An 8 Bit Inter Integrated Circuit ( I2c )
The PCF8574AN is an 8 bit inter integrated circuit (I2C) bus input/output (I/O) expander. This
chip allows more I/O in the system. The I2C bus is a network which contains a master and slave.
For this project the master is the Raspberry Pi and the slave is the I/O expander chip. The two
communicate via the data and clock lines. The slave has an additional address so that the master
can identify it in the network if there were more slaves.
The HC SR04 module is a distance sensor which utilises ultrasonic signal to conduct its readings.
From the datasheet, it has range of 2cm to 400cm and it uses 40kHz sound waves2. The Trig pin
(input) is used to trigger an ultrasonic pulse, while the Echo pin (output) produces a signal when the
pulse is detected. The Vcc pin is connected to 5V and the GND is connected to the ground pin.
The module was connected as shown in Figure 1b and ran the python program project D c.py to
test the distance measurement. This program outputs the distance detected by the HC SRO4. The
voltage signal from the Trig and Echo pins were connected to an oscilloscope through different
channels and the amplitude and timing were compared. It could be seen that signal for the Trig
has amplitude of 5V and occurs immediately before the Echo , which had an amplitude of ≈
2V. The Echo pin normally produces a voltage of 5V, but with the addition of the 1k resistor, the
output voltage is lowered to about 2V. The resistor is there to protect the GPIO pins

Color Red In The Giver
In The Giver, everything and everyone within the community look the same, and everything
revolves around sameness. At the ceremony of twelve, Jonas receives the assignment as the next
Giver, which represents the most honored assignment in the community. Jonas learns the Rules of

experience pain and suffering, and learns that the last receiver, Rosemary, asked for a release. A

Types of Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is among the most common procedures performed in older people and is one of
the oldest procedures known. It is done due to the lens becoming cloudy and leads to the vision
being affected. This happens when proteins in the lens clump together causing the cloudy area to
become larger, affecting vision more over time. The most common cause is age related, but it could
also be due to other reasons such as traumatic, diabetic, radiation, secondary and congenital.
The first type of cataract treatment done was known as couching. This technique could only be
performed on lenses that were completely opaque, rigid and heavy to the point where the zonules
were fragile. The eye would then be struck with a blunt object with enough force to cause the
zonules to break causing the lens to dislocate and lie in the vitreous cavity, restoring limited,
completely unfocussed vision. Centuries later, this technique was modified where a sharp
instrument was inserted into the eye to break the zonules.
In 1748, the first surgical cataract removal occurred in Paris. Topical anesthetic was instilled and an
incision was made that went halfway around the cornea and the entire opaque lens was removed. It
was important that the lens was ripened meaning completely hardened so that the lens would not
break into pieces when being removed. Thus this surgery was restricted to only the most advanced
cataracts. Fine sutures weren t available at that time so patients were immobilized with

Comparing Carrie Chapman Catt And The National Women s Party
The rivalry between the National Women s Suffrage Association lead by Carrie Chapman Catt,
and the National Women s Party lead by Alice Paul was only intensified by each group s intense
desire to as quickly as possible get the vote for American women. Progress having been stalled and
stagnated after the Civil War, ignited by this halt in momentum the two groups to give no ground or
tolerance for anything that might stall their progress.
Carrie Chapman Catt began her presidency over NAWSA after the retirement of former president
Susan B. Anthony. Her first years were spent increasing membership, creating highly successful
fundraisers as well as helping organize the International Women s Suffrage Association, however in
1904 her husband s failing health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

suffrage would come quickest if not only via stat by state reform. However the controversial,
radical work by Alice Paul and the National Women s Party caused no small divide with in

In 1915, after advocating for women s suffrage abroad as president of the International Women s
Suffrage Association, Carrie Chapman Catt returned to the states to resume her presidency over
NAWSA. Catt s leadership focused on diplomacy and lady like respectability so as to convince
people of the legitimacy of their cause and to separate themselves from the more militant and
controversial suffragists of England. She redirected NAWSA back to solely

Metaphors In Lolita
1.Briefly summarize the contents of the passage.
Nabokov begins the passage by explaining that authors often experience comfort from certain works
they ve written. He says that one book or another has special moments in it that represent something
delightful to the authors, just like some scenes in Lolita are dear to him. After he processed to
describe these moments, Nabokov starts talking about how readers often misjudge his works, don t
understand the real meaning of it, give it more credit even though it is simple a fictional novel, or
even diagnose him with depression and such based on the novel. He finally ends with vaguely
telling people of what is was like to write a book like Lolita in English.

The latter quote could also refer to the following section where he lists several elements in the
book dear to him that are like a summer day, but hidden behind the haze of all the other words.
Although they may be overlooked, Nabokov also says that these selected elements are the nerves
of the novel. In the human body the nervous system is the major controlling, regulatory, and
communicating system in the body, therefore to Nabokov, these moments depict the essence of
Lolita. Further down the passage, the author remotely says I feel my voice rising to a much too
strident pitch referring to the American critic who dubbed his novel to be his love affair with the
romantic novel. By this quote he mean that he may be too harsh to criticize his English reviewers
as they have not read his Russian novels and would not be able to properly judge his English

Unique Aspects of Industrial Market Segmentation
What are the Unique Aspects of Business Market Segmentation?
A business firm must define the market in which it wishes to operate.
In defining the market, business market managers choose descriptors (bases) that characterize and
delimit a market, with the intent pinpointing groups of firms that are of greater interest to the
supplier firm.

Theu.s. Gun Violence Is Becoming A Very Critical Issue As...
n the U.S. gun violence is becoming a very critical issue as death tolls increase. In 2015, the
Unites States had an average of one mass shooting per day, meaning there have been no shootings
in which four or more people have been killed by a single gunman. As hundreds of people die each
year from gun violence, strengthening the United Statesgun laws in becoming a necessity to reduce
violence, as done in other countries; however, because of the belief that mental illness is the
primary cause of gun violence, political lobbying, and the Second Amendment, passing these laws
may prove very challenging.
After the Port Arthur massacre, the Australian government took a successful action against gun
violence by passing a program that decreased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Private ownership of guns was almost totally banned. Even after these strict gun laws, gun
violence rates increased in England and Wales after the gun laws were passed, peaking at 2003
2004, with almost 25,000 incidents. However, according to CNN, there has been a decrease by 53
percent in homicide rates from 2004 to 2011 (Hartmann). Even after this mixed outcome, Anthony
Faiola, the Washington Post s Berlin bureau chief, still states that the most current statistics
available show that firearms were used to kill 59 people in all of England and Wales in 2011,
compared with 77 such homicides in Washington D.C., alone (Hartmann). Although the effect of
Britain s gun laws is much less clear cut than that of Australia, the impact is still noticeable.
However, mental illness is believed to be as the prime cause of gun violence by many, which
recent data contradicts. In 2013, over 45 percent of respondents to a national survey said that
people with mental illness were more dangerous than other people. According to two recent
Gallup polls, from 2011 and 2013, more people believe that mass shootings result from a failure of
the mental health system than from easy access to guns. The belief has even affected politics and
laws. Anybody who has been admitted into a mental hospital or is considered mentally defective is
not allowed to purchase firearms after the 1968 Gun Control Act (Konnikova). Jeffrey Swanson, a

Literature Review On Stress Induced Somatization
Review: Stress induced somatization in spouses of deployed and nondeployed servicemen
Summary:
In Stress induced somatization is spouses of deployed and nondeployed serviceman, authors
Burton et al. s (2009) found spouses of deployed serviceman had significantly higher perceived
stress scores than spouses of nondeployed service members . The authors used a survey research
type of study with participatory information was demonstrated in the response information. They
describe their main claim is to compare the perceived stress experienced by spouses of deployed
versus non deployed servicemen. A sub claim is compare the level of somatization experienced in
both groups. An additional sub claim is to determine the relationship between perceived stress and
level of somatization experienced by spouses (p.333)
Materials and methods included a convenience sample of 130 participants from military
installations in the mid Atlantic region of the United States All were female, age 18 and older with
an active duty classification. The authors used a transactional system of analysis using a perceived
stress scale, PSS 10. Further, a once only study interval, with no trials involved. Consequently, the
authors sought a form survey and used a t test in determination. The authors claimed construct
validity was achieved by supporting material result with higher stress levels in deployed serviceman
spouses (p .001). Somatization also significantly higher in spouses of deployed

Causes Of Birth Defects
Causes of Birth Defects
Every day a baby is born with a birth defect, and these defects range from minor abnormalities that
need no treatment, to severe defects that may need surgery, need medication, or even cause
disabilities. Caused by environmental influences or inheritance, a birth defect is a biochemical or
physical abnormality present at birth. Around 4,000 birth defects have been discovered throughout
the years and each year 1 out of 33 babies are born with a defect ( Gupta ). What mothers do while
pregnant can be a major factor that causes a birth defect. The most common causes of birth defects
include smoking, alcohol use, and recreational drug use while pregnant.
Smoking during pregnancy is one of the most common causes of birth defects in babies. If a mother
is smoking during her pregnancy the fetus is also experiencing the effects smoking can cause. On
average twenty percent of women smoke during their pregnancies causing 1,000 baby deaths each
year in the United States ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). Smoking during pregnancy accounts for
thirty percent of babies born underweight, fourteen percent of premature labors, and ten percent of
all infant deaths ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). The placenta connects from the uterus to the
developing fetus, giving the baby the nutrients and oxygen it needs to grow. When a mother inhales
the poisonous gases from the cigarette, they travel into the mother s blood stream and through the
placenta into the fetus. While this

The Non Alcoholic Beverage Segment
The non alcoholic beverage segment is a very competitive and dynamic sector and encompasses
a broad range of categories as showed in the chart below: The market size is currently around $
170 billion in sales and is projected to grow to $190 billion by 2020. As the graph below points
out, the CSDs remain the largest single sub category within the segment. However, as the CSD sub
category continues to decline, it is expected that most of the segment growth will be driven by
smaller, emerging better for you brands.
In reality, many of these sub categories are already experiencing a growth driven by both the
increasing demand for healthier, better for you alternatives and the companies abilities to launch
new products with original flavors and innovative packaging.
As outlined in the chart above, between 2003 and 2013, per capita consumption of CSDs
decreased by 23%, while bottled water saw a 105% increase and juices and other noncarbonated
drinks increased 55%. While the CSDs sales are expected to continue declining, other healthier and
functional non alcoholic beverage categories are expected to continue gaining share.
MARKET TRENDS
At least three factors may be considered as growth propellers in the group of healthy, non
carbonated beverages. The most important and widely discussed is the growing consumer
awareness and concerns about the effects of diet on health and well being. This new approach,
which has been producing profound effects on consumption habits,

Collegiate Athletics Vs. Indiana State University Board Of...
Collegiate athletics is growing each day and the athletes are becoming faster, stronger, and
quicker each day. As the competition on the field improves, the risk of injury also becomes more
of a possibility. While strength and conditioning coaches have created athletes who are able to
withstand more physical play and can rehab quicker from injury, they have also created monsters
on the playing field and court. As collegiate athletics grows into a multibillion dollar industry, the
players expect to have more benefits available to them, including workers compensation. We have
seen a variety of situations arise recently were players are looking to secure their own safety when
playing such physical games.
In 1976, a football student athlete at Indiana State University suffered an injury that left him as a
quadriplegic. In 1983, the case Rensing v. Indiana State University Board of Trustees was heard by
the Indiana State Supreme Court. The court decided that the Indiana court of appeals incorrectly
concluded that Rensing was an employee under the Workmen s Compensation Act and therefore
Indiana State University was not responsible to provide Rensing with any medical or disability
expenses. It is a requirement of the NCAA for every athlete to carry health insurance and to provide
health insurance to those athletes who are not able to provide their own health insurance. It is also

What Is The Dystopia In Watchmen
In this paper I argue that Alan Moore s Watchmen uses its dystopia to critique the selfish nature of
humanity that abandons morals to achieve one s goals and a society that trusts superheroes without
legal and moral authority to oversee their power. By depicting each superhero s violent actions and
their moral decisions, it criticizes the consequentialist s argument that the end justifies the means .
Watchmenfeatures superheroes that are normal humans who don t possess super powers except Dr.
Manhattan and struggling for their moral standings from their past. After Adrian Veidt destroys the
half of New York, he asks, I did the right thing, didn t I? . Although other characters do not directly

Among the superheroes, Rorschach and Adrian Veidt act on consequentialism. To bring justice,
Rorschach brutally punishes criminals. Breaking fingers is a common method that Rorschach
uses on criminals and he wrongly uses violence on Moloch to investigate the case of the murder
of the Comedian. Similar to Rorschach, Adrian Veidt s decision to blow up the half of New York
is to achieve the peace between the US and the Soviet Union. Watchmen s dystopia infers whether
sacrificing is necessary to form a peaceful society. It asks how much sacrifice is morally
acceptable to achieve peace and the each masked heroes have different opinions on the issue.
Watchmen s dystopia not only criticizes anarchy like structure that lacks the rule of law, but also it
criticizes the authority figure of the society. By showing the actions of the watchmen who acts as
the guardians of America, it dismisses the idea of existence of morally right or wrong actions. Each
watchman s perspective of humanity is different. Their difference of philosophy affects their
decision making differently. Each watchman represents different values in the society and it is

A Study Into Their Feeding Preferences
The importance of bees to our agriculture merits a study into their feeding preferences. Bees
pollinate a large proportion of crops and without them there would be a rapid decline in crop
production. The connection between bee feeding preferences and flower pigmentation is examined
using Viola cornuta. Three color variations were used including dark violet, light violet, and white
flowers. Each variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals and this was repeated
in ten different trials starting at 1:00PM at Tallahassee Nursery. The trend resulting from the data
showed strongest preference for the most pigmented dark violet flowers and weakest preference for
the least pigmented white flowers. There are many factors to take... Show more content on

On the spectral range chart for bees a large portion of their visual range is shades of blue and purple
(Riddle, 2016).
The aim of this study is to observe how color affects the feeding preferences of bees in the wild.
The spectral range of the bee suggests that bees will prefer violet colored flowers and more
specifically highly pigmented violet flowers. Due to this it is suspected that bees will prefer to
feed on dark purple colored Violas cornuta over the light purple and white varieties of Viola
cornuta. It could also occur that bees will feed equally across dark purple, light purple, and white
Viola cornuta color groups.
Methods Three pigment levels of Violas cornuta including dark violet, light violet, and white flower
variations were used. In an outdoor nursery setting the plants were studied in five by five rows of
plants and the plots were located next to each other. A total of thirty minutes was spent observing
the plants at the set time of 1:00PM. Each pigment variation was observed for ten minutes in one
minute intervals. The number of bees that land and feed on the particular variant being observed
was recorded. The mean number of bees on each pigment variation after ten observation periods
was calculated. A one tail ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey test was used to analyze the data.
Results The total number of bees present on a color variation (dark violet, light violet, and white)
observed across ten trials is shown in Figure 1. The

Risk Analysis Of Risk Analysis And Management
1.
Risk analysis and management
One of the key segments of applying administrative safeguards to ensure or protect the association
s health care records or data is known as risk analysis. It is difficult to set up a successful risk
management program if the association doesn t know about the dangers or risks that exist. Risk
analysis is generally new to medical field. Couple of associations/ organization implemented formal
security hazard/risk assessment before the HIPAA rules publication. This is not enough to prevent
the risks in health care. So, health care has to adapt risk assessment processes similarly like other
industries
Eight steps for risk analysis process
Eight steps for risk analysis process explained by Steve Weil (2004)
1.Boundary definition The organization or association should build up a detailed inventory of all
health care data and data frameworks. This audit can be directed utilizing interviews, examinations,
surveys, or different means. The essential thing in this step is to recognize all the patient particular
medical record data, Medical information systems (both inner and outer), and clients of the data and
health care information system.
2.Threat identification Distinguishing risk will bring about a list of every single potential risk to
the association s medicinal services information systems. The three general sorts of risk are
a.Natural, for example, surges and flames
b.Human, this can be deliberate or accidental
c.Environmental, for

The Social Center For Lgbt Youth
The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply What social outlets are available
for LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area? . We chose this question because the majority of
the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness
is a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT themed social
gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards
systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable.
Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT centric for these young
people, being marginalized members of an already marginalized community, the homeless have
distinct needs that other individuals don t. And when these needs aren t met, the consequences can
be tragic. Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide
(Center for American Progress, 2010). Before we began our work, officials at our site informed us
that they did not have a list of social outlets for the clients, which made our asset map that much
more important.
We drew the boundaries of the map around the greater Los Angeles area. This decision was made
because many of the clients, being homeless, do not have the means to go far distances. It would
have been useless to include social outlets in San Diego, for instance. As far as our criteria for
choosing assets, we included

Acts 7:58 59 reads, When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the
witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul. They went on stoning
Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit! Saul, later named Paul,
admittedly confesses he consented and was present when Stephen was murdered. Saul was
deceived by Satan, and blinded by his zeal to stand solely on the Torah. Saul admits that his
conscience continually badgered him in reference to his behavior and actions. We see this in
Acts 26:14 which reads, And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me
in the Hebrew dialect, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against
the goads. Every Christian can see hope in the conversion of Saul. First because anyone, no matter
how sinful, can be converted and changed. Secondly, there is hope that God will never leave
persecuted Christians, and He will use every situation to fulfill his will.
Saul s Encounter with Christ
Saul was traveling near Damascus on his way to persecute and possibly kill more Christians. He

blindness.

she decides to prove herself to them and fight for more rights; therefore she completes 200 parking

GDP and Fiscal Policy Essay
The gross domestic product (GDP) is an essential component of measuring business cycles. The
most universal description of a recession is two uninterrupted quarterly declines within the GDP,
which is basically the totality of every good and service that a country produces (Shenk, 2008).
This description may be deemed as one dimensional due to the fact that GDP is a measurement of

Appropriate government bodies make the determination of national fiscal policies. Occasionally
there are involuntary economic establishments and every now and then a discretionary fiscal policy
is necessary. These elements are established by the government bodies, which are predominately the
President or Congress. While economic activities rise and fall; both taxes and fiscal expenditures
involuntarily act in response in ways that even out the economy. For instance, during an economic
deceleration, the government s spending on benefits to the unemployed elevates automatically
while the rate of unemployment increases. This spending increase is automatic in that it does not
entail unequivocal proceedings by the President or Congress. Likewise, payments of tax decline
automatically as the economy enters a recession (Shenk, 2008). In addition to the fiscal policy s
automatic reactions, governments have the capacity to establish discretionary fiscal modifications
in order to combat an economic downturn. For instance, the stimulus package and bailouts in
which Congress recently approved is a great case in point of the discretionary fiscal policy.
Fiscal policies may potentially have a remarkable impact on both the production and employment of
a country. Expansionary fiscal policy seeks to enhance both an economy s demand and output. They
do this through enhanced governmental expenditures, or through the reductions of tax which

The Lego Case Study
In 2014, LEGO announced record results. In the financial year 2013, the company revenues had
increased by 10% to 25.4 billion DKK (Annual Report). Profits before tax were 8.2 billion DKK
representing a net income of 24% while operating margins were at a staggering 32.8% (Annual

Knudstrop stepped in as CEO in 2003, he described the then financial state of the company as a
burning platform which generated negative cash flows that would lead to its eventual collapse
(Ashcroft 3). Sadly, his portrayal was not that far from the truth. Throughout the early 2000s, the
company was facing losses of ~1 billion DKK yearly and was falling behind it competitors, Mattel
and Hasboro (Annual Report). So how did LEGO turn itself around in a short span of 8 years? ...

LEGO, the company has always been known by kids and parents alike for its colorful building

far from its core business of manufacturing building blocks and ventured in industries which it no

Also, a lack of financial and product profitability analysis meant that management had no idea

Another problem was that retailers were constantly overstocked with products which offered

Lennie s Savior
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, tells the story of Lennie Small and George Milton, who are
two migrant ranch workers, moved from farm to farm in California trying to find new jobs. This
story took place in the United States during the Great Depression. In this essay, I argue that George
should ve shot Lennie because Curley was about to do ten times worse to the poor fella, he got
the better end of the deal. I can still tend the rabbits, Goerge? I didn t mean no harm, George,
quoted from Lennie. That just shows how innocent he really is, which is another reason that
George killing Lennie was really a saving of torture for the guy. All he cared about was tending
those rabbits and he deserved a peaceful death! George was right to kill Lennie, his intentions were
to save Lennie from a worse fate. He really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Exploring And Identifying Consciousness Through...
Dissertation
Exploring and identifying consciousness through observation and understanding the movement of
naturally occurring elements using scientific explanation alongside artistic and philosophical
exploration to determine the nature of consciousness within all life forms and matter and whether
possible definition could reside in a combination of these separate disciplines?
Introduction
I believe understanding consciousness and giving it a platform to stand without disproval or being
discredited is crucial for the development of our society and understanding our relationship to one
another. I want to explore and identify consciousness through observation and understanding of
naturally occurring elements. I will use scientific and artistic explanation alongside philosophy and
exploration of the use of psychedelic drugs to try and determine the nature of consciousness and
whether matter is in fact conscious and if our own consciousness is capable of extending past the
impermanence of our flesh.
The nature of human consciousness is ever debatable, questionable and somewhat unexplainable.
We continuously make conscious decisions without recognition for how we as a species are
capable of doing so, it is understood by materialistic science that our consciousness is a product of
our brain activity and nothing more however there is an abundance of research that suggests this
may not be the case and our conscious mind extends into our environment ultimately connecting us

The Pros And Uses Of Information Technology
One of the fastest growing industries in the world is information technology (IT). From waiting 2
minutes for your page to open; to waiting 5 seconds for your page to open with everything loaded.
While there is a bunch of good things the internet has provided, there is also a bunch of cyber
security threats out there. Everyone is prone to cyber attack as long as you have an electronic
device hooked up to the internet. Organization and businesses now rely on the internet for
transactions, storing information, conducting work, and so much more. One major organization
relying on the internet is the military, also known as the Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD
faces many cyber attacks. While the DoD does face many attacks, they have implemented security
measurements to thwart millions of cyber security threats. Kirschbaum (2015) shows in his article
that the DoD has started to reach out to businesses to help secure their network more. The DoD
today has become one of the hardest networks to hack into.
The DoD is targeted due to the amount of sensitive information they hold that isn t released to the
general public. Personnel with the appropriate security clearance will be granted access to this
information if they have need to know. Adversaries try to hack into the DoD to find this
information. The information might contain troop movements, personally identifiable information,
building schematics, weapon schematics, and other information that is deemed sensitive if released.

Deception In Antony And Cleopatra
Antony and Cleopatra
Deliberately falsifying information for personal gain causing an ensuing conflict is a motif
clearly contrived within William Shakespeare s tragedy Antony and Cleopatra. Deception is
represented within the protagonist, the queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, a tempting seductress who has
a false relationship with Antony only for personal motives. Within the play Cleopatra fabricates
illnesses, deceives Antony s love through her betrayal at sea and likens Caesar to a god, Antony s
enemy, all to achieve attention and advance politically. Created in 1606 during the Elizabethan
era the characters within the play are based on an imaginary and partially real concept of
historical characters. Shakespeare showcases Cleopatra as a woman unlike many of the time,
holding power over man. In the visual representation a mask, ships on a stormy sea and a serpent
are used to represent the act of deception. Antony s fatal attraction to the queen, and Cleopatra s
hidden desires bind the two together to create a falsified love on public display that is fueled by
deception.
The queen of Egypt Cleopatra, as represented in the Shakespearean tragedy, embodies a deceiving
and controlling nature. This is the cause of conflicts between herself and Antony, concocted for
selfish, personal gain. Cleopatra twists the mind of Antony, fabricating a lieto get his attention onto
her. If you find him sad, say I am dancing. If in mirth, report That I am sudden sick. (Cleopatra: 1,
3, 3 5). Shakespeare s use of dialogue is there to express Cleopatra s jealousy of his wife Fulvia
and how she wishes for Antony to feel longing for her and regret that he went back to Rome
leaving a sick queen alone. She reiterates her feigning spell over Antony to distort his emotions.
Mardian go tell him that I have slain myself. Say that the last I spoke was Antony , piteously
(Cleopatra: 4, 13, 6 8). She fakes her death accomplishing her goal of Antony forgetting about his
anger towards her and instead to feel endearing sadness. The Egyptian queen manipulates Antony
to believe that her love for him is real, yet he is blind to her performance. Here she showcases the
power she holds above Antony, unusual in both Shakespeare s time and the

The Connection between Sentence Comprehension and Motor...
There is contemporary evidence that some language tasks that require an individual to comprehend
action words (e.g. walk) and nouns of manipulable objects (e.g.. mug) activate regions on the motor
cortex. This event is recognized as motor resonance. However, this phenomenon challenges present
theoretical explanation of word comprehension. There are two dominant perceptions which are
followed in cognitive psychology. The first account is that individuals understand words such as
chew from previous practice; therefore, for one to comprehend a word they must consider the prior
actions and experiences that are connected with that word. The second explanation is an alternative
where the word evokes an action. The actions become an automatic byproduct after an individuals
resolves the connotation of the word. A recent study conducted by Masson, Bub, and Lavelle at the
University of Victoria, examines the degree to which context controls the action representations
elicited by a word. The goal of the research question was to gain a deeper understanding of the
connection between motor resonance and sentence comprehension. This was analyzed through
action representations that are dependent on grasping an manipulable object such as cellphone,
wine glass, pencil, hairspray, etc. The two action representations were volumetric (V) actions and
functional (F) actions. Volumetric actions function to lift or a move an object, whereas, functional
actions implement the expected function

The Portrayal Of The Catholic Church
The Portrayal of the Catholic Church in Film The Catholic Church as we know it is much different
than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to
mind when the words Catholic Church are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s
what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very
different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in
todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system
or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or
attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The CatholicChurch had great
influence on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who
operated under a theocratic ruling. With Godbeing the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the
next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and
everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had access to education,
individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could think of.1 The
ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a Christian, and to
conquer lands that were not under Christian rule and use them under the power of the Catholic
Church. The goal of the inquisition was to send out

animal sources. New food crops have enabled people to live in places where they previously had
only slim means of feeding themselves. Each new cargo brought new changes to the European diet,
helping to improve eating and strengthening national identities with cultural foods. Some of the
exotic new crops had humble beginnings; before the tomato made its way into European diets, it
was a weed in the Aztec maize fields. The potatoes which hung on to Spanish ships wasn t

any European grain, the potato eventually became the dominant food of northern Europe s working

A few of the other plants that took root in the European palate was the cacao bean for chocolate,
lima beans, corn, peanuts, pumpkins, squash, cashews, and pineapples. Sunflowers, petunias,
marigolds and poinsettias also made their way to Europe. Several other plants of importance

imply that any person can fit into this type of culture whether they are the right fit or not. Collins
addressed culture of discipline from the viewpoint that a person who is already disciplined does
not need to be persuaded to act disciplined, but will naturally be disciplined. The company would
seek only those people that are disciplined to be a part of their culture of discipline; consequently,
this would only allow those are the right fit to be employed

Argumentative Essay On Jump Racing
The issue that has been discussed recently is horse jump racing, which is where the horses race
across the track jumping brush fences and sometimes ditches. This is an issue in sport because
many horses are having horrific falls and dying from participating in the event, which many people
do not understand. Some people think it is good for the community and some people disagree.
The argument for jump racing to continue is that many people think that horses that have died from
jump racing are purely freak accidents, that this could happen with any animal in any sport. The
people involved and that support the sport suggest that they know the risk, they make sure
organisations such as the RSPCA are involved to oversee the sport and that horses ... Show more

Statistics over many years have shown that jumps races are even more dangerous and harmful for
horses, with up to 20 times more fatalities than flat races (Horse Racing, 2017). Jump racing is also
a lot more demanding then flat races as they are longer, they also jump and run approximately
the same speed as flat races and the jockeys are required to be heavier. Many people have even
bigger issues with the training and well being of these horses. If normal race horses have
bleeding in the lungs, stuck in stalls for large periods of time, being over worked and given
unnatural foods to improve their performance, it must be the same or even worse for jump
racing horses. Just recently at the Oakbank Easter Races another horse was put down during the

William Gulliver s Travels And Oroonoko
Neoclassicism in Gulliver s Travels and Oroonoko Penned sometime between the mid 1600s and
late 1700s, a literary genre defined by artificiality and formality, neoclassical literature reflected the
style of literature adopted from the Greeks and the Romans. As such, the literature tends to focus on
glib characters who were preoccupied with appearances rather than genuineness. In addition, having
good manners and public comportment was essential. The literature during the Neoclassical era is
characterized by structure, order, and accuracy, traits that directly undermined attitudes during the

Swift s Gulliver s Travels is a clear example of satirical social commentary intended to shed light
on man s imperfections and the reality of human nature. The protagonist first travels to an island
called Lilliput, a place in which the denizens small males who are about six inches in height
comport themselves in a petty, pretentious manner and convey the self importance often
demonstrated by life sized men. These residents are vicious, morally bereft, hypocritical, jealous,
greedy, and deceitful, displaying all very human traits. Swift utilizes the Lilliputians to satirize
particular events and people in the protagonist s life and to mirror the flawed and treacherous
nature of man that became so blaringly public during the eighteenth century. In comparing
Lilliputian physical stature and societal values with his own size and English bred values,
Gulliver finds the Lilliputians to be physically and societally flawed. Gulliver then travels in
Brobdingnag, an island peopled by 60 foot giants, where the residents put the protagonist back in
his place, offering the bulk of your natives, to be the most pernicious race of odious vermin . . . to
crawl upon the surface of the Earth. (1460). As such, the giants function as moralizing elements
who reside in a practice, moral utopia. Virtue and good will permeate this island, which manifests in

Baseball is a similar sport but there are a lot of significant differences. The games last nine

Her feeling was rather that, given the nature of the human couple, the love of man and woman is

and dog, that oddity of human history probably unplanned by the creator (297). Tereza knew as
the dog lay dying that the reason why she snuggled so close to Karenin was her commitment.
That same commitment was the reason why she still slept next to Tomas every night. Love,
whether we perceive it or not, has a hold that stitches souls together in the patchwork of life. It
was not until after the dog s death that Tomas grasped this idea as well. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp;Karenin proved to be a symbol of Tomas and Tereza s marriage and the prospect of death
seemed to inevitably doom the marriage. Tereza understood that Karenin s commitment to
please was the reason why the dog held on. Kundera s following passage reflects this, It was sad,
what she said, yet without realizing it they were happy. They were happy not in spite of their
sadness but thanks to it. They were holding hands and both had the same image in their eyes: a
limping dog who represented ten years of their lives (293). In the existence of a dog there was a
light. This light did not fade when the dog s existence was ceased, yet grew brighter in the eyes of
a man. Tomas learned that in his years of endless escapades and rendevous with strange woman,
was his resistence to love and commitment to Tereza. He

  • 2. An 8 Bit Inter Integrated Circuit ( I2c ) The PCF8574AN is an 8 bit inter integrated circuit (I2C) bus input/output (I/O) expander. This chip allows more I/O in the system. The I2C bus is a network which contains a master and slave. For this project the master is the Raspberry Pi and the slave is the I/O expander chip. The two communicate via the data and clock lines. The slave has an additional address so that the master can identify it in the network if there were more slaves. The HC SR04 module is a distance sensor which utilises ultrasonic signal to conduct its readings. From the datasheet, it has range of 2cm to 400cm and it uses 40kHz sound waves2. The Trig pin (input) is used to trigger an ultrasonic pulse, while the Echo pin (output) produces a signal when the pulse is detected. The Vcc pin is connected to 5V and the GND is connected to the ground pin. The module was connected as shown in Figure 1b and ran the python program project D c.py to test the distance measurement. This program outputs the distance detected by the HC SRO4. The voltage signal from the Trig and Echo pins were connected to an oscilloscope through different channels and the amplitude and timing were compared. It could be seen that signal for the Trig has amplitude of 5V and occurs immediately before the Echo , which had an amplitude of ≈ 2V. The Echo pin normally produces a voltage of 5V, but with the addition of the 1k resistor, the output voltage is lowered to about 2V. The resistor is there to protect the GPIO pins ... At the ceremony of twelve, Jonas receives the assignment as the next Giver, which represents the most honored assignment in the community. Jonasbegins to experience pain and suffering, and learns that the last receiver, Rosemary, asked for a release. • 4. Types of Cataract Surgery Cataract surgery is among the most common procedures performed in older people and is one of the oldest procedures known. It is done due to the lens becoming cloudy and leads to the vision being affected. This happens when proteins in the lens clump together causing the cloudy area to become larger, affecting vision more over time. The most common cause is age related, but it could also be due to other reasons such as traumatic, diabetic, radiation, secondary and congenital. The first type of cataract treatment done was known as couching. This technique could only be performed on lenses that were completely opaque, rigid and heavy to the point where the zonules were fragile. The eye would then be struck with a blunt object with enough force to cause the zonules to break causing the lens to dislocate and lie in the vitreous cavity, restoring limited, completely unfocussed vision. Centuries later, this technique was modified where a sharp instrument was inserted into the eye to break the zonules. In 1748, the first surgical cataract removal occurred in Paris. Topical anesthetic was instilled and an incision was made that went halfway around the cornea and the entire opaque lens was removed. It was important that the lens was ripened meaning completely hardened so that the lens would not break into pieces when being removed. Thus this surgery was restricted to only the most advanced cataracts. Fine sutures weren t available at that time so patients were immobilized with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Carrie Chapman Catt And The National Women s Party The rivalry between the National Women s Suffrage Association lead by Carrie Chapman Catt, and the National Women s Party lead by Alice Paul was only intensified by each group s intense desire to as quickly as possible get the vote for American women. Progress having been stalled and stagnated after the Civil War, ignited by this halt in momentum the two groups to give no ground or tolerance for anything that might stall their progress. Carrie Chapman Catt began her presidency over NAWSA after the retirement of former president Susan B. Anthony. Her first years were spent increasing membership, creating highly successful fundraisers as well as helping organize the International Women s Suffrage Association, however in 1904 her husband s failing health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time NAWSA became increasingly divided. Having long held to the belief that suffrage would come quickest if not only via stat by state reform. However the controversial, radical work by Alice Paul and the National Women s Party caused no small divide with in NAWSA as to the question if the NWP s methods were better or more of a hindrance to the cause. In 1915, after advocating for women s suffrage abroad as president of the International Women s Suffrage Association, Carrie Chapman Catt returned to the states to resume her presidency over NAWSA. Catt s leadership focused on diplomacy and lady like respectability so as to convince people of the legitimacy of their cause and to separate themselves from the more militant and controversial suffragists of England. • 6. Metaphors In Lolita 1.Briefly summarize the contents of the passage. Nabokov begins the passage by explaining that authors often experience comfort from certain works they ve written. He says that one book or another has special moments in it that represent something delightful to the authors, just like some scenes in Lolita are dear to him. After he processed to describe these moments, Nabokov starts talking about how readers often misjudge his works, don t understand the real meaning of it, give it more credit even though it is simple a fictional novel, or even diagnose him with depression and such based on the novel. He finally ends with vaguely telling people of what is was like to write a book like Lolita in English. 2.Identify metaphors and discuss their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The latter quote could also refer to the following section where he lists several elements in the book dear to him that are like a summer day, but hidden behind the haze of all the other words. Although they may be overlooked, Nabokov also says that these selected elements are the nerves of the novel. Causes Of Birth Defects Causes of Birth Defects Every day a baby is born with a birth defect, and these defects range from minor abnormalities that need no treatment, to severe defects that may need surgery, need medication, or even cause disabilities. Caused by environmental influences or inheritance, a birth defect is a biochemical or physical abnormality present at birth. Around 4,000 birth defects have been discovered throughout the years and each year 1 out of 33 babies are born with a defect ( Gupta ). What mothers do while pregnant can be a major factor that causes a birth defect. The most common causes of birth defects include smoking, alcohol use, and recreational drug use while pregnant. Smoking during pregnancy is one of the most common causes of birth defects in babies. If a mother is smoking during her pregnancy the fetus is also experiencing the effects smoking can cause. On average twenty percent of women smoke during their pregnancies causing 1,000 baby deaths each year in the United States ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). Smoking during pregnancy accounts for thirty percent of babies born underweight, fourteen percent of premature labors, and ten percent of all infant deaths ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). As the graph below points out, the CSDs remain the largest single sub category within the segment. However, as the CSD sub category continues to decline, it is expected that most of the segment growth will be driven by smaller, emerging better for you brands. In reality, many of these sub categories are already experiencing a growth driven by both the increasing demand for healthier, better for you alternatives and the companies abilities to launch new products with original flavors and innovative packaging. As outlined in the chart above, between 2003 and 2013, per capita consumption of CSDs decreased by 23%, while bottled water saw a 105% increase and juices and other noncarbonated drinks increased 55%. While the CSDs sales are expected to continue declining, other healthier and functional non alcoholic beverage categories are expected to continue gaining share. The aim of this study is to observe how color affects the feeding preferences of bees in the wild. The spectral range of the bee suggests that bees will prefer violet colored flowers and more specifically highly pigmented violet flowers. Due to this it is suspected that bees will prefer to feed on dark purple colored Violas cornuta over the light purple and white varieties of Viola cornuta. It could also occur that bees will feed equally across dark purple, light purple, and white Viola cornuta color groups. Methods Three pigment levels of Violas cornuta including dark violet, light violet, and white flower variations were used. In an outdoor nursery setting the plants were studied in five by five rows of plants and the plots were located next to each other. A total of thirty minutes was spent observing the plants at the set time of 1:00PM. Each pigment variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals. The number of bees that land and feed on the particular variant being observed was recorded. The mean number of bees on each pigment variation after ten observation periods was calculated. The most universal description of a recession is two uninterrupted quarterly declines within the GDP, which is basically the totality of every good and service that a country produces (Shenk, 2008). This description may be deemed as one dimensional due to the fact that GDP is a measurement of the national economic performance based on a sole economic statistic. Occasionally there are involuntary economic establishments and every now and then a discretionary fiscal policy is necessary. These elements are established by the government bodies, which are predominately the President or Congress. While economic activities rise and fall; both taxes and fiscal expenditures involuntarily act in response in ways that even out the economy. For instance, during an economic deceleration, the government s spending on benefits to the unemployed elevates automatically while the rate of unemployment increases. This spending increase is automatic in that it does not entail unequivocal proceedings by the President or Congress. Likewise, payments of tax decline automatically as the economy enters a recession (Shenk, 2008). In addition to the fiscal policy s automatic reactions, governments have the capacity to establish discretionary fiscal modifications in order to combat an economic downturn. For instance, the stimulus package and bailouts in which Congress recently approved is a great case in point of the discretionary fiscal policy. Shakespeare showcases Cleopatra as a woman unlike many of the time, holding power over man. In the visual representation a mask, ships on a stormy sea and a serpent are used to represent the act of deception. Antony s fatal attraction to the queen, and Cleopatra s hidden desires bind the two together to create a falsified love on public display that is fueled by deception. The queen of Egypt Cleopatra, as represented in the Shakespearean tragedy, embodies a deceiving and controlling nature. This is the cause of conflicts between herself and Antony, concocted for selfish, personal gain. Cleopatra twists the mind of Antony, fabricating a lieto get his attention onto her. If you find him sad, say I am dancing. If in mirth, report That I am sudden sick. (Cleopatra: 1, 3, 3 5). Shakespeare s use of dialogue is there to express Cleopatra s jealousy of his wife Fulvia and how she wishes for Antony to feel longing for her and regret that he went back to Rome leaving a sick queen alone. She reiterates her feigning spell over Antony to distort his emotions. Mardian go tell him that I have slain myself. Say that the last I spoke was Antony , piteously (Cleopatra: 4, 13, 6 8). She fakes her death accomplishing her goal of Antony forgetting about his anger towards her and instead to feel endearing sadness. The Egyptian queen manipulates Antony to believe that her love for him is real, yet he is blind to her performance. Here she showcases the power she holds above Antony, unusual in both Shakespeare s time and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Connection between Sentence Comprehension and Motor... There is contemporary evidence that some language tasks that require an individual to comprehend action words (e.g. walk) and nouns of manipulable objects (e.g.. mug) activate regions on the motor cortex. This event is recognized as motor resonance. However, this phenomenon challenges present theoretical explanation of word comprehension. There are two dominant perceptions which are followed in cognitive psychology. The first account is that individuals understand words such as chew from previous practice; therefore, for one to comprehend a word they must consider the prior actions and experiences that are connected with that word. The second explanation is an alternative where the word evokes an action. The actions become an automatic byproduct after an individuals resolves the connotation of the word. A recent study conducted by Masson, Bub, and Lavelle at the University of Victoria, examines the degree to which context controls the action representations elicited by a word. The goal of the research question was to gain a deeper understanding of the connection between motor resonance and sentence comprehension. This was analyzed through action representations that are dependent on grasping an manipulable object such as cellphone, wine glass, pencil, hairspray, etc. The two action representations were volumetric (V) actions and functional (F) actions. Volumetric actions function to lift or a move an object, whereas, functional actions implement the expected function ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Portrayal Of The Catholic Church The Portrayal of the Catholic Church in Film The Catholic Church as we know it is much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The CatholicChurch had great influence on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With Godbeing the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had access to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a Christian, and to conquer lands that were not under Christian rule and use them under the power of the Catholic Church. New food crops have enabled people to live in places where they previously had only slim means of feeding themselves. Each new cargo brought new changes to the European diet, helping to improve eating and strengthening national identities with cultural foods. Some of the exotic new crops had humble beginnings; before the tomato made its way into European diets, it was a weed in the Aztec maize fields. The potatoes which hung on to Spanish ships wasn t welcomed at first either; Europeans found it unappetizing. But packing more calories per acre than any European grain, the potato eventually became the dominant food of northern Europe s working class. A few of the other plants that took root in the European palate was the cacao bean for chocolate, lima beans, corn, peanuts, pumpkins, squash, cashews, and pineapples. Sunflowers, petunias, marigolds and poinsettias also made their way to Europe. Several other plants of importance include quinine, tobacco, and sugar cane. Quinine is a malaria fighting plant found in the Peruvian Andes. Sugar cane is especially important because of its impact on slavery. While originally a European plant, it thrived in tropical American forests. Scholars estimate that each ton of sugar cost the life on one worker in the New World. Kelman spoke from the standpoint that a person can be adaptive to their environment based upon gratitude and respect for the person or company. This would imply that any person can fit into this type of culture whether they are the right fit or not. Collins addressed culture of discipline from the viewpoint that a person who is already disciplined does not need to be persuaded to act disciplined, but will naturally be disciplined. This is an issue in sport because many horses are having horrific falls and dying from participating in the event, which many people do not understand. Some people think it is good for the community and some people disagree. The argument for jump racing to continue is that many people think that horses that have died from jump racing are purely freak accidents, that this could happen with any animal in any sport. The people involved and that support the sport suggest that they know the risk, they make sure organisations such as the RSPCA are involved to oversee the sport and that horses ... Statistics over many years have shown that jumps races are even more dangerous and harmful for horses, with up to 20 times more fatalities than flat races (Horse Racing, 2017). Jump racing is also a lot more demanding then flat races as they are longer, they also jump and run approximately the same speed as flat races and the jockeys are required to be heavier. Many people have even bigger issues with the training and well being of these horses. If normal race horses have bleeding in the lungs, stuck in stalls for large periods of time, being over worked and given unnatural foods to improve their performance, it must be the same or even worse for jump racing horses. Just recently at the Oakbank Easter Races another horse was put down during the Somerled Hurdle race, almost the length of three kilometers with hurdles throughout. At the last hurdle, the five year old gelding Wheeler Fortune suffered a horrendous leg injury and was euthanized. William Gulliver s Travels And Oroonoko Neoclassicism in Gulliver s Travels and Oroonoko Penned sometime between the mid 1600s and late 1700s, a literary genre defined by artificiality and formality, neoclassical literature reflected the style of literature adopted from the Greeks and the Romans. As such, the literature tends to focus on glib characters who were preoccupied with appearances rather than genuineness. In addition, having good manners and public comportment was essential. The literature during the Neoclassical era is characterized by structure, order, and accuracy, traits that directly undermined attitudes during the Renaissance period. Swift s Gulliver s Travels is a clear example of satirical social commentary intended to shed light on man s imperfections and the reality of human nature. The protagonist first travels to an island called Lilliput, a place in which the denizens small males who are about six inches in height comport themselves in a petty, pretentious manner and convey the self importance often demonstrated by life sized men. These residents are vicious, morally bereft, hypocritical, jealous, greedy, and deceitful, displaying all very human traits. Swift utilizes the Lilliputians to satirize particular events and people in the protagonist s life and to mirror the flawed and treacherous nature of man that became so blaringly public during the eighteenth century. In comparing Lilliputian physical stature and societal values with his own size and English bred values, Gulliver finds the Lilliputians to be physically and societally flawed. Gulliver then travels in Brobdingnag, an island peopled by 60 foot giants, where the residents put the protagonist back in his place, offering the bulk of your natives, to be the most pernicious race of odious vermin . . . to crawl upon the surface of the Earth.
