Effects Of Kwanzaa On African Americans
Kwanzaa is a holiday that helps African Americans of all religions reconnect. This festival helps
African Americans recognize their struggles as people, and it reinforces the Seven Principles,
known as Nguzo Saba. It is based from December 26th to January 1st. This holiday is also based
on the African harvest celebrations. This holiday was first created in 1966, during the Civil Rights
Movement, by Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga. 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the holiday. Even after
50 years, not many African Americans actually celebrate the holiday. But this holiday is not only
for African Americans: everyone can celebrate it! The holiday Kwanzaa was created in 1966 to
help African Americans all around the world reconnect with each other. The

Swing Vote
FRP: Swing Vote
Introduction:
A swing vote is a particular vote which may affect any candidate in an election. Such votes are
usually sought after in elections, since they have such a large role in the outcome. Swing Vote is
the actual name of the movie we chose to write about since it pertains to much of what we have
discussed in class, such as how citizens have the right to vote. This movie also has the media itself
come alive in mostly every chapter. How it also affects the Electoral College and the battle
between conservatives and liberals, and of course presidential election nominees.
Film Summary: Swing Vote is about a story of an election that takes place in New Mexico. The
main character Bud Johnson who is played by Kevin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also explains how different news stations may have certain agendas which might help increase a
vote for a specific candidate and others which are vice versa. In the movie the media shined upon
everything that was going on. The dilemma between one man choosing the fate of the election
allowed for great news coverage. Once news spread about where the main character lived, it was all
over the news. The main character could not even look out his window without having a reporter
take a picture of him. Every movement he made was being watched from every corner, allowing for
every news station to report whatever they assumed he was thinking about or doing. Certain news
stations made him seem very incompetent while others used it more for ratings. Throughout the
entire movie the media was relentlessly accusing the main character without hesitation.
Concept 3: Electoral College According to the National Archives and Records Administration, the
Electoral College is a process of the United States Constitution. It was established by the founding
fathers as a compromise between election of the president by Congress and election by popular
vote. It also states that each state is allocated a number of electors equal to the number of its United
States Senators, which is always two,

Frederick Banting Essay
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to

flying in the air at a certain altitude and Frederick Banting was determined to figure out a way to
keep the pilots fully functional while flying. Later on, Frederick Banting discovered the pilots
were blacking out because they had difficulties handling the high speed and effects taken on their
bodies from the planes. The problem that the pilots were facing was G Force. To expand, This

Hatshepsut Research Paper
Hatshepsut was an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh who used powerful pieces of art and architecture
to justify her reign. Most Ancient Egyptians did not agree with her rule because she was a
woman so she had to act fast in order to secure her position and to be seen as a valid ruler. At first,
Hatshepsut as a co ruler on behalf of her stepson, Tuthmosis, until he was old enough to assume the
role of pharaoh. She astounded everyone by claiming the title of pharaoh for herself. She was
only the third female ruler in 3,000 years. In order to persuade the Egyptian people of her
legitimacy and her royal lineage, she used propaganda to make her seem as genuine as possible.
She made sure that all depictions of her resembled that of a male instead of a... Show more content

When thinking about ancient Egypt, we associate the word pharaoh with a male ruler.
Hatshepsut recognized this and used it to convey her legitimacy. All depictions of Hatshepsut
show her as resembling that of a male rather than that of a female. Her female characteristics
were suppressed and replaced with characteristics associated with males. She was depicted with
broad shoulders and a false beard because it was a symbol of a king and hence a symbol of
power. The hieroglyphs on the statue identify her as female, so she was not trying to make
people believe she was a male. By representing her bodily figure more similar to males, people
would think of her as more powerful and respectful. We know the only reason that pharaohs
would kneel is if they would be in the presence of a god. Historians can infer that the sculpture on

gods so a god would directly pass by Hatshepsut. She is holding two jars as a sort of offering to a
god. Once a year there was a ritual involving a sculpture of the god Amun re. It is important to note
that to the Egyptians, statues were embodiments of the person being depicted so this statue was
believed to be the god Amun re. Annually the sculpture was taken from the temple in Thebes on the
eastern side of the Nile and

A Violent Society Causes Domestic Violence Essay
People who are close to one another need to trust each other. We should trust our parents not to
hurt us, and to give us what we need to grow. When someone is abused, the trust is broken.
Domestic violence is the use of physical force within a home in any form of abuse. Abuse can be
a whole range of physical behaviour, slapping, hitting, beating, or using weapons to hurt someone.
It includes verbal and emotional abuse, where someone is constantly insulted and made to feel sad
and worthless. It can also include rape and sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is when someone forces
another to have sexual intercourse or do other sexual things against their will. Another form of
abuse is total control where one adult makes all the decisions for another... Show more content on

Widespread belief that women were intellectually inferior to men led most societies to limit women
s education to learning domestic skills. Well educated, upper class men controlled most positions of
employment and power in society. Traditionally, female family members existed only in terms of
their relationships to men. As daughters, subject to the control and whim of fathers, women
represented a means of economic or political gain through marital arrangements. As wives, they
became their husbands property, and symbols of power and status. Violence against women served
to coerce their acquiescence in this scheme and perpetuate subservience to male relatives. Legally
permitted abuse of women continued to exist in many Western cultures until the late nineteenth
century. Early Roman societies deemed a wife the property of her husband and therefore subject
to his control. According to early Roman law, a man could beat, divorce, or murder his wife for
offenses committed by her which belittled his honour or threatened his property rights. Roman
society considered enforcement of such rights of control essentially a private matter, and thus
failed to subject the husband to either public scrutiny or disapproval. Both the Old and New
Testament attest to the belief in early teachings in the obedience of women. Indeed, Eve s creation
from the rib of Adam provided an excuse for

Acer Inc, the leading marketer of notebook and desktop PCs
Case 1 3
Acer Inc.
Acer Inc. is a leading marketer of notebook and desktop PCs.
The company, which posted sales of $11.3 billion in 2006, also produces other products such as
flat screen monitors and personal digital assistants. As Taiwan gained a reputation as the tech
workshop of the world, Acer was able to become Taiwan s number one exporter by manufacturing
and marketing computers sold under its own brand name. Acer also produced equipment on an
original equipment manufacturer (OEM) basis for well known global companies such as IBM,
Dell, and Hitachi. As company founder, chairman, and CEO, Stan Shih built Acer Inc. into one of
Taiwan s most successful companies.

That should enable Acer to move a lot of hardware.
As Acer Group CEO J.T. Wang noted recently, China and
Taiwan share not just the same language and culture, but a lot of our Taiwanese suppliers are
already there. We can take our brand global by building a strong home market.
Still, Acer faces tough competition in China. Lenovo, a local mainland brand, dominates with about
one third of the market.
Wang believes Acer is well positioned to overtake Lenovo and other local mainland firms to
become the leader in PC sales in
China. Shih believes Acer will have an advantage compared to local PC makers because Acer is
more global. At the same time,
Shih is convinced his company will be able to compete with betterknown global companies that
are entering China because Acer is more local than they are. Acer s international identity gives the
company access to advanced business practices, technology, and economies of scale that
companies like Lenovo do not have. We have more technology. . . . We have more global
exposure. . . . We have more international know how. . . . We can gradually gain more market share,
Shih says.
Shih admits that sales of Acer s desktop PCs in China have developed more slowly than he
expected. He attributes this to
Acer s poor brand recognition in the mainland. However, Shih made a strategic bet that the
company s notebook computers would help Acer establish a quality name and high end image.
Meanwhile, Lenovo

The Radical Groups Of Thinkers
Throughout the recent centuries, biologists, psychologist, and sociologists have been franticly
researching a single question, which if solved, can help us decode our every behavior and
decision. Why exactly are we the people we are today? This question has sparked many passionate
debates, one of them being; Nature (Genetics, biological traits,) versus Nurture (Environmental
effects, learning behavior). There are two radical groups of thinkers in which strictly oppose each
other, Nativists and Empiricist and with a common interest in mind, their perspective of how a
being develops behaviorally and cognitively differ drastically with very few to none similarities.
This theory provides the most insight to the mystery that is ourselves.... Show more content on

On the other hand, we have not the slightest proof that behavioral traits are passed down through
genetics, which leads us to believe that our next best answer would consist of environmental
stimuli influencing our development of the mind. An example of an environmental stimuli
would be social interaction, in which we all show signs of change from our fetal stages to the
day we die. During this time span of time we form our own unique individuality and behavior.
There are many different perspectives of psychology in which psychologists try to explain the
reasoning behind humanistic behavior and thinking. There are two extremist groups of
psychologists that strictly oppose each other when it comes to the Nature vs. Nurture theory.
Nativists, psychologists who adopt strong hereditary reasoning or Nature theory, believe
humans are a product of evolution and our inner and external traits as well as our behavior are
due to our very complex genetic form. The Nativists believe our individuality is a result of the
mixed genetic code, which we get from both of our parents. This code is solely different from
any other being in the world. Nativists strongly believe every reaction we have and behavior we
exhibit is part of our genetic code, which still remains a mystery today. These thoughts are so
radical that after decades of research and experimentation, it is still strongly believed that our
genetic code is the proper

Genophilosophy Essay
Genophilosophy
ABSTRACT: Contemporary progress in life sciences, particularly in genetic engineering, is
changing our concept of human being and a whole series of other philosophical and common
notions. The conventional idea of subject will no longer be the final reference for philosophical
thinking, since even the subject qua biological or psychological structure will enjoy a high degree
of unpredictability. The results of gene technology require reinterpreting such concepts as
reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. This paper focuses on the question of
freedom, where freedom means the capacity to deliberate and choose between different alternatives
of action. We hold that the issue of freedom is relevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene technology requires dealing with, and reinterpreting terms such as reproduction, individuality,
history, freedom and subjectivity. Many people consider 1989 as the symbolic turning point, when
the epoch of history and society started to be replaced by the epoch of biotechnology, genetic
engineering or most recently evolution technology. We can say, that we are at the beginning of a
genetic epoch (genepoch) or as Manfred Eigen (Steps Towards Life, Oxford University Press,
1992) calls it the era of molecular biology . In this vision of history, having solved the disputed
questions of society in the practice and theory of democracy, mankind begins a new historical
period, the genetic period, where even the terminology of history will be a completely new kind.
Avant garde philosophers develop a new approach for investigating the genetic structure of all
traditional problems instead of further exploring the society, language, knowledge or physical
world. The protagonists of this new paradigm think, that after such kind of leading principals of
philosophical discussions as democracy , socialism , subject and causal sciences , there will be a
new leading idea, which by the analogy of neuronalism and cognitivism, should be called genetism.
It is not our goal here to review all the possible (medical, social, etc.) implications, which could be
involved in genetic research and in the development of

Nerds And Geek Culture Has Been Very Prominent Through The...
Nerds and nerd culture has been very prominent through the decades. From the 1970s to the
present they have been represented through movies, TV shows and live events; such as, Comic
con. They have predominantly been depicted as featuring characteristics in which other
individuals usually stray from in order to better fit in with society; for example, wearing braces,
dorky glasses, geeky hair cut, and usual nerd attire. Furthermore, nerds have been depicted in
popular media as individuals who lack popularity and possess an above average intelligence. The
character of Steve Urkel is a good representation of nerds in popular media because he displays
almost all of the nerdy characteristics such as the nerdy glasses and clothing. Furthermore,... Show

But, modern society has taken nerd culture and appropriated it to be seen as something cool and
trendy. Popular culture has adapted and appropriated nerd culture. Super hero movies, and
television have taken nerd culture into a status were it is the popular culture. The Big Bang
Theory is a prime example of nerd culture being appropriated by pop media. The actors in the
show play nerds when they are not necessarily ones, and they popularize the culture in which they
are appropriating. A similar situation would be Weird Al Yankovic; he is a musician who parodies
music by popular artists and makes the original music into something comical. This is apparent by
the music video White Nerdy in which he is appropriating nerds and their culture. Influences such
as these have caused the popularity of nerd culture to become a widespread phenomenon. The
appropriation of nerd culture by modern mainstream culture has removed the negative appeal of
nerd culture; thus, having a positive affect which nerd culture more enticing to individuals. Nerd
culture has been predominant within the recent decades and such had gradually begun to receive a
great following. But, the way people see nerd culture today is vastly different then what it was seen
as before the 21st century. Modern culture appropriates nerd culture and enhances it into something
in which the individuals are not necessarily ousted or shunned by society. Instead modern culture
has taken nerd

Tibetan Ritual Deer Mask Dance
The Elements of the Masked Dancer The Tibetan Ritual Deer Mask Dance is a rarity to most
other dances. As most dances, the stage starts out pitch black dark and the spotlight turns directly
onto the dancer. This performance is shown by only one dancer yet four people are on the stage as
well. The other four people on the stage were preforming live musicfor the masked dancer which is
rare. The music started out at a slow beat that was felt directly into the placement of the dancers
footsteps as he makes his way to center stage. As the steady beat helped travel the dancer to the
center of the stage, the musicians then switched to syncopated rhythms. As the syncopated rhythms
would play, the performer would become more rigid in his movements. The dancer would use his
wrists in sharp motions as if jerking his hands to the new beat. Also, the dancer would start off by
rolling his neck in circles and this motion would transition into quick turns. The turns would start
off in the squatting position and end up all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between leaps, spins, and basic walking, without balance, this performance could have become
messy and not effective. Before the stage goes dim, the overall stage is shown once more. The
backdrop of an old village from the time the dance might have been performed in was shown. The
backdrop and scenery might have helped wrap the audiences head around the purpose of this
masked deer dance. As the dancer performed with a deer mask, this could allude to be seen as a
ritual thanking the gods for the animal that was provided. Just like the deer, no beat of the song
was missed or unused by the dancer. Every beat was heard by the masked performer and used to
his full extent to show the story of Tibetan Rituals. What was normally performed regularly in a
village, is now being performed on a stage to inform the audience and to keep traditions

Thompson, in his chapter excerpt Public Thinking, from the book Smarter Than You Think: How

This is extremely relevant to the topic of the audience effect. This evidence is used to persuade us
that the audience effect does exist for the better, just like when an author posts a blog for the entire
world to view. Thompson used a survey of mathematicians about the question of multiples. He
argues that with more communication, we can use better teamwork to discover solutions more
efficiently. The respondents were asked if they did the same work as another person unknowingly.
31% agreed to this statement and noted that if they worked together, they think they would have
completed the task more efficiently. I question its credibility because of the anonymity of the
surveyors and the ambiguity of the methods. However, I find the opinions shared by the
mathematicians very valuable because they are one of the best at what they do. I do find this
evidence sufficient because professionals were interviewed. Thompson includes this survey
because it clearly supports his claim. I find this extremely relevant to because it is about the topic
of interconnections and can be strongly, positively correlated to the lack of communication before.
Thompson uses anecdotes that are easily relatable and have a great expression of feelings. One of
them is about the experiences of Ory Okolloh, a Kenyan law student studying in the United States,

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the
training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a
vision for the program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook
in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson
or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it
through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more

Mark and Todd should consider the monthly payment and the ability of the company to repay the
loan. If S S Air can afford to pay a higher payment, they can pay down the principal faster.
Assuming the bank will not charge a fee for an early payoff; S S could save money and avoid the
risk associated with the balloon payment option or interest only loan. By taking the 20 year loan
option and making additional principal payments to decrease the interest owed, S S could pay off a
20 year loan in 158 months. The following table illustrates the option presented above:
If Mark and Todd choose this option, they could budget accordingly each month. If they are
struggling they could forgo the additional principal payment during any given month. By choosing
this option, S S Air could save money and have flexibility in the mortgage payments. References

The Simpsons Worst Running Tv Series Of All Time
One of the longest running TV series of all time is the Simpsons. The Simpsons is an animated

will indicate the motorists that gate is going to be closed.
The program logic is written in embedded c program by using Kiel micro vision environment. The
program written is then converted in the hex code after simulation and burned onto the
microcontroller using FLASH micro vision.
This project can also be developed further to have a buzzer sound in order to alert the public while
the gate is closing. A control room can also be provided at the railway crossings for constant
monitoring of the equipment to reduce the chances of errors and to make this user friendly.

Global Warming And Its Effects On The Earth s Environment
Green Practice Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average
temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently
changing the Earth s climate (Goguen). Day to day, fossil fuels are being burned; humans are
deforesting land, driving cars, creating and demolishing buildings, and much more; these activities
result in the release of greenhouse gases (Goguen). Architects are now being awakened by global
warming issues and are planning ideas to alter their designs to reduce carbon emissions for future
buildings. Correspondingly, colleges are beginning to prepare architecture students on how to
design buildings that are carbon neutral, and educating them on the... Show more content on

Furthermore, architects can incorporate off site renewable energy into their work, like wind
energy to avoid the use of fossil fuel energy. Most of California s latest buildings have already
incorporated the carbon neutral strategy, and it has now been made a standard for all innovative
projects (Challenge). The 2030 Challenge has encouraged many companies to start designing eco
friendly and with the more attention the issue gets, the more successful the world will be in
reversing global warming. Enlightening the architecture field on how buildings are polluting the
world is the first step to solving global warming matters. Change is often times a difficult task and
most people are not willing to alter their habits. Although without the change of design to green
practices, architects will just keep hurting the world and its climate. Because architects have been
designing for many years, it will be hard for the experts to convert their work into zero carbon
designs (Budds). Each firm should inform their architecture team about the 2030 Challenge and
plan to start acting now. The next step should be eliminating previous building designs and
converting the carbon neutral designs to a standard (Mazria). There is now an online tool created
for architects to give them the best information and illustrate new ideas for their designs so the
transition is not as problematic, it is called the 2030 Palette

Naomi Wolf
I found the film of the lecture given by Naomi Wolf to be exceptionally interesting and thought
provoking. The beginning of her discussion surrounding the topic of beauty and the reason
women are seemingly so obsessed with it was presented in a way that I have never considered
myself. The idea that the media and culture surrounding women is one of a purposeful
preoccupation with beauty and the conceived notions of what that means is very striking. To
continue the discussion about her idea surrounding women and girls and their preoccupation with
beauty standards it is easy to segue the conversation into the dangers of this preoccupation. The
numerous repercussions of this preoccupation with unrealistic beauty standards is manifested in
both physical and mental effects. One of the effects that was discussed to a large extent is eating
disorders, which affects both the physical and mental aspects of a woman s (or man s) well
being. The effects of eating disorders, in particular anorexia which is categorized by restrictive
and obsessive eating behaviors, can be catastrophic. As Naomi Wolf discussed in a person story
about her own eating disorder... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

women from all walks of life. Speaking in the realm of the United States alone it is possible to
say that any woman is who is continuously exposed to mass media, especially from an early age,
will be in one way or another affected by this beauty myth . To what extent the effect is I believe
does vary between ethnicities. This ideal beauty is often portrayed as overwhelmingly blonde and
caucasian so I could see how this would cause even more of a negative impact among women of

Jeep Research Paper
Personal Question
Why do I keep my Jeep when it keeps breaking down on me? That is the question that I have
asked myself multiple times over the summer. To this day, I have put more time, effort and money
into my Jeep than it is actually worth. So why continue to restore this beautifully ancient beast?
Well, the answer is actually very simple; I love working on it. When I was first told that I was
getting an automobile, I expected to go out and hand pick one that I deemed suitable for my
everyday tasks. To my surprise, my father pretty much narrowed the selection process down for
me, providing me with a specific list of Craigslist adds that he had compiled during his work day.
After browsing this selection, I had settled on a 1987 light blue Jeep Wrangler, with a soft top and a
sport roll cage. This jeep came with the legendary fuel injected 4.0 Liter, 6 cylinder engine, aptly
nicknamed the Tank , due to its sturdy construction of cast iron. The fact that we found this jeep
for under five thousand dollars was astonishing to me, so I immediately jumped on the opportunity
presented to me. When my father and I had finally settled on this Jeep, we drove to savannah to
inspect it ourselves. When we arrived at the seller s house, we ... Show more content on

says Ariel, thy charge exactly is performed; but there s more work. p.521 l.238 This portrays how
Prospero takes advantage of Ariel by giving her false hope of freedom. This also shows, that
Prosperois manipulative to get his way towards Ariel.Despite him being so harsh towards Ariel we

becoming Prospero personal servant. Ariel, thy charge exactly is performed; but there s more

Towards the end of the story, Prospero begins to get light hearted and begins to forgive. This

begins to notice the severity of his actions and how he took Ariel by force. Prospero then

The Importance Of A Team For A Dysfunctional Team
This essay will discuss and evaluate what a team is and how a team can function successfully, it
will also explore the factors that cause a team to be effective or ineffective and the barriers
contributing to a dysfunctional team.
Teamwork is a basic but important part of nursing which preregistered nurses are expected to
become part of and will eventually perform some form of leadership. Effective teamwork and
leadership skills are necessary qualities for a nurse to develop and are important to ensure patient
safety (West, 2012).
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2010) state that to work effectively as part of a
team you must work cooperatively and respect the skills, expertise and contributions of your
colleagues and you must be willing to share your skills and experience for the benefit of your
colleagues. This is important in the healthcare setting as patients rely on an efficient, well
motivated team to take care of them. Therefore, this essay will also discuss leadership,
discriminating between good and bad, and it will also consider the concept of followership.
Furthermore, team building and organisational behaviour will be considered using relevant theories
and methods.
A team is a basic functioning unit within an organisation and is defined as a group of people
organised to work independently and cooperatively, meeting the given requirements by achieving
the same goals and purpose (Heathfield, 2014). Frias Martinez et al (2004) supports this definition

Outline For Harrison Bergeron
The story Harrison Bergeron is about a society in the future where people with beauty, strength, or
intelligence are given handicaps in order to decrease these abilities they were born with so they
are able to be brought down to a level that would make everyone equal to each other. Due to this,
one Harrison Bergeronstood against the government by removing his handicaps as to regain his
freedom from them, all while being watched on television by George and Hazel Bergeron. The
book Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegutis a story that teaches readers that you should never let
anyone take away your freedom from you.
One example of when you can that freedoms shouldn t be taken away in this story is on page 2.
During this scene, Hazel suggests that George takes his handicaps off, but he responds by telling
her that he has become used to them, and they ve become a part of him. Although he says they no
longer bother him, Hazel also mentioned to George all of a sudden you look so tired. This shows
that even though the people being affected were subliminal to it, they were having their freedoms

Style Of Filmmaking In The Killing, By Stanley Kubrick
Stanley Kubrick is known for his distinct style of filmmaking in such films like 2001: A Space
Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange. While those films do showcase the sense of auteurship from
Kubrick, his earlier works are more conventional when compared to the 1950s style of filmmaking.
The Killing is a 1956 noir filmand Kubrick s third feature film, and was produced by United
Artists with a $200,000 investment and $320,000 budget from James B. Harris. This was also the
first collaboration of producer James B. Harris and Kubrick, and would later on produce two more
films. Unlike famous noir films like Double Indemnity, The Killingdid not become instantly
successful, but it became more noteworthy in the retrospect as Kubrick became an established
filmmaker in his later films. Like almost every Kubrick film, The Killing was based on another
material, and in this case, a 1955 low budget novel titled Clean Break by crime novelist Lionel
White. The movie was adapted by hardboiled author Jim Thompson, in which Kubrick was also
credited, and when compared to the book, Thompson did expand the roles of the characters and
motivations. The movie does retain the non linear structure of the book, and it also adds voiceover
to explain the time change. Between the two, the film did become more popular than the book,
especially when the book s title is often changed to The Killing in retrospect.

instance in the 3rd issue (2009 2010) the poet Katie Blakely in her poem Dissection, depicts a
love story in which the narrator is speaking to her lover and telling him what exactly she loves

Also in the most recent issue this theme of love is consistent. In the poem Avant le deluge by

There were many obstacles in Spence s way of proving the Jones s proclaimed innocence and

Spence ordered some polygraph tests to be run and ballistic evidence to be collected but each

Analysis Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Christian Lous Lange once said Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Ray
Bradbury, would agree with this quote completely because in his story, The Veldt , he shows how
too much technology can affect families by using conflicts between a set of parents and their
children. Technology can be obsessive, and can cause people to become unfocused at what s at
hand. In this story, Bradbury uses a failing familyunit, obsession of materials, and lack of
discipline to show that not reprimanding kids can have grave consequences. Through several of
the disrespectful actions made by the kids, Bradbury is portraying that the lack of respect is
leading to the failing of a family unit. Peter looked at his shoes. He never looks at his father
anymore, nor his mother. When people respect one another, they make eye contact while
speaking, Peter does not even have enough respect for his dad to look him in the eye. On what.
Peter yells this at his dad when he does not hear what he wants. The fact that he cannot make eye
contact with his dad, and also yell at him like that, shows the amount of hate he has for his
father. This lack of respect is further portraying how there s no family unit because they act as
individuals instead of a whole. Ray Bradbury also uses Peter and Wendy s obsession with their
home, especially their nursery, to show what can happen if people spoil their kids along with no
discipline. ... tie my own shoes, brush my own teeth, comb my hair, and give myself a bath?
This is Peter complaining about having to do things on his own that is house usually does for
him. Peter saying these things is a perfect example of how spoiled these children are. They
screamed and pranced and threw things. They yelled and sobbed and swore and jumped at the
furniture. Peter and Wendy are doing these things when the parents shut down the kid s main
obsession, the nursery. Them acting like this, and showing no respect for their other things,
along with Peter not being able to do anything on his own perfectly portrays how spoiling kids is
bad thing to do. When parents spoil their kids, they grow up to be mean and have no respect for
anyone or anything. Discipline plays big roles in people s lives, and

Harlem Renaissance And Its Influence On African-American...
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all, African

African American and American culture forever. Their music, jazz, transcended the racial divide.
Jazz, created in New Orleans, traveled to Harlem, New York, marking the birth of the musical side

Responsibilities Of HACCP And The Food Safety Management...
Responsibilities
You must put in place and implement a food safety management system to ensure the food you
provide is safe to eat. Think about what might go wrong with the food that you sell and what you
must do to ensure it is safe for your customers. Procedures must be in place to manage food safety
hazards in your workplace. Everything must be written down, updated when necessary and kept so
that they can be checked by the local authority.

What is HACCP?
HACCP is a system that identifies where hazards may arise in the food production process, by
putting procedures into place to prevent the hazards from occurring.

performed badly. The interview started with the sharing of some information... Show more content

However, once the initial opening questions were completed, nerves quickly settled, this was
partly due to the fact that the interview technique allowed for myself to ask the interviewee to
expand on certain points. Therefore, pressing focus not on to my delivery but the actual details
and explanations of the interviewees answers. In the evaluation of the interview, I would say
that I produced well executed links between the athlete s verbal answers and his answers
produced in TOPS 2, whilst also avoiding any reliance on the TOPS 2 results by withholding
some information and seeing if the interviewees answers matched up with the TOPS 2. However,
I felt my nerves were unfortunately allowed to impact my initial interviewing prowess, which led
to possible opportunities at the beginning where the athlete could have elaborated on certain
points, being missed. The interview as a whole I feel went well. I gained a variety of information
about the athlete, which included pieces that I could have not otherwise learnt purely from
analysis the TOPS 2 scores. In hindsight, it was never going to be the perfect example of how to
conduct yourself as an interviewer, in the context of presenting the correct balance between set
questions and questions that delve for more detail. These questions could have also had a stronger
relationship to future events. Although I briefly touched on his immediate next match, I could have
had the athlete expand on why he knew he would be using imagery and which other performance
factors would be present. In the future, my interview technique will be supported by a larger
number of set questions and therefore, I feel this would cause a positive impact on my nerves
previous to the interview.

Essay on Norwegian Business Culture
Norwegian Business Culture
In contrast to the indirect, roundabout language common in much of Asia, Latin America and the
Middle East, Norwegians typically use direct straightforward language. They tend to be blunt and
honest about their business ideas and feelings. However, most Norwegians are somewhat less direct
than Danes and Germans. For instance, when not really interested in a particular deal, they may be
reluctant to say so bluntly. In this they are similar to many British negotiators.
Reserve
Although a warm and friendly people, most Norwegians have a reserved communication style,
compared to Latin Europeans, Latin Americans, Arabs, and North Americans. Whereas people from
more expressive cultures employ numerous vigorous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Touch Behavior
There is little touching in business situations except for the handshake. Avoid arm grabbing and
backslapping. Visitors from expressive, high contact cultures should not misinterpret Norwegian
reserve as coldness or arrogance.
Eye Contact
Like many Northern Europeans and North Americans, Norwegians normally employ moderate gaze
behavior, ie alternately looking their counterparts in the eye and then looking away. This may
confuse Arabs and Latins, who are accustomed to strong, steady eye contact. On the other hand,
Norwegian gaze behavior may confuse many Asians. Negotiators from these cultures are used to
soft, indirect eye contact, and equate the Scandinavian gaze with staring, which is regarded as rude,
hostile behavior.
Making Appointments
Visitors should have confirmed appointments. Although references and introductions are useful
anywhere in the world, you can also contact Norwegian companies directly by telephone, fax or
mail to make an appointment. Intermediaries are much less important than in Asia, Latin America
and the Middle East.
Terms of Address
Although Norwegians usually address each other rather informally and use first names. However,
when introduced for the first time, address your counterpart by Mr or Ms and their surname Ms
Jensen. Wait for your local counterpart to suggest switching to first names. Male visitors should
not be surprised if they are addressed by their

Understanding The Piezoelectric Behavior Of Ferro-Electrics
Ferro electrics are an important class of materials which posses excellent electro mechanical
coupling behavior cite{jayendiran2012modeling}. These materials have been used in sensors,
actuators, biomedical and naval applications for several years. These materials behave linearly
under low electric fields and mechanical stresses, but show nonlinearity at higher electric fields and
mechanical stresses; see the review articles
cite{kamlah2001ferroelectric,landis2004non,huber2005micromechanical}. Several experiments
have been conducted and reported in the literature to understand the nonlinear behavior of
piezoelectric materials

$1 3$ piezo composites with piezoelectric rods (one dimension) embedded in a passive polymer
matrix (three dimension) are attractive due to their tunable acoustic impedance and excellent tailor
made electromechanical properties cite{topolov2008electromechanical}. Since the matrix
materials are viscoelastic in nature, the influence of matrix in the overall electro mechanical
response of piezo composites have been reported cite{aboudi2005hysteresis,
muliana2010micromechanical, shindo2010nonlinear}. Studies related to the influence of polymer
matrix on the electro mechanical response of piezo composites have been performed
cite{jayendiran2012modeling, aboudi2005hysteresis, odegard2004constitutive}. A two level
thermodynamic based micromechanics theory for domain switching in $1 3$ piezo composites
have been proposed to predict the orientation dependency of the electro mechanical coupling
behavior of the composite system cite{zhao2009investigation}. Literature review reveals that $1
3$ type composites are good alternatives for bulk PZT ceramics. Hence, it is necessary to
understand the electro mechanical behavior of different fiber volume fractions
cite{jayendiran2012modeling}. Incorporation of a more ductile epoxy matrix causes considerable
creep in the system under constant electric fields and mechanical stresses.

The Cuban Missile Crisis
Explanation: Like what it is said. North Korea can and will be a threat, and we need to keep a
close watch on them before it is too late. Everybody needs to be ready. Kim Jong Un looks like an
innocent man but behind closed doors, that is where he is most dangerous. He can be planning and
preparing an attack that nobody even know.
Topic Sentence: The Cuban missile was a crazy time. It happened some fifty years ago when John
F. Kennedy was president. It was when one of U.S. spy plane caught Soviet Union trying to sneak
some nuclear missiles into Cuba that was ninety miles off the United States coast. Soon enough
president Kennedy had to talk to one of their leaders about what are they doing with the missiles
and if they do not remove it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Topic Sentence: the other reason to why not all nations have access to nuclear weapons, is
because there are some countries that we know a little or not at all about what they are doing
with the nuclear weapons. Like in Iran, we do not know if they are making more nuclear weapons
or using it for medical purposes. Iran sixth president Mahmound Ahmadinejad, said that his country
has been a member of International Atomic Energy Agency for over thirty three years now.
Ahmadinejad said that the by law all agency guarantees him to use nuclear energy for peaceful
purposes only, but everybody knows that nuclear energy can be used the wrong way also. For what
it seems, there are possibilities that there are ways to make nuclear energy into bombs or just
weapons of mass destruction.
Evidence: This is why we should worry about Iran s missiles. Just last fall Washington and
European capital been involved in a long time bout with Iran nuclear diplomacy. In Washington,
they hope that there hopes will run high and the effort will help the threat posed by Tehran s
atomic ambitions. The diplomatic deal is not only to limit Iran s capability to build nuclear
weapons but to also deliver to them. United states thinks that Iran is not really a threat to us but
according to U.S. intelligence assessments, Iran already have the most powerful missile in the
Middle East. They also have ballistic missiles that can be a

Medea And Agamemnon Research Paper
The Greek tragedies Medea by Euripides and Agamemnon share similar character traits displayed
through Medea and Clytemnestra which ultimately lead to their own downfall. Clytemnestra
slaughtered her own husband and his foreign concubine seeing vengeance towards her husband
Agamemnon for sacrificing their daughter. Medeapoisoned King Creon, a princess, and murdered
her own children to seek justifiable revenge against Jason; her husband. Both women are seen to
resemble strength and power. The two women portray a behavior unlike any other woman of their
time period which ultimately leads to their downfall. The two plays both exemplify similar
characteristics such as the role of women, passion/power, and vengeance.
It is known that the role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is seen acting out on justifiable revenge against her husband, Agamemnon. As seen in
Medea, the drive to accomplish a task once the goal is set, Clytemnestra possesses the same
qualities here ...my mind never sleeps, and with the help of the gods I will set things right (912
913). After Agamemnon sacrificed their daughter, Iphigenia; it was only right for Clytemnestra
to seek justice for the heinous act. By the child s Rights I brought to birth...I sacrifice this man
(1459 1461). For the sake of Iphigenia, Clytemnestra it is only right to serve justice upon her
daughters behalf and feels she treated her husband the same way he did his deities. Clytemnestra
is a very deceptive character. She despises being regarded or treated as a woman, yet is able to
make advancements using her femininity. She is known as the woman [that] maneuvers like a man
(13). Men were known to fear women who embodied masculine tendencies. The traits were
regarded as unnatural during the ancient times. Clytemnestra was enraged about the fact she did
not have the same regard as men. This put her on the edge to deny her femininity and overcome
the men that surround her in order to gain masculine powers. Medea, on the other hand accepted
that she was indeed a woman, but crossed the line of her feminine limitations set by ancient Greek
times. She did this to prove she possessed more

Descriptive Essay On My House
A bang on my door interrupts my quiet slumber and jolts my body into a sitting position. I rub
my blurry eyes and swing my legs over the side of my bed, trying to move forwards. My foot gets
caught in the fluffy blanket and I tumble to the ground. Gahh! My head hits my side table when I
bolt into a sittingposition. My hand reaches up and rubs my head whilst my other hand balances
my glasses on the bridge of my nose. Come downstairs and get dinner! My cousin s rough,
irritable voice comes through my door. I ll be down in a minute. My voice comes out quiet and
hoarse, making it sound like I need a large glass of water. I open my closet doors and scan over
the contents before picking out a pair of boots, a white, chunky sweater, a black scarf, and some
thick jeans. With a click, my door unlocks and swings open to reveal the bathroom door in front
of me. The cold hardwood floor makes my feet tingle whilst I cross into the even colder bathroom.
Although the room is cold, I feel warm inside with excitement while I change into my clothing and
flash an indeterminate smile at the mirror. A second click sounds when I open the door and head
to the large kitchen. I almost make it without any accidents only to break the streak by tripping on
air and face planting into the maroon colored wood. Mara, one of my two bratty kin, remarks, Can
you not go 5 minutes without hurting yourself? Her statement is met with a half hearted laugh and
grin whilst pushing myself up and walking

Features And Functions Of Information Systems Essay
Features and functions of information systems
Features
Data
Data needs to be inputted into an information system so it can be managed and processed. Once
processed, the end product is information, this is called an output. Data is generated by all parts of
a business but can also be received via external sources. Data must be accurate or else the output
information will be wrong.
People
People are involved in obtaining data and processing it to create information for specific purposes
relevant to the business. Staff need to have the correct training and skills to get the most out of
information systems and make them effective employees to get information and process it properly.
Hardware
The hardware used in information systems must be capable of using software used in the business,
as well as handle the grand amount of data and information processed and stored on it as well. The
hardware must be up to date to enable storage and use of data and information in the future.
Software
Software used by the business and its staff must have the correct features and functionality needed
to produce and use information created by the business. It must also have the correct features to
enable staff to correctly and efficiently do their job such as analysing and processing data and
reports.
Functions of information systems
Information systems perform functions such as gathering input data, storing it, processing it and
then producing output information. They also control this

Mental Disorders In The Film The Big Lebowski
Before the 2000s a large portion of media portraying those with mental disorders was inaccurate
and often times they were depicted as being nuisances to society. Psycho (1960) features Anthony
Perkins as Norman Bates as the psycho and antagonist of the film. Though the title would suggest
that Bates is in fact a psychopath, someone with abnormal or violent social behavior though he
actually has symptoms associated with schizophrenia. The Big Lebowski (1998) co star John
Goodman plays Walter Sobchak, the unwanted sidekick to Jeff Bridges s Jeffrey the Dude
Lebowski. Walter is a colorful character in the film to say the least his a large, imposing, gun
owning, conservative Vietnam veteran who seems to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...

Silver Linings Playbook (2012), Patrizio Pat Solitano, Jr, played by Bradley Cooper, is shown
to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Though Cooper s acting of Pat is more grounded than
other interpretations of the disorder. The conflict within himself is cured by the end of the film
when Pat falls in love with and starts dating Jennifer Lawrence s character, Tiffany. In reality,
bipolar disorder cannot be cured but instead can be treated. In the movie, actor Bradley Cooper
plays a man with bipolar disorder who is being released from a psychiatric hospital. He soon
connects emotionally with a quirky young woman, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who has
struggled with her own mental health issues, largely brought on by her husband s
death.Psychologists and other mental health professional are touchy about how they are
depicted in movies. So are doctors, police officers and lawyers. Given the widespread influence
of movies, any profession is naturally going to be invested in whether its members are portrayed
positively and accurately. After all, misrepresentations could potentially lead to public relations
problems. In the case of psychotherapy, it might mean that someone will not seek help because
they have developed a negative perception of counseling. Or in the case of mental disorder,
inaccurate depictions could increase the stigmatization of various kinds of difficulties and
diagnoses. However, as I point out in my book, The Psychology at the Movies, there is a danger in
psychologists being too uptight and literal in commenting about Hollywood movies. Film makers
are not in the same business as psychologists. Their job is to tell dramatic, compelling stories, and
sometimes they distort reality in order to accomplish this task.

Such votes are usually sought after in elections, since they have such a large role in the outcome. Swing Vote is the actual name of the movie we chose to write about since it pertains to much of what we have discussed in class, such as how citizens have the right to vote. This movie also has the media itself come alive in mostly every chapter. How it also affects the Electoral College and the battle between conservatives and liberals, and of course presidential election nominees. Film Summary: Swing Vote is about a story of an election that takes place in New Mexico. The main character Bud Johnson who is played by Kevin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also explains how different news stations may have certain agendas which might help increase a vote for a specific candidate and others which are vice versa. In the movie the media shined upon everything that was going on. The dilemma between one man choosing the fate of the election allowed for great news coverage. Once news spread about where the main character lived, it was all over the news. The main character could not even look out his window without having a reporter take a picture of him. Every movement he made was being watched from every corner, allowing for every news station to report whatever they assumed he was thinking about or doing. Certain news stations made him seem very incompetent while others used it more for ratings. Throughout the entire movie the media was relentlessly accusing the main character without hesitation. Concept 3: Electoral College According to the National Archives and Records Administration, the Electoral College is a process of the United States Constitution. It was established by the founding fathers as a compromise between election of the president by Congress and election by popular vote. It also states that each state is allocated a number of electors equal to the number of its United States Senators, which is always two, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At first, Hatshepsut as a co ruler on behalf of her stepson, Tuthmosis, until he was old enough to assume the role of pharaoh. She astounded everyone by claiming the title of pharaoh for herself. When thinking about ancient Egypt, we associate the word pharaoh with a male ruler. Hatshepsut recognized this and used it to convey her legitimacy. All depictions of Hatshepsut show her as resembling that of a male rather than that of a female. Her female characteristics were suppressed and replaced with characteristics associated with males. She was depicted with broad shoulders and a false beard because it was a symbol of a king and hence a symbol of power. The hieroglyphs on the statue identify her as female, so she was not trying to make people believe she was a male. By representing her bodily figure more similar to males, people would think of her as more powerful and respectful. We know the only reason that pharaohs would kneel is if they would be in the presence of a god. Historians can infer that the sculpture on the path of the courtyard of Hatshepsut s mortuary temple. • 6. A Violent Society Causes Domestic Violence Essay People who are close to one another need to trust each other. We should trust our parents not to hurt us, and to give us what we need to grow. When someone is abused, the trust is broken. Domestic violence is the use of physical force within a home in any form of abuse. Abuse can be a whole range of physical behaviour, slapping, hitting, beating, or using weapons to hurt someone. It includes verbal and emotional abuse, where someone is constantly insulted and made to feel sad and worthless. It can also include rape and sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is when someone forces another to have sexual intercourse or do other sexual things against their will. Widespread belief that women were intellectually inferior to men led most societies to limit women s education to learning domestic skills. Well educated, upper class men controlled most positions of employment and power in society. Traditionally, female family members existed only in terms of their relationships to men. As daughters, subject to the control and whim of fathers, women represented a means of economic or political gain through marital arrangements. As wives, they became their husbands property, and symbols of power and status. Violence against women served to coerce their acquiescence in this scheme and perpetuate subservience to male relatives. Legally permitted abuse of women continued to exist in many Western cultures until the late nineteenth century. Early Roman societies deemed a wife the property of her husband and therefore subject to his control. According to early Roman law, a man could beat, divorce, or murder his wife for offenses committed by her which belittled his honour or threatened his property rights. Roman society considered enforcement of such rights of control essentially a private matter, and thus failed to subject the husband to either public scrutiny or disapproval. Both the Old and New Testament attest to the belief in early teachings in the obedience of women. Indeed, Eve s creation from the rib of Adam provided an excuse for ... • 8. The Radical Groups Of Thinkers Throughout the recent centuries, biologists, psychologist, and sociologists have been franticly researching a single question, which if solved, can help us decode our every behavior and decision. Why exactly are we the people we are today? This question has sparked many passionate debates, one of them being; Nature (Genetics, biological traits,) versus Nurture (Environmental effects, learning behavior). There are two radical groups of thinkers in which strictly oppose each other, Nativists and Empiricist and with a common interest in mind, their perspective of how a being develops behaviorally and cognitively differ drastically with very few to none similarities. This theory provides the most insight to the mystery that is ourselves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, we have not the slightest proof that behavioral traits are passed down through genetics, which leads us to believe that our next best answer would consist of environmental stimuli influencing our development of the mind. An example of an environmental stimuli would be social interaction, in which we all show signs of change from our fetal stages to the day we die. During this time span of time we form our own unique individuality and behavior. There are many different perspectives of psychology in which psychologists try to explain the reasoning behind humanistic behavior and thinking. There are two extremist groups of psychologists that strictly oppose each other when it comes to the Nature vs. Nurture theory. Nativists, psychologists who adopt strong hereditary reasoning or Nature theory, believe humans are a product of evolution and our inner and external traits as well as our behavior are due to our very complex genetic form. The Nativists believe our individuality is a result of the mixed genetic code, which we get from both of our parents. This code is solely different from any other being in the world. Nativists strongly believe every reaction we have and behavior we exhibit is part of our genetic code, which still remains a mystery today. These thoughts are so radical that after decades of research and experimentation, it is still strongly believed that our genetic code is the proper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The conventional idea of subject will no longer be the final reference for philosophical thinking, since even the subject qua biological or psychological structure will enjoy a high degree of unpredictability. The results of gene technology require reinterpreting such concepts as reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gene technology requires dealing with, and reinterpreting terms such as reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. Many people consider 1989 as the symbolic turning point, when the epoch of history and society started to be replaced by the epoch of biotechnology, genetic engineering or most recently evolution technology. We can say, that we are at the beginning of a genetic epoch (genepoch) or as Manfred Eigen (Steps Towards Life, Oxford University Press, 1992) calls it the era of molecular biology . In this vision of history, having solved the disputed questions of society in the practice and theory of democracy, mankind begins a new historical period, the genetic period, where even the terminology of history will be a completely new kind. Avant garde philosophers develop a new approach for investigating the genetic structure of all traditional problems instead of further exploring the society, language, knowledge or physical world. The protagonists of this new paradigm think, that after such kind of leading principals of philosophical discussions as democracy , socialism , subject and causal sciences , there will be a new leading idea, which by the analogy of neuronalism and cognitivism, should be called genetism. It is not our goal here to review all the possible (medical, social, etc.) implications, which could be involved in genetic research and in the development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the 1970s to the present they have been represented through movies, TV shows and live events; such as, Comic con. They have predominantly been depicted as featuring characteristics in which other individuals usually stray from in order to better fit in with society; for example, wearing braces, dorky glasses, geeky hair cut, and usual nerd attire. Furthermore, nerds have been depicted in popular media as individuals who lack popularity and possess an above average intelligence. Popular culture has adapted and appropriated nerd culture. Super hero movies, and television have taken nerd culture into a status were it is the popular culture. The Big Bang Theory is a prime example of nerd culture being appropriated by pop media. The actors in the show play nerds when they are not necessarily ones, and they popularize the culture in which they are appropriating. A similar situation would be Weird Al Yankovic; he is a musician who parodies music by popular artists and makes the original music into something comical. This is apparent by the music video White Nerdy in which he is appropriating nerds and their culture. Influences such as these have caused the popularity of nerd culture to become a widespread phenomenon. The appropriation of nerd culture by modern mainstream culture has removed the negative appeal of nerd culture; thus, having a positive affect which nerd culture more enticing to individuals. The other four people on the stage were preforming live musicfor the masked dancer which is rare. The respondents were asked if they did the same work as another person unknowingly. 31% agreed to this statement and noted that if they worked together, they think they would have completed the task more efficiently. I question its credibility because of the anonymity of the surveyors and the ambiguity of the methods. However, I find the opinions shared by the mathematicians very valuable because they are one of the best at what they do. I do find this evidence sufficient because professionals were interviewed. Thompson includes this survey because it clearly supports his claim. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility and further ... By taking the 20 year loan option and making additional principal payments to decrease the interest owed, S S could pay off a 20 year loan in 158 months. The following table illustrates the option presented above: If Mark and Todd choose this option, they could budget accordingly each month. If they are struggling they could forgo the additional principal payment during any given month. By choosing this option, S S Air could save money and have flexibility in the mortgage payments. The beginning of her discussion surrounding the topic of beauty and the reason women are seemingly so obsessed with it was presented in a way that I have never considered myself. The idea that the media and culture surrounding women is one of a purposeful preoccupation with beauty and the conceived notions of what that means is very striking. To continue the discussion about her idea surrounding women and girls and their preoccupation with beauty standards it is easy to segue the conversation into the dangers of this preoccupation. The numerous repercussions of this preoccupation with unrealistic beauty standards is manifested in both physical and mental effects. One of the effects that was discussed to a large extent is eating disorders, which affects both the physical and mental aspects of a woman s (or man s) well being. To this day, I have put more time, effort and money into my Jeep than it is actually worth. So why continue to restore this beautifully ancient beast? Well, the answer is actually very simple; I love working on it. When I was first told that I was getting an automobile, I expected to go out and hand pick one that I deemed suitable for my everyday tasks. To my surprise, my father pretty much narrowed the selection process down for me, providing me with a specific list of Craigslist adds that he had compiled during his work day. After browsing this selection, I had settled on a 1987 light blue Jeep Wrangler, with a soft top and a sport roll cage. This jeep came with the legendary fuel injected 4.0 Liter, 6 cylinder engine, aptly nicknamed the Tank , due to its sturdy construction of cast iron. The Importance Of A Team For A Dysfunctional Team This essay will discuss and evaluate what a team is and how a team can function successfully, it will also explore the factors that cause a team to be effective or ineffective and the barriers contributing to a dysfunctional team. Teamwork is a basic but important part of nursing which preregistered nurses are expected to become part of and will eventually perform some form of leadership. Effective teamwork and leadership skills are necessary qualities for a nurse to develop and are important to ensure patient safety (West, 2012). The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2010) state that to work effectively as part of a team you must work cooperatively and respect the skills, expertise and contributions of your colleagues and you must be willing to share your skills and experience for the benefit of your colleagues. This is important in the healthcare setting as patients rely on an efficient, well motivated team to take care of them. While those films do showcase the sense of auteurship from Kubrick, his earlier works are more conventional when compared to the 1950s style of filmmaking. The Killing is a 1956 noir filmand Kubrick s third feature film, and was produced by United Artists with a $200,000 investment and $320,000 budget from James B. Harris. This was also the first collaboration of producer James B. Harris and Kubrick, and would later on produce two more films. Unlike famous noir films like Double Indemnity, The Killingdid not become instantly successful, but it became more noteworthy in the retrospect as Kubrick became an established filmmaker in his later films. Like almost every Kubrick film, The Killing was based on another material, and in this case, a 1955 low budget novel titled Clean Break by crime novelist Lionel White. The movie was adapted by hardboiled author Jim Thompson, in which Kubrick was also credited, and when compared to the book, Thompson did expand the roles of the characters and motivations. The movie does retain the non linear structure of the book, and it also adds voiceover to explain the time change. Ray Bradbury, would agree with this quote completely because in his story, The Veldt , he shows how too much technology can affect families by using conflicts between a set of parents and their children. Technology can be obsessive, and can cause people to become unfocused at what s at hand. In this story, Bradbury uses a failing familyunit, obsession of materials, and lack of discipline to show that not reprimanding kids can have grave consequences. Through several of the disrespectful actions made by the kids, Bradbury is portraying that the lack of respect is leading to the failing of a family unit. Peter looked at his shoes. He never looks at his father anymore, nor his mother. When people respect one another, they make eye contact while speaking, Peter does not even have enough respect for his dad to look him in the eye. On what. Peter yells this at his dad when he does not hear what he wants. The fact that he cannot make eye contact with his dad, and also yell at him like that, shows the amount of hate he has for his father. This lack of respect is further portraying how there s no family unit because they act as individuals instead of a whole. Ray Bradbury also uses Peter and Wendy s obsession with their home, especially their nursery, to show what can happen if people spoil their kids along with no discipline. ... tie my own shoes, brush my own teeth, comb my hair, and give myself a bath? What started out as a class assignment for the Detroit based College for Creative Studies has become a full time job making 6,500 coats a year. She realised that the jacket was only a Band Aid for a larger systemic problem of homelessness. So she began employing single parents who have been homeless, providing them with a skill, a job and self empowerment. Detroit SOUP What started as a small group of individuals trying to improve their community using their combined social capital became potluck style monthly microgranting dinner supporting community projects in Detroit. SOUP showcases four projects that support Detroit based projects, attendees make a suggested donation of $5, they listen, connect and vote on the project they believe is most worthy. ... • 39. Pet Industry Analysis Industry Description and Outlook Based off an article Miami Herald in 2014, dog grooming and boarding businesses make around $100,000+ annually. With this information, the market share for one of these companies would be .0017% market share, while the higher end businesses in the pet services industry make $1,000,000+ annually which translates to a .017% market share. I did get a chance to speak to a representative from the PetParadise Resort and Day Spa which said that they make an estimated $70,000 $80,000 per year. Based off this research we can expect to make at least $70,000 a year. Therefore, in five years we should make at least $350,000 and in 10 years 700,000. • 40. Semi-Structured Interview Analysis The interview followed a semi structured interview design. The adoption of this technique not only allowed multiple questions that would delve into the athlete s thoughts but it also brought about the ability for probing questions to be asked. Therefore, enhancing the chances of gathering a higher volume of information conjoined with more detailed explanations as to why the athlete thought he used certain techniques. Throughout the interview it quickly became evident that the athlete was focused on winning. Therefore, pressing focus not on to my delivery but the actual details and explanations of the interviewees answers. In the evaluation of the interview, I would say that I produced well executed links between the athlete s verbal answers and his answers produced in TOPS 2, whilst also avoiding any reliance on the TOPS 2 results by withholding some information and seeing if the interviewees answers matched up with the TOPS 2. However, I felt my nerves were unfortunately allowed to impact my initial interviewing prowess, which led to possible opportunities at the beginning where the athlete could have elaborated on certain points, being missed. The interview as a whole I feel went well. I gained a variety of information about the athlete, which included pieces that I could have not otherwise learnt purely from analysis the TOPS 2 scores. In hindsight, it was never going to be the perfect example of how to conduct yourself as an interviewer, in the context of presenting the correct balance between set questions and questions that delve for more detail. These questions could have also had a stronger relationship to future events. Although I briefly touched on his immediate next match, I could have had the athlete expand on why he knew he would be using imagery and which other performance factors would be present. In the future, my interview technique will be supported by a larger number of set questions and therefore, I feel this would cause a positive impact on my nerves previous to the interview. ... • 41. Essay on Norwegian Business Culture Norwegian Business Culture In contrast to the indirect, roundabout language common in much of Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, Norwegians typically use direct straightforward language. They tend to be blunt and honest about their business ideas and feelings. However, most Norwegians are somewhat less direct than Danes and Germans. For instance, when not really interested in a particular deal, they may be reluctant to say so bluntly. In this they are similar to many British negotiators. Touch Behavior There is little touching in business situations except for the handshake. Avoid arm grabbing and backslapping. Visitors from expressive, high contact cultures should not misinterpret Norwegian reserve as coldness or arrogance. Eye Contact Like many Northern Europeans and North Americans, Norwegians normally employ moderate gaze behavior, ie alternately looking their counterparts in the eye and then looking away. This may confuse Arabs and Latins, who are accustomed to strong, steady eye contact. On the other hand, Norwegian gaze behavior may confuse many Asians. Negotiators from these cultures are used to soft, indirect eye contact, and equate the Scandinavian gaze with staring, which is regarded as rude, hostile behavior. Making Appointments Visitors should have confirmed appointments. Although references and introductions are useful anywhere in the world, you can also contact Norwegian companies directly by telephone, fax or mail to make an appointment. Intermediaries are much less important than in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Terms of Address Although Norwegians usually address each other rather informally and use first names. However, when introduced for the first time, address your counterpart by Mr or Ms and their surname Ms Jensen. Wait for your local counterpart to suggest switching to first names. Iran sixth president Mahmound Ahmadinejad, said that his country has been a member of International Atomic Energy Agency for over thirty three years now. Ahmadinejad said that the by law all agency guarantees him to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes only, but everybody knows that nuclear energy can be used the wrong way also. For what it seems, there are possibilities that there are ways to make nuclear energy into bombs or just weapons of mass destruction. Evidence: This is why we should worry about Iran s missiles. Just last fall Washington and European capital been involved in a long time bout with Iran nuclear diplomacy. In Washington, they hope that there hopes will run high and the effort will help the threat posed by Tehran s atomic ambitions. The diplomatic deal is not only to limit Iran s capability to build nuclear weapons but to also deliver to them. Though Cooper s acting of Pat is more grounded than other interpretations of the disorder. The conflict within himself is cured by the end of the film when Pat falls in love with and starts dating Jennifer Lawrence s character, Tiffany. In reality, bipolar disorder cannot be cured but instead can be treated. In the movie, actor Bradley Cooper plays a man with bipolar disorder who is being released from a psychiatric hospital. He soon connects emotionally with a quirky young woman, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who has struggled with her own mental health issues, largely brought on by her husband s death.Psychologists and other mental health professional are touchy about how they are depicted in movies. So are doctors, police officers and lawyers. Given the widespread influence of movies, any profession is naturally going to be invested in whether its members are portrayed positively and accurately. After all, misrepresentations could potentially lead to public relations problems. In the case of psychotherapy, it might mean that someone will not seek help because they have developed a negative perception of counseling. Or in the case of mental disorder, inaccurate depictions could increase the stigmatization of various kinds of difficulties and diagnoses. However, as I point out in my book, The Psychology at the Movies, there is a danger in psychologists being too uptight and literal in commenting about Hollywood movies. Film makers are not in the same business as psychologists. Their job is to tell dramatic, compelling stories, and sometimes they distort reality in order to accomplish this task. ...
