Escambia County Court Case Study
On the evening of Thursday, August 25, 2016, officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission (FWC) encountered Lan Nguyen Tran, a fisherman of Escambia
County. Suspicious of Tran s shrimp boat and nets, Officer Allgood and Officer Manning of the
FWC inspected Lan Tran s fishing nets, of which four were discovered to be larger than sizes
permitted by law, equating to a misdemeanor offense in the state of Florida (source). In a second
level violation of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rules, Tran was
detained, and a total of four oversized fishing nets were confiscated by the FWC officers
(source). On Thursday, September 8, 2016, Lan Nguyen Tran entered the Escambia County court
system, was arraigned on Friday, September 26, and pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, November 1,
based on reports from the Escambia County Clerk of the Court (source). Tran was appointed a
public defender by the court system, and The Honorable Ms. Jennifer Frydrychowicz was assigned

While the courtroom was relatively small in size, the front of the room featured a table for the
prosecution team, along with two separate podiums, stationed just before the judge s bench. The
room also featured a juror s box; however, no jury was present for the duration of Tran s court
session. To the viewer s right of the judge s bench, a team of court officials were seated, while a
witness stand was positioned to the viewer s left of the judge s bench. Two bailiffs were

Software Project Failure Essay
Failure of Software Project : There are many reasons for the failure of the project here are the few
reasons how there is a failure accourance for the software projects. в¦ЃThe first reason is no proper
planning for the project. в¦ЃNo sufficent time в¦ЃNo sufficient budget в¦ЃNo good communication.
в¦ЃNo proper testing в¦ЃNot reaching to industry standards. No Sufficent time : The deadline for
the project is decided before the project starts. As the deadline is given we start assuming that the
sooner we start coding the sooner we will finish. This kind of apporach is always wrong. It is very
importatnt to spend time for creating a good design for the product with out a proper design that
leads for continious changes for the project. So when this happens there is no sufficient time
because lot of time gets wasted. No Sufficient Budget : Many of the projects have low budgets
based on their own requirments. When this happens everything slows down eventually and the
quality suffers. No Good Communication : There should always be a good communication with
development team ,the users and the customers. This one of the important thing for the success of
the project. No proper Testing : When the product to be delivered in the moment the only thing that
suffers is testing. All the testing is left pending untill the coding is done from the development
team. So, this results the product with lot of bugs and custmer feel unhappy. Not reaching to
industry standards : Conforming to industry

According to the Quantitative Distribution and Characteristics of Neuston Plastic in the North
Pacific Ocean (1985), the usual way to find the plastic objects are brought by ships such as lines,
nets, and floats. In addition, it is possibly any kind of plastic package or object would be
discarded and lost to the sea. Plastic objects would suffer natural division to turn into small
fragments. Moreover, the plastics density, or trapped gas will lead to plastic fragments float on the
ocean and cannot sink.
2.2 The Great Pacific Garbage Patch characteristic The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the massive
and immovable region of the North Pacific Ocean bound by the North Pacific Gyre. The gyre s
rotational pattern attracts waste debris across the North Pacific Ocean. Moreover, when the waste
debris imprisons in the currents, wind driven surface currents move floating fragments slowly
toward the center, and trapping them in the section. The garbage patch s size is still unknown
because large and visible waste items are uncommon to see and lots of small fragments are
suspended at or just below the surface that they are difficult to measure by aircraft and satellite. Sea
Studio Foundation reports that the garbage patch s is roughly twice the size of Texas, and
containing approximately 3.5 million tons of

Tppa Pros And Cons
The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement is a free trade agreement between 44 different countries
controlling 40% of the world s economic output. It spans over 4 continents, comprising of 800
million people, and $28.5 trillion of combined gross domestic product between the 12 pact
countries. The TPPA is the world s largest free trade agreement to ever exist. This partnership
agreement achieves its power by implementing new rules and regulations in their attempt to
improve the global economy. However, if the agreement is passed, the new laws introduced will
negatively impact the Canadian economy because it strips away basic human rights and needs or
make them harder to obtain by restraining governmentpowers. The 6000 page contract targets

However, the Trans Pacific Partnership has been secretly conducting the Intellectual Property
Protection Provision (IPPP) to counteract the purpose of the OHIP. Instead of providing
medication and free health services, the agreement makes access to health care more expensive
and less accessible. Leaked documents found by Stephen Cornish, director of Docrtors Without
Boarders/MГ©decins Sans FrontiГ©res, wrote an article entitled Trans Pacific Partnership which
reveal the Patent Extension Provision law part of the IPPP allowing a 20 year extended patent
guarantee for modifications on existing drugs. The effect of this will increase drug costs, lengthen
the time period needed to put new medication on shelves, and delay generic competitions from
producing less expensive versions of drugs which are vital to global health. The U.S.A is also
pushing for stringent intellectual property protections on drugs to give dominant pharmaceutical
companies longer monopolies over generic brand name drugs. According to Scott Sinclair and
Stuart Trew from The National Observer, they stated in their article Implications for Canada of a
Fast Tracked TPP that patent extensions will add at least $800 million annually to Canadian drug
costs, which is already the second highest in the world.

Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay
A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The
purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567
1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to
find out how music changed throughout the Baroque period.
While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the
music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time
period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two
composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was
taken to chose composers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect
or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the
only psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has
no indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor
throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation,
consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript.
Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may
actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main
reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly.
In the Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send.
While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in some respects
not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in
common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some
churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque
period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services.
Aside from that, Monteverdi, being more

Compare And Contrast George And Lennie In Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck in 1937. Steinbeck gave us in this story
a vivid view of the style of life after the world crisis in ninety twenty nine; People were trying to
survive by working in ranches. At the time, even Steinbeck himself was a traveler working in
ranches. The story in this novella is about two characters who travel together, which was
uncommon at the time. George and Lennie were totally opposites in character and their size of
body and their capacity of mind. George was small and smart, while Lennie was huge and a sort of
mind retarded. Both of them were runaways, because of Lennie who always causes them troubles
wherever they find work. From their first day in the new ranch, they started to... Show more content

decided to take the burden onto him and do it himself. George decided to do it by himself,

and showed him that he is not angry about him this time; he even narrates to him his favorite story,
about them having a ranch full of rabbits and animals, after he finishes the story he told Lennie
that he loves him and he put the gun behind Lennie s head and shot him dead quietly while Lennie
was happy. George then decided to kill him and save him from his miserable

What National Monument Means The Most To Me Analysis
What National Monument Means the Most to Me? The Statue of Liberty that stands on Ellis Island
in New York is very important to me. It represents freedom, hope, the end of slavery, and many
more things. It is a very meaningful national monument that reminds us every day what it really
means to be an American citizen and be apart of this country.
This monument definitely represents freedom for me. I have come to the understanding that in
the past, we were not free. I have learned that us getting our freedom was a huge step into a better
future for our homeland. Another way this represents freedom is the fact that it represented the
end of slavery and honored Abraham Lincoln. Slavery was a very bad time for our country and
not a time that we should be proud of. The fact that Abe Lincoln and many others fought for the
end of slavery is very meaningful. Having the Statue of Liberty represents how very lucky we are ...

The New York Harbor was a major port entry for immigrants in 1892. Many immigrants coming
from across the ocean to America thought of Lady Liberty as a symbol that they were free from
poverty and sadness. They saw it as the beginning of a new life in a new country. When they saw
the statue, it gave them a lot of hope, and I find it important that the statue stands for hope in times
when we need something to remind us that we will be safe, no matter the circumstances.
During the American Revolution, France and America had a strong friendship. For that reason,
France and America came up with the idea that they would make a statue to represent America s
freedom and democracy as well as their friendship. So, they conjured up the plan that the
Americans would build the pedestal, while the French were responsible for the statue and its
assembly in America. I feel this is very important because of its representation of our friendship. It s
important to have allies and build something with so much

The Role Played by the International Force for East Timor...
The Role Played by the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) in the East Timorese
Efforts to Achieve Independence
Introduction
East Timor (also called Timor Leste in Portuguese) is a country in Southeast Asia. It was a
Portuguese colony from the 16th century up until Portugal s decolonisation in 1975. In 1976
Timor Leste was invaded by Indonesia who sought to expand its territory. This lead to the
development of long guerrilla warfare between the East Timorese who wanted their independence
and the Indonesian troops who suppressed the East Timorese efforts to independence. This struggle
for independence lasted from 1976 until 1999. This led to the deaths of a third of the East Timorese
population due to conflict related ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
INTERFRET withdrew from Timor Leste in February 2000. UNTAET oversaw the democratic
elections held in 2001 and East Timorese independence was official in May 2002.
This topic is of significance because the humanitarian intervention in Timor Leste is regarded as a
prime example of how the use of force by the international community can lead to peace in a
country. In the Timor Leste case the theory of humanitarian intervention is put into practice. As the
peacekeeping forces helped the self determination efforts by the East Timorese by rapidly helping to
quell the violence, and control the civil unrest after the referendum. The humanitarian intervention
in Timor Leste under the aegis of Australia is a worthy case study of a multinational intervention. It
is of great relevance for students of international relations to assess the reasons for the intervention
and also it is important to explore its short and long term effects.
The main research question of this paper is to what extent the International Force for East Timor
(INTERFET) play a role in the East Timorese efforts to achieve independence. This will be
explained in the following chapters. The first chapter examines the circumstances that led to the
Humanitarian Intervention in Timor Leste. Before examining the circumstances that led to
intervention in Timor Leste, in this chapter the concept of

Feminism for me has come to be the recognition of oppression and privilege. What one does with
this knowledge of oppression and privilege is that person s version of feminism. After reading Tong

continuum of the feminist movement. Therefore, these theories cannot be boxed into clear cut
categories that share nothing in common with each other. I will attempt to formulate my own

the application of this theory, I will illuminate a feminist issue. Further, I will present ways to tackle

Through colonization and globalization this system of domination seeks to convert the more
egalitarian societies. An example of this spread of domination is the white settler s attitude
towards conquering and taming the nature, which was forcefully embedded in the Native
American culture. I am interested in exploring how the foundation of the issue, which is tied to
women s sexuality, plays out in the colonial context. To examine this, I will look at the
institution of marriage and prove that it is a form of patriarchal colonization of women. When I
talk about colonization of women, the colonizer is not the western world but patriarchy.
However, to make connections with colonization, I frequently use the example of White Western
colonizers (Europe) against the dark skinned Third World dwellers (Americas, Africa, Asia and
Oceania). Although marriage, wedding ceremonies, and other rituals related to marriage varies
from culture and/or geographic location, for sake of simplicity I will look at a marriage system
of monogamy between a man and a woman for life. In this system they are expected to procreate
and stay together as a nuclear family. This is close to the Western system of marriage, which is
seeping into many other cultures through forces of capitalism and cultural hegemony. There are
subtle messages that girls at a young age get about getting married. Simone de Beauvoir wrote in

The Opinion Of The Newspaper Discourse Community
Joining the newspaper discourse community was one of the greatest achievements in my high
school career and that was only possible by gaining intellect about the community, securing my
place on the team by proving myself, and by continuing to learn from my experiences.
The first step to achieving my position in this discourse community included familiarizing myself
with the intellect and style of writing that was required for journalists. In my freshman year of high
school, I took Journalism as one of my electives. This course taught the basic knowledge that comes
with journalism that includes journalistic ethics, writing, and skills. I was able to logistically prove
myself to the members of the newspaper discourse community by abiding by the ethical values of
journalism. I was able to know the difference between slander, a spoken defamatory statement,
and libel, a written defamatory statement I was successfully able avoid it in my assignments.
Similarly, I studied the Associated Press Stylebook (AP) that is a required resource to know for
journalistic writing. Through this, I was able to effectively write my assignments knowing that
instead of a thesis, I will have a lead that is thirty five words or less. I knew that my writing
would vary depending on the type of story I was assigned. For example, a news story follows a
certain quote transition format to emphasize the sources while an editorial piece would follow a
different format catering to its persuasive nature.

Evaluation Of The American Counseling Association
Self Evaluation The American Counseling Association (2014) defines counseling as a
professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals to meet their goals in various areas
of their life. I view counseling as a ministry that is designed to help individuals acquire the skills
necessary to deal with life experiences and foster positive relationships, and establish and
complete goals. According to Flanagan Flanagan (2014), establishing a positive rapport is
essential before developing assessments and interventions (p.7). Therefore, I will take the
necessary steps in building positive rapports with my clients. In order to be able to assist
culturally diverse clients counselors should have a strong sense of self awareness. Counselors
who do not possess a high level of self awareness will hinder the progress of their clients (Corey,
Corey, and Callanan, 2011, p. 44). Therefore, it is very important that I am aware of my areas of
unresolved issues or biases. In effort to learn more about myself, I recently completed three
personality assessments, Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Gallup Strengths Finder and Strong Interest
Inventory. They revealed a plethora of information about me, some of which was rather surprising.
The Myers Briggs Personality indicator identified my personality type as ENTP. According to Sharf
(2013), ENTP personality types are described as quick, ingenious, stimulating, alert, outspoken, and
resourceful in solving challenging problems (p.150). I

The Midwestern Crime Wave Essay
The Midwestern Crime Wave All across the nation during the Great Depression people were
jobless, homeless, and starving; nowhere was this truer than in the American Midwest. Not only
did the farms and cities of the Midwest have to deal with the poor economic conditions but the
Midwest s main source of income, agriculture, was being ravaged by the natural phenomenon now
called the Dust Bowl. On top of low crop prices and a lack of employment farmland was ruined,
went unplanted, and was often foreclosed on. These extra difficulties left the inhabitants of the
Midwest with added resentments and frustration with businesses and government that seemed
unable or unwilling to help. Out of this extreme hardship came a group of people who for... Show

This in turn made the public feel that those robbing banks and kidnapping the rich were striking
out for the poor against the wealthy. With the masses on their side these outlaws had many
supporters among the American public. Claire Potter described the difficulty police had in
obtaining information on gangsters from everyday citizens. She wrote about police who were
questioning a witness whose only answer was to ask why we do not put all the bankers in jail
who stole the people s money? (147) On top of this, the gangsters also offered some sensation and
drama to the people of the Great Depression. Since fulfilling one s basic needs was so difficult the
public had little time or money for recreational activities. The stories of the wild shootouts and
daring holdups then gave the public something to talk about offering a little escape from the
difficulty if their daily lives. These two aspects allowed gangsters to make many friends and find
support easily while trying to elude authorities. Armed robbery and kidnapping were the specialty
of those that participated in the Midwestern crime wave. These crimes are what made men and
women like Machine Gun Kelly, John Dillinger, Bonnie Parker, and Clyde Barrow famous. They
may all had their start in petty crime, such as stealing cars or bootlegging, but the outlaws who
seemed to gain notoriety all graduated past these crimes quickly. According to one Dillinger

Respiratory Acidosis Case Study
Respiratory acidosis is a condition closely related to patients with Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease (COPD). According to Ranson Pierre, respiratory acidosis is characterized
by lab values including an increased amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood and a lower,
more acidic pH level (2016). More specifically, a CO2 value greater than 26 mEq/L and a pH
level below 7.35 (Ranson Pierre, 2016). These lab values signify the lungs inability to effectively
eliminate the CO2 produced by the body. In turn, this produces more carbonic acid H2CO3, which

respiratory acidosis was admitted due to an exacerbation of COPD and asthma. This patient s lab
results showed an elevated CO2 level of 31 mEq/L. The form of COPD that the patient had was
chronic bronchitis. The pathophysiology behind chronic bronchitis is inflammation and
constriction of the bronchial tubes making a perfect environment for mucus to accumulate and
inhibit breathing (Pietrangelo, 2016). Because inspired oxygencannot flow as freely to the alveoli,

the nurse. Having the patient demonstrate proper spirometer use is a great nursing outcome that

Loneliness in Works of Emily Dickinson Essay
In the poems of Emily Dickinson, there are many instances in which she refers to her seclusion
and loneliness, and how wonderful the two can be. In a book entitled, Emily Dickenson: Singular
Poet, by Carl Dommermuth, she writes: She (Dickinson) apparently enjoyed a normal social life
as a school girl, but in later years would seldom leave her home. She was passionate yet distant.
This distance Dommermuth speaks of is quite evident in Dickinson s works. Dickinson not only
loves her loneliness but also feels as though she cannot live without it.
Emily Dickinson lived most of her time on this earth, from 1830 1886, in the small New England
town of Amherst. New England was where the seeds of Puritanism took hold, and the Dickinson ...

As feminist literary scholars Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar noted, It was combining
Transcendentalism with the Bible and her Puritan background which enabled Dickinson to contrive
her own interpretation of theology which was expressed through her poetry (843).
As Dickinson retreated from the public s view, she contemplated issues that dealt with subjects of
nature, individuality, God, and death. None of Dickinson s poems were published in her lifetime,
and it was only after her death in 1886 when her sister Lavivia discovered a collection of over
1,000 poems, that the world was blessed with the poems of Emily Dickinson.
Dickinson s bout with religious turmoil is quite evident in poem 1545; The Bible is an antique
Volume , in which she seems to be attacking the Puritan radicals such as Jonathan Edward. This
poem gives almost a complete overview of the Bible, speaking of Eden, Satan, Judas, David, and
also Sin. This poem lets us see why and also how this strict religious upbringing may have pushed
her to become the `old spinster as some may call her, or the woman with the disease of agoraphobia.
In poem number 405, It might be lonelier; Dickinson adds a twist to a traditional view on
loneliness. Instead of speaking of being lonely as a negative feeling, she sees herself as `lucky for
having it . It s almost as though she is feeling sorry for those who aren t able to feel alone in the
same way.

The Importance Of African Culture In Chinua Achebe s...
Chinua Achebe s most well known novel Things Fall Apart was defined by many as a modern
piece of African literature that was truly African. It became a major contribution to literature
around the world. The novel revolves around an Ibo village in Nigeria. The inclusion of African
culture, such as the language, stories, and way of life, create depth and dimension and are
essential to the telling of the Ibo story by Achebe. The certain Ibo words included in the novel
help develop a taste for true African culture. Without these words, Achebe would not have been
able to explain himself as well as he did. The words that are used in the english language differ
greatly from the words used in Ibo language. Achebe illustrates this when he writes, That was
how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was not only another name for a woman, it could
also mean a man who had taken no title (Achebe 13). In this piece from the novel, it demonstrates
that the special African word has a greater meaning than any English word ever could. If Achebe
were to just say the word woman in place of the word agabala, many readers may become confused
as to what he means. The word choice establishes what true African culture is. The author
demonstrates this principle of the difference of language on many occasions throughout the novel
such as, This man told him that the child was an ogbanje, one of those wicked children who, when
they died, entered their mothers wombs to be born again (Achebe 77) and

The Reproductive Rights Of Women
The reproductive rights of women have always been a hotly debated topic between those who
support a women s right to an abortion and those who vehemently oppose it. The United States
Supreme Court ruled in the landmark case Roe vs. Wade that it was legally a woman s right to
have an abortion in 1973, and clearly outlines that states cannot pass laws that create an undue
burden for women who choose to exercise their rights and terminate their pregnancy. Since then,
there have been consistent challenges from many states along with pro life organizations all over
the country to find ways to limit and to control the reproductive rights of women. In 1992, even
though the ruling of Roe vs. Wade was confirmed in the case of Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, the
Supreme Court also ruled that states can create regulations to limit abortions in order to protect the
safety and health of the mother and the life of the unborn fetus. The outcome has resulted in several
traditionally conservative states including Arkansas, Texas, North Dakota and Indiana passing laws
that are cleverly disguised as rules to protect women, but ultimately makes it extremely difficult if
not all together impossible for women to seek a legal abortion.
On March 2nd, 2016, the state of Texas, a state that already has some of the toughest abortion
laws in the United States of America, had one of its most controversial bills Senate Bill 2, also
known as House Bill 2 or HB2, challenged by the case Whole Woman s Health

The Spaniards And The Indians
The Spaniards and the Indians The Spanish crown was almost the top world power at the time of
the North American exploration. They had ships, men, influence of Christ, and the pursuit for gold.
These were some of the key features that the Spanish were going to use to justify enslavement and
mistreatment of the Indians. Portugal became a global empire; Spainwanted to find a faster way to
get to Asia (Lecture). The Spanish exploration started with Columbus in the year 1492. One year
later, 1493 Columbus returned with seventeen ships and more than one thousand men to explore
the area and establish a Spanish outpost. (Foner, GML Pg19) This was the beginning of the
colonization of North America. There is a lot to be learned about the way the Spanish and Indian
people interacted, it was similar to the English but not as harsh. The way the Spanish treated the
Indians has had a place in history ever since. Word spread of Columbus s travels east and the
people were astonished. Out of the excitement it leads to more expeditions to South and North
America. In 1502, the Spanish explorer, NicolГЎs de Ovando arrives to institute a more permanent

Public figures and their Privacy.
Everyone dreams of earning fame and fortune. People who are popular by virtue of their
professions, whether it is acting, sports or politics, try their best to earn the admiration and
respect of the public. This is because a huge fan base following can always use their advantage
irrespective of whether you are an actor or a politician. However, this fame and fan following
comes at a price: the loss of their privacy. Shakelford defined privacy as, Privacy is a vast concept
encompassing freedom of thought, freedom of bodily integrity, solitude, information integrity,
freedom of surveillance, and the protection of reputation and personality .(Shakelford,132) Many
newspapers, magazines, television programs, make money by reporting on private lives of
public figures such as politicians, sports person, celebrities, entertainers, and others. Does public
means no privacy? Before answering to this question we can turn on the television and see lots
of details about celebrities and public figures. The fact is that a reporter always tries to discover
the private lives of famous people. Privacy is one of the most important things on earth. When
one invades the privacy of another it causes a reaction of betrayal in the eyes of a person whose
privacy is being invaded. But does it apply to the public figures? In my opinion I believe that

Usually reduction in the interest rates cause the level of growth to increase, this is because a
reduction in interest rates makes borrowing more cheaper and encourages in investment in the

of the court. The Court has consistently held that if a state law requires different treatment of in
state and out of state economic interests to benefit the other, the law violates the Commerce Clause.
This case is very clear and that both New York and Michigan s laws discriminate against interstate
commerce. The States arguments that the laws are protected by the 21st amendment is invalid
based on the history of the amendment and the Court s precedent. The purpose of the 21st
amendment is to control the use and distribution of liquor, not discriminate against out of state
alcohol manufacturers.
The differential treatment between in state and out of state wineries demonstrates explicit
discrimination against interstate commerce.
This discrimination substantially limits the direct sale of wine to consumers, an otherwise booming
and significant business.
Both Michigan and New York argued that their plans were geared toward

Trust Definition Essay
What is the meaning of trust? What does it take for a person to fully, unconditionally trust a
person? What can that person do, to change, for you to trust them? Merriam Webster s Dictionary
defines Trust as; the belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc. And I
believe trustis the number one key in healthy relationships. For others, especially in my story, I am
still trying to understand their warped definition of that fantastic word, trust.
My story originates from a few weeks ago, August 19th, 2015 to be exact. I am relaxing at home,
vigorously going through all of my new books for school, and making sure my book bag is neat
and orderly.
All of a sudden, the phone rings. On the other line, it is my good friend, my mentor, Police
Officer Steel. Good afternoon, Geneva, how are you? , she says. I am doing great Officer Steel,
what may I help you with today? She goes on to say, Well, I know your mother wouldn t be apart
of this, so I am calling to ask, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

again.
Needless to say, my brother spent two hours in jail before he was bailed out by my mother. His
bail cost her $500.00 and was the last bit of money she had to live on until her payday. I heard he
told her he would pay her back, but he has said that about a thousand times in the past three years
and she has never seen a dime. He continues his crazy road of lies and still wonders why we don t
believe him. Wonders if we will ever trust him

The Types Of Parliamentary Democracies
The two types of Parliamentary democracies are direct democracy, also known as consociational or
consensus democracy, and representative democracy, otherwise called majoritarian democracy
(Dickovick 118 120). A consensus democracy is founded on the principle that the citizens govern
directly and that power is distributed between the executive and legislative branches to prevent and
limit one branch from gaining too much power. An example of a consensus democracyis
Switzerland, as it promotes consensus of the people, and it exhibits the factors necessary for a
direct democracy. Alternatively, a majoritarian democracy is based on the principle of majority
rules, and that power is concentrated and centralized. The United Kingdom is an example of a
majoritarian democracy because it follows the majority rule principle and possesses all the
qualities of a representative democracy. While consensus democracy and majoritarian democracies
are both forms of democracy, the contrasting approaches to democratic rule they engage in
foremost pertaining to the ideas of distribution of political power, causes the two types of
democracy to be diametrically opposite. A consociational or consensus democracy is commonly
used in heterogeneous or plural societies, as a majority rule democracy would be unpredictable and
hazardous in such a society. consensus democracy has its virtues in the front end of democracy. It
emphasizes the belief of the consensus of the people rather than the

Political Allegory In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Animal Farm is another book where the road for a better life changes society yet, becomes either
no different or worse. In George Orwell s novel, all animals are equal, but some animals are more
equal than others . Animal farm in a short summary is a small farm where the animals plot a
rebellion against the humans, which they believe are corrupt. Two pigs, Snowball and Napolean,
find themselves becoming the leaders of the animal rebellion. Throughout the story the animals
create a communist like government called animalism , which states all animals are equal and
share equal responsibilities in the farm however; the book features a series of change in
government styles such as: dictatorship, communism, totalitarianism, and circling back to a
dictatorship. Animal farm also features social commentary that leads to it being a dystopia as it
discusses the working classes, human corruption, propaganda, and abuse of power. George Orwell,
also author of nineteen eighty four, first published Animal Farm on August 19, 1945. Orwell uses
simple and easy to understand style while writes his novel as a political allegory,or story with a
hidden meaning. He strategically wrote the farm tale, Animal Farm, as a satire of the russian
revolution. The book uses the personification of animals to represent figures of Soviet Russia
during the Cold War/World War II. The novel shows how easily good intentions can turn into a
tyranny, like how the road to a utopia can subvert into a dystopia.

A Doll s House And The Glass Menagerie
Symbolism is frequently used in dramatic works to represent abstract ideas and qualities,
potentially in the form of people, objects, places, or actions. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and
Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie each include various symbols to represent the social
messages that the authors are trying to convey to the audience. In A Doll s House, the central
character, Nora Helmer, can be seen as a symbolherself. Her family and her husband treat her like
a doll, and this oppression and condescension is the reason for her inner unhappiness and longing
for independence. As well, Ibsen also focuses on the solo dance that Nora performs the Tarantella.
This dance emphasizes Nora s feelings of separation and isolation from her... Show more content on

The importance of the fire escape is pronounced right at the beginning of the play: The apartment
faces an alley and is entered by a fire escape, a structure whose name is a touch of accidental
poetic truth, for all of these huge buildings are always burning with slow and implacable fires of
human desperation (Williams 1). The fire escape is used by all of the characters to ordinarily
enter and exit the apartment, but it is also a means of escape. Laura Wingfield suffers from a
bad leg that makes her incapable of leaving her home. Since it is too difficult for her to use the
stairs of the fire escape to leave, she prefers the safety of the apartment. The one time Laura
returns from the store and uses the fire escape she trips on the stairs, clearly demonstrating how
vulnerable she is in the outside world, and how greatly she is bound to her private world within
the apartment. Conversely, Tom Wingfield, Laura s brother, wants nothing more than to follow in
his father s footsteps and leave his family behind. He frequently uses the fire escape to go out and
smoke, which shows just how much he dislikes life inside of the apartment, and foreshadows his
eventual getaway. Williams hints at escape throughout the entire play, highlighting it as one of the
key themes. Tom is constantly comparing the loyalty he feels towards his mother and sister versus
his true longing to leave home and be free of the confines of

Rachel Williams Monologue
The thunder clapped against the sky, sounding like thousands of galloping horses. There was no
sign of human life except for the truck and luxury horse trailer that zoomed by. Hard rain hit the
trailer, making loud thuds against it s rusted metal. A young teenager with brown curly hair,
freckles, and blue eyes sat in the back seat of the red truck. The girl glanced at the camper/trailer
behind them and sighed. Mom, when will we get there? The rain is scaring Thomas. the girl said,
referring to the horse in the large trailer. Allison, I have already told you that we won t be there
for another two hours. her mother replied. Allison groaned and stared out her window at the world
around her. What a gloomy day for the first day of summer. She mumbled as she opened up the

Close that window! her father yelled. Allison held her finger down on a small button until her
window locked shut, showing her the always unsatisfying reflection. She leaned over to grab her
cinch strap bag. She opened the bag and pulled out her phone and headphones, connecting the
two quietly. She slid the headphones over her ears as she pressed the play button on her music
playlist. Only two more hours she thought as she curled up into a ball. Crunching rocks filled the
girl s ears as she woke up. Allison was unaware that she had ever fallen asleep. She opened her
eyes and glanced at her phone, which had stopped playing music about an hour ago, based on the
fact that it had reached the end of the playlist. Wake up honey, we re here, Allison s mother
whispered. Allison sat up straight and looked out her window. The sun was shining bright for the
first time in ages. Allison suddenly spotted her friends walking their horses to the stables. Kate!
Sarah! She yelled as she opened her window. Allison s parents stopped next to the stables so
Allison could greet her friends and bring her horse, Thomas, to his stall. Allison bounced out the

Jurassic Park Research Papers
Jurassic Park is a movie based on the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The movie of
course, like all films based off of books, is slightly different from the original novel. Yet, this title
shares a similar theme with its original piece of work. The recreation of dinosaurs. Sadly the
Jurassic Parkversion of dinosaurrecreation will only make it harder to bring these extinct animals
back to life. Our real life scientists may be able to somewhat recreate dinosaurs through Artificial
Embryo Twinning or Somatic Cell Nuclear transfer. We have successfully cloned 20+ animals or
recreated extinct animals such as the Bucardo or Pyrenean Ibex.
The InGen scientist in Jurassic park use a form of Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The scientists...

Through this technique the scientist would have to grind up the Dinosaurs bones to extract
blood cells and proteins (Cloning and Dr. Loy). The only negative point in this form of
recreation or cloning is that it is ...used only as a backup to the cloning that produces a full
strand of DNA... . Another way would be like the InGen scientist using Somatic Cell Nuclear
Transfer. The only precaution would be to ensure that the blood or cells being extracted are
actually from dinosaurs which at this point is extremely difficult. Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer
is when and ovum is created with a donor nucleus. First, the nucleus (containing the DNA) is
removed and the rest of the cell is thrown out while the nucleus of an egg cell is also removed.
Next, the nucleus of the somatic cell is inserted into the egg cells nucleus place. After the insertion,
the host cell reprograms the somatic cell nucleus. The egg will begin to divide. Lastly, after many
mitotic divisions the single cell can form a blastocyst with closely identical DNA to the original
organism (SCNT).
Our efforts on recreating animals have been successful to an extent. Dolly the Sheep is a perfect
example of recreation (Roslin Institute, Scotland). Also animals such as the Bucardo (Bringing
them back to life) , Carp, Cumulina the mouse etc. (20 animals...). The Bucardo was successfully

and that we have been justified by the blood of Jesus. In Macmillan Bible Dictionary, justification is
defined as, basically a legal concept, and refers to a person s status in a court of law rather than
to their moral character. The New Interpreter s Dictionary of the Bible describes justification as to
being set right, to being vindicated by a judge, to having a debt removed, or to having a right

Reconciled (Reconciliation): Paul uses the word reconciled twice in verse 10 and the word
reconciliation in verse 11. In The New Interpreter s Dictionary of the Bible, A. Andrew Das states
that reconciliation indicates a change in social relationship in which two parties previously at
enmity with each other exchange friendship and peace. Throughout history God has had to
punish His people for disobedience. In effect, when we sin we become enemies of God. Through
the blood of Jesus, and our faith in Him, we are brought back into God s grace, and we will
achieve eternal life through His resurrection and his ongoing life.

The Scarlet Letter By Roger Chillingworth
Roger Chillingworth: Retribution to Death
According to an old Klingon proverb, Revenge is a dish best served cold, which Roger
Chillingworth, the evil antagonist in The Scarlet Letter knows how to serve well. As readers, we
rarely slow down and really scrutinize the works of novels. Consequently, we do not truly realize
and acknowledge the development and transition of the characters feelings, thoughts, and states of
mind. Through Roger Chillingworth, Nathaniel Hawthorne demonstrates that trying to enact
retribution on another will typically end in one s own demise.
The one definite reason for Roger Chillingworth s desire for retribution on his perceived enemy
results from Dimmesdale s act of adultery with his wife while he had not been present.
Chillingworth sends Hester Prynne, his wife, to the New World two years before while he had been
busy in England. Hester becomes impregnated by the town s minister, Reverend Arthur
Dimmesdale. Chillingworth becomes infuriated; he alters his identity, giving himself a new name
and profession. Chillingworth still has to determine who has committed the act with his wife. He
acts stern with anyone that speaks with him and expresses rage at everyone for letting the act
happen. Chillingworth suspects something about the minister at first glance but has no proof if
Dimmesdale is actually the one who enacts the crime with his wife. Chillingworth asks to stay with
Dimmesdale for medical reasons, utilizing his fake profession as a

Purpose Of Child Discipline
Everyone knows the purpose of child discipline. Parents need to set boundaries for their children
and punish them when they cross the line. Children who do not have these boundaries set for
them grow up with no respect for authority, and likely little to no respect for God. That s why
discipline is important. Proverbs 13:24, He who spares the rod Hates his son, but he who loves
him is diligent to disciplinehim. The Bibleclearly says that if someone loves their child they will
discipline them. Hebrews 12:11, For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant,
but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. The
Bible says that discipline is painful in the moment but good things will come from it. God is
quick to discipline us and he loves us more that anyone in this world. So, showing good discipline
isn t an action of hate (as some people think today) it is an action of love. Proverbs 23:13 14, Do not
withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with
the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol. The Bible says here that discipline will not kill a child
but will save the child s soul. Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go; even
when he is old he will not depart from it. Here the Bible says that if you train and discipline a
child early is life they will remember is forever. Whether someone is a Christian or not, they can
agree that the

Essay On The Third Amendment
In 1789, the Congress created the Bill of Rights to make sure the people are protected and the
government has limitations. The Third Amendment states, No soldier shall, in time of peace be
quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be
prescribed by law. ( Bill of Rights ). Throughout the years the amendments have been manipulated,
in a way, to be used in a certain way. In researching the Third Amendment, one will find the past and
present of the Quartering of Soldiers through the origins of the law, modern application of the
amendment, and its current effectiveness. In the origins, the Third Amendment was formulated
because of The Quartering Act that was created in 1774. The... Show more content on

Today it protects the people s privacy of their house. When it was created it standed for that now
soldier shall be housed literally. The federal government today is not likely to ask people to house
soldiers in their homes, even in time of war. (Wood). Also, Amendment 3 purpose today is to
protect the people from intruding their house. Amendment 3 supports Amendment 4, search and
seizure law, both laws ties into the rights of privacy. Ending, one can indicate that the Third
Amendment s application has differed from the 21st century and the era it was created in.
Court cases are examples of how the application of the law changed. Through the Griswold case the
Third Amendment protects the invasion of privacy by the government. The court held that
statement and they also asked if they would let the government search the bedrooms in that case.
The Court explained that the right to privacy was inherent in the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and
Ninth Amendments. The Bill of Rights created zones of privacy into which the government could
not intrude. ( Griswold V. Connecticut). In the Griswold case, the Third Amendment and some
other amendments protected the rights of privacy which helped Ms. Griswold. Closing up, the
Griswold case is an example how the law applies in the world now.
In the present, the Third Amendment is rarely used by the Supreme Court and is least used in the
Bill of Rights showing the application has

Affects of Ph on Peroxidase Enzyme
The Affects of pH on Peroxidase Enzyme
Claire Bell
Biology 1130

Section 36
Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower
activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its
environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent
studies and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an
experiment testing the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the
experiment we created different solutions all containing hydrogen peroxide, peroxidase, and
guaiacol. However each cuvette contained a different pH level, 2,5,7,or ... Show more content on

In the blank cuvettes, the 2 mL of pH levels 2,5,7, and 10 were added first, followed by the 1mL
of peroxidase. However our experimental cuvettes contained both hydrogen peroxide and
guaiacol. Before the cuvettes were placed in the spectrophotometer we added 0.1 mL of H202,
followed by 0.02 mL of guaiacol these two substances were added last immediately before they
were placed in the spectrophotometer. Para film was placed over the cuvette opening, and the
assay solution was shaken and placed into the spectrophotometer where its saturation level was
then tested. We recorded the saturation level of the solution every 15 seconds for 3 minutes. This
process was repeated two times for each pH level for a total of two trials.
Results
Figure one depicts the reaction rate of peroxidase enzyme over time. The y axis shows the
absorbance of the assay solutions, and the x axis depicts time it took for the reaction to occur in
seconds.
Figure 2 is a representation of the average saturation of each cuvette at a specific point time as a

Responsible Tourism
Retention of Visitor spending: The key to achieving economic sustainability for tourism in (i.e.
California and Giants Causeway) is maximising the economic retention of tourist spending in your

meeting the long term economic needs and aspirations of the local community. If the communities
are engaged by tourismorganisations as stakeholders in tourism, and economic partners in the

Training and employment of local people tourism education: The travel and tourism originations
should employ local people wherever possible. Where local people lack of the necessary skills,
training programmes should be implemented. An example is Sandals in the Caribbean, who claim
to have compulsory training for 120 hours per year for line staff in their hotels.
Visitors and traffic management: Reducing the impacts on sensitive natural areas would enable
the local communities to protect and sustain for future generations. The Peak District National
Park could be shown as an example, as they have visitors from all around the world and it has
enormous impact on social life s as well as the landscape of the visiting places. By restricting, the
visitor numbers would essentially lead them to cover most of the areas and it will reduce the traffic.
They can minimise the risks by enforcing external visitors to visit at certain time, which will create
an opportunity for protection and other things.
Planning control: Restrictions on the quantity and type of building help prevent a destination
becoming over developed. In Majorca, tourism has become the most important source of revenue
to the economy. Parts of the island have become over developed due to mass tourism. Eventually
action had to be taken to try and reverse the decline in the islands image

The U.S.A is also pushing for stringent intellectual property protections on drugs to give dominant pharmaceutical companies longer monopolies over generic brand name drugs. • 6. Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567 1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to find out how music changed throughout the Baroque period. While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was taken to chose composers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the only psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation, consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send. While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Steinbeck gave us in this story a vivid view of the style of life after the world crisis in ninety twenty nine; People were trying to survive by working in ranches. At the time, even Steinbeck himself was a traveler working in ranches. The story in this novella is about two characters who travel together, which was uncommon at the time. George and Lennie were totally opposites in character and their size of body and their capacity of mind. George was small and smart, while Lennie was huge and a sort of mind retarded. • 9. What National Monument Means The Most To Me Analysis What National Monument Means the Most to Me? The Statue of Liberty that stands on Ellis Island in New York is very important to me. It represents freedom, hope, the end of slavery, and many more things. It is a very meaningful national monument that reminds us every day what it really means to be an American citizen and be apart of this country. This monument definitely represents freedom for me. I have come to the understanding that in the past, we were not free. I have learned that us getting our freedom was a huge step into a better future for our homeland. Another way this represents freedom is the fact that it represented the end of slavery and honored Abraham Lincoln. Many immigrants coming from across the ocean to America thought of Lady Liberty as a symbol that they were free from poverty and sadness. They saw it as the beginning of a new life in a new country. When they saw the statue, it gave them a lot of hope, and I find it important that the statue stands for hope in times when we need something to remind us that we will be safe, no matter the circumstances. During the American Revolution, France and America had a strong friendship. For that reason, France and America came up with the idea that they would make a statue to represent America s freedom and democracy as well as their friendship. So, they conjured up the plan that the Americans would build the pedestal, while the French were responsible for the statue and its assembly in America. The Role Played by the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) in the East Timorese Efforts to Achieve Independence Introduction East Timor (also called Timor Leste in Portuguese) is a country in Southeast Asia. It was a Portuguese colony from the 16th century up until Portugal s decolonisation in 1975. In 1976 Timor Leste was invaded by Indonesia who sought to expand its territory. This lead to the development of long guerrilla warfare between the East Timorese who wanted their independence and the Indonesian troops who suppressed the East Timorese efforts to independence. INTERFRET withdrew from Timor Leste in February 2000. UNTAET oversaw the democratic elections held in 2001 and East Timorese independence was official in May 2002. This topic is of significance because the humanitarian intervention in Timor Leste is regarded as a prime example of how the use of force by the international community can lead to peace in a country. In the Timor Leste case the theory of humanitarian intervention is put into practice. As the peacekeeping forces helped the self determination efforts by the East Timorese by rapidly helping to quell the violence, and control the civil unrest after the referendum. The humanitarian intervention in Timor Leste under the aegis of Australia is a worthy case study of a multinational intervention. It is of great relevance for students of international relations to assess the reasons for the intervention and also it is important to explore its short and long term effects. The main research question of this paper is to what extent the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) play a role in the East Timorese efforts to achieve independence. This will be explained in the following chapters. The first chapter examines the circumstances that led to the Humanitarian Intervention in Timor Leste. An example of this spread of domination is the white settler s attitude towards conquering and taming the nature, which was forcefully embedded in the Native American culture. I am interested in exploring how the foundation of the issue, which is tied to women s sexuality, plays out in the colonial context. To examine this, I will look at the institution of marriage and prove that it is a form of patriarchal colonization of women. When I talk about colonization of women, the colonizer is not the western world but patriarchy. However, to make connections with colonization, I frequently use the example of White Western colonizers (Europe) against the dark skinned Third World dwellers (Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania). Although marriage, wedding ceremonies, and other rituals related to marriage varies from culture and/or geographic location, for sake of simplicity I will look at a marriage system of monogamy between a man and a woman for life. In this system they are expected to procreate and stay together as a nuclear family. This is close to the Western system of marriage, which is seeping into many other cultures through forces of capitalism and cultural hegemony. The first step to achieving my position in this discourse community included familiarizing myself with the intellect and style of writing that was required for journalists. In my freshman year of high school, I took Journalism as one of my electives. This course taught the basic knowledge that comes with journalism that includes journalistic ethics, writing, and skills. I was able to logistically prove myself to the members of the newspaper discourse community by abiding by the ethical values of journalism. I was able to know the difference between slander, a spoken defamatory statement, and libel, a written defamatory statement I was successfully able avoid it in my assignments. Similarly, I studied the Associated Press Stylebook (AP) that is a required resource to know for journalistic writing. Through this, I was able to effectively write my assignments knowing that instead of a thesis, I will have a lead that is thirty five words or less. I knew that my writing would vary depending on the type of story I was assigned. For example, a news story follows a certain quote transition format to emphasize the sources while an editorial piece would follow a different format catering to its persuasive nature. ... According to Flanagan Flanagan (2014), establishing a positive rapport is essential before developing assessments and interventions (p.7). Therefore, I will take the necessary steps in building positive rapports with my clients. She wrote about police who were questioning a witness whose only answer was to ask why we do not put all the bankers in jail who stole the people s money? (147) On top of this, the gangsters also offered some sensation and drama to the people of the Great Depression. Since fulfilling one s basic needs was so difficult the public had little time or money for recreational activities. The stories of the wild shootouts and daring holdups then gave the public something to talk about offering a little escape from the difficulty if their daily lives. These two aspects allowed gangsters to make many friends and find support easily while trying to elude authorities. • 22. Respiratory Acidosis Case Study Respiratory acidosis is a condition closely related to patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). According to Ranson Pierre, respiratory acidosis is characterized by lab values including an increased amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood and a lower, more acidic pH level (2016). More specifically, a CO2 value greater than 26 mEq/L and a pH level below 7.35 (Ranson Pierre, 2016). These lab values signify the lungs inability to effectively eliminate the CO2 produced by the body. In turn, this produces more carbonic acid H2CO3, which then increases the acidity of the blood(Wasserman, 2017). The patient that prompted me to research respiratory acidosis was admitted due to an exacerbation of COPD and asthma. This patient s lab results showed an elevated CO2 level of 31 mEq/L. The form of COPD that the patient had was chronic bronchitis. The pathophysiology behind chronic bronchitis is inflammation and constriction of the bronchial tubes making a perfect environment for mucus to accumulate and inhibit breathing (Pietrangelo, 2016). As feminist literary scholars Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar noted, It was combining Transcendentalism with the Bible and her Puritan background which enabled Dickinson to contrive her own interpretation of theology which was expressed through her poetry (843). As Dickinson retreated from the public s view, she contemplated issues that dealt with subjects of nature, individuality, God, and death. None of Dickinson s poems were published in her lifetime, and it was only after her death in 1886 when her sister Lavivia discovered a collection of over 1,000 poems, that the world was blessed with the poems of Emily Dickinson. Dickinson s bout with religious turmoil is quite evident in poem 1545; The Bible is an antique Volume , in which she seems to be attacking the Puritan radicals such as Jonathan Edward. • 26. The Importance Of African Culture In Chinua Achebe s... Chinua Achebe s most well known novel Things Fall Apart was defined by many as a modern piece of African literature that was truly African. It became a major contribution to literature around the world. The novel revolves around an Ibo village in Nigeria. The inclusion of African culture, such as the language, stories, and way of life, create depth and dimension and are essential to the telling of the Ibo story by Achebe. The certain Ibo words included in the novel help develop a taste for true African culture. Without these words, Achebe would not have been able to explain himself as well as he did. The words that are used in the english language differ greatly from the words used in Ibo language. Achebe illustrates this when he writes, That was how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was not only another name for a woman, it could also mean a man who had taken no title (Achebe 13). In this piece from the novel, it demonstrates that the special African word has a greater meaning than any English word ever could. If Achebe were to just say the word woman in place of the word agabala, many readers may become confused as to what he means. The word choice establishes what true African culture is. The author demonstrates this principle of the difference of language on many occasions throughout the novel such as, This man told him that the child was an ogbanje, one of those wicked children who, when they died, entered their mothers wombs to be born again (Achebe 77) and ... The Reproductive Rights Of Women The reproductive rights of women have always been a hotly debated topic between those who support a women s right to an abortion and those who vehemently oppose it. The United States Supreme Court ruled in the landmark case Roe vs. Wade that it was legally a woman s right to have an abortion in 1973, and clearly outlines that states cannot pass laws that create an undue burden for women who choose to exercise their rights and terminate their pregnancy. Since then, there have been consistent challenges from many states along with pro life organizations all over the country to find ways to limit and to control the reproductive rights of women. In 1992, even though the ruling of Roe vs. Wade was confirmed in the case of Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, the Supreme Court also ruled that states can create regulations to limit abortions in order to protect the safety and health of the mother and the life of the unborn fetus. The outcome has resulted in several traditionally conservative states including Arkansas, Texas, North Dakota and Indiana passing laws that are cleverly disguised as rules to protect women, but ultimately makes it extremely difficult if not all together impossible for women to seek a legal abortion. On March 2nd, 2016, the state of Texas, a state that already has some of the toughest abortion laws in the United States of America, had one of its most controversial bills Senate Bill 2, also known as House Bill 2 or HB2, challenged by the case Whole Woman s Health ... There is a lot to be learned about the way the Spanish and Indian people interacted, it was similar to the English but not as harsh. The way the Spanish treated the Indians has had a place in history ever since. Word spread of Columbus s travels east and the people were astonished. • 53. Essay On The Third Amendment In 1789, the Congress created the Bill of Rights to make sure the people are protected and the government has limitations. The Third Amendment states, No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. ( Bill of Rights ). Throughout the years the amendments have been manipulated, in a way, to be used in a certain way. In researching the Third Amendment, one will find the past and present of the Quartering of Soldiers through the origins of the law, modern application of the amendment, and its current effectiveness. In the origins, the Third Amendment was formulated because of The Quartering Act that was created in 1774. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today it protects the people s privacy of their house. When it was created it standed for that now soldier shall be housed literally. The federal government today is not likely to ask people to house soldiers in their homes, even in time of war. (Wood). Also, Amendment 3 purpose today is to protect the people from intruding their house. Amendment 3 supports Amendment 4, search and seizure law, both laws ties into the rights of privacy. Ending, one can indicate that the Third Amendment s application has differed from the 21st century and the era it was created in. Court cases are examples of how the application of the law changed. Through the Griswold case the Third Amendment protects the invasion of privacy by the government. The court held that statement and they also asked if they would let the government search the bedrooms in that case. The Court explained that the right to privacy was inherent in the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Ninth Amendments. The Bill of Rights created zones of privacy into which the government could not intrude. ( Griswold V. Connecticut). In the Griswold case, the Third Amendment and some other amendments protected the rights of privacy which helped Ms. Griswold. Closing up, the Griswold case is an example how the law applies in the world now. In the present, the Third Amendment is rarely used by the Supreme Court and is least used in the Bill of Rights showing the application has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Affects of Ph on Peroxidase Enzyme The Affects of pH on Peroxidase Enzyme Claire Bell Biology 1130 Jazmen Myers Section 36 Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent studies and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an experiment testing the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the experiment we created different solutions all containing hydrogen peroxide, peroxidase, and guaiacol. However each cuvette contained a different pH level, 2,5,7,or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the blank cuvettes, the 2 mL of pH levels 2,5,7, and 10 were added first, followed by the 1mL of peroxidase. However our experimental cuvettes contained both hydrogen peroxide and guaiacol. Before the cuvettes were placed in the spectrophotometer we added 0.1 mL of H202, followed by 0.02 mL of guaiacol these two substances were added last immediately before they were placed in the spectrophotometer. Para film was placed over the cuvette opening, and the assay solution was shaken and placed into the spectrophotometer where its saturation level was then tested. We recorded the saturation level of the solution every 15 seconds for 3 minutes. This process was repeated two times for each pH level for a total of two trials. Results Figure one depicts the reaction rate of peroxidase enzyme over time. The y axis shows the absorbance of the assay solutions, and the x axis depicts time it took for the reaction to occur in seconds. Figure 2 is a representation of the average saturation of each cuvette at a specific point time as a function. The y axis shows the specific saturation points from figure 1, and the x axis provides the different levels of pH. The pH scale provided on the x axis ranges from 0 to 14, 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most basic. The point chosen from figure 1 was the saturation levels of each cuvette at 110 seconds. The saturation point was chosen because in the previous graph at time 110 seconds the reactions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Summary Of The Synthesis Of Eugenol From Cloves The main objective of the lab work done was the extraction of eugenol from cloves, after which a calculation of the the percentage recovery of it is researched, and to the running of an IR in order to analyze the purity of the lab sample. Eugenol is the byproduct of the oil extract from cloves. This produced oil consists of mostly eugenol and acetyleugenol. In medical purposes, the oil could be used as a dental anesthetic. It is also one of the best over the counter cure for a toothache. (Kluger, 2016) Dentists use it as an antiseptic and anti inflammatory weapon agains dental pain for patients, as well as to kill germs. Because some research shows that eugenol is a good weapon against bacteriaand other harmful dental threats, Eugenol is often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Responsible Tourism Retention of Visitor spending: The key to achieving economic sustainability for tourism in (i.e. California and Giants Causeway) is maximising the economic retention of tourist spending in your local economy. The sustainable tourism businesses need to develop strategies that are capable of meeting the long term economic needs and aspirations of the local community. If the communities are engaged by tourismorganisations as stakeholders in tourism, and economic partners in the tourism industry, this will actively support local tourism businesses. Tourism is a rapidly growing industry and has far reaching economic and environmental impact across the destinations; hence, if tourism is an important source of local employment and a significant... Where local people lack of the necessary skills, training programmes should be implemented. An example is Sandals in the Caribbean, who claim to have compulsory training for 120 hours per year for line staff in their hotels. Visitors and traffic management: Reducing the impacts on sensitive natural areas would enable the local communities to protect and sustain for future generations. The Peak District National Park could be shown as an example, as they have visitors from all around the world and it has enormous impact on social life s as well as the landscape of the visiting places. By restricting, the visitor numbers would essentially lead them to cover most of the areas and it will reduce the traffic. They can minimise the risks by enforcing external visitors to visit at certain time, which will create an opportunity for protection and other things. Planning control: Restrictions on the quantity and type of building help prevent a destination becoming over developed. In Majorca, tourism has become the most important source of revenue to the economy. Parts of the island have become over developed due to mass tourism. Eventually action had to be taken to try and reverse the decline in the islands image ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
