Antigone And A Raisin In The Sun
Sophocles Antigone and Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun are both classic works of literature
and drama. Set in Ancient Greece and Chicago s South Side during the 1950s, respectively, they both
chronicle a family that faces conflict that threatens to tear their interpersonal bonds apart. The two
plays explore the concept of money and the influence it holds over people. In A Raisin in the Sun,
Mama receives a ten thousand dollar insurance check at the beginning of the story, and the characters
spend the duration of the play figuring out who the money should go to and how it should be spent. In
Antigone, while money is not a central topic, it serves as a potential motive for the characters.
Sophocles and Hansberry both use the motif of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the Younger family, money is a means to an end, and is viewed as a useful tool. The main conflict
of the story is what to achieve with the tool they are given. Although money is capable of dissolving
the bonds of trust between family and friends, the Youngers familial bonds are able to resolve this
conflict in the end. Money is only a corrupting force in Antigone, though; Creon is untrusting of those
who he thinks may be motivated by it. This belief influences his decisions which subsequently drive
the plot. His stubbornness, pride, and suspiciousness of others cause him to tragically lose his wife,
son, and future daughter in law. By each play s conclusion, the characters have discovered how money

400 Years Of Opera
400 Years of Opera: Journal When I began reading 400 Years of Opera, I wasn t sure what to expect.
Of course, I assumed it would cover what we went over in the first day of class with a little added
extra, but I am surprised with how much I learned within fourteen pages. I did not know opera had so
many inspirations and models it fitted before evolving into what it is today! While studying the novel,
I was shocked (and a little horrified) when going over mysteries. Although accuracy is important, I
would not expect theater to go so far as to behead a person live in front of an audience. For something
so morbid, even if it did advance stagecraft, I am glad it was later shut down by the church. Though I
have to wonder: did the audience

Age Bias On The Older Generation
In today s society, the work industry is comprised of numerous generations from baby boomers to
millennia s. Due to reasons ranging from increased cost of living to political policies, Americans are
being forced to work longer in order to obtain the social security benefits they ve contributed to during
their careers. Each generation has certain generational influences such as war times and civil rights for
the baby boomers and social media and the technology boom for the millennia s. One constant that has
not changed, however, is that the average American has to work for a living, and with the evolution of
the US economy, they are having to work longer and are retiring later.

This act prohibits an employer from declining to hire, fired, and otherwise discriminate against an
employee 40 years of age or older. In a Supreme Court Case Oscar Mayer Co. v. Evans, Oscar Mayer
was accused of age discrimination against an employee (Oscar Mayer Co. v. Evans, 2007). Evans
claimed he was forced to retire after 23 years of services because of his age, which is a clear violation
of the ADEA.
This law is suggested to be the product of the Title VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964 (Glenn Little,
2014). While title VII was expected to avert all forms of discrimination it didn t not include age as one
of the five protected classes. However, the main mission was to provide equal opportunities and being
the journey away from discrimination against employees. So Congress looked upon the Secretary of
Labor to report on age discrimination. They find out that the data showed widespread amount of
discrimination against older workers. Date showed that workers 65 and over were barred from almost
all potential jobs openings.
This law affects upper aged individuals that are in need of a necessary career change, or who has
constantly been within an organization for numerous amounts of years. They just want to be judge on
their qualifications and their ability to do the job and not there age. The ADEA simply tells employers
to disregard age, when it comes to employment decision. A first step to ensure

Capital Markets And Strategic Issues Essay
Capital Markets and Strategic Issues in Fund Raising AAnswer Role of VCs in the company VC is a
type of private equity also a financing provided by firms to nascent stage, emerging firms that are
promising, show high growth potential (in terms of number of employees, annual revenue, or both).
VC firms invest in these mentioned companies in exchange of ownership stake. VCs take on the risk
of financing risky start ups thinking that some of the firms will be successful who they pursue. Start
ups are usually based on an innovative technology/business model and they are usually from the high
technology industries, such as information technology (IT), social media or biotechnology. In
exchange for high risk that venture capitalists assume by investing in smaller/startup companies, VCs
usually get significant control over company s management decisions, with companies ownership and
value. Obtaining VC is different from raising a loan. Lenders have a legal right to interest payment of
the principal irrespective of the business success/failure. VC is invested for an equity stake in the
business. The return of the VC as a shareholder depends on business growth /profit. Return is earned
when the venture capitalist exits . VCs are selective in deciding where to invest in; as a result, firms
are looking for the extremely rare yet sought after qualities such as innovative technology, potential
for rapid growth, a well developed business model and an impressive management team. Of

Wuthering Heights Meaning Of Love Essay
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë is considered a great Victorian love story between various
characters, but most famously, between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. As the novel is a tale of
romance, the word love and other related words is used a great deal throughout. It is used to describe
the emotions and sentiments of the various characters in relation to other characters. On the surface,
love is perceived as something beautiful and amazing but this does not cover the complex layers that it
contains. What makes it so elaborate are the develop characters that become involved with the word.
Brontë creates developed characters with personalities and uses the word love through their lens to
demonstrate how they perceive and view love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet there is a contradiction between the meaning of love that Catherine and Heathcliff communicate to
one another in comparison to their actions. In society, when a person loves another person, it is a
social norm that they get married to prove that they are committed to one another. However, Catherine
refuses to marry Heathcliff despite the emotional and spiritual bond they share because marrying him
would be beneath her. The sense of love between the two is so deep that for them not to be wed creates
a confusion surrounding their meaning of love. Although the keyword love is used multiple times
throughout the novel, one of the first moments it is used in a romantic notion is when Nelly asks
Catherine if she loves Edgar. I question why the word love is not firstly used in the context of
Catherine and Heathcliff; as they possess a very passionate love. The quote states: First and foremost,
do you love Mr. Edgar? Who can help it? Of course I do, she answered (69). However, there is a
complication between the type of love that Nelly and Catherine imply. Nelly hopes that Catherine
genuinely loves Edgar because she knows that Catherine is in love with Heathcliff. The love that
Catherine knowingly possesses in relation to Edgar is selfish and shallow, yet marries him anyway.
She marries Edgar because he is socially respectable; he is handsome, young, rich and because he
loves her. Edgar seems to have priority over Catherine s love because of his social

My Career As A Teacher
This paper gives a background on how I developed as a professional and who was a primary mentor in
my life. It delves briefly into my past and explains how I came to be in the military, while also
explaining how a certain person was able to contribute to my professional growth. This paper
examines my life as I progress from high school student to a NCO (Non Commissioned Officer) and a
few of the challenges I had to endure.
Developing a Professional
What does being a mentor mean? In my opinion, it means teaching, guiding, and letting a person make
small mistakes so they have less of a chance of making a big one. I have been fortunate in my short
military career to have many mentors, both great and some not so great. One who has ... Show more

My husband and I split up a few months after graduation and unless I was willing to give up custody
of my daughter, I would not be able to join the military. So I made other plans and started working
towards a different goal. As fate would have it however, my husband and I reconciled, worked things
out and got back together. Two weeks later I was called by my recruiter and was told that a spot had
just opened up and I could leave in just a few short days. I decided to go for it and the rest is history.
For my first duty station, I was assigned to Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. I arrived there in May 2010
with my husband, daughter, and pregnant with my second child. Shortly thereafter I became a single
parent and was learning to develop both as a parent and as an airman. I was fortunate to be working
with many wonderful people who might not have understood my situation but were very supportive.
Marna was one such person. She was a retired Chief Master Sergeant who had worked in pharmacy all
her career and had a wealth of experience under her belt. She became my first mentor and helped
teach me more about pharmacy in the military world and the extra duties that came along with it.
Whenever I had questions, she would be there to answer them and if she didn t have the answer, she
could help me find the person who did.

A Depth Analysis Of Henri Fayol s Perspective On...
Management is one of the most significant factors of production necessary for the realization of a
company s objectives. The number of managers varies from one corporation to another and is highly
dependent on the size of the corporation. The leadership of a company s management is instrumental
as it sets and guides the general direction that the company ought to go. It provides efficient methods
in which the company s resources can be utilized in the production of goods and services as well as
dealing with any deviations, expected or otherwise, in order to increase the productivity and
competitiveness of an organization. This paper will give an in depth analysis of Henri Fayol s
perspective on management in addition to exploring other perspectives employed by other authors.
Considered as one of the pioneers of modern management, Fayol formulated a theory, which considers
management as one of the key skills of an employee, which is vital across all fields. He was the first to
recognize that management is a separate activity, which can be studied on its own. An employee with
more managerial skills is more valuable than one with only the technical skills (Byrnes 2014, p.81).
According to Fayol, the management has five core functions. These are planning, organizing,
commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Therefore, managerial activities are concerned with
formulation of operational plans for the business. His perspective is administrative in nature aimed at
making

The Calling Of St. Matthew By Caravaggio
The Calling of St. Matthew, is a painting created in 1600, by Caravaggio. It was created using oil
paints measuring 127 inches by 130 inches. The painting can be found today in the Contarelli Chapel
in the french church San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. It is located in the chapel with two other
paintings by Caravaggio, all about St. Matthew. The painting is telling a story from the Gospel of
Matthew. It shows the moment that Jesus tells Matthew to follow him and become one of his apostles.
The main characters in this painting are Matthew, Jesus, and Peter. There are five young men seated
counting money. They are all armed and dressed in fancy clothes. The room they are in almost looks
like an old tavern. Images do not usually show Jesus in this particular kind of setting. ... Show more

It represents the sacrifice Jesus is going to make for the people. Caravaggio s hand placement for
Jesus is very similar to Michelangelo s hand in his The Creation of Adam painting. This could have
been done intentional. Michelangelo painted God as he awakens Adam and now Caravaggio has
painted Jesus reaching out to Matthew as he is recreating his life. It is hard to tell exactly who Jesus is
pointing at since there are five men seated in front of him. However, the intensity of the light,
probably from a door that was opened, takes the viewers eyes right to the bearded mans hand which he
is pointing at himself in shock. Matthew is surprised that Jesus would pick someone like him.
Caravaggio is showing his audience that even if you believe you are not holy enough, everyone is able
to follow Christ. He gives his audience the ability to relate to St. Matthew. This tells us that he is
Matthew. At this moment, Matthew has to decide if he wants to stay and continue to be a tax collector,
or follow Jesus. The coin on top of his hat and his hand reaching out to a coin, symbolizes that money
is a huge part of him, if he went with Jesus he would be giving

Proper Vaccination
Proper vaccination is important for the safety of people. If people aren t vaccinated, they can
potentially gain a virus and get hurt. They may also spread the virus to other people if they aren t
vaccinated. Taking a vaccination ensures a person will not get infected with the virus and die. These
are the reasons why everyone should get vaccinated. If people aren t properly vaccinated, it puts them
in danger. Viruses can spread easily and become massively harmful to a person, maybe causing them
to die. If they are infected, the strength of the virus can overpower the person s ability to provide
protection against it. A lack of vaccination can lead to serious health problems. Taking a vaccination
will also protect people around that person.

2.1 Power Dressing Concept and Evolution
As most authors believe that there is no farcicality in the idea that the major aspect of Power Dressing
is procuring power and achieving authority through self respect. Why would power be at the core of
power dressing, if it didn t accrue power? (McCauley, 2015, para.1).
Born in the second half of the 1970s and developed in the 1980s, the phenomenon of Power Dressing
is a fashion style that enables women to establish their authority and ability in a professional and
political environment traditionally dominated by men. The term Power Dressing is relatable to a
fashion style typical of the business and political environment of the 1970s and 1980s. Today the

In this story we encounter storytelling as a means of saving your identity, your relationship with your

Indian author Salman Rushdie (b. 1947) had to go underground after the publication of his novel The

The leader s name is Khattam Shud. Going with the Genie to Gup City, Haroun finds, to his surprise,

being accused of being a spy for the Chupwalas. Rashid is able to explain the situation because he

Khattam Shud: Not only is he opposed to stories and fantasies, he also wants to do away with speech

the twilight and on to the dark land of Chup, where shadows have acquired a life of their own, and
through many dangers and adventures they reach the heart of the Chup empire, a Factory Ship that

with a plug and spread silence and darkness. Finally they see Khattam Shud himself, and Haroun is

Evaluative Analysis: The Shawshank Redemption When it comes to movies, I am not exactly what
you could consider well versed. Had it not been for several close friends of mine, I would have never
even seen blockbuster hits such as Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, or Back to the Future. The
reason for this is not because I dislike watching movies, but rather due to the restrictive nature of my
parents. Thus, I have not had the privilege to enjoy The Shawshank Redemption, Frank Darabont s
1994 adaptation of the Stephen King novel, until recently. Due to countless positive reviews and the
recommendations of friends, I anticipated that it would be a must see for those mature enough to
appreciate its commentary on the human condition. After viewing the flick, I can certainly verify The
Shawshank Redemption deserves its must see status, as it contains such relatable themes and excellent
cinematic techniques. Various themes are presented in the film; however, the most prevalent of these
themes are the severity of isolation and the redeeming qualities of hope. The Shawshank Redemption
follows the story of Andy Dufresne, a man wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover,
and his time spent at the Shawshank prison, as well as Andy s eventual escape. Early on, it becomes
extremely evident that those imprisoned at Shawshank must deal with unbearable isolation on multiple
levels. Shawshank

Toddlers Case Study
Slide 2 Toddlers rights
In society people have to right to have their rights protected and their needs meet, this should be the
same for toddlers within early childhood education and care. Within the early childhood setting
toddlers have the right to be cared for, loved and nurtured. Te One (2011) states that it is important to
listen to toddlers voices, weather its through verbal or non verbal communication and she emphasises
on the importance of early childhood educators ensuring that they are protecting the rights of the
toddlers in their care. This means educators need to advocate and ensure that the principle within the
Convention on Rights of the Child are understood and are implemented within early childhood
education and care.
Slide 3 The Convention on the Rights of the Child
Convention on the Rights of the child (CRC) was first created by the United Nations alongside a

New Zealand Government officially signed it in 1993. This was a legal agreement among nations that
commits each cooperating country to work toward guaranteeing environments that foster children s
development, protect them from harm, and enhance their community participation and self

Nineteen Years A Slave By Solomon Northup
Twelve Years a Slave, a memoir penned by Solomon Northup, is a poignant and extremely touching
piece of literature, on the plights of an American slave. It is the autographical journey of the writer
himself, and the twelve years he spent in bondage. Born as a free African American in New York,
Solomon was tricked into slavery, and beaten black and blue to when he tried to regain freedom. He
worked as a cotton picker, a carpenter, a mill worker, and faced severe cruelty. His final reunion with
his family after twelve years of sheer torture and loneliness makes for an emotional read, and an eye

Movies are a larger medium than books, and thus more people are able to watch the movie. From the
large scale on which they are made, the promotion and branding, the huge releases worldwide, and the
way in which the action comes alive in front of our eyes; films reach a much larger audience than the
readers of any book. One of the major reasons for the screen adaptations of books is just the same.
Most people are not avid readers, and may not go through each and every book in the market.
However, there are gems of books that convey a range of emotions, and also address major issues. The
non readers miss out on these priceless treasures. It is then, the movies, come into picture. Movies,

The Themes Of African American Literature
Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across many different
forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are
used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their
experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations,
both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson, and African
American artist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting Prayer in the
Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American literature that broadens
the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality.
In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three
elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting that
one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of
color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson).
Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying. These elongated
forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The
tone of Prayer in the Field created by the colors is what gives these kneeling figures meaning. The

Taking a Look at Niemann-Pick Disease
Niemann Pick disease an inherited condition involving lipid metabolism, which is the breakdown,
transport, and use of fats and cholesterol in the body is the condition in which abnormal lipid
metabolism causes harmful amounts of lipid to accumulate in parts of the body. There are 3 forms of
this disease: Type A, B, and C. The general focus of this paper will be Type C. Niemann Pick s disease
Type C (NPC) is disease in which unesterified cholesterol and other lipids accumulate in late
endosomes/lysosomes (LE/L) of all cells and tissues. Resulting in excessive amounts of cholesterol
accumulation within the liver and spleen and excessive amounts of other lipids accumulating in the
brain. The cause of NPC is quite distinct from A B whose patients have defects in their lysosomal acid
sphingomyelinase gene (3). On the contrary, NPC is a recessive, autosomal disorder that affects
around 1 in 150,000 births and causes premature death due to relentless neurodegeneration as well as
lung and liver dysfunction (4,5). NPC can further be divided into two subgroups known as C1 and C2,
which are each, caused by a different gene mutation. One of the many interesting features of this
disease is that symptoms may appear as early as childhood or as late as adulthood. The symptoms that
follow this disease are the inability to move ones eyes up and down, enlarged liver, enlarged spleen, or
jaundice in young children. But it is common for only one or two symptoms to appear in the early

Symbolism In Don T You Cry For Me By Songwriter Cobi
Songs, used to create messages, give singers the ability to speak about concerns that are relevant in the
current everyday life. A powerful ways songwriters achieve this is by applying the use of imagery.
Lyricists use this help readers of literary works to understand specific ideas that the writer is trying to
convey. By using symbolism in songs, singers can discuss issues in ways that connect with the listener
on a deeper level. Using this method in songwriting is crucial when discussing important subjects;
influencing the public in a way that is not direct and more effective. In Don t You Cry For Me,
songwriter Cobi uses repeated images of trees and individuals hanging as metaphors for his feelings
towards facing injustice. It is through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cobi has created an overall central theme of injustice throughout the song seeing injustice, the unease
of acting against it, and finally doing something about it. The way Cobi has written the song puts great
emphasis on how important it is to him. He wants listeners to take the matter of suicide seriously so he
includes darker visions of people being hanged. Being a serious topic he avoids colloquialism and
mainly uses metaphors to express the meaning. Witnessing how relevant injustice is, Cobi comments
on how others react to it observing, I ve seen an ocean run away. He notices how many people (ocean
being a Synecdoche for people) have run away and do not help, which emphasizes the repeated lyric,
please help me chop this tree down, indicating that the effort to help must be shared. Through this
symbolism, Cobi is speaking to the listener and pleads for them to assist as well. This tree represents
the injustice in the world that he wants to fight. By taking action against it, people can interpret the
gravel being paved as a reference to a new beginning of hope. He uses mental images to reach people
on a deeper level, which connects to people s imagination and inspires them.
The imagery in song lyrics is important when introducing a message; if one s goal is to offer reflection
to the listener. In Don t You Cry For Me , Cobi achieves this through his mass use of metaphors, the
extensive images of the tree and hanging are elements that are key in conveying his messages of fear,
redemption, and injustice. This song directs listeners to stand up and not be afraid to fight for what
they believe, in a way that can connect to them emotionally. The imagery in songs offers reflection
into topics that are personal for each

The Role Of Powers Of Modern Government
INTRODUCTION
A trend very much in vogue to day in all democratic countries is that only a relatively small part of the
total legislative output emanates directly from the legislature. The bulk of the legislation is
promulgated by the executive and is known as Delegated Legislation.
So a simple definition of Delegated Legislation is that its a type of law which can be made quickly and
is not made by Parliament or a law made by a person or a body to whom the Parliament has delegated
law making power.
Such legislation is made by a body by virtue of the powers conferred on it by a statute. Usually what
happens is that the legislature enacts a statute covering only the general principles and policies relating
to the subject matter in question, and confers rule making powers on government, or some other
administrative agency, to fill in the details. This technique of delegated legislation has assumed central
importance in modern Administrative Process. Delegated Legislation is being increasingly used as a
major component of the method of modern government.
Parliament makes only skeleton, simple framework simple laws with no details which is put on by
someone else other than the Parliament and the reason behind that is time because Parliament s time is
very limited. So the Parliament delegates the authority of making law to others.
Delegated Legislation is so multitudinous that the statute book will not only be incomplete but even
misleading unless it be read along with the

Each city state had its own ruler, who was called a lugal, en, or ensi. They were like a king or
governor. One of the most famous kings was named Gilgamesh. One of the oldest things ever written
was the Epic of Gilgamesh, which was, of course, about King Gilgamesh. The king was an important
part of the Sumerian government.
Besides the king, there were also government officials. They organized projects and helped keep the
city running. They had lots of laws that everyone had to follow or they would be severely punished.
Some people say that government was invented by the Sumerians. The government officials had an
important job.
The temples, or ziggurats, weren t just a place to worship the gods. They were also a place for food
and art storage, as well as a home for many people. The ziggurats were in the middle of the city states.
Each one had a certain god to worship. The temples were used for a lot of jobs.

Peace And Violence By Galtung
As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault,
bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However,
what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because
as we have learned in class so far, Violence is Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an
easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical
but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression
either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will
discuss how violence can be viewed as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my understanding,
if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable.
However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it
would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing,
bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its
intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good
representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In
Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and
viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the
mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the
child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our
western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is
conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic
families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to
discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in
Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In
the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies
on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on

To what extent is it true to claim that people have an individual sense of moral responsibility for

When looking at environmental ethics, we are focusing on our attitudes towards the impact on the
biological and geological aspects of our planet and whether human actions maintains or disturbs the
balance between the planet s different life forms and geological systems. This essay will include

Aldo Leopold s book Sound County Almanac inspired a new approach to the environment and an
interest in ecology as a science, the book calls for a new approach to the environment. In it he writes a
thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the bionic community, it is
wrong when it tends otherwise this means that when the earth becomes a thing which is manipulated
to the advantage of humans then it is wrong. Aarne Naess wrote the book The Shallow and the Deep,
Long Range Ecology Movement where he states that there are two ecology movements, the first being
concerned with pollution, the depletion of natural resources, and usefulness of Earth for Humans and
the second concerned with the richness, diversity and intrinsic value of all the natural world this being
deep ecology. This movement maintains that animals and aspects of the natural world have rights.
Everything is seen as an integral part of a complex system which needs to be respected. We have a
personal, moral responsibility to preserve it. Naess rejected the idea that humans are more important
because they have a soul, the use of reason or a consciousness, he said that humans are simply a part
of nature and all species have a right to exist for their own sake. He opposes the view of stewardship
and sees it as arrogant and dependent on the idea of superiority, which underlies the thought that
humans exist to watch

Johnny Character Analysis
People Can Change
In the beginning of the book Johnny behavior was very problematic, who at the time was fourteen.
Johnny was not mature, nor was he anywhere close to mature. He lives in the house of the Laphams.
Johnny who is an apprentice, is in charge of Dove and Dusty. Dove and Johnny tend to bicker a lot
because they do not get along. Johnny never treats Dove fairly, and Johnny tends to pick on him as
well. Dove who s lonely, is often misunderstood by many of the characters in the book. Dove doesn t
like Johnny because he is mean to him and is very demanding. Johnny expects everything to be done
in a blink of an eye, and if it s not, he becomes extremely agitated. Mr. Lapham, who found out of

When Johnny burned his hand severely, he was limited on the things he could do around the house at
the Laphams. Cilla and Isannah would tease Johnny from time to time and Johnny would take it, but
he wouldn t really show that he didn t like being teased. He felt hopeless because he was useless to the
Lapham household. Johnny was kicked out of the Laphams because of his hand, and felt very
dismayed and was also filled with anger. Johnny wanted revenge, but didn t follow through. This is
the turning point of Johnny s personality. When Johnny went to Mr. Lytes house to try to adopt him,
Mr. Lyte laughed and sent him away which made Johnny mad. Johnny showed Mr. Lyte his cup.
Johnny thought that the Cup had led him to Mr. Lytes, which would be where he truly belongs. When
Johnny borrowed a coat from Rab, Mr. Lyte accused him of stealing the coat and pressed charges on
Johnny. This event made Johnny enraged because after multiple times saying he did not steal it, Mr.
Lyte did not believe him. Cilla testified for Johnny which made him feel loved, which he had not felt
in a long time. This made Johnny start to love and care for others, since others had done the same for
him. One thing that Johnny really got caught by surprise was when Cilla kissed his hand. He said
nothing. He was suddenly afraid he might cry. Johnny felt like he wanted to cry because he realized
that he has not been nice to anyone for a long time and that people are still nice to him. He began to

Even though he is not her father, her mind cannot stop flashing back to how her father would molest
her sexually. It revolves around her purity again in the poem Blue Blackout when the line ...he was my
first. We both knew it. / We believed it. My whole life / depended on it... comes up. She clings to the
idea that she is a virgin for her lover s sake. She does not want him to be tainted like she has been. In
my opinion, the most shocking fact I came into grips with was that not only Anderson and her father
knew of the incest, but so did the mother and the elder brother. It made me wonder what type of
brainwash or control did he have over them to keep them all quiet and ignorant. Then in the poem The
Good Christian. The father used religion and twisted it up; tricking his daughter into thinking what he
was doing was just. And so in church you were afraid. You knew. / That closing your eyes made no
prayer come true. / That all sins of sinner were forgiven. Yet in this poem, she is looking back on her
father s words and recalling when she was in church at how confused she was. No matter how her
father was, she was brainwashed into believing he d be forgiven. Towards the end of the book, as a
reader, you may feel emotionless or full of swelled up emotions, making what to burst into tears. You
are either filled with sadness or completely ripped away of how you should feel. Just like Anderson as
a child, you feel as if you yourself

Miranda warnings can render a subsequent confession admissible if sufficient time has passed to purge
the taint of the illegal seizure. (Brown v. Illinois (1975) 422 U.S. 604 (even if subsequent statements

Foodborne Illness Diseases
Foodborne illness diseases that spread through food or beverages are a common, distressing and
sometimes a life threatening problem for millions of people in the United States and around the world.
One of the largest foodborne illness outbreaks in United States history happened in 1977. This
foodborne illness was called botulism which is a serious and rare disease caused by food. The cause of
this outbreak was hot sauce that had been made from improperly canned jalapeno peppers. Foodborne
illnesses such as this one can cause much harm to anyone from all over the world and could become a
big problem. If this happened then it would cause a big problem to our society as well. Foodborne
illnesses are harmful to society.
Salmonella is a foodborne illness that is harmful to society. Marler Clark claims that salmonella is a
foodborne illness that usually occurs when a person eats food contaminated with feces of animals or
humans carrying the bacteria( parag.1 4). This evidence means that any food that has been
contaminated such as eggs, meat and poultry, and sometimes fruits or vegetables could harm anyone
that consumes it. Food Safety News claims that while salmonella is most often associated with poultry
products, outbreaks are linked to a wide variety of sources including contaminated ground beef, fruits
and vegetables, dog food, turtles and hedgehogs(parag.3). This evidence means that any type of food
as well as any types of animals can be contaminated by this foodborne

The inventory turnover of Diamond Drillers is higher than the industry. It is good to have a higher

Margaret Sanger Vs Betty Friedan
Throughout history, leaders of political and social movements have designed slogans and catchphrases
to mobilize ordinary citizens into political and social activists. Historically, activists such as Nelson
Mandela, Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and countless others have, in
their speeches and writings, created a perfect pairing of words that persists in the mind of the listener.
Two such activists of the Twentieth Century were Margaret Sanger and Betty Friedan. Friedan and
Sanger greatly influenced the women s rights movement; despite both being feminists, however, their
personal beliefs in terms of other civil rights movements often fell at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Both Friedan and Sanger popularized phrases which empowered their respective followers and similar
activists to push back against a system designed to repress them; the phrases that the two activists
used, however, reflected their different brands of activism and revealed their differences of opinion on
who mattered both for and in the Women s Rights Movement. : Sanger with the phrase birth control
and Friedan with the term feminine mystique.
Betty Friedan, who lived from 1921 2006, constructed her activism through her writing. She wrote for
trade unions and magazines, and later, at the age of 42, published her best known work The Feminine
Mystique. This book stirred up a following among urban, white, middle class American women who

Throughout the ten seasons of the television show Friends, one of the main characters, Ross Geller, is
heard correcting his friends over their use of the word who. Ross corrects them on different occasions,
saying it is whom, not who, and he is always met with an annoyed response. When Ross corrects his

bother to discern whether they should be using who or whom when they are speaking, they simply use
who, and when Ross tells Phoebe that she is incorrect, he gets a negative response. While Ross is

At the beginning of the novel, Ralph and Piggy seem to be the only people on the island. Ralph does
not show much interest in Piggy, but Piggy sees it as imperative that they get to know each other and
find out if anyone else is on the island. Right away, Piggy s brains and common sense are exhibited.

  • 2. Antigone And A Raisin In The Sun Sophocles Antigone and Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun are both classic works of literature and drama. Set in Ancient Greece and Chicago s South Side during the 1950s, respectively, they both chronicle a family that faces conflict that threatens to tear their interpersonal bonds apart. The two plays explore the concept of money and the influence it holds over people. In A Raisin in the Sun, Mama receives a ten thousand dollar insurance check at the beginning of the story, and the characters spend the duration of the play figuring out who the money should go to and how it should be spent. In Antigone, while money is not a central topic, it serves as a potential motive for the characters. Sophocles and Hansberry both use the motif of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the Younger family, money is a means to an end, and is viewed as a useful tool. The main conflict of the story is what to achieve with the tool they are given. Although money is capable of dissolving the bonds of trust between family and friends, the Youngers familial bonds are able to resolve this conflict in the end. Money is only a corrupting force in Antigone, though; Creon is untrusting of those who he thinks may be motivated by it. This belief influences his decisions which subsequently drive the plot. His stubbornness, pride, and suspiciousness of others cause him to tragically lose his wife, son, and future daughter in law. • 3. 400 Years Of Opera 400 Years of Opera: Journal When I began reading 400 Years of Opera, I wasn t sure what to expect. Of course, I assumed it would cover what we went over in the first day of class with a little added extra, but I am surprised with how much I learned within fourteen pages. I did not know opera had so many inspirations and models it fitted before evolving into what it is today! While studying the novel, I was shocked (and a little horrified) when going over mysteries. Although accuracy is important, I would not expect theater to go so far as to behead a person live in front of an audience. For something so morbid, even if it did advance stagecraft, I am glad it was later shut down by the church. Though I have to wonder: did the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Age Bias On The Older Generation In today s society, the work industry is comprised of numerous generations from baby boomers to millennia s. Due to reasons ranging from increased cost of living to political policies, Americans are being forced to work longer in order to obtain the social security benefits they ve contributed to during their careers. Each generation has certain generational influences such as war times and civil rights for the baby boomers and social media and the technology boom for the millennia s. One constant that has not changed, however, is that the average American has to work for a living, and with the evolution of the US economy, they are having to work longer and are retiring later. As time has progressed and technology has taken over in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This act prohibits an employer from declining to hire, fired, and otherwise discriminate against an employee 40 years of age or older. In a Supreme Court Case Oscar Mayer Co. v. Evans, Oscar Mayer was accused of age discrimination against an employee (Oscar Mayer Co. v. Evans, 2007). Evans claimed he was forced to retire after 23 years of services because of his age, which is a clear violation of the ADEA. This law is suggested to be the product of the Title VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964 (Glenn Little, 2014). While title VII was expected to avert all forms of discrimination it didn t not include age as one of the five protected classes. However, the main mission was to provide equal opportunities and being the journey away from discrimination against employees. So Congress looked upon the Secretary of Labor to report on age discrimination. They find out that the data showed widespread amount of discrimination against older workers. Capital Markets And Strategic Issues Essay Capital Markets and Strategic Issues in Fund Raising AAnswer Role of VCs in the company VC is a type of private equity also a financing provided by firms to nascent stage, emerging firms that are promising, show high growth potential (in terms of number of employees, annual revenue, or both). VC firms invest in these mentioned companies in exchange of ownership stake. VCs take on the risk of financing risky start ups thinking that some of the firms will be successful who they pursue. Start ups are usually based on an innovative technology/business model and they are usually from the high technology industries, such as information technology (IT), social media or biotechnology. In exchange for high risk that venture capitalists assume by investing in smaller/startup companies, VCs usually get significant control over company s management decisions, with companies ownership and value. Obtaining VC is different from raising a loan. Lenders have a legal right to interest payment of the principal irrespective of the business success/failure. VC is invested for an equity stake in the business. The return of the VC as a shareholder depends on business growth /profit. Return is earned when the venture capitalist exits . VCs are selective in deciding where to invest in; as a result, firms are looking for the extremely rare yet sought after qualities such as innovative technology, potential for rapid growth, a well developed business model and an impressive management team. Wuthering Heights Meaning Of Love Essay Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë is considered a great Victorian love story between various characters, but most famously, between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. As the novel is a tale of romance, the word love and other related words is used a great deal throughout. It is used to describe the emotions and sentiments of the various characters in relation to other characters. On the surface, love is perceived as something beautiful and amazing but this does not cover the complex layers that it contains. Yet there is a contradiction between the meaning of love that Catherine and Heathcliff communicate to one another in comparison to their actions. In society, when a person loves another person, it is a social norm that they get married to prove that they are committed to one another. However, Catherine refuses to marry Heathcliff despite the emotional and spiritual bond they share because marrying him would be beneath her. The sense of love between the two is so deep that for them not to be wed creates a confusion surrounding their meaning of love. Although the keyword love is used multiple times throughout the novel, one of the first moments it is used in a romantic notion is when Nelly asks Catherine if she loves Edgar. I question why the word love is not firstly used in the context of Catherine and Heathcliff; as they possess a very passionate love. The quote states: First and foremost, do you love Mr. Edgar? Who can help it? Of course I do, she answered (69). However, there is a complication between the type of love that Nelly and Catherine imply. Nelly hopes that Catherine genuinely loves Edgar because she knows that Catherine is in love with Heathcliff. The love that Catherine knowingly possesses in relation to Edgar is selfish and shallow, yet marries him anyway. She marries Edgar because he is socially respectable; he is handsome, young, rich and because he loves her. Edgar seems to have priority over Catherine s love because of his social ... The number of managers varies from one corporation to another and is highly dependent on the size of the corporation. The leadership of a company s management is instrumental as it sets and guides the general direction that the company ought to go. It provides efficient methods in which the company s resources can be utilized in the production of goods and services as well as dealing with any deviations, expected or otherwise, in order to increase the productivity and competitiveness of an organization. This paper will give an in depth analysis of Henri Fayol s perspective on management in addition to exploring other perspectives employed by other authors. Considered as one of the pioneers of modern management, Fayol formulated a theory, which considers management as one of the key skills of an employee, which is vital across all fields. He was the first to recognize that management is a separate activity, which can be studied on its own. An employee with more managerial skills is more valuable than one with only the technical skills (Byrnes 2014, p.81). According to Fayol, the management has five core functions. These are planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Therefore, managerial activities are concerned with formulation of operational plans for the business. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations, both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson, and African American artist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting Prayer in the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality. In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson). Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying. These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). Being a serious topic he avoids colloquialism and mainly uses metaphors to express the meaning. Witnessing how relevant injustice is, Cobi comments on how others react to it observing, I ve seen an ocean run away. He notices how many people (ocean being a Synecdoche for people) have run away and do not help, which emphasizes the repeated lyric, please help me chop this tree down, indicating that the effort to help must be shared. Through this symbolism, Cobi is speaking to the listener and pleads for them to assist as well. This tree represents the injustice in the world that he wants to fight. The Role Of Powers Of Modern Government INTRODUCTION A trend very much in vogue to day in all democratic countries is that only a relatively small part of the total legislative output emanates directly from the legislature. The bulk of the legislation is promulgated by the executive and is known as Delegated Legislation. So a simple definition of Delegated Legislation is that its a type of law which can be made quickly and is not made by Parliament or a law made by a person or a body to whom the Parliament has delegated law making power. Such legislation is made by a body by virtue of the powers conferred on it by a statute. Usually what happens is that the legislature enacts a statute covering only the general principles and policies relating to the subject matter in question, and confers rule making powers on government, or some other administrative agency, to fill in the details. This technique of delegated legislation has assumed central importance in modern Administrative Process. Delegated Legislation is being increasingly used as a major component of the method of modern government. Parliament makes only skeleton, simple framework simple laws with no details which is put on by someone else other than the Parliament and the reason behind that is time because Parliament s time is very limited. • 27. Peace And Violence By Galtung As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault, bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violence is Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on ... This movement maintains that animals and aspects of the natural world have rights. Everything is seen as an integral part of a complex system which needs to be respected. Margaret Sanger Vs Betty Friedan Throughout history, leaders of political and social movements have designed slogans and catchphrases to mobilize ordinary citizens into political and social activists. Historically, activists such as Nelson Mandela, Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and countless others have, in their speeches and writings, created a perfect pairing of words that persists in the mind of the listener. Two such activists of the Twentieth Century were Margaret Sanger and Betty Friedan. Friedan and Sanger greatly influenced the women s rights movement; despite both being feminists, however, their personal beliefs in terms of other civil rights movements often fell at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both Friedan and Sanger popularized phrases which empowered their respective followers and similar activists to push back against a system designed to repress them; the phrases that the two activists used, however, reflected their different brands of activism and revealed their differences of opinion on who mattered both for and in the Women s Rights Movement. : Sanger with the phrase birth control and Friedan with the term feminine mystique. They all want to assert themselves as leader, and because they cannot, clashes between all three characters can be seen instantly. At the beginning of the novel, Ralph and Piggy seem to be the only people on the island. Ralph does not show much interest in Piggy, but Piggy sees it as imperative that they get to know each other and find out if anyone else is on the island. Right away, Piggy s brains and common sense are exhibited. Ralph passively blows a conch they found, not with a meeting in mind but because it sounds cool. Even though Piggy had the idea of meeting, Ralph is automatically seen by everyone who comes as their leader simply because he blew the conch. This suggests that humans select their leaders based on who brought them together.
