indulgences themselves. The imagery of the second stanza is more gruesome than the first.

I attended the Beltway Poetry Slam which was held at the Busboys and Poets in Brookland NE.
During the poetry slam, I silently took notes in the back of the room and I made sure I was not
interrupting the scenery.
Before walking in, I didn t know what to expect. I choose to go to the Beltway Poetry Slam,
because I would have the opportunity to hear and feel the poets raw emotions. Before walking in, I

Becoming a father is a life changing experience. Most fathers will remember that one special day
for the rest of their lives, while other fathers say the day their child was born was the day their
life as they knew it was over. After sitting down and interviewing three different fathers who had
three very different experiences before and after child birth my eyes have been opened to the
multiple views, experiences, memories, and feelings these three gentlemen have experienced or
will soon experience. Mr. Snyder who is currently awaiting the birth of his first child in the spring
of 2015 was the first man I interviewed. Mr. Celso is the second man I interviewed. Mr. Celso and
his wife experienced a very emotional and nerve wrecking pregnancyand birth of their two 4 month
old twins. Lastly, Mr. Shipley was the last man I interviewed. Mr. Shipley is a father of a one year
old boy. Mr. Shipley s experience of the birth of his child was much different then the other two
gentlemen given that Mr. Shipley and the motherof his son are not in any type of relationship, nor
were they during their child s birth. Each of these men shared a lot of similarities as well as an
abundance of differences regarding their children and soon to be children.

John with the words sometimes you pick a dog, sometimes it picks you . The director creates
suspense as John initially rejects Red Dog s advances. The filmmakers further develop the
relationship when they show Red Dog s possessiveness. The movie Jaws is playing at the drive
in cinema and, like the presence of the shark, Red Dog s shadow looms on the screen. Next shot,
he is on the bonnet of car, staring in at the couple on a date. Later, the audience sees an unsettling
close up shot of red dog at Nancy s caravan window. The viewers have a definite sense that Nancy
is in Red Dog s territory. Some characters from the novel aren t mentioned in the film, like Ellen,
the lady who thought Red Dog had ticks. Yet, Thomas Baker is added as a pivotal character as
everyone shares their stories of Red Dog with him at the pub. The filmmakers have successfully
