Why Is Reconstruction Important
Ed Soriano
Black codes:
They restricted the movement of slaves and regulated slave owners. They implemented the codes
to further oppress slaves to prevent escape attempts as well as to possibly lessen the chances of
any slaves congregating in large numbers to plan revolts.
Freedmen s bureau:
Abolitionists and Republicans said that the government had a responsibility to help freed slaves of
the South in adjusting to their new freedom. The agency did not receive direct funding, and it was
expected that it would pay for itself by selling confiscated and abandoned property. At first it was
unable to pay salaries to the agents that worked there. Because of the lack of money, the bureau
failed to make a large mark throughout the South

We decided to vote positively for the leaders previously mentioned above for the policies they
supported being the very ones we supported. The Ohio carpetbaggers were members of the
republican party, a very liberal party who supported the abolitionist movement. The leaders we
voted for also shared our views as they supported the reconstruction acts and radical reconstruction.
The reconstruction acts divided the south into five districts that were temporarily governed by the
military. Without the implementation of these laws the south would have faced a difficult and
drawn out re integration that could would have spawned even more discriminatory similar to the
black codes. Also without the reconstruction acts, the drawn out integration of the south would only
further harm the already crippled post war economy. On the other hand, Nathan forest and Andrew
Johnson were against these policies, which in no way aligned with our views and would have hurt

Examples Of Self Destruction In Fahrenheit 451
In a not so distant future, where fireman burn down buildings with books inside of them, instead of
putting them out, Ray Bradbury shows the inevitability of self destruction. Montag is a fireman,
who has been questioning the ethicality of their work by secretly collecting illegal books for
months. Eventually his wife, Mildred pulls the alarm and his boss, Beatty, forces him to burn his
own house down. Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, shows how the rebirth of either an individual or
society requires self destruction through the motif of fire, which symbolizes destruction, and
Montag s burning of his own house. During the burning of Montag s old life, his tone shows the
inevitability and pleasure of self destruction. At the beginning of the

Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) is an investment firm based in Santa Monica, California. It
was founded in 1981 by David Booth and Rex Sinquefield. It is a different investment firm

relationships with academics such as Eugene Fama and Kenneth French who introduced the
Fama amp; French three factors model. Fama has worked in DFA since very early days, now he

This model is an expansion of the CAPM and it includes two additional variables, taking into
account size and book to market factors, as explanatory variables expressed within the model as
SMB and HML. The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Fama amp; French s three factors
model are both models account for the expected returns for stock albeit using different variables
to distinguish and add reliability to the predictions of these estimated returns. However, the
CAPM uses only one factor to determine the riskiness of the marketplace, Beta, whereas Fama
amp; French expands on this model, incorporate another two factors to establish the risk, Small
minus Big (SMB) and High Minus Low (HML), which take into account the relationships between
market and share size. Hence, in Fama amp; French s findings, stocks with higher beta did not
always perform better. The Three Factor Model is indeed preferred at predicting the returns of
stocks, in correlation with each models risk factor.
Moreover, although small stocks outperform large stocks in the past several years, we should not
expect small stocks to outperform large stocks in the future, because, in the future stock market,
there re quite a lot uncertainty, either, we might find the situation that a small stock can only
outperform a large stock in a specific period (i.e. government may promote some specific industry)

Essay on Stereotypes in media
Bringing Down the House featuring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah is a clever comedy that
creatively showcases the sociolinguistic phenomena covered in this course. The film is about a tax
attorney named Peter, played by Martin, who stumbles into an online lawyer chat room and meets
Charlene, played by Latifah. The two chat frequently, mostly about court cases, and eventually
decide to meet in person. When the day finally comes, Peter is greeted at the door with who he
thought would be a middle aged Caucasian woman, but happened to be Charlene, a black woman
who just escaped from prison. Thinking this was a mistake, Peter tries to kickout Charlene but is
later convinced she is the one who he was speaking with in the chat room. Charlene... Show more

In attempt to do so, he uses Sarah s language that he believes she would be more inclined to listen
to. The father s usage of the modern hip hop language is an example of generational conflict.
Implied by other clips in the movie, we conclude the father s environment as an attorney requires
him to use a more conservative language that has been more or less designated to his generation.
This contrasts with the daughters modern and hip hop language that incorporates many slang
terminologies, non standard English sentences and phrases, and a very relaxed tone. Although we
see the father is able to put a couple sentences together, everything from his tone and range
clearly show his inexperience to the speech. An example to showcase his failure is when he
attempts to say an he try da get al up in dat. The father used the same expression but with different
pronunciation. Peter says and he tried to get all up in that, which is clearly too formal for this
speech and loses the flavor of what makes the language so authentic to the hip hop generation. Peter
and Sarah both speak standard English, but this is another example of how it can vary. Even though
the two are family and from the same class, their generation gap influences the variation of English
they speak.

Why Lsd And Magic Mushrooms
Once again, eyes burning from exhaustion, fingers near whittled to the bone, heart pumping with
caffeine and nicotine, I find myself ensnared in the vast tangles of the inter web, each title ever
more enticing than the last. Peculiarly, this time it was a Time article entitled Do LSD and
Magic Mushrooms Have a Place In Medicine, by Alexandra Sifferlan. Again, my natural
instinctual wonder takes control and I click. I was surprised to see how many experts in
disarray by its schedule I illegality. The article briefly notes multiple records of scientific
research to support their articles main idea. Due to the metaphysical sense of inadequacy the
article and its references left with me, I dug harder. I checked their sources to find only dead end
paths of knowledge. Beginning to feel like a chameleon in a mirrored box, I stepped towards my
final gleam of hope. The Atlantic article Seeing Opportunity in Psychedelic Drugs, by Matt
Shiavenza, had several promising sources but alas no leads. Drenched in discouragement,
disaffected, and suffocating in a sea of endless links, the Guardianarticle Healing trip: How
psychedelic drugs could help treat depression by David Derbyshire, was the breath of sweet truth I
d been so desperately craving; pure objective data with direct in citation links to universities and
medical institutions research and journal publications. Finally, I knew the article was not delusive,
but instead, based upon inalienable scientific knowledge.

Peterloo Revolution
Discussion
Why did Parliament pass a law forbidding the breaking of factory machines?
During the Industrial Revolution, the factory machines decreased the number of workers needed to
perform certain tasks. The extraneous workers were fired, which angered the newly unemployed
factory workers. These workers then rioted in several countries, smashing the machinery that they
blamed for their unemployment. The violence from this frightened Parliament into passing the law
forbidding the destruction of factory machines.
What caused the Peterloo massacre?
During the Industrial Revolution, labor unions were illegal in England. However, the times were
hard enough that factory workers decided to join together and fight for better working conditions
anyway. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to the French promising assistance to an Irish rebellion. When poor weather prevented a
major French landing, England was able to quell the rebellion, but feared another French invasion
by way of Ireland. Hoping to ease the situation, prime minister William Pitt persuaded Parliament
to pass the Act of Union. This legislation joined all of the British Isles as the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland.
William Blake s writing contained aspects of romanticism. Describe William Blake s beliefs and
how they affected his writing?
William Blake was one of several transitionary writers between the Age of Reason and the Age of
Romanticism. He saw the poverty and suffering that surrounded him and was a supporter of the
French Revolution in its early days. He could not accept the neoclassical idea of a stable, orderly
hierarchy in the universe, but instead viewed existence as a blending of opposite poles good and
evil, innocence and experience, heaven and hell. His magnum opus Songs of Innocence and Songs
of Experience is the epitome of how his work embodied his beliefs.

Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing
Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing
Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing, a short story that has to do with the lack of interaction
and empathy between the baker, Ann and Howard, the finale where the baker is startled to find out
about the child s death, asks for mercy and presents them warm cinnamon rolls telling them that
Eating is a small, good thing in a time like this and they are comforted, reveals particular
significance of the title in terms of the story s theme. Also, Raymond Carver s Cathedral, a story that
starts with an ignorant and rude narrator whose wife has called a blind friend to spend the night at
their home and according to Carver, A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward
to, (38) has some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the baker takes all the rage thrown on him by Ann, he in return begs for forgiveness and
gives the parents what they were lacking, that is food. The baker does all this even though he is
alone and virtually makes contact with anybody.
In Raymond s Cathedral, certain similarities can be drawn from the thematic content that is
revealed in both stories. In Cathedral, the theme is expansive, but the ones that are similar in both
stories are communication, and empathy.
The communication theme in this story is much more serious than the one in A Small Good Thing,
the reason being that the narrator has less or no communication whatsoever with his wife. This is
vividly shown in the story where the narrator says When the time rolled around, my wife went to
the depot to pick him up. With nothing to do but wait, I was having a drink and watching TV. (41)
This deficiency of intimacy, intercourse led the narrator to be ignorant but very thoughtful.
However the narrator s thoughtfulness did not lead him to understand that his lack of tolerance was
much more serious than he knew it was.
In A Small Good Thing, as mentioned earlier, after Howard returns home, the baker keeps on
calling him and telling him about the cake, but Howard tells him I don t know anything about a
cake, Jesus what are you talking about? Ann never tells Howard about the cake she ordered before
Scott s accident. Here the lack of communication theme is less serious

Burtynky s Irony In Relation To The Sublime
A resolution to this problem, and a further refinement of Burtynsky s relation to the sublime,
appears in Timothy Morton s discussion of irony. Morton writes that, Irony involves distancing
and displacement, a moving from place to place, or even from homey place into lonely space
(Morton 98). This description of irony provides useful tools for understanding how Burtysnky s
photographs in OIL function in relation to the sublime. Though these descriptors typify many of
Burtysnky s photographs, examining his aerial photographs of the Alberta Oil Sands, such as
Alberta Oil Sands #10 Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, 2007 (Fig. 3) will be most productive.
These photographs are devoid of humanity yet replete with their residuum tailings ponds.... Show

Returning to Benjamin, he writes that, Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is
lacking in one element: its presence in time and space (Benjamin II) which corroborates the speaker
of the poem s stance that, Meaning takes place in time (Solie 38). Although Benjamin s thoughts
focus more on the ubiquity and lack of authenticity that occurs with mass image production and
reproduction, Bitumen shares some of these concerns, tracing the development of modern
proliferation of images from the first imagining techniques of Joseph NicГ©phore NiГ©pce, to the
photochrome postcards (32) of late 19th century, up to video sharing websites. The speaker of
Bitumen looks to construct a timeline of image mediation alongside the aestheticization of
catastrophe. Even calamitous weather events, which Bitumen ties to the unseasonable (34) weather
that results from global warming, becomes a sublime, photogenic spectacle with the ubiquity and
quotidian character of modern image and film: tornados on YouTube relieve us of our boredom (
Bitumen 33). The speaker of Bitumen argues that these mediations pacify rather than invigorate,

Relationship Between Vocabulary And Reading Comprehension
Purpose
Research conducted by the National Reading Panel shows that there is a relationship between
vocabulary and reading comprehension. The relationship between vocabulary and reading
comprehension prompted researchers to recommend educators to identify students in the early
grades with low language and vocabulary, and to intervene as soon as possible to prevent later
reading comprehension difficulties. Once educators are awareness of the students that have low
language and vocabulary, interventions should be implemented to target vocabulary development
(p.308).
A strategy identified to build vocabulary is read alouds. A read aloud is an oral readingdone by the
teacher that builds background knowledge, vocabulary and comprehension. Research shows that
although read alouds enhance vocabulary it does not close the vocabulary gap. It is suggested that
the addition of extended instruction in the form of a small group could close the vocabulary gap.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between small group instruction and
vocabulary development and reading comprehension. The author hypothesizes that students with
low vocabulary and comprehension skills will improve from extended small group instruction
(p.309).
Method
The study included 106 first graders from 18 classrooms in nine Title I schools in the Pacific
Northwest. Fifty four students were in the experiment group and received small group instruction,
and fifty two students were in the control group.

What Factors Affect Florida State Troopers
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
This study on understanding what factors influence Florida State Troopers in Orange County to
enforce the driving under the influence (DUI) statute was done in part by listening (Burns and
Anderson, 1995) to the experiences of the Florida State Troopers who have lived that experience of
DUI enforcement, and to draw common themes from these experiences. This qualitative
phenomenological study with the theoretical underpinnings of Interpretative Phenomenological
Analysis (Shinebourne, 2011) was conducted using a small sample of participants (Florida State
Troopers) who work in Orange County. The sample, n=10, consisted of Troopers whose duties
(Trochim, 2006) as Florida Highway Patrol Officers, entailed enforcement of the Florida DUI
Statute.
Introduction to the Problem
According to Burns and DiQuiano (1987), driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious crime
that contributes to approximately 9% of traffic related crashes, injuries, and fatalities in the
State of Florida. Burns and Diquiano (1987) further states that several obstacles to reducing DUI
crime in Florida during their study emerged. DUI s in Orange County were up 20% in 2014 over
2013 when there were 3031 DUI arrests or about 25 DUI s for every 10,000 residents across the
State there were 9592 DUI arrests which signifies that Orange County accounts for 32% percent of
the DUI s across the State (Swearingen, 2015).
According to Burns Diquiano (1987), the perceived obstacles to proper DUI

Convertible Bond Funds invest in bonds that can be converted into preferred or common stock.
The benefit is that if an issuing company performs well after the issuance of the convertibles, the
fund will be able to gain by converting the bonds into the now more valuable stock.
Advantages to Issuing Companies
Lower interest rate on its debt The fund is, in effect, substituting the certain stream on interest
payments for the uncertainty of the growth prospects for the uncertainty of the growth prospects of
company that issues the bonds.
They represent potential common stock This future common stock feature may be desirable for a
firm that currently needs equity capital for an investment but does not want to issue common stock
immediately because of the potential dilution before the investment begins generating earnings.
Advantages to Investors
They provide the upside potential of common stock and the downside protection of a bond The
upside potential occurs because convertible bonds contain an option to buy stock by simply
surrendering the bond. If the stock price increases, the convertible bonds gain in value due to the
increase in value of the stock into which it can be converted. The downside protection occurs
because, irrespective of what happens to the stock, the price fo the bond will not decline below
what it would be worth as a straight bond.

The Fda s New Egg Safety Final Rule
Anderson Cooper (AC): Good Evening American, and welcome to another debate. I am
Anderson Cooper and I will be your host for the evening. The good news is that this debate is not
related to the presidential election. Tonight we will be discussing a topic that I have recently
become interested in, new FDA rules especially those related to eggs. Recently, there have been
many foods borne illnesses outbreaks related to the eggindustry. Tonight we will specifically be
talking about a company called Quality Eggs and the impact the government has on the effect of
outbreaks. Besides this we will be discussing the FDA s new Egg Safety Final Rule. Tonight to
discuss these issues we have Bill Marler, a managing partner of Marler Clark, a FoodSafety Law
Firm, will argue the side of the government. Bill has represented many cases throughout his
years, and has won numerous awards including the Seattle University s Professional
Achievement Award in 2011 ( Marler Clark , n.d.) On the other side of the table tonight we have
Randal Meyer who will be representing CATO. CATO is a public policy organization that works
to educate people on their freedoms. CATO receives no government funding, and is supported
mostly by tax deductible contributions and support from various contributors ( About CATO ,
n.d.). Now that we know a little bit about the two people participating in the debate let s start the
debate. Good evening gentlemen are you both ready to debate the new egg safety laws?

RCMS Suport Requirement of University of Southern California
University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central
resources to accommodate and support the requirements of the whole university. It was called
RCMS. According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective
system. However, the committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the
system named as perverse incentives , including discouragement of innovations, raising the barriers
on multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and encouragement of
manipulation of the financial data.
Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed
on deans was forcing them to be concern about the financial aspects of their decisions rather than
focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated
because the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new
ideas which might not be profitable in the short term. However, neglecting these ideas will threaten
the university s long term profit.
Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches
require different perspectives, skills and expertise, which could only be acquired by a team work
of a group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even
before implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems

Operating costs as a function of sales have seen an increase year over year with quite a bit of
absolute percentage volatility. These costs alone accounting for 105%, 124%, and 108% of total
revenues for 2009, 2010, and 2011, respectively. If these were primarily variable costs, then with
the reduction in total revenues these should have decreased as well somewhat proportionately.
With production, distribution, and editorial costs comprising over 50% as a function of sales,
MSLO is not controlling key product amp; distribution costs in a manner that will help increase
their profit margins and possibly take them back to profitability. Because of this, the entities ability
to continue as a going concern is questionable. With three years of massive losses and an
accumulated deficit reaching almost $200 million, MSLO benefits from having an equity
multiplier of ~1.46. The lack of liquidity issues ensures that MSLO can continue operating a net
loss for a while longer. The flat growth/decay in general and administrative expenses indicates the
firm is maintaining the same level of salary for a contracting business.
In order to rein in the risks of not continuing on as a going concern, MSLO needs to focus on
serious cost stabilizing and cutting. If their fixed costs are such a large percentage of their cost
structure, fluctuations in volume output will have a larger impact on earnings before interest and
taxes. The larger the volatility of sales puts MSLO in a position that

The Summary Of Air France Flight 447
Air France Flight 447 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Paris, France Incident Summary The following
information is based on the findings of the BEA (Bureau d EnquГЄtes et d Analyses) (2012); On
May 31, 2009, Air France flight 447, an Airbus A330, took off from Rio de Janeiro enroute to
Paris, France. After a normal departure the crew climbed to their cruising altitude of FL350. The
captain was designated as the pilot monitoring (not flying) and the first officer was the pilot flying.
About 3 hours into the flight the crew noticed some weather ahead and began to encounter slight
turbulence. Due to performance limitation on the aircraft the crew was unable to climb above the
weather. The turbulence increased slightly as the flight continued, but less than 10 minutes later
the turbulence stopped. Once clear of the turbulence the captain woke the second first officer to
take his place. The captain stayed while the first officer briefed the second officer, then exited the
cockpit. The first officer (pilot flying) occupied the left seat, while the second officer (pilot
monitoring) occupied the right seat. Shortly there after, the turbulence increased slightly. The first
officer and second officer made the decision to slow from Mach 0.82 to Mach 0.80 and to turn
about 12 degrees left of course. About two minutes later the autopilot and auto thrust disconnected.
As the first officer took the controls the aircraft began to roll right, so he rolled the aircraft to the
left and pitched up.

The Role Of Dhs And Its Political Environment
It is the responsibility of the Government to provide security to its people. The Department of
Homeland Security DHS was formed after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Before the attacks,
independent agencies handled homeland security. The DHS was formed to have most of these
agencies work together under one management to secure America.
This paper will argue the role of DHS and its political environment and how it achieves its goals of
protecting America by working within its current environment. The political environment of DHS
is Majoritarian where both the benefits and the costs are spread over most or all of the population
and the agency is able to perform in that certain environment.
Agency:
The creation of DHS was the result of the tragic events of 9/11. The department was formed in
2002 and is a combination of twenty two agencies. Some of the prominent ones are, The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard, and the
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). The President of United States appoints the
secretary to oversee the work of DHS.
The Political Environment and the Distribution of Costs and Benefits:
Homeland Security is a highly decentralized activity
The Federal Government cannot do the job of securing America by itself. The state and local
governments and the private sector are all involved in the process. Government s responsibility is to
minimize terrorist threats, reduce the cost of any attacks, and

that addresses the issue in how to allocate capital (or resources) among competing investment

(Lorie amp; Savage, 1955, p. 234) Turns out this is an Integer Programming optimization problem
as it has identified constraints with the end output being to either accept an investment (using the
integer 1), or decline (using the integer 0). Since the Lagrange Multipliers are real values, this is
more specifically classified as a Mixed Integer Programming problem. (Trick, 1998) Their research
proved to be revolutionary as this strayed from the traditional accepted method in using IRR, and
this research has evolved since. One example of this is demonstrated where Seymour Kaplan
introduced the concept of applying the Generalized Lagrange Multiplier (G.L.M.) method with
Integer Programming, using the Lorie Savage problem as a basis for comparison, that found
favorable results in the effectiveness of G.L.M. in producing optimal solutions using NPV to make
investment decisions. (Kaplan, 1966, p. 1136) Building on this research was the introduction of
using genetic algorithms (GA) to solve capital budgeting problems in allowing financial analysts to
find optimal investment combinations for various situations, such as the multiple tax structures a
company may encounter. (Berry amp; Manongga, 2006, p. 96) Expanding on the GA
implementation was research conducted that incorporated fuzzy set theory on problems when
investment parameters contained scant or vague information and therefore had great uncertainty.

Understanding Cultural Identity
Understanding Your Cultural Identity Children begin to develop a sense of identity as
individuals and as members of groups from their earliest interactions with others (McAdoo, 1993;
Sheets, 1999a) (Trumbull and Pacheco 9). The very idea of being able to understand your own
culture can better you as a person and give you an even deeper understanding of life. Such cultural
things you should understand is your beliefs, the types of food you eat, what types of ethnicity
they belong to, and even where you live. These four things can give you a deeper understanding of
your own culture. Now a day cultures are mixed it is said that Not all of these aspects need to be
shared, however, for people to psychologically identify with a particular ethnic... Show more

Descriptive Essay About My Old Dog
I felt the coldness of the November winds pass through my headphones as I was getting the car
to go to Petco. I don t know why I wanted to go I guess I just agreed to go cause everyone else
was, It s not like we were going to get a pet anyway. Everyone was talking I wasn t paying
attention. I was just staring and imagining that everyone was racing to get to one place. My
sister started to try and get my attention. Hey Will, when we get there do you wanna see the fish
with me? . Sure, I said just thinking about my old dog and how I would ride on her when I was
really young and weighed less than her. Her name was Samantha, Sam. I loved her more than
anything even more than my parents. When we had to put her down I was heart broken. I
would never feel the way I felt with her ever again. Even just thinking of her makes me sad now,
until I saw her. I stepped out of my car thinking about Sam. Ashley, do you ever think of Sam, I
said without getting teary eyed. Will, you know we all do. She responded, and she was right, I
always dreamed that Sam would come back. As I stepped inside I looked at the tall shelves filled
with animal materials. I walked around in the bird sections and tried to get the birds to talk to me.
The fur of the birds looked sleek every feather more pretty than the next. I next when down to the
fish aquarium thing. The aquarium had nice red tiles with looked like they were just mopped.
Then... HONK! It sounded like something was outside. I bolted

The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692
The Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, which resulted in 19 executions, and 150 accusations of
witchcraft, are one of the historical events almost everyone has heard of. They began when three
young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam began to have hysterical fits, after
being discovered engaging in forbidden fortune telling (not dancing naked in the woods) to learn
what sorts of men they would marry. Betty s father, the Reverend Samuel Parris, called in more
senior authorities to determine if the girls affliction was caused by witchcraft. Although Betty was
sent away fairly soon, and did not participate in the trials, the other girls were joined by other young

Whereas in the past everyone in a locality had followed the same religion, people were now
exposed to Christianity and the local religions of people who had moved to their region, or
whose regions they had moved to. In the cities of central and southern Africa, many local
religions and Christian sects could be found, as well as Islam. Belief in witchcraft tended to unite
people across religious differences. Typically, the names brought to witch finders were those of
the same sort of local enemies we have become familiar with in reading about the Azande. As the
frenzy increased, people began to be accused who had not aroused any particular jealousies,
possibly because they possessed a peculiar bag or horn, which might be said to contain medicine in
one reported case, such a container did indeed contain medicine but ordinary physical medicine, not
magical substances. These crazes tended to die down, often after considerable conflict and property
damage, and the witch finders would then move on to the next town. As witchcraft accusations still
occur in the area, we can conclude that the movements did not get rid of witches forever, nor, unlike
the situation Salem or Europe, did belief in witchcraft itself actually end with the witch crazes.
The actual execution of witches was not usually a feature in African witchcraft, so there was
probably less to repent in the end, though there

The Core Elements Of The Registered Pension Plan
Individual Pension Plan Background As a baseline to understanding an IPP, it is critical to
establish some of the core elements of the registered pension plan (RPP) regime. AN IPP is
essentially a defined benefit pension plan (DB) setup by an employer with a limited number of
designated beneficiaries (e.g. directors and officers) or possibly, a single beneficiary (owner
manager). It requires registration with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) with ongoing maintenance
and compliance in accordance with the Act. Failure to comply with rules set forth in the ITA
could result in revocation or deregistration, which consequently could lead to unfavorable tax
consequences. The plan must be sponsored and funded by a corporation with funding possibly
also coming from employees. In general, DB plans offer employees specific future pension
benefits upon retirement, typically calculated on the basis of a percentage of their employment
income over their service period. IPP subscribers have additional confidence in knowing that their
post employment benefits will be fixed in value each year which eliminates the uncertainty and
concerns raised with retirement investments premised on the performance of capital markets.
Pension plans are in the purview of either provincial or federal legislation; however, the scope of
this discussion is confined to the Act. Perhaps the most attractive feature of an IPP is that for the
right individual(s), it is a more effective tax planning vehicle by

Speech On Teenagers
Taking the mask off: It s time to stop being someone we aren t
In today s day and age, there s a common problem that each teenger inevitably faces along the
way through adolescence. We try to find out who we are and what we want to become, but this
is becoming ever more difficult. Nowadays in the age of technology, we have thousands of
people around that rub off on us one way or the other. We have all of these influences around us,
most of whom are either non beneficial or unattainable. These, along with the ever present peer
pressure, make us become someone that s far away from who we really are, something that we
should attempt to move on from. It seems like today the overwhelming question for teenagers is
should they put on a fake persona for the sake of being accepted or live every day unfiltered at the
risk of being scrutinized?
When we step outside the friendly confines of our home, we prepare a face to show to the rest of
the world, one that shows we are living a great life and having everything going right for us. We
are expected to always put on a persona and show that our lives our great. On social media, we
all post pictures of us in our best moments; We show when we re on vacation, when we re at a
bonfire with friends, or when we re sitting in the suite level at a sporting event. However, we
never show the negatives; the times when we get a bad grade, a family member is sick, or an
argument between you and a friend. I know I do the same things

Prisoner s Dilemma Examples

rational self interested people all do worse by independently pursuing self interest. The prisoner s
dilemma refers to a conflict in doing what is best for one s own interest over what is in the best
interest of the group; therefore, doing what is needed to receive the least amount of jail time for
oneself. In the end, each of the prisoners does better by failing to cooperate, but not as good if they
had just cooperated with their agreement between each other and stayed silent. This type of
dilemma happens throughout all of society between individuals, groups, companies, and countries.

Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay
For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were
the reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known
problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage,
now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many
different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then
but decades before. As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them
only worsened the situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked

The churches collect tithes and since the right to collect tithes was owned by both the lay

Second, how seigneurialism did not get rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to
get more power. Over time it shifted from feudalism to more of a financial relationship since the
lords wanted more money and they couldn t tax serfs who didn t get paid. The seigneurs had
many rights such over extensive land, an annual rent, a share of harvest; fee if land has changed
hands or inherited would be paid by past serfs. They also had rights over the game in their land
forbidding peasants from killing anything without privilege, as well as the right to ride over

another problem that occurred during that time was a drought. France ran into a few climatic

IT 650 Principles of Database Design
Database Normalization
Srikanth Karra
Southern New Hampshire University Normalization:
It is used to lower the database redundancy to keep database consistency for long term.
Normalization is the set of rules and protocol that defines how the information should be stored into
database entities. This process increases the number of database objects (entities) by dividing one
database table in to multiple smaller table with proper link (Relationship) in between them. There
are myriads of advantages for normalizing database, few are as follows:
It removes repeated or duplicate entries of database
It improves the memory storage by avoiding duplicate entries.

De normalization:
It removes the relationship or primary foreign key constraints from a database tables. This is
normally used whenever there is an alteration of database design is needed. Altering or
modifying database schema some time requires a break in the relationship of two or more
entities. For example when there is a need to change the type of a foreign key then its referring
primary key has to be first changed to the required type. This can only happen if both the table
losses the relationship. The major use of de normalization is to increase the performance of the
database. For a large amount of database system performance is at priority hence de normalization
is one of the method to optimize the database

Character Analysis Of Shinji Ikari
That all being said, let s discuss each character in further detail to provide better insight as to why
their faults are necessary plot devices to tell a larger story (i.e. the central story).
Shinji The reserved, self loathing protagonist, Shinji Ikari, epitomizes the introvert personality by
concealing his true identity a la the hedgehog s dilemma (first introduced by philosopher Arthur
Schopenhauer). Just a brief reminder for anyone who hasn t watched the show for quite some time,
as this concept is fundamental in understanding our main character, the premise of this theory goes
as follows: forging intimate relationships, despite our best intentions, causes shared emotional pain;
therefore, provoking guarded behavior and overall weaker relationships due to the lack of intimacy.
This explains Shinji s maladroit encounters with female characters in the show, and his reluctancy
to solidify lasting relationships. He has become content to live in the imaginary shell that is his
happy place, believing that expressing his true self will cause unintended harm to others and
himself. Hideaki Anno, to his credit, overlaid his permeating depression into a fourteen year old
character, that, for the most part, comes through as feeling authentic. This is not your prototypical
action hero who possesses an indomitable will to overcome any, and all challenges; rather, Shinji,
on countless occasions, shows signs of regression, a trait that is synonymous with the human
condition. He

The First Lord Baltimore was a man known as George Calvert. He lived 1580 to 1632. He was
one of the first men who dreamed of a colony where all Christians, those being Prodestants and

The Effects Of Video Games On The Psyche Of Kids And...
Since video games are a relatively new medium of artistic expression and entertainment, not
much is known about the effects of continual exposure to them, especially at a young age. The
effects of violent media on the psyche of kids and adolescents has been a pressing concern for
many years now, as stated in a study conducted by Tortolero et al. (2014), where it is observed
that most other studies done on the subject of video games were mainly focused on aggression
(p.609). In the current attempt to identify a relationship between video games and the attitudes
of youths, the researchers have decided to instead focus on levels of depressive symptoms and
the amount of time spent playing video games through a cross sectional analysis (Tortolero et al.,
p.609). The researchers have focused on the branch of psychology focused on mental health,
clinical psychology (King, 2014, p.16), and the psychological problems associated with prolonged
exposure to violent video games, specifically in preadolescents. The study was meant to observe
the levels of depressive symptoms in children who played violent video games using the Major
Depressive DisorderScale of the DISC Predictive Scales to identify these symptoms which included
lack of pleasure, lack of interest in activities, concentration difficulties, low energy, low self worth,
and suicidal ideation (Tortelo et al., 2014, p.610 611).

Microeconomic Principles
I.DEFINITIONS Net Profit Margin (NPM) NPM of a firm is simply the percentage of net
income (NI) from total operating revenue (TOR). This indicates, after subtracting tax, how
much profit the firm has generated. For example, if IKEA accumulates, over a single period,
total sales revenue of $100M, but recapitalizes part of that income (about $50M), and needs to pay
tax of 40% of the earnings, it will end up with a free cash flow of $30M. NPM is simply $30M
/ $100M x 100%, which equals 30%. Capital Capital includes any long term assets that are
invested into an organization for it to be able to run its operations, whether providing goods or
services. For example, if there is a start up pizza restaurant, it will require a capital... Show more

Monopoly A monopoly of a market will exist when three attributes are identified: there is only
one producer, there are barriers to enter such a market, and there are no close substitutes for the
product. This produces a perfectly inelastic demand curve. In a hypothetical example, Schrute
Farms is a large coffee bean producer. It is a family business and has been for years, and it does
not produce its coffee beans unless these are cooked and in a state that they can t be replanted to
yield any crop, thus maintaining its exclusivity for the product. Business Profit versus Economic
Profits Business profit or accounting profit is simply the net income of a company (total revenue
minus total expenses), however an economic profit is a tougher profit to achieve. This is because it

Descriptive Essay On A Game At A Volleyball Game
Michigan Tech Volleyball Game
The ball whipped through the air, echoing through the gym like the snap from a leather whip.
Lauren, our libero, had served. I glanced at the flashing scoreboard and winced at the score: 21 23.
The other team had received the ball and were ready to set their outside hitter. Their hitter made a
lightning fast approach and the ball spun through the air over to our side, aimed right at me.
This was my first volleyball camp at Michigan Tech University this summer and I was ready.
Coaches sorted us into teams, taught us some intermediate skills revolving around the technique
of the game, and scrimmaging from time to time. My team leader was Ali Gerring, a recent
graduate from Kingsford. We did bump set spike drills and six different rotations to get ready for
our big scrimmage the next day. You could see the sweat glistening on our faces, and smell the
hard determination to improve. You could hear players call for the ball at every court yelling, Mine,
mine mine!
At every practice there were different stations specializing in hitting (spiking), digging (bumping),
and setting. We peppered with partners at some stations and practiced serving at others. Our
forearms were turning scarlet from digging so many balls and our necks started to ache after
craning our necks so many times setting the ball. We had to pick which position we wanted to play
in the game and I picked outside hitter (player that spikes) because I wanted to be the one that would

Art And Cultural Changes In America
This week s paper will be about the change of views in America and how art and culture along
with changes in technology helped America grow. The world s fair in Chicago in 1893 was the
400 year anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovering the new world. The buildings were
made from a variety of materials. I hope you enjoy this essay.
The first topic will be the World s fair of 1893. Like I started to say in my beginning paragraph
the 400th year anniversary of Christopher Columbus arrival in America. The exhibits were all
made to represent the 50 states and the different cultures for all the world to see. This was a key
time in American history with a vast number of immigrants coming over to America. So, these were

Now the ashcan school was more of a painting revolution. It focused a lot on New York citys
everyday life and the struggle especially in the poorer neighborhoods.
The ashcan school took the innovations in brushes and paints to show realism. Now the last
subject I d like to talk about is how art reflects the society we live in. I believe that all forms of
art are a reflection of what s going on in society at that time like the ashcan school like I
mentioned before focused on the economic hardships in New York city. The paintings from John
Sloan come to mind as they were of everyday people in bars and restaurants which like I said
before were the place to be and showed how society was in that era from the clothes to the food
and drink I think John Sloan captured that image perfectly. George Bellowswas also great at
capturing the current events I saw one painting called
Tennis in Newport. The painting showed just how the rich lived back in the Gilded age despite the
economic struggles in many big cities at the time. So, as you can tell this time in American history
was very crucial to the foundation of a growing

Do Animals Use Some Properties of Human Language
Are there special properties of human language or can they be found in the communication systems
of other creatures? Philip Tweedle
This essay will discuss whether six of Hockett s design features, which are properties of language,
are exclusively human or can they be found in other creatures communications. For each of the
features, the communication of wild apes, trained apes and humans will be compared. This will not
be based solely on vocal communication, but explore the research into signing and pointing apes
(apes using symbols on a keyboard, Aitchison, 2008). The first reason to discuss this, is because
human language is not restricted to vocal communication: we can use sign language and the written
word. The second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pointing method is not subject to rapid fade because the keyboard is connected to a computer
and the typed information is stored in the computer s memory. For the purposes of the experiment
with Lana, all the sequences she wrote were stored for the ease of collating and analysing data at
the end of the experiment.
The fifth feature to compare is reciprocity. This is where any sender of a language signal could
also be the receiver, and features in both human and apes. Communication is only truly reciprocal
when the receiver knows the language used by the sender: if an Englishman shouted to Frenchman
the receiver would not be able to understand the message and therefore would not be able to
respond to the original call. In the case of the trained chimps, Lana who used pictograms on a
screen, would not be able to communicate with Washoe, who was trained with signs.
The sixth design feature, and maybe the most important, is Prevarication: the ability to lie and
deceive. This shows a deliberate intent and intelligence, and is found in both humans and apes in
the wild, but not in the signing and pointing chimps. The ability to deceive in wild apes is found
within the social context in which they live for example: juvenile baboons have been reported
effectively to use a scream of fear to

Comparing Crime And Punishment By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The novel Crime and Punishment written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky explores the idea that sin will
continually erode your soul away. The main protagonists are a murderer named Rodion
Romanovich Raskolnikov, and the girl he falls in love with, Sonia Semyonovna Marmeladov.
Both Sonia and Rodion lead very different lives; it is evident how convictions and beliefs guide
the way these two characters live their lives. Sonia believes in the New Testament, and reads it
regularly, and also believes that through faith comes death to the old self, and eternal life through
Christ. Sonia s christian convictions affect her love for people, her self sacrifice, and her firm
foundation in Christ. Sonia is devoted to people by faithfully loving them despite their brokenness.

As Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov goes to confess his murder to the town government, Sonia
gifts him a cypress cross to remind him of why he is telling the authorities. Sonia says to
Rodion, Go at once, this very minute, stand at the cross roads, bow down, first kiss the earth
which you have defiled and then bow down to all the world and say to all men aloud, I am a
murderer! Then God will send you life again (Dostoyevsky 302). Regardless of the murderer
Raskolnikov is, Sonia still loves him without end. In addition to loving Raskolnikov, Sonia also
loves her dad unconditionally. Before his death, her father, Marmeladov was s drunkard. He is
unwilling to provide for his family. Sonia gave her father money regularly, even though she knew
he would drink his money away. Sonia shows her devotion to others by lovingly caring for others.
Crime and Punishment shows Sonia as, ...the daughter who gave herself up for the cross,
consumptive step mother and for little children of another... the daughter who had pity upon the
filthy drunkard, her earthly father, undismayed by his beastliness (Dovesty 14). In addition to Sonia

Difference Between Prehistory And Pre History
First Long Exam
1.History vs Prehistory
a.What is prehistory and how is this concept or term defined?
Prehistory is a discipline where it composed of series of events happened during the time where
writing was not yet used to record those events. The word itself means before history for it is
associated with the prefix pre which means before yet it was really the combination of the Latin
word prae that means before and the Greek word О№ПѓП„ОїПЃОЇО± which means history. These
are the events that happened in times where in writing was not yet used to record these events.
Events are just based on either being told, predicted or believed by the people from long time ago
and evidences of this events came from excavation of fossils and discovery of materials in places
believed to be the place inhibited by the prehistoric people. It is a discipline where in trained and
knowledgeable people in this field are the ones who can interpret, analyze and predict ... Show more

Opinion Section
At present, how good are we in knowing and understanding our country s history? What is lacking
in the study of Philippine history and what should be done to improve our grasp of our own
history? Who or what is/are at fault in the continuous failure of the Philippines in correcting many
of the errors in the writing of its history?
Honestly speaking, most of us do not pay attention to the history of our country resulting to less
understanding about it. Philippine History need to be understood and should be thought by the
ones who understands it. Our failure is that we just let anybody tell the history of the Philippines
without fully understanding the History. This results to passing the wrong information about the
history of the Philippines to others and a lot of versions of history that made the History of the
Philippines complicated.

Racial Diversity In Social Media
In todays world of near total dependence on the internet, it becomes increasingly noticed that our
popular culture is defined by the racially diverse nature of most social media platforms. Social
media is well known as a catalyst for any activism or social reformation movements that occur
nearly every day around the world. Platforms such as Facebook or Twitter often start debates over
things that happen online, on television, or in the real world. Those who use interactive multimedia
are very racially diverse and bring unique ideas and arguments to the international community of
the internet. However, it is apparent that both Twitter and Facebook have varied approaches when
inviting those of racial diversity onto their platforms and making them feel welcomed there. It has
become an accepted business practice to meet a certain quota of hiring from diverse racial groups.
This trend of identifying racial diversity began with the idea of setting targets has its roots in
affirmative action policies in the US and South Africa (Jacobs, 1). Previous social movements
resulted in the push to identify numbers regarding grouping those of different ethnic groups. As of
the year 2016, the United States government issued a three hundred dollar diversity fund (Jacobs, 2)
to identify the rate of hiring diverse groupings. Companies began to feel pressure from social
activism resulting in this new quota that they must meet to stay respected within the community of
those who fight for diversity on the internet.
While the expansion of hiring those of diverse brackets can create a positive professional and
educational atmosphere, it can also create a feeling of tension between those separate groups. It
is feared that meeting the diversity percentage issued by the United States government may
overshadow those who may work hard for a job or college acceptance. However, by employing a
diverse workforce, a company has the ability to have different perspective on racially sensitive
topics. If someone of similar racial backgrounds marketed a product used predominantly by one race
, then it would result in the possibility of increased sales. Both Facebook and Twitter have been
feuding over power and recognition since the 2000 s as

Analysis Of I Am Waiting
American politics has proved to be flawed in structure over, and over again. Although our founding
fathers had the best intentions when they implemented democracy, they like most modern day
politicians, failed to actually make things better. Yes we gained our Independence, but with the
ability to make our own choices we tend to make childish and impulsive decisions. The election of
Donald Trumpstands to be the most recent of those mistakes, and the politicians who work for him
are either blinded or full of regret. Poets Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Robert Lowell paint vivid
pictures of these very mistakes that seem to recur with the thought of democracy.
More often than not we elect our President based on the changes he promises to deliver once in
office. Lawrence Ferlinghetti s poem titled I Am Waiting is a perfect example of those broken
promises. The poem discusses how he s waiting for the American dream to manifest itself. The
dream of freedom and equality in a place where our elected officials actually work for us, rather
than against us. You know he s talking about these things in the allusions he makes to the
Mayflower and the Western frontier. He says,
And I am waiting / for a rebirth of wonder / and I am waiting for someone / to really discover
America/ and wail/ The poem ends with Ferlinghetti waiting forever and constantly seeking change
similar to American citizens wishing and waiting for the same.
The citizens of this beauty we call the United States have

They implemented the codes to further oppress slaves to prevent escape attempts as well as to possibly lessen the chances of any slaves congregating in large numbers to plan revolts. Freedmen s bureau: Abolitionists and Republicans said that the government had a responsibility to help freed slaves of the South in adjusting to their new freedom. The agency did not receive direct funding, and it was expected that it would pay for itself by selling confiscated and abandoned property. The reconstruction acts divided the south into five districts that were temporarily governed by the military. Without the implementation of these laws the south would have faced a difficult and drawn out re integration that could would have spawned even more discriminatory similar to the black codes. Examples Of Self Destruction In Fahrenheit 451 In a not so distant future, where fireman burn down buildings with books inside of them, instead of putting them out, Ray Bradbury shows the inevitability of self destruction. Montag is a fireman, who has been questioning the ethicality of their work by secretly collecting illegal books for months. Eventually his wife, Mildred pulls the alarm and his boss, Beatty, forces him to burn his own house down. Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, shows how the rebirth of either an individual or society requires self destruction through the motif of fire, which symbolizes destruction, and Montag s burning of his own house. The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Fama amp; French s three factors model are both models account for the expected returns for stock albeit using different variables to distinguish and add reliability to the predictions of these estimated returns. However, the CAPM uses only one factor to determine the riskiness of the marketplace, Beta, whereas Fama amp; French expands on this model, incorporate another two factors to establish the risk, Small minus Big (SMB) and High Minus Low (HML), which take into account the relationships between market and share size. Hence, in Fama amp; French s findings, stocks with higher beta did not always perform better. The Three Factor Model is indeed preferred at predicting the returns of stocks, in correlation with each models risk factor. Moreover, although small stocks outperform large stocks in the past several years, we should not expect small stocks to outperform large stocks in the future, because, in the future stock market, there re quite a lot uncertainty, either, we might find the situation that a small stock can only outperform a large stock in a specific period (i.e. government may promote some specific industry) or it contains ... Essay on Stereotypes in media Bringing Down the House featuring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah is a clever comedy that creatively showcases the sociolinguistic phenomena covered in this course. The film is about a tax attorney named Peter, played by Martin, who stumbles into an online lawyer chat room and meets Charlene, played by Latifah. The two chat frequently, mostly about court cases, and eventually decide to meet in person. When the day finally comes, Peter is greeted at the door with who he thought would be a middle aged Caucasian woman, but happened to be Charlene, a black woman who just escaped from prison. In attempt to do so, he uses Sarah s language that he believes she would be more inclined to listen to. The father s usage of the modern hip hop language is an example of generational conflict. Implied by other clips in the movie, we conclude the father s environment as an attorney requires him to use a more conservative language that has been more or less designated to his generation. This contrasts with the daughters modern and hip hop language that incorporates many slang terminologies, non standard English sentences and phrases, and a very relaxed tone. Although we see the father is able to put a couple sentences together, everything from his tone and range clearly show his inexperience to the speech. An example to showcase his failure is when he attempts to say an he try da get al up in dat. The father used the same expression but with different pronunciation. Peter says and he tried to get all up in that, which is clearly too formal for this speech and loses the flavor of what makes the language so authentic to the hip hop generation. Peter and Sarah both speak standard English, but this is another example of how it can vary. Even though the two are family and from the same class, their generation gap influences the variation of English they speak. During the Industrial Revolution, the factory machines decreased the number of workers needed to perform certain tasks. The extraneous workers were fired, which angered the newly unemployed factory workers. These workers then rioted in several countries, smashing the machinery that they blamed for their unemployment. The violence from this frightened Parliament into passing the law forbidding the destruction of factory machines. What caused the Peterloo massacre? In Raymond s Cathedral, certain similarities can be drawn from the thematic content that is revealed in both stories. In Cathedral, the theme is expansive, but the ones that are similar in both stories are communication, and empathy. The communication theme in this story is much more serious than the one in A Small Good Thing, the reason being that the narrator has less or no communication whatsoever with his wife. This is vividly shown in the story where the narrator says When the time rolled around, my wife went to the depot to pick him up. With nothing to do but wait, I was having a drink and watching TV. This description of irony provides useful tools for understanding how Burtysnky s photographs in OIL function in relation to the sublime. Though these descriptors typify many of Burtysnky s photographs, examining his aerial photographs of the Alberta Oil Sands, such as Alberta Oil Sands #10 Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, 2007 (Fig. 3) will be most productive. • 10. Relationship Between Vocabulary And Reading Comprehension Purpose Research conducted by the National Reading Panel shows that there is a relationship between vocabulary and reading comprehension. The relationship between vocabulary and reading comprehension prompted researchers to recommend educators to identify students in the early grades with low language and vocabulary, and to intervene as soon as possible to prevent later reading comprehension difficulties. Once educators are awareness of the students that have low language and vocabulary, interventions should be implemented to target vocabulary development (p.308). A strategy identified to build vocabulary is read alouds. A read aloud is an oral readingdone by the teacher that builds background knowledge, vocabulary and comprehension. Research shows that although read alouds enhance vocabulary it does not close the vocabulary gap. It is suggested that the addition of extended instruction in the form of a small group could close the vocabulary gap. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between small group instruction and vocabulary development and reading comprehension. The author hypothesizes that students with low vocabulary and comprehension skills will improve from extended small group instruction (p.309). Method The study included 106 first graders from 18 classrooms in nine Title I schools in the Pacific Northwest. Fifty four students were in the experiment group and received small group instruction, and fifty two students were in the control group. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTRODUCTION This study on understanding what factors influence Florida State Troopers in Orange County to enforce the driving under the influence (DUI) statute was done in part by listening (Burns and Anderson, 1995) to the experiences of the Florida State Troopers who have lived that experience of DUI enforcement, and to draw common themes from these experiences. This qualitative phenomenological study with the theoretical underpinnings of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (Shinebourne, 2011) was conducted using a small sample of participants (Florida State Troopers) who work in Orange County. The sample, n=10, consisted of Troopers whose duties (Trochim, 2006) as Florida Highway Patrol Officers, entailed enforcement of the Florida DUI Statute. Introduction to the Problem According to Burns and DiQuiano (1987), driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious crime that contributes to approximately 9% of traffic related crashes, injuries, and fatalities in the State of Florida. Burns and Diquiano (1987) further states that several obstacles to reducing DUI crime in Florida during their study emerged. DUI s in Orange County were up 20% in 2014 over 2013 when there were 3031 DUI arrests or about 25 DUI s for every 10,000 residents across the State there were 9592 DUI arrests which signifies that Orange County accounts for 32% percent of the DUI s across the State (Swearingen, 2015). RCMS Suport Requirement of University of Southern California University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central resources to accommodate and support the requirements of the whole university. It was called RCMS. According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective system. However, the committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the system named as perverse incentives , including discouragement of innovations, raising the barriers on multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and encouragement of manipulation of the financial data. Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed on deans was forcing them to be concern about the financial aspects of their decisions rather than focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated because the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new ideas which might not be profitable in the short term. However, neglecting these ideas will threaten the university s long term profit. Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches require different perspectives, skills and expertise, which could only be acquired by a team work of a group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even before implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Lorie amp; Savage, 1955, p. 234) Turns out this is an Integer Programming optimization problem as it has identified constraints with the end output being to either accept an investment (using the integer 1), or decline (using the integer 0). Since the Lagrange Multipliers are real values, this is more specifically classified as a Mixed Integer Programming problem. (Trick, 1998) Their research proved to be revolutionary as this strayed from the traditional accepted method in using IRR, and this research has evolved since. One example of this is demonstrated where Seymour Kaplan introduced the concept of applying the Generalized Lagrange Multiplier (G.L.M.) method with Integer Programming, using the Lorie Savage problem as a basis for comparison, that found favorable results in the effectiveness of G.L.M. in producing optimal solutions using NPV to make investment decisions. I don t know why I wanted to go I guess I just agreed to go cause everyone else was, It s not like we were going to get a pet anyway. Everyone was talking I wasn t paying attention. I was just staring and imagining that everyone was racing to get to one place. My sister started to try and get my attention. Hey Will, when we get there do you wanna see the fish with me? . Sure, I said just thinking about my old dog and how I would ride on her when I was really young and weighed less than her. Her name was Samantha, Sam. I loved her more than anything even more than my parents. When we had to put her down I was heart broken. I would never feel the way I felt with her ever again. Even just thinking of her makes me sad now, until I saw her. I stepped out of my car thinking about Sam. Ashley, do you ever think of Sam, I said without getting teary eyed. Will, you know we all do. She responded, and she was right, I always dreamed that Sam would come back. As I stepped inside I looked at the tall shelves filled with animal materials. I walked around in the bird sections and tried to get the birds to talk to me. The fur of the birds looked sleek every feather more pretty than the next. I next when down to the fish aquarium thing. Essay The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692 The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692 The Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, which resulted in 19 executions, and 150 accusations of witchcraft, are one of the historical events almost everyone has heard of. They began when three young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam began to have hysterical fits, after being discovered engaging in forbidden fortune telling (not dancing naked in the woods) to learn what sorts of men they would marry. Betty s father, the Reverend Samuel Parris, called in more senior authorities to determine if the girls affliction was caused by witchcraft. Whereas in the past everyone in a locality had followed the same religion, people were now exposed to Christianity and the local religions of people who had moved to their region, or whose regions they had moved to. In the cities of central and southern Africa, many local religions and Christian sects could be found, as well as Islam. Belief in witchcraft tended to unite people across religious differences. Typically, the names brought to witch finders were those of the same sort of local enemies we have become familiar with in reading about the Azande. As the frenzy increased, people began to be accused who had not aroused any particular jealousies, possibly because they possessed a peculiar bag or horn, which might be said to contain medicine in one reported case, such a container did indeed contain medicine but ordinary physical medicine, not magical substances. These crazes tended to die down, often after considerable conflict and property damage, and the witch finders would then move on to the next town. As witchcraft accusations still occur in the area, we can conclude that the movements did not get rid of witches forever, nor, unlike the situation Salem or Europe, did belief in witchcraft itself actually end with the witch crazes. The actual execution of witches was not usually a feature in African witchcraft, so there was probably less to repent in the end, though there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The Core Elements Of The Registered Pension Plan Individual Pension Plan Background As a baseline to understanding an IPP, it is critical to establish some of the core elements of the registered pension plan (RPP) regime. AN IPP is essentially a defined benefit pension plan (DB) setup by an employer with a limited number of designated beneficiaries (e.g. directors and officers) or possibly, a single beneficiary (owner manager). It requires registration with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) with ongoing maintenance and compliance in accordance with the Act. Failure to comply with rules set forth in the ITA could result in revocation or deregistration, which consequently could lead to unfavorable tax consequences. The plan must be sponsored and funded by a corporation with funding possibly also coming from employees. In general, DB plans offer employees specific future pension benefits upon retirement, typically calculated on the basis of a percentage of their employment income over their service period. IPP subscribers have additional confidence in knowing that their post employment benefits will be fixed in value each year which eliminates the uncertainty and concerns raised with retirement investments premised on the performance of capital markets. Pension plans are in the purview of either provincial or federal legislation; however, the scope of this discussion is confined to the Act. Perhaps the most attractive feature of an IPP is that for the right individual(s), it is a more effective tax planning vehicle by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nowadays in the age of technology, we have thousands of people around that rub off on us one way or the other. We have all of these influences around us, most of whom are either non beneficial or unattainable. These, along with the ever present peer pressure, make us become someone that s far away from who we really are, something that we should attempt to move on from. It seems like today the overwhelming question for teenagers is should they put on a fake persona for the sake of being accepted or live every day unfiltered at the risk of being scrutinized? When we step outside the friendly confines of our home, we prepare a face to show to the rest of the world, one that shows we are living a great life and having everything going right for us. We are expected to always put on a persona and show that our lives our great. On social media, we all post pictures of us in our best moments; We show when we re on vacation, when we re at a bonfire with friends, or when we re sitting in the suite level at a sporting event. Shinji The reserved, self loathing protagonist, Shinji Ikari, epitomizes the introvert personality by concealing his true identity a la the hedgehog s dilemma (first introduced by philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer). Just a brief reminder for anyone who hasn t watched the show for quite some time, as this concept is fundamental in understanding our main character, the premise of this theory goes as follows: forging intimate relationships, despite our best intentions, causes shared emotional pain; therefore, provoking guarded behavior and overall weaker relationships due to the lack of intimacy. This explains Shinji s maladroit encounters with female characters in the show, and his reluctancy to solidify lasting relationships. He has become content to live in the imaginary shell that is his happy place, believing that expressing his true self will cause unintended harm to others and himself. Hideaki Anno, to his credit, overlaid his permeating depression into a fourteen year old character, that, for the most part, comes through as feeling authentic. Since video games are a relatively new medium of artistic expression and entertainment, not much is known about the effects of continual exposure to them, especially at a young age. The effects of violent media on the psyche of kids and adolescents has been a pressing concern for many years now, as stated in a study conducted by Tortolero et al. The researchers have focused on the branch of psychology focused on mental health, clinical psychology (King, 2014, p.16), and the psychological problems associated with prolonged exposure to violent video games, specifically in preadolescents. The study was meant to observe the levels of depressive symptoms in children who played violent video games using the Major Depressive DisorderScale of the DISC Predictive Scales to identify these symptoms which included lack of pleasure, lack of interest in activities, concentration difficulties, low energy, low self worth, and suicidal ideation (Tortelo et al., 2014, p.610 611). This indicates, after subtracting tax, how much profit the firm has generated. For example, if IKEA accumulates, over a single period, total sales revenue of $100M, but recapitalizes part of that income (about $50M), and needs to pay tax of 40% of the earnings, it will end up with a free cash flow of $30M. NPM is simply $30M / $100M x 100%, which equals 30%. For example, if there is a start up pizza restaurant, it will require a capital... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monopoly A monopoly of a market will exist when three attributes are identified: there is only one producer, there are barriers to enter such a market, and there are no close substitutes for the product. It is a family business and has been for years, and it does not produce its coffee beans unless these are cooked and in a state that they can t be replanted to yield any crop, thus maintaining its exclusivity for the product. Business Profit versus Economic Profits Business profit or accounting profit is simply the net income of a company (total revenue minus total expenses), however an economic profit is a tougher profit to achieve. This is because it takes into account the missing investment opportunities. For example, if investment option A generates a 50% return while investment option B only generates 10% and option A was chosen exclusively: the business profit would simply be that of option A (50%) while the economic profit would be 50% 10% = 40%. The exhibits were all made to represent the 50 states and the different cultures for all the world to see. This was a key time in American history with a vast number of immigrants coming over to America. So, these were a focal point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the ashcan school was more of a painting revolution. It focused a lot on New York citys everyday life and the struggle especially in the poorer neighborhoods. The ashcan school took the innovations in brushes and paints to show realism. Now the last subject I d like to talk about is how art reflects the society we live in. I believe that all forms of art are a reflection of what s going on in society at that time like the ashcan school like I mentioned before focused on the economic hardships in New York city. The paintings from John Sloan come to mind as they were of everyday people in bars and restaurants which like I said before were the place to be and showed how society was in that era from the clothes to the food and drink I think John Sloan captured that image perfectly. George Bellowswas also great at capturing the current events I saw one painting called Tennis in Newport. The painting showed just how the rich lived back in the Gilded age despite the economic struggles in many big cities at the time. So, as you can tell this time in American history was very crucial to the foundation of a growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Do Animals Use Some Properties of Human Language Are there special properties of human language or can they be found in the communication systems of other creatures? Philip Tweedle This essay will discuss whether six of Hockett s design features, which are properties of language, are exclusively human or can they be found in other creatures communications. For each of the features, the communication of wild apes, trained apes and humans will be compared. This will not be based solely on vocal communication, but explore the research into signing and pointing apes (apes using symbols on a keyboard, Aitchison, 2008). The first reason to discuss this, is because human language is not restricted to vocal communication: we can use sign language and the written word. The second ... For the purposes of the experiment with Lana, all the sequences she wrote were stored for the ease of collating and analysing data at the end of the experiment. The fifth feature to compare is reciprocity. This is where any sender of a language signal could also be the receiver, and features in both human and apes. Communication is only truly reciprocal when the receiver knows the language used by the sender: if an Englishman shouted to Frenchman the receiver would not be able to understand the message and therefore would not be able to respond to the original call. In the case of the trained chimps, Lana who used pictograms on a screen, would not be able to communicate with Washoe, who was trained with signs. The sixth design feature, and maybe the most important, is Prevarication: the ability to lie and deceive. This shows a deliberate intent and intelligence, and is found in both humans and apes in the wild, but not in the signing and pointing chimps. The ability to deceive in wild apes is found within the social context in which they live for example: juvenile baboons have been reported effectively to use a scream of fear to ... • 50. Racial Diversity In Social Media In todays world of near total dependence on the internet, it becomes increasingly noticed that our popular culture is defined by the racially diverse nature of most social media platforms. Social media is well known as a catalyst for any activism or social reformation movements that occur nearly every day around the world. Platforms such as Facebook or Twitter often start debates over things that happen online, on television, or in the real world. Those who use interactive multimedia are very racially diverse and bring unique ideas and arguments to the international community of the internet. However, it is apparent that both Twitter and Facebook have varied approaches when inviting those of racial diversity onto their platforms and making them feel welcomed there. It has become an accepted business practice to meet a certain quota of hiring from diverse racial groups. This trend of identifying racial diversity began with the idea of setting targets has its roots in affirmative action policies in the US and South Africa (Jacobs, 1). Previous social movements resulted in the push to identify numbers regarding grouping those of different ethnic groups. As of the year 2016, the United States government issued a three hundred dollar diversity fund (Jacobs, 2) to identify the rate of hiring diverse groupings. Companies began to feel pressure from social activism resulting in this new quota that they must meet to stay respected within the community of those who fight for diversity on the internet. While the expansion of hiring those of diverse brackets can create a positive professional and educational atmosphere, it can also create a feeling of tension between those separate groups. It is feared that meeting the diversity percentage issued by the United States government may overshadow those who may work hard for a job or college acceptance. However, by employing a diverse workforce, a company has the ability to have different perspective on racially sensitive topics. If someone of similar racial backgrounds marketed a product used predominantly by one race , then it would result in the possibility of increased sales. Both Facebook and Twitter have been feuding over power and recognition since the 2000 s as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analysis Of I Am Waiting American politics has proved to be flawed in structure over, and over again. Although our founding fathers had the best intentions when they implemented democracy, they like most modern day politicians, failed to actually make things better. Yes we gained our Independence, but with the ability to make our own choices we tend to make childish and impulsive decisions. The election of Donald Trumpstands to be the most recent of those mistakes, and the politicians who work for him are either blinded or full of regret. Poets Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Robert Lowell paint vivid pictures of these very mistakes that seem to recur with the thought of democracy. More often than not we elect our President based on the changes he promises to deliver once in office. Lawrence Ferlinghetti s poem titled I Am Waiting is a perfect example of those broken promises. The poem discusses how he s waiting for the American dream to manifest itself. The dream of freedom and equality in a place where our elected officials actually work for us, rather than against us. You know he s talking about these things in the allusions he makes to the Mayflower and the Western frontier. He says, And I am waiting / for a rebirth of wonder / and I am waiting for someone / to really discover America/ and wail/ The poem ends with Ferlinghetti waiting forever and constantly seeking change similar to American citizens wishing and waiting for the same. The citizens of this beauty we call the United States have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
