Identify Different Types Of Drivers
Types of Automobile Drivers Paula Alexandra, an American actress, once said, The cars we
drive say a lot about us. People often choose their automobiles for many different reasons. An
affordable car might be the attraction. Many people spend as much money on a car as they
might a home because style and statement means much to them. Others might select a car based
on the comfort of the ride. This often is the case with more mature drivers. The way we choose
to get from one place to the next shows our priorities and what is important to us. But along with
the type of car we drive, there is something else that clearly says a lot about a person the way they
drive their vehicle. Over a period, habits are developed by drivers and these patterns set in like
cement. Drivers come in a various assortment. Most automobiledrivers can be classified into one of
the following categories: the high speedster driver, the cautious defensive driver, and the reckless
distracted driver, who petrifies me the most.

These types of driver tend to somehow allow everything to wander through their inconsiderate
mind. One example of this dangerous driver tendencies is his frequent texting or playing with his
phone while driving, leading to many unnecessary deaths and is the reason most states consider
these distractions a crime. These drivers are worried about something somewhere in the wild blue
yonder instead of having their eyes glued to the situation in front of them! The definition of a
distracted driver is often an individual who is constantly fooling around with something. Therefore,
you can see why this category frightens me the

Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman
Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to
revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are
the ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor
Woman depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and
atmosphere help provide this claim.
Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden
meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if
you pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story.
In the third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you
were to change music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear
and anguish they are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female
characters as a way to contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had
beans (Stanza 4). Little descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to
her and being grateful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of similes was a major part of Army of Music such as like stone walls full of holes
(Stanza 2) and like a doorknob locked to song (Stanza 6). The first simile depicts how these
innocent people were put up against a wall and shot; the second simile depicts how the families
of the soldiers who have given their lives have suffered. Rich Woman Poor Woman uses literal
imagery to drive their point with imagery like There were planes overhead and guns firing close
(Stanza 8) and they stripped us of our dignity we had gained and then they raped us (Stanza 10).
Both these literal images show what happened to these people and how they were

Analysis Of Kingdom Of Heaven
Regardless of how one feels about Kingdom of Heaven in terms of its quality, the film undoubtedly
takes a unique approach in its portrayal of the crusades. Although some critics have bemoaned the
film for its historical inaccuracies and the way in which it presents Islam, such detractors are
excessively dogmatic in their baseless scrutiny. In addition to their assessment of Kingdom of
Heavenbeing unfounded, they fail to understand one of the broader notions expressed, which is the
view that morality is not black and white: individuals are capable of doing both good and evil. This
key theme shown throughout the movie is especially compelling since it not only applies to the
Crusadesbut also to the modern world.
Throughout the movie, the director, Ridley Scott, emphasizes the complex moral landscape of the
Crusades to enhance the quality of the story. As best put by Peter Stanford in his review, Kingdom
of Heaven is, however, no run of the mill variation on the popular theme of the historical thriller...
Instead, Scott has directed a complex modern morality play (Stanford, Screen god ). One way he
blurs the moral lines is the way in which he presents the force invading Jerusalem. Scott could have
taken the easy route and made the Muslim invaders the stereotypical evil villains of the film.
Instead, he presents the audience with a more nuanced view; even though the Muslim leader,
Saladin, does try to violently conquer the city of Jerusalem, he is also merciful. He sends

Gallstones
Cholecystitis
Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder. Inflammation usually forms when a gallstone
blocks the cystic duct that transports bile. Cholecystitis is the most common problem resulting
from gallbladder stones (90% of the cases). Cholecystitis affects women more often than men
and is more likely to occur after age 40. People who have a history of gallstones are at increased
risk for cholecystitis. Cholecystitis has an increased prevalence among people of Scandinavian
descent, Pima Indians, and Hispanic populations. It affected 20 million people with a mortality
record of 1,092 deaths in 2004. Hospitalizations total up 622,000 in the same year and over 700,000

Pain can last anywhere between several minutes to several hours. Warning signs are abdominal
pain so intense that you can t sit still or find a comfortable position, yellowing of your skin and the
whites of your eyes, clay colored stool and high fever with chills. Complications that can occur from
gallstones if left untreated are inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis), blockage of
pancreatic duct (gallstone pancreatitis), rupturing of the gallbladder, peritonitis, liver damage,
cirrhosis and gallbladder cancer.
When gallstones are suspected to be the cause of symptoms, the doctor is likely to do an
ultrasound exam or CT Scan, the most sensitive and specific test for gallstones. Other exams that
may be performed are a Cholescintigraphy a.k.a. HIDA (hepatobiliary iminodiactec acid) Scan,
ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), and blood tests.Treatments include
Surgery and medications to dissolve the gallstones. Nearly all cholecystectomies are performed
with laparoscopy. If tests show the gallbladder has severe inflammation, infection, or scarring from
other operations, the surgeon may perform open surgery to remove the gallbladder. In some cases,
open surgery is planned; however, sometimes these problems are discovered during the laparoscopy
and the surgeon must make a larger incision. If gallstones

A Comparison Of Superman And Wonder Woman
I am enjoying this discussion about Wonder Woman, even though I am not a huge fan of DC
Comics or superhero films. However, I love Superman and Wonder Woman films and television
series from the 80 s. Remember the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves and the
Wonder Woman television series from the 80s (I grew up in the 80s)? Since we are speaking
about films based on classic childhood favorites, I have another example to add: Goonies. A
group of five boys (the Goonies) live in a town scheduled for demolition but this clique refuses to
give up without a fight. When these Goonies discover One eyed Willie s hidden treasure map they
depart from their normal life to hunt his treasure in hopes of being able to save their parent s
homes. Now,

Silence Of The Lambs Gender
Jonathan Demme s 1991 blockbuster, The Silence of the Lambs commanded movie theatres,

My Experience In My First Day Of College
It was a warm and sunny day, I was able to sleep until eleven o clock in the mooring. I woke up
got dressed and attended my first college class. Walking across campus, I saw familiar faces
from freshman orientation back in June. I felt comfortable starting my first day of college. I
told myself that this was a new chapter in my life, and I wanted to make something special of it.
I wanted to make a difference. My number one goal was to get myself known. I made so many
friends by just simply making small talk. I know so many faces on campus and I can not wait to
see what the future has in store for me. My personal involvement at Adelphi is the reason why I
have made so many friends here at Adelphi. Starting back in June at Freshman Orientation, I got
involved. I took it upon myself to break the ice within my group. Others were really shy, but I
wanted to include everyone and make my three day experience worth it. Coming back in August
was exciting, I got to meet even more people. Meeting people from all different parts on New
York, America, and the world. I think it is so cool that my neighbors are from Japan. They even
gave me some Japanese snacks. The first week at Adelphi was stressful. I really was not used to
living away from home and I got home sick. After going home the first weekend, I cam back
stronger than ever. My email box was flooding with emails from Adelphi. Emails about getting
involved, joining clubs, and events. I attended Caliber which is an awesome club

The Importance Of Workplace Diversity
Workplace diversity is when there is diverse culture of individuals in the workplace. It is when
there is a value placed on the variety of ideas, race, ethnicities, religion, gender, sexuality and
orientation, which is flourishing in an environment. Depending on your employer and workplace,
workplace diversitycan vary based off several different factors. Usually, there is a preferential
standpoint taken on the matter and it can be either display a high or a low context cultureof
diversity. According to Mason (2013) Workforce diversity has been described as a double edged
sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes (p.659). Workplace diversity is
important in a business setting because it carries forward a combination of different types of
people to worktogether in unity, encourages uniqueness, innovative, creative approaches, and
supports interesting divergent ideas to accomplish tasks or goals.
Benefits of a high workplace diversity environment is it not being stuck to conformity in group
thinking, or being narrow minded with similar thoughts and having preference to only be around
people who think like you do which is known as the diversity paradox . According to a quote
stated from Friedrich Nietzsche, Hackett (2014) The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct
him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently (p. 415).
Instead, it reiterates the importance of having a diverse workplace because it constructs better
ideas, coming from different minds, and build upon each other through brainstorming. However, a
poor workplace diversity can also adversely affect one s motivation, which leads to overall job
dissatisfaction and demotivation. When there is poor workplace diversity, you can see less
communication barriers and cultural resistance, but it also makes it harder for individuals to get
used to working with others that aren t the same as them. This can become a form of adversity for
businesses if their employees cannot develop a strong skill set to adapt with not only coworkers but
also customers in the environment. Therefore, better communication and interaction skills are
essential to promoting a business and making it successful.

Kingdom Of Benin Essay
Unusually for a European country the Portuguese, the first nation to reach Benin s shores, were
not interested in colonising the Kingdom of Benin, wishing instead to establish trade links with
the Oba (the title of the reigning monarch) trading opulent items and firearms for pepper, ivory
and palm oil. Portugal only had a small population and the idea of an overseas empire was not a
popular one. The European visitors were willingly enmeshed into the folklore regarding Olokun,
god of the sea and earthly wealth, as they had travelled over the sea to get to the west coast of Africa
. The Portuguese were impressed with the well organised and highly civilised urban centre similar

Modern versions of these weapons were used by the Edo and Yoruba in their stand against the
Imperial British power which resulted in the British launching a punitive expedition against Benin
in 1897. British officials (Vice Consul James Robert Phillips and Captain Gallwey) pushed for the
annexation of the territory, this resulted in the massacre of the British army presence there, which
in turn resulted in the destruction of Benin in 1897, led by Rear Admiral Harry

McTeague or Animalism Essay
McTeague, or Animalism Unpublished
The last decade of the twentieth century in America saw a rise in programs for human s self
betterment. A popular form of betterment is that of the inner animal. Interest in Native American
animal mysticism, vision quests, and totem animals have increased dramatically in the past few
years. No forms of media have been spared; Calvin Klein s supermodels come on during sitcom
commercials to tell viewers they need to be a beast, or to get in touch with their animal within. In
the last decade of the nineteenth century, however, animalism was viewed not as a method of self
improvement but as the reprehensible side of humanity that lingered beneath the surface, waiting

Then, as his financial life begins to slide downhill, McTeague begins the physical abuse. A slap
here, a punch there, until the boxing of ears is a commonplace occurrence. McTeague acts like a
grizzly bear keeping its mate from wandering to far. Even this doesn t please his sadistic nature.
McTeague begins to drink, and his alcohol sodden brain allows the beast to take full control. He
begins biting Trina s fingers. Although the skin is not usually broken by his chomps, her fingers are
bruised to the point where she finds work difficult if not incapacitating. Eventually, McTeague does
begin to break her flesh with his teeth, and the paint that she works with poisons her fingers,
requiring amputation. Mutilated and finally crushed, Trina leaves McTeague, causing the beast to
take full control of the fallen man.
McTeague s pact with nature is sealed when he kills Trina in the coatroom of a school. When he
flees, he relies on his animal instincts to keep him alive. Like a deer chased by a wolf, McTeague
manages to elude his pursuers until they trap him in Death Valley. The hunting pack then closes in,
and McTeague joins the hunters in a blood soaked death.
Trina is as much an animal as her husband. She is initially repelled by the dentist s brutish nature,
but as soon as he casts his dominating spell on him, her masochistic animal nature awakens. She
experiences sexual arousal from McTeague s

The Gift Of Fear Essay
Intro:
The Gift of Fear was a great book and I would like to review it. First off, The Gift of Fear is old, but
is a great book to this day. Although it was pretty good, it had some major flaws and had some run
on sentences. It sometimes felt like it dragged on and there were some chapters that it really did not
need in it...
Brief Summary of Book:
The book was long, interesting, and had a fascinating style of voice. It taught me many life
lessons like how to stay out of fights and not start them. The book impacted me in a very big way.
Because of this book, I changed my day to day behaviour. I thought that there were some
unnecessary pages and chapters but, overall, it was great. Here are some survival signals, JACA

Fahrenheit 451 Should Be Banned
Within the last couple of decades, schools have been banning books due to the reoccurring
problems in modern day time, like profanity. Use of language should not limit what a student can

being banned because of disputatious issues. The story of a protagonist who finds joy in his job as
a fireman, setting fire to illegally owned books and their owners homes. However, the fireman soon
starts to question the value of his job and his life. Throughout the book, characters are left to deal

Polyethylene Research Paper
Around 150 years ago, there was no such thing as plastic or any synthetic materials that were
widely used. The invention of plastic gave us the ability to produce materials that cannot be made
from natural substances alone. At first the benefit of creating synthetic materials was greatly
overlooked for many years, but over time the benefits became more evident. Polyethylene s first
discovery was actually made on accident. In 1899, Hans von Pechmann discovered polyethylene at
the bottom of a test tube in his laboratory (Sharp 18). He was convinced that this chemical was a
waste product that could be found after chemical reactions had taken place. Making this

In fact the 1950 s and 1960 s showed a time of great expansion for the uses of plastic materials. So
much so that in 1976, plastic surpassed steel in becoming the most widely used material (Greer
A.25.). With the major technological advancements that occurred around this time in the 1970
s, many technological products today now contain polyethylene or other plastic materials. Some
examples of current technological products that are composed of polyethylene include DVDs,
computer and video games and CDs (Bell 17). It has been proven that the use of polyethylene in
these products has also increased the audio and video capabilities of these products greatly (Bell

polyethylene and this material makes the CD less likely to wear down over time (Bell 17). Our

which also means for sickle cell patients sickling can happen almost anywhere in their entire body.

In all cultures and across all times, anxiety and fear have been significant factors in the lives of

The term bureaucracy means to rule by desks or offices. Bureaucrats implement government policy
by putting laws and decisions made by elected individuals into action. Over time, many different

when the definition of disabilityneeds to be defined by the government, because of the laws and

to look at the history of disability and the several models one can use to analyze it, as it decided
the fate of several people across the United States. Through historical, medical, and bureaucratic
contexts, it can be seen how far the disabilities movement has come within law, and where it is
heading in the future. The beginning of disability being encoded into law started with the Civil
War. This first started with the making of the Civil War draft, which was brought about when
both the North and South needed to recruit men to fight in the war. The draft was made first by
creating a standard of normality, and an able bodied soldier was the model for this standard. This
later led to decisions that had to be made about who was able bodied and how it was defined.
Once the standard was created, men were evaluated compared to that standard, and were drafted if
they fit (Class notes 9/7). This impacted

President Pierce And The Former President
Karolina and Anna approached the banquet table as fine ladies sat at the table and older men were
milling around the room puffing on their cigars and discussing politics.
Close to the table where Karolina and Anna sat down, several men were standing in a semicircle
around a short older bald headed man with only slight wisps of white hair. The older man was the
former president. Franz Sigil managed to include himself along with Anna s husband in the circle of
men surrounding the former president.
Mr. President, will you be continuing to support President Pierce in his negotiations for the Kansas

declared and walked away putting his cigar out. The orchestra began to play a new waltz just
arrived from Europe and he walked back into the center of the ballroom as all of the men followed
the former president into the ballroom and rejoined their ladies at the banquet table.
Young ladies and gentlemen began to dance and swirl around the center of the ball room while
Karolina and her friend were approached by two distinguished ladies. They made their
introductions and inquired about Karolina, for they recognized Anna and her husband. They
observed Karolina s simple hairstyle and lack of jewelry. Anna proudly explained to them she was
a friend from the Grand Duchy of Baden and described the wedding of Princess Marie both
attended back in Mannheim. The two women were suitably impressed as Anna described the
members of royalty they had seen. After they left, Anna squeezed Karolina s hand and mouthed the
words Thank you to her as other women slowly came up to both them.
Karolina turned her attention back to the orchestra playing in the room as Anna repeated her story
to more and more of New York Citys Society women. She recognized the music being played and

Saginaw Police Investigation
A Day in the Life of a Police Officer
For my ethnographic essay I chose to study the life of police officers who work in the City of
Saginaw. Today s society is consumed by false statements and false social media articles. There are
thousands of articles, television commercials, and websites about police brutality, race problems,
and rarely seeing anything good about police officers. Lately it seems as though society is more
concerned about police brutality than actual positive affects police officers have on society. With
all of the things you hear on social media, and fake Facebook articles there are many different
things that need to be taken into consideration. What are the positive affects police officers have on

One of the things that viewers think the movie lacks is nudity. Those who follow the books
believe that, aside from romance, nudity is essential to the plots. When it comes to the movie

The complete athlete: A comparative essay of ice hockey and football. Playing sports and
watching sports is a common American pastime. Many hours of young Americans are spend
playing sports. Two of these common sports are football and ice hockey. It is the desire of all
young athletes to reach the NFL (National Football League) or the NHL (National Hockey League)
in their sport. Football is played on a hundred yard field in four quarters of 15 minutes each,
totaling 60 minutes of play. Each football team has eleven players on the field at a time, these
players play different positions on the field. NFL team play sixteen games in a season during a
seventeen week season. Ice hockeyis played on a two hundred foot ice rink. Each team has six
players on the ice including a goalie. Ice hockey is played for three twenty minute periods. NHL
teams play eighty two games in a season. While Football and Ice Hockey are similar that both
games last sixty minutes they differ greatly in the number of players playing and the physical
attributes of the players.
Both sporting events last sixty minutes but differ in the amount of time each player spends on
the playing surface. Hockey is played on ice that is three quarters of an inch think. Sometimes it
is thicker ice, but thicker ice slows the players skating. On the ice are six players, one of which is a

Western Imperialism In Japan
The Transformation of Imperialism in Japan (Imperialism; kominka, moe, 100 Year War )
Imperialism is a system of extending a country s power and influence to other countries, normally
through colonization and use of military force. Imperialism had spread to Japan from the West in
the 19th century. In the Bakumatsu period, Western imperialism spread to Japan, and the Western
nations forced Bakufu to open the country by advanced military and weapons. It was the beginning
of the Japanese government fought against Western imperialism. Later, in the Meiji period, the
Meiji government established the Meiji Restoration to build a strong economy and military, which

Majority of people benefited from the reforms set in place by Napoleon, this is due to the fact
that under his law everyone was applicable for the same punishment is they did the same crime as
someone in the lower classes, however those that were left out of Napoleon s new fair laws were
sadly, women
The rights that women gained throughout the French Revolution began fading with Napoleon s
attitude towards women was shown through his social policies
They had to follow their husband s orders and they couldn t make legal contracts, even divorce
became more circumstantial for women than for men
These acts agreed with other European Leaders which made it, at the time of course, ok to do
Besides radical revolutionaries not many supported women s rights, most believed in the rule of the
husband being appropriate in a traditional family structure (said to be the foundation of society)
They had less rights with Napoleon but the same as everyone else in Europe
Economic
Napoleon tried to address France s financial problems, even the revolutionary governments saw how
the awful system for taxing led to such great economic problems

My Best Experience
1,826 Days I met my best friends five years ago. A lot can happen in five years. There are 1,826
days in five years. That means that over that span of time, the world presents 1,826 fresh starts,
each one containing a new experience. Every experience brings its own array of emotions. You
can learn a lot about someone by the way that they react to new experiences. My friends and I
have had our fair share of new experiences together. We shared our experiences of our first day in
high school together, our first homecoming, having the freedom to drive, our first relationship,
our first heartbreak, family issues, even our first periods. Each one was terrifying and
exhilarating, and each one presented its own set of challenges. What color dress should we get?
Do you think we have enough gas to get there? Should we believe him when he says it will only
hurt a little? Was everything else he said just a lie? Why does dad sleep on the couch now? How
are we going to make it through the day with these cramps? Every one of these questions we had
to answer our selves with nothing but the help of each other. We never found out the right answers,
and to this day we still don t know the right answers. We probably never will. Although there
probably is no right answer to any of the questions that life presents us, searching for the answer has
not only brought us closer together than ever, it has also taught us things about ourselves and each
other that we may have never discovered. Since the

as well as create social services that cater to immigrant and newcomer needs, (Guo, 2008, p. 260).
Guo was referring to the success of an Chinese immigrant based organization called SUCCESS,

Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be.
Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities.
As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used
for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of
Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of
understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic
status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages
and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and
passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand
the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little
awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does
not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving
diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society
needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that
her audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts

GDP per capita. From $29,684.33 in 2004, Germany boosted their GDP per capita up to
$39,187.01 in 2011, which is approximately a 50% increase. This shows that Germany managed
to put its economy in an upward trend, although the Eurozone was struggling with its economic
growth, particularly during 2009 and 2010. Similarly, GNI per capita of Germany in 2004 was
$29,938.63, yet by 2011, the GNI per capita was $39,943.53. This again shows a positive trend
overall, which shows that Germany has been growing gradually as years passed with its economy.

Moreover, the fact that the government kept its stability of tax revenue even during 2009 and 2010
when Eurozone crisis occurred, shows that Germany s economic health was still relatively good
even when crisis occurred around Europe. We assume that the tax revenue in 2011 was about 37%,
seeing the overall trend of tax revenue. As mentioned before, this means that Germany has had a
stable economic health throughout the 7 years, considering the fact that the tax revenue has not
gone up or down by a great number. Current account balance of payments was positive value
throughout the 7 years, showing that the amount of exports from Germany exceeded the amount of
imports. That shows that country is making profit overall, by exporting and importing with other
countries, yet exporting great amount, enough to keep the country earning profits. Moreover, the
fact that the current account balance of payments went up from 4.6% to 5.7% shows that the
country managed to widen the difference between the amount of exports and imports even more, to
bring more profit into Germany. Germany did a fine job in keeping the unemployment rate low. In
fact, Germany managed to cut the unemployment rate by almost a half, from 10.5% in 2004, to
5.9% in 2011. This means that there are more jobs available in Germany now than in 2004.

Reactive Attachment
Development is an essential and mandatory constituent of human life that operates on multiple
levels. It is a precise process, and there are a number of factors that affect its effectiveness. In
particular, the development of a child is determinant of the adolescent behaviors, uniqueness and
intelligence. Therefore, a considerable degree of weight is placed on the components that lead to
the maturity of the child. In the development of a child, one of the key principles is called
attachment. Just as safe attachment between the caregiver and the child can result in successful
physical, mental and social development, vulnerable attachment can yield damaging consequences
for the child in these areas (DeMulder, Denham, Schmidt, Mitchell, 2000). Reactive attachment
disorder is a likely outcome of unsafe attachment that eventually restricts the child s capacity to
emotionally and socially connect with other individuals, while destroying the cognitive ability as
well (Crosson Tower, 2013). This paper presents a detailed discussion on the attachment disorder in
children and its impact on child development. Reactive Attachment Disorder The term attachment

aloof and socially and emotionally detached, shows resistance towards love and holds back the
emotions. Unrestrained reactive attachment disorder involves the child showing impartial
sociability and expressing more friendliness towards unknown persons than the primary care

The Importance Of Animal Communication
Ever since the scientific community came to the conclusion that animals can communicate, new
questions on the function of animal signals arouse. Scientists wondered whether when animals
communicate they do it in order to manipulate one another or to inform each other. Through
extensive research over the years, scientist continue to be divided; many believe that the function of
the animal signals is simply to manipulate while others believe that when animals communicate,
they do it in order to inform. In reality, both sides of the argument are correct as communication
without manipulation or information would be pointless.
One of the functions of animal communication is to inform. As Jack P. Hailman (2008) states,
Communication is fundamentally a stand for process for transferring information from a sender to
a receiver. Hailman uses this to propose that animals transfer information when they communicate.
Similarly Owings, D. H. and E. S Morton (1998) quote from Green and Marler (1979, p.73),
Communication consists of the transmission of information from one animal to another.
Information is encoded by one individual into a signal. When received by another animal, this
information undergoes decoding, while still retaining a specifiable relationship to the encoded
information. In their definition, Green and Marled include the undergoing of decoding to Shannon
s basic model of communication diagram which only mentions a sender sending a signal to a
receiver through a

A Study Area Is The Region Of The U.s. Lake
A study area is the region of the U.S. Lake States, including Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In
the region, about 27% of the estimated 20.8 million people reside in rural areas. Over 96% of the
lands are considered as rural areas. Traditionally, the region had economically dependent on natural
resource extraction and related low skill manufacturing industries (Hamilton et al., 2008). However,
such industries are recently weakened by globalization and rising policies on protection of natural
resources. Consequently, tourism based industries that depend on managed public lands not only
protecting natural resources, but also providing recreational opportunities have been considered as
important alternatives for local economic growth. Thus, an investigation of the relative impacts of
economic structures on income distributioncan broaden our understanding of the role of each
economic industry in the distributional aspects of gateway communities.
There is no definitive way to define the gateway communities. In this study, I partly follow a
method for Sphere of Influence of gateway communities suggested by the M3West study (Hester,
2013). He used a travel distance that is measured by predefined buffer distance for recreational
commuting from gateway communities to public lands. Thus, I first collect public land data (see
figure 1). Then, I use a sensitivity analysis to select an appropriate travel distance for recreational
commuting based on 5, 10, and 15 mile buffer. From

Essay on The Mental Health of Individuals in the LGBT...
The mental health of individuals in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered)
community is something that is a serious problem. For most of the history of the United States
and many different parts of the world LGBT people faced much persecution and in some cases
even death. This constant fear of discovery and the pressure that one feels on oneself when in
the closet can lead to major mental distress. Research has shown that people who identify as
LGBT are twice as likely to develop lifetime mood and anxiety disorders (Bostwick 468). This is
extremely noticeable the past couple years in the suicides of bullied teens on the basis of sexual
identity and expression. The stigma on simply being perceived as LGBT is strong enough to... Show

It is also worth noting that research into the mental health of the LGBT community is lacking
(then and now) and that discrimination is legal in many cases (Luckstead 3). Some of the ways
that discrimination is legal would be the banning of marriage rights in some states, the absence
of sexuality and sexual expression in the working on discrimination clauses around the nation,
the ability for a person to be fires or evicted simply because they are LGBT. All of these things
can cause stress in the life of members of the LGBT community and in te cause of stress you find
causes and additives to mental distress and illness. One could surmise that with the turning tide on
the issue of gay rights in the US that the mental health risk here is not work looking into. This
would be incorrect and the suicides of LGBT youth in the past couple years confirms this. The
causes of these mental illnesses can be attributed heavily to discrimination on almost all fronts. The
impact of institutional discrimination, that is discrimination that is passed through laws or
amendments in a state or federal level, has been shown. It had been shown that the prevalence of
mental illness is higher in states that do not provide protection from discrimination such as in the
work place and in marriage (the bans of the time of

The Carbon Of Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment
The Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment (CARVE) is a multi year mission
conducted by NASA to obtain detailed calculations of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon
dioxide and methane from thawing permafrost by probing deep into the frozen landscape of Alaska.
For the first time, NASA scientists have been accurately recording these emission sources and rates
using highly sensitive airborne sensors mounted on NASA government aircraft. NASA scientists
expect to make unprecedented accurate estimates of the extent of Arctic carbon cycling impacts to
the Arctic atmosphere and the local Alaskan ecology. The data results of this mission will help both
NASA and global scientists better understand how the estimated rate of greenhouse gasemissions
affect the rise in temperature and potential impact of Earth s future climate near and long term. The
CARVE mission goals intend to answer important questions about Earth climate change. Ultimately,
CARVE will provide an integrated set of data that will provide unprecedented experimental insights
into Arctic carbon cycling. Over the last several decades, climatologists have found that Arctic
regions, in particular, have been affected most ecologically, for overall global increased temperature
changes resulting from greenhouse gas emissions. Landscapes in the Arctic have change
dramatically over the last decade alone. As tundra has thawed earlier than seasonally normal, and

Plath s Effective Use of Characterization in The Initiation
Millicent faces conflict the entire story, whether it was internal or external. Conflict was necessary,
because it helps develop the characterization of Millicent and other characters in the story.
Characterization is necessary, because it portrays Millicent s feelings toward the initiation and the
character plot of other characters. Millicent is faced with a decision in the short story, whether to be
initiated or not. The use of character plot and theme play a role in the final decision that Millicent
makes. The author uses characterization and conflict effectively in the short story to create
character plot and theme. Characterization is effectively used to create character plot and portray
the theme of the story. This is effectively used by the author through Millicent s thoughts and
through the use of other characters. For instance, Millicent continually tells herself that what girl
wouldn t want to be elected like she was (Plath 240). She repeatedly tells herself ideas such as this,
because she is trying to convince herself that she is making the right choice. Another instance is
shown when Tracy tells Millicent that Millicent will change, whether she thinks she will or not
(240). Through the words Tracy states, Millicent realizes that she is lying to herself. Consequently,
through the earlier examples, the characterization of Millicent and other characters creates the

The Internal Revenue Service refers to an LLC with pass through income as a disregarded
entity; in other words, it is not recognized as an entity separate from its ownership. When it
comes to simple record keeping an LLC has fewer record keeping and reporting requirements
than a corporation or being a sole proprietorship. A sole proprietorship is the simplest and most
common structure chosen to start a business. It is an unincorporated business owned and run by
one individual with no distinction between the business and you, the owner. You are entitled to
all profits and are responsible for all your business s debts, losses and liabilities. You may,
however, be able to purchase liability insurance for your business that can help eliminate
tortious liability. You do not have to take any formal action to form a sole proprietorship. As

Abstract this paper is an involvement in the field of security study on mobile ad hoc networks.
Boundaries of the mobile ad hoc nodes have been considered in order to design a secure
Geographic routing protocol that thwarts selfish and flooding attacks. We took the base of Ad hoc
On Demand Routing Protocol (AODV); the most popular Routing protocol. The significance of the
proposed protocol that should make sure security as wanted by providing a broad architecture of
Secured PPEM Mechanism based Multi Hop Strong Path Geographic Routing protocol (SMHSP)
based on effective key management, secure neighbor detection, secure routing data s, finding
malicious nodes, and eliminating these nodes from routing table. Our results clearly show that our
secured Geographic routing protocol increases the throughput and packet delivery ratio while it has
a tolerable increase in the routing overhead and average delay. Also, security study proves in details
that the proposed protocol

The Transcontinental Railroad In The 19th Century
The Transcontinental railroad could be interpreted as the most memorable change in America in
the 19th century. The railroad played an important role in the westward expansion and on the
progression and development for the American economy. When America had acquired the West,
the need for adequate transportation rose considerably. Suggestions dispersed about a railroad that
would scope across the continent from East to West. Republican congresses ruled for the federal
funding of railroad construction, however, all actions were on a standstill for a few years because
of the Civil War. In the wake of the American Civil War
of 1861 1865, the rush to put together the
transcontinental railroad went underway in 1866. President Abraham Lincolnpermitted the Pacific
Railway Act of 1862, allowing two railroad companies the right to construct the first ever American
transcontinental railroad. While there are several industries, which have left an indelible mark on
California and may be more associated with California in the twentieth century, however no
industry has had a greater impact on the American development of... Show more content on

Instead, Californians in the 1850s and early 1860s focused on constructing short railways to
replace existing stage, wagon, and steamboat lines. Businessmen organized elaborate railroad
building ventures and advertised their towns as the future trade centers of the Pacific Coast. The
Sacramento Valley Railroad west of the Mississippi was the state s first operative railroad in 1856.
The railway was an instantaneous accomplishment, as it offered swift transport to the foothill
mines, and soar a brand new town at the end of the road. Although, the route that was initially
planned to go from Sacramento toward Marysville, abolished after 22 miles east into Folsom,

Cover Letter Reflection
Resume and Cover Letter Reflection Writing a resume and cover letter seems intuitively easy at
the first glance. Not much to it, just list all that s required, and you should be good to go. Yet this
assignment opened my eyes on how much detail can collude with results. When I started this
assignment, I listed everything as I thought it should be. But trouble to arise was when I read the
resume back to myself. One challenge I faced was to word things in an order, so they are short and
concise, yet descriptive enough to understand. Every time I thought I was being descriptive, it tends
out to be either too long or too confusing for anyone but myself to understand. there s a continuous
process of editing, re editing, and editing some more. There

Blue Baby Syndrome Case Analysis
To receive recognition, you must find a reasonable answer that can prove that the impossible can
be done. Before the heart surgery, it was the rule of law that you can not touch the heart since it
can ruin the flow of blood and it can cause a mortality rate. Doctor Blalock challenged this theory
with his partner Vivien Thomas and his colleagues working together to break this case. With both
Vivien s and Doctor Blalock s knowledge of the heart, they managed to cure the Blue Baby
Syndrome to prove to the other doctors that their theory can be proven. Vivien should have been
recognized also because he was the only black surgical technician that he actually contributed to the
cause. However, Doctor Blalock was receiving all of the fame and popularity

Analysis Of The Black Walnut Tree By Mary Oliver
The poem The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver, starts with a mothers and her young daughter
making a hard decision of how they will come up with the means to pay the mortgage. Since the
young girl s mother is looking for ways to pay their mortgage, it can be reasonably inferred that the
girls father has passed away. This mother has the option of selling a walnut treein her yard that
would cover her mortgage. The walnut tree in question is getting older and will not continue to be
fruitful for long. This tree could be the answer to this familys problems, but it holds sentimental
value. The walnut tree is not just a tree it stands for so much more. This tree is an adage to the
family s roots. Take the line that night I dreamed

Anemia Is Common Among Individuals With Human...
Anemia is common among individuals with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection [1].
In sub Saharan Africa, the prevalence of anemia is high people living with HIV are likely to be
malnourished, have low CD4 counts and have high rates of comorbidities such as tuberculosis and
malaria [2, 3] The presence of anemiapredicts poor clinical outcomes like death, clinical progression

person is on ART or not [4, 5, 6]. Those who recover from the anemia have better clinical

For example, anemia caused by HIV and drug toxicity from antiretrovirals and prophylaxis such as
zidovudine and cotrimoxazole is important in people on ART in contrast to the general population
and those who are ART naГЇve. Therefore the approach to addressing anemia between these
different groups should be different.
As HIV/AIDS programs across sub Saharan Africa are maturingв€’ more people are failing their
first line ART regimens and are requiring second line ART regimensв€’ the programs should have
strategies in place to improve survival and to reduce morbidity while on ART [12]. In one part,
these strategies should identify those people at a greater risk of anemia during treatment.
We studied a cohort of Malawians on second line ART to describe the prevalence of anemia and
identify those individuals at risk of having anemia by assessing the prevalence, type and factors
associated with anemia in an ART experienced population that had switched to second line ART
following prior use of first line ART.

Influence Of Globalisation On Western Culture
Globalisation is the process of interaction and integration among people, companies and
governments of different nations . This subsequent process has led to the erosion of cultural
diversity and language, whereby Western culture and ideals have extinguished other beliefs and
practices, ingraining the idea that western is best and other ways of living are immoral or
unethical. This wide scale homogenisation has allowed extremist groups such as ISIS to take
advantage of the impressionable or naГЇve, as well as encouraging hazardous global ties and
bigotry within the global community.
Due to the globalised world we live in, western culture and ideals have begun to erode and
homogenise cultural diversity and language. Applications such as Emoji have allowed people from
vast corners of the word to communicate, despite not sharing a common language. Although this
seems as it is a positive thing, it wasn t until last year when Apple introduced cultural diversity
(such as the inclusion of a spectrum of skin colours, and cultural symbols). This is immensely
detrimental to those who are not represented, as it inadvertently shows them that who they are and
what they believe is not as important or valued in the western world. But even with this new
apparent cultural acceptance, Apple has shown with Emoji s, that western ideals are still very much
interlaced in the application. In the travel and places section, the only non western landmark
pictured is a singular mosque. This

Teen Drinking Essay
The average American begins drinking at 15 years old, despite the fact that the legal drinking
age in the United States is 21 years old. Underage alcohol use is more likely to kill young people
than all illicit drugs combined. I believe that raising the drinking age to 25 years old can save
many young lives.
Affects of Adolescent Drinking Adolescent drinking affects a child s mind, body and future.
Adolescence is the between childhood and adulthood. During this time alcohol use may interrupt
brain development. Hippocampus, the part of the brain important forfvb fg learning and memory
has been proven to be smaller in people that have started drinking in a young age. In a recent study

The condition, delirium tremens, known primarily to heavy drinkers, causes hallucinations along
with loss of control of muscular functioning. When this condition develops and the alcoholic slows
their drinking, withdrawal syndrome can and usually does. This may include agitation, tremors,
seizures, and hallucinations.
Social Consequences Car crashes are the leading cause of death among youth ages 15 to 20
years old. Adolescents already are at a high risk being inexperienced drivers. Drivers younger
that 21 are more likely to have alcohol induced impairment of driving skills than older drivers.
The rate of fatal crashes among alcohol involved drivers between 16 23 is more than twice the
rate for alcohol involved drivers 24 and older. Sexual assault, including rape, occurs mostly with
women in late in late teens and early twenties, usually with a date. In a survey, approximately 10
percent of female high school students reported having been raped. Research suggests that alcohol
use by the offender, the victim, or both, increases the likelihood of sexual assault by a male.
Adolescent alcohol use with highВ–risk sex (having multiple sexual partners and not using any
condoms) produces serious outcome. The consequences of highВ–risk sex also are common in this
age group, particularly unwanted pregnancy and

Unfortunately I ve noticed that it often requires the Bluetooth device to be reconnected manually
by tapping the device s name again after the device has been turned off for a while.
18. Using the Camera Download PicShop Lite Photo Editor from the Amazon appstore (it s free,
or you can upgrade to the paid version). Open the app, hit the icon in the lower left, then choose
Camera . Like the Google Nexus 7, the Kindle Fire HD has a front facing camera but they
neglected to give users a way to access it since they only intended it to be used for video chat.
Update: see this post for a better way to access the hidden camera, which includes a video
recording and panoramic option too.
19. Install Adobe Flash Player on Kindle Fire HD Amazon isn t supporting Adobe Flash on their
tablets anymore but that doesn t mean Flash doesn t work. All you need to do to get Flash on
the Kindle Fire HD is download a web browser from an alternate appstore (#15) and the Flash
Player app below. I m successfully using the Dolphin web browser(version 8.8.1) and this version
of Flash Player.
20. File Manager The Kindle Fire doesn t come with any file management software, which can
make things a lot easier if you need to move files or access folders you can t normally get access to.
My favorite is ES File Explorer, and it s free in the Amazon appstore. Highly recommended.

Fluoride Conspiracy By Laurie Higgs
Fluoride has been used by people for many decades. The most common use is in toothpaste.
Fluoride was added to toothpaste to lower the amount of dental cavities that one gets, and works
by protecting the enamel (outer hard layer over the tooth). Another use of fluoride is in drinking
water. It was added to drinking water to also help with tooth decay. Many people are debating
whether or not this is truly safe. In the essay, The FluorideConspiracy , by Laurie Higgs, she talks
about the use of fluoride drinking waters and dangers it brings by using logos, pathos, and ethos.
Higgs explains in her essay that the use of fluoride has been used in water for some time now
and that it is used to help prevent tooth decay as stated in her citations. She further explains that
when brushing ones teeth and swallows an x amount of toothpaste that that one should called
poison control, so why would one be able to drink it? About sixty percent of homes contain
fluoride added water and an average person is suppose to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water
each day, while the amount of fluoride in each glass contains more than twice the amount (to be
consumed) of fluoride allowed in toothpaste (Higgs par.2), and if one had too much... Show more

In the essay it states that fluoride in water is a dangerous poison and toxic (Higgs para.3). She
uses these words to explain the effects of fluoride and creates the reader to have fear. She also uses
appeals to pathos by explaining that by drinking the water one can increase hypothyroidism.
Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. The essay
says that hypothyroidism can lead to depression, fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pains,
increased cholesterol levels and heart disease (as qtd. in Higgs par.5). The author uses human
health and the problems that can arise from drinking water with fluoride to evoke the readers

Should Community College Should Be Free
Should Community College be Free? In the article, As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama s
Free Community College Idea written by Joanne Jacobs, the author states the different arguments
between whether or not Obama s idea of making community college free is a good idea for both the
institutions and for the students planning on attending. This can then lead to colleges not getting
any funding because they won t be getting any money, tuition wise, from the students but rather the
government. Although the idea of free community collegeis what everyone believes is the best
option, I think it shouldn t be free because tuition for low income students is technically already
free, four year universities cost much more, and lastly because this can then lead to competition
between low income students and upper middle class students. Many Americans today believe
that if you are in the lower class, you won t be capable of attending college and will end up just
working tedious jobs your whole life with no college education. Many don t know if one falls
into the category of a low income student, they are eligible to apply to all the financial help
colleges provide in order to go to college for free. They don t need it written, by law that
community collegemust be free. According to College Board, tuition at community colleges
averages $3,347 per year, and many students are eligible to receive around $6,000 per year in Pell
Grants provided from FAFSA or even the Dream Act. This

The Open Window Analysis
In the story The Open Window, Vera is a very odd child. What she does to Mr. Nuttel is very
rude but cunning. The fib she tells in the beginning of the story is believable to the reader and
Framton Nuttel. Vera is a very smart girl and uses this skill to her advantage. But, she did not
end up this way. From her childhood to her teenage years, Vera was always used for something
her older cousins did not want to do. So she taught herself well and now used it on Mr. Nuttel.
Now you may be asking yourselves, What did her older cousins make her do to become so
smart? Well, in the next three paragraphs, I am going to go back in time to Vera s adolescent
years and tell you. The first story is back when Vera was just 5 years of age. One of the boys had
decided to play a little trick on her. There is a horrid beast underneath the house and my mother
wants to get it out . She was terrified and told him to do it himself but he said, I am too large to
fit through the little opening Vera, just do it! . So she gathered up all her courage and crawled
her way through the opening. It was very dark and damp under there. There were cobwebs
galore and she could here the soft squeaks of mice and just a slight drip of water every so often.
She gulped and let out a shaky breath and continued crawling. All of the sudden, her older cousin
says, When you find the beast put it in this bag and carry it out . Then he throws the bag in and
shuts the opening. Vera suddenly realized there was no

  • 2. Identify Different Types Of Drivers Types of Automobile Drivers Paula Alexandra, an American actress, once said, The cars we drive say a lot about us. People often choose their automobiles for many different reasons. An affordable car might be the attraction. Many people spend as much money on a car as they might a home because style and statement means much to them. Others might select a car based on the comfort of the ride. This often is the case with more mature drivers. The way we choose to get from one place to the next shows our priorities and what is important to us. But along with the type of car we drive, there is something else that clearly says a lot about a person the way they drive their vehicle. Over a period, habits are developed by drivers and these patterns set in like cement. Drivers come in a various assortment. Most automobiledrivers can be classified into one of the following categories: the high speedster driver, the cautious defensive driver, and the reckless distracted driver, who petrifies me the most. The high speedster driver is seen zooming down the road at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These types of driver tend to somehow allow everything to wander through their inconsiderate mind. One example of this dangerous driver tendencies is his frequent texting or playing with his phone while driving, leading to many unnecessary deaths and is the reason most states consider these distractions a crime. These drivers are worried about something somewhere in the wild blue yonder instead of having their eyes glued to the situation in front of them! The definition of a distracted driver is often an individual who is constantly fooling around with something. Therefore, you can see why this category frightens me the ... • 3. Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are the ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor Woman depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and atmosphere help provide this claim. Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if you pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story. In the third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you were to change music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear and anguish they are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female characters as a way to contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had beans (Stanza 4). Little descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to her and being grateful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of similes was a major part of Army of Music such as like stone walls full of holes (Stanza 2) and like a doorknob locked to song (Stanza 6). The first simile depicts how these innocent people were put up against a wall and shot; the second simile depicts how the families of the soldiers who have given their lives have suffered. Rich Woman Poor Woman uses literal imagery to drive their point with imagery like There were planes overhead and guns firing close (Stanza 8) and they stripped us of our dignity we had gained and then they raped us (Stanza 10). Both these literal images show what happened to these people and how they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Kingdom Of Heaven Regardless of how one feels about Kingdom of Heaven in terms of its quality, the film undoubtedly takes a unique approach in its portrayal of the crusades. Although some critics have bemoaned the film for its historical inaccuracies and the way in which it presents Islam, such detractors are excessively dogmatic in their baseless scrutiny. In addition to their assessment of Kingdom of Heavenbeing unfounded, they fail to understand one of the broader notions expressed, which is the view that morality is not black and white: individuals are capable of doing both good and evil. This key theme shown throughout the movie is especially compelling since it not only applies to the Crusadesbut also to the modern world. Throughout the movie, the director, Ridley Scott, emphasizes the complex moral landscape of the Crusades to enhance the quality of the story. As best put by Peter Stanford in his review, Kingdom of Heaven is, however, no run of the mill variation on the popular theme of the historical thriller... Instead, Scott has directed a complex modern morality play (Stanford, Screen god ). One way he blurs the moral lines is the way in which he presents the force invading Jerusalem. Scott could have taken the easy route and made the Muslim invaders the stereotypical evil villains of the film. Instead, he presents the audience with a more nuanced view; even though the Muslim leader, Saladin, does try to violently conquer the city of Jerusalem, he is also merciful. He sends ... Cholecystitis is the most common problem resulting from gallbladder stones (90% of the cases). Cholecystitis affects women more often than men and is more likely to occur after age 40. People who have a history of gallstones are at increased risk for cholecystitis. Cholecystitis has an increased prevalence among people of Scandinavian descent, Pima Indians, and Hispanic populations. It affected 20 million people with a mortality record of 1,092 deaths in 2004. Pain can last anywhere between several minutes to several hours. • 6. A Comparison Of Superman And Wonder Woman I am enjoying this discussion about Wonder Woman, even though I am not a huge fan of DC Comics or superhero films. However, I love Superman and Wonder Woman films and television series from the 80 s. Remember the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves and the Wonder Woman television series from the 80s (I grew up in the 80s)? Since we are speaking about films based on classic childhood favorites, I have another example to add: Goonies. A group of five boys (the Goonies) live in a town scheduled for demolition but this clique refuses to give up without a fight. When these Goonies discover One eyed Willie s hidden treasure map they depart from their normal life to hunt his treasure in hopes of being able to save their parent s homes. Now, ... The horror narrative unstitches at the complex notions of gender and sexuality with skin becoming the signpost for these topics. Skin ... becomes a kind of metonym for the human and its colour, its pallor, its shape mean everything within a semiotic of monstrosity. (Halberstam, 1995, p6) The Silence of the Lambs is a tale of the young, female, FBI agent Clarice Starling who seeks the help of the imprisoned cannibalistic killer, Dr Hannibal Lecter to help infiltrate the hide killer known as Buffalo Bill , who kidnaps women in the aim to flay their skin in the hope to tailor their skins into ... • 8. My Experience In My First Day Of College It was a warm and sunny day, I was able to sleep until eleven o clock in the mooring. I woke up got dressed and attended my first college class. Walking across campus, I saw familiar faces from freshman orientation back in June. I felt comfortable starting my first day of college. I told myself that this was a new chapter in my life, and I wanted to make something special of it. I wanted to make a difference. My number one goal was to get myself known. I made so many friends by just simply making small talk. I know so many faces on campus and I can not wait to see what the future has in store for me. My personal involvement at Adelphi is the reason why I have made so many friends here at Adelphi. Starting back in June at Freshman Orientation, I got involved. I took it upon myself to break the ice within my group. Others were really shy, but I wanted to include everyone and make my three day experience worth it. Coming back in August was exciting, I got to meet even more people. Meeting people from all different parts on New York, America, and the world. I think it is so cool that my neighbors are from Japan. They even gave me some Japanese snacks. The first week at Adelphi was stressful. I really was not used to living away from home and I got home sick. After going home the first weekend, I cam back stronger than ever. My email box was flooding with emails from Adelphi. Emails about getting involved, joining clubs, and events. I attended Caliber which is an awesome club ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Workplace Diversity Workplace diversity is when there is diverse culture of individuals in the workplace. It is when there is a value placed on the variety of ideas, race, ethnicities, religion, gender, sexuality and orientation, which is flourishing in an environment. Depending on your employer and workplace, workplace diversitycan vary based off several different factors. Usually, there is a preferential standpoint taken on the matter and it can be either display a high or a low context cultureof diversity. According to Mason (2013) Workforce diversity has been described as a double edged sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes (p.659). Workplace diversity is important in a business setting because it carries forward a combination of different types of people to worktogether in unity, encourages uniqueness, innovative, creative approaches, and supports interesting divergent ideas to accomplish tasks or goals. Benefits of a high workplace diversity environment is it not being stuck to conformity in group thinking, or being narrow minded with similar thoughts and having preference to only be around people who think like you do which is known as the diversity paradox . According to a quote stated from Friedrich Nietzsche, Hackett (2014) The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently (p. 415). Instead, it reiterates the importance of having a diverse workplace because it constructs better ideas, coming from different minds, and build upon each other through brainstorming. However, a poor workplace diversity can also adversely affect one s motivation, which leads to overall job dissatisfaction and demotivation. When there is poor workplace diversity, you can see less communication barriers and cultural resistance, but it also makes it harder for individuals to get used to working with others that aren t the same as them. This can become a form of adversity for businesses if their employees cannot develop a strong skill set to adapt with not only coworkers but also customers in the environment. Therefore, better communication and interaction skills are essential to promoting a business and making it successful. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Kingdom Of Benin Essay Unusually for a European country the Portuguese, the first nation to reach Benin s shores, were not interested in colonising the Kingdom of Benin, wishing instead to establish trade links with the Oba (the title of the reigning monarch) trading opulent items and firearms for pepper, ivory and palm oil. Portugal only had a small population and the idea of an overseas empire was not a popular one. The European visitors were willingly enmeshed into the folklore regarding Olokun, god of the sea and earthly wealth, as they had travelled over the sea to get to the west coast of Africa . A popular form of betterment is that of the inner animal. Interest in Native American animal mysticism, vision quests, and totem animals have increased dramatically in the past few years. No forms of media have been spared; Calvin Klein s supermodels come on during sitcom commercials to tell viewers they need to be a beast, or to get in touch with their animal within. A slap here, a punch there, until the boxing of ears is a commonplace occurrence. McTeague acts like a grizzly bear keeping its mate from wandering to far. Even this doesn t please his sadistic nature. McTeague begins to drink, and his alcohol sodden brain allows the beast to take full control. He begins biting Trina s fingers. Although the skin is not usually broken by his chomps, her fingers are bruised to the point where she finds work difficult if not incapacitating. Eventually, McTeague does begin to break her flesh with his teeth, and the paint that she works with poisons her fingers, requiring amputation. Mutilated and finally crushed, Trina leaves McTeague, causing the beast to take full control of the fallen man. McTeague s pact with nature is sealed when he kills Trina in the coatroom of a school. When he flees, he relies on his animal instincts to keep him alive. Like a deer chased by a wolf, McTeague manages to elude his pursuers until they trap him in Death Valley. The hunting pack then closes in, and McTeague joins the hunters in a blood soaked death. Trina is as much an animal as her husband. Bureaucrats implement government policy by putting laws and decisions made by elected individuals into action. Over time, many different people have defined the concept of disability in many different ways. This becomes a major issue when the definition of disabilityneeds to be defined by the government, because of the laws and decisions the government makes based off of it. Something like the concept of disability being defined in a certain way affects the policies that the bureaucracies implement, so it is important to look at the history of disability and the several models one can use to analyze it, as it decided the fate of several people across the United States. Through historical, medical, and bureaucratic contexts, it can be seen how far the disabilities movement has come within law, and where it is heading in the future. The beginning of disability being encoded into law started with the Civil War. This first started with the making of the Civil War draft, which was brought about when both the North and South needed to recruit men to fight in the war. The draft was made first by creating a standard of normality, and an able bodied soldier was the model for this standard. This later led to decisions that had to be made about who was able bodied and how it was defined. Once the standard was created, men were evaluated compared to that standard, and were drafted if they fit (Class notes 9/7). This impacted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, a considerable degree of weight is placed on the components that lead to the maturity of the child. In the development of a child, one of the key principles is called attachment. Just as safe attachment between the caregiver and the child can result in successful physical, mental and social development, vulnerable attachment can yield damaging consequences for the child in these areas (DeMulder, Denham, Schmidt, Mitchell, 2000). Reactive attachment disorder is a likely outcome of unsafe attachment that eventually restricts the child s capacity to emotionally and socially connect with other individuals, while destroying the cognitive ability as well (Crosson Tower, 2013). This paper presents a detailed discussion on the attachment disorder in children and its impact on child development. Reactive Attachment Disorder The term attachment refers to the... • 33. The Importance Of Animal Communication Ever since the scientific community came to the conclusion that animals can communicate, new questions on the function of animal signals arouse. Scientists wondered whether when animals communicate they do it in order to manipulate one another or to inform each other. Through extensive research over the years, scientist continue to be divided; many believe that the function of the animal signals is simply to manipulate while others believe that when animals communicate, they do it in order to inform. In reality, both sides of the argument are correct as communication without manipulation or information would be pointless. One of the functions of animal communication is to inform. As Jack P. Hailman (2008) states, Communication is fundamentally a stand for process for transferring information from a sender to a receiver. Hailman uses this to propose that animals transfer information when they communicate. Similarly Owings, D. H. and E. S Morton (1998) quote from Green and Marler (1979, p.73), Communication consists of the transmission of information from one animal to another. Information is encoded by one individual into a signal. When received by another animal, this information undergoes decoding, while still retaining a specifiable relationship to the encoded information. In their definition, Green and Marled include the undergoing of decoding to Shannon s basic model of communication diagram which only mentions a sender sending a signal to a receiver through a ... • 34. A Study Area Is The Region Of The U.s. Lake A study area is the region of the U.S. Lake States, including Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In the region, about 27% of the estimated 20.8 million people reside in rural areas. Over 96% of the lands are considered as rural areas. Traditionally, the region had economically dependent on natural resource extraction and related low skill manufacturing industries (Hamilton et al., 2008). However, such industries are recently weakened by globalization and rising policies on protection of natural resources. Consequently, tourism based industries that depend on managed public lands not only protecting natural resources, but also providing recreational opportunities have been considered as important alternatives for local economic growth. Thus, an investigation of the relative impacts of economic structures on income distributioncan broaden our understanding of the role of each economic industry in the distributional aspects of gateway communities. There is no definitive way to define the gateway communities. In this study, I partly follow a method for Sphere of Influence of gateway communities suggested by the M3West study (Hester, 2013). He used a travel distance that is measured by predefined buffer distance for recreational commuting from gateway communities to public lands. Thus, I first collect public land data (see figure 1). Then, I use a sensitivity analysis to select an appropriate travel distance for recreational commuting based on 5, 10, and 15 mile buffer. From ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Essay on The Mental Health of Individuals in the LGBT... The mental health of individuals in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community is something that is a serious problem. For most of the history of the United States and many different parts of the world LGBT people faced much persecution and in some cases even death. This constant fear of discovery and the pressure that one feels on oneself when in the closet can lead to major mental distress. Research has shown that people who identify as LGBT are twice as likely to develop lifetime mood and anxiety disorders (Bostwick 468). This is extremely noticeable the past couple years in the suicides of bullied teens on the basis of sexual identity and expression. The stigma on simply being perceived as LGBT is strong enough to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also worth noting that research into the mental health of the LGBT community is lacking (then and now) and that discrimination is legal in many cases (Luckstead 3). Some of the ways that discrimination is legal would be the banning of marriage rights in some states, the absence of sexuality and sexual expression in the working on discrimination clauses around the nation, the ability for a person to be fires or evicted simply because they are LGBT. All of these things can cause stress in the life of members of the LGBT community and in te cause of stress you find causes and additives to mental distress and illness. One could surmise that with the turning tide on the issue of gay rights in the US that the mental health risk here is not work looking into. This would be incorrect and the suicides of LGBT youth in the past couple years confirms this. The causes of these mental illnesses can be attributed heavily to discrimination on almost all fronts. The impact of institutional discrimination, that is discrimination that is passed through laws or amendments in a state or federal level, has been shown. It had been shown that the prevalence of mental illness is higher in states that do not provide protection from discrimination such as in the work place and in marriage (the bans of the time of ... The Carbon Of Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment The Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment (CARVE) is a multi year mission conducted by NASA to obtain detailed calculations of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide and methane from thawing permafrost by probing deep into the frozen landscape of Alaska. For the first time, NASA scientists have been accurately recording these emission sources and rates using highly sensitive airborne sensors mounted on NASA government aircraft. NASA scientists expect to make unprecedented accurate estimates of the extent of Arctic carbon cycling impacts to the Arctic atmosphere and the local Alaskan ecology. The data results of this mission will help both NASA and global scientists better understand how the estimated rate of greenhouse gasemissions affect the rise in temperature and potential impact of Earth s future climate near and long term. The CARVE mission goals intend to answer important questions about Earth climate change. Ultimately, CARVE will provide an integrated set of data that will provide unprecedented experimental insights into Arctic carbon cycling. Over the last several decades, climatologists have found that Arctic regions, in particular, have been affected most ecologically, for overall global increased temperature changes resulting from greenhouse gas emissions. Millicent is faced with a decision in the short story, whether to be initiated or not. The use of character plot and theme play a role in the final decision that Millicent makes. The author uses characterization and conflict effectively in the short story to create character plot and theme. Characterization is effectively used to create character plot and portray the theme of the story. This is effectively used by the author through Millicent s thoughts and through the use of other characters. For instance, Millicent continually tells herself that what girl wouldn t want to be elected like she was (Plath 240). She repeatedly tells herself ideas such as this, because she is trying to convince herself that she is making the right choice. Another instance is shown when Tracy tells Millicent that Millicent will change, whether she thinks she will or not (240). • 55. Should Community College Should Be Free Should Community College be Free? In the article, As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama s Free Community College Idea written by Joanne Jacobs, the author states the different arguments between whether or not Obama s idea of making community college free is a good idea for both the institutions and for the students planning on attending. This can then lead to colleges not getting any funding because they won t be getting any money, tuition wise, from the students but rather the government. Although the idea of free community collegeis what everyone believes is the best option, I think it shouldn t be free because tuition for low income students is technically already free, four year universities cost much more, and lastly because this can then lead to competition between low income students and upper middle class students. Many Americans today believe that if you are in the lower class, you won t be capable of attending college and will end up just working tedious jobs your whole life with no college education. Many don t know if one falls into the category of a low income student, they are eligible to apply to all the financial help colleges provide in order to go to college for free. They don t need it written, by law that community collegemust be free. According to College Board, tuition at community colleges averages $3,347 per year, and many students are eligible to receive around $6,000 per year in Pell Grants provided from FAFSA or even the Dream Act. Nozick believes that pleasure is good and any component such as pain does not increase personal well being. The Experience Machine gives a person any experience they want functioning as a tank where scientists stimulate your brain to believe that your experience is actually happen.
