trade and exploration, and with that came capitalism and the rise of technology as well. Surplus of products led to a population growth, and technological advances led to trade. The world was being utilized for economic growth. With globalization 2.0 came the industrial revolution, and a huge economic time for the United States. More trade and technological advancements and inventions helped people and products prosper. Transportation in the form of trains and steam engines grew the economy and industrial cities rapidly. Multinational corporations led to new immigrants, and thus diversifying populations. Peirce sketches a nest of three arguments for the Reality of God in his article A Neglected Argument for the Reality of God. I provide careful analysis and explication of Peirce s argument, along with consideration of some objections. I argue that (1) there are significant differences between Peirce s neglected argument and the traditional arguments for God s existence; (2) Peirce s analysis of the neglected argument into three arguments is misleading; (3) there are two distinct levels of argument that Peirce does not recognize; and (4) it is doubtful whether the argument meets all the criteria set by Peirce himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, Peirce distinguishes between an argument and argumentation. An argument is any process of thought reasonably tending to produce a definite belief while argumentation refers to an argument that proceeds upon definitely formulated premisses (6.456). We must note that Peirce s Neglected Argument (hereafter referred to as NA) is an argument, but not argumentation. Second, we must distinguish between reality and existence. Reality is a broader term that encompasses what exists but is not synonymous with it. (3) For something to be real it must have properties sufficient to identify it whether anyone attributes those properties to it or not. The existent, strictly speaking, is what interacts with things in a spatio temporal environment (6.454). Since God is not another spatio temporal object, it amounts to fetishism, Peirce remarks, to say that God exists (6.495). Hence his argument, strictly speaking, is not an argument for God s existence, but for God s reality. If we compare Peirce s NA with the traditional arguments for God s existence that philosophers know and love to criticize, we are immediately struck with a major difference. Peirce s argument is not argumentation, but the traditional arguments (ontological, cosmological, teleological) are argumentation. Peirce is not offering yet another bit of argumentation that concludes with a proposition of metaphysical theology about the existence or reality of some being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Peculiar History Of Foot Binding Foot binding is the custom of applying painfully tight binding to the feet of young girls to prevent further growth. This harsh practice belonged to the unique Chinese culture. Foot binding originated with upper class dancers and then spread to the Song Dynasty. In the 12th century, foot binding became more and more popular amongst Chinese women. From there, it eventually spread to many other dynasties and classes. By the mid 17th century, every girl who married had bound feet. The footbinding practice lasted roughly until the 20th century ( Foot Binding ). Although it is a sign of beauty and worth, foot binding is an act of abuse towards Chinese females because society pressures them to do so. Many various stories are told about how the foot binding process came to be. The most common story is about an emperor s courtesan who was dancing barefoot on a platform covered in lotus flower designs and pearls. The emperor, Xiao Baojuan, thought that her delicate feet were beautiful and then expressed respect and appreciation towards her ( The Peculiar History of Foot Binding ). Strategy Development Objective In the survey that we did, we found out that most of the people think Mini Cooper as a car of fun. The problem is that generally Mini is associated with young people. We want to change that point of view. It is a kind of stereotyping when someone says Mini is a young people s car and it is for fun. That s why our goal to be accomplished with this program is to attract new customers regardless of their age range. We can do this by increasing awareness and reposition the Mini brand. We want to increase awareness because we want our potential new customers to be aware of what the company and product stands for. Once we accomplish to attract their awareness and reposition the brand, we want them to have the perception, which we tried to accomplish, of what our brand is. The conflicts that Harper Lee expresses, displays the hatred and social injustice Maycomb truly has in To Kill a Mockingbird. They keep the faith, and stay true to their masters always remaining kind and selfless. Thus they endear themselves to white audiences and emerge as heroes of sorts (6). One of the most prevalent plays where this type of black characters emerged was given the name, Uncle Tom s Cabin. This theatrical production came about during the 1850 s.
