Water Molecules Research Paper
Why is water an important molecule? Intermolecular Forces
Water is one of the most important molecules as it creates and supports life on earth. Water covers
75% of the surface of the earth and around 78% of the mass of the human body (infoplease.com,
2000). Its abundance, unique properties, chemical and physical interaction are the reason behind its
importance. The chemical composition of water is H2O. It is a polar, covalently bonded molecule.
A covalently bonded molecule shares electrons between the atoms so each atoms outer shell is full.
Covalently bonded molecules are not partially charged, except for polar covalent bonds. Molecules
with polar covalent bonds have partial charges. Within the water molecule, the oxygenatoms
unevenly share the electrons since they have more protons. The ... Show more content on

Water can also be found in all three states of matter naturally on Earth because it has a low melting
and boiling point, due its covalent bonds. Cohesion is when molecules are more attracted to each
other than the surrounding molecules. Dipole Dipole forces and hydrogen bonds are responsible
for cohesion. Adhesion the opposite of cohesion, when there is a greater electronegativity
difference between other molecules than themselves. Figure 4. Diagram of meniscus and capillary
action of water due to cohesion and adhesion (study.com, 2016)
Capillary action is a process where water molecules climb up a narrow tube / material due to
kinetic energy and a combination of cohesive and adhesive forces. Refer to appendix 1 for an
experiment demonstrating this. Surface tension is the result of a high concentration of bonds on
the surface of water. When water molecules have nothing to bond with above their surface, they
concentrate forming a barrier. Figure 5. Intermolecular forces on the surface and body of water

The World Poverty Runs Rampant
People fear tangible and visible things, places they have been and never wish to return like the old
scary basement locked in darkness. Yet, poverty remains abstract, unknown, and even
unfathomable to most. Across the world poverty runs rampant as 3 billion people live on less than
$2.50 per day and more than 1.3 billion live in extreme povertyon less than $1.50 per day. These
are not abstracts, but facts so let me repeat myself, 1.3 billion people, part of the human race
whose DNA contain the same sequences as everyone on this planet live in extreme poverty; where
food, medical treatment, and clean water remains a luxury. To help put this in prospective look at
an old budgetary game of time and numbers.
Just like most people do not fully fathom the difference between million and billion, more
developed societies neither fully understand the severity of the condition, nor do they understand
the magnitude of its impact. These problems are pushed aside and 22, 000 children each day die.
In 2014, Ebola outcry garnered visible top spots in media coverage leading the US among others
to send ground personal to contain the crisis. Across developing countries malaria and tuberculosis
receives billions upon billions of dollars from both multinationals like the Global Fund and
individual donors like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. William Easterly (2006) would call
them goodhearted, as they misunderstand the major impetus of catastrophe. Diseases kill millions of

Essay on Book of Job
The Book of Job
The Book of Job has been praised but also neglected all at the same time. Its literary work is written
in a poetry sense with a prose format and considered one of the greatest pieces of literature of all
time. The Book of Job is one of first book of five generally called The Books of Poetry , which
contain Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. The Book of Job is written in
the Old Testament of the Hebrew Bible and the main theme that is seeks out is Why does God
allow the righteous to suffer? First of all I will be talking about the origins and history of the
book, and then I will give a brief summary on the story and theme of what the Book of Job is
addressing. I will then be breaking down, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then say that God is just and that his sons and daughters had died because of their own
sins. Then God appears before Job and curses him asking why he was not there when he created
the world or why he isn t omnipotent. God goes on about how Job dares question God s power,
wisdom and decisions. God continues to pound him with questions and Job apologizes for
questioning God and finally repents to God. God then addresses Job s three friends and tells
them that they have angered God and they have to offer seven bulls and seven rams to clear
their wrongdoings against God. After all the repenting and prayers, God then gives back all of
Job s losses, blessing him with twice the number of livestock he had before and blessing Job with
seven sons and three daughters. Job goes on to live joyously for another 140 years before dying.
The prologue of the book, set in prose style, is made up of chapters one and two with the
introduction of Job and his family and how successful he is and that he is blessed by God
wonderfully. It goes into Job s first test which Satan presents himself before the lord. God said to
Satan, Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless
and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil (Job 1:8). This is when Satan puts up the
challenge for God saying, Does Job fear God for nothing? Have you not put a hedge around him

Almond Chocolate Milkshake Recipe Review Hi, girls! I wish you lots of love and health! In
this post, I would like to feature an Almond Chocolate Milkshake recipe that I found in the book,
Eat Beautiful by Wendy Rowe. It is a milkshake that tastes heavenly and sinful at the same time!
The end product looked beautiful, and I found it to cheer me up for the remainder of my evening
after I finished it. The below recipe is featured on p. 66 67 of Eat Beautiful by Wendy Rowe and
the almond chocolate milkshake pictures looks so scrumptious and naughty! I would also

Cost Analysis Of Tables For Annual Booksale
Cost Analysis of Tables for Annual Booksale
Summary
The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System can save approximately $4,400/year by owning
and storing tables for the booksale instead of renting. If the Friends used the Old Sort Site
warehouse, with a small external storage site, the savings could grow to approximately $5,600/year.
Wondering why the Friends did not supply their own tables, I asked several other vol unteers about
the subject while at the 2016 Booksale. The most common reason was a lack of storage facilities,
coupled with the costs (manpower and financial) associated with transporting them. In this report I
attempt to quantify the ongoing requirements associated with ownership.
Renting approximately 480 tables has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Storage Requirements:
One possible storage site for these tables is in the Friends Old Sort Site (1350 NE 3rd St.) When I
volunteered at 2016 s Move Out, there was enough room left over to park a truck inside the
building. If this space is not used through the rest of the year as New Sort Site overflow, then a
space of easily 10 by 32 feet is available, capable of holding up to 360 tables placed on end against
the long wall. Even more could be held if they were laid flat and stacked over 8 high. Limiting the
tables to a space 10 wide, 32 long, and 13 high holds 423 tables.
The tables can also be stored in self storage units. Two locations close (about 4 miles) to the
Oklahoma Expo Hall were Public Storage at 4105 S May and SecurCare Self Storage at 5110 NW
10th St.
Public Storage had two sizes of interest: 10x10, holding about 110, and 10x20, hold ing 220 tables.
Monthly rent is $68 and $108/month respectively.
SecurCare Self Storage had many more options:
5x15 (80 tables) $52 10x10 (110 tables) $69 10x15 (160 tables) $85 10x20 (220 tables) $87 10x22

Bowlby s Attachment Theory
Attachment theory is understood by a deep bond that connects one person to another. Attachment is
characterized by specific behaviuors in children, such as seeking aid from the attachment figure
when feeling apprehensive or fearful.
Attachment theory originated with the work of John Bowlby (1958). Working in a child guidance
clinic in London led him to consider the importance of a child s relationship with their mothers.
John Bowlby working along side James Robertson (1952) revealed children experience intense
anxiety and stress when separated from their mother. Bowlby defined attachment as a lasting
psychological connectedness between human beings . Bowlbys theory of attachment was primarily
biological; he put much emphasis on attachment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mothers kept a diary in order to note down any evidence in favor of the development of
attachment. Stranger anxiety, separation anxiety and social referencing, this is when a child looks
at carer to see how they respond to a new situation, where all noted down in the children. They
revealed that a baby s attachment develops in this sequence: Asocial (0 6 weeks) Stimuli social
and non social produce a favorable reaction, Specific attachment (7 9 months) Special preference
for a single figure. Primarily develops by one year of age, Multiple attachments (10 months
onwards) baby becomes more dependent thus forming many attachments. The conclusion of the
study was that baby s would more likely form attachments with the individuals who responded
accurately to the baby s cues. Schaffer and Emerson referred to this as sensitive responsiveness.
However attachment is not an all or nothing process, it has been discovered that there may be
apparent variations between children in the attachments that they form.
Ainsworth and Bell (1971) did a controlled observation of children s attachment behavior using the
Strange Situation Classification (SSC); she did this to investigate the individual differences in
attachment by seeing how babies reacted in conditions of mild stress. Ainsworth and bell utilized a
laboratory using structured observations and observed infants aged 12 18 months.
By using a mother, her child and a stranger, they were able to enact a situation where the baby
would experience; separation anxiety, stranger anxiety, reunion behavior and willingness to

Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Lottery
Essay Assignment #1: Comparison of Story and Plot
An important aspect of literature that makes the difference between a suspenseful story and a
dull and predictable story is the dynamic use of plot. The quote by E.M. Forster that expresses
this idea is, The king died and then the queen died is a story. The king died, and then the queen
died of grief is a plot. Over the course of the term there have been a number of stories that have
touched upon this quote, those include The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson. Both of these stories had interesting central ideas that are important to ponder
upon, but the path the author took to both central ideas were different. In the story, The Story of an
Hour, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this story, it discusses the annual event where the entire community comes together to select
a name out of a black box, the person who is selected does not when anything rewarding, but is
selected to be stoned to death. Unlike in The Story of an Hour, this setting and piece is not built
off of the use of plot, but on the idea of telling a story through chronological order. This creates
an aspect where the story is predictable and arguably more dull than a story with a plot. This
aspect is created through the fact that a reader is able to predict and see what may take place do
to the use of chronological order of the story, because unlike The Story of an Hour where the story
does not follow a strict timeline, The Lottery must do so to maintain the use of story to make the
piece successful. Although the story itself is less suspenseful, the story is successful because it
able to express the central theme of asking why people do traditions strictly because their past
ancestors have by using chronological

This is the project report from evaluating the AgCredit mini case (Textbook pages 131 134)
1. Synopsis
This case focuses on an agriculture credit and loan company whose core competency is based
around its customer knowledge. The organization s IT structure and function does not suit the
business well. The current setup is not enterprise architecture and staff issues are rampant. There has
been a lot of preparatory work done in analyzing the situation and a new team was formed to chart a
course of action to transform IT. With much of the information gathering completed, the team now
must convince the business leadership of the changes and be brought ... Show more content on

future.
b. Major Initiatives and Priorities of AgCredit
After getting an idea of how the structure would look I applied knowledge from the other cases
and best practices mentioned from the textbook to suggest a prioritization process for project
selection. After developing textbook scenarios further for the new SOA model to test I looked at
the possible outcomes and largest advantages. The recommendations are used in the answer section

c. Looking back
Ideas for the capabilities and governance also came from the lectures, readings, and previous case
work. Although the specifics are much different in that the standardization of equipment is not
common between them, the cases all need better business IT partnerships and oversight. Looking
for what makes them similar and different gave a unique perspective to each case.
4. Discussion Questions
The following are the answers to the discussion questions on page 134 of the textbook.

The Holocaust And The Holocaust
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum states, The denial or distortion of history is an
assault on the truth and understanding. Holocaust denial is the act of denying the genocide of Jews
and other groups in the Holocaust during World War II. Common denial and distortions includes
that the death of 6 million Jewish people never transpired, that the deaths was an enormous
exaggeration, that the diary of Anne Frank is a forgery, and that the results of deaths in the
concentration camps were due to starvation or diseases. Often the denials is about Nazi Germanys
aim to deporting Jews from the Reich; however, not including the extermination of Jews. Their
claims includes the nonuse of extermination camps and gas chambers to mass murder Jews, or in
fact, ceased to ever exist. By denying the truth about the Holocaust, it adds insult to those who
suffered involuntarily by taking away their life robbing Jewish people and victims alike of their
past and their future. Remembrance and truths about the past affects how the society grows and
change because we become more understanding. When deniers intentionally deny or distort the
truths, it takes the very fact about the victim s life away, and ultimately we do not learn. Despite the
murder of millions of Jews and other victims impending evidences on the Holocaust, former Nazis
spread lies that it never occurred. From the start, the Holocaust was a secret only within Nazi
Germany. The Germans mostly communicated

Compare And Contrast Fodo And Beowulf
Often, people do not see Frodo as the hero in The Fellowship of The Ring. Some see the hero
being Aragon. He fits the more typical hero standard of strong, courageous, and strategic. Aragon
can be compared to Beowulf. He is the main character, in the epic Beowulf, that Tolkien translated.
An article describes Beowulfas, He is peerlessly noble, brave, and strong. Each of his hands have
a grip equal to that of thirty men. He is alone in the World (Acocella). Both characters seem as
they could take on the world by themselves. Aragon perhaps could not. He knew he was not strong
enough to withstand temptation of the ring. Like Aragon, Beowulf had a weakness too. It was his
ego. He would often get himself into trouble when completing tasks for

the principles of reporting in different circumstances such as the time based news as in press

In such a scenario, the integrity of the profession of journalism comes into question. Any acts of
bias by the journalists may adversely affect the profession of journalism. Therefore, the question of
ethical considerations takes a very serious turn with regard to war reporting. Journalists need to be
sure that the information being imparted is precise and accurate and it does not disclose any
confidential information. Journalists must also ensure that the sources from which the information
is being collected are credible and the risk of misreporting is acceptably low. Debate on War
Journalism The extent of war journalism is still contentiously debated, and mostly due to the same
reasons as previously mentioned, i.e. Safety, Security and Strategic disclosure. International
journalism has comprehensively dealt with the coverage of war and this is because of the dramatic
nature of conflicts. The trend of sensational reporting has been observed to be on rise in the recent
past and this practice compromises on the professionalism of journalism. As mentioned already, the
main objective of journalists is to impart the true and necessary facts to the media consumers;
however, the recent wave of sensationalism and commercialism has diverted professional
journalism in a completely new direction. Stories which are considered

Japan And The United Kingdom
Japan and the United Kingdom have long been world powers and are now in the top 10 biggest
economies of the world; being third and fifth in the 2014 rankings. (Centre for Economics and
Business Research. 2015) However, both countries have been hit by a great economic crisis that
changed their economies deeply. Though it occurred on different time frames; 1991 to 2000 for
Japan and 2007 to 2012 for the United Kingdom, a lot of similarities can be found between the
causes that started both crises as well as between the development of these crises. However, not
everything is comparable so we can wonder, to what extent are the Japanese recession of the
1990s and the Great Recession of 2007 2012 similar? In order to answer this question and get a
full understanding of both periods, we will first look at the causes of the Great Recession, then
have a look at the causes of the Japanese lost decade and finally, analyse the similarities and
differences between the two crises. Japan saw its nation change in 1990 when the Japanese
economy stagnated. Indeed, between 1991 and 2003 the Japanese economy only grew 1.14%
(of GDP) every year. This is not enough when compared to other developed countries. (Yuji
Horioka, 2006). Alexander, A. J. (2000) states the facts that from the first quarter of 1990 to the
first quarter of 2000 the annual increase in real gross domestic product per capita barely exceeded
1 percent, making it very clear that Japan was in a recession. This is all the

The Y2k Catastrophe And Its Effects On Society
The Y2K Catastrophe
In The midst of a rising industrial climate, the 1990s was a time for change and expansion. On
December thirty first, 1999 nearly every developed nation in the world anticipated the oncoming
new millennium. After strike of midnight, January first, 2000 a forecasted event would take place,
and many in the world were anxious to comprehend the supposed inevitable. The occurrence of the
Y2K scare changed the way the world revolves around technology during the time period, which
has lasting residual effects on society.
The fear that drove society and a complete farce was the idea that everything on which the modern
world relied would simply come to a halt at the turn of the century. This contemporary concern of
the time over technology caused an alarming dissonance between people s daily realities and the
threat of an impending apocalyptic future.
At the height of computer development, for convenience purposes, digital programmers used two
digit codes in place of the years. For example, instead of writing 1986, computer engineers simply
dated programs with 86, the 19 was left out purposefully. Engineers compressed data usage to save
storage, which at the time was very costly and took up unnecessary space. Eventually these
programmers realized that once the year 2000 comes around then, the dates would revert to 00
which computers will assume to be 1900. A simple date change to humans would equal a major
blunder to a computer. This glitch held the

Essentially what Hebdige is saying with his statement is that eventually a subcultures generic

subversion diluted pastiches of there former representations.
The validity of this statement is interesting in two ways. Firstly are subcultures subversive qualities
diluted through popularisation? And secondly and perhaps more importantly in terms of more
contemporary subcultural representations; how valid is the statement that what might be

But more than this was the relevant timing of the punk movement and subsequently, why it is so
important as an example within this discussion. The high unemployment rates and the economic
uncertainly present throughout Britain where largely to blame. As was the realisation that the
promised age of prosperity and utopia promised by the passing generation was never going to
come to the present one. As Polhemus puts it had Mclaren and Westwood not been around to toss

Punk saw itself as being in direct conflict with the established order it felt had betrayed a generation

The Significance of Xenia in Homer’s The Odyssey

The Significance of Xenia in Homer s Odyssey The society of Ancient Greece was very much
centered around the gods, and a healthy fear of the consequences of not obeying their laws. The
next most important staples of the society were the concepts of braver, pride, and hospitality, or
Xenia. The significance of these values is shown quite clearly in The Odyssey of Homer.
In the first five books of the epic, Telemachos is shown great hospitality by the kings, Nestor, and
Menelaos. As Homer writes in description of Nestor s reception of Telemachos and Athena, These
men, when they sighted the strangers, all came down together and gave them greeting with their

(Homer.9.289 2910 This is one example of the brutality that Odysseus and his crew were also

The hospitality that Telemachos and Penelope show Odysseus when he returns home, even
though they do not know who he really is yet another example of xenia. This hospitality helps in
his winning his home back from the suitors. Telemachos welcomes Odysseus into the house, and
gives him permission to beg the suitors of money. Despite knowing this, said suitors harass him

Historical Influences On Catch-22 By Joseph Heller

to teach others about the atrocities of war and their influences on society. Through his own life

to think a certain way about wars and discover more about his novel. Historical events influenced

The Patent Of Patent And Its General Applications
Patent is an exclusive rights that uses to protect intellectual property rights. In recent years, with the
development of electronic technology and the widespread use of electronic platforms, software
patents has become a hot topic that frequently discussed by the public. To a certain extent, the
patent brought many exclusive economic rights to the product inventors; the inventors can get a lot
of additional economic benefits with their product patent, especially in terms of software patent.
However, on the other hand, the negative effects of patents also should not be underestimated, such
as it might obstruct creativity, and it might cause an unnecessary litigation in order to compete the
patent. Compared to the positive effects of the patent, the negative effects of the patent seems to be
more prominent. This essay will discuss the usefulness and the harmfulness of patent from three
parts. In the first part, the essay will briefly discuss the concept of the patent and its general
applications. Then, it will analyze the disadvantages of patent. Finally, the essay will explore the
effective solution for the vicious competition of patent.
DEFINITION AND EXAMPLE
The patent is a very fuzzy concept. In general, it can be understood as an exclusive economic rights;
the inventors obtain substantial economic benefits from their invention patent. However, more
people would think of patents as a part of intellectual property; they would think of patents as an

Rock And Roll Of The 1960 S
Dr. Roessner
Reading Rock Roll
11/21/16
Pet Sounds vs. SGT Pepper Rock and Roll in the 1960 s was a very memorable decade. Rock and
roll music went through a very dramatic transformation; A few bands went through some changes
of their own to keep selling albums. Two very popular bands that went through a transformation was
the Beach Boys and the Beatles. I bring up these two well known bands because I believe that they
played a key role in the transformation of rock and roll. Rock and roll would not be the same
today without these two remarkable bands. Between the Beach Boys and the Beatles, I guess
someone could say that there was a little bit of friction. This was because when the Beach Boys
debuted in 1961 they were known as Americas favorite band, until The Beatles came to the states
in 1964. The Beatles brought something new with them when they crossed the Atlantic Ocean
from England, and this was just the beginning of something new. This friction between the Beach
Boys and The Beatles is what started a beautiful transformation of music in the rock and roll
world, and it all started with the albums Pet Sounds and SGT Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Some background on these two bands and where they came from. In 1961 The Beach Boys were
born. The band was made up of five men Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston,
and Al Jardine. Brian was the brains of the band and his imaginative ambitions and songwriting

In 1994, the world saw the decline of the Mexican Peso, leading to what is now considered as the
Mexican Peso Crisis. The crisis was characterized by the drastic decline in the value of the
Mexican Peso. The Mexican Peso Crisis is considered significant because of its impact on other
parts of the region, including Brazil. The following is a discussion of the causes and impact of the
Mexican PesoCrisis.
The events/causes that led up to the devaluation of the peso
The Mexican Peso Crisis can be traced to the decision of then president Zedillo s decision to
reverse the government s then policy that imposes tight controls on the Mexican Peso. This
decision is considered by critics as an important factor that led to the Mexican Peso Crisis ... Show

It should be noted, prior to the crisis, there was already an increasing concern of economists and
critics about the credit quality that was provided by the financial sector at the time when there was
low interest rates that were applied by the government. There were also issues about the
inappropriateness or ineffectiveness of the standards that were used in extending credit by the
financial sector (Calvo, 171).
Another important factor that affected the financial sector and would eventually contribute to the
development of the Mexican Peso Crisis was that the risk premium of the Mexican economy was
significantly impacted by the armed conflicts that happened in Chiapas at that time. This armed
conflict led to a decline in investor confidence about business in Mexico, such that there was a
decline in the investment potential of the region (Mathur, 18).
In addition, in the decade leading to 1994, the government saw an increasing expenditure for
various projects in the country. The result was an increased reduction in the funds of the
government. Another more important factor was that the country experienced hyperinflation from
1985 through 1993. This period was also characterized by significant increases in debt loads of the
financial sector, as well as the low oil prices that also contributed to the weakening of the Mexican
economy (Mathur, 18). One would argue that the Mexican

The analysis of Nike in athletic footwear market based on porter s Five forces model by Duke
Introduction
Given the demands of today s competitive and dynamic environment, it is quite challenging to

organizational success. Introduction in today s dynamic and competitive business environment,
survival, growth and profitability are the essence goals of all industries. Nowadays, Porter s Five

Successful use of the Porter Model Analysis includes identifying the sources of competition, the
strength and likelihood of that competition existing, and strategic recommendations for the action a
company should take to develop barriers to the various forms of competition (Prahalad and Gary,
1990). With the realization about intensity and power of competitive forces, organizations can
develop options to influence them in a way that improves their own competitive position. The result
could be a new strategic option, e.g. a new positioning; differentiation for competitive products of
strategic partnerships.
Porter s Five Forces can be applied to particular companies, market segments and industries with
the step by step analysis of market structure and competitive situation. First of all, when
implementing this module in organizations, it is necessary to determine the scope of the market to
be analyzed. Following, all relevant forces for this market analyzed and key forces are identified
(Gerry and Kevan, P.117). Actually some organizational strategy and the longer term goals are
mainly based on or consistent with the key forces. Hence, it is not necessary to analyze all elements
of all competitive forces with the same depth. Moreover, the key forces in the competitive
environment will vary in different industry. Different forces take on prominence in shaping
competition in each industry (Porter,

Questions On Oral Corrective Feedback
Oral Corrective Feedback Corrective feedback is defined as a reply to learner expressions having
an error and its major role is to offer guidance and insight to teachers on what they need to provide
to their learners in order to promote growth and comprehension of the second language. This paper
seeks to identify the various types of oral corrective feedback through studying of previous
literatures published on corrective feedback which are broadly classified into two categories:
prompts and reformulations. Despite the existence of shortcomings associated with corrective
feedback, the receptiveness of students to corrective feedback indicates its significance in
enhancing the learningof second languages. According to Lyster and Ranta, six different types of
CF exist but these can further be broadly classified into two categories; prompts and reformulations
(37). Prompts include different types of signals that push a learner to self repair. These prompt
signals include metalinguistic clues, repetition, elicitation, and clarification requests.
Reformulations, on the other hand, include explicit correction and recasts, which provide the
learner with target formulations of their non target output. Moreover, corrective feedback could be
classified as either implicit or explicit. Recasts are on many occasions considered implicit, but can
also become explicit due to certain characteristics such as length, linguistic target, and changes
made to the original utterance.

NAFTA increased the competitiveness of these three countries in the global marketplace. It allows

movie Norma Rae, union organizer Reuben Warshovsky, delivered this powerful speech to
workers at the O.P. Henley textile mill. He warned them that without union representation they
would continue to be taken advantage of by management. The movie, set in 1978, showed textile
workers in a small, southern town who were forced to work long hours for a measly wage in
deplorable and unsafe conditions. These workers were characteristically poorly educated and
largely unskilled (Leiter, 1986, p. 951). The management was neglectful of and apathetic to... Show

their present employment, they may seek to improve their workplace by forming a union instead of

not mean that unionization will occur. Employees must also feel that they are unable to influence

their only chance to improve their quality of life. By gaining union representation, workers hope to

workers a voice in decisions that affect them (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2007, p. 467). In

King Lear as a Commentary on Greed
King Lear as a Commentary on Greed
In Chapter 4 of a book titled Escape from Freedom, the famous American psychologist Erich
Fromm wrote that Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to
satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction (Fromm 98). Fromm realized that avarice is one
of the most powerful emotions that a person can feel, but, by its very nature, is an emotion or
driving force that can never be satisfied. For, once someone obtains a certain goal, that person is not
satisfied and continues to strive for more and more until that quest leads to their ultimate
destruction. For this reason, authors have embraced the idea of greed in the creation of hundreds of

Hrishikesh Ganesh Divekar
New Jersey Institute of Technology
Abstract: Smart grid technology is the combination of existing electrical architecture i.e power
generation, switchgear, power systems and digital technologies which provides smart, efficient,
reliable and cost effective ways to distribute electricity. It makes optimal use of power by
monitoring, analysis, control, and provides flexible distribution to maximize the throughput of the
electrical system.
The research paper explores the delivery and distribution of power using smart grid technology. As
delivery is the important aspect after generation, for efficient transmission of power substation
automation, outage restoration and power system analysis plays important role. The paper focuses
on distributive approach and its effective ways which will reduce the power leakage, which
generally takes place during transmission. It also explains working of various industrial and
commercial applications which uses smart grid technology i.e electrical appliances, vehicles
running using renewable source.
I.INTRODUCTION
A smart grid refers to a modernized electricity network that monitors, protects, and optimizes the
operation of its interconnected elements .The electrical sector is set to make the changes from a
centralized, producer controlled network to one that is less centralized and more consumer based.

Essay on Everyday Use By Alice Walker
People identify themselves by their colour, culture, language or religion. The identity goes back to
generations and it doesn amp;#8217;t start or change within the individual. It is an evolutionary
process where each person brings upon some changes. This is best described in Alice Walker

Nintendo s Wii Strategy
Nintendo has pursued a fundamentally different strategy and business model with the Wii console
than that of its competitors, the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3. The heart of
Nintendo s strategy was the assumption that consoles do not necessarily require leading edge
power and performance. This is a radical stance since the gaming industry traditionally competed on
technological performance, graphic quality, and game realism: factors valued primarily by die hard
gaming fans. Nintendoshifted its focus to providing a new form of player interaction targeted at a
wider demographic than the traditional avid game audience.

Production costs can be high, there is a major learning curve, and access to distribution channels
and inputs can also create challenges. In this technological advancement driven industry, the
possession of proprietary technology, partnerships with the best but cheapest suppliers can be
considered high barriers to new entrants. Once a game console is on the market, more money
needs to be invested into games and accessories as well as production due to the fact that most of
the profits come from game sales rather than console sales.
From the economies of scale standpoint, given that both Microsoft and Sony had traditionally been
operating at a loss in hopes of making significant profit gains in software and game sales, even
though both were taking steps to reduce their production costs later in 2008, a new entrant may
need to either enter on a large scale or accept a cost disadvantage and consequently lower profits.
The current three rivals are large global companies and put large amounts of resources into their
consoles, indicating that a new and small firm would find it extremely difficult to compete in the
video game industry. Therefore, the threat of new entrants is relatively low.
Threat of Substitute Products High
All three major players offer competitively priced products with similar features, as well as other
forms of entertainment such as personal computers, music, films, live events, and participation in

named Moroni, who announced the existence of two gold plates for him to find. The plates were
in an unknown language so, through God s assistance, Smith translated the plates into English.
Once they had been translated, the plates were taken back by the angel. The translation of the
plates came to be known as the Book of Mormon, which is the groundwork of the church for
Latter day Saints. Smith and his followers, due to the hostility from the local population in New
York, left to settle westward where they could practice their religion freely. Along the journey,
Smith was murdered by a mob for his religious beliefs, but his follower continued on and settled in
Utah. On February 14th, I interviewed Kevin Anderson at The

Examples Of Observation Report Daycare
During my observations, I noticed the daycare staff did an amazing job taking a holistic approach
towards the children s wellness. The teacher made sure the children had good health and nutrition.
The educator made the kids wash their hands before eating snacks. They had to sing their ABC s
while do it, so they would wash their hands long enough. Each childparticipated in a physical
activity while in the open area, called the bicycle room. The children were taking turns riding the
bicycles. That presented the teacher made sure the kids were healthy and physical. While I was
observing I had a slight cold, but the children did not. It amazed me that out of all the children who
was there, not one kid was sick. For lunch the children had oranges, pizza, and chocolate milk. The
teachers feed the children a snack about every two hours, and they eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Also, throughout the day, if a child puts their fingers in their mouth, they have to wash their... Show

This standard says, the day care center uses their understanding of young children s characteristics
and needs and of the multiple interacting influences on children s development and learning to
create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child (https:/
/www.naeyc.org/files/naeyc/file/positions/ProfPrepStandards09.pdf). The daycare I observed at
succeeded at doing that. The teacher knew each child s strengths and weaknesses. At that place,
there were a few children who did not want to be active and participate in the bicycle room. The
teacher knew which kids did not want to play, and he demonstrated what they can do and
encouraged them to be involved. For instance, this one boy wanted to sit and watch, but the teacher
said, Hey Bentley, why don t you ride this bike? As a teacher, I want to succeed in fulfilling the
requirement of standard one, just like the teacher at the daycare

How Did Humanism Influence Titian Art
How humanism changed artists paintings: An analysis of Titian s work during the 16th century
Ashmini Shiwbalak
The High Renaissance was a period of Italian painting that had the qualities of harmony and balance
with dignified, calm movement. The present study will focus on the development of early sixteen
century Venetian paintings by Titian during the High Renaissance. I ve chosen Gallery 607 at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art because it has the work of Titian, who was one of the greatest
Venetian artists, well known for his remarkable use of color and for his appealing renderings of the
human form. Titian created rich, luminous images by layering oil paint onto canvas. However, like
many of the Renaissance painters, Titian showed an interest ... Show more content on

Humanists were more curious about life in the present and focused on the achievements of the
individual. Hence, instead of religious issues, humanists examined worldly subjects that the
ancient Greeks and Romans had studied. This led the people of the Renaissance to become
interested in other areas of science, the natural world, biology and astronomy. Mazzocco goes on
to list some of the effects that humanism had on Renaissance paintings. Firstly, ordinary people
grew to be the same size as saints in paintings and saints began to look more like ordinary people.
Secondly, halos became fainter and eventually disappeared. Thirdly, the natural landscape began to
appear as a background in paintings, unlike the middle ages when artists represented figures of
heaven against a gold background. Fourthly, artists became famous for their work, and the human
body was depicted in anatomical accuracy, and frequently nude. The perfect human type had
proportions, muscular structure, oval face, triangular forehead, straight nose, and balance with the
weight on one hip. Lastly, the use of mathematical perspective to represent three dimensional space
in paintings was invented. Mazzocco s book stresses how humanism changed art and thus, artists
like Titian adopted these changes and used them in his paintings during that

Abigail Adams Rhetorical Analysis
Abigail Adams constructs a well composed letter to her beloved son John Quincy Adams in order to
support and advice John Adam. The letter is written in the twelfth of January 1780 when John
Adam was traveling abroad with his fate. The tone of Abigail Adams can be best described as being
gentle and complimentary. Furthermore, the purpose of Abigail Adams was to advise John Adam
concerning the future of his nation and to advise him on how to take charge of his country.
Throughout the affectionate letter, Abigail Adams uses parallel structure, similes, pathos, and
alludes to figures from history.
In the third paragraph of the sensible letter, Abigail Adams begins by using a simile to compare and
motivate her son John Adams about how he should work diligently and steadily. Abigail Adams
recalls an author compares a judicious traveler to a river, that increases its stream the further it
flows from its source. (paragraph 3 line 15 20) Furthermore, the use of simile indicates that Abigail
Adams wants John Adams to make a good representation of his country and acquire wisdom from
his experiences. This has a positive effect by encouraging Adams to stay true to his root. ... Show

The Effects of Culture on the Economic Development of Cities
Thorough analytic research on the impacts of culture risks are hampered by complexity of such
concepts of art and culture. Culture is by no means easy to master. There are major obstacles in
efforts to streamline the information for the economic impacts of culture. In most general terms,
culture is defined as set of beliefs and values, shared way of doing and understanding things which
ties a community and is formed by the development of that community. Apart from art and heritage
cultureincludes tradition and religious, way of life, human rights and values.
In this project we are concerned with effects of those cultural activities on the patterns of economic
development of cities. Two analyses have become accepted in the academics. First, we will
consider culture as a product, which raises questions regarding the production, the consumption and
the economic value of culture as well as cultural use as a tool for urban generation and place
marketing. This is category is more closely to the tangible elements of culture. Second, culture as a
process which leads to creative thinking to distinctive patterns of social organization and economic
growth. This covers intangible aspects.
Here, culture is conceived to be cultural activities in broad sense. Activities incorporated within
culture are those dealing with production, dissemination and trading and for education. Cultural
goods and services are in following domains:
Cultural heritage
Visual arts
Architecture

How Has Romantic Music Changed Over Time
Music in the past has changed over time and has become more complex as each musical age has
passed. Throughout history there have been several musical periods in which music has blossomed.
One period in music where musical characteristics change is the Romantic period. In the romantic
period new ideas of musiccame to light. Towards the end of the 18th century, the style of music
began to change. In the Romantic period, Romantic composers aimed for a store powerful
expression of emotion, often revealing their innermost thoughts and feelings (rpfuller). Here we can
see that Romantic period musicians completely change their style compared to previous periods.
During the Romantic period the music is more about raw emotion and passion. Musicians

Heroin Epidemic
Hilliard as well as the country, is being ravaged by the growing heroin epidemic. Heroin overdoses
have become the leading cause of death in the United States, killing 43,000 people annually. Heroin
has a devastating effect on the individuals, and families of this community. Leaders are few and far
between in Hilliard, and I believe that with enough leaders, heroincan be overcome through
effective and intentional leadership. Leaders who care will help this community by helping heal the
relationships between the addict and their family and community. I believe if this community
stands up, not only can we rehabilitate addicts but heal this community with practices discovered in
the Rat Park experiment.

Within a few months of searching, my church found a pastor who was previously a youth pastor
in Washington D.C. I, being the only female leader, went out of my way to try and induct him
into our youth group. Early on we had a conversation where I shared what worked in the youth
group as what didn t. For the first few months we had a growing pastor student relationship.
However as he became more comfortable he began to change things to make the youth group
more like his inner city youth group. I lead by example and embraced the changes until I
realized those changes were hurting the youth group. It was then that me and the male leaders
got together to come up with several things we could do ourselves to solve the emerging
problems as well as come up with a list of things we would like to address with out new pastor.
We sent a representative to our pastor to make compromises so that both parties were working
together for the good of our youth group. The situation is beginning to slowly improve because the

The Role Of Women In Persepolis
In the distance, chaos builds and guns are shot. By standing up for their rights, people are dying in
riots. These riots were about women. All around the world, women are treated differently. The
graphic novel, Persepolis, enlightens readers about the Islamic Revolution and how women were
treated during that time. Because the author was young when she experienced the Islamic
Revolution, the novel is in the perspective of her as a little girl. In the book No God But God,
readers are educated about Muhammads views of women and the religionof Islam. The Islam
depicted in Persepolis differs from Muhammad s original vision of Islam by treating women as
inferior to men while Muhammad s vision treats women as equals. In the novel Persepolis, men
objectify women, because they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the
men, women were commanded to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin
with the exception of their face. The Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway
wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays that excite men. That is why women should cover
their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no longer wear what they wanted, they felt
oppressed and degraded. The regime cruelly enforced the rule by telling their citizens that it
would protect women from all potential rapists since women were so exposed. In the novel,
Marji s mom s car broke down, so Marji and her dad went to pick her up. When they saw her, she

The Sandlot Analysis
The Sandlot : A little field never meant so much
Have you ever wondered what it would be like living as a teenager in the 1960s? Even though
filmed in 1993, The Sandlot does an outstanding job taking you back to the summer of 1963. It
takes you back in time to 1963 to a simple town in Utah. The Sandlot follows a timid young kid
through hard times, like moving to a new town and having to go through the struggle of finding
new friends. The struggle comes to an end when a compassionate young man comes up to him and
gives him a life changing opportunity. The Sandlot wonderfully depicts a unbreakable bond
between a superstar athlete and an introvert. The characters and actors honestly makes The Sandlot
become a classic. The setting and the plot really make you feel as if you were a teenager in 1960s
time. The Sandlot consists of the essentials of a memorable classic such as connections with
audiences, a perfect setting, tremendous characters, and an intriguing plot.
The Sandlot provides many opportunistic connections with the viewers to make it a memorable
movie. For example, The Sandlot starts off with a struggle many kids face today, with Smalls , a
timid young man moving to an unknown town in Utah. In the beginning of his adventure Smalls is
faced with the dilemma of finding new friends. Luckily for him a compassionate ... Show more

the middle of this typical town sits the Sandlot. The Sandlot creates the impression of an ancient

old field to the boys who play on it. The Sandlot means the beginning of many long lasting
friendships. Also every player who plays on that field knows of the ferocious Beast that takes its
claim on many baseballs over the left field

The Pros And Cons Of Modern Censorship
Duy Nguyen
10/26/17
Prof. Ferrier Watson
ENGL 1302
Modern Censorship What is censorship? Censorship means the process to examine a work, a
piece of art, etc... in order to suppress or delete any object in it that may seem objectionable or
harmful. But why is there censorship? Writing has always been a risky venture, fraught with
ethical, political and financial pitfalls. If we look at the history of the world writing, we can see
that it is filled with examples of censorship in many aspects ( political, social, personal ) and the
authors of those writing have often risked much for the sake of their written words and for the
sake of their readers. So is censorship right or wrong? To me, however, I think that there is no
clear answer to that question, for censorship has its fair balance of advantages and disadvantages
to its certain limit. A lot of people said censorship is right, cause it keeps the young generation
safe from the words that might ruin their mind, but some said censorship is unnecessary because
of it just words and sooner or later all kids will hear and know what those words mean. In my
opinion, some part of censorship is good but it depends on the limit that is taken and how extreme
censorship goes. I do agree with one advantage that most people also agree about is that censorship
helps protects the young, the innocent and the vulnerable. It is built on the premise that we don t
always know what is good for us, we

  • 2. Water Molecules Research Paper Why is water an important molecule? Intermolecular Forces Water is one of the most important molecules as it creates and supports life on earth. Water covers 75% of the surface of the earth and around 78% of the mass of the human body (infoplease.com, 2000). Its abundance, unique properties, chemical and physical interaction are the reason behind its importance. The chemical composition of water is H2O. It is a polar, covalently bonded molecule. A covalently bonded molecule shares electrons between the atoms so each atoms outer shell is full. Covalently bonded molecules are not partially charged, except for polar covalent bonds. Molecules with polar covalent bonds have partial charges. Within the water molecule, the oxygenatoms unevenly share the electrons since they have more protons. The ... Yet, poverty remains abstract, unknown, and even unfathomable to most. Across the world poverty runs rampant as 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 per day and more than 1.3 billion live in extreme povertyon less than $1.50 per day. These are not abstracts, but facts so let me repeat myself, 1.3 billion people, part of the human race whose DNA contain the same sequences as everyone on this planet live in extreme poverty; where food, medical treatment, and clean water remains a luxury. To help put this in prospective look at an old budgetary game of time and numbers. Just like most people do not fully fathom the difference between million and billion, more developed societies neither fully understand the severity of the condition, nor do they understand the magnitude of its impact. These problems are pushed aside and 22, 000 children each day die. In 2014, Ebola outcry garnered visible top spots in media coverage leading the US among others to send ground personal to contain the crisis. Its literary work is written in a poetry sense with a prose format and considered one of the greatest pieces of literature of all time. The Book of Job is one of first book of five generally called The Books of Poetry , which contain Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. The Book of Job is written in the Old Testament of the Hebrew Bible and the main theme that is seeks out is Why does God allow the righteous to suffer? Then God appears before Job and curses him asking why he was not there when he created the world or why he isn t omnipotent. God goes on about how Job dares question God s power, wisdom and decisions. God continues to pound him with questions and Job apologizes for questioning God and finally repents to God. God then addresses Job s three friends and tells them that they have angered God and they have to offer seven bulls and seven rams to clear their wrongdoings against God. After all the repenting and prayers, God then gives back all of Job s losses, blessing him with twice the number of livestock he had before and blessing Job with seven sons and three daughters. Job goes on to live joyously for another 140 years before dying. The prologue of the book, set in prose style, is made up of chapters one and two with the introduction of Job and his family and how successful he is and that he is blessed by God wonderfully. It goes into Job s first test which Satan presents himself before the lord. God said to Satan, Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil (Job 1:8). This is when Satan puts up the challenge for God saying, Does Job fear God for nothing? Cost Analysis Of Tables For Annual Booksale Cost Analysis of Tables for Annual Booksale Summary The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System can save approximately $4,400/year by owning and storing tables for the booksale instead of renting. If the Friends used the Old Sort Site warehouse, with a small external storage site, the savings could grow to approximately $5,600/year. Wondering why the Friends did not supply their own tables, I asked several other vol unteers about the subject while at the 2016 Booksale. Attachment is characterized by specific behaviuors in children, such as seeking aid from the attachment figure when feeling apprehensive or fearful. Ainsworth and Bell (1971) did a controlled observation of children s attachment behavior using the Strange Situation Classification (SSC); she did this to investigate the individual differences in attachment by seeing how babies reacted in conditions of mild stress. Ainsworth and bell utilized a laboratory using structured observations and observed infants aged 12 18 months. By using a mother, her child and a stranger, they were able to enact a situation where the baby would experience; separation anxiety, stranger anxiety, reunion behavior and willingness to ... Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Lottery Essay Assignment #1: Comparison of Story and Plot An important aspect of literature that makes the difference between a suspenseful story and a dull and predictable story is the dynamic use of plot. The quote by E.M. Forster that expresses this idea is, The king died and then the queen died is a story. The king died, and then the queen died of grief is a plot. Over the course of the term there have been a number of stories that have touched upon this quote, those include The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. • 11. The Holocaust And The Holocaust The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum states, The denial or distortion of history is an assault on the truth and understanding. Holocaust denial is the act of denying the genocide of Jews and other groups in the Holocaust during World War II. Common denial and distortions includes that the death of 6 million Jewish people never transpired, that the deaths was an enormous exaggeration, that the diary of Anne Frank is a forgery, and that the results of deaths in the concentration camps were due to starvation or diseases. Often the denials is about Nazi Germanys aim to deporting Jews from the Reich; however, not including the extermination of Jews. Their claims includes the nonuse of extermination camps and gas chambers to mass murder Jews, or in fact, ceased to ever exist. By denying the truth about the Holocaust, it adds insult to those who suffered involuntarily by taking away their life robbing Jewish people and victims alike of their past and their future. Remembrance and truths about the past affects how the society grows and change because we become more understanding. Journalists must also ensure that the sources from which the information is being collected are credible and the risk of misreporting is acceptably low. The trend of sensational reporting has been observed to be on rise in the recent past and this practice compromises on the professionalism of journalism. Though it occurred on different time frames; 1991 to 2000 for Japan and 2007 to 2012 for the United Kingdom, a lot of similarities can be found between the causes that started both crises as well as between the development of these crises. However, not everything is comparable so we can wonder, to what extent are the Japanese recession of the 1990s and the Great Recession of 2007 2012 similar? In order to answer this question and get a full understanding of both periods, we will first look at the causes of the Great Recession, then have a look at the causes of the Japanese lost decade and finally, analyse the similarities and differences between the two crises. Japan saw its nation change in 1990 when the Japanese economy stagnated. Indeed, between 1991 and 2003 the Japanese economy only grew 1.14% (of GDP) every year. This is not enough when compared to other developed countries. (Yuji Horioka, 2006). Alexander, A. J. After strike of midnight, January first, 2000 a forecasted event would take place, and many in the world were anxious to comprehend the supposed inevitable. The occurrence of the Y2K scare changed the way the world revolves around technology during the time period, which has lasting residual effects on society. The fear that drove society and a complete farce was the idea that everything on which the modern world relied would simply come to a halt at the turn of the century. This contemporary concern of the time over technology caused an alarming dissonance between people s daily realities and the threat of an impending apocalyptic future. At the height of computer development, for convenience purposes, digital programmers used two digit codes in place of the years. For example, instead of writing 1986, computer engineers simply dated programs with 86, the 19 was left out purposefully. Engineers compressed data usage to save storage, which at the time was very costly and took up unnecessary space. Eventually these programmers realized that once the year 2000 comes around then, the dates would revert to 00 which computers will assume to be 1900. The next most important staples of the society were the concepts of braver, pride, and hospitality, or Xenia. The significance of these values is shown quite clearly in The Odyssey of Homer. In the first five books of the epic, Telemachos is shown great hospitality by the kings, Nestor, and Menelaos. To a certain extent, the patent brought many exclusive economic rights to the product inventors; the inventors can get a lot of additional economic benefits with their product patent, especially in terms of software patent. However, on the other hand, the negative effects of patents also should not be underestimated, such as it might obstruct creativity, and it might cause an unnecessary litigation in order to compete the patent. Compared to the positive effects of the patent, the negative effects of the patent seems to be more prominent. This essay will discuss the usefulness and the harmfulness of patent from three parts. In the first part, the essay will briefly discuss the concept of the patent and its general applications. Then, it will analyze the disadvantages of patent. Finally, the essay will explore the effective solution for the vicious competition of patent. DEFINITION AND EXAMPLE The patent is a very fuzzy concept. Rock and roll music went through a very dramatic transformation; A few bands went through some changes of their own to keep selling albums. Two very popular bands that went through a transformation was the Beach Boys and the Beatles. I bring up these two well known bands because I believe that they played a key role in the transformation of rock and roll. Rock and roll would not be the same today without these two remarkable bands. Between the Beach Boys and the Beatles, I guess someone could say that there was a little bit of friction. This was because when the Beach Boys debuted in 1961 they were known as Americas favorite band, until The Beatles came to the states in 1964. The Beatles brought something new with them when they crossed the Atlantic Ocean from England, and this was just the beginning of something new. This friction between the Beach Boys and The Beatles is what started a beautiful transformation of music in the rock and roll world, and it all started with the albums Pet Sounds and SGT Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Some background on these two bands and where they came from. In 1961 The Beach Boys were born. The band was made up of five men Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, and Al Jardine. It should be noted, prior to the crisis, there was already an increasing concern of economists and critics about the credit quality that was provided by the financial sector at the time when there was low interest rates that were applied by the government. There were also issues about the inappropriateness or ineffectiveness of the standards that were used in extending credit by the financial sector (Calvo, 171). Another important factor that affected the financial sector and would eventually contribute to the development of the Mexican Peso Crisis was that the risk premium of the Mexican economy was significantly impacted by the armed conflicts that happened in Chiapas at that time. This armed conflict led to a decline in investor confidence about business in Mexico, such that there was a decline in the investment potential of the region (Mathur, 18). In addition, in the decade leading to 1994, the government saw an increasing expenditure for various projects in the country. The result was an increased reduction in the funds of the government. Another more important factor was that the country experienced hyperinflation from 1985 through 1993. This period was also characterized by significant increases in debt loads of the financial sector, as well as the low oil prices that also contributed to the weakening of the Mexican economy (Mathur, 18). In the textile workers case, the mill was their livelihood. Unionization would be their only chance to improve their quality of life. By gaining union representation, workers hope to present a unified voice to management to negotiate acceptable workplace provisions. From the economies of scale standpoint, given that both Microsoft and Sony had traditionally been operating at a loss in hopes of making significant profit gains in software and game sales, even though both were taking steps to reduce their production costs later in 2008, a new entrant may need to either enter on a large scale or accept a cost disadvantage and consequently lower profits. The current three rivals are large global companies and put large amounts of resources into their consoles, indicating that a new and small firm would find it extremely difficult to compete in the video game industry. Therefore, the threat of new entrants is relatively low. Threat of Substitute Products High All three major players offer competitively priced products with similar features, as well as other forms of entertainment such as personal computers, music, films, live events, and participation in sports. • 42. The Church Of Jesus Christ Commonly referred to as Mormons, though they prefer to be known as Latter day Saints. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints was formed in the first half of the nineteenth century by its founder, Joseph Smith. Smith was said to have been visited by God, the Father, and Jesus Christ after retreating to the woods to pray for guidance. At the time there were multiple competing facets of Christianity and Smith was unsure which to join. To answer his question, God and Jesus Christ told him not to join any of the churches, but to restore the one true church. After Jesus s crucifixion, Latter day Saints believe the original church fell after followers argued over his teachings leading to the loss of his true message. Later, Smith was visited by an angel named Moroni, who announced the existence of two gold plates for him to find. The plates were in an unknown language so, through God s assistance, Smith translated the plates into English. Once they had been translated, the plates were taken back by the angel. The translation of the plates came to be known as the Book of Mormon, which is the groundwork of the church for Latter day Saints. Smith and his followers, due to the hostility from the local population in New York, left to settle westward where they could practice their religion freely. Along the journey, Smith was murdered by a mob for his religious beliefs, but his follower continued on and settled in Utah. On February 14th, I interviewed Kevin Anderson at The ... • 44. Examples Of Observation Report Daycare During my observations, I noticed the daycare staff did an amazing job taking a holistic approach towards the children s wellness. The teacher made sure the children had good health and nutrition. The educator made the kids wash their hands before eating snacks. They had to sing their ABC s while do it, so they would wash their hands long enough. Each childparticipated in a physical activity while in the open area, called the bicycle room. The children were taking turns riding the bicycles. That presented the teacher made sure the kids were healthy and physical. While I was observing I had a slight cold, but the children did not. It amazed me that out of all the children who was there, not one kid was sick. For lunch the children had oranges, pizza, and chocolate milk. The teachers feed the children a snack about every two hours, and they eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The daycare I observed at succeeded at doing that. The teacher knew each child s strengths and weaknesses. At that place, there were a few children who did not want to be active and participate in the bicycle room. The teacher knew which kids did not want to play, and he demonstrated what they can do and encouraged them to be involved. For instance, this one boy wanted to sit and watch, but the teacher said, Hey Bentley, why don t you ride this bike? • 45. How Did Humanism Influence Titian Art How humanism changed artists paintings: An analysis of Titian s work during the 16th century Ashmini Shiwbalak The High Renaissance was a period of Italian painting that had the qualities of harmony and balance with dignified, calm movement. The present study will focus on the development of early sixteen century Venetian paintings by Titian during the High Renaissance. I ve chosen Gallery 607 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art because it has the work of Titian, who was one of the greatest Venetian artists, well known for his remarkable use of color and for his appealing renderings of the human form. Titian created rich, luminous images by layering oil paint onto canvas. However, like many of the Renaissance painters, Titian showed an interest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanists were more curious about life in the present and focused on the achievements of the individual. Hence, instead of religious issues, humanists examined worldly subjects that the ancient Greeks and Romans had studied. This led the people of the Renaissance to become interested in other areas of science, the natural world, biology and astronomy. Mazzocco goes on to list some of the effects that humanism had on Renaissance paintings. Firstly, ordinary people grew to be the same size as saints in paintings and saints began to look more like ordinary people. Secondly, halos became fainter and eventually disappeared. Thirdly, the natural landscape began to appear as a background in paintings, unlike the middle ages when artists represented figures of heaven against a gold background. Fourthly, artists became famous for their work, and the human body was depicted in anatomical accuracy, and frequently nude. The perfect human type had proportions, muscular structure, oval face, triangular forehead, straight nose, and balance with the weight on one hip. Lastly, the use of mathematical perspective to represent three dimensional space in paintings was invented. Mazzocco s book stresses how humanism changed art and thus, artists like Titian adopted these changes and used them in his paintings during that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Abigail Adams Rhetorical Analysis Abigail Adams constructs a well composed letter to her beloved son John Quincy Adams in order to support and advice John Adam. The letter is written in the twelfth of January 1780 when John Adam was traveling abroad with his fate. The tone of Abigail Adams can be best described as being gentle and complimentary. Furthermore, the purpose of Abigail Adams was to advise John Adam concerning the future of his nation and to advise him on how to take charge of his country. Throughout the affectionate letter, Abigail Adams uses parallel structure, similes, pathos, and alludes to figures from history. In the third paragraph of the sensible letter, Abigail Adams begins by using a simile to compare and motivate her son John Adams about how he should work diligently and steadily. Abigail Adams recalls an author compares a judicious traveler to a river, that increases its stream the further it flows from its source. (paragraph 3 line 15 20) Furthermore, the use of simile indicates that Abigail Adams wants John Adams to make a good representation of his country and acquire wisdom from his experiences. • 47. The Effects of Culture on the Economic Development of Cities Thorough analytic research on the impacts of culture risks are hampered by complexity of such concepts of art and culture. Culture is by no means easy to master. There are major obstacles in efforts to streamline the information for the economic impacts of culture. In most general terms, culture is defined as set of beliefs and values, shared way of doing and understanding things which ties a community and is formed by the development of that community. Apart from art and heritage cultureincludes tradition and religious, way of life, human rights and values. In this project we are concerned with effects of those cultural activities on the patterns of economic development of cities. Two analyses have become accepted in the academics. First, we will consider culture as a product, which raises questions regarding the production, the consumption and the economic value of culture as well as cultural use as a tool for urban generation and place marketing. This is category is more closely to the tangible elements of culture. Second, culture as a process which leads to creative thinking to distinctive patterns of social organization and economic growth. This covers intangible aspects. Here, culture is conceived to be cultural activities in broad sense. Activities incorporated within culture are those dealing with production, dissemination and trading and for education. Leaders are few and far between in Hilliard, and I believe that with enough leaders, heroincan be overcome through effective and intentional leadership. • 50. The Role Of Women In Persepolis In the distance, chaos builds and guns are shot. By standing up for their rights, people are dying in riots. These riots were about women. All around the world, women are treated differently. The graphic novel, Persepolis, enlightens readers about the Islamic Revolution and how women were treated during that time. Because the author was young when she experienced the Islamic Revolution, the novel is in the perspective of her as a little girl. In the book No God But God, readers are educated about Muhammads views of women and the religionof Islam. The Islam depicted in Persepolis differs from Muhammad s original vision of Islam by treating women as inferior to men while Muhammad s vision treats women as equals. In the novel Persepolis, men objectify women, because they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the men, women were commanded to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin with the exception of their face. The Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays that excite men. That is why women should cover their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no longer wear what they wanted, they felt oppressed and degraded. The regime cruelly enforced the rule by telling their citizens that it would protect women from all potential rapists since women were so exposed. In the novel, Marji s mom s car broke down, so Marji and her dad went to pick her up. When they saw her, she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. The Pros And Cons Of Modern Censorship Duy Nguyen 10/26/17 Prof. Ferrier Watson ENGL 1302 Modern Censorship What is censorship? Censorship means the process to examine a work, a piece of art, etc... in order to suppress or delete any object in it that may seem objectionable or harmful. But why is there censorship? Writing has always been a risky venture, fraught with ethical, political and financial pitfalls. If we look at the history of the world writing, we can see that it is filled with examples of censorship in many aspects ( political, social, personal ) and the authors of those writing have often risked much for the sake of their written words and for the sake of their readers. So is censorship right or wrong? To me, however, I think that there is no clear answer to that question, for censorship has its fair balance of advantages and disadvantages to its certain limit. A lot of people said censorship is right, cause it keeps the young generation safe from the words that might ruin their mind, but some said censorship is unnecessary because of it just words and sooner or later all kids will hear and know what those words mean. In my opinion, some part of censorship is good but it depends on the limit that is taken and how extreme censorship goes. I do agree with one advantage that most people also agree about is that censorship helps protects the young, the innocent and the vulnerable. It is built on the premise that we don t always know what is good for us, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
