Themes In The Pianist
How does Roman Polanski show that humans are able to endure hardship when there s hope in
the film The Pianist? The human will to survive is a major theme in Roman Polanski The Pianist
. The film about a Jewish Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman who was in Poland at the time of the
german invasion. As his family is rounded up to be shipped off to a Nazi labor camp, he escapes
deportation and eludes capture by living in the ruins of Warsaw. the movie goes into great length
showing that humans are able to endure so much hardship when there s hope. By using a multitude
of techniques such as but not limited to, the use of music and sounds, the characterization, and the
use of colour and lighting. Those few cinematic techniques and narrative elements will be dissected
so we can have a better understand how Roman Polanski show that humans are able to endure
hardship when there s hope Music plays a big part within this film. Amidst the sounds of beating,
gunshots, and crying that emphasize a powerful and destructive feeling, the sound of the piano
brings an unbridled feeling of hope to this film. At the beginning of the movie, Wladyslaw is seen
playing Chopin s Nocturne Lento con gran espressione, this is than interrupted by the sound of
bombings. Although Wladyslaw continues to play the piece it is a beautiful demonstration of how
hope is portrayed in the movie. A beautiful piano piece disturbed by the sounds of bombs, gunshots,
and broken glass. The film shows the audience that

Twelfth Night Viola Identity Essay
Through out Shakespeare s entire Twelfths Night Act there were various roles of mistaken
identities. Shakespeare often uses mistaken identity to create confusion and tangled, love
triangles. This keeps his plays fresh and serves to add humor to the entertainment. (D, Jill) Viola
is one of the main characters of the Twelfths Night Act we can easily reduce the amorality or her
decision to dress like a young man. Her character is the center the entire plot. She seems to be
the only character to truly be authentic. She also seems to be truly in love. Viola also plays the
character of Cesario. At times she has problems keeping her identity being that she is in disguise.
For Orsino and Olivia, Orsino starts out by professing his love for Olivia.... Show more content on

This is odd because Sebastian and Viola are different in many ways. In Act three scene one
Cesario disguised as Viola encounters a conversation with Feste and she is very pleasant like
with him. When Sebastian encounters a conversation with Feste in Act four, scene one
Sebastian is very bothered with Feste and doesn t give him the same treatment. This is where
people start to have doubts about Cesario. Viola knows that Cesario is being mistaken for
Sebastian. This is due to the fact that Viola is the only one that knows she has been disguising
herself as a man and the other characters in the play do not. They believe that Cesario is actually
a young man. As I stated before the mistaken identities don t come into the play unti Viola
disguised as Cesario and Sebastian start to come into contact with the same situations as each
other. Now that I have discussed who is mistaken for whom let me now answer the question of
what do these mix ups signify? So what do these mix ups signify? We see what we see but it
doesn t mean that we are seeing the real thing. Just like Cesario was a young male but it was
really Viola under all of that male clothing and disguise. If Viola would have never said to
everyone that she was Cesario everyone would have continued to think Cesario was indeed a

Miles Halter Character Analysis
Miles Halter also known as Pudge changes greatly as a result of attending Culver Creek
boarding school. Coming into a new school, Miles was nervous to see how he would get along
with other students. He suspected it would be the same as it was at home, where he was shy and
would try to avoid as much socializing as possible. His predictions were not accurate as he took
part of many social events, made lots of new friends, and even participated in pranks. Being the
quiet, cautious person Miles is, breaking the smoking rule for the first time was way out of his
comfort zone. It was clear he was nervous to go against the school policy because he asked Is it
safe here? (Green 16). This was one of the first signs showing Miles was changing throughout

The Distinction of Social Classes in Sister Carrie by...
By the later part of the 1800 s New York and Chicago were some of the largest cities in the world
and both had populations that exceeded a million. With the growing population, the economy s
stability began to fluctuate. The instability within the states gave rise to two distinct populations
within America, the upper and the working classes. Theodore Dreiser, knowing the volatile state
America was built upon, highlighted the economic differences between the wealthy and the poor in
his novel Sister Carrie.
During the eighteenth century, America had transformed from a simple homestead into an ornate
country. Within the bustling empire, the wealthy were able to live lavish lifestyle that inspired the
idea of the American Dream. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lowborn workers toiled away for hours in physically exhausting jobs only to afford
apartments that were sterile and cold. There were some nine cots in the place . . . he was sick of
the bareness and privation connected with his venture (Dreiser, 304). The pay affected the men
and woman s own mode of life. They were forced to share living spaces with other families and
more often than naught, had to bunk with complete strangers. The very comforts associated with a
home, such as wood and furniture, were often too large of an expense. Even with Governmental
/ Charity handouts the citizens had no money in which they could afford better living conditions.
The rooms they were given to stay in were cold and sterile, and they were not guaranteed a place
to stay every night. On the others side of the unbalanced American social scale, the rich were living
in superb houses and apartments that bespoke of wealth and comfort. In a weird turn of events, the
elite were given more charitable donations then the unemployed miserable lower class citizens.
Dreiser shows this when Carrie is offered a first class for a mere two dollars a day. The hotel would
ordinarily cost a hundred dollars a week, but Carrie was excused of the high prices, because of her
station in life (Dreiser, 331).

Research Paper On Fraternal Twins
In my opinion, twins reared in such different conditions can display some of the same traits
especially in their biological traits. In this movie (Twins, 1988), Julius and Vincent Benedict
considered as fraternal twins. Fraternal twins are formed from two different ova fertilized by two
different sperm. The fraternal twins are siblings born at the same time. Like other siblings they
share half their genes, chromosomes and also deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), (M Fish, 2010). So
they shared some of the common traits indirectly in their daily routine. Not only that, it was also
considered as nature, which is the biological traits inherited from their biological parents.
Adoption studies stated that two sets of factors that may account for differences in behaviour and
personality which is biological parents and environmental parents. So any links between the
biological parents and child that is given away is usually explained by genetics, ... Show more

The twins can also be the product of their environment. Since Julius lived in a peace and
harmony island, so he does not know about the life in the city, he totally realiable and right
minded, he was also lack of communication skill with others since he stay on the island about
thirty years without others people instead of his biological father, this can be explained by the
incidence whereby he is shy speechless when he met a girl, Marnie in the supermarket. Besides,
he was also resists to those antisocial activities or behavior. In contrast, Vincent was more to craft
and sly guys. This probably because of nurture factor whereby he lived in a competitive city and
need to compete with others in order to survive. So Vincent was a big mouth and glib tongue guys,

The Impact Of The Modern American Home On The Environment
The kitchen is one of the most important rooms of the entire house. Compared to other rooms, it
typically has a great deal more built in. Remodeling it is one of the most expensive things you can
do to a house. It also has substantial impact on the environment.
Why does it have so much impact on the environment? Because it is a work horse of a room. It
uses a lot of energy and water to keep everyone fed. A refrigerator is one of the bigger
contributors to electrical usage in your typical home, in part because you can t turn it off. It needs
to be on 24/7.
Doing this room right is one of the better ways to make sure the home is eco friendly. A large part
of that is choosing the right appliances.
Some modern appliances can save enough energy over the course of a year or two to pay for
themselves. Getting things right from the very beginning can save money down the road by
preventing the need to upgrade in the near future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Start by right sizing everything. ( removed HTML )
The ideal image of the modern American home is rooted in the needs of the post World War 2
nuclear family. As the soldiers came home, the nation came together and created the modern
housing industry from which was born modern suburbs. To this day, homes suited for a nuclear
family with a full time mom set the standard of expectations in the American housing industry.
But since then, our demographics have diversified. On average, there are few people per house
than there were in the 1950s. Lifestyles have changed and people eat out more than they used to.
It may make no sense to have a kitchen outfitted as if there is a full time mom cooking from
scratch every night for a large family.
This means the standard appliances can be overkill. If the space is only intended for two to three
people, a three burner stove may work well in place of a four burner one and it might make sense to
downsize the refrigerator as

Three Dimensional Facial Reconstruction ( Gupta Et Al
Three Dimensional Facial Reconstruction Similar to the two dimensional approach, a forensic
artist and anthropologist are essential in three dimensional facial reconstruction (Gupta et al.,
2015). Initiating the three dimensional reconstruction techniques, clay or plastic have been
typically used to make replication of skulls (Decker, S., Davy Jow, S., Faraut, P., Ford, J.,
Hilbelink, D. Neville, W., 2013). This clay or plastic replication method still utilizes soft facial
tissue depth markers in order to determine landmarks of the face(Nelson, L.A. Michael, S.D.,
1998). In order to create a replication of the face, pieces of clay or plastic is then placed in
between the landmarks that are identified until the face is filled, or close to being filled (Nelson,
L.A. Michael, S.D., 1998). The process of clay or plastic replication producing a three dimensional
approximation of what the individual looks like is outlined in Appendix B. There are multiple
approaches to manual three dimensional facial approximation. According to Gupta et al. (2015)
there three subparts to this approach. The first subpart, Anthropometrical American Method/ Tissue
Depth Method , is a technique in which fine measurements were obtained by the use of needles, X
rays or ultrasound... facial muscles are recorded in proper anatomical manner (Gupta et al., 2015,
27). A second subpart is the Anatomical Russian Method which was developed by Gerasimov
(Gupta et al., 2015, 27). In this application,

Analysis Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen, Verbal...
Since the beginning of time, humans have endeavored to express their thoughts to other humans.
Early on, humans may have expressed their thoughts through only body language and primitive
grunts; however, as civilization progressed, humans developed intelligible language. From
development of that early language, written language was sprouted. From some development of
that written language, other forms of communication came into being. Today, many forms of
communication exist; however, all of them center around verbal communication. In Chaim
Potok s critically acclaimed novel, The Chosen, verbal communication, or the lack thereof, is a
main theme. The lack of communication, silence, in The Chosen is used by Potok not only to
show the suffering of his characters but also to symbolize the struggles of the Jewish people.
Potok uses silence prominently in The Chosen to show isolation. Both of the protagonists in the
book experience an isolating silence; for example, the silence imposed upon Danny is a main
component of the novel s plot. Danny s pain and isolation is caused by his father s silence toward
him. Reb Saunders, Danny s father, doesn t speak with Danny because he believes that being
silent toward Danny is what is best for him; however, the other characters of the book see only that
the silence causes Danny suffering. Reb s silence toward Danny would seem cruel in a normal
situation, but in Danny s situation, it seems to be atrocious. In the forties, being a Jew

Hunger in the World
Millions of people in the world went to bed hungry last night. The amount of food in the world
is unevenly distributed and adequately produced to satisfy the needs of humanities growing
population. The hunger issue the planet is faced with can be resolved with the conservation of
excess food, the increased use of Genetically Modified Foods (GMFs) and the greater funding of
global relief efforts. As long as people have existed there has been a divide in wealth among
them. Whether it is due to an unavoidable greediness amongst them, or just high levels of apathy
toward their own kind, some have always suffered and others have prospered. There have
always been efforts to alleviate this great inequality among the masses, but few of these have
yielded any notable results. A effort worth mentioning is one observed by P. J. O Rourke in his
book All the Troubles in the World. During an excursion into somalia in 1992 1993 he describes
the desolate condition of the populace as a gigantic board of clue, to which the answer was
everybody in shack with the AK 47. In this part of the world famine is as common as checking
your facebook profile, and just as detrimental to your health. There was an abundance of food
donated to the country from across the world, however whatever didn t spoil in the 115 degree heat

Summary Of Huckleberry Finn
Is it ok to deprive people of education? Is it ok to change the past so that few people don t get

States of America, slavery prevailed despite the huge movements against it. The novel
Huckleberry Finn uses literary fiction to make the reader experience how was life for many
different people during those times. In many places, especially the U. S. A., the book is being
banned from schools and libraries because of its strong language, poor grammar and controversial
topics. Mark Twains novel Huckleberry Finn should be taught in high schools despite its strong

In Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain uses language to represent the different personalities of the
characters. In a brilliant way, he makes you understand the background story of each character
and who they are without saying their names with just reading one dialogue. In the 1840s, just
like in the 2015s, people with different races, backgrounds, social status, educations, families
and even experiences can influence a person s manner of speech and accent. Twain makes it
look easy to portray all that in each character through poor grammar . For example with Miss
Watson: Don t gap and stretch like that, Huckleberry why don t you try to behave? (3), in
contrast to Pap: begin to do suthin for him and give him a rest, the law up and goes for him. And
they call that govment! (28), in contrast to Jim: Who? Me? Go long. Doan talk to me bout yo
pints. I reck n I knows sense when I sees it; en dey ain no sense in sich doin s as dat (81). We see
the decay of education, status and power in each quote, which is Twain s goal regarding the

Energy Drinks Market
Energy Drinks Red Bull
What are energy drinks? Cola and coffee drinks have long been promoted and known as energy
drinks meant to give you a little pick me up, mostly in the form of caffeine and sugar. Jolt Cola in
the 80s was one of the early entries in the energy drink market, with double the caffeine of normal
colas, it was marketed towards teens and college students as a way to get an energy edge and
keep you awake and energized. Their slogan, in fact, was twice the caffeine . Jolt has in fact
recently been reincarnated given the success of other energy drinks. What are the most popular

market the smaller cans, which is part of their image.
While the UK is certainly not the only market in Europe where energy and sports drinks are big

Bars and clubs remain important outlets for energy drinks across Europe Many people will try an
energy drink brand for the first time in a bar, with or without alcohol there is a growing trend
towards everyday consumption as a source of energy.
This in itself throws up other challenges not least how the brands, and the stores that sell them,
distinguish themselves from each other. This has led to a range of new products, which
differentiate themselves from Red Bull through packaging, or colour, or taste, or through what they
contain, said Hall. Consumers are increasingly knowledgeable, and they understand more and more
about the ingredients in these drinks, so if the science is good, it can be a real selling point.
Sports drinks are perhaps a case in point. They are generally linked with energy drinks, and indeed
have a number of similarities in terms of functionality and target audience. Yet they are generally
consumed in different situations they are unlikely to be consumed in a bar, for example and have
different effects on the body.

Max Weber on Society Essay
Max Weber on Society
Max Weber was one of the world s greatest sociologists and wrote a lot about the capitalist world
he lived in. He had a different conception of capitalist society than most of his contemporaries. He
looked at capitalism from all the different aspects that the philosophy was made of. Some of these
aspects are state power, authority, class inequality, imperialism, and bureaucracy. To understand
how Weber thought one must look at each area separately then put them all together in a global
package.
Weber describes history in terms of the constant struggle for power. He bases all significant
historical changes on the power struggle that caused them. Weber describes power as a zero sum
game. That means for one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike rational legal authority, traditional authority is not codified in impersonal rules but is
usually invested in a hereditary line or invested in a particular office by a higher power. Finally,
charismatic authority rests on the appeal of leaders who claim allegiance because of the force of
their extraordinary personalities.
Weber does not feel that the power of a class is a very important issue. Weber feels that classes
are only important, within the struggle for power, when they state they are part of their class in
their actions. Classes, along with status groups, are just passive members in society. Only if a
political party solely represents the class, then it becomes active. This unimportance of classes
shows Weber s feelings that the economic issues within capitalism do not effect authority or the
struggle for power.
Imperialism, in Weber s mind, is not a matter of economics. He states that imperialism more of a
political tool. It is used as a tool of prestige for the elites and way to promote nationalism among
the masses. The idea of imperialism was around before capitalism, so it is natural to Weber to
say that it could not have been created by capitalism. Imperialism did, however, appeal to all
members of the ruling classes. It appeals to the prestige of the old elites and it is the source of
money for the new elites; but the appeal of prestige is the more important factor to Weber.

Rappaccini s Daughter Essay
When many people hear the word romantic they think of a candlelit dinner and a dozen roses. The
origin of the term, however, comes from the Romantic era: an artistic movement prominent in the
mid 1800s into the early 1900s. Romantic artists use elements of idealism, imagination,
individuality, and often the supernatural to denounce the validity of logic and science. In these
Romantic stories specifically, love ends in tragedy and at the fault of science. In Nathaniel
Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter, it is revealed that the scientist Rappaccini had been gradually
giving his daughter, Beatrice, doses of poison as part of a twisted experiment. This results in

In the beginning of the story, Rappaccini is described as having an emaciated, sallow, and sickly
face that could never, even in his more youthful days have expressed much warmth of heart
(Hawthorne 3). The scientist is portrayed as having little regard for anything except his craft,
even though he interactions with his flora are described as having no approach of intimacy
(Hawthorne, 3). From a Romantic artist s point of view there is little worse than having an
emotionless connection to one s work, which is why Hawthorne uses this detail to further revile
Rappaccini s character and his work. Near the end of the story Beatrice reveals her father s
inhumane experiment and tells the main character, Giovanni, that because of it she, too has
become poisonous and is therefore unable to love him; She then swallows an antidote and
tragically commits suicide (Hawthorne 27). By making Rappaccini the despised antagonist of the
story, Hawthorne manages to villainize the subject of science as a whole as well as all of those

The New Addiction- Smartphones
Today Teenagers of the world have a new addiction. This new addiction is known as smartphones.
Teenagers between 15 17 nowadays are using smartphones without limits. Everywhere you turn you
see teens bending down or swiping or clicking their phones screen or sleeping with their
smartphones under the pillow. Day after day smartphones are becoming more central to teenagers
lives. A smartphone could be well defines as a portable phone that has additional functions parallel
to personal digital assistance devices. Smartphones simplify communication and offer fast and easy
access to almost every single information needed in teens everyday life. But the fact the
smartphones took place over other devices such as cameras, clocks, library books, and computer
games make them more and more important, which also makes teens dependent to them. The
benefits could be severely undermined if mishandling and over use are not kept in check and under
controlled. Although older teenagers would disagree their use of smartphone should be monitored
by parents, because smartphone are distracting teenagers, causing them health problems, in addition
to encouraging them sexually. Teenagers are being distracted by their smartphones in many

eight soybean germplasm including Peking, PI 88788, and PI 437654 have widely been used
for breeding programs in the US (Vuong et al. 2013). Understanding of resistance to the
nematodes have remained limited because most of the reported resistance QTL have not been
cloned. Also, continuous cultivation of soybean cultivars with the same resistance sources may
accelerate selection pressure for SCN as well as other nematode species. Therefore, development
of soybean cultivars with multiple nematodes resistance would be essential to prevent losses by
the nematodes that can occur in the same field. The lack of diversity for SCN, RKN, and RN
resistance source in current soybean cultivars still emphasizes the necessity of identifying new
resistance genes/QTL. Therefore, continuous germplasm screening to find new germplasm and
genes/QTL would be required for successful soybean breeding programs. The identification of
new genetic sources with broad spectrum resistance to multiple SCN HG types, RKN and RN
would be beneficial for the development of germplasm and varieties to reduce losses from these
nematode species (Lee

The Case Of Edward Bernays
Merriam Webster s dictionary defines ethics as, the discipline dealing with what is good and bad
and with moral duty and obligation (Merriam Webster, 2017). In the field of Public Relations,
ethics is a determining factor in reaching out and building relationships with audiences. Often
times, people will choose whether or not to place their trust in a campaign, business, or company
based on how they portray themselves ethically. However, there have been several instances where
people have acted unethically in the field of Public Relationsand still became successful. In the case
of Edward Bernays, acting ethically was not a point of emphasis. In fact, Bernays unethical public

During the 1920s, Bernays was hired by the American Tobacco Company to tap into the women
s market and get women to begin smoking cigarettes outside. According to Mostegel (2016),
George W. Hill, president of the American Tobacco Company had asked Bernays, How can we
get women to smoke on the street? They re smoking indoors. But, damn it, if they spend half the
time outdoors and we can get em to smoke outdoors, we ll damn near double our female market.
Do something. Act! (p. 41).Although Bernays was already a well known public relations
practitioner by this point in his career, accomplishing that task would not be easy. The 1920s was
a period where women would begin to have as many rights as men, however, they still were not
treated equally. In the nineteenth century, smoking was considered unlady like and masculine. In
the early twentieth century, women began to smoke, but were faced with obstacles. It was still
unacceptable for men and women to smoke in the same place. And in 1922, the District of
Columbia proposed a bill to ban the consumption of cigarettes by women (Leal, Filho, Rocha,
1998, p.47). Essentially, getting women to smoke outside would not be an easy task.
Bernays saw potential in the women s rights movement as a way to push his agendas. In his novel

Pale Fire By Vladimir Nabokov
Pale Fire has spawned a wide variety of interpretations and a large body of written criticism, which
Finnish literary scholar Pekka Tammi estimated in 1995 as more than 80 studies.(Wiki) Although
no correct interpretation exists, a strong case can be made for interpreting the novel in terms of
Kinbote s insanity. His mental decline, paired with his academic unfulfillment, sparked by harsh
criticism by his colleagues leads him to murder John Shade in order to obtain the author s most
recent poem and redeem himself through its thoughtful commentary and analysis. This
interpretation entails that the world of Zembla is entirely fictional and the comically careless

As the novel elaborates on Botkin s insanity, it begins to reveal more about his obsessive, and, at
times aggressive qualities. Botkin describes his disturbing tendency to spy after his beloved
poet: The view from one of my windows kept providing me with first rate entertainment [...]
From the second story of my house the Shade s living room window remained clearly visible so
long as the branches of the deciduous trees between us were still bare... (p. 23) He proceeds to
study the shade s household in a maniac like way by placing a phone call in order to analyze
Sybil Shade s habits.(p. 23) Botkin describes shade s disappearance from his line of view as a
terror , brought upon him by the coming of the night; displaying the level of obsession and
predator like behavior slowly building up inside him. Botkin s quick interaction with the
instructor on page 24, following the snide remark: I contented myself on my way out with
pulling Gerald Emerald s bow tie loose with a deft jerk of my fingers as I passed by him (p. 24)

Smart Fat Research Paper
Fat is often labeled as the reason for obesity however it seems like there is sufficient proof that fat
in itself does not cause weight gain. In 1977, the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human
Needs recommended a dietary guideline that limited fat intake to no more than 30% per day.
According to statistics, the instances of obesity started to increase around the same time fat was
villanized and low fat products became more popular. Furthermore, similar studies claim that the
war on fat led people to substitute butter and lard with processed low fat food which are high in
artificial flavoring and sugar.
More and more health enthusiasts are learning that not all fat is bad for the body. In fact, recently
Dr. Jonny Bowden and Dr. Steven Masley, a nutritionexperts, published their book entitled Smart

Buddhist Meditation Practice Essay
Over this past year I have been involved in a buddhist meditation practice, I have been through
stages of resisting, doubting, and now more accepting this practice. The buddhist meditation
practice I participated in is a controversial religion in Taiwan. Even though the religion has almost a
hundred thousand followers including celebrities and business leaders, the religionitself is still
being judged by others due to its beliefs. The leader himself, Miao Chan, used to be a stuntman
and established the religion twenty years ago. Few years later, he claimed that he has attained full
Buddhahood just like Buddha did 2600 years ago. The practice consists of meditationand buddhism
learning. On weekdays, followers attend small sessions of meditation and learn about
buddhism. On Sundays, followers go to a stadium and meditate with Miao Chan for two hours.
My mother joined the religious group one and a half year ago and invited me to meditate with
her. I was persuaded to join the group and hated it at first. I always heard that meditation is a
healthy exercise for people, so when my mother started doing it I was really happy for her. Then
it all changed once I joined her. I realized that there was not just meditations, we were also asked
to pray to Master Miao Chan. Master Miao Chan was not like any monk I see in other buddhist
group, he is relatively young and has a wife that attends all the Sunday meditation session with him.

New Coke Failure
The Failure of New Coke Wright State University MKT 3500 01 Marketing Research By Nicole

with a potentially company killing problem. They were losing market share quickly to their
competitors. Pepsi was stealing a portion of the younger generation with their advertising
campaign, and they proved that consumers liked Pepsi better with the Pepsi Challenge. To combat
their falling market share Coke decided to introduce a new formula. This formula was based on the
fact that people preferred the sweeter taste of Pepsi. Once the new formula was finished, Coke

Another reason Coke was worried was that when given the choice in supermarkets consumers
were choosing Pepsi. These factors were all considered in the decision to dramatically change
Coke s formula, which had been around for 99 years. The Research After Pepsi began
conducting taste tests, which were showing more and more people were beginning to like
Pepsi, Coke decided that it was time for them to also conduct some market research and see if
there was anything they could change in their formula. The marketing vice president along with
the president of Coke decided to send a team of marketers out on Project Kansas and conduct a
nation wide taste test. With the help of two Atlanta based market research firms, MARC and
Kenneth Hollander Associates, Coke tested their new product in over 30 cities (Fierman, 1985).
The results were overwhelmingly in favor of new Coke, 55% chose the new Coke over the old

researching the new Coke formula. They used a variety of methods for research, such as:
interviewing of around two hundred thousand people; blind taste tests; focus groups; and surveys.
With the numerous methods used to test the new Coke formula, Coke was sure they had a winner

Though the situation of fraud appears to be black and white, what is there to be said about the

case that demonstrates the consequences to auditors when fraud is found to have been perpetrated
by a client is that of Ernst Young and the lumber company, Sino Forest. Sino Forest is a Canadian
Chinese timber company that was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange; before the fraud

Sino held undisclosed control over the network of third parties through which it conducted purchase

until the quarter after they allegedly took place and revenue from them was recognized. (Koven,
2012)

While literature contains many themes, this does not mean that other works do not contain the
same ideas as presented in written works. In the three stories of The Princess Bride , Diablo 3
and Billy Budd Violence and Quests can be seen largely throughout each tale. Violence, while still
having the tradition sense of the word, does not always mean fighting someone or physical attacks.
Violence thematically is the display of aggressive actions verbally, physically, or even aggression
leading to a goal. The other overarching theme in these stories is that of a Quest. Any self realizing
adventure where the protagonist realizes is considered a quest thematically as well as a large set
goal for as seen within the story. The main themes of The Princess Bride, Diablo 3 and Billy Budd
are Quests as well as Violence which show a deep connection on a thematic level.
In The Princess Bride by William Goldman the story starts both as an explanation of the story s
origin as well as where the story should go. Even in this prolog to the story a quest is outlined.
And I realized that I had let control of it go. . . They could change anything they wanted. So I did
something of which I am genuinely proud. I bought the book back from the studio, with my own
money (Goldman xxxv). Even before the story begins a quest was set before the reader. The quest
of a man to have the book he loved

5 Finger Retells
To support each focus student to understand and use this feedback to further their learning related
to retelling a story by including the key details and sequencing the events, I held conferences with
small groups that were created based off common errors of one of the focus students. Student 1,
Student 3, and a large amount of other students from the class struggled with including all of the
characters when retelling, most of the students only mentioned the three billy goats. The students
in the class that had this common error were grouped together in two different groups for smaller
sizes, to go over the responses of the majority of the class. The students were given a new 5 Finger
Retell story to make the revisions discussed on. To help students understand feedback, we will also

Kindergartners are such visual learners that this picture walk supported them when they revised
their settings mentioned on their new 5 Finger Retell story map. Student s with EIP s including
Student 3, were asked to draw both settings in their illustrations. The focus students are able to
understand and use the feedback that has been given during the one on one conference to revise
their retelling by small group support and time to revise errors made on their new 5 Finger Retell
story map. A small group of students with similar errors and strengths was also created to work on
the amount of details a reader provides when retelling a story. Many students were very brief and
broad in their writing and illustrations when retelling the events of the story of what happened in
the beginning, middle, and end. Student 2 and 3 were apart of this group to enhance their retelling
ability. This group of students was successful in sequencing the events, which is the related skill of
retelling, however did not provide enough details when retelling the story to provide enough
evidence on if they could recall more than just the sequence of the

The Author s Character in A Good Man is Hard to Find by...
A Good Man is Hard to Find is a short story written by Flannery O Connor. O Connor was an
American writer whose writings always incorporated humor into a sad or devastating situation. Her
collections include 31 short stories, two novels, and a couple of letters and speeches. O Connor is
most famous for her short storyworks. In numerous works of her, her conscious craftsmanship
was revealed and also the devoted role that Roman Catholicism plays in her life (Flannery) O
Connor was born the only child to her parents in Savannah, Georgia. Her father was a real estate
agent and her mother was born into a very prominent family. When O Connor was twelve years
old, her family moved back to her mothers hometown of Milledgeville, GA where... Show more

She reiterates the fact quite a bit through the duration of the story. The Misfit compares himself to
Jesus. As The Misfit previously stated in the story, when he was growing up he was the type of
child who had to know everything and exactly how it functioned and worked. He says that
because he can not know whether Jesus did what people claim for him has made him (the Misfit)
like he is. The desire of the Misfit to know everything and his inability to confirm or deny Jesus
story has created an intractable dilemma that consumes him (Woodiwis).
In the religious drama within the story, the Misfit acts as both Christ and anti Christ figure. He
compares himself to Christ, saying, It was the same case with Him as me, except He hadn t
committed any crime and they could prove I had committed one because they had the papers on
me ( ). Even though the Misfit cannot dedicate himself to either path, he recognizes that there are
really only two alternatives in life: belief and disbelief. Inattention and indifference to faith, the
position held by most of the characters in A Good Man Is Hard to Findand many in O Connor s
other stories, are unacceptable and ultimately untenable responses. There can be no question,
however, of O Connor s intent. The Misfit and his gun create a moment of redemption for the
grandmother, albeit against her will. Despite his amorality, his actions extract from her a
recognition born out of

The Pollution Prevention Act 1990 (PPA) came into existence in order to raise the interest in

This policy by the United State according to this act mandated that pollution be prevented and most

unavoidably or unable to be prevented, then recycling of such waste should be done considering
the safety and well being of the environment and the people. In a case where it is not possible to
prevent pollution or recycled, such need to be treated in a safe manner to protect to reduce any
hazardous environment (Burnett, 2000).
The act explains source reduction as such practice that will reduce the quality of all hazardous
substance, pollution or any contaminant that enters waste stream or that is released to the
environment before it is recycled, treated or disposed. It is a means to reduce any hazards caused to
the health of the public and the ecosystem in connection with the release of any pollutant.

  • 2. Themes In The Pianist How does Roman Polanski show that humans are able to endure hardship when there s hope in the film The Pianist? The human will to survive is a major theme in Roman Polanski The Pianist . The film about a Jewish Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman who was in Poland at the time of the german invasion. As his family is rounded up to be shipped off to a Nazi labor camp, he escapes deportation and eludes capture by living in the ruins of Warsaw. the movie goes into great length showing that humans are able to endure so much hardship when there s hope. By using a multitude of techniques such as but not limited to, the use of music and sounds, the characterization, and the use of colour and lighting. Those few cinematic techniques and narrative elements will be dissected so we can have a better understand how Roman Polanski show that humans are able to endure hardship when there s hope Music plays a big part within this film. Amidst the sounds of beating, gunshots, and crying that emphasize a powerful and destructive feeling, the sound of the piano brings an unbridled feeling of hope to this film. At the beginning of the movie, Wladyslaw is seen playing Chopin s Nocturne Lento con gran espressione, this is than interrupted by the sound of bombings. Although Wladyslaw continues to play the piece it is a beautiful demonstration of how hope is portrayed in the movie. A beautiful piano piece disturbed by the sounds of bombs, gunshots, and broken glass. The film shows the audience that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Twelfth Night Viola Identity Essay Through out Shakespeare s entire Twelfths Night Act there were various roles of mistaken identities. Shakespeare often uses mistaken identity to create confusion and tangled, love triangles. This keeps his plays fresh and serves to add humor to the entertainment. (D, Jill) Viola is one of the main characters of the Twelfths Night Act we can easily reduce the amorality or her decision to dress like a young man. Her character is the center the entire plot. She seems to be the only character to truly be authentic. She also seems to be truly in love. Viola also plays the character of Cesario. At times she has problems keeping her identity being that she is in disguise. For Orsino and Olivia, Orsino starts out by professing his love for Olivia.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is odd because Sebastian and Viola are different in many ways. In Act three scene one Cesario disguised as Viola encounters a conversation with Feste and she is very pleasant like with him. When Sebastian encounters a conversation with Feste in Act four, scene one Sebastian is very bothered with Feste and doesn t give him the same treatment. This is where people start to have doubts about Cesario. Viola knows that Cesario is being mistaken for Sebastian. This is due to the fact that Viola is the only one that knows she has been disguising herself as a man and the other characters in the play do not. They believe that Cesario is actually a young man. As I stated before the mistaken identities don t come into the play unti Viola disguised as Cesario and Sebastian start to come into contact with the same situations as each other. Now that I have discussed who is mistaken for whom let me now answer the question of what do these mix ups signify? So what do these mix ups signify? We see what we see but it doesn t mean that we are seeing the real thing. Just like Cesario was a young male but it was really Viola under all of that male clothing and disguise. His predictions were not accurate as he took part of many social events, made lots of new friends, and even participated in pranks. Being the quiet, cautious person Miles is, breaking the smoking rule for the first time was way out of his comfort zone. By the later part of the 1800 s New York and Chicago were some of the largest cities in the world and both had populations that exceeded a million. With the growing population, the economy s stability began to fluctuate. The instability within the states gave rise to two distinct populations within America, the upper and the working classes. Theodore Dreiser, knowing the volatile state America was built upon, highlighted the economic differences between the wealthy and the poor in his novel Sister Carrie. During the eighteenth century, America had transformed from a simple homestead into an ornate country. They were forced to share living spaces with other families and more often than naught, had to bunk with complete strangers. The very comforts associated with a home, such as wood and furniture, were often too large of an expense. Even with Governmental / Charity handouts the citizens had no money in which they could afford better living conditions. On the others side of the unbalanced American social scale, the rich were living in superb houses and apartments that bespoke of wealth and comfort. In this movie (Twins, 1988), Julius and Vincent Benedict considered as fraternal twins. Fraternal twins are formed from two different ova fertilized by two different sperm. Compared to other rooms, it typically has a great deal more built in. Remodeling it is one of the most expensive things you can do to a house. It also has substantial impact on the environment. Why does it have so much impact on the environment? Because it is a work horse of a room. It uses a lot of energy and water to keep everyone fed. A refrigerator is one of the bigger contributors to electrical usage in your typical home, in part because you can t turn it off. It needs to be on 24/7. Doing this room right is one of the better ways to make sure the home is eco friendly. A large part of that is choosing the right appliances. On average, there are few people per house than there were in the 1950s. Lifestyles have changed and people eat out more than they used to. • 9. Three Dimensional Facial Reconstruction ( Gupta Et Al Three Dimensional Facial Reconstruction Similar to the two dimensional approach, a forensic artist and anthropologist are essential in three dimensional facial reconstruction (Gupta et al., 2015). Initiating the three dimensional reconstruction techniques, clay or plastic have been typically used to make replication of skulls (Decker, S., Davy Jow, S., Faraut, P., Ford, J., Hilbelink, D. Neville, W., 2013). This clay or plastic replication method still utilizes soft facial tissue depth markers in order to determine landmarks of the face(Nelson, L.A. Michael, S.D., 1998). In order to create a replication of the face, pieces of clay or plastic is then placed in between the landmarks that are identified until the face is filled, or close to being filled (Nelson, L.A. Michael, S.D., 1998). The process of clay or plastic replication producing a three dimensional approximation of what the individual looks like is outlined in Appendix B. There are multiple approaches to manual three dimensional facial approximation. According to Gupta et al. (2015) there three subparts to this approach. The first subpart, Anthropometrical American Method/ Tissue Depth Method , is a technique in which fine measurements were obtained by the use of needles, X rays or ultrasound... facial muscles are recorded in proper anatomical manner (Gupta et al., 2015, 27). Early on, humans may have expressed their thoughts through only body language and primitive grunts; however, as civilization progressed, humans developed intelligible language. From development of that early language, written language was sprouted. From some development of that written language, other forms of communication came into being. Today, many forms of communication exist; however, all of them center around verbal communication. In Chaim Potok s critically acclaimed novel, The Chosen, verbal communication, or the lack thereof, is a main theme. The lack of communication, silence, in The Chosen is used by Potok not only to show the suffering of his characters but also to symbolize the struggles of the Jewish people. Potok uses silence prominently in The Chosen to show isolation. Both of the protagonists in the book experience an isolating silence; for example, the silence imposed upon Danny is a main component of the novel s plot. Danny s pain and isolation is caused by his father s silence toward him. Reb Saunders, Danny s father, doesn t speak with Danny because he believes that being silent toward Danny is what is best for him; however, the other characters of the book see only that the silence causes Danny suffering. The amount of food in the world is unevenly distributed and adequately produced to satisfy the needs of humanities growing population. The hunger issue the planet is faced with can be resolved with the conservation of excess food, the increased use of Genetically Modified Foods (GMFs) and the greater funding of global relief efforts. As long as people have existed there has been a divide in wealth among them. Whether it is due to an unavoidable greediness amongst them, or just high levels of apathy toward their own kind, some have always suffered and others have prospered. He had a different conception of capitalist society than most of his contemporaries. He looked at capitalism from all the different aspects that the philosophy was made of. Some of these aspects are state power, authority, class inequality, imperialism, and bureaucracy. To understand how Weber thought one must look at each area separately then put them all together in a global package. Weber describes history in terms of the constant struggle for power. Unlike rational legal authority, traditional authority is not codified in impersonal rules but is usually invested in a hereditary line or invested in a particular office by a higher power. Finally, charismatic authority rests on the appeal of leaders who claim allegiance because of the force of their extraordinary personalities. Weber does not feel that the power of a class is a very important issue. Weber feels that classes are only important, within the struggle for power, when they state they are part of their class in their actions. Classes, along with status groups, are just passive members in society. Only if a political party solely represents the class, then it becomes active. This unimportance of classes shows Weber s feelings that the economic issues within capitalism do not effect authority or the struggle for power. Imperialism, in Weber s mind, is not a matter of economics. He states that imperialism more of a political tool. It is used as a tool of prestige for the elites and way to promote nationalism among the masses. The idea of imperialism was around before capitalism, so it is natural to Weber to say that it could not have been created by capitalism. Imperialism did, however, appeal to all members of the ruling classes. It appeals to the prestige of the old elites and it is the source of money for the new elites; but the appeal of prestige is the more important factor to Weber. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The origin of the term, however, comes from the Romantic era: an artistic movement prominent in the mid 1800s into the early 1900s. Romantic artists use elements of idealism, imagination, individuality, and often the supernatural to denounce the validity of logic and science. In these Romantic stories specifically, love ends in tragedy and at the fault of science. In the mid 1950s, the first SCN resistance soybean sources, PI 90763 and PI 84751 and cultivars Ilsoy and Peking, were identified (Ross and Brim 1957). During the last 20 years, more than 120 soybean germplasm with SCN resistance have been reported (Concibido et al. 2004; Vuong et al. 2013). However, most of them present resistance to only one or few SCN races and only eight soybean germplasm including Peking, PI 88788, and PI 437654 have widely been used for breeding programs in the US (Vuong et al. 2013). Understanding of resistance to the nematodes have remained limited because most of the reported resistance QTL have not been cloned. Also, continuous cultivation of soybean cultivars with the same resistance sources may accelerate selection pressure for SCN as well as other nematode species. Therefore, development of soybean cultivars with multiple nematodes resistance would be essential to prevent losses by the nematodes that can occur in the same field. The lack of diversity for SCN, RKN, and RN resistance source in current soybean cultivars still emphasizes the necessity of identifying new resistance genes/QTL. Therefore, continuous germplasm screening to find new germplasm and genes/QTL would be required for successful soybean breeding programs. The identification of new genetic sources with broad spectrum resistance to multiple SCN HG types, RKN and RN would be beneficial for the development of germplasm and varieties to reduce losses from these nematode species (Lee ... Pale Fire By Vladimir Nabokov Pale Fire has spawned a wide variety of interpretations and a large body of written criticism, which Finnish literary scholar Pekka Tammi estimated in 1995 as more than 80 studies.(Wiki) Although no correct interpretation exists, a strong case can be made for interpreting the novel in terms of Kinbote s insanity. His mental decline, paired with his academic unfulfillment, sparked by harsh criticism by his colleagues leads him to murder John Shade in order to obtain the author s most recent poem and redeem himself through its thoughtful commentary and analysis. This interpretation entails that the world of Zembla is entirely fictional and the comically careless assassin Gradus is nothing more but an impersonation of Kinbote s delirious... In 1977, the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs recommended a dietary guideline that limited fat intake to no more than 30% per day. According to statistics, the instances of obesity started to increase around the same time fat was villanized and low fat products became more popular. Furthermore, similar studies claim that the war on fat led people to substitute butter and lard with processed low fat food which are high in artificial flavoring and sugar. While literature contains many themes, this does not mean that other works do not contain the same ideas as presented in written works. In the three stories of The Princess Bride , Diablo 3 and Billy Budd Violence and Quests can be seen largely throughout each tale. Violence, while still having the tradition sense of the word, does not always mean fighting someone or physical attacks.
