A Choko Hazzard Essay For Kids
A Choking Hazzard Giving your four week old brother a jelly bean is not acceptable. My
brothers favorite color is red because of a small indecent with a jelly bean. Well it was a huge
issue that could have potentially been life changing, so not so small. Children, especially
babies, shouldn t eat jelly beans for choking hazard reasons. And I learned that at five years old
the hard way. My mom was on an important phone call and my brother began to wail. Screaming
so loud you would have thought he was injured. Being the huge help I tried to be, I went to rock
the basinet. He still was not content, wanting up. My mom came to get him allowing me to sit on
the couch and hold him. I ask my mom if he could have my last red jellybean, not realizing in my
five year old mind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She hung up on the call she still was on hold with and began frantically patting his back. She
raised me living with her parents and my dad was at work, so for the first time in either of her
kids lives she was alone with no vehicle. She flipped him upside down hoping gravity would lead
it back down the path it went down in. When gravity failed her she tried digging it out again.
Still, no progress. With her mind fogged with worry common sense took the back burner and
she decided to walk with a choking baby 2 blocks to my Papaw s, her dads, small engine repair
shop. She tossed him on the bed to get dressed and a small, now clear, jellybean came out.
RyeLee began to come back from blue purple to a strawberry red. He was inconsolable from,
what my mom thought, being traumatized from the horrific in counter he had to go through.
Really he was just hungry and after a bottle he calmed. My mom took him to the doctor and they
cleared him from any trauma in his windpipe. The event only lasted a few minutes but it felt like
hours. I was never allowed to eat around him again. And until I was old enough to buy them
myself, I never ate

Comparison of the Poems, Two Scavengers and Nothing s Changed
Nothings Changed was written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, a mixed race child with fair skin, who was
later adopted by a white South African family who brought him up as though he was white, and he
only found out about his origins as a teenager. Tatamkhulu lived in a multi cultural area called
District Six, which was destroyed by the white authorities. He feels strongly about this kind of
racism towards the black people despite the fact that he has fair skin. In the actual poem, the poet is
telling the story from his own experiences in first person. Two Scavengers was written by Lawrence
Ferlinghetti. The poem highlights the differences between rich and poor and the ... Show more

The poem doesn t state any other relationships, besides the contrast between the white people and
the black people. This gives me the impression that both sides stick to their own , either due to the
partite or difference of race.
Two Scavengers is set at some traffic lights in downtown San
Francisco at 9am. The whole poem is based around a freeze frame in time. The poet gives very
little description to the setting of the poem, and instead focuses mainly on the two working
classes, to get the point across. Socially, I think the Bin Men, or Garbage Men as they are called
in the piece as this the poet is an American, aren t very well respected compared to the couple in
the Mercedes. In the poem it says, ...and looking down into... as if to say that the Bin Men were
looking down on the posh couple, this is but a bit role reversal between both sides. Bin Men
have a lonely, smelly and dark job and most of the time are seen as stupid people, so therefore
are taken advantage of. The poem makes me think this by saying, Grungy from their route . This
particular quote gives us the impression that their job is very physical, dirty and smelly, which
could possibly be linked to the hot climate, which again could add to the discomfort of the job.
The couple in the Mercedes have a respectable job, are clean and are seen as clever and better off
than many. I think this because the poem describes them as an, elegant couple and cool

The Savior Sibling s Role In The Family
Since 2001, after the first successful use of In vitro fertilization (IVF) and Preimplantation
genetic diagnosis (PGD) to create a perfect match for a sibling who needs a transplant, Savior
Siblings had been a subject of ethical debates. PGD uses in vitro fertilization (IVF) to permit
testing of embryos for single gene disorders such as FA and human leukocyte antigen (HLA)
type. This technology has been used by some couples with affected children to conceive a child
(sometimes referred to as savior child ) whose umbilical cord or bone marrow could be used as
donor cells for an affected sibling. (594) There had been questions as to whether the savior sibling
is treated fairly and if they are being given the same rights as any human being... Show more content

Being Savior siblings mean they were created for the purpose of donating to their siblings. They
will have to donate to give no matter what. Younger children most likely do not comprehend what
is happening. They do not understand what is being done to them or what is being taken away
from them. However, older children, in the preoperative phase can usually comprehend and have
the capability to participate in their care and decision making. Therefore, even when a consent
cannot be given by a child, assent should be sought. ...Assent is an interactive process in which
physicians reveal information and patients share their values, until the two parties reach joint
decisions. (282) Because of their status as Savior Siblings, created to give and donate, they will
undergo procedures even if they wouldn t want to. Just as any human beings have the right to
refuse medical procedures, they should have that right to. Also, everyone has the right to have their
wishes heard. Everyone has the right to participate in their health care and medical decisions.
Children who have the capacity to participate in these should be encouraged to do so whether they

Democracy Is Better Than A Democracy
Being part of a democracy means that the majority will prevail over the minority with no written
constitution or rules to keep the minority from being over powered. Where as a republic has a
written constitution for rules that are used to keep the majority from overpowering the minority.
Just defining these two words one can say being apart of a republic seems more fair than a
democracy, since there are rules that everyone must follow to keep everything fair and just. In
this day in age it just seems that the rules are pushed aside and either party that is in charge can
just do as they please. If our way of life were actually followed by the constitutionI am all for being
a republic. But we all know that it isn t something that is followed all the time no matter what.
So let s find out which one is better than the two a democracy or a republic. So we know from
above that a democracy is run by the majority, that means if the majority likes it then it will be
followed by all. If the majority does not agree with it then it will be taken away just as easily as
it was given. In a democracy all people are allowed to take a vote on laws that will govern them.
It is like asking your family if they want fish or chicken for dinner and of course the majority
vote wins and that is what everyone will eat for dinner. Anyone that is a minority does not have
the power to practice their religion of choice, dress, way of living or many other things that make a
person who they are if the

Peer Group Importance
The formation of peer groups is important because it can impact a student s focus and desire to
learn. In Promoting Harmony, the authors described the social and emotional changes that
young adolescents go through and how teachers can acknowledge that change in the classroom
(Strahan, LEsperance, Hoose, 2001, p.61 62). Many young adolescent students are in the
difficult process of developing their own personal and social identity during middle school.
Young adolescent students are usually vulnerable, so it is common for them to form peer
groups with people they have things in common with. When a student cannot find a peer group
to join, it seems to him or her like the whole world is over and they are all alone. As teachers, it
is important to recognize when a student feels out of place and to make every student feel like
they belong. Peer groups are also important to study because they can persist outside of the
classroom and even outside of the school. Many peer groups can be seen roaming malls, movie
theaters, or skating rinks, usually just talking, gossiping, or playing on their phone. It is an
interesting phenomenon that the majority of students, especially in middle school, all share the
same desire to fit in or belong to a group. If someone is not invited to a birthday party or a
sleepover, it can be a huge deal to a middle school student. Struggles with peer groups and fitting in
can turn into serious problems for students and can possibly even lead to depression,

The Terror Of The Islamic State
In the aftermath of a violent event, people often ask, Why? However, the question of what
motivates people to both engage in and support violence remains a puzzle and is the subject of
much debate. Within that broader question, there is a particular lack of understanding of how
groups with extreme views that support violencemotivate supporters. The Islamic State (also
referred to as ISIS or ISIL) is perhaps the most salient terrorist group today in light of recent, high
profile attacks such as those in Belgium and Paris. However, Islamist ideology is not the only
threat. Domestic right wing groups can also motivate violent action on their behalf. The recent
occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge by an armed group led by Ammon Bundy brought renewed
media attention to right wing militiamovements. The Three Percenters, their name referring to the
supposed 3% of the colonists who took up arms in the American Revolution, are one such militia
group. They are primarily motivated by the preservation of private gun ownership and are preparing
to resist any perceived threats to their constitutional rights.
There is a rapidly growing literature on this process of radicalization. Though there is no single
cause, and violent behavior does not necessarily follow radical attitudes that support the use of
violence (Neumann 2013; Leuprecht et al. 2010), little is known regarding the actual causal
mechanisms (Silke 2008). In the media and popular discussion, the Internet is often cited

Jeune Syndrome Disease
Jeune syndrome is a rare inherited disease that has a significant impact on infants and small
children. As a result of this disease infants with this condition usually experiences difficulty
breathing, kidney abnormalities, and other life threatening issues. Antenatal examination is
possible by ultrasound but specific diagnosis is difficult and seemingly impossible. Individuals
are diagnosed at birth after careful observation of the limbs and chest area. Patients usually die
from respiratory failure because of a very small chest and repeated respiratory infections (Phillips
and Van Aalst 2008). There is not a lot that can be done for patients with Jeune syndrome because
scientists are still in the process of obtaining knowledge about the initial cause and ways to prevent
the mutation (Phillips and Van Aalst 2008). It is understood that because this is autosomal
recessive disease, meaning both parents must be carriers.
When it comes to Jeune syndrome the primary problem rose from the disruption of proteins found
in the cilia. The cilia is known as the hair like structures that protrude from the cell membrane and
is responsible for moving the cell they are attached to or moving the liquid that is adjacent to the
cell (Miller et al 2013). Very few people view the cilia as a signaling hub which contains the
noncanonical Wingless (WNT), Hedgehog, and platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) signalling
systems, and their disruption leads to striking developmental defects (Wang et al

Famous Artist Stereotypes Essay
Stereotypes are well known among humans and many of us have been faced with the criticism of
such stereotypes. One of the most well known stereotypes is those belonging to famous artists.
These stereotypes come from many of the movies created about such artists. Some believe that
famous artists are someone people that are abnormal or odd in their way of thinking or actions.
When asked what comes into someone s mind when asked about famous artists may also be how
they are not famous until death. Along with these beliefs, people believe that artists have a very
active sex life. Through media, these stereotypesare true but in all actuality, they are not correct.
When thinking about famous artists, many people believe that they all suffer from some type of
mental illness. Van Gogh is an example of the stereotype. Seventy days after Vincent moves to
Auvers sur Oise and under the care of Dr. Gachet, he dies from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Many know the artist to be quite ill mentally along with the fact of Van Gogh cutting his own ear
off. The man is known to have had many doctors by his side, checking ... Show more content on

well known male artist. Though she is married, Berthe is driven in her career to become a well

To believe or not to believe that is the question....
To believe or not to believe that is the question. Robertson Davies depicts a novel in which two
opposing characters strive for self completion. The journey of completing one s self is one of Jung
s archetypes. According to Jung, completing both the body and soul lies within the characteristics
of the psyche. The psyche is composed of three parts: the collective unconscious, ego and the
personal unconscious. The collective unconscious is what people come into this world knowing,
how children are shaped as adults through their childhood experiences and parental influences. The
ego is the image people believe they are. It is this image which people pursue through the rest of
their lives until they achieve self completion. Lastly, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

experiencing a blow of shrapnel. Seeing Mrs. Dempster as a Madonna shows how much respect
Ramsay has for women. Staunton on the other hand sees women just as physical objects as he
sees many of the other things in his life. A man with my physical needs can t be tied down to
one woman especially not a woman who doesn t see sex as a partnership who doesn t give

has cheated on his girlfriends or wives. He does not respect women at all compared to Ramsay
who sees Mrs. Dempster as a saint. Staunton s capitalist and materialistic ideas are never made
clearer than at the point where he decides to leave his father. He was going to be a very rich man
richer than his father by far and he was getting ready (Davies 105). Having grown up in a rich

How Did Plato Contribute To Geometry
Plato and Archimedes: Two Great Mathematicians of All Time
Plato is one of the greatest mathematicians and teachers of geometry to ever live. To some, he is
known as the maker of math. He himself made an academy that stressed mathematics as a way of
understanding reality. He founded this academy in 387 BCE. According to one website, ... he was
convinced that geometry was the key to unlocking the secrets to the universe. Plato had many
contributions in mathematics and geometry that helped in the past and still help in the present.
One thing that Plato did, that he probably best known for, is his identification of 5 3D
symmetrical shapes. The 5 shapes were: the tetrahedron, the octahedron, the cube, the
icosahedron, and the dodecahedron. The tetrahedron, which Plato represented as fire, is made of
4 triangles. The octahedron, which Plato represented as air, is made of 8 triangles. The
icosahedron, which is what Plato represents as water, is made of 20 triangles. The cube,
represented as earth according to Plato, is made of 6 squares. The dodecahedron, which Plato
describes it as the god used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abstract
According to the FBI (2007) the Beltway Snipers was a series of random murders that had
occurred around the Washington D.C. area during the month of October in 2002. The case was
closely studied and investigated by the Montgomery County Police Department and was led by
Chief Charles Moose with additional help from other government services such as the FBI. The
identities of these two men were discovered due to clues that were purposely left behind by the
perpetrators. Their names were John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo. During this time in
history, these two names were known to strike fear in people s hearts and make people think
twice about going outside and continuing their regular day to day activities. In the end, both of
Malvo and Muhammad were charged with life in prison, but Muhammad was also charged with
the death penalty. Today, only Malvo is still alive and now realizes the wickedness of the crimes
he committed. This paper is not only going to introduce you to the Beltway Snipers, but also help
you become more aware of the reasons as to why they did this, all of the victims that were
involved, and the significance of this case as a whole.

The value and role of knowledge is different in every culture but good basic education is essential
in every culture. Primary and secondary education in UK (up to 16) is compulsory for all
children. However, there were a limited number of high quality schools and these are
oversubscribed application. That created problem of distributing pupils between schools (Hurst

of basic education. The purpose of writing this report is to argue for the reliability and

(c). General Problem Solving A test of general knowledge, assessing the ability to apply logic to
simple problems (Simon, 1991). This 11 plus examination was replaced by a non selective
system on all local education authorities (LEAs) governed by 1976 Education Act. Non selective
system means the provision of education in any school where arrangements for the admission of
pupils to the school are based on selection wholly or mainly by reference to ability or aptitude for
music or dancing (Trowler, 2003).In the 1980 Education Act parents were given right to choose
the school they wanted (though LEAs could refuse on grounds of inefficient use of resources

education legislation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Scottish education legislation is
separate from that of the rest of the UK.) enabled existing maintained schools to opt out of LEAs

framework for schools (to be implemented from 2000) with community schools replacing county
schools and foundation schools replacing GM schools (Trowler, 2003). The latest act Academies

The First Few Years Of Young Childrenв
Ђ™S Lives Are Very
The first few years of young children s lives are very critical to their overall development
because new learning is happening every day, either during time spent with a teacher or parent.
When children are four years old, they are with a teacher full time or part time. That teacher is a
professional individual who plays an active role in children s early childhooddevelopment and has a
genuine desire to help them learn, grow and succeed in their education. These are just a few roles
that early childhood educators play in the field of early childhood education, working with young
children in their early childhood years of life.
The requirements for becoming a teacher vary from state to state. In New York State, teachers must

That answer got me thinking. All of her answers gave me advice about how to be a great
kindergarten teacher down the line.
Standard one, promoting child development and learning, means that a teacher of young children
must have an understanding of the characteristics and needs of young children as well as an
understanding the many influences on young children (relationships with their families, their
health, their learning styles, their opportunity to play) and use this understanding of children s
development and learning to create learning environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive,
and challenging for all children. Standard two, building family and community relationships means
that a teacher must understand the importance and complex characteristics of children s families
and communities. Teachers can then create respectful, reciprocal relationships that support families,
and involve families in their children s development and learning. Standard three is knowing how to
observe, document, and assess in order to support young children and families. Teachers must
understand the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment. They must also know how to use systematic
observations, documentation, and other assessment strategies in a responsible way, for the purpose
of positively influencing children s development. Standard four is knowing

surfaces were incubated with 20 Вµg/mL biotinylated antibody which was isotype matched to the
primary antibody. Antibody attachment was performed immediately before experimentation
followed by PBST (PBS with 0.05% Tween 20) wash and blocking with 1% (w/ v) bovine serum
albumin in PBST for 1 h. Reversibly Sealed Easy Access Modular (SEAM) Platform Integration
PMMA housings (L=45 mm, W=30 mm), McMaster Carr) were designed in AutoCAD and cut
with a CO2 laser. Individually cut layers (1.5 2 mm) were laminated together using pressure
sensitive adhesive films to create rigid plastic housings containing L=25 mm, W=10 mm, H=1.5
mm cavities PDMS pieces containing the microfluidic channels (top) and the flexible
nanotextured or plain PDMS surfaces (bottom). Laser cut holes at the four corners accommodated
cylindrical rare earth magnets (K J Magnetics, 2.54 mm diameter, thickness=1.58 mm) which
were then glued in place. Rare earth magnets were embedded in the PMMA and oriented such
that the top and bottom housings had opposite magnetic poles facing one another to achieve a
simple and self aligned latching mechanism. The housings compressed the top PDMS channel
against the PDMS capture surface and achieved a leak proof seal (Figure 3.5(b)). Magnetic
latching allowed the SEAM platform to be easily sealed and resealed as needed. The tubing was
connected to the channel using a barbed fitting (McMaster), and a syringe pump was used to
control fluid flow (Harvard Apparatus). The magnetic latching mechanism was sufficient to create a
seal that could withstand the maximum

Issues of identity, racial division, and persecution have always been associated with the
experience of being a colored person in the United States of America. The history of segregation
and racism have changed the views, ideas, and point of views we have on black communities

still need to be solved. To approach the influence of these colonial eras and slaveryatrocities, Dr.

Changes in Art History with Emphasis on the Mid Twentieth Century
Art during the mid twentieth century contained some of the most important changes art history.
These explosive times were counter balanced with explosive popular culture.
More historical events, abrupt changes, and turbulence occurred from the end of World War II until
the height of the Vietnam War than in any time period. Before this time, styles of art had lasted
generations. In the 1960 s numerous important art movements were happening at the same time.
There were variations on variations, movements inside of other movements. Therefore, because of
the amount of independent and integrated pieces of movements and styles, a lot can be missed in a

For the most part, abstract expressionism attracted the American public with its simple methods
and spontaneous appearance and more so because it was an entirely American art movement. With
most of Europe at war and in recovery during the 1940 s, Americans were left with the principal
responsibility of developing art. Abstract expressionism was, therefore, the first movement to
originate in the United States. During the war in the times of chaos that existed in the world,
America met the challenge of being the leader in art and developing their own movement which
would span the 1940 s and the 1950 s.
One of the most important artists in abstract expressionism was Jackson Pollack (see appendix
A). Pollack s work runs throughout the span of the movement. The famous method of action
painting which Pollack developed was much like the times he, and the other artists who practiced
this method, lived in. While there appears to be chaos in the erratic and loose placement of paint
and strokes, there is still a great sense of the pieces being defined and controlled . The abstract
expressionists thought of their paintings as living things. In Jackson Pollack s My Painting , from
1947, he says, The source of my painting is the unconscious . The world around Pollack and all
world citizens at this point was chaotic communism was running rampant, war had ripped

Society s Role In Polynesian Culture
In Polynesian Culture, there are three aspects that play a major role in this culture. These
aspects are: Economy, Food and Arts. Economy is exploring the state of a particular country in
terms of the consumption production of goods and services and the supply of money. This also
explores what Samoa exports and imports and their main source of income. Food is the
traditional or types of meal that the local people of a particular society have often. Arts are the
traditional drawings or artworks that the people of a society have. The Polynesian society that I
have chosen is Samoa. Samoa is an independent nation and is located at about 2,500 miles
southwest of Hawaii and about 1,800 miles northeast of New Zealandin Oceania.

Tattooing is found widely on Samoan men and women. According to Polynesian Cultural Center,
man s tattoo is called a pe a while a woman s tattoo is called a malu. A tattoo is the act or practise of

inserting pigments. Tattoo is traditional to the Samoan culture and is used by people to help tell a
personal story or something that mean a lot to a Samoan person. Samoans also have a particular
painting techniques as they have there own idea of painting. There idea of painting is where
patterns or pictures are painted on with a natural brown dye taken from a tree. These pictures
typically depict abstract and realistic depictions of plant life, shells, fish, turtles, and flowers.
They like to depict natural items such as shells as in Samoa they respect everything and take
everything for granted. This is a important aspect as it is very unique style as people think art is
just painting on a canvas or drawing on paper but the Samoa s idea is completely unique and

Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti Analysis
On August 23, 1927, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in one of the most iconic
and infamous trials in American history. Since that date, historians have argued on the attitudes
surrounding this case that gained global attention throughout the 1920s. Immediately following the
execution of these Italian anarchists, the liberal public expressed outrage and contempt for the
verdict. Felix Frankfurter, in 1927 wrote a piece entitled, The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti, which
dug into the injustices of the court. Frankfurter was appalled at how the justice system conducted
the hearing. It is suggested that the judicial system jumped to conclusions, with a complete
disregard for any evidence. Similarly. E.M. Morgan, an attorney of law, wrote an article for the
Yale University Press, The Law of Evidence: Some Proposals for its Reform, also in 1927. This
piece scrutinized the lack of evidence, the fabricated plots, and the mismatched witness testimonies

The alleged innocence of Sacco and Vanzetti was heavily scrutinized by American conservatives
since the 1920s, though earlier critiques on the character of these suspects was primarily due to
xenophobic sentiments towards Italians following the mob and prohibition in the 1920s. The Cold
War rekindled feelings of uncertainty towards the Sacco and Vanzetti trial. With the American
values of capitalism and democracy under siege, fewer Americans sympathized with anarchists in
the United States. Although many did not dispute that the court case of Sacco and Vanzetti was
mishandled, many still vocalized that the court was just in its sentencing, since Americans likened
the threat of communism to other perceived domestic threats, namely anarchism in the United
States. The 1950s and 1960s were a period of mass hysteria surrounding alternate governing

The Complexities Of God In The Books Of The Bible
Within the Western theistic tradition, the Christian God is conceived as a mysterious, supreme
deity that is the only being worth of worship because He is something than which nothing greater
can be conceived (Anslem 1033 1109). This God is the great architect of the universe whom
represents the depth and complexities of human experiences. Such mystery is why writing about
Godis essentially writing about the complexities of human beings. This inconceivably complex
God was researched in numerous biblical books within both the Old and New Testament over the
lapse of this fall semester. Interpreting these books of the Biblearoused a plethora of questions such
as what is God like and how is God portrayed to others according to these books?... Show more

This is why understanding God is not a simple task. In order to delineate Him, His attributes can
describe Him. Christianity organizes the attributes of God so that they are easier to understand.
Amongst all the Bible s depictions of God s attributes, the three characteristics of God that are
essential to further understand Him describe God as omnipotent, merciful, and as a leader.
Christians understand and believe that God possesses qualities of omnipotence as the sole
creator and ruler of the universe. God is believed to have all the power for the benefit of
mankind and can create anything out of nothing. God demonstrates characteristics of such
omnipotent power throughout the Old Testament by the nature of His creations and His word in
the scriptures. In the book of Genesis 1:1 31, God created the heavens, the earth, and mankind in
his own image. These biblical passages are a direct indication that He is truly capable of doing
anything because the religious standard of the goodness of creation was possible since
everything good came from Him. God s Word in the Scripture is exemplified in Exodus with a
special revelation when He appears in front of Moses in the form of a burning bush. God told
him to lead the Israelites, His people, out of enslavement in Egypt to the promised land. When the
Egyptian Pharaoh refused to obey, Moses through the power of God releases 10 plagues upon the
land of Egypt that finally liberates the Israelites. God s Words were so powerful

Structure And Composition Of Atmosphere
Structure and Composition of Atmosphere
Earth is the only planet in the solar system known to harbour life. Our planet s rapid spin and
molten nickel iron core give rise to an extensive magnetic field, which, along with the atmosphere,
shields us from nearly all of the harmful radiation coming from the Sun and other stars. Earth s
atmosphere protects us from meteors, most of which burn up before they can strike the surface.
Nitrogen and Oxygen are the predominant gases in the atmosphere, accounting for about 99
percent of dry air. While 1 percent is mixture of all other gases make up the remaining 1 percent.
All the gases found in the atmosphere are natural except CFCs (invented by Thomas Midgley, Jr.

A Short Note On Oklahoma Race Riots And The Black Wall Street

Tulsa Race Riots
On May 31 June 1, 1921, a series of actions occurred in Greenwood, a small district in the northern
parts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, which are now called the Tulsa race Riots.
Being a segregated city like the rest of Oklahoma, many of Tulsa s African American citizens
resided in Greenwood an area composed of predominately African Americancommunities and
business locations. The discovery of oil is the number one reason why Tulsa s economy flourished.
There was an abundance of wealthy African Americans due to of this discovery. Because of the
affluence and success within the African American community going on in this one particular area,
it became known as the Black Wall Street.
The whole chain of events began on May 30, 1921 when Dick Rowland, a young black man,
allegedly assaulted a white elevator operator. Rowland was arrested the next day. However, outside
the courthouse a group of raging whites gathered to attempt to lynch Rowland while a group of
African Americans were protecting him to prevent the hanging. With the signal of one unintentional
gunshot, many others rang out leaving some from both groups dead. With word getting around
town of the riot, many angered whites stormed into the Greenwood District. Residencies were set
on fire and many businesses were looted and burned to the ground. Planes also flew by dropping
bombs in the area. With law enforcement on the whites side, the officers were also a part of the
riot. The National Guard was

Blind Faith in Cat s Cradle, by Kurt Vonnegut
In current society, critical thinking can be sparse. It is unusual that people question the traditions
they have grown up with. Although this ignorance can be safe and simple, its outcome is ultimately
problematic. In the satire Cat s Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut proves that undiscerning belief in anything
will inevitably end in tragedy. Vonnegut demonstrates this using sensitive topics such as Science
and Religion.
In the present day, society depends on Science greatly; it supplies jobs, provides technology

mornings was great for me because I didn t really know what I wanted to go to school for and

Gender, Gender And The Media
This book was written in a clear style with lots of instances from Anglo American media, Gender
and the Media. It provides a critical introduction to the study of gender in the media and updated
assessment of the crucial issues and debates. The book looks in detail at five kinds of media:
news, advertising, talk shows, magazines and contemporary screen and paperback romances. It is
examined how presentations of female and male are changing in recent years. Gill asks how useful
nations such as objectification, backlash and positive images are for making sense of genderin today
s western media.
Gender and the Media asks some of the significant terminology that have been used to study gender
in media texts, since scholars and activists first engaged with media representations of gender. This
book aims to explore how the media today construct femininity, masculinity and gender relations.
Digital media and gender are different topics, but they have close connection in society. Digital
media is one of the main types of media, it can be created, viewed, distributed, modified on
digital electronics devices. It plays a significant role in society and culture, and also it can cause
dramatic influences on human s lives. Gender is usually seen as a socially determined difference
based upon the biological differences between the sex. These representations of media can
influence the general public s perception of the different genders. Sexting is a prevalent hot spot in

My Philosophical Statement Of Inclusion

The notion of inclusion is progressively being accepted as a vital method of learning in our growing
school systems. I believe that every student, those with and without exceptionalities, have the right
to be included in a general education classroom. Students with learning, social and behavioral
exceptionalities or varied abilities deserve the right to be provided with the same opportunities as
any other students in the regular general education classroom. The information that I have acquired

Both children with and without exceptionalities learn with and from each other. Also, since both
children with and without exceptionalities are expected to learn to write, read, and do math; higher
expectations can be set and with good instruction children with exceptionalities can excel in these
academic skills.
I also believe that a key element of inclusion is maintaining a close relationship between me and the
special education teachers and paraprofessionals that I will be working with. If it is at all possible
to work together in one classroom, I believe that this will benefit all my students.
I hope to embrace all parts of every student and include all different types of learners as I create
my future classroom. As future and hopeful elementary education teacher I want to give every child
the opportunity to be a part of my classroom.
A Plan to Identify Social, Emotional, and Academic needs
The first part in having a successful inclusive classroom is to identify the social, emotional and
academic needs of all students and meet them. The first thing I would do is to review the student
file to see what has been done or not done in the past. This will give any indication if past needs
or behaviors have been identified or if they have just started. Collecting data will be important here
because I will need a complete and clear picture of students strengths and challenges, so that

fought to death in order to win the important soccer league because neither of the teams made it to
the final game before. They always face each other during the knockout games which made them
rivals. Finally, the beauty of the game also had an effect for why the match took place to be played

Dietary Supplement Essay
Walking through a strip mall, the allure of a GNC or a Vitamin Shoppe can be hard to resist. Enter
through the front doors and get lost in wall to wall shelves of products addressing health concerns
so obscure that even the most neurotic hypochondriac would feel at ease. There are probiotics,
herbal therapies, bodybuilding supplements, smart pills, beverage infusions, vitamins and minerals,
you name it. The products on these shelves represent the fruits of a thirty billion dollar industry that
capitalizes on consumers desire to aspire beyond good healthinto the illusive realm of wellness
however that is defined (Reinberg, 2015). The logic fueling this desire makes sense: given so many
options to choose from, there must be something that will make life even healthier and happier than
it already is. This logic is both true and false at the same time. While there are a range of dietary
supplements catering to a range of health needs, it is important to understand the facts behind them
and how to distinguish effective products from useless ones. By considering science, avoiding
marketing gimmicks, and moderating consumption, consumers can use dietary supplements in
ways that could have life changing health benefits. Regulating your own consumption of dietary
supplements based on independent research is extremely important, because unlike food and drugs,
the government will not shoulder this responsibility for you. This policy can be traced back to
legislation from just before

Analysis Of The Ravishing Of Lol Stein
Analyzing the Liberation of Lol Stein
Through searching inside the haze one will find their true self. In the book The Ravishing of Lol
Stein by Marguerite Duras, the main character, Lol Stein, goes through a journey to express her
true personality. In the passage, Lol has an affair with the narrator, Jack Hold, which shows her
transition as a person the most. Her internal transition into becoming an entirely different person is
highlighted by the author s use of repetition, diction, symbolism, and dialogue.
The repetition of the passage shows the confusion linked to Lol s transition. The repeated use of
rhetorical questions show the perplexity of Lol s transition. In the passage, the narrator says who is
there in the bed? Who does she think she is? The open endedness of the rhetorical question forces
the audience to evaluate Lol s present mental state. Due to the questions being rhetorical, no
answers are given leaving the audience in a state of confusion with little evidence to help identify
Lol. Later, the narrator asks another rhetorical question asking who was it before me? The question
calls for the audience to intervene again and think about who Lol was as a person now but he
immediately shuts the question down by saying I don t care. This shows he has no interest in the
transition of Lol. Though the situation is confusing, he carries on as if everything is the same.
Another point where the repetition provided insight was when the author stated she insulted

Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary
In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story,
for it is something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith ,
Marx is seen struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good
Country People , Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t
accurate. Identity can be formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion,
and etc. This is basic sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that
chooses to be influenced. An individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an
individual can t choose his or her biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to
call mom and dad. One can even argue that an individual can be identified by the choices he or
she have turned down. There are many influences to form an identity, yet it is the individual who
ultimately forms his or her identity based on the influences he or she chose. Marx is seen
struggling with his identity in Defender of the Faith , for he has allowed himself to be identified
by his duty, but Grossbart helped Marx rediscover a part of him that he lost during the war. By no
means was Grossbart intending to help Marx, Grossbart was only interested in his own self gain,
but this didn t stop Marx to let his Jewishness out. Grossbart invited Marx to mass one evening and

Describing Dunkirk
Describing Dunkirk From what I have learned about Dunkirk, it is possible to say that it could
have been seen as a victory and also a defeat for the British. When the Second World War first
began in September 1939 Germany had started to invade Poland and as a result of this France
and Britain joined in an alliance and declared war on Germany. By the 10th May 1940 Germany
had begun their invasion of France using the Blitzkrieg Method. On the 20th May Germany had
reached the coast and trapped Britain and France at Dunkirk the only port remaining. Fortunately
Operation Dynamo was approved by Churchill allowing ships to cross the channel and rescue
troops from Dunkirk this was a critical day for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This source shows panic between troops and the Government. This was quite unusual as this
message was given on the most successful day of the evacuation, when 47,081 troops were
brought to safety. This source is quite reliable as the message is written at the time of the
evacuation. The source also shows Churchill excepting an element of defeat, however it doesn t
tell us about the other days of evacuation. As well as these sources there are also other sources
that confirm the theory of Dunkirk being panicked and disorderly. They are written by a British
pilot shot down near Dunkirk, a German fighter pilots account of Dunkirk, Charles Lightoller a
retired sailor and a painting by Charles Cundall an official war artist. As we can see there are
quite a few sources that support this theory. Another aspect of defeat is the loss of troops and
equipment. The BEF had lost and left behind virtually all of its equipment. It had been forced to
abandon 2,472 guns, 90,000 rifles, 63,879 vehicle, 20,548 motorcycles and over 500,000 tons of
stores and ammunition. More importantly 68,000 troops did not make it safely home being killed,
captured or injured. From my research I know that once on a boat, troops were still not safe from
air attack, mines or submarines many ships and boats were sunk or badly damaged whilst

Symbolism In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Use of Symbolism in Their Eyes Were Watching God
Throughout the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, objects and symbols recur. Zora Neale
Hurston s writing is full of metaphors that illustrate the complex concepts that are significant in
the novel. Hurston s compelling use of these symbols help clarify the deeper meaning of Janie s
travels, thoughts, and experiences. The author s tells the story by using copious amounts of
symbols, some of which are Janie s hair, the pear tree, and the horizon. The symbol of Janie s hair
is a strong recurring symbol that gives off many impressions. Janie s hair has strong effect on
almost every character written. The biggest impression her hair gives is a sense of identity and
power. The young girl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The horizon is closely related to the symbol of hopes and dreams. The horizon represents better
things the possibility for change and improvement. The horizon is mentioned in the opening page
of the novel. Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board. For some they come in with the
tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the
watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time (1). The author
compares the hopes and dreams of man to a ship on a sea. The ships that come in with the tide
are ended dreams and the ships that stay sailing on the horizon are the ones that are still believed
in. That is, until the dreamer realizes their dreams and leave, being mocked by the time they had
wasted. Janie s dream sails on the horizon for most of her life. She can wish and hope for better
things but the reality she lives in is very different. At the end of the novel, Janie realizes her
dream. Her wish is to come in with the tide. So Hurston writes that Janie pulled in her horizon like
a great fishnet (193). The author includes this quote to show that Janie had realized her dream. She
pulled it from the ocean to stop it from sailing any further. The horizon is Janie s place for dreams,
as seen throughout the

Relationship Between Science And Religion
The relationship between science and religion is an arguably rigid one, the two topics presently
posing contrasting ideas in modern society. However, this relationship has been varied over the
course of time, in particular the nineteenth century. We can put forth the argument that it was not
necessarily as simple as the two being mutually exclusive concepts that continuously opposed each
other; rather the two held a complicated relationship. These apparent conflicts between scienceand
religioncan often be resultant of more complex debates, for example concerning political power. It
can also be seen that there was a continually shifting boundary between the two subjects, making it
merely reductionist to say the two were in conflict. Science and religion were in conflict to the
extent that both these concepts were adapting to the contemporary world, sometimes causing them
to clash.
During the nineteenth century, religion still remained a prevalent influence in Britain, from which
we can argue that there was no widespread conflict caused by the sciences. Britain was a
predominantly protestant country, with an estimation of attendance being made by Dr Chalmers,
from which he concluded that five eighths, or sixty two and a half per cent., of the people of a
town might attend religious services. The period also saw the revival of the evangelical
movement, from which people believed that religion should inform every aspect of daily life, and
we must spend our lives

War Of 1812 Dbq Essay
The War of 1812
Leading up to 1812, many conflicts occurred that lead up to the War of 1812. After gaining
independence from Great Britain, the United States was still not acknowledged as a country. The
nation was being treated as if it were still a British colony. The most apparent reasons for the War
of 1812 were the French Blockade, Impressment, British Indian Alliances, and War Hawks. The war
of 1812 was the result of many built up tensions between the United States and Great Britain after
America s independence.
In the early 1880s, Britain virtually destroyed the French Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. The
British and French then created opposing policies for the shipment of goods into the Napoleonic
Empire. Napoleon forbid any British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Americans were pressing on in the quest to expand their territory. Native Americans had two
choices, given by Thomas Jefferson. They could either assimilate into American farming society
or be forced to move westward. William Harrison had also been penning tribes against one
another however he found a way. Eventually, the United States gained territory from the Native
Americans and with that lost any favor with them they previously had. With all of the anti British
views in the United States, the British feared an invasion of Canada. In an attempt to prevent such
an action, the British supplied the Native Americans and renewed alliances. This created
problems for American expansion into Florida because of Native American raids and attack with
their new supplies. Being unable to get a hold of Florida was another precedent for war with
Britain because of its ally, Spain. Not only were these conflicts the flame that stated the war, but
there were Congressional powers who wanted a

Tar Sands, By Jon Brownell
Tar Sands EssayJon Brownell The Alberta Tar Sands are large deposits of bitumen,a sticky,
black and viscous semi solid form of petroleum.(Merriam Webster) The bitumen is extracted
from the earth and separated from materials that are not petroleum. This process consumes both
water from the Athabasca River drainage basin and energy. While emissions from the water
used are low the airborne pollutants contain more than 350 kilograms of cancer causing
chemicals every four months.(Kelly) Also, bitumen is one of the least efficient power sources
in the world.(Rapier) The Tar Sands are dangerous for people to live near, are environmentally
damaging and unsustainable and are an inefficient source of power compared to other sources
available in Canada. While the Tar Sands are currently good for the canadian economy, in the
long term they will cost us more than they make. The content of cancer causing chemicals like
PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) is twice as high as the standard recommended by the
national oceanic and atmospheric administration in the United States. These levels have been
observed to cause liver cancer in fish. (Timoney 68) Fish from Lake Athabasca have been found
with deformities other than liver cancer, like lumps or bumps. Cancer levels in people who live in
Fort Chipewyan are much higher than in other parts of the country.(McLachlan 17) The
Government of Canada says that the risk of cancer is small because people do not eat animals from

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Armenia
In this fast changing world, cars seem to play a very significant role. As technology has
developed and improved over time the use of bicycles has decreased. Before the motor vehicle
revolution, bicycles were a great type of transport as they were effective and convenient for their
simplicity of design. In many developed countries people still use bicycles as their main mean of
transportation. It seems that this trend of using bicycles has not reached Armenia and it is
considered as a novelty. The overwhelming majority of people prefer cars to bicycles. There are
many environmental and social issues caused by an increase in the number of cars in Armenia.
Thus, the Armenian government taking measures to encourage cyclingto become a widely used
mode of transportation in Armenia can be beneficial for the country as well as the people.
Encouraging people to use bicycles instead of cars will decrease the ecological and environmental
footprint people have in the country. Riding a bicycle uses no non renewable energy and emits no
pollution. Cars consume a lot of energy and natural resources even before they make it to the
open road. Their production leaves a big footprint because materials like steel, rubber, glass and
paint must be created before the car is ready to be used. The ... Show more content on

An average four cylinder car costs approximately fifteen thousand dollars, whereas an average bike
costs no more than eight hundred dollars or less. Another cost analysis comes into question when
taking into consideration the maintenance costs. Research conducted by the CAA shows that for an
average commute of thirty miles, a driver needs to liberate three hundred dollars a month. This
figure includes insurance, depreciation, gas, oil, tires and other costs. Monthly maintenance for a
bicycle amounts to thirty dollars. Thus, people will be able to save money both on the maintenance
and purchase of the

Our Time Essay
Alex Leen
9/5/12
English 110, 11:00
Final Draft of paper 1 In the essay Our Time by John Edgar Wideman he often takes a break from
the narrative to address that he has many problems as a writer. He does this to try to consciously
address these problems and hopefully solve these problems. He believes that if these problems are
not rectified he would destroy any chance he has at telling a truthful account of his brother s story.
To rectify these problems he employs a variety of unique techniques in his writing. Looking at these
techniques it is not always 100% clear how these are fixing his problems. It is also evident that the
way he is writing may be going against a lot of things we were taught in school about our writing.

The first of the three is Garth s death. When Garth died he lost his best friend, one of the few
people that he truly loved. After Garth died Robby got big into drugs, I think its cause he was
depressed after the loss and wanted to forget. It was a major turning point in Robby s life and in
my opinion the most important of the three events that could have started the story. The second
one is his own birth. People may wonder why this wouldn t be the logical starting point seeing as
how it s his birth and makes sense chronologically. The reason this can be seen as starting point
of his troubles isn t because he was born so it could happen as you d probably think. It s because
for as long as he could remember his birthday was overshadowed. It was right after Christmas so
it always felt a little insignificant compared to the biggest holiday of the year. There were also the
unfortunate events of death that seemed to follow his birthday around like a cloud. All of his
Grandparents died near his birthday and that has to take a toll on you. To have your birthday
associated with the deaths of loved ones must be extremely hard. The third and final possible
starting point is his childhood home in Shadyside. Nothing particularly traumatizing happened in
this passage but it s still important none the less. In this he talks about how he grew up in a
predominantly white neighborhood. He was around white people all the time and felt that they had
it easier than him. Also

The Technological Revolution Has Changed The Access Of...
1.0 Introduction
The advent of the technological revolution has fundamentally changed the access that citizens
within a democracy have to sensitive and private information about governments, organisations,
workplaces and fellow citizens. It is incumbent upon individuals to honour the privacy of this
information. The protection of sensitive information is considered paramount, yet anyone with
information that they feel is in the public interest and is faced with no avenues to make their
concerns known is turning to the internet as a platform for the swift dissemination of material and
a layer of anonymity (Savage 2013) and this new era of what is known as whistleblowing has
given rise to cyberethics.
According to the Congressional Research Service, whistleblowing is defined as making a
disclosure evidencing illegal or improper government (and corporate) activities (Whitaker cited in
Koh, 2012). The individuals who make these disclosures are termed whistleblowers, and while the
information they expose is protected by legislation and codes of conduct, they are usually not
afforded the same level of protection, and indeed, are open to prosecution for breaking the law.
The purpose of this report is to evaluate whether all citizens in a democracy should be protected
from criminalisation for exposing nepotism and corruption.
2.0 Methods
As whistleblowing in a cyber context is a new field of study, there is limited quantitative research
available. The report will discuss

  • 2. A Choko Hazzard Essay For Kids A Choking Hazzard Giving your four week old brother a jelly bean is not acceptable. My brothers favorite color is red because of a small indecent with a jelly bean. Well it was a huge issue that could have potentially been life changing, so not so small. Children, especially babies, shouldn t eat jelly beans for choking hazard reasons. And I learned that at five years old the hard way. My mom was on an important phone call and my brother began to wail. Screaming so loud you would have thought he was injured. Being the huge help I tried to be, I went to rock the basinet. He still was not content, wanting up. My mom came to get him allowing me to sit on the couch and hold him. I ask my mom if he could have my last red jellybean, not realizing in my five year old mind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She hung up on the call she still was on hold with and began frantically patting his back. She raised me living with her parents and my dad was at work, so for the first time in either of her kids lives she was alone with no vehicle. She flipped him upside down hoping gravity would lead it back down the path it went down in. When gravity failed her she tried digging it out again. Still, no progress. With her mind fogged with worry common sense took the back burner and she decided to walk with a choking baby 2 blocks to my Papaw s, her dads, small engine repair shop. She tossed him on the bed to get dressed and a small, now clear, jellybean came out. RyeLee began to come back from blue purple to a strawberry red. He was inconsolable from, what my mom thought, being traumatized from the horrific in counter he had to go through. Really he was just hungry and after a bottle he calmed. My mom took him to the doctor and they cleared him from any trauma in his windpipe. The event only lasted a few minutes but it felt like hours. I was never allowed to eat around him again. • 3. Comparison of the Poems, Two Scavengers and Nothing s... Comparison of the Poems, Two Scavengers and Nothing s Changed Nothings Changed was written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, a mixed race child with fair skin, who was later adopted by a white South African family who brought him up as though he was white, and he only found out about his origins as a teenager. Tatamkhulu lived in a multi cultural area called District Six, which was destroyed by the white authorities. He feels strongly about this kind of racism towards the black people despite the fact that he has fair skin. In the actual poem, the poet is telling the story from his own experiences in first person. Two Scavengers was written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The poem highlights the differences between rich and poor and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem doesn t state any other relationships, besides the contrast between the white people and the black people. This gives me the impression that both sides stick to their own , either due to the partite or difference of race. Two Scavengers is set at some traffic lights in downtown San Francisco at 9am. The whole poem is based around a freeze frame in time. The poet gives very little description to the setting of the poem, and instead focuses mainly on the two working classes, to get the point across. Socially, I think the Bin Men, or Garbage Men as they are called in the piece as this the poet is an American, aren t very well respected compared to the couple in the Mercedes. In the poem it says, ...and looking down into... as if to say that the Bin Men were looking down on the posh couple, this is but a bit role reversal between both sides. Bin Men have a lonely, smelly and dark job and most of the time are seen as stupid people, so therefore are taken advantage of. The poem makes me think this by saying, Grungy from their route . This particular quote gives us the impression that their job is very physical, dirty and smelly, which could possibly be linked to the hot climate, which again could add to the discomfort of the job. The couple in the Mercedes have a respectable job, are clean and are seen as clever and better off than many. I think this because the poem describes them as an, elegant couple and cool ... • 4. The Savior Sibling s Role In The Family Since 2001, after the first successful use of In vitro fertilization (IVF) and Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to create a perfect match for a sibling who needs a transplant, Savior Siblings had been a subject of ethical debates. PGD uses in vitro fertilization (IVF) to permit testing of embryos for single gene disorders such as FA and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type. This technology has been used by some couples with affected children to conceive a child (sometimes referred to as savior child ) whose umbilical cord or bone marrow could be used as donor cells for an affected sibling. (594) There had been questions as to whether the savior sibling is treated fairly and if they are being given the same rights as any human being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being Savior siblings mean they were created for the purpose of donating to their siblings. They will have to donate to give no matter what. Younger children most likely do not comprehend what is happening. They do not understand what is being done to them or what is being taken away from them. However, older children, in the preoperative phase can usually comprehend and have the capability to participate in their care and decision making. Therefore, even when a consent cannot be given by a child, assent should be sought. ...Assent is an interactive process in which physicians reveal information and patients share their values, until the two parties reach joint decisions. (282) Because of their status as Savior Siblings, created to give and donate, they will undergo procedures even if they wouldn t want to. Just as any human beings have the right to refuse medical procedures, they should have that right to. Also, everyone has the right to have their wishes heard. Everyone has the right to participate in their health care and medical decisions. Children who have the capacity to participate in these should be encouraged to do so whether they are Savior Siblings or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Democracy Is Better Than A Democracy Being part of a democracy means that the majority will prevail over the minority with no written constitution or rules to keep the minority from being over powered. Where as a republic has a written constitution for rules that are used to keep the majority from overpowering the minority. Just defining these two words one can say being apart of a republic seems more fair than a democracy, since there are rules that everyone must follow to keep everything fair and just. In this day in age it just seems that the rules are pushed aside and either party that is in charge can just do as they please. If our way of life were actually followed by the constitutionI am all for being a republic. But we all know that it isn t something that is followed all the time no matter what. So let s find out which one is better than the two a democracy or a republic. So we know from above that a democracy is run by the majority, that means if the majority likes it then it will be followed by all. If the majority does not agree with it then it will be taken away just as easily as it was given. In a democracy all people are allowed to take a vote on laws that will govern them. It is like asking your family if they want fish or chicken for dinner and of course the majority vote wins and that is what everyone will eat for dinner. Anyone that is a minority does not have the power to practice their religion of choice, dress, way of living or many other things that make a person who they are if the ... • 6. Peer Group Importance The formation of peer groups is important because it can impact a student s focus and desire to learn. In Promoting Harmony, the authors described the social and emotional changes that young adolescents go through and how teachers can acknowledge that change in the classroom (Strahan, LEsperance, Hoose, 2001, p.61 62). Many young adolescent students are in the difficult process of developing their own personal and social identity during middle school. Young adolescent students are usually vulnerable, so it is common for them to form peer groups with people they have things in common with. When a student cannot find a peer group to join, it seems to him or her like the whole world is over and they are all alone. As teachers, it is important to recognize when a student feels out of place and to make every student feel like they belong. Peer groups are also important to study because they can persist outside of the classroom and even outside of the school. Many peer groups can be seen roaming malls, movie theaters, or skating rinks, usually just talking, gossiping, or playing on their phone. It is an interesting phenomenon that the majority of students, especially in middle school, all share the same desire to fit in or belong to a group. If someone is not invited to a birthday party or a sleepover, it can be a huge deal to a middle school student. Struggles with peer groups and fitting in can turn into serious problems for students and can possibly even lead to depression, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Terror Of The Islamic State In the aftermath of a violent event, people often ask, Why? However, the question of what motivates people to both engage in and support violence remains a puzzle and is the subject of much debate. Within that broader question, there is a particular lack of understanding of how groups with extreme views that support violencemotivate supporters. The Islamic State (also referred to as ISIS or ISIL) is perhaps the most salient terrorist group today in light of recent, high profile attacks such as those in Belgium and Paris. However, Islamist ideology is not the only threat. Domestic right wing groups can also motivate violent action on their behalf. The recent occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge by an armed group led by Ammon Bundy brought renewed media attention to right wing militiamovements. The Three Percenters, their name referring to the supposed 3% of the colonists who took up arms in the American Revolution, are one such militia group. They are primarily motivated by the preservation of private gun ownership and are preparing to resist any perceived threats to their constitutional rights. There is a rapidly growing literature on this process of radicalization. Though there is no single cause, and violent behavior does not necessarily follow radical attitudes that support the use of violence (Neumann 2013; Leuprecht et al. 2010), little is known regarding the actual causal mechanisms (Silke 2008). In the media and popular discussion, the Internet is often cited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Jeune Syndrome Disease Jeune syndrome is a rare inherited disease that has a significant impact on infants and small children. As a result of this disease infants with this condition usually experiences difficulty breathing, kidney abnormalities, and other life threatening issues. Antenatal examination is possible by ultrasound but specific diagnosis is difficult and seemingly impossible. Individuals are diagnosed at birth after careful observation of the limbs and chest area. Patients usually die from respiratory failure because of a very small chest and repeated respiratory infections (Phillips and Van Aalst 2008). There is not a lot that can be done for patients with Jeune syndrome because scientists are still in the process of obtaining knowledge about the initial cause and ways to prevent the mutation (Phillips and Van Aalst 2008). It is understood that because this is autosomal recessive disease, meaning both parents must be carriers. When it comes to Jeune syndrome the primary problem rose from the disruption of proteins found in the cilia. The cilia is known as the hair like structures that protrude from the cell membrane and is responsible for moving the cell they are attached to or moving the liquid that is adjacent to the cell (Miller et al 2013). Very few people view the cilia as a signaling hub which contains the noncanonical Wingless (WNT), Hedgehog, and platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) signalling systems, and their disruption leads to striking developmental defects (Wang et al ... • 10. Famous Artist Stereotypes Essay Stereotypes are well known among humans and many of us have been faced with the criticism of such stereotypes. One of the most well known stereotypes is those belonging to famous artists. These stereotypes come from many of the movies created about such artists. Some believe that famous artists are someone people that are abnormal or odd in their way of thinking or actions. When asked what comes into someone s mind when asked about famous artists may also be how they are not famous until death. Along with these beliefs, people believe that artists have a very active sex life. Through media, these stereotypesare true but in all actuality, they are not correct. When thinking about famous artists, many people believe that they all suffer from some type of mental illness. Van Gogh is an example of the stereotype. Seventy days after Vincent moves to Auvers sur Oise and under the care of Dr. Gachet, he dies from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Many know the artist to be quite ill mentally along with the fact of Van Gogh cutting his own ear off. The man is known to have had many doctors by his side, checking ... • 11. To believe or not to believe that is the question.... To believe or not to believe that is the question. Robertson Davies depicts a novel in which two opposing characters strive for self completion. The journey of completing one s self is one of Jung s archetypes. According to Jung, completing both the body and soul lies within the characteristics of the psyche. The psyche is composed of three parts: the collective unconscious, ego and the personal unconscious. The collective unconscious is what people come into this world knowing, how children are shaped as adults through their childhood experiences and parental influences. The ego is the image people believe they are. It is this image which people pursue through the rest of their lives until they achieve self completion. Lastly, the... Seeing Mrs. Dempster as a Madonna shows how much respect Ramsay has for women. Staunton on the other hand sees women just as physical objects as he sees many of the other things in his life. A man with my physical needs can t be tied down to one woman especially not a woman who doesn t see sex as a partnership who doesn t give anything, who just lies there like a damned sandbag (Davies 175). Staunton throughout the novel has cheated on his girlfriends or wives. He does not respect women at all compared to Ramsay who sees Mrs. Dempster as a saint. Staunton s capitalist and materialistic ideas are never made clearer than at the point where he decides to leave his father. He was going to be a very rich man richer than his father by far and he was getting ready (Davies 105). Having grown up in a rich family, Staunton developed a greed for money and a materialistic attitude. He is following in his father s identity rather than searching for who he truly is, as Ramsay does when he is a child. Ramsay is very curious about the world and wants to learn more. • 13. How Did Plato Contribute To Geometry Plato and Archimedes: Two Great Mathematicians of All Time Plato is one of the greatest mathematicians and teachers of geometry to ever live. To some, he is known as the maker of math. He himself made an academy that stressed mathematics as a way of understanding reality. He founded this academy in 387 BCE. According to one website, ... he was convinced that geometry was the key to unlocking the secrets to the universe. Plato had many contributions in mathematics and geometry that helped in the past and still help in the present. One thing that Plato did, that he probably best known for, is his identification of 5 3D symmetrical shapes. The 5 shapes were: the tetrahedron, the octahedron, the cube, the icosahedron, and the dodecahedron. The tetrahedron, which Plato represented as fire, is made of 4 triangles. The octahedron, which Plato represented as air, is made of 8 triangles. The icosahedron, which is what Plato represents as water, is made of 20 triangles. The case was closely studied and investigated by the Montgomery County Police Department and was led by Chief Charles Moose with additional help from other government services such as the FBI. The identities of these two men were discovered due to clues that were purposely left behind by the perpetrators. Their names were John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo. During this time in history, these two names were known to strike fear in people s hearts and make people think twice about going outside and continuing their regular day to day activities. In the end, both of Malvo and Muhammad were charged with life in prison, but Muhammad was also charged with the death penalty. Today, only Malvo is still alive and now realizes the wickedness of the crimes he committed. The maleimide activated neutravidin covalently attached to the thiol functionalized surface through the maleimide thiol coupling at neutral pH. Unreacted neutravidin was removed with three PBS washes and the substrates were stored in PBS at 4 п‚°C for up to one week before use. Biotinylated anti EGFR antibody (Thermo) was added to the neutravidin conjugated PDMS surfaces at a concentration of 20 Вµg/mL in PBS and incubated at 37 п‚°C for one hour. Control surfaces were incubated with 20 Вµg/mL biotinylated antibody which was isotype matched to the primary antibody. Antibody attachment was performed immediately before experimentation followed by PBST (PBS with 0.05% Tween 20) wash and blocking with 1% (w/ v) bovine serum albumin in PBST for 1 h. Reversibly Sealed Easy Access Modular (SEAM) Platform Integration PMMA housings (L=45 mm, W=30 mm), McMaster Carr) were designed in AutoCAD and cut with a CO2 laser. Individually cut layers (1.5 2 mm) were laminated together using pressure sensitive adhesive films to create rigid plastic housings containing L=25 mm, W=10 mm, H=1.5 mm cavities PDMS pieces containing the microfluidic channels (top) and the flexible nanotextured or plain PDMS surfaces (bottom). Laser cut holes at the four corners accommodated cylindrical rare earth magnets (K J Magnetics, 2.54 mm diameter, thickness=1.58 mm) which were then glued in place. Rare earth magnets were embedded in the PMMA and oriented such that the top and bottom housings had opposite magnetic poles facing one another to achieve a simple and self aligned latching mechanism. The housings compressed the top PDMS channel against the PDMS capture surface and achieved a leak proof seal (Figure 3.5(b)). Magnetic latching allowed the SEAM platform to be easily sealed and resealed as needed. Abstract expressionism was, therefore, the first movement to originate in the United States. During the war in the times of chaos that existed in the world, America met the challenge of being the leader in art and developing their own movement which would span the 1940 s and the 1950 s. One of the most important artists in abstract expressionism was Jackson Pollack (see appendix A). Pollack s work runs throughout the span of the movement. The famous method of action painting which Pollack developed was much like the times he, and the other artists who practiced this method, lived in. Since that date, historians have argued on the attitudes surrounding this case that gained global attention throughout the 1920s. Immediately following the execution of these Italian anarchists, the liberal public expressed outrage and contempt for the verdict. Felix Frankfurter, in 1927 wrote a piece entitled, The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti, which dug into the injustices of the court. Frankfurter was appalled at how the justice system conducted the hearing. It is suggested that the judicial system jumped to conclusions, with a complete disregard for any evidence. Similarly. E.M. With the American values of capitalism and democracy under siege, fewer Americans sympathized with anarchists in the United States. The Complexities Of God In The Books Of The Bible Within the Western theistic tradition, the Christian God is conceived as a mysterious, supreme deity that is the only being worth of worship because He is something than which nothing greater can be conceived (Anslem 1033 1109). This God is the great architect of the universe whom represents the depth and complexities of human experiences. Such mystery is why writing about Godis essentially writing about the complexities of human beings. This is why understanding God is not a simple task. In order to delineate Him, His attributes can describe Him. Christianity organizes the attributes of God so that they are easier to understand. Amongst all the Bible s depictions of God s attributes, the three characteristics of God that are essential to further understand Him describe God as omnipotent, merciful, and as a leader. Christians understand and believe that God possesses qualities of omnipotence as the sole creator and ruler of the universe. God is believed to have all the power for the benefit of mankind and can create anything out of nothing. God demonstrates characteristics of such omnipotent power throughout the Old Testament by the nature of His creations and His word in the scriptures. In the book of Genesis 1:1 31, God created the heavens, the earth, and mankind in his own image. These biblical passages are a direct indication that He is truly capable of doing anything because the religious standard of the goodness of creation was possible since everything good came from Him. God s Word in the Scripture is exemplified in Exodus with a special revelation when He appears in front of Moses in the form of a burning bush. God told him to lead the Israelites, His people, out of enslavement in Egypt to the promised land. When the Egyptian Pharaoh refused to obey, Moses through the power of God releases 10 plagues upon the land of Egypt that finally liberates the Israelites. God s Words were so powerful ... Volunteering is a great way to get yourself out there and get known for works of service and positivity, along with just doing a good deed! I would say that volunteering, for Frisco Church was great. I volunteered in the children department of the whole church. From checking kids in as they go up to class, to teaching children s church Sunday s and Wednesday s, to even being a mentor for them was great! This brought a lot of positive feedback to me, like for example, teaching children s church on Sunday mornings was great for me because I didn t really know what I wanted to go to school for and changed my mind so many times, but when I teach them I knew I wanted to do something in the education field, I wasn t too sure at first what I wanted to teach, but I knew it had to be something with kids! • 37. Gender, Gender And The Media This book was written in a clear style with lots of instances from Anglo American media, Gender and the Media. It provides a critical introduction to the study of gender in the media and updated assessment of the crucial issues and debates. The book looks in detail at five kinds of media: news, advertising, talk shows, magazines and contemporary screen and paperback romances. It is examined how presentations of female and male are changing in recent years. Gill asks how useful nations such as objectification, backlash and positive images are for making sense of genderin today s western media. Gender and the Media asks some of the significant terminology that have been used to study gender in media texts, since scholars and activists first engaged with media representations of gender. Digital media is one of the main types of media, it can be created, viewed, distributed, modified on digital electronics devices. It plays a significant role in society and culture, and also it can cause dramatic influences on human s lives. My Philosophical Statement Of Inclusion My Philosophical Statement of Inclusion The notion of inclusion is progressively being accepted as a vital method of learning in our growing school systems. I believe that every student, those with and without exceptionalities, have the right to be included in a general education classroom. Students with learning, social and behavioral exceptionalities or varied abilities deserve the right to be provided with the same opportunities as any other students in the regular general education classroom. The information that I have acquired through my own experiences (in my observations and my classes) have molded my goals as a future teacher. Both children with and without exceptionalities learn with and from each other. Also, since both children with and without exceptionalities are expected to learn to write, read, and do math; higher expectations can be set and with good instruction children with exceptionalities can excel in these academic skills. I also believe that a key element of inclusion is maintaining a close relationship between me and the special education teachers and paraprofessionals that I will be working with. If it is at all possible to work together in one classroom, I believe that this will benefit all my students. I hope to embrace all parts of every student and include all different types of learners as I create my future classroom. As future and hopeful elementary education teacher I want to give every child the opportunity to be a part of my classroom. A Plan to Identify Social, Emotional, and Academic needs The first part in having a successful inclusive classroom is to identify the social, emotional and academic needs of all students and meet them. The first thing I would do is to review the student file to see what has been done or not done in the past. This will give any indication if past needs or behaviors have been identified or if they have just started. King Arthur And The Winter King Similarities While reading The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell, I noticed that there are both differences and similarities between the legends told in the novels. Before reading these novels I had barely any background knowledge of any King Arthur legends so I was learning new things as I read. The two novels portray both things that Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were some similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be discussing the similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both novels. To begin with, the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King Arthur. In The Acts of King Arthur, Arthur pulls a sword out of a stone to prove he is King and the novel goes in depth into how he is conceived rather than what Arthur actually does.. Argumentative Essay About A Soccer Game I happened to be on outdoor sandy field experiencing different mixed emotions as I saw people with several face expression at the end of the big soccer game. It was exhausting and unforgiving game that got some players injured, and caused the bad sportsmanship to take place between the coaches, players, and fans. Our fans and our rival s fans fought each other, and they threw stuff across the stadium as if they were dealing with a gigantic wild animal. Some of the playerscouldn t fully focus on their soccer match due to their divided attention, and some of them were terrified by the fan s unnecessary acts. Whenever I think about this moment, I cry and smile at same time because we finally understood the meaning of fair play of soccer, and happy ending of our game occurred as a result of that. I knew before the game that the unsportsmanlike conduct would happen, it really did as I thought, but besides our soccer game s dirty side, it appeared to be more captivating by the way it was played than any other game. I believe that there were three causes for the ungentlemanly behavior that we faced during the tournament. Both my team and the rival team fought to death in order to win the important soccer league because neither of the teams made it to the final game before. They always face each other during the knockout games which made them rivals. Finally, the beauty of the game also had an effect for why the match took place to be played dirty. Once the ... The products on these shelves represent the fruits of a thirty billion dollar industry that capitalizes on consumers desire to aspire beyond good healthinto the illusive realm of wellness however that is defined (Reinberg, 2015). The logic fueling this desire makes sense: given so many options to choose from, there must be something that will make life even healthier and happier than it already is. This logic is both true and false at the same time. • 44. Analysis Of The Ravishing Of Lol Stein Analyzing the Liberation of Lol Stein Through searching inside the haze one will find their true self. In the book The Ravishing of Lol Stein by Marguerite Duras, the main character, Lol Stein, goes through a journey to express her true personality. In the passage, Lol has an affair with the narrator, Jack Hold, which shows her transition as a person the most. Her internal transition into becoming an entirely different person is highlighted by the author s use of repetition, diction, symbolism, and dialogue. The repetition of the passage shows the confusion linked to Lol s transition. The repeated use of rhetorical questions show the perplexity of Lol s transition. In the passage, the narrator says who is there in the bed? Who does she think she is? The open endedness of the rhetorical question forces the audience to evaluate Lol s present mental state. Due to the questions being rhetorical, no answers are given leaving the audience in a state of confusion with little evidence to help identify Lol. Later, the narrator asks another rhetorical question asking who was it before me? The question calls for the audience to intervene again and think about who Lol was as a person now but he immediately shuts the question down by saying I don t care. This shows he has no interest in the transition of Lol. Though the situation is confusing, he carries on as if everything is the same. Another point where the repetition provided insight was when the author stated she insulted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story, for it is something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith , Marx is seen struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good Country People , Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t accurate. Identity can be formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion, and etc. This is basic sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that chooses to be influenced. An individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an individual can t choose his or her biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to call mom and dad. One can even argue that an individual can be identified by the choices he or she have turned down. There are many influences to form an identity, yet it is the individual who ultimately forms his or her identity based on the influences he or she chose. Marx is seen struggling with his identity in Defender of the Faith , for he has allowed himself to be identified by his duty, but Grossbart helped Marx rediscover a part of him that he lost during the war. When the Second World War first began in September 1939 Germany had started to invade Poland and as a result of this France and Britain joined in an alliance and declared war on Germany. By the 10th May 1940 Germany had begun their invasion of France using the Blitzkrieg Method. This source is quite reliable as the message is written at the time of the evacuation. The source also shows Churchill excepting an element of defeat, however it doesn t tell us about the other days of evacuation. As well as these sources there are also other sources that confirm the theory of Dunkirk being panicked and disorderly. They are written by a British pilot shot down near Dunkirk, a German fighter pilots account of Dunkirk, Charles Lightoller a retired sailor and a painting by Charles Cundall an official war artist. As we can see there are quite a few sources that support this theory. Another aspect of defeat is the loss of troops and equipment. The BEF had lost and left behind virtually all of its equipment. It had been forced to abandon 2,472 guns, 90,000 rifles, 63,879 vehicle, 20,548 motorcycles and over 500,000 tons of stores and ammunition. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time (1). The author compares the hopes and dreams of man to a ship on a sea. The ships that come in with the tide are ended dreams and the ships that stay sailing on the horizon are the ones that are still believed in. That is, until the dreamer realizes their dreams and leave, being mocked by the time they had wasted. Janie s dream sails on the horizon for most of her life. She can wish and hope for better things but the reality she lives in is very different. At the end of the novel, Janie realizes her dream. Her wish is to come in with the tide. So Hurston writes that Janie pulled in her horizon like a great fishnet (193). The author includes this quote to show that Janie had realized her dream. • 48. Relationship Between Science And Religion The relationship between science and religion is an arguably rigid one, the two topics presently posing contrasting ideas in modern society. However, this relationship has been varied over the course of time, in particular the nineteenth century. We can put forth the argument that it was not necessarily as simple as the two being mutually exclusive concepts that continuously opposed each other; rather the two held a complicated relationship. These apparent conflicts between scienceand religioncan often be resultant of more complex debates, for example concerning political power. It can also be seen that there was a continually shifting boundary between the two subjects, making it merely reductionist to say the two were in conflict. Science and religion were in conflict to the extent that both these concepts were adapting to the contemporary world, sometimes causing them to clash. During the nineteenth century, religion still remained a prevalent influence in Britain, from which we can argue that there was no widespread conflict caused by the sciences. Britain was a predominantly protestant country, with an estimation of attendance being made by Dr Chalmers, from which he concluded that five eighths, or sixty two and a half per cent., of the people of a town might attend religious services. The period also saw the revival of the evangelical movement, from which people believed that religion should inform every aspect of daily life, and we must spend our lives ... The most apparent reasons for the War of 1812 were the French Blockade, Impressment, British Indian Alliances, and War Hawks. The war of 1812 was the result of many built up tensions between the United States and Great Britain after America s independence. Tar Sands, By Jon Brownell Tar Sands EssayJon Brownell The Alberta Tar Sands are large deposits of bitumen,a sticky, black and viscous semi solid form of petroleum.(Merriam Webster) The bitumen is extracted from the earth and separated from materials that are not petroleum. This process consumes both water from the Athabasca River drainage basin and energy. While emissions from the water used are low the airborne pollutants contain more than 350 kilograms of cancer causing chemicals every four months.(Kelly) Also, bitumen is one of the least efficient power sources in the world.(Rapier) The Tar Sands are dangerous for people to live near, are environmentally damaging and unsustainable and are an inefficient source of power compared to other sources available in Canada. As technology has developed and improved over time the use of bicycles has decreased. Before the motor vehicle revolution, bicycles were a great type of transport as they were effective and convenient for their simplicity of design. In many developed countries people still use bicycles as their main mean of transportation. It seems that this trend of using bicycles has not reached Armenia and it is considered as a novelty. The overwhelming majority of people prefer cars to bicycles. There are many environmental and social issues caused by an increase in the number of cars in Armenia. Thus, the Armenian government taking measures to encourage cyclingto become a widely used mode of transportation in Armenia can be beneficial for the country as well as the people. Encouraging people to use bicycles instead of cars will decrease the ecological and environmental footprint people have in the country. The Technological Revolution Has Changed The Access Of... 1.0 Introduction The advent of the technological revolution has fundamentally changed the access that citizens within a democracy have to sensitive and private information about governments, organisations, workplaces and fellow citizens. It is incumbent upon individuals to honour the privacy of this information. The protection of sensitive information is considered paramount, yet anyone with information that they feel is in the public interest and is faced with no avenues to make their concerns known is turning to the internet as a platform for the swift dissemination of material and a layer of anonymity (Savage 2013) and this new era of what is known as whistleblowing has given rise to cyberethics. According to the Congressional Research Service, whistleblowing is defined as making a disclosure evidencing illegal or improper government (and corporate) activities (Whitaker cited in Koh, 2012). The individuals who make these disclosures are termed whistleblowers, and while the information they expose is protected by legislation and codes of conduct, they are usually not afforded the same level of protection, and indeed, are open to prosecution for breaking the law.
