Three Elements Of Negligence
INTRODUCTION
Negligence can be defined as the failure to behave with the level of care that a reasonable man
would have taken to avoid any mishappening. The behaviour generally consists of action but can
also consists of omissions when a duty to act is needed.
Concept of negligence and in the contest of master servant relationship
WHAT IS NEGLIGENCE??
Negligence can be defined as breach of duty of care that results in loss or injury to other person.
Negligence occurs when a person uses less than reasonable care to protect others from harm. When
a person is given a duty of care, then he or she is alone liable for breach of care.

VICARIOUS LIABILTY
Generally a man is liable for the wrongs committed by him. But there are certain cases where a
person is held liable for a tort committed by another.
The word vicarious liability means delegated. Thus the phrase vicarious liability, means the liability
of a person for the tort of another.
The principal instance is liability of an employer for the harm caused by an act or omission of
someone doing work for him.

King Lear as a Commentary on Greed
King Lear as a Commentary on Greed
In Chapter 4 of a book titled Escape from Freedom, the famous American psychologist Erich
Fromm wrote that Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to
satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction (Fromm 98). Fromm realized that avarice is one
of the most powerful emotions that a person can feel, but, by its very nature, is an emotion or
driving force that can never be satisfied. For, once someone obtains a certain goal, that person is not
satisfied and continues to strive for more and more until that quest leads to their ultimate
destruction. For this reason, authors have embraced the idea of greed in the creation of hundreds of

Edmund declares that if this letter speed, / And my invention thrive, Edmund the base / Shall top the
legitimate (1.2.19 21). When Gloucester enters and forces Edmund to turn over the forged letter,
Edmund adds fuel to the fire by saying he has often heard Edgar pondering this wish. Gloucester
gullibly believes him, and Edmund s display of greed begins.
What begins as a simple plan to get all of his father s inheritance, becomes more and more
complicated as Edmund becomes progressively greedier. When Edmund encounters Edgar in the
first scene of Act II, Edmund makes Edgar leave and then injures himself so that he can tell his
father that he was injured by his bloodthirsty brother. His blatant cunning becomes extremely
obvious in a short exchange between himself and his father. Gloucester, after Edmund decided that
some blood drawn on me would beget opinion of my more fierce endeavor (2.1.33 34), asks
Edmund But where is [Edgar]? (2.1.40). Rather than answering how one might expect, Edmund
chooses to focus attention on the made up battle and his injury, and therefore responds, Look sir, I
bleed (2.1.41). This answer continues to demonstrate to the audience the amount of avarice that fills
and continues to grow within Edmund.
Near the end of the third act, Edmund s

Decriminalization of Marijuana
There has been talk about the decriminalization of marijuana for many years, and it is a very
controversial subject. The Liberal government stated in its platform that it intended to
decriminalize marijuana if elected and since being elected, they have promised to decriminalize
it by April 2017. A 2012 poll by Angus Reid showed that 57% of Canadians are in favor of
legalizing marijuana (MacLean s 2013). Many people believe that even if it is not decriminalized,
there should be less harsh penalties to those who are caught with it. There are many reasons

Understanding The Trinity By Alister E.mcgrath
Understanding the Trinity, by Alister E.McGrath
Alister E. McGrath is a historian, biochemist, and Christian theologian from Ireland. A longtime
professor at Oxford University, he now holds the Chair in Theology, ministry and education at the
University of London. Among other of his writings are: Christianity s Dangerous Idea; In the
Beginning; and The Twilight of Atheism. He is known for his work in historical theology,
systematic theology and other writings on apologetics.
Understanding the Trinity by Dr. McGrath is a book worth reading for those who want to learn more
about the Trinity. Although having an apologetic formula, the message the author is trying to
convey is not rooted on such. From the beginning, the author emphasizes the need for a personal
encounter with God in order to validate its existence, something that can happen to anyone.
McGrath further develops a number of models, which he assumes will help individuals create a
conception of God. Using illustrations and models, the author tries to help the reader understand the
limitations of fully understanding the nature of the divine, and the notion of Trinity.
The book does not thoroughly explain the doctrine of the Trinity. What the author seems to convey
is how to understand the Trinity itself, but the concept of it. The author explains that we as humans
are incompatible to fully understand the reality of the trinity, which leaves us to look at the models
that God has revealed to us in the Bible. If

The Unbounded Reach of Rhetoric Essay
The Unbounded Reach of Rhetoric
In the year of 1938, during the Nuremburg Conference, a man stands up to deliver the closing
speech. This speech is not particularly as well known or as significant as many of his other
speeches, but the words of this thin and paunchy man are strong and resolute. He states, When the
question is still put to us why National Socialism fights with such fanaticism against the Jewish
element in Germany, why it pressed and still presses for its removal then the answer can only be:
Because National Socialism desires to establish a true community of the people.... Because we are
National Socialists, we can never suffer an alien race which has nothing to do with us to claim the
leadership of our working people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Book One of the Persian Expedition, Clearchus, a general of Cyrus, handles a potential
mutiny from the Greek mercenary soldiers when they become suspicious of Cyrus s motives. At
first Clearchus tried to force his own soldiers to go forward, but they threw stones at him and at
his baggage animals as soon as they attempted to make a start. Clearchus was very nearly stoned to
death on this occasion (Warner 65). Realizing that force was not going to work, he appeals to the
method of rhetoric by making a speech and having two of his men deliver a pre constructed
speech. He coyly feigns loyalty to the soldiers while he simultaneously makes it seem that going
against Cyrus would be impossible. Although still suspicious, the soldiers reluctantly decide to go
with and fight for Cyrus. This scene depicts rhetoric overcoming brute force in the promotion of
violence. Rhetoric is a form of action and without it many of the events in the novel would have
either never occurred or gone quite differently. In the PanHellenic dialogues by Xenophon, the army
is not only motivated to continue on in their endeavors but he also clears their conscious about
committing barbaric acts. This can been seen when he addresses the army and says, But when we
come to a place where we are given no opportunities to buy food, then, whether it is native country
or Greek country, we take our own supplies and do this not out of wanton aggression, but from
necessity (Warner 240).

Good Versus Evil In The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight (2008), directed by Christopher Nolan, demonstrates the idea of good versus evil.
Batman is known as the protagonist, and Joker is known as the ultimate villain. The representation
of crime in the film is seen from the actions of both characters. The film essentially depicts the act
of deviance meaning, behaviour that violates social norms, including laws . In normality the
government would have the greatest amount of power, but in the Gotham city, power is complex.
There is minimal structure of law and order in Gotham city due to powerful people like Batmanand
the Joker. Citizens of Gotham city can no longer fight for themselves in a world filled with
supernatural powers. Therefore, the only hope that citizens have rest in the hands of Batman.
Although Batman attempts to save Gotham city from Joker s criminal intentions. Batman,
however, also plays a role in deviant activity while attempting to catch the Joker. Realistically,
Batman violates the moral code due to destructive behaviour, and putting the lives of citizens at
harm. He does not care for social norms, nor whether his acts are of legality. He is devoted to
combat organized crime with Harvey Dent, a district attorney in Gotham city. Batman is in fact, the
definition of crime, he understands but does not abide to individual rights and social contracts
which make up the rule of law. In addition, the man behind Batman, Bruce Wayne also portrays a
form of deviance by disguising himself as Batman.

Violence And Death In Romeo And Juliet
Is Romeo and Juliet a Shakesperian play full of love at first sight or just rash and consequential
decisions? In this play we meet two star crossed lovers who meet at a party on one night and
then, almost instataneously, plegde themselves for each other and plan to marry, which then
leads to six people dying including themselves. Romeo and Juliet should have taken it slow with
their affairs in order to eliminate the violence and death that ensued from them falling in love,
encourage a healthier road to peace in order to unite both families, and to better encourage a
more joyful relationship, as mentioned by Friar Lurence. Juliet and Romeo s love at first sight
isn t as sweet as it first seems, as it leads into their own and three other character s,Tybalt, Paris,
Lady Montague and Mercutio, deaths. O Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio s dead!...This shall
determine that .They fight; TYBALT falls (I,i,78 93). Mercutio is slain by Tybalt, which is then
slain by Romeo. If Romeo had not been married to Juliet things might have turned out differently
for both characters. If Romeo had been less haste, the chances of this brawl of ever ocurring in the
first place would have been much lower, thus saving the lives of two very important characters of
this play. Both families have been at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Story Of Sir Carnell
Countess Aurelia crumpled up her paper and tossed it in a pile of other balls of paper that had piled
up over the past few days.
She banged her head against her desk. She d watched Sir Carnell for weeks on end, yet she
couldn t write a simple poem about him. Every time she wrote one word, it wasn t good enough. It
didn t sound right, didn t describe him right.
But there was something about him that compelled her to keep trying, and poetry was what she
was best at.
Aurelia stood and grabbed her stylus and wax tablet from her bedside table. She left her chamber
and headed straight into the courtyard.

Sir Carnell headed for the keep.
Aurelia followed him across the bridge. They went into the keep then into the hall. Sir Carnell
went to the dais where the King and Queen sat. Aurelia took a seat at the small table that was set up
below.
Sir Carnell looked up at his king. Yes, your highness?
Respectful? Aurelia carved the word into her tablet, though it left a bad taste in her mouth.
You re coming with me, said Richard. He stood and descended the steps.
Special? Aurelia lifted her stylus to write, but stopped. Special was too general.
Queen Fayre waved at Aurelia. Hi, Aurelia! Did you write something?
Aurelia? said Richard. He leaned on the table. Didn t notice you come in.
Aurelia smiled at him and slid her tablet off the table and into her lap. She looked up at Fayre. Uh,
not yet. I m still thinking.
Alright, said Fayre. Good luck. She looked to Richard. Richard, what color do you think I look best
in?
Richard stayed silent for a moment. Eh, white?
Fayre rolled her eyes. No I don t. That ll blend into my skin. You know what? Nevermind. She

how punishment and rehabilitation affects deterrence of crime, how it affects victims and their

upon society. Punishment and rehabilitation helps the inmate in different ways. This will show
both pros and cons to punishment and rehabilitation.

commit a crime. Many of them come out with the hope to find a job and be lawful citizens.
Effect on victims/families
The effects of crime on a victim can be a very difficult and stressful experience. Many people
experience after effects of the crime and have to seek professional counseling to help them get
through the traumatic experience. Depending on the type of crime committed against the victims
for some victims and their families life will never be the same. Many families are affected as

Why The Evm Is Not Used For A Important Concept On...
I agree with to begin to collect reasons why EVM it is not used accordingly and based on that to
build up the examples. My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the
progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that
by knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that
PMs know the conceptbut it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in
which the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not
known because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the
EVM is not used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by:
The project does not have requirements at all.
The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget
and the schedule.
There are wrong estimations of working packages.
The process of change management doesn t work or is ineffective.
The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection).
The incorrect progress of the project.
I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many
arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my
reflections why EVM wasn t used properly:
The scope of Ice on Ice project was the upgrade of the infrastructure of the Call Centre. Lack of

The Case Heard At Manchester Court
The case was heard at Manchester Crown Court on 2 December 2014. The defendant was
convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to the victim, contrary to s 47 of The Offences Against
the Person Act 1861. The victim held a party where there was a fallout which led to a bottle being
thrown by the defendant which injured the victim. The defendant denies deliberately harming the
victim and therefore it was left for a jury to decide upon whether the defendant was guilty or not
guilty. This report examines the victimologyin this case including the victim impact statement; it
then considers the suspect and what rights the suspect may have.
In its most simple form, victimology is the study of the victim or victims of a particular offender. It
is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case at hand the victim was accused of agitating and shouting at the offender before the
throwing of the bottle. However, there has been much debate and criticism concerning victimology
as it can provide arguments which blame victims for their fate. The fact subjects of crime are called
victims even could imply passivity, or their cooperation. In early publications by Mendelsohn, it
is clear that he has the intention to partially defend the offender and transfer the blame partially
onto the victim for their actions, by drawing attention to the victims involvement .This attitude
towards victimology can create an overlap of victims and offenders, resulting in victim blame. In
a study carried out by Kris Henning and Robert Holdford in 2006, they investigate the
attributions of blame in the crimes of 2,824 male probationers convicted of a domestic assault
against a partner . Two thirds of the men attributed greater blame to partner characteristics, rather
than their own. This is frequently seen in the case of sexual abuse cases, where the victim s
characteristics are seen to be an attributing factor to their abuse. In a daily mail survey , it was
found that a third of Britons believe a woman who acts flirtatiously is partially or completely to
blame for being raped, with over a quarter believing that if a woman is wearing sexually
provocative clothing or is drunk, they are partially to blame for it. The increasingly blurred lines

The atom is an important thing in the world of science and chemistry. The atom might have started
on a different point of view on how the atom works. There were many different people who had
many good and different ideas on how to use the atom and what it was used for. Democritus was one
of many other philosopher and scientists that wanted to start the discovery of the atom. He got the
name atom from a Greek word, atomos which means that everything is uncut table. The atom was
discovered by Ernest Rutherford while he was doing an experiment in 1911 1919. Ernest Rutherford
suggested at first that the atoms orbited around atomic the nucleus, just like the planets. Atoms are
basic units of matter that are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons are
particles that are found in the center of the atom, and the electrons are particles that are found in
shells that orbit around the nucleus of the atom. The nucleus was discovered in 1911, by Ernest
Rutherford and it is known for holding the protons and neutrons, and it s also in the middle of the
proton. Atoms have many other things that are special and important to use, but one of the most
useful thing is the Periodic Table, a table of the chemical elements arranged in order of the atomic
order. The most important things for the history of the atom are the basic units of matter which
make the atom

The Impact of Electric Vehicles on Greenhouse Gas...
The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil
fuels for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known
to be one of the foremost drivers of climate change. The United States is responsible for one fourth
of the world s total greenhouse gasemissions, representing only 5% of the world population and it
becomes the world s single largest emitter of atmospheric greenhouse gasses (EPA, 2011) . Since
1970, the U.S. share of net import of crude oil and consumption had been increased significantly

According to the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), the U.S. work towards an
economy wide CO2 cap and trade reduction program to reduce CO2 emissions to 17% below 2005
levels by 2020 (Morrow, Gallagher, Collantes, Lee, 2010).
As part of the United States planned greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, it is necessary
for U.S. to consider the effect of new electricity services coming to the transportation sector. One
such service that is gaining widespread interest is the electrification of personal transportation
(also referred to as passenger cars ) using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEV s). The advantage of
electrification of personal transportation leads to improved air quality and to reduce the U.S s GHG

Drinking Milk Is Unhealthy Essay
Introduction Throughout our lives we have been told that milk is good for our body and helps
to toughen our bones. Drinking milk started when people domesticated animals for food, which
happened around 7500 years ago in the central Balkans and central Europe. By that time
consuming milk was not as common as it is today. It was only farmers in some specific regions
that were using cow s milk. Milk s market grew the mass production of meat in the 15th century.
Afterwards in the 17th century, the idea of eating out and going to restaurants was born and fast
food industries, started using animal s meat for producing their meals. The rate of milk users grew

The other thing that we should consider before using dairy products is from the ethical point of
view. Drinking cow s milk or consuming any dairy product is equal to torturing thousands of
cows, due to changing their nature and way of living in order to make them useable for
ourselves. It has become evident that milk is not the only source and product that we can reach
vitamins, proteins and calcium from, in fact there are many natural and healthy products that
we can reach out those factors that we are looking for it in milk, for instance fruits. Contrary to
common belief, people should stop consuming milk because it is unhealthy, unnatural and
unethical. Drinking milk is Unhealthy Unlike what we have been thought, milk is unhealthy
and it will cause many different diseases in human s body. Even though that they try to limit the
bacteria in raw milk before and after milking, but they just can lower the level of bacteria, they
can t remove all of it, and by drinking milk we transfer diseases to our body (Garedew et al, 2012, p

the level of bacteria in cow s body. They also use sterilize milking equipment so the bacteria
available on the equipment will not reach cow s breast and directly milk. With all those sterilized

Example Of A Satire Analysis
In this assignment I m going to explain what modern satire is and to provide a practical example,
the case of Charlie Hebdo. The aim is to point out that satire is a controversial subject and it is
likely to stay that way for the time to come. I will also mention what satire can lead to and if it
should have defined boundaries. When too much is too much? I will use the news of the Mayor of
Amatrice, an Italian town, that sued the French magazine for aggravated defamation because of the
cartoon about the recent Italian earthquake.
I chose this issue because I ve always been interested in literature s styles, ethics, and freedom of
speech and information. Researching and writing about satire will necessarily touch these topics.
Satire is a very old genre of literature; it stretches back to the ancient Egypt and it s still very
prominent nowadays. The Merriam Webster online dictionary define and summarize it, as a type
of humor that shows the weaknesses or bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc. ( Satire
, 2016). Even if humour is an evident aspect of satire, it is not its sole aim: it strives to draw

One of the common charges that satirical authors face is that of bad taste and targeting the
victim(s) ( Satire , Wikipedia, 2016). Throughout the years, a satire magazine that experienced
accusations and threats is Charlie Hebdo. Charlie Hebdo is a French weekly newspaper,
introduces in November 1970 after the previous Hara Kiri Hebdo was banned for mocking the
death of former French President De Gaulle. The ban was motivated by the presence of
pornography in previous issues ( History , 2016). During the years the newspaper faced a
multitude of accusations and received lots of threats, the biggest and most tragic one concretized in
January 2015 when two masked gunmen attacked the magazine s office killing 12 people ( Charlie

Modern Culture Is Inevitable, By John Storey And The...
Evolution of culture is inevitable, as shown in John Storey s articles, Inventing Opera as art in
Nineteenth Century Manchester and The Invention of the English Christmas. Within both articles,
Storey showcases the transformation of culture, with the opera from low class entertainment to
high class art and Christmas transforming from a religious centered event to a capitalism driven
day. Both articles look at class hierarchy, the rise of materialism and accessibility. While both of
Storey s articles are concerned with the evolution of cultural events, the opera emphasises class
hierarchy, whereas the article on the progression of Christmas focuses on a materialistic revolution.
Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester told how opera evolved from an event
centred on entertainment to a form of art that could only be accessed by the bourgeois. Opera
became a social construct, creating a class hierarchy. Original Venetian operas were considered as
low cultureto the influential middle class as they were the popular culture at the time and attended
by lower class people who did not appreciate the art form (Giroux, Nealon 2011, 53). Inventing
Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester looks at an emergence of class hierarchy and what
separates high class opera from low class opera. In comparison, Storey s other article The Invention
of the English Christmas demonstrates a materialistic revolution that accompanied the industrial
revolutionin the

The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment In Western Europe
The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and
philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took
place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the
Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming
amount of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of
change specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such
change is apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and
throughout the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire
medieval world that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of
faith. As such, ideas that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers
subsequently murdered. After the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle
east, all this changed. Advances in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic
Geography. More importantly than the rediscovery of ancient geography was the beginning of
skepticism in Western Europe. No longer would the Church s word be taken on faith. The idea that
the physical world could be understood through the use of empiricism analytical thought was also
introduced. RenГ© Descartes even began to doubt his own existence

Essay 18 Reasons Why a Shopper Abandons their Shopping Cart
A judge pounding down the gavel declaring, GUILTY as charged, is unnecessary. You are guilty of
this, I am guilty of this, and in fact, every shopper is guilty. The crime we are all guilty
of...spending time shopping on a website, finding products and hitting the add to cart button, only
to not go through with purchasing those products. Instead, items stay in the shopping cartonly to
never find their way to a loving home.
That abandoned shopping cart is a lot like the island of misfit toys, in the Classic film, Rudolph the

If a website is experiencing a high percentage of shopping cart abandonment, or bounce rate, it s

not personal issues (although, sometimes this is the case).
Items to change for better a Shopping Experience:
Simplify the shopping experience, one of the reasons people abandon their carts is because the
website requires them to sign up or share too much information. People are in a hurry, especially if
they are trying to make a purchase via their smartphone.
Offer guest checkout sign up after the sale is made. There is a slight chance the shopper has already
purchased from the site, does have an account, but does not remember their password. Guest
checkout means that they can complete the transaction without going through the trouble of
resetting their original password. The shorter the sales process the better.

The spinning off the restaurant divisions, in my opinion, is a success for PepsiCo. Although Yum!
Brands has been a quite successful, thriving company with record setting growth and profitability, I
would still support the decision today. PepsiCo had too many oars in the water with the beverage
business, the snack business (Frito Lay) and the fast foodrestaurant business. It could not
successfully manage all the diversity it had acquired. I commend the management team s decision
(led by, then President/CFO, Indra Nooyi and now Chairman/CEO) (Fox News 2012) to cut a
highly potential part of its business off and to implement a strategy to focus on its main products
and their distribution. This strategy has proved to be the right move for this organization. Below is
a table which illustrates the fluctuations with the stock price from the first acquisition of Pizza Hut

Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis
Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge
University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of
transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that
they are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics
such as the bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future
authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world.
However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of
younger generations in his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on
individualism and transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom
was correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed
Ralph Waldo Emersons view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that
overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by
comparing it to current political events in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson
was very influential to not only authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be
inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could
be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real world connections
instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or even comprehending the
meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson separates society into two groups known as
Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and
understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society
without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and
do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will never be too late to find self
reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society.
When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves

Charles Dickens and William Marley s Beliefs in the...
William Marley grew up in London. The celebrated writer Charles Dickens often visited William s
father, a renowned and wealthy doctor with a shared interest in child welfare. Dickens loved
unusual names. He decorated his writings with them. At a party at the Marley home in 1843 he
promised to make his host s then uncommon surname a household word. In A Christmas Carol,
published that December, he named the main protagonist in the story for his friend. By New Years
Eve, the book had sold fifteen thousand copies, and Dickens had honoured his promise. Throughout
the United Kingdom, people spoke the names Scrooge, Cratchit, Fezziwig... and Marley.
Dickens believed that if all children, whatever their circumstance, could attend school, society
would benefit. The social message of A Christmas Carol inspired widespread enthusiasm for
universal education; enthusiasm which gained momentum throughout the Victorian era, even in far
distant corners of the Her Majesty s Realm.
William Marley followed his father into medicine, but never achieved the same success. By
1884 he toiled far from the culture and learning of London in a remote corner of the Empire. He
had little time to ponder social welfare or literary interests. At fifty years of age, guilt and worry
clouded his days. In Stanthorpe, where he first lived in Queensland, and then here in Port Douglas,
he and his wife had led active social lives. That lifestyle cost money. Now ill, and convinced he

HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY II:
THE REFORMATION AND MODERN CHURCH

The Azusa Street Revival was a historical Pentecostal revival meeting that occurred in Los
Angeles, California and is the beginning of the Pentecostal movement. It was run by William J.
Seymour, an African American minister. It started with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and proceeded
until about 1915. The revival was portrayed by euphoric spiritual encounters joined by miracles,
speaking in tongues, inter racial socialising during worship services. The members were criticized
by media and theologians for their behaviour as it was considered as outrageous and unorthodox,
particularly at the time. Today, the restoration is considered by historians to be the essential push
for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century. This paper will aim to analyze how history
may have unfolded if it had not happened, it will be examining the event and setting it in context
that how it has impacted the history of Christianity for the reformation and modern Church. It will
analyze how this event impacted the historic Pentecostal movement. Being born and bought up in
Christian Orthodox Church, for a long time I could not understand the real meaning of
Pentecostalism, but things changed dramatically in my life, and so did my theology about Church.

Summary Of The Dirty Little Secrets Of Getting A Dream Job
The present state of the American economy is one that has improved since the Great Recession,

difficult. Don Raskin in his book, The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting Your Dream Job, opens up
his ideology regarding this subject with a much more optimistic mentality. He argues that the

When I m applying for jobs or internships, it doesn t usually come to mind that there are probably
hundreds of other applicants looking for a similar job. Raskin argues that in order to be
successful at landing a job, you need to have something to catch the eye of the prospective
employer who is probably sifting through multiple resumes every hour. This involves having a
legitimate and well thought out cover letter, resume, and email letter note. Raskin even breaks
down the resume and what he looks for in applicants. The resume is single handedly the most
important part of the application process aside from the interview and what comes after, and he
breaks it down step by step in order for you to understand what it is you need to do. He even
emphasizes that the interest and activities portion of the resume is an often overlooked but
important part that tells the employers about the human being that s applying for the job. The best
part of the book, however, is the little anecdotes of people that Raskin actually interviewed. These
anecdotes are sometimes failures, successes, or somewhere in between. Understanding these
experiences helped me to understand what this really meant

Ethics In Call Of Duty
War is unforgiveable. Even to the novices and the arm chair commanders whose combat
experience does not extend past Call of Duty , it is clear that choosing one path over another can
mean the difference between life and death for oneself and one s unit. Sometimes there is no right
decision, and yet in others our own prejudices, fears, and emotions get in the way of the right
decision. While the former is often the well known reality of life that is seldom overcome, the
latter leads people to make the wrong decision when the right one is clear. The same can be said of
the unit from the Academy Award winning 1986 film Platoon that fell victim to their own
prejudices, fears, and emotions, eventually committing a number of warcrimes before the film was
through.
Despite the fictional nature of the film, Chris Taylor, played by Charlie Sheen, and the rest of the
soldiers in his platoon are forced to face not only their own ill advised actions, but whether or not
to report the illegal killing of a Vietnamese civilian. After Sergeant Elias, one of the platoon s squad

Apollo 7 Photographs Of Our Day
One of the great photographs of our day is one taken by Apollo 8 astronauts during the lunar
orbit. The photograph is called Earthrise. Inspiring as the first image of the earth was, it was not
the primary reason for space exploration. Apollo missions, beginning with Apollo 7 and ending
with Apollo 17, all had a specific purpose. Apollo 7 began with a primary mission. Apollo 7 was
the first manned mission in the Apollo program to be launched and was a test flight of the newly
redesigned module. During the eleven day flight, the spacecraft was run through a number of tests,
and systems operated as intended. The mission lasted 163 orbits with the crew being the first to

Signs Preceding The End Of The World Analysis
The novel Signs Preceding the End of the World by Yuri Herrera brings to light many issues faced
by immigrant women. The novel follows the young Makina in her quest to find and bring home her
brother from what she imagines to be a mystical far away land. While the novel focuses on the
challenges of immigration, the underlying meaning is much more complex. In Yuri Herrera s Signs
Preceding the End of the World, the common misconception that women cannot be the strong
characterin the novel is challenged. This is achieved by having the female protagonist, Makina, go
on a questto save her brother, be a vital individual in her community, and fight the misogynistic
society she lives in.
The literary review by Ryan Long describes Makina as a trustworthy,... Show more content on

This is due to Makina speaking three different languages, which is not very common for
someone in a first world country, let alone someone who lives in a rural village in Mexico. Due
to these skills, she is the town switchboard operator with her multi lingual capabilities making
her an invaluable asset to her community. The absence of Makina in the community would result
in the people of her village to have no way of communicating with the outside world. When
someone brings a cellular device to the village, Makina scoffs at the idea. He rounded up
everyone in the village and attempted to prove how the cell phone works and how Makina will
be out of a job shortly due to this great new invention. When the cellphones fail to work, Makina
responds Maybe you should have bought a few cell towers too? (Herrera 45). This is a big
moment in the novel as it shows how Makina has the intelligence to stand up for herself with just
a simple statement. In his critique Long mentions a specific quote from the text which is, You are
the door, not the one who walks through it (Herrera 18). To this quote he states: Makina s search
for her brother obliges her to violate this rule, but it is only when she dares to walk through a
number of doors, literal and figurative, that she reaches a definitive and enigmatic encounter with
herself. (Long). I agree with this statement, as Makina s journey is more about discovering herself
than saving her brother. Throughout the novel a change is noticed in Makina as she breaks her
rules. She becomes more independent and her intelligence is shown through the breaking of these
rules. By breaking these rules, it justifies every battle she has fought to become who she is. In
conclusion, by making the protagonist an intelligent immigrant female, Herrera proves that the
female can be the

dealing with other cities. There is a city named Tyre and Alexander wanted all the land but this
they didn t want to give up their land. The city of Tyre tried to stop him by building a wall but
that did not work. Alexander was very furious and this is a great disrespect to the city because

The movie 12 Angry Men is about a group of jurors that are trying to decide if a boy is guilty of
killing his father. Throughout the movie most of the jurors believe that the boy is guilty and
they believe he is guilty because these jurors are discriminating against the boy. They judge the
boy based on where he is from and his background rather than further discussing the evidence.
However one juror, juror eight, kept an open mind which promoted reason and he tries to show
this reason to the other jurors. He knows what it is like to be a boy at that age. His goal is to get

eight votes non guilty. The other jurors believe that the evidence given by the witnesses should
be enough to prove that the boy is guilty. They also refer to the boy s background. Juror seven
makes a statement that you could tell that the boy was a dangerous killer and the boy s record.
He mentions these things to try and convince the other jurors that they boy was guilty and there
was no need to further discuss the evidence. The jurors think the boy is dangerous because of
where he was raised. The boy was raised in a bad part of town where the jurors believed violence
was a way of life for people like him . These jurors did not have an open mind about the boy. They
do not want to look further into the evidence because they do not see the point in doing that. Some

My First Sight Of Amber Pithakoti
Judging someone from the first sight does not define who they are. However, my first sight of

arising regarding current health care issues, and what is expected of everyone. This triggered my
urge to interview him regarding nursing as a profession and job, and learn what it entails to be an
RN. Information generated from interviewing a professional is a great tool for bringing up a good
RN. Meeting Amber Pithakoti was one of the moments that changed most of my perceptions

Nursing is beyond a gentle touch. This phrase gave me the understanding that nursing requires
considerate exposure to all the life aspects. With that understanding, one can treat patients and
fellow medical professionals well. One gets to understand everything that affects their professional
life, and life outside the workspace.
His personable character and approachable nature displayed a lot of skills that are expected from
every professional nurse. His passion for traveling across the world can inspire healthcare
professionals to appreciate their jobs. This is a display of his capability to interact with people
from all walks of life either as fellow professionals, learners, or as patients. This fact is important
in the nursing career since sometimes patients, as well as employees, can prove to be difficult to
work with. One needs to be equipped with a variety of social skills and communication skills to be
able to handle them without bringing about any challenges.

Importance Of Solar Power
Solar Power This paper is going to be based on why should we use solar energy, how does it

the earth is still more than enough to power up our whole planet. We are very certain that we

The IEA (International Energy Agency) predicted in 2014 that in 2050, solar power will be
around 27% of electricity consumption around the world (16 from PV, 11 from CSP). It was
also predicted that solar power would be the biggest source of energy worldwide, and the most
and biggest solar power installations would be in China and India. Solar power technologies
started developing in mid 1860s when the scarcity of coal was beginning to be a concern to
people. However in early 20th century solar power would cease to flow due to the economy and
the utility of coal and petroleum. The use of solar power is being more visible and popular
across the world by annum. Just to give a perspective, in 1974 about only 6 homes in the United
States were entirely heated or cooled by solar power. However, it was predicted that by the end
of 2016 around one million homes in the United States will be fully solar powered. The cost of
installation of solar converters is one of the major issues for the society. Due to high costs of
installation, lots of people don t even consider have a solar source installed. However, people don
t usually go into deep analysis, but if you do get into it, you can notice that, yes, it is expensive to
install, but the electric bills will immediately drop, making this innovation totally worth the
investment. Solar power is a fully renewable source of power which does not lead to

Why Did The Atomic Bomb Develop
Since the beginning of time, the idea of nuclear energy to be effectively and efficiently used to
benefit our world today has always seemed as a surrogate source of energy. Elements such as,
Uranium, Plutonium, and more are being studied every day. But with the rise of World War 2 in
September 1st, 1939, America found a new use for nuclear energy. With the development of the
atomic bomb, or atom bomb, America wielded this source of power and used it as a weapon on
Japan. America unleashed the power of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, and Nagasaki,
Japan on August 6 and 9 of 1945. But how was America able to develop this bomb? And what
caused the development of it? Most importantly, How does the atom bomb work? It all begins with
a letter.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albert Einstein developed an equation for this process, E=mc^2. To summarize this equation,
energy is lost or produced when a change in mass occurs. So the process of nuclear fission begins
with a neutron. The neutron then strikes the Uranium nucleus, causing the Uranium nucleus to split
into two Uranium nuclei. By splitting the nucleus, it also produces more neutrons, and with those
neutron, it continues to split the Uranium nucleus. From this uncontrolled process of fission,
nuclear weapons can be made. This process is known as a nuclear chain reaction. The energy
released (exothermic reaction) from this chain reaction is what powered the atomic bombs. In
conclusion, the discovery of nuclear power was inevitable. Since World War 2, studies of nuclear
power continue to grow. The atomic bombs created by America revolutionized science today. But
based on what The Manhattan Project was able to accomplish in the 1940s, the atomic bomb must
have been further developed and weaponized, threatening our world today. On the other hand,
scientists have developed others ways to use fission to our advantage and develop a source of
energy. With that being said, one could only hope the nuclear power will be used for good and only

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders And The Outsiders
In the 1950 s everything in America was great it was a very illustrious decade in history. We
stood, summit of the world as the Prime of Britain commented. The US had the strongest,
uttermost powerful military at the time. Our economy was booming. Cars, food, and house
were more available than ever. Equally important, was Tulsa, Oklahoma, dubbed as America s
Most beautiful city. Tulsa s economy was booming as well. the oil business was successful.
After World War II America was great. But like most things you can t judge a book by its cover.
The education in America was worse than ever. Some kids wouldn t receive proper discipline.
And with that, They didn t know right from wrong. Just like both gangs in The Outsiders
especially the Socs. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis is having a hard life not
only did his parents died 8 months before. He is a part of the greasers, a gang of poor, middle to
lower class teens who live in the slums. Still, that doesn t matter because they are family. On the
other hand, and side of town are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get everything in
their heart s desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise, they are
criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are and how the
Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the traits that are perceived by
the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines them, making barriers, some people break the
barriers. Still, more people spend their life inside the living by definitionof who they are, assigned
by society. In The Outsiders, the Soc, who are criminals, are made not born because of the family
situation and their lifestyle. One of the Socs is Bob. Like most Socs, he was dealt the right cards
so to say, in life. He was, ....a good guy....he was a real person too, (Hinton 116). That meaning, he
had everything that he needed. Supporting parents, a house, and a legitimate future in their life
ahead. All of a sudden, his life change. His mother had a nervous breakdown. Instantly, the parents
spoiled Bob rotten. As Randy, another Socs noticed Bob s change, he states, he started to

The Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis
T.S. Eliot was born in 1888 and died in 1965. Eliot set new directions in poetry. His criticism
provided new judgements to guide assessments of poetry. In Eliot s critical work on poets and
poetry, he observed that the modern inclination is to put up with some degree of incoherence. So
long as the verse sounds well and presents striking and melodious imagery. In an age like ours
lacking common standards poets need to remind themselves that it is not sufficient to rely upon
those gifts, which are native to them, and which they exercise with ease. That good poetrymust
exhibit several qualities in proportion of which one is good sense. (Eliot) Some other famous
quotes are Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. (Eliot) and finally Human kind
cannot bear much reality. (Eliot)
Eliot s poem The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a dramatic monologue. I think the poem s
central themes include Prufrock s inability to act and his feelings of alienation. I think in the
beginning
T.S. Eliot may have chosen to present this epigraph in Italian because he wanted to keep his poem
at a high intellectual level and assumed many of his readers would know Italian. The epigraph
should alert to readers this poems sophistication, and should expect subtle literary devices and
scholarly allusions. The first two lines feelings are of a lovely romantic evening. Then line 3
with the image of a sick etherized patient, dramatically alters it. The feelings the evening evokes
are no longer lovely and romantic but dark and ominous. The metaphor developed in this stanza
is a cat compared to smoke. Also compared to that of an evening etherized in line 3 they are alike
because they both imply slow motion or paralysis. The effect of juxtaposing the actions of
taking of a toast and tea and having time for visions and revisions is interesting since eating is a
mundane activity, while having visions is a far more elevated one. The intellectual work of
visions is trivialized by being placed on the same level as taking of a toast and tea. I think the
character is fastidiously dressed and has thinning hair. Skinny arms and legs also. Indecisive and
disillusioned. He lacks energy to pursue his goals and dreams.

Scanlon And Wilkinson s Two Main Reasons For The...
Both Scanlon and Wilkinson give instrumental arguments against socio economic inequalities. First
both views are summarized, after which the main differences between their views is highlighted.
Scanlon gives five diverse reasons for the elimination of inequalities in societies (Scanlon, 1996: 2
5). The first reason is at base a humanitarian concern, for example to alleviate suffering. If some
people are living under terrible conditions, the gap between the rich and the poor provides the
opportunity to reduce the suffering of those people, without causing others to suffer a similar fate.
The second reason for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made
to feel inferior, for example through privileges of rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first main difference is that the argument Wilkinson gives is based on empirical data
analysis, while Scanlon s reasons are not. The second main difference is that we need to reduce
inequality in order to improve the average well being of our societies , because inequalities lead
to deteriorations in social relations, health and human capital according to Wilkinson, but
according to Scanlon we don t always need to intervene to reduce inequality. The force of the
first reason Scanlon gives for the elimination of inequalities fades away if the situation of both
rich and poor greatly improves, also if the difference between them is the same or has even
increased. The same goes for the third reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality: if inequality
doesn t give some people an unacceptable degree of control over the lives of other, then inequality
is allowed. Also the fourth reason for pursuing equality can be compatible with large inequalities,
it is only required that they result from a fair process. The last reason Scanlon gives in his article
might also be a fairly weak one. If it is assumed that other things equal, all individuals have equal
claims to welfare, then much depends on how many things there are that might not be equal. For
example, people ought to be equal in the levels of welfare they enjoy, except for differences in
welfare resulting from people s own free choices, which may also result in inequality. Only
according to the second reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality we always need to
eliminate the differences in question. The third main difference is that Scanlon s second reason
for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel inferior and
therefore people need to be protected against reasonable and undeserved feelings of loss of self
esteem, but according to Wilkinson that s not a reason for objecting inequality, though

Addressing Cultural Competence For Improving Healthcare...
Addressing Cultural Competence for Improving Healthcare Quality Improving diversity in health
care setting is important in patient care. Cultural competence is approach to enhancing healthcare
delivery that has been promoted broadly in recent years. By definition cultural competence in
health care describes the ability of systems to provide care to patients with diverse values, beliefs
and behaviors, including tailoring delivery to meet patients social, cultural, and linguistic needs

Cultural competence plays a significant role in health care delivery. There is a lack of cultural
competence in the U.S. heath care. Despite current effort to deal with the issue, the problem still
exist and many patients are suffering from it impact. Many people are not being able to get
adequate care due to the lack of communication, languages, beliefs, values, perspective, and
customs. Cultural competence barriers are critical in reducing health disparity. Those barriers
include: lack of diversity in the healthcare settings, lack of system of care that can address the needs
of various populations, inadequate communication between healthcare providers and patients of
distinct ethnic, racial, language, belief, customs, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Lately many
hospitals across the nation took the imitative to start promoting cultural competence by
implementing different programs that help both the patient and health care providers. Cultural
competence helps to improve access to high quality of care that responds to the need of the patients.
Lack of cultural competence between patients and healthcare providers can impact the outcome of
care provided. Furthermore, a lack of culturally sensitive care can compromise the quality of the
healthcare that the patient receives (Anderson, Scrimshaw, Fullilove, Fielding, Normand, 2003).
Healthcare providers have to understand they own worldviews and the patients, while avoiding
categorization of patients. In

  • 4. King Lear as a Commentary on Greed King Lear as a Commentary on Greed In Chapter 4 of a book titled Escape from Freedom, the famous American psychologist Erich Fromm wrote that Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction (Fromm 98). Fromm realized that avarice is one of the most powerful emotions that a person can feel, but, by its very nature, is an emotion or driving force that can never be satisfied. For, once someone obtains a certain goal, that person is not satisfied and continues to strive for more and more until that quest leads to their ultimate destruction. For this reason, authors have embraced the idea of greed in the creation of hundreds of characters in thousands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edmund declares that if this letter speed, / And my invention thrive, Edmund the base / Shall top the legitimate (1.2.19 21). When Gloucester enters and forces Edmund to turn over the forged letter, Edmund adds fuel to the fire by saying he has often heard Edgar pondering this wish. Gloucester gullibly believes him, and Edmund s display of greed begins. What begins as a simple plan to get all of his father s inheritance, becomes more and more complicated as Edmund becomes progressively greedier. When Edmund encounters Edgar in the first scene of Act II, Edmund makes Edgar leave and then injures himself so that he can tell his father that he was injured by his bloodthirsty brother. His blatant cunning becomes extremely obvious in a short exchange between himself and his father. Gloucester, after Edmund decided that some blood drawn on me would beget opinion of my more fierce endeavor (2.1.33 34), asks Edmund But where is [Edgar]? (2.1.40). Rather than answering how one might expect, Edmund chooses to focus attention on the made up battle and his injury, and therefore responds, Look sir, I bleed (2.1.41). This answer continues to demonstrate to the audience the amount of avarice that fills and continues to grow within Edmund. Near the end of the third act, Edmund s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Understanding The Trinity By Alister E.mcgrath Understanding the Trinity, by Alister E.McGrath Alister E. McGrath is a historian, biochemist, and Christian theologian from Ireland. A longtime professor at Oxford University, he now holds the Chair in Theology, ministry and education at the University of London. Among other of his writings are: Christianity s Dangerous Idea; In the Beginning; and The Twilight of Atheism. He is known for his work in historical theology, systematic theology and other writings on apologetics. Understanding the Trinity by Dr. McGrath is a book worth reading for those who want to learn more about the Trinity. Although having an apologetic formula, the message the author is trying to convey is not rooted on such. From the beginning, the author emphasizes the need for a personal encounter with God in order to validate its existence, something that can happen to anyone. McGrath further develops a number of models, which he assumes will help individuals create a conception of God. Using illustrations and models, the author tries to help the reader understand the limitations of fully understanding the nature of the divine, and the notion of Trinity. The book does not thoroughly explain the doctrine of the Trinity. What the author seems to convey is how to understand the Trinity itself, but the concept of it. The author explains that we as humans are incompatible to fully understand the reality of the trinity, which leaves us to look at the models that God has revealed to us in the Bible. If ... • 7. The Unbounded Reach of Rhetoric Essay The Unbounded Reach of Rhetoric In the year of 1938, during the Nuremburg Conference, a man stands up to deliver the closing speech. This speech is not particularly as well known or as significant as many of his other speeches, but the words of this thin and paunchy man are strong and resolute. He states, When the question is still put to us why National Socialism fights with such fanaticism against the Jewish element in Germany, why it pressed and still presses for its removal then the answer can only be: Because National Socialism desires to establish a true community of the people.... Because we are National Socialists, we can never suffer an alien race which has nothing to do with us to claim the leadership of our working people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Book One of the Persian Expedition, Clearchus, a general of Cyrus, handles a potential mutiny from the Greek mercenary soldiers when they become suspicious of Cyrus s motives. At first Clearchus tried to force his own soldiers to go forward, but they threw stones at him and at his baggage animals as soon as they attempted to make a start. Clearchus was very nearly stoned to death on this occasion (Warner 65). Realizing that force was not going to work, he appeals to the method of rhetoric by making a speech and having two of his men deliver a pre constructed speech. He coyly feigns loyalty to the soldiers while he simultaneously makes it seem that going against Cyrus would be impossible. Although still suspicious, the soldiers reluctantly decide to go with and fight for Cyrus. This scene depicts rhetoric overcoming brute force in the promotion of violence. Rhetoric is a form of action and without it many of the events in the novel would have either never occurred or gone quite differently. In the PanHellenic dialogues by Xenophon, the army is not only motivated to continue on in their endeavors but he also clears their conscious about committing barbaric acts. This can been seen when he addresses the army and says, But when we come to a place where we are given no opportunities to buy food, then, whether it is native country or Greek country, we take our own supplies and do this not out of wanton aggression, but from necessity (Warner 240). • 8. Good Versus Evil In The Dark Knight The Dark Knight (2008), directed by Christopher Nolan, demonstrates the idea of good versus evil. Batman is known as the protagonist, and Joker is known as the ultimate villain. The representation of crime in the film is seen from the actions of both characters. The film essentially depicts the act of deviance meaning, behaviour that violates social norms, including laws . In normality the government would have the greatest amount of power, but in the Gotham city, power is complex. There is minimal structure of law and order in Gotham city due to powerful people like Batmanand the Joker. Citizens of Gotham city can no longer fight for themselves in a world filled with supernatural powers. Therefore, the only hope that citizens have rest in the hands of Batman. Although Batman attempts to save Gotham city from Joker s criminal intentions. Batman, however, also plays a role in deviant activity while attempting to catch the Joker. Realistically, Batman violates the moral code due to destructive behaviour, and putting the lives of citizens at harm. He does not care for social norms, nor whether his acts are of legality. He is devoted to combat organized crime with Harvey Dent, a district attorney in Gotham city. Batman is in fact, the definition of crime, he understands but does not abide to individual rights and social contracts which make up the rule of law. In addition, the man behind Batman, Bruce Wayne also portrays a form of deviance by disguising himself as Batman. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Violence And Death In Romeo And Juliet Is Romeo and Juliet a Shakesperian play full of love at first sight or just rash and consequential decisions? In this play we meet two star crossed lovers who meet at a party on one night and then, almost instataneously, plegde themselves for each other and plan to marry, which then leads to six people dying including themselves. Romeo and Juliet should have taken it slow with their affairs in order to eliminate the violence and death that ensued from them falling in love, encourage a healthier road to peace in order to unite both families, and to better encourage a more joyful relationship, as mentioned by Friar Lurence. Juliet and Romeo s love at first sight isn t as sweet as it first seems, as it leads into their own and three other character s,Tybalt, Paris, Lady Montague and Mercutio, deaths. O Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio s dead!...This shall determine that .They fight; TYBALT falls (I,i,78 93). Mercutio is slain by Tybalt, which is then slain by Romeo. If Romeo had not been married to Juliet things might have turned out differently for both characters. But there was something about him that compelled her to keep trying, and poetry was what she was best at. Aurelia stood and grabbed her stylus and wax tablet from her bedside table. They went into the keep then into the hall. Sir Carnell went to the dais where the King and Queen sat. Aurelia took a seat at the small table that was set up below. My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that by knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that PMs know the conceptbut it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in which the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not known because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the EVM is not used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by: The project does not have requirements at all. The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget and the schedule. There are wrong estimations of working packages. The process of change management doesn t work or is ineffective. The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection). The incorrect progress of the project. I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my reflections why EVM wasn t used properly: The scope of Ice on Ice project was the upgrade of the infrastructure of the Call Centre. The victim held a party where there was a fallout which led to a bottle being thrown by the defendant which injured the victim. The defendant denies deliberately harming the victim and therefore it was left for a jury to decide upon whether the defendant was guilty or not guilty. In the case at hand the victim was accused of agitating and shouting at the offender before the throwing of the bottle. However, there has been much debate and criticism concerning victimology as it can provide arguments which blame victims for their fate. The fact subjects of crime are called victims even could imply passivity, or their cooperation. In early publications by Mendelsohn, it is clear that he has the intention to partially defend the offender and transfer the blame partially onto the victim for their actions, by drawing attention to the victims involvement .This attitude towards victimology can create an overlap of victims and offenders, resulting in victim blame. In a study carried out by Kris Henning and Robert Holdford in 2006, they investigate the attributions of blame in the crimes of 2,824 male probationers convicted of a domestic assault against a partner . Two thirds of the men attributed greater blame to partner characteristics, rather than their own. This is frequently seen in the case of sexual abuse cases, where the victim s characteristics are seen to be an attributing factor to their abuse. In a daily mail survey , it was found that a third of Britons believe a woman who acts flirtatiously is partially or completely to blame for being raped, with over a quarter believing that if a woman is wearing sexually provocative clothing or is drunk, they are partially to blame for it. The atom might have started on a different point of view on how the atom works. There were many different people who had many good and different ideas on how to use the atom and what it was used for. Democritus was one of many other philosopher and scientists that wanted to start the discovery of the atom. He got the name atom from a Greek word, atomos which means that everything is uncut table. The atom was discovered by Ernest Rutherford while he was doing an experiment in 1911 1919. Ernest Rutherford suggested at first that the atoms orbited around atomic the nucleus, just like the planets. Atoms are basic units of matter that are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons are particles that are found in the center of the atom, and the electrons are particles that are found in shells that orbit around the nucleus of the atom. The nucleus was discovered in 1911, by Ernest Rutherford and it is known for holding the protons and neutrons, and it s also in the middle of the proton. Atoms have many other things that are special and important to use, but one of the most useful thing is the Periodic Table, a table of the chemical elements arranged in order of the atomic order. The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil fuels for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known to be one of the foremost drivers of climate change. The aim is to point out that satire is a controversial subject and it is likely to stay that way for the time to come. I will also mention what satire can lead to and if it should have defined boundaries. When too much is too much? I will use the news of the Mayor of Amatrice, an Italian town, that sued the French magazine for aggravated defamation because of the cartoon about the recent Italian earthquake. • 21. Modern Culture Is Inevitable, By John Storey And The... Evolution of culture is inevitable, as shown in John Storey s articles, Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester and The Invention of the English Christmas. Within both articles, Storey showcases the transformation of culture, with the opera from low class entertainment to high class art and Christmas transforming from a religious centered event to a capitalism driven day. Both articles look at class hierarchy, the rise of materialism and accessibility. While both of Storey s articles are concerned with the evolution of cultural events, the opera emphasises class hierarchy, whereas the article on the progression of Christmas focuses on a materialistic revolution. Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester told how opera evolved from an event centred on entertainment to a form of art that could only be accessed by the bourgeois. Opera became a social construct, creating a class hierarchy. Original Venetian operas were considered as low cultureto the influential middle class as they were the popular culture at the time and attended by lower class people who did not appreciate the art form (Giroux, Nealon 2011, 53). Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire medieval world that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of faith. As such, ideas that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers subsequently murdered. After the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle east, all this changed. Advances in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic Geography. • 27. Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that they are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics such as the bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world. However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of younger generations in his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on individualism and transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom was correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed Ralph Waldo Emersons view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by comparing it to current political events in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson was very influential to not only authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real world connections instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or even comprehending the meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson separates society into two groups known as Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. The celebrated writer Charles Dickens often visited William s father, a renowned and wealthy doctor with a shared interest in child welfare. Dickens loved unusual names. In A Christmas Carol, published that December, he named the main protagonist in the story for his friend. By New Years Eve, the book had sold fifteen thousand copies, and Dickens had honoured his promise. Throughout the United Kingdom, people spoke the names Scrooge, Cratchit, Fezziwig... and Marley. Dickens believed that if all children, whatever their circumstance, could attend school, society would benefit. The social message of A Christmas Carol inspired widespread enthusiasm for universal education; enthusiasm which gained momentum throughout the Victorian era, even in far distant corners of the Her Majesty s Realm. William Marley followed his father into medicine, but never achieved the same success. By 1884 he toiled far from the culture and learning of London in a remote corner of the Empire. The revival was portrayed by euphoric spiritual encounters joined by miracles, speaking in tongues, inter racial socialising during worship services. The members were criticized by media and theologians for their behaviour as it was considered as outrageous and unorthodox, particularly at the time. Today, the restoration is considered by historians to be the essential push for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century. Summary Of The Dirty Little Secrets Of Getting A Dream Job The present state of the American economy is one that has improved since the Great Recession, but is still nevertheless an arduous battle zone for job hunting. Obtaining a job is difficult on its own, getting a good one is even harder, and obtaining one s own dream job is usually even more difficult. Don Raskin in his book, The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting Your Dream Job, opens up his ideology regarding this subject with a much more optimistic mentality. He argues that the economy is improving and that the market for jobs is indeed getting stronger, but college graduates are in a position where they become underemployed. Raskin argues that in order to be successful at landing a job, you need to have something to catch the eye of the prospective employer who is probably sifting through multiple resumes every hour. This involves having a legitimate and well thought out cover letter, resume, and email letter note. Raskin even breaks down the resume and what he looks for in applicants. The resume is single handedly the most important part of the application process aside from the interview and what comes after, and he breaks it down step by step in order for you to understand what it is you need to do. He even emphasizes that the interest and activities portion of the resume is an often overlooked but important part that tells the employers about the human being that s applying for the job. The best part of the book, however, is the little anecdotes of people that Raskin actually interviewed. These anecdotes are sometimes failures, successes, or somewhere in between. Even to the novices and the arm chair commanders whose combat experience does not extend past Call of Duty , it is clear that choosing one path over another can mean the difference between life and death for oneself and one s unit. While the former is often the well known reality of life that is seldom overcome, the latter leads people to make the wrong decision when the right one is clear. The same can be said of the unit from the Academy Award winning 1986 film Platoon that fell victim to their own prejudices, fears, and emotions, eventually committing a number of warcrimes before the film was through. Despite the fictional nature of the film, Chris Taylor, played by Charlie Sheen, and the rest of the soldiers in his platoon are forced to face not only their own ill advised actions, but whether or not to report the illegal killing of a Vietnamese civilian. The novel follows the young Makina in her quest to find and bring home her brother from what she imagines to be a mystical far away land. While the novel focuses on the challenges of immigration, the underlying meaning is much more complex. In Yuri Herrera s Signs Preceding the End of the World, the common misconception that women cannot be the strong characterin the novel is challenged. The absence of Makina in the community would result in the people of her village to have no way of communicating with the outside world. When someone brings a cellular device to the village, Makina scoffs at the idea. He rounded up everyone in the village and attempted to prove how the cell phone works and how Makina will be out of a job shortly due to this great new invention. When the cellphones fail to work, Makina responds Maybe you should have bought a few cell towers too? (Herrera 45). This is a big moment in the novel as it shows how Makina has the intelligence to stand up for herself with just a simple statement. In his critique Long mentions a specific quote from the text which is, You are the door, not the one who walks through it (Herrera 18). To this quote he states: Makina s search for her brother obliges her to violate this rule, but it is only when she dares to walk through a number of doors, literal and figurative, that she reaches a definitive and enigmatic encounter with herself. (Long). I agree with this statement, as Makina s journey is more about discovering herself than saving her brother. Throughout the novel a change is noticed in Makina as she breaks her rules. She becomes more independent and her intelligence is shown through the breaking of these rules. By breaking these rules, it justifies every battle she has fought to become who she is. Why Did The Atomic Bomb Develop Since the beginning of time, the idea of nuclear energy to be effectively and efficiently used to benefit our world today has always seemed as a surrogate source of energy. Elements such as, Uranium, Plutonium, and more are being studied every day. But with the rise of World War 2 in September 1st, 1939, America found a new use for nuclear energy. With the development of the atomic bomb, or atom bomb, America wielded this source of power and used it as a weapon on Japan. America unleashed the power of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, and Nagasaki, Japan on August 6 and 9 of 1945. But how was America able to develop this bomb? And what caused the development of it? Most importantly, How does the atom bomb work? It all begins with a letter.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albert Einstein developed an equation for this process, E=mc^2. To summarize this equation, energy is lost or produced when a change in mass occurs. So the process of nuclear fission begins with a neutron. The neutron then strikes the Uranium nucleus, causing the Uranium nucleus to split into two Uranium nuclei. By splitting the nucleus, it also produces more neutrons, and with those neutron, it continues to split the Uranium nucleus. From this uncontrolled process of fission, nuclear weapons can be made. This process is known as a nuclear chain reaction. The energy released (exothermic reaction) from this chain reaction is what powered the atomic bombs. In conclusion, the discovery of nuclear power was inevitable. Since World War 2, studies of nuclear power continue to grow. The atomic bombs created by America revolutionized science today. On the other hand, and side of town are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get everything in their heart s desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise, they are criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are and how the Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the traits that are perceived by the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines them, making barriers, some people break the barriers. Still, more people spend their life inside the living by definitionof who they are, assigned by society. In The Outsiders, the Soc, who are criminals, are made not born because of the family situation and their lifestyle. One of the Socs is Bob. Like most Socs, he was dealt the right cards so to say, in life. He was, ....a good guy....he was a real person too, (Hinton 116). That meaning, he had everything that he needed. Supporting parents, a house, and a legitimate future in their life ahead. All of a sudden, his life change. His mother had a nervous breakdown. Instantly, the parents spoiled Bob rotten. As Randy, another Socs noticed Bob s change, he states, he started to criminalize, all because he wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis T.S. Eliot was born in 1888 and died in 1965. Eliot set new directions in poetry. His criticism provided new judgements to guide assessments of poetry. In Eliot s critical work on poets and poetry, he observed that the modern inclination is to put up with some degree of incoherence. So long as the verse sounds well and presents striking and melodious imagery. In an age like ours lacking common standards poets need to remind themselves that it is not sufficient to rely upon those gifts, which are native to them, and which they exercise with ease. That good poetrymust exhibit several qualities in proportion of which one is good sense. (Eliot) Some other famous quotes are Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. (Eliot) and finally Human kind cannot bear much reality. (Eliot) Eliot s poem The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a dramatic monologue. I think the poem s central themes include Prufrock s inability to act and his feelings of alienation. I think in the beginning T.S. Eliot may have chosen to present this epigraph in Italian because he wanted to keep his poem at a high intellectual level and assumed many of his readers would know Italian. The epigraph should alert to readers this poems sophistication, and should expect subtle literary devices and scholarly allusions. The first two lines feelings are of a lovely romantic evening. Then line 3 with the image of a sick etherized patient, dramatically alters it. The feelings the evening evokes are no longer lovely and romantic but dark and ominous. The metaphor developed in this stanza is a cat compared to smoke. Also compared to that of an evening etherized in line 3 they are alike because they both imply slow motion or paralysis. The effect of juxtaposing the actions of taking of a toast and tea and having time for visions and revisions is interesting since eating is a mundane activity, while having visions is a far more elevated one. The intellectual work of visions is trivialized by being placed on the same level as taking of a toast and tea. I think the character is fastidiously dressed and has thinning hair. Skinny arms and legs also. Indecisive and disillusioned. He lacks energy to pursue his goals and dreams. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Scanlon And Wilkinson s Two Main Reasons For The... Both Scanlon and Wilkinson give instrumental arguments against socio economic inequalities. First both views are summarized, after which the main differences between their views is highlighted. Scanlon gives five diverse reasons for the elimination of inequalities in societies (Scanlon, 1996: 2 5). The first reason is at base a humanitarian concern, for example to alleviate suffering. If some people are living under terrible conditions, the gap between the rich and the poor provides the opportunity to reduce the suffering of those people, without causing others to suffer a similar fate. The second reason for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel inferior, for example through privileges of rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first main difference is that the argument Wilkinson gives is based on empirical data analysis, while Scanlon s reasons are not. The second main difference is that we need to reduce inequality in order to improve the average well being of our societies , because inequalities lead to deteriorations in social relations, health and human capital according to Wilkinson, but according to Scanlon we don t always need to intervene to reduce inequality. The force of the first reason Scanlon gives for the elimination of inequalities fades away if the situation of both rich and poor greatly improves, also if the difference between them is the same or has even increased. The same goes for the third reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality: if inequality doesn t give some people an unacceptable degree of control over the lives of other, then inequality is allowed. Also the fourth reason for pursuing equality can be compatible with large inequalities, it is only required that they result from a fair process. The last reason Scanlon gives in his article might also be a fairly weak one. If it is assumed that other things equal, all individuals have equal claims to welfare, then much depends on how many things there are that might not be equal. For example, people ought to be equal in the levels of welfare they enjoy, except for differences in welfare resulting from people s own free choices, which may also result in inequality. Only according to the second reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality we always need to eliminate the differences in question. The third main difference is that Scanlon s second reason for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel inferior and therefore people need to be protected against reasonable and undeserved feelings of loss of self esteem, but according to Wilkinson that s not a reason for objecting inequality, though ... • 53. Addressing Cultural Competence For Improving Healthcare... Addressing Cultural Competence for Improving Healthcare Quality Improving diversity in health care setting is important in patient care. Cultural competence is approach to enhancing healthcare delivery that has been promoted broadly in recent years. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cultural competence plays a significant role in health care delivery. There is a lack of cultural competence in the U.S. heath care. Despite current effort to deal with the issue, the problem still exist and many patients are suffering from it impact. Many people are not being able to get adequate care due to the lack of communication, languages, beliefs, values, perspective, and customs. Cultural competence barriers are critical in reducing health disparity. Those barriers include: lack of diversity in the healthcare settings, lack of system of care that can address the needs of various populations, inadequate communication between healthcare providers and patients of distinct ethnic, racial, language, belief, customs, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Lately many hospitals across the nation took the imitative to start promoting cultural competence by implementing different programs that help both the patient and health care providers. Cultural competence helps to improve access to high quality of care that responds to the need of the patients. Lack of cultural competence between patients and healthcare providers can impact the outcome of care provided. Furthermore, a lack of culturally sensitive care can compromise the quality of the healthcare that the patient receives (Anderson, Scrimshaw, Fullilove, Fielding, Normand, 2003). Healthcare providers have to understand they own worldviews and the patients, while avoiding categorization of patients. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
