Essay On Book
Writing an essay on the topic "Essay on Book" can prove to be a challenging task, primarily due
to the broad spectrum of ideas and perspectives one can explore within this subject. The
difficulty lies not in the scarcity of information but rather in the abundance of it. The sheer
volume of literature, genres, and historical contexts related to books can be overwhelming,
making it challenging to streamline and focus on a specific aspect.
To craft a compelling essay, one must navigate through various dimensions, including the
historical evolution of books, their cultural significance, the impact of digitalization on reading
habits, or even the psychological and emotional connections readers form with their favorite
books. Balancing depth and breadth while ensuring coherence and relevance throughout the
essay adds an extra layer of complexity.
Furthermore, expressing personal insights and interpretations about the role of books in one's life
or society demands a delicate balance between subjectivity and objectivity. The challenge is not
only to present well-researched facts and analysis but also to weave in a personal voice that
resonates with the reader.
The intricacy of this task is compounded by the need for effective communication and
organization of ideas. A successful essay on books requires a coherent structure that guides the
reader through a logical progression of thoughts. This involves skillful transitions between
paragraphs, a clear thesis statement, and the ability to synthesize information in a way that
maintains the reader's engagement.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "Essay on Book" demands a thoughtful and strategic
approach. It requires the writer to navigate a vast sea of information, balance objectivity with
subjectivity, and present ideas in a clear and organized manner. However, overcoming these
challenges can result in a rewarding exploration of the multifaceted world of books.

Breastfeeding v Formula Essay examples
Globally, less than 40% of infants under six months of age are exclusively breastfed.
Breast milk not only has disease fighting substances to protect your baby from
illnesses, but it also is pack full of all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs.
This is why the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding
for at least the first six months of life, and to continue for as long as the mother and
baby are willing and able. Breastfeeding is not only beneficial to your baby, but also
yourself. Breastfeeding is by far the best feeding option for your baby.
When you think of feeding your baby, you have two options: breast milk or formula. I
m sure when you think of breastfeeding, you think it s hard and painful, but in ...

You might be wondering why you can t receive the same benefits from formula
and here s why. It s impossible for formula to compare to the complexity of breast
milk. Your milk is custom made just for your baby. Your body responds to
pathogens that you are exposed to, and actually creates a substance in your milk to
protect your baby from exposure. Pretty amazing huh? In one study, The National
Institute of Environmental Sciences determined your baby will have a 20 percent
less chance of dying in the first year of life if breastfed. Not only does
breastfeeding protect your baby from developing illnesses in the early stages of
life, but it will also help avoid diseases in the future. Breastfed babies are less likely
to have diabetes, high cholesterol, and inflammatory bowel disease in their adult
life. I know, as a parent, you want to do everything you can to protect your children
from harm. After all, it doesn t matter how old they get, they ll always be your babies.
Another incomparable benefit of breastfeeding is your baby s intelligence. Studies
show that exclusive breastfeeding is directly related to improving cognitive
development. That s right, breast milk can actually make your baby smarter! I m
not saying formula can in any way make your child dumb, I m just saying if you
want to give your child a boost that you are fully capable of doing so. Studies show
that breast fed babies
The Modern Day System Of International Commerce
Introduction
The modern day system of international commerce has developed over roughly 200
years. Much until about the end of the eighteenth century it was most unlikely to
transact export trade as it is today because of lack of technological infrastructure.
The important legal framework which would have made for the use of the bill of
lading as a document of transfer was lacking. Today much of the world s tonnage is
transacted under cif contracts which debuted about 150 years ago.
In international trade, the sales contract is the heart of an export import transaction. It
is however, always supported by several other related contracts, reflecting the
complexity of the transaction and number of parties involved. Basic among these ...

This is because most of the statements as to the passing of risk under fob are as
regards whether goods are on board/loaded or not. They essentially do not deal
with the constraint of damage or loss of goods during loading. In Pyrene Co. Ltd v
Scindia Navigation Co. Ltd a fire tender sold fob London previously was damaged
through the fault of the carrier while being carried onboard. This damage in question
occurred prior to the tender crossing the rail and the question that arose was whether
the shipowner was entitled to limit his liability as under the Hague Rules . If risk
doesn t pass at the beginning of the loading, when does it then pass? Is it when the
goods move across the rail or when goods are loaded onboard? Devlin J pointed out
in Pyrene thus; The division of loading into two parts are suited to more antiquated
methods of loading than are now generally adopted and the ship s rail has lost much
of its nineteenth century significance. Only the most enthusiastic lawyer could watch
with satisfaction the spectacle of liablities shifting uneasily as the cargo sways at the
end of a derrick across a notional perpendicular projecting from the ship s rail
He went further to hold that parties were free to define their obligations as regards
loading ; and that in the case before him the carrier s had obligations which began
The Biological Basis Of Human Lactase
Milk is very important to all societies, the different varieties in milk gives the
opportunity for others to have the ability to gain drink milk. But, scientist now
want to try and figure out why some humans can t digest milk while others can.
The scientific research that has been done in order to explain the biological basis of
human lactase is archaeological and genetics. Archaeologist examined pottery shards
in order to grasp what the animals where actually consuming indicating where the
proteins came from. Other scientists did field work with both Africans and
Europeans that either had experiences raising a cattle or did not have experiences
with cattle in order to show that human lactase is genetic. In order to show and or to
further explain the biological basis of human lactase I will first discuss who can
actually drink milk, the history of both Europeans and Africans. Next, I will discuss
the values of both plant domesticationand animal domestication. I will then talk
about where cattle s get their vitamins from and lastly I will discuss the value of
milk, as well as how it benefited other people.
According to the article Ancient DNA Solves milk mystery written by Erika
Check, the people who can easily consume milk are those that were a part of the
African and European culture. The reason being is because they were one of the first
groups of people who started to raise cows and other animals that could produce milk.
This means that Africans and Europeans are the
Media And Its Impact On The Political Movement Essay
The norm of journalism is to present information or news to the general public via
mass media. Thus, it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media
have a vigorous relation with politics especially among the democratic societies
(Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the media is also perceived as the fourth estate
due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the perceptions of the general
public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). However, in comparison to the
past, nowadays, the modernisation of technology, the change of social patterns and
political conditions somewhat change how the media works (Gerth Siegert 2012). In
their article stated that media companies are predominantly private owned companies,
thus, the media are more to market orientation. Therefore, the media are not
necessarily providing vital information to the general public (Gerth Siegert 2012).
Henceforth, the media commonly utilise the practise of framing to provide
information on political matter to the general public (Hanggli 2012). Framing
denotes how the role of media influences its audiences in interpreting and
contemplating on issues provided (Kemp 2013). Therefore, the purpose of this essay
is to analyse how the media presents the overall political contents in newspaperfrom
the New ZealandHerald dated April 23rd and how framing in the political contents
influences the general public. The advancement and modernisation of technology

White Noise Loss Of Knowledge Quotes
Many changes have happened during the end of the 20th and the beginning of the
21st century mostly in technological advances. These changes have allowed humans
to obtain products and information much quicker and also helped expand the work
industry. Acquiring information and products has never been any simpler. The only
problem is that these things are being handed out without us actually knowing where
they come from. We trust these systems that are out of sight more than our own
judgment. Don DeLillo s novel White Noise demonstrates how most people of this
time will have complete faith in information, experts or products given to them from
unknown sources, but will distrust their own judgment and knowledge. Throughout
Don DeLillo s novel, characters will doubt their own judgments and thoughts. These

avoids the question by asking more questions. While Heinrich was in a car with
Jack, Jack asks Heinrich if it was indeed raining outside, which it was. Heinrich then
claims that My truth means nothing. (Don DeLillo 23) Heinrich does not trust his
own knowledge making it useless. He thinks that his judgment should not be taken

In Branding the future: Syfy in the post network era, writer Barbara Selznick
delineates Syfy s struggle to broaden its audience without disenchanting its core
supporters. The channel, which airs programming with science fiction themes and
was originally named the Sci Fi Channel, has continually struggled to break out of
its niche and appeal to a larger audience (Selznick, 184). Most of the network s
attempts have failed to do so. For example, its I Am Sci Fi promo spots in 1999
featured Queen Latifah, Richard Branson, and other mainstream celebrities did not
successfully expand the network s audience, and the promos confused its loyal
audience of science fiction aficionados (Selznick, 187). Aside from Battlestar
Galactica, Syfy has lacked a signature show with mass appeal throughout its history,
and its generic scripted series and uninspired alternative programming have
disappointed fans of science fiction. Due to its underdeveloped niche programming
and its inconsistency in its definition of science fiction, Syfy has struggled to
cultivate a core audience. In this era of television, poor branding of a network is
detrimental because, as Selznick states, Brand equity, in the end, leads to consumer
loyalty (Selznick, 181). Without a cohesive brand, broadcast and cable networks alike
confuse audiences and
The Role Of Anesthesia During The Medical Fields History...

Condoms...Sike this is about Anesthesia
Anesthesia is one of the most significant developments in the medical fields history.
Before anesthesia many people had to suffer because surgery would only bring more
pain. Many surgeons, anesthesiologist, and medical professionals tried to find a way
to provide less pain so others could undergo surgery and have faster recoveries.
Finally, William Morton came along and saved the day. In 1846, Morton provided the
first successful anesthesia, ether anesthesia. After the discovery, surgery and
hospitals all changed. More surgeries were performed and hospitals became much
busier and profitable. Surgery before anesthesia was one of the most painful things
to could undergo, but William Morton s creation of ether anesthesia changed that
way hospitals and surgery worked around the world. William Morton was a dentist
from Charlton, Massachusetts. He was born August 9, 1819. He was the first to
create a successful anesthetic. He began dental practice in 1844. He had tried to find
a successful anesthetic for many years. He collaborated with many other dentist, he
experimented with many compounds, but his efforts always failed. Many surgeons,
dentist and other medical professionals tried and tried to find a working anesthetic,
but to Morton s credit he was the first to successfully find a working one.
Morton went to study at Harvard, but because of financial issues and

A Streetcar Named Desire continues to build suspense among every page and

night out. Blanche insists that since the man and lady of the house aren t home yet,
that he come in. She leaves the lights off while she explains to him that Stanley
simply doesn t like her. Also, she tells him the story of when she was younger and
how the boy that she loved and married had cheated on her with a man. It is then the

he found that Blanche had dug herself into while Blanche was taking a warm bath to
calm her nerves. Stella refused to believe them! Meanwhile, the three occupied chairs

I now think that Belle Reve is gone for good and that Stanley is not going to hurt
Blanche, but instead try to remove her from his home. Moreover, there are three
whole acts left to read. That s room for a little more action! Perhaps Blanche
reconnects with Mitch before she leaves and maybe she winds up staying with
him. Mitch seems to be a very kind and caring gentleman. I feel like he will open
back up to Blanche. What if she does move in with him? Stanley probably wouldn t
take that very well because he wants her completely out of sight and away from his
family. Blanche is likely to stay though not only for Mitch, but the baby that Stella
is expecting as well. She s going to be an aunt! One would think that an aunt would
want to see and connect with her niece. Tennessee Williams, the author, seems to
be funneling his story to an end by giving away a few truths about Blanche. He
does this also by Stanley finally making a move and giving her a bus ticket for the
way out. It s a great way to tone everything down as the book comes to an end.
Lastly, a personal connection has been made through the book with myself and
Blanche. When she needs to calm her nerves or think about something, a warm
bath is the first solution. I am the same way! Some warm bath water in a good and
quiet room makes for a relaxing time. The real world is very much relatable to this
play in many ways, one of them being the rumors that are spread.
Analysis Of The Article Anatomy Of The Medial Knee Essay
I was both satisfied and dissatisfied with FoxNews.com s portrayal of my work.
First, the article did a good job of publicizing (sensationalizing) my work by using the
words discovery, discover and discovered several times throughout the article. This
type of promotion (although a misrepresentation) generated a lot of attention and
interest in my research, which encouraged scientific dialogue and research of the knee
ALL. Moreover, this information could benefit patients, orthopedic practitioners,
other researchers and government research institutions.
Second, the article did provide a link to the KU Leuven news article (which provided
a more accurate portrayal of my research) entitled, Surgeons describe new ligament in
the human knee. This Ku Leuven news article contains a link to my original research
article entitled, Anatomy of the anterolateral ligament of the knee. This gave the
reader an opportunity to read my research and make their own educated judgments
and conclusions.
Third, FoxNews.com did accurately report that the ligament was named by the
researchers: anterolateral ligament (ALL). This is very important because the whole
purpose of the research was to standardize the definition of the ALL which would
provide clarity and minimize confusion among clinicians and researchers.
Finally, FoxNews.com did accurately report that Dr. Steven Claes and Dr. Johan

Real-time Overlay of Map Features onto a Video Feed Essay
Cognitics, Inc. proposes a novel software system that combines a geospatial database
and a 3D simulated environment with technology developed by Lockheed Martin for
targeting systems. The new software system will be able to precisely identify the
camera position and orientation for each frame of video, and use that information to
accurately overlay the videoframes with a wide variety of geospatial and map features.
This technology can dramatically increase the situational awareness of UAV pilots by
displaying and/or highlighting the location of targets, troops, landmarks, or any other
item that has a geographic location component.

If the camera information is precise, there will be excellent correlation between the
synthetic scene and the scene from the video frame. When differences exist,
ground control points will be generated and a transformation matrix will be derived
to determine a more precise camera model. By feeding this precise camera model
as well as a position computed using dead reckoning like position predictions into a
filtering algorithm such as a Kalman filter, we can integrate multiple data sources
for the most precise camera position information. This will allow the overlay to be
precise even when GPS signals are poor, or visibility on the UAV video feed is poor
due to dust or clouds.
Using the precise transformation matrix, any 3D data can be accurately overlaid over
the video frame. Additionally, any pixel on the video frame can be translated back to
latitude, longitude, and elevation using the transformation matrix and the synthetic
3D environment.
Because of the accurate transformation matrix we obtain through our approach, it is
possible to overlay any geospatial feature, 3D model, or map content over the
video frame. Features such as controlled airspace can be rendered as a semi
transparent 3D object in the sky. The data to be overlaid is rendered using the
transformation matrix to a pixel buffer with a transparency channel. That buffer can
then be overlaid on the actual video frame from the UAV and encoded back into a

Needle Exchange Programs Essay
One of the major problems of our society nowadays is the rapid growth of drug
addicts. This is because people misused and abused drugs, which can lead to
addiction and dependent on drugs. In addition, the most abused drugs are
psychotropic drugs such as cocaine and heroin, which can change the way people
thinks, acts and feels. Today, there are many programs that are established to help
drugusers and prevent the spread of diseases. Needle exchange program (NEPs) is
one of the programs, which has goal to reduce harm to drug users and innocent
people. Moreover, implementing of needle exchange programs has become an
argument because it cannot help drug users but instead it encourages them to use
more drugs. In fact,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, NEPs will provide sterile needle and syringes to avoid exchanges of used
injections between drug users. Since NEPs are implemented, the number of HIV
cases and other diseases are declined. In Saskatchewan, distributing needles reduces
the total costs for health care because needle exchange programs reduce the
transmission of HIV by one third and accommodate a return of four thousand
dollars investment in health care costs. (Thompson) Needle exchange program
provide safety not only in drug addicts but also provide safety in the community.
Many of needle exchange programs perform a one for one basis to decrease the
exposure of contaminated needles in streets and playgrounds so that children and
other people are away from needle sticks accident. (Franciscus) On the other hand,
people who are against of needle exchange programs claim that the needle
exchange programs don t save lives but instead it can cause drug related deaths.
Even though NEPs help reduce the transmission of HIV and other diseases, they
still encourage people to use more drugs, which could lead to death. Addicts are
prone to death, perhaps not from HIV, but from overdosed, collapsed veins,
poisoned dope, or the violence and criminality that go along with the illicit drug
trade. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there are more than
33,000 people who died from drug overdose in 2005. As a result, drug overdose

ABA-Applied Behavior Analysis Paper
One of the most common and well executed behavioral learning theories in the
classroom is ABA Applied Behavioral Analysis. In ABA undesirable behaviors are
extinguished by removing reinforcement when that behavior is exhibited, thereby
allowing the learner to modify their behavior (Ormrod, 2016, p. 85). Targeted
behaviors are reinforced, and antecedent strategies, as well as consequences are
devised based up on the learner. Treatment plans are developed and modified as the
student learns and modifies their behavior(Ormrod, 2016, pp. 91 94). Token
reinforcement, or token economy, is often used to encourage students to work
towards modifying their behavior and acquiring new skills (Ormrod, 2016, p. 97). A
classroom of students can be reinforced
To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is...
To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is used widely by Shakespeare.
Throughout the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1,
Scene 2, we see her planning on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The
interactions between her and the other characters show dramatic ironyas they do not
realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience does. Orsino, at the start of Act
2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario. Orsino does not know
the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same when he
says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman.

This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer
and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner
disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks
in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my
aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how
she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical
disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is
disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing
all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to
not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as
Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less
comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there
would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not
have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create
amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem
ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge
of Viola s true identity. Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself
in the last act, making it a zenith ending, with all the characters present

Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller
Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller
1245 Words 5 Pages
Death of A Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a play based on the turmoil within
an average American family. Miller wrote Death of A Salesman easily showcasing
the elements of drama. I was easily able to follow the plot, identify with his
characters, and picture the setting.
The main theme of the plot seemed to be Willy reaching for the American Dream .
Financial success, business success, outwardly perfect family, revered by your peers,
and in general respected by all. Early on in the play two things are evident to the
reader; Willy s questionable mental status, and his tumultuous relationship with his
sons.

Wagner s. He is also unable to come to terms with his own advancing years as a
salesman. He only goes to Mr. Wagner to ask for a job strictly in New York when
Linda insists. What he sees as valuable experience others see as obsolete. Willy
longs for the days when the boys revered him and they were pals.
Scott Foll states the driving point of plot is conflict (1182). This play definitely has
the ultimate conflict. That is simply, family. Conflict with Willy and Biff, Willy
with himself, and Linda with her sons. For me the turning climactic point is when
while talking with Ben, Willy believes he can regain what he lost years ago with
Biff by ending his life. He thinks the twenty thousand from the insurance money will
fix it all. I suppose the resolution in this play was Willy s death. Although I do not
imagine this could truly be resolution for the remaining family.
Characterization seemed to be the most well developed element of the play. The
patriarch of the family, Willy Loman was portrayed as the tragic hero. I believe his
character did indeed possess some character flaws that inevitably led to his death.
However, I agree with the character summary written in Spark Notes that Willy
never achieved the self realization or self knowledge to be labeled a true tragic hero
(Miller). He never fully realizes is personal failures, even with his death. His pride
Jeremy Bentham s Theory Of The Panopticon
In February of 2004, an advanced prison system was born for all the world to take
part of. The prison, which was designed for a younger generation, was built to
monitor all inmates at all hours of the day, convert what was once a manual process
to automatic, and to collect personal information from each individual. The lockup is
host to billions of inmates, each having their own cell. One might assume this prison
is a building, but it is more a state of mind. Located in the public s view, where all
can see it each and every day, anyone is able to join and only takes a click of a
mouse. This prison is Facebook. Michel Foucault, a French philosopher, has brought
to attention insights that help clarify how power and discipline work together to
create surveillance for a large group. Foucault passed away before the birth of the
internet, but has provided society with knowledge on how surveillance is applicable
to the online world. In the essay Panopticism, Foucault expands on Jeremy Bentham s
theory of the panopticon. Proposed by Bentham in the mid 19th century, the
panopticon is a prison which was used to observe inmates constantly (Torres,
2017). The prison has a tower in the middle, where each inmate can be seen from
the tower by a guard (Foucault, 1975, 200). Therefore, the prisoners always think
they are being watched as they cannot see who is in the tower, or if there even is
anyone in the tower watching. Foucault describes this in his essay as being the major

came out, though, one in particular stood out. Boyz N the Hood, directed by John
Singleton, became widely acknowledged as the definitive film for inner city African
Americans. Regardless of age, race, or religion, the film s powerful and gritty
imagery captivated audiences nationwide. Though many Americans had a general
idea of the rough lifestyle endured by many inner city dwellers, the ... Show more

Other incidents again ranged from nonfatal stabbings and shootings to fistfights
(Baker 4). The subject matter in the film was so controversial and strikingly
realistic that audiences nationwide broke out in rage and rioted. Culturally the
world was experiencing a facelift as well. Popular music was shifting from the
larger than life hair bands of the 1980s to the gritty gangster rap popularized by
artists such as N.W.A. and the 2 Live Crew. The hip hop movement was also being
felt in the fashion world where the popular styles tended to reflect what popular
rappers were wearing in their music videos. As Susan Bordo stated in her article,
Beauty (Re)discovers the Male Body, the mainstream successes of hip hop, along
with the attractive rebellious images displayed by popular artists of the genre, lead to
a widespread hip hop inspired trend in fashion that was popular among all classes of
people (Bordo 202). In film, 1991 was the year of the blockbuster. Films such as
Terminator 2, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Beauty and the Beast helped rake
in profits like never before seen. Also, the success of Boyz N the Hood set off a spree
of films directed towards the black audience with releases such as Menace II Society
and Dead Presidents. Of all the various aspects of Boyz N the Hood that received
critical acclaim, the realism of the film, above all, is what made the movie so
powerful. Similarly to real life, the characters deal with
The Ideal Site For Radioactive Waste Disposal
Define the ideal site for radioactive waste disposal.
In the present day, nuclear power is responsible for generating roughly one sixth of
the UK s electrical energy. We have a total of nine active nuclear power plants
distributed around the country, housing sixteen nuclear reactors. In the US, one fifth
of energy is produced by nuclear power. Nuclear energy production has many
advantages compared to other sources. For example, it has very low pollution levels,
unlike methods involving fossil fuels, which produce high amounts of pollution,
therefore harming the atmosphere and environment. Also, nuclear power has a high
energy density production and so less fuel is required; it is estimated that a single
nuclear fission reaction releases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radiation exposure can cause birth defects, cancer, and in extreme cases, death.
The extent of the damage caused depends on the radioactivity of the substance as
well as the length of exposure. The length of time that a certain type of waste is
dangerous depends on the half life of each isotope in the waste. During the process
of radioactive decay, energy is released as the nucleus of a radioactive isotope (the
parent ) is changed into that of another isotope (the daughter ). This radioactive
decay from parent to daughter continues until the original parent isotope changes
into a stable, non radiactive isotope. Throughout the process, energy is released in
the form of energetic particles or rays. Hence, in a sample of uranium, the parent
uranium isotopes are constantly decaying until the sample consists of only lead, the
final daughter isotope in the uranium decay series. It takes a very long time for all
the uranium to decay completely to lead, the half life of the uranium isotope uranium
238, for example, is 4.5 billion years.
Much research is constantly going into updating and improving disposal schemes for
radioactive waste, in the search to find the ideal site and method. Low level and high
level radioactive wastes are handled very differently but it is important that both are
safely and securely disposed of in order to minimize risk of damage to the surrounding
population and environment.

Counter Ied Tactics
Figure 3 As coalition forces deployed their new counter IED equipment, insurgent
forces began to adapt their methods of attack. The changes in insurgent tactics, and
resulting increased casualties on the battlefield, directed a new approach to the
counter IED struggle. Beginning in 2007, the US and its allies shifted their counter
IED strategy from exclusively IED response operations to a more holistic systems
analysis and defeat construct (Moulton, 2009). Two critical elements needed to be
developed to enable the success of this new policy. First, coalition forces needed a
way to positively identify individuals in a barely functioning society. Identity
documents were often nonexistent, or forged, and many of Iraqs millions of citizens
shared similar names. This requirement drove the development of a national identity
database that would allow for the electronic collection and dissemination of iris,
fingerprint and occasionally DNA information (Beehner, 2007).... Show more content

Often, this meant exposing the technician to increased risk as insurgent forces
observed this behavior and began to specifically target bomb technicians. Sniper
fire, additional secondary booby trap IEDs and hoax devices became commonplace
on IED response operations. However, these threats were deemed necessary as
fingerprint and DNA material gathered at the site of IED s defused or detonated
would later prove critical to identifying bomb makers and bomb emplacers. In Figure

operations illuminated terror networks and allowed for targeted counter terror
Streetcar Named Desire Naturalism
Naturalism was a literary period that was highlighted between 1880 and 1940.
Naturalists used to believe that nature was much more powerful than anything else
which humanity would never overturn its power. Naturalists would use lifestyles,
common characters, and plenty of personification associated with nature. Naturalists
studied characters through their relationships with each different characters and
nature alike. Taking an experimental stand on life, Naturalists were objective in life
and allowed the natural order of things to progress.
While not usually outlined as a realistic piece, some characteristics of Naturalism are
apparent in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire.
First, the play depicts lower class characters in ... Show more content on

Lastly, the ending of the play was made apparent through all that led up to that. Life
for Blanche and Stella was what it was. Regardless of how arduous either of them
tried, their lives were on a path that they would not be ready to deter from. Blanche s
mental instability could lead to nothing but her being institutionalized and Stella s
love for Stanley could lead to nothing but her staying with him.
Naturalism was initially began by French author Emile Zola. Zola cast the road for
alternative authors who wanted to tug away from the Romantic concepts of writing.
Romantics viewed life through rose colored glasses (meaning they forced the
sweetness of all things to the front). In essence, in their want to elevate nature and
also the fantastic thing about nature, Romantics would often alter the realities of life.
Naturalists, on the opposite hand, desired to point out life as it ultimately was (as an
extension of Realism). The authors would usually be figurative scientific observers,
stating solely what they observed in life while not manipulating
Essay on Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, in 1770. He came from a
family of musicians. His father and grandfather worked for the Electors of
Cologne. The grandfather, Lodewyk van Beethoven came from Mechelen, Belgium
and joined the court orchestra in Bonn as a bass player. He eventually became the
conductor. His son Johann was a professional tenor at the court in Bonn and also
played piano and violin. As Beethoven began to exhibited his outstanding musical
talent at a young age, his father pushed for him to become a child prodigy. Johann
gradually gave up when Beethoven s recitals were only marginally successful.

By this time Beethoven was ready for the almightiest risk of his life ( Simpson 55).
He was at the stage in his life where he knew what risks he could and could not take.
For years Beethoven had contemplated setting Schiller s Ode to Joy, but when he
decided to make this the setting to the final movement to his ninth symphony he was
very uncertain as to how to introduce the voice. ... there are reports of him striding
up and down his room trying to solve this problem ( Pike 70). Although some of the
ideas used in the Ninth Symphony appear in sketches of 1817 18, Beethoven only
began concentrated work on the score in 1822. It occupied him throughout 1823,
and he completed it in February 1824. The first performance took place at the
Karntnerthor Theater in Vienna on May 7, 1824. Beethoven stood there completely
deaf beating time and turning pages of his score, but the real conduction was done
by Michael Umlauf. The orchestra leader was Schuppanigh. The dedication was to
King Frederick William III of Prussia.( Steinberg 47 48)The first vocal soloists to
perform this were Henriette Sontag (soprano), Karoline Ungersabatier ( alto), Anton

possible for the performance with mixed critical success. The symphony s required
orchestration includes: two flutes and piccolo, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons
and contrabassoon, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, timpani, triangle,

Review Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
Betty Friedan wrote the Feminine Mystique in 1963. It acted as a catalyst that
started discussion of the elephant in suburbia s living rooms. Wives and mothers
were fed up with simply being wives and mothers and wanted to do more with their
lives. While this may seem like a simple issue with a simple fix such as getting a
hobby or extracurricular activity, Friedan present s this as a multidimensional issue
rooted deep within the nation s history. Friedan presents evidence to assert that the
feminine mystiqueor being the quintessential woman by reaching one s maximum
femininity by being a dutiful wife and mother was manufactured by society and could
not truly satisfy women (33).
The feminine mystique says that the highest value and the only commitment for
women is the fulfillment of their own femininity...The mistake, says the mystique, the

She states that due to the, ...frightening uncertainty, the cold immensity of the
changing world, women as well as men sought the comforting reality of home and
children, following World War II (153). Friedan explains that women took over
men s role in society during the war and when the men returned and wanted their
roles back, women were simply forced to deal with it and leave these roles for the
men. There were also a percentage of women who after being lonely from the
separation from their husbands, ultimately wanted to stay home and be a doting
housewife and mother (155 6). This blow to women at the time was damaging to the
strides made during wartime and discouraged women who knew that regardless to
whether they were qualified enough for a position, a man would be chosen over her
simply because he was male, reinforcing the

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Marriage is a ritual that marks a change in status for a man and a woman and the
acceptance by society of the new family that is formed (Rosman Rubel, 1981).
Marriage, like other customs, is governed by rules (Rosman Rubel, 1981).
Anthropology has represented marriage as the definitive ritual and universally
translatable regulative ideal of human societies (BORNEMAN, 1996). Marriage
also the act of joining two persons of opposite sex together to become as husband
and wife. Many people in the society have different opinions or outright
misconception of the meaning of marriage. While some people see it as a union

Financial Accounting And Reporting Standards
Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards
Jeremy J Boston
Saint Leo University Abstract Financial accounting has become more complex as
our country grows. The United States has established a core financial body to ensure
all financial statements are published within the prescribed guidelines so that any
creditor or investor is able to read and understand the information. The FASB was
created to ensure that these guidelines are followed and they are well paid
individuals so there is little chance of them keeping ties with their private firms which
creates a trust with the public. The FASB crated a conceptual framework that all
companies must adhere to. This ensures that investors, creditors and the public

Challenges
Along with the demand for a more universal form of accounting report come many
challenges. Many of them are in the form of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. Scandals within
the accounting departments in companies such as Enron, Rite Aid, and Xerox caused
this act to be created. The Sarbanes Oxley Act created the Securities and Exchange
Commission, SEC, which helped standardize all financial information that was
passed along to the stockholders. Auditors were affected as a part of the act in the
sense that they became more independent and strong. The audit committee s
became independent members with prior financial expertise. They were however
limited to no more than a 5 year partner rotation within their respective firms. CEO
s and CFO s were also to be help more accountable for their financial reporting. CEO
s and CFO s are now required to personally sign off and certify financial statements.
If there is a mistake they forfeit their entire bonus. Within each organization there is
also requires being an internal checks and balances process to prevent and detect
possible fraud. Most of all, there the Sarbanes Oxley Act establishes a code of ethics
for all senior financial officers. This act is to ensure that public trust is maintained at
all times.

Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus Essays
Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus Albert Camus essay, The Myth Of Sisyphus is
an insightful analysis of the classic work, The Myth Of Sisyphus . In some regards
Camus view of Sisyphus can seem quite accurate and in tune with the original text,
but based on Camus interpretation of the justness of Sisyphus punishment, it is clear
that the writer has some different ideas as well. Camus concludes that this
punishment does not have the effect the Gods had intended, and ultimately the tragic
hero must be seen as being happy . This is his greatest departure from the intent of the
original myth wherein the reader is left with the feeling that Sisyphus punishment can
be seen as appropriate and just. As his punishment for... Show more content on

As the extent of Sisyphus? punishment is only described in the original story by a
single sentence, Camus takes great pains in describing the psychological effects it
has on Sisyphus, and the mental state he must be in to endure such an ordeal. In
describing this, Camus focuses on the point at which Sisyphus makes his decent
back to gather his great rock. It is at this point that Camus makes clear as to why he
considers Sisyphus an ?absurd hero?. Assuming that this punishment can only be
considered tragic if Sisyphus becomes conscious of it, Camus points out that it is
during this descent that our main character becomes aware of his awful state, and
in doing so becomes, ?superior to his fate. He is stronger than his rock.? Camus
suggests that Sisyphus is at ease with this punishment because in this ?absurd?
universe, man?s fate is the only thing that can be shaped by man, and in doing so,
that fate belongs to man. Sisyphus? rock belongs to him. If it is possible to see
Sisyphus as conscious during his descent, then it is surely possible that he is aware
of his predicament during his grueling ascent as well. Is Sisyphus not ?conscious? of
the horrible punishment that he has been handed by the Gods as he makes his way
up the hill with his rock? It is his ascent that allows the reader of the original story to
remember what this act is supposed to represent, and it is the ascent that Camus,

Alexander Hamilton: Hero of America
Bang! Alexander Hamilton s dead! Hamilton s dead! Aaron Burr shot him! But why...
Alexander Hamilton was the Secretary of the Treasury from 1789 to 1795. People

he was shot by Aaron Burr. Even so, most people do not know much else about him
and do not think his life was very interesting. Recently, a Broadway play about
Hamilton came out. It stars Lin Manuel Miranda and has been a tremendous success.
It has caused people to learn about the struggles in Hamilton s life, how he was a

Recent years, agency problem gradually becomes a hot issue and attract many

problems, such as dividend payouts, corporate governance and so on.
As the existence of productivity development and large scale production, principal
agent relationship is widespread in various areas. However, when management and
ownership in a company are separate, this action leads to the rising agency problems.
The manager who makes the decisions prefers to develop the company in order to
maximize their self interest while those shareholders best interests may differ from

Literature Review on Accounting Conservatism
Basu (1997) firstly quantified the accounting conservatism. According to the later
literatures conducted by Pope and Walker (1999), Ball at al. (2000), Holthausen and
Watts (2003) and Beaver and Ryan (2005), the accounting conservatism was
approved to be existed. According to O Hara et al. (2003), accounting conservatism
can reduce opportunism and cost of equity and debt.

According to Givoly and Hayn (2000) and Beatty, Weber, and Yu (2008), they used
non operating accruals and differential earnings skewness. The third one is Callen,
Segal, and Hope s (2010) conservatism measure.
However, each one of the proxies has some inherent defects. Hence, we decide to use
a composite measure conducted by Louis and Urcan (2015), which combined the
above three measures. Firstly, they ranked three measures mentioned above into
deciles. Then they averaged the ranks and standardized these averages between 0 and

Pros And Cons Of Social Media Activism
What s on your mind? The Pros and Cons of Social Media Activism Nowadays,
social media is practically a staple in everyone s lives. While some use it solely to
stay in touch with friends or family, others wouldn t even know the latest of current
events if they didn t have their phone notifying them that their friends are talking
about it. The Internet and social media have bred a new generation of socially
aware people which has given them a platform to learn and share on. Because this
generation s growth is largely based online and through technology, it has formed a
new brand of social activism. While some feel social media has made it too easy to

I get any and all of my information from news applications or social media. When
the protests and riots began, twitter was the only place I had heard about it. There
were countless live streams and people constantly updating their profile with what
they saw unfolding. Being able to directly witness the tragic events that were
occurring, as they were occurring, gave opportunity for those who could not
physically help to spread the message of what was happening, share fundraisers to
help victims, or even help extend the reach of a location for safe shelter. None of
this would have been possible without social media platforms to reach out on. It s
easy to understand why people think that social media activism is lazy , We found
that when consumers gave public support, they were no more likely to provide
more meaningful support for the cause than if someone was just randomly asked
for the larger request. (Activism or Slacktivism) The worst thing that comes from
social opinions and organizations being so easily accessible on the web is people
giving a simple like or share and that being the extent of their support. While this
can be discouraging, there are still many people the page or tweet can reach and
influence. Someone can see that their friend liked a page in support of Black Lives
Matter or something similar, and even a small gesture like that can convince them to
join the cause. That difference

Difference Between Self-Esteem And Self Esteem
When individuals compare themselves to others, generally, people tend to use upward
comparison through the idea that one day they will become that ideal image. This
could mean in wealth, health, happiness, etc. When comparing to others, many
people feel inadequate and their self esteem suffers for it. If someone cannot reach
what they aspire to be, especially when comparing themselves to others who have
accomplished these goals, their self esteemis generally lower than average. Studying
this topic allows insight into how others affect an individual s self esteem when they
are compared and the differences that can affect the social comparison. This
importance is to determine what features and aspects of life are causing lower self
esteem in individuals that use upward social comparison and how these affects can
be different for everyone. The intent of this study is to correlate whether people
feel better or worse about themselves through upward social comparison to general
role models. This is important because role models can have a peculiar impact on
someone s self esteem, depending on how that role model behaves. In previous
studies, the documentation on upward social comparison displays how different
aspects can affect how an individual may see themselves as lesser. Roy F.
Baumeister discusses in Self Esteem: The Puzzle of Low Self Esteem, in social
comparison situations, people may sometimes make upward comparisons, presumably
to gain more information about a task, or
Civic-Sclerosis Essay
That citizen sinks further into apathy, anonymity, and depersonalization. The result
is that he comes to depend on public authority and a state of civic sclerosis sets in
(Alinsky, 1971). This statement perfectly describes what is happening to the people
today. People are no longer concerned with what is happening around them. The
world today is living in an individualization phase where there are more people who
know more stuff about the celebrities, latest fashion and gadgets, rich lifestyle, etc.
rather than the continuous welfare problems. Because the world has reached the
technology era, people are blind and deaf to the oppression that is happening. In this
world full of complex networks of problems, where should the people start?... Show

After dropping out from graduate school, he spent his life in community organizing.
He was an organizer in the Congress of Industrial Organizations and more active in
the Back of the Yards where the poor people in Chicago are residing. Also, he
organized the community of African American ghettos in the same state. Also, he did
not just focus in Chicago but travelled further in California, Michigan, New York, etc.
Because of his passion in helping the oppressed people in the community, he was
considered as the Father of Community Organizing. On 1972, Saul Alinsky died by a
sudden heart attack in Carmel, California. In an interview by Playboy Magazine a
few months before his death, he said that he would choose to be in Hell in because
he would organize the Have Nots who are less virtuous in there, his kind of people.
In the society today, radical is associated with an extremist or leftist, terrorist, and
etc. A radical person is someone who disrupts the stability and peace in the society.
In relation with the book, I cannot understand before on why Alinsky should use a
community organizer as a personification of a radical person. A radical is
somewhat negative to be used as a community organizer. It is like community
organizer is peace while radical is disorder. However, as I was reading the book, I
realized that a community organizer should be a radical. In the situation today, we
just don t need a person who just organizes a
Titration Of Hcl Lab Report
For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to
determine the unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with
NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to
titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to
determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could
be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water.
Throughout the rinsing process of the pHprobe, the deionized water s pH reading
would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the
analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could
have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the
LabQuest readings.
The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one
another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint
than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of
NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was
9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was
seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the
equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH . The
endpoint is where the indicator, phenolphthalein, changed color based on pH. The

Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint Essay
Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint
In order for John to file a discrimination complaint against his employer, he is
required to file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint
counselor or representative of the company. Once the charge has been filed, an
investigation is made, or the charge maybe selected to an EEOC program and
maybe dismissed. In this case, John is given a certain number of days to file a lawsuit
on his behalf. This process would have to go through several lengthy stages such as
the EEOC administrative process. If gone to trial it must go through filing of a
summons, response and answer, discovery process, enlisting of experts, pre trial,
actual trial and a possible appeal. In the EEOC s Charge ... Show more content on

The defendant at this time must plead any affirmative defenses and show that they
are not liable because the affirmative defense rules out liability. The next step is the
Discovery Process, which is the formal fact finding stage of litigation. There are
several different types of discovery processes: interrogatories, depositions, request
to produce documents, physical and mental examinations and request for
admissions. Both sides would then request additional information from the other
party or third parties to develop their case. In most cases if privileged information
is gathered, the opposing party does not have to produce this information. In
addition to information gathered, the parties may be able to determine their
opponent s theories and strengths of their courtroom presentation. Based on their
discovery plan and requests. Once the discovery process is completed, the
Enlisting of Experts process is required. The plaintiff early in the pre trial process to
determine whether he has a viable claim must obtain this expert. The defendant will
also obtain an expert to support the defendant s theory of the case and refute the
plaintiff s expert. After sufficient discovery has been made and experts are in place,
either party may move for summary judgment. If the material at hand shows that
there is no genuine issue as to a material fact, the court may rule and motion that
there is no need for a formal trial. When either party
Bacillus Thuringiensis Bacterium
Bacillus thuringiensis is a spore forming bacterium that produces crystals protein
which are toxic to many species of insects. Therefore it is used a natural pesticide. It
is naturally occurring throughout the world and its usage is very common. There are
thousands of different Bt strains. The kurstaki strain being the most common kills
only leaf and needle feeding caterpillars. In the last ten years, Bt strains have been
mostly used to control the abundance of flies, mosquitoes, black flies, amongst
others. When it comes to Bt strains, the target is very specific. The strains for
mosquitoes will only target them and not affect other insects. Even though Bt is used
in aerial spraying programs and transgenic crops its main usage in organic farming.
In 1901 while performing research on Sudden Collapse Disease on silk worms,
Japanese biologist Shigetane Ishiwatari discovered Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt
originally called Bacillus sotto. It was then rediscovered in 1911 by Ernst Berliner
who was researching the cause of death of the moths in Thuringia, Germany, where
the name thuringiensis comes from. Berliner s research overruled Ishiwatari s
research and Bacillus thuringiensis became the bacterias name. It was not until 1920
where Bt was reportedly used by farmers who began to spray it in their fields. Later
on in 1938, France brought it into the market as a flour moth killer called Sporine. Bt
products started off struggling because a vast amount of insects were immune
How I Have Made And Are Seeking Advice
I have heard that you regret the choices you have made and are seeking advice. I
would like to reassure you that I am here to help you. I know something wonderful
that can help you find peace and heal you personally as well as your damaged
relationship with God and the community.
When people sin, they turn away and disobey God. They are choosing their own
way instead of remaining faithful to God. When a person sins, it creates a separation
between the community, God and the person. Whenever someone sins it hurts and
affects the community of believers. When we sin, we damage our ability to
experience God s love and to live fully with a freed conscience. Our actions have a
ripple effect that affects the whole community. This means that we... Show more

Over all, the Church has developed formal rituals that address the needs of people to
be reconciled with God and the church.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation calls for repentance and conversion of heart. This
means, turning away from sin and bad choices and turn towards God and others.
Through this sacrament, members of the Catholic Church can continue to experience
God s mercy and forgiveness and are reconciled with God, themselves and the
church community. Catholics believe that through Reconciliation they receive the
grace and power from God to turn away from evil and turn to a new way of being.
Reconciliation celebrates the conversion to a new way of living. The new
relationship between self, God and community. All of us will at some point in our
life need reconciliation with people and sometimes even with ourselves. For
Christians, it is also important to reconcile with God. We all experience times when
we need forgiveness for how we have behaved but it must begin with a change of
heart.
Before you go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation it is important to understand what
will happen. Going to confession is a concrete sign that we are sorry for our sin
and shows that we are ready to do something about changing our behaviour. When
going to Confession, there is two main people involved: the penitent, who is seeking
forgiveness and the priest, who is absolving you of your sins. The priest does not
forgive sins
Competing Value Framework
The purpose of the Competing Values Framework is to facilitate the process of
gaining a better understanding of the various management roles and how they can be
applied more effectively in an environment of competing tensions. Each role is
distinct and seemingly contradictory, but must be intertwined in order to achieve
optimal efficiency; ultimately becoming a high performance manager. This
behavioral complexity the ability to deal with the competing demands through the
mastery of seemingly contradictory or paradoxical roles differentiates the high
performing managers from their counterparts (Hart Quinn, 1993). In the process of
becoming a high performance manager, it is essential to remain authentic by
cultivating self awareness, acknowledging... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading a fully integrated life can be challenging as the buckets of your life can
each be demanding in their own way. The buckets of my life are divided into five
categories that include my academic, personal, professional, and family life as well
as my friendships. Currently, my academic career and family life have priority over
the remaining categories, therefore, I attempt to devote as much time as possible to
those particular buckets. Recently I have found myself consciously attempting to
allocate my time based on the day of the week in a way that satisfies all of the
buckets; stretching myself thin and increasing my stress

  • 3. Breastfeeding v Formula Essay examples Globally, less than 40% of infants under six months of age are exclusively breastfed. Breast milk not only has disease fighting substances to protect your baby from illnesses, but it also is pack full of all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs. This is why the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for at least the first six months of life, and to continue for as long as the mother and baby are willing and able. Breastfeeding is not only beneficial to your baby, but also yourself. Breastfeeding is by far the best feeding option for your baby. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You might be wondering why you can t receive the same benefits from formula and here s why. It s impossible for formula to compare to the complexity of breast milk. Your milk is custom made just for your baby. Your body responds to pathogens that you are exposed to, and actually creates a substance in your milk to protect your baby from exposure. Pretty amazing huh? In one study, The National Institute of Environmental Sciences determined your baby will have a 20 percent less chance of dying in the first year of life if breastfed. Not only does breastfeeding protect your baby from developing illnesses in the early stages of life, but it will also help avoid diseases in the future. Breastfed babies are less likely to have diabetes, high cholesterol, and inflammatory bowel disease in their adult life. I know, as a parent, you want to do everything you can to protect your children from harm. After all, it doesn t matter how old they get, they ll always be your babies. Another incomparable benefit of breastfeeding is your baby s intelligence. Studies show that exclusive breastfeeding is directly related to improving cognitive development. That s right, breast milk can actually make your baby smarter! I m not saying formula can in any way make your child dumb, I m just saying if you want to give your child a boost that you are fully capable of doing so. Studies show that breast fed babies

Much until about the end of the eighteenth century it was most unlikely to transact export trade as it is today because of lack of technological infrastructure. The important legal framework which would have made for the use of the bill of lading as a document of transfer was lacking. Today much of the world s tonnage is transacted under cif contracts which debuted about 150 years ago. In international trade, the sales contract is the heart of an export import transaction. This damage in question occurred prior to the tender crossing the rail and the question that arose was whether the shipowner was entitled to limit his liability as under the Hague Rules . If risk doesn t pass at the beginning of the loading, when does it then pass? Is it when the goods move across the rail or when goods are loaded onboard? Devlin J pointed out in Pyrene thus; The division of loading into two parts are suited to more antiquated methods of loading than are now generally adopted and the ship s rail has lost much of its nineteenth century significance. Only the most enthusiastic lawyer could watch with satisfaction the spectacle of liablities shifting uneasily as the cargo sways at the end of a derrick across a notional perpendicular projecting from the ship s rail He went further to hold that parties were free to define their obligations as regards loading ; and that in the case before him the carrier s had obligations which began

Thus, it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media have a vigorous relation with politics especially among the democratic societies (Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the media is also perceived as the fourth estate due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the perceptions of the general public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). However, in comparison to the past, nowadays, the modernisation of technology, the change of social patterns and political conditions somewhat change how the media works (Gerth Siegert 2012). In Branding the future: Syfy in the post network era, writer Barbara Selznick delineates Syfy s struggle to broaden its audience without disenchanting its core supporters. The channel, which airs programming with science fiction themes and was originally named the Sci Fi Channel, has continually struggled to break out of its niche and appeal to a larger audience (Selznick, 184). Most of the network s attempts have failed to do so. For example, its I Am Sci Fi promo spots in 1999 featured Queen Latifah, Richard Branson, and other mainstream celebrities did not successfully expand the network s audience, and the promos confused its loyal audience of science fiction aficionados (Selznick, 187). Aside from Battlestar Galactica, Syfy has lacked a signature show with mass appeal throughout its history, and its generic scripted series and uninspired alternative programming have disappointed fans of science fiction. Due to its underdeveloped niche programming and its inconsistency in its definition of science fiction, Syfy has struggled to cultivate a core audience. In this era of television, poor branding of a network is detrimental because, as Selznick states, Brand equity, in the end, leads to consumer loyalty (Selznick, 181). Nick Schnell Mr. Litz American Literature 05 December 2016 Condoms...Sike this is about Anesthesia Anesthesia is one of the most significant developments in the medical fields history. Before anesthesia many people had to suffer because surgery would only bring more pain. Many surgeons, anesthesiologist, and medical professionals tried to find a way to provide less pain so others could undergo surgery and have faster recoveries. Finally, William Morton came along and saved the day. In 1846, Morton provided the first successful anesthesia, ether anesthesia. After the discovery, surgery and hospitals all changed. More surgeries were performed and hospitals became much busier and profitable. Surgery before anesthesia was one of the most painful things to could undergo, but William Morton s creation of ether anesthesia changed that way hospitals and surgery worked around the world. William Morton was a dentist from Charlton, Massachusetts. He was born August 9, 1819. He was the first to create a successful anesthetic. He began dental practice in 1844. He had tried to find a successful anesthetic for many years. He collaborated with many other dentist, he experimented with many compounds, but his efforts always failed. I feel like he will open back up to Blanche. What if she does move in with him? Stanley probably wouldn t take that very well because he wants her completely out of sight and away from his family. Blanche is likely to stay though not only for Mitch, but the baby that Stella is expecting as well. She s going to be an aunt! One would think that an aunt would want to see and connect with her niece. Tennessee Williams, the author, seems to be funneling his story to an end by giving away a few truths about Blanche. He does this also by Stanley finally making a move and giving her a bus ticket for the way out. It s a great way to tone everything down as the book comes to an end. Lastly, a personal connection has been made through the book with myself and Blanche. When she needs to calm her nerves or think about something, a warm bath is the first solution. I am the same way! Some warm bath water in a good and quiet room makes for a relaxing time. The real world is very much relatable to this play in many ways, one of them being the rumors that are spread.
  • 11. Analysis Of The Article Anatomy Of The Medial Knee Essay I was both satisfied and dissatisfied with FoxNews.com s portrayal of my work. First, the article did a good job of publicizing (sensationalizing) my work by using the words discovery, discover and discovered several times throughout the article. This type of promotion (although a misrepresentation) generated a lot of attention and interest in my research, which encouraged scientific dialogue and research of the knee ALL. Moreover, this information could benefit patients, orthopedic practitioners, other researchers and government research institutions. Second, the article did provide a link to the KU Leuven news article (which provided a more accurate portrayal of my research) entitled, Surgeons describe new ligament in the human knee. This Ku Leuven news article contains a link to my original research article entitled, Anatomy of the anterolateral ligament of the knee. This gave the reader an opportunity to read my research and make their own educated judgments and conclusions. Third, FoxNews.com did accurately report that the ligament was named by the researchers: anterolateral ligament (ALL). • 12. Real-time Overlay of Map Features onto a Video Feed Essay Cognitics, Inc. proposes a novel software system that combines a geospatial database and a 3D simulated environment with technology developed by Lockheed Martin for targeting systems. The new software system will be able to precisely identify the camera position and orientation for each frame of video, and use that information to accurately overlay the videoframes with a wide variety of geospatial and map features. This technology can dramatically increase the situational awareness of UAV pilots by displaying and/or highlighting the location of targets, troops, landmarks, or any other item that has a geographic location component. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has a huge amount of experience and technology in targeting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the camera information is precise, there will be excellent correlation between the synthetic scene and the scene from the video frame. When differences exist, ground control points will be generated and a transformation matrix will be derived to determine a more precise camera model. By feeding this precise camera model as well as a position computed using dead reckoning like position predictions into a filtering algorithm such as a Kalman filter, we can integrate multiple data sources for the most precise camera position information. This will allow the overlay to be precise even when GPS signals are poor, or visibility on the UAV video feed is poor due to dust or clouds. Using the precise transformation matrix, any 3D data can be accurately overlaid over the video frame. Additionally, any pixel on the video frame can be translated back to latitude, longitude, and elevation using the transformation matrix and the synthetic 3D environment. Because of the accurate transformation matrix we obtain through our approach, it is possible to overlay any geospatial feature, 3D model, or map content over the video frame. Features such as controlled airspace can be rendered as a semi transparent 3D object in the sky. The data to be overlaid is rendered using the transformation matrix to a pixel buffer with a transparency channel. That buffer can then be overlaid on the actual video frame from the UAV and encoded back into a H.264 MPEG4 stream for display on any system

In ABA undesirable behaviors are extinguished by removing reinforcement when that behavior is exhibited, thereby allowing the learner to modify their behavior (Ormrod, 2016, p. 85). Targeted behaviors are reinforced, and antecedent strategies, as well as consequences are devised based up on the learner. Throughout the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario. This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity. Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself in the last act, making it a zenith ending, with all the characters present

That is simply, family. Conflict with Willy and Biff, Willy with himself, and Linda with her sons. For me the turning climactic point is when while talking with Ben, Willy believes he can regain what he lost years ago with Biff by ending his life. He thinks the twenty thousand from the insurance money will fix it all. I suppose the resolution in this play was Willy s death. Although I do not imagine this could truly be resolution for the remaining family. Characterization seemed to be the most well developed element of the play. The patriarch of the family, Willy Loman was portrayed as the tragic hero. I believe his character did indeed possess some character flaws that inevitably led to his death. However, I agree with the character summary written in Spark Notes that Willy never achieved the self realization or self knowledge to be labeled a true tragic hero (Miller). He never fully realizes is personal failures, even with his death. His pride

The prison, which was designed for a younger generation, was built to monitor all inmates at all hours of the day, convert what was once a manual process to automatic, and to collect personal information from each individual. The lockup is host to billions of inmates, each having their own cell. One might assume this prison is a building, but it is more a state of mind. In the essay Panopticism, Foucault expands on Jeremy Bentham s theory of the panopticon. Proposed by Bentham in the mid 19th century, the panopticon is a prison which was used to observe inmates constantly (Torres, 2017). The prison has a tower in the middle, where each inmate can be seen from the tower by a guard (Foucault, 1975, 200). Therefore, the prisoners always think they are being watched as they cannot see who is in the tower, or if there even is anyone in the tower watching. • 20. Cultural Analysis of Boyz N the Hood Essay The Boyz Next Door Up until the early 1990s, the decay of inner city America largely went unnoticed by the general American public. However, the rise in popularity of gangster rap and the release of such films as New Jack City and Menace II Society drew the publics attention toward the largely ignored urban areas. Of all the films in the genre that came out, though, one in particular stood out. Boyz N the Hood, directed by John Singleton, became widely acknowledged as the definitive film for inner city African Americans. Regardless of age, race, or religion, the film s powerful and gritty imagery captivated audiences nationwide. Though many Americans had a general idea of the rough lifestyle endured by many inner city dwellers, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other incidents again ranged from nonfatal stabbings and shootings to fistfights (Baker 4). The subject matter in the film was so controversial and strikingly realistic that audiences nationwide broke out in rage and rioted. Culturally the world was experiencing a facelift as well. Popular music was shifting from the larger than life hair bands of the 1980s to the gritty gangster rap popularized by artists such as N.W.A. and the 2 Live Crew. The hip hop movement was also being felt in the fashion world where the popular styles tended to reflect what popular rappers were wearing in their music videos. As Susan Bordo stated in her article, Beauty (Re)discovers the Male Body, the mainstream successes of hip hop, along with the attractive rebellious images displayed by popular artists of the genre, lead to a widespread hip hop inspired trend in fashion that was popular among all classes of people (Bordo 202). In film, 1991 was the year of the blockbuster. Films such as Terminator 2, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Beauty and the Beast helped rake in profits like never before seen. Also, the success of Boyz N the Hood set off a spree of films directed towards the black audience with releases such as Menace II Society and Dead Presidents. Of all the various aspects of Boyz N the Hood that received critical acclaim, the realism of the film, above all, is what made the movie so powerful. Similarly to real life, the characters deal with

In the present day, nuclear power is responsible for generating roughly one sixth of the UK s electrical energy. We have a total of nine active nuclear power plants distributed around the country, housing sixteen nuclear reactors. In the US, one fifth of energy is produced by nuclear power. Nuclear energy production has many advantages compared to other sources. For example, it has very low pollution levels, unlike methods involving fossil fuels, which produce high amounts of pollution, therefore harming the atmosphere and environment. Radiation exposure can cause birth defects, cancer, and in extreme cases, death. The extent of the damage caused depends on the radioactivity of the substance as well as the length of exposure. The length of time that a certain type of waste is dangerous depends on the half life of each isotope in the waste. During the process of radioactive decay, energy is released as the nucleus of a radioactive isotope (the parent ) is changed into that of another isotope (the daughter ). This radioactive decay from parent to daughter continues until the original parent isotope changes into a stable, non radiactive isotope. Throughout the process, energy is released in the form of energetic particles or rays. Hence, in a sample of uranium, the parent uranium isotopes are constantly decaying until the sample consists of only lead, the final daughter isotope in the uranium decay series. It takes a very long time for all the uranium to decay completely to lead, the half life of the uranium isotope uranium 238, for example, is 4.5 billion years. Much research is constantly going into updating and improving disposal schemes for radioactive waste, in the search to find the ideal site and method. Low level and high level radioactive wastes are handled very differently but it is important that both are safely and securely disposed of in order to minimize risk of damage to the surrounding population and environment. The changes in insurgent tactics, and resulting increased casualties on the battlefield, directed a new approach to the counter IED struggle. Beginning in 2007, the US and its allies shifted their counter IED strategy from exclusively IED response operations to a more holistic systems analysis and defeat construct (Moulton, 2009). Two critical elements needed to be developed to enable the success of this new policy. First, coalition forces needed a way to positively identify individuals in a barely functioning society. Identity documents were often nonexistent, or forged, and many of Iraqs millions of citizens shared similar names. This requirement drove the development of a national identity database that would allow for the electronic collection and dissemination of iris, fingerprint and occasionally DNA information (Beehner, 2007).... Naturalism was initially began by French author Emile Zola. Zola cast the road for alternative authors who wanted to tug away from the Romantic concepts of writing. Romantics viewed life through rose colored glasses (meaning they forced the sweetness of all things to the front). In essence, in their want to elevate nature and also the fantastic thing about nature, Romantics would often alter the realities of life. Naturalists, on the opposite hand, desired to point out life as it ultimately was (as an extension of Realism). The authors would usually be figurative scientific observers, stating solely what they observed in life while not manipulating

In some regards Camus view of Sisyphus can seem quite accurate and in tune with the original text, but based on Camus interpretation of the justness of Sisyphus punishment, it is clear that the writer has some different ideas as well. Camus concludes that this punishment does not have the effect the Gods had intended, and ultimately the tragic hero must be seen as being happy . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the extent of Sisyphus? punishment is only described in the original story by a single sentence, Camus takes great pains in describing the psychological effects it has on Sisyphus, and the mental state he must be in to endure such an ordeal. In describing this, Camus focuses on the point at which Sisyphus makes his decent back to gather his great rock. It is at this point that Camus makes clear as to why he considers Sisyphus an ?absurd hero?. Assuming that this punishment can only be considered tragic if Sisyphus becomes conscious of it, Camus points out that it is during this descent that our main character becomes aware of his awful state, and in doing so becomes, ?superior to his fate. He is stronger than his rock.? Camus suggests that Sisyphus is at ease with this punishment because in this ?absurd? universe, man?s fate is the only thing that can be shaped by man, and in doing so, that fate belongs to man. Sisyphus? rock belongs to him. If it is possible to see Sisyphus as conscious during his descent, then it is surely possible that he is aware of his predicament during his grueling ascent as well. Is Sisyphus not ?conscious? of the horrible punishment that he has been handed by the Gods as he makes his way up the hill with his rock? It is his ascent that allows the reader of the original story to remember what this act is supposed to represent, and it is the ascent that Camus, although he describes it

This could mean in wealth, health, happiness, etc. When comparing to others, many people feel inadequate and their self esteem suffers for it. If someone cannot reach what they aspire to be, especially when comparing themselves to others who have accomplished these goals, their self esteemis generally lower than average. Studying this topic allows insight into how others affect an individual s self esteem when they are compared and the differences that can affect the social comparison. This importance is to determine what features and aspects of life are causing lower self esteem in individuals that use upward social comparison and how these affects can be different for everyone. The intent of this study is to correlate whether people feel better or worse about themselves through upward social comparison to general role models. This is important because role models can have a peculiar impact on someone s self esteem, depending on how that role model behaves. In previous studies, the documentation on upward social comparison displays how different aspects can affect how an individual may see themselves as lesser. Roy F. Baumeister discusses in Self Esteem: The Puzzle of Low Self Esteem, in social comparison situations, people may sometimes make upward comparisons, presumably to gain more information about a task, or
  • 39. Civic-Sclerosis Essay That citizen sinks further into apathy, anonymity, and depersonalization. The result is that he comes to depend on public authority and a state of civic sclerosis sets in (Alinsky, 1971). This statement perfectly describes what is happening to the people today. People are no longer concerned with what is happening around them. The world today is living in an individualization phase where there are more people who know more stuff about the celebrities, latest fashion and gadgets, rich lifestyle, etc. rather than the continuous welfare problems. Because the world has reached the technology era, people are blind and deaf to the oppression that is happening. In this world full of complex networks of problems, where should the people start?... He was an organizer in the Congress of Industrial Organizations and more active in the Back of the Yards where the poor people in Chicago are residing. Also, he organized the community of African American ghettos in the same state. Also, he did not just focus in Chicago but travelled further in California, Michigan, New York, etc. Because of his passion in helping the oppressed people in the community, he was considered as the Father of Community Organizing. On 1972, Saul Alinsky died by a sudden heart attack in Carmel, California. In an interview by Playboy Magazine a few months before his death, he said that he would choose to be in Hell in because he would organize the Have Nots who are less virtuous in there, his kind of people. In the society today, radical is associated with an extremist or leftist, terrorist, and etc. A radical person is someone who disrupts the stability and peace in the society. In relation with the book, I cannot understand before on why Alinsky should use a community organizer as a personification of a radical person. A radical is somewhat negative to be used as a community organizer. It is like community organizer is peace while radical is disorder. However, as I was reading the book, I realized that a community organizer should be a radical. In the situation today, we just don t need a person who just organizes a

KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pHprobe, the deionized water s pH reading would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings. The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH . The endpoint is where the indicator, phenolphthalein, changed color based on pH. The color

Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint Essay Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint In order for John to file a discrimination complaint against his employer, he is required to file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint counselor or representative of the company. Once the charge has been filed, an investigation is made, or the charge maybe selected to an EEOC program and maybe dismissed. In this case, John is given a certain number of days to file a lawsuit on his behalf. This process would have to go through several lengthy stages such as the EEOC administrative process. If gone to trial it must go through filing of a summons, response and answer, discovery process, enlisting of experts, pre trial, actual trial and a possible appeal. In the EEOC s Charge ... The next step is the Discovery Process, which is the formal fact finding stage of litigation. There are several different types of discovery processes: interrogatories, depositions, request to produce documents, physical and mental examinations and request for admissions. Both sides would then request additional information from the other party or third parties to develop their case. In most cases if privileged information is gathered, the opposing party does not have to produce this information. In addition to information gathered, the parties may be able to determine their opponent s theories and strengths of their courtroom presentation. Based on their discovery plan and requests. Once the discovery process is completed, the Enlisting of Experts process is required. The plaintiff early in the pre trial process to determine whether he has a viable claim must obtain this expert. The defendant will also obtain an expert to support the defendant s theory of the case and refute the plaintiff s expert. After sufficient discovery has been made and experts are in place, either party may move for summary judgment. If the material at hand shows that there is no genuine issue as to a material fact, the court may rule and motion that there is no need for a formal trial. When either party
  • 42. Bacillus Thuringiensis Bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis is a spore forming bacterium that produces crystals protein which are toxic to many species of insects. Therefore it is used a natural pesticide. It is naturally occurring throughout the world and its usage is very common. There are thousands of different Bt strains. The kurstaki strain being the most common kills only leaf and needle feeding caterpillars. In the last ten years, Bt strains have been mostly used to control the abundance of flies, mosquitoes, black flies, amongst others. When it comes to Bt strains, the target is very specific. The strains for mosquitoes will only target them and not affect other insects. Even though Bt is used in aerial spraying programs and transgenic crops its main usage in organic farming. In 1901 while performing research on Sudden Collapse Disease on silk worms, Japanese biologist Shigetane Ishiwatari discovered Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt originally called Bacillus sotto. It was then rediscovered in 1911 by Ernst Berliner who was researching the cause of death of the moths in Thuringia, Germany, where the name thuringiensis comes from. Berliner s research overruled Ishiwatari s research and Bacillus thuringiensis became the bacterias name. It was not until 1920 where Bt was reportedly used by farmers who began to spray it in their fields. Later on in 1938, France brought it into the market as a flour moth killer called Sporine. Bt products started off struggling because a vast amount of insects were immune
  • 43. How I Have Made And Are Seeking Advice I have heard that you regret the choices you have made and are seeking advice. I would like to reassure you that I am here to help you. I know something wonderful that can help you find peace and heal you personally as well as your damaged relationship with God and the community. When people sin, they turn away and disobey God. They are choosing their own way instead of remaining faithful to God. When a person sins, it creates a separation between the community, God and the person. Whenever someone sins it hurts and affects the community of believers. When we sin, we damage our ability to experience God s love and to live fully with a freed conscience. Our actions have a ripple effect that affects the whole community. This means that we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over all, the Church has developed formal rituals that address the needs of people to be reconciled with God and the church. The Sacrament of Reconciliation calls for repentance and conversion of heart. This means, turning away from sin and bad choices and turn towards God and others. Through this sacrament, members of the Catholic Church can continue to experience God s mercy and forgiveness and are reconciled with God, themselves and the church community. Catholics believe that through Reconciliation they receive the grace and power from God to turn away from evil and turn to a new way of being. Reconciliation celebrates the conversion to a new way of living. The new relationship between self, God and community. All of us will at some point in our life need reconciliation with people and sometimes even with ourselves. For Christians, it is also important to reconcile with God. We all experience times when we need forgiveness for how we have behaved but it must begin with a change of heart. Before you go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation it is important to understand what will happen. Going to confession is a concrete sign that we are sorry for our sin and shows that we are ready to do something about changing our behaviour. When going to Confession, there is two main people involved: the penitent, who is seeking forgiveness and the priest, who is absolving you of your sins. The priest does not forgive sins
  • 44. Competing Value Framework The purpose of the Competing Values Framework is to facilitate the process of gaining a better understanding of the various management roles and how they can be applied more effectively in an environment of competing tensions. Each role is distinct and seemingly contradictory, but must be intertwined in order to achieve optimal efficiency; ultimately becoming a high performance manager. This behavioral complexity the ability to deal with the competing demands through the mastery of seemingly contradictory or paradoxical roles differentiates the high performing managers from their counterparts (Hart Quinn, 1993). In the process of becoming a high performance manager, it is essential to remain authentic by cultivating self awareness, acknowledging... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leading a fully integrated life can be challenging as the buckets of your life can each be demanding in their own way. The buckets of my life are divided into five categories that include my academic, personal, professional, and family life as well as my friendships. Currently, my academic career and family life have priority over the remaining categories, therefore, I attempt to devote as much time as possible to those particular buckets. Recently I have found myself consciously attempting to allocate my time based on the day of the week in a way that satisfies all of the buckets; stretching myself thin and increasing my stress
