Marketing Capstone
My wife and I have developed a marketing plan for the opening of a new antique store in our
neighborhood. There are three reasons we believe this will be a profitable opportunity. First, we
both love antiques, and have learned a great deal about authenticating, pricing and conserving the
value of these pieces. Next, we have business experience from our venture in consulting work. And
thirdly, one of the major antique stores in our area has ceased operations. Develop a marketingplan
for business We have completed our project in the city of Ashland, Kentucky. If our marketing
research is favorable we will opt for a storefront building in the old downtown section of South
Ashland. The reasons of the importance of this project... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Section B: Project Plan:
Project Steps. The project had regular meetings with the team members. These meetings were
used to evaluate the progress of the project. At these meetings we evaluated the project. We also
discussed how to proceed in order to plan our upcoming activities. The first step was to develop a
mission state for our business. This was critical because we needed to define exactly what
business we were to be in. Next, we would find sources of information concerning the local
economy and market. It was determined that we could use the internet and local business leaders
to assist us in gaining the necessary information. For our next step we would conduct a traffic
study to determine which blocks in our target area had the most favorable traffic patterns. After
this, we researched the other antique dealers in our area to get an idea of their sales

Essay on George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was born into slavery January of 1860 on the Moses Carver
plantation in Diamond Grove, Missouri. He spent the first year of his life, the brutal days of
border war, between Missouri and neighboring Kansas. George was a very sickly child with a
whooping cough, which later lead to his speech impediment, and he was tiny and puny. George
s father, James Carver, died in a wood hauling accident when he was bringing wood to his master
s house one day. George was sick a great deal during his early years. In 1861, when George was
one year old, raiders kidnapped him and his mother with horses from their home in Missouri.

A few years later George decided to leave the Carver s and go on with his education. He set out
and ended upon the farm of a family, Christopher and Mariah Watson, who became his foster
parents. While under the Watson s care, George attended the colored school of Neosho. From
age 10, his thirst for knowledge and desire for formal education led him to several communities
in Missouri and Kansas Later he moved to Fort Scott, Kansas to attend High school. In 1890, to
Indiana, Iowa were he enrolled at Simpson College to study piano and painting. In 1891 he got
admission in Iowa State University and gained his BS in 1894 and MS in 1897 in Bacterial
Botany and Agriculture . Meanwhile he also took art and piano lessons. In 1894, Carver qualified
for an opening, in Iowa, on the faculty as assistant botanist in the experiment station. Carver
devoted special attention to bacterial laboratory work in systematic botany. He also collaborated
with Dr. Pammell, an eminent botanist, on two publications: Treatment of Currants and Cherries to
Prevent Spot Diseases, and Fungus Diseases of Plants at Ames. In 1985, Dr., as he was known as,
George Washington Carverwas sent a request asking him to accept the Chair of Agriculture at the
Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College in Westside Mississippi. While in Mississippi George

Sammie Cornie-Original Writing
Although Sammie Cornfield, (also called Cornie ) was over sixty she acted like a teenager. She
went every where with wide eyed excitement. She was friendly and happy. She attracted people
to her side. She joined a religious congregation, and participated in all their functions. One of
them helped her get a little job. Her life was full and happy. It was only when she looked at the
calendar, to check a date, she realized it was Jake s Birthday. It was his birth day but she thought
of that email. She recalled sitting at her desk, looking at the screen. She had not kept a copy of the
email. It was gone down into the cyber sewer along with her account. The words didn t matter. The

Nothing back there, nothing in a Levy life mattered. Everything was here. This was her

Bali
Tourism has several impacts on many different aspects of Bali s society. Tourism has impacted on
the already existing, social, economic, cultural and environmental processes of the island. For
example, as a result of tourism the pace of urbanisation has rapid increased and tourism has sped up
the process of economic development.
There are large economic consequences on the economy of Bali. One significant impact on Bali is
the foreign exchange earnings. Tourism is the fourth largest income earner for Indonesia at around
US 5.5 billion (2003). Tourism is very labour intensive, with the influx of tourists more services are
required thus leading to more creation of jobs, even though it increases job opportunities and higher
paying jobs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The social and cultural processes are also significantly impacted. Tourism has helped develop and
keep up the unique culture of the island, it has helped revive artistic traditions, and has provided
an economic justification for preserving them. But tourism has also led to importantly
behavioural impacts, for example; nude sunbathing by tourist is widely disliked by the locals, as
well as that lack of respect is shown by tourists in scared places such as temples. Another negative
impact is the social development of Bali. There are constant conflicts between local villagers and
developers who want the land for hotels and attractions like golf courses. These social impacts have
led to a loss in culture and heritage. Another significant impact is the turning of Balinese culture
into a commodity. The major influx of tourists has plagued Bali s culture. Dances, ceremonies and
arts and crafts are all now adapted to tourists timetables and tastes, and are mass produced to reduce
cost. Also because more people are choosing to work in the tourism industry, this has meant that
fewer are available doe traditional ceremonies and communal tasks, placing more pressure on
traditional community organisations.
As a result of tourism Bali has suffered a lot. In my opinion tourism has plagued Bali and it s
culture. Tourism brings in a lot of money for Indonesia and Bali, but as a result of it the beautiful
island is being

Affects Of Weather On Deer Hunting
Effects of Weather on Deer Hunting Every year the fall brings in one of the biggest sports, hunting.
According to David Crook in his article How big is the Hunting Economy, there are about 13.7
million people or approximately six percent of the United States population that consider
themselves to be hunters. When all of these people get up the morning of opening day there is one
thing that affects the way that they hunt. Every avid hunter knows that they have to base their
huntingstyle off of the weather. The different factors of the weather such as the temperature, wind
speed, barometric pressure, and precipitation changes the way the deermove and can either make or
break a deer hunter s season. The movement of a whitetail deer changes according to the weather.
There are several different factors to consider when talking about the weather, but the one of the
leading factors is the temperature. Some people believe that the colder it is outside, the better the
hunting becomes. This is true until it gets so cold that the deer have to bed down and not move to
stay warm. When the temperature begins to drop down to about 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the deer
begin scrambling for food to prepare for winter and the rut. The rut is a deer s mating season. This
has the deer at a constant movement and makes for prime hunting. When the temperature begins to
change, the amount of movement of the deer begins to change also. If the temperature rises then
the amount of a deer s movement

She Walks In Beauty Summary
She Walks in Beauty is a great little poem written by Lord Byron (George Gordon) which is
written in iambic tetrameter, this specific meter usually found in hymns are associated with
sincerity, and simplicity. iambic tetrameter is a great choice in my opinion, it fits perfectly with
the text. Bryson writes this poem about Robert Wilmot s wife, Mrs Wilmot, Byron really tries to
convey the love the speaker feels towards a stunning women walking with her own aura of
beauty. The author speaks about how the poem occurred when he attended an event to meet his
cousin which is the woman. This encounter then led him to visualize a vivid image of her so he
begins to speak of he stunning beauty. The author compares her beauty to the stars clearly
visible in a dark, cloudless night. This highly rhythmic poem with meaningful tones is found in
Hebrew Melodies which was completed in 1815 conveys the authors message through very
descriptive imagery. The author doesn t describe her physical features she is more or less
evaluated in terms of the physical world, she is shown responding to the world around her. To
further understand this piece of work you really need to know his back story. George Gordon
born 1788 in London, son of Captain John, Mad Jack, Bryron and his second wife, Catherine
Gordon, a Scots heiress. The following 10 years were nothing to brag about because of his clubfoot
and his mothers displaced unnecessary resentment against his father onto him, later on George was

Essay about Bach s Life and Music
Bach s Life and Music He was a musical genius with thousands of musical compositions written
in his lifetime. He spent his life in Germany, primarily Leipzig, and worked at a school for the
city. He is considered to be one of the greatest musical composers, and composed till the day he
died. An unruly youth who greatly disliked authority, he had a strong will and mind of his own.
Well liked with many friends, yet no one really knew his inner workings, or how he thought. Of
the thousands of musical pieces he composed, few were published in his life. This was a man who
composed in great numbers, had reasons for doing so, and lived a rather simple, middle class life.

He was now looking for a job. He wanted the post as organist of Arnstadt where a new organ was
being built. After a short period as a violinist in Weimar he was indeed offered the post in
Arnstadt. However, problems arose when Bach composed a piece full of strange new sounds for
a church service. The Council decided to be lenient with him until he refused to work with the
boys choir and was found to have a complaint against him for entertaining a young woman in the
organ loft of the church. Thus was the end of his first job. He moved on to Muhlhausen and
married his cousin Maria Barbara on October 17, 1707. He got a job in Muhlhausen and set to
work on the poor facilities he had to work with there. His efforts here brought about his first
cantata Gott ist Mein Konig (God is My King), the only one of his cantatas to be published in his
life time. This was thanks to the Council s desire for publicity and prestige. A religious
controversy soon arose and the music in Muhlhausen was in a state of decay. Bach.was off to
find another job. On June 25, 1708, the Duke of Weimar offered Bach a post among the Duke s
Court chamber musicians. Bach and his wife moved to the small town of Weimar. While in
Weimar Bach composed music exclusively for the organ, which he played. By 1714 Bach had
moved up in status and was now the leader in the orchestra, second only to the old Kapellmeister.
When the old Kapellmeister died Bach had hoped to

operational and legal aspects, in national and foreign currency, as well as in the settlement of
security titles; in inter bank transfers and of the public sector. Later, regarding the international
experience in matters of payment systems, there appears a description of cases such as Chile,
Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia, which are in the process of modernizing their payment systems,
and for the effect, the structure, payment instruments and achievement of reform projects in said
countries is mentioned. Finally, taking as a reference the vision of a modern payment system and
the experience of other central banks regarding the implementation of real time gross settlement
systems, the integral modernization strategy of the country s payment system is described;
therefore, the present document includes a modernization matrix of said system, which contains
the activities to be carried out, which are contracted to the strengthening of the normative frame of
the payment system, to the implementation and modernization of the payment system and to the

Attending A Magnet School Program Essay
Attending a magnet school which based its education in the arts I never realized how drastically
different my curriculum was than that of other middles schools. The difference went beyond
middle schools in my district or state, but affected me closer to home at my high school. In middle
school, education more frequently came from collaborative coursework rather than traditional
lesson plans. The transition to high schoolwas difficult because it seemed that students focused on
social status and school administration focused on standardized testing scores. When looking at my
education compared to course readings, I have found that despite my two schools being in the same
school district and city, they each proposed different notions as to how schools should be ran and
what makes education valuable. Anoka, Minnesota is a northern suburb of the Twin cities. The city
is home to around seventeen thousand residents and proudly wears the name of the Halloween
Capital of the World. Anoka has 6 public schools which take residence within city; three elementary
schools, two middle schools, and one high school. Although the students from the two middle
schools become one when they enter ninth grade, what they learn in middle schoolis vastly different.
Sandburg middle school sits only four blocks from Fred Moore Middle School. What is going on
inside the two schools, however, is different. Sandburg, like most middle schools across the
country, focuses on subject which are viewed as

Utah s Coal Mining Industry
he coal mining industry started when people in Utah wanted fuel. Lumber at that time in Utah
was used just for building, not for fuel. In 1854, the LDS church said that they would pay for the
first usable coal mine within forty miles of Salt Lake City. The first coal mine was in Summit
County. Its name was Coalville, and it was about forty miles from Salt Lake City. The Mormons
built a railroad to the Coalville Coal Mine. They also found a mine that would give them fuel for
transportation named Castle Gate Mine. Soon the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad was
built from 1881 1883. It went to the Book Cliffs; that was discovered as Utahs richest coal deposit.
Coal mining had three big challenges The first problem with mining was labor. Most people that
worked in the coal mines were immigrants that came because they believed that mining would
make them rich. The second problem was money. The workers often complained about how low
their wages were, and how high the store prices were in mining camps. The last one was a safety
concerns. It was very dangerous working in coal mines. You could die from explosions, or gas
leaks. Because of those three problems, the workers protested and many strikes occurred. The first
strike happened in 1883, at Winter Quarters. They wanted safer working... Show more content on

The next strike that happened was the evening of Sunnyside Mine s opening in 1899. They also
wanted safer working conditions. In 1900, the Scofield Mine explosion happened; killing 200 men.
It happened at Winter Quarters, on May 1st. The miners were in working the mine when four
mineshafts unexpectedly exploded. That led into the strike in 1901, again, about safety. Next, in
1903 and 1904, the miners attempt to gain the protection of a national union, but that also failed.
Then a local strike happens in the mine of Kenilworth in 1910. The Kenilworth mine was the first

Research Paper On Askers
Because Meijer s is supposedly a big store, I made some tips for you! The first store is that Meijer s
is not big, just busy. These tips are important so please highlight and re read if necessary. First,
all around the store, there are red and black phones. The black is for employees, the red ones, are
for YOU. Almost every store is different depending on the location, for example in Ohio, or in
Grand RapidsMichigan. So, if you ask your greeter where a map is of the store you can see the
different departments, this is important because there are at least three red phones in each
department, as well as SOME price scan stations. Red phones help organize your questions to the
specific departments, for example if you wanta fishing license,... Show more content on

Leave your carts, NOT YOUR PERSONALS, but your carts with the greeter. Take the kids, or
leave your amigo, electric cart, with the greeter, grab your walker and then pee. Many vendors
come in the store, to fill ice or stock bread, or even give you free samples, they may be wearing
uniforms, but, THEY DON T WORK FOR MEIJER S. Refrain from asking where the butter is,
but you can ask for recipes! If you see a mess, don t ask them to clean it, use a red phone in your
area or ask the person in that department, this is important because we are a busy store. And we
wouldn t want to be taking care of a mess in grocery when we are supposed to be organizing the
flowers, right? Onto complaints, the best way to complain is to a store director, a cashier, or to
customer service. It is why we have it, among other things, to be honest we all care about your
complaints, but it is better from your mouth than ours. Fast lanes, there are ALWAYS,
ALWAYS, at most three employees working the fast lanes. LOOK AROUND, if your machine
is malfunctioning, or you need then to check an ID, be patient and wait. Don t ask someone
passing by, or even the greeters, just wait, their coming. The final big two tips, in general, are
amigos and blue carts. Where do I start, treat Meijer s with respect, please, don t push or leave carts
AND amigos all over the place. If the amigos are dead, ask an employee to call for help. DO NOT

Blood Wedding By Federico Garcia Lorca
In 1930s Spain, the ritual of marriage became highly controversial as the 1931 Constitution
allowed for divorce to be legal. This caused debate between older and younger generations. The
elders of society still had their beliefs deeply rooted in the views of the Catholic Church , which
did not allow for divorce. Nonetheless, the younger generation was more prone to giving into
desire and therefore was more open to the idea. The play Blood Weddingby Federico Garcia Lorca
insinuates the strong importance of ritual in the 1930s. Due to this, in the play, ritual is revered
and ironclad while desire is shunned. When Leonardo comes to the wedding of Bride the clash
between desire and ritual is made evident. Nonetheless, ritual is made... Show more content on

However, when Leonardo whisks Bride away, ritual is threatened. Lorca also shows how desire
should be kept hidden away in society by the running away of Bride and Leonardo being made
off stage. He shows that people would rather pretend that desire does not even exist making their
running away hidden signifying that. Additionally, the setting of Act 3 adds to the feeling of
desire. Forests have been known in plays to be a place of surrealism. Leonardo and Bride get
married in the forest as their ability to be together is like a dream come true for them and it
would not be possible anywhere else. In any other place, ritual would have had more precedence
and strength because society endorses it due to the beliefs of the Catholic Church. All in all, desire
is not imperative to society in the play and in that time period.
Blood Wedding portrays ritual excessively; even the title Wedding is a religious sacrament.
Thus, it should come as no surprise that Lorca encompasses ritual into the hunting down of
Leonardo and Bride. As soon as everyone learns that the two are gone, Mother dispatches people
to go look for them and says, It s come again: the hour of blood (p. 44). From this phrase, one can
see that the hour of blood has come before. It is an accepted ritual to hunt down and kill a
runaway bride or anyone who challenges ritual. No one is disturbed by the impending murder
because it is a tradition a way of living. Desire has

The Treatment Of Cancer And Cancer
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Cancer can be classified as a typed of
disease that causes an overgrowth of cells (1). The cancer cells begin to divide at an abnormal
rate which can cause lumps or tumors. This disease is very widespread and includes over 100
different types. Some of the most common types of cancerinclude, Breast Cancer, Leukemia,
Prostate Cancer, and Melanoma (2). Because this disease is so widespread and one of the leading
causes of death, researchers are working hard to develop ways to prevent and treat cancer. Over the
years, many of these treatments have shown great potential for a cure to cancer. One of these that is
gaining more advancements every year is the treatment of cancer using Immunotherapy.
Immunotherapy is the use of a person s immune systemin order to fight cancer. By taking what they
know about how the immune system works scientists have discovered many ways to treat cancer
with immunotherapy. Some of the current treatments of caner using immunotherapy include,
antibody therapy, cell mediated immunotherapy, and cytokine immunotherapy.
Antibody therapy is a widely researched area of immunotherapy. According to Encyclopedia
Britannica, antibodies are a protective protein produced by the immune system in response to the
presence of a foreign substance, called an antigen. Antibodies recognize and latch onto antigens in
order to remove them from the body (4). Antibody therapy dates back to around 200 BC, where they

The fieldwork and research questions are an opportunity for candidates to showcase appropriate
fieldwork and research that they have carried out or discussed. It is pleasing to see the range of
techniques attempted and the sources consulted in this work. Many candidates have an absolute
armoury of fieldwork options and research resources at their disposal. As in previous series, the
very best responses were able to describe accurately the group or individual fieldwork they had
done linked to real locations. Weaker candidates became lost in case studyinformation not focusing
on the sources from which this data had come. Lists of fieldwork techniques can only gain a limited
amount of marks and it is the use of these techniques in an investigation that the questions often
require. Unfortunately some candidates again seemed to be caught out by questions which asked
them about post fieldwork, ie results and conclusions. Remember that questions may not always
focus solely on the planning and execution of fieldwork and research, but could also be focused
on: (i) a description of the methods used to present and analyse the data;
(ii) a description of the results and conclusions; and,
(iii) how the methods of fieldwork and research were evaluated.

Ap European Film Essay
Europe is the home of many nations. It is also the home of philosophical, political and cultural

The creation of this homogenous world causes a bubble where the integration of national
economies, markets and cultures concedes to an essentially American dominated culture (Wayne,
2002, p.2). This import and export of culture, the bubble, and alimented by Globalization itself,
brings about that Hollywood captures around 70% of British film market, for example, and the
British film industry captures only 1% of the American market (Elliot, 2000). Jameson comes to the
problematic assertion that consumption of Hollywood films breaks up the seamless web of habits
and habitual practices of a national culture.
A critique of this argument was made by John Tomlinson where he notes that discussions of cultural
domination often locate the media as central to cultural imperialism (Tomlinson, 1991, p.29). It
seems that when we reach a higher level of Globalization the enemy of the difference is the
transnational system itself (Jameson, 1998, p.74). This all come to the fact that Hollywood films
playing in European cinemas or in television makes a clear distinction between media products
(films, television, radio, books...) and culture (repertoire of a national meaning). In this particular
aspect Tomlinson notes that:
media texts of Western origin are massively present in other cultures. But the key question is, does
this presence represent cultural imperialism? Clearly the sheer presence alone does not. A text does
not become culturally significant until it is read (Tomlinson, 1991,

Roe V. Wade Pros And Cons
In January of 1972, the Supreme Court made the decision to legalize abortion in the first
trimester of a pregnancy. This new decision extended the constitutional right of privacy to a
woman s right to her body. Prior to this new law, back alley illegal abortions were on the rise and
were responsible for one sixth of all pregnancy and childbirth deaths (Planned Parenthood). After
abortions became legal, safe clinics were created and women are able to safely receive the
procedures. However, the debate of overturning the court decision has been widely discussed with
a new year and new president. Pro life conservatives and pro choice liberals, both argue whether or
not a woman should have access to abortions. The Supreme Court should not overturn... Show more

Many of these states have created harder restrictions for the process of receiving an abortion. States
have tried to change the law that, requires women to receive state mandated counseling and an
ultrasound at least 18 hours before the procedure, forcing women to make two separate trips to the
clinic. It also prohibits women from choosing abortion if the fetus is diagnosed with a genetic
anomaly, and mandates that fetal tissue be cremated or buried (Huffington Post). These restrictions
not only complicate the process of an abortion but also painfully affects the women trying to obtain
them in these states. Many clinics have been forced to shut down in conservative states, forcing
many women to travel far to undergo the procedures. With harder restrictions the government
receives more control over a woman s body which again, violates the fourth amendment. In order to
protect the current ruling of Roe v Wade, the states and federal governments must continue to block
these pending laws and rule them

Florence Art School Research Paper
Florence requires more advanced education in the arts. I propose that a new academy be
constructed in the city with the purpose of teaching these skills to citizens from across Europe.
The main concern for this academy is the curriculum. First of all, there should be an emphasis on
Humanism, because it s a belief system growing in popularity that has been advancing the arts so
far and has been restoring Roman design elements in all mediums of art, most notably observable
in architecture and perspective. Next, I should specify the materials that will be taught. There will
be a focus in architecture, painting, metalworking, ceramics and sculpture. There will also be a
language requirement, calling for students to learn classical Latin and Greek while at the
Academies, allowing for them to read original Roman and Greek texts. This will allow them to
draw inspiration for their work. As someone who learned the secrets of Architecture by studying
Ancient Roman structures and texts, I can attest to their ingenuity and knowledge, some of which,
remains undiscovered. In addition, I propose that a library be constructed in order for students to
have access to original Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman texts and sources. Finally, some... Show

Essay on Mkt521 Case Swan s

Swan s Ice Arena is an ongoing hockey style arena in a city of 450,000 people. David Swan the
owner wants to increase profits by reaching public skaters outside the hockey and figure skating
format. Using only what information can be obtained from counting customers and reading
industry newsletters Mr. Swan, has made investments in equipment and promotions. To date the
returns on investment have been disappointing.
Mr. Swan has chosen a multiple target market approach putting all hockey and figure skaters in one
segment and all public skaters in another. This is not too many segment and all customers fit into a

By being perceived as unique in value the arena should have some insulation against competitive
rivalry for the customer s dollars. Building customer loyalty has long term affects. This moves the
bargaining power for price into the hands of the arena, increasing margins. These strategies
together make for a more positive market orientation and there is compelling evidence that a
market orientation has a positive effect on firm performance (Hou, 2008). Having laid out a
framework of new strategies it s time to do some data mining to find the numbers for Swan s
perceived customers segments.
Data Mining
The government collects all kinds of useful information about our population. How many people
live where, incomes, family sizes, ages, do they rent or own a home, and lots more demographic
data that is free for the asking. Modern computer programs make possible for any company to take
the masses of demographics and analysis segment populations. This has propelled data mining to
the forefront of making customers relationships profitable (Ogwueleka, 2009). This will help Swan
understand his customers better and find association between each segment. Customer have life
cycle due in part to the time of year, so Swan can now structure his advertising and see results based
on a better segment model rather than just counting customers. Data mining can also be used in
customer retention applications identifying

Kanner discussed his research based on a group of eleven children who all displayed similar
conditions such as social interaction difficulties, difficulty processing and adapting to changes,
particularly good memory, and exceeding sensitivity to sounds and other stimulants. Kanner used
the term autism to describe the main characteristics that all of the children he studied displayed
little to no interest in socializing with others. Lastly, Dr. Hans Asperger, a scientist and

How Did Aristophanes Make Lysistrata A Crude Comedy
Aristophanes
Aristophanes was a comic writer who lived between 450 and 385 BC and composed about forty
plays in his lifetime. His plays were all comedies, which usually addressed very serious political
and social issues in a direct and crude manner, which, like much of today s comedy, is what made
them funny for the audience to watch and appreciate. Many of the comedies would even go as far as
mocking members of the audience or making personal attacks upon contemporary political
personalities. Aristophanes Lysistrata is no exception to this crudecomedy, ridiculing what he thinks
is the absurdity of the Peloponnesian War. The comedy is a brilliantly constructed piece with an

The city state built blockades to resist occupation by the Athenian army and sparked revolt
elsewhere in the area, in Chalcidice and Bottiaea. Since negotiations failed, the Athenians sent
troops into the region by ship. However the Athenians also had their hands full with the
Macedonians in the same region and had difficulty suppressing the revolt. When Athens finally
made a treaty with Perdiccas, the Macedonian leader, she found herself betrayed as the
Macedonians joined alongside the Corinthians, who had come to the defense of the Potidaeans. In
spite of all of this, the Athenians were able to recapture control of most of the region with the

In fact the Spartans sent three different ambassadors to Athens over the course of the winter in an

St Wren Cathedral Essay
This research is going to address The Cathedral of Saint Paul building which has been in existence,
in various buildings since 1841. St. Paul s Cathedral, which was designed by the architect Sir
Christopher Wren, is one of the commonest iconic Anglican Cathedral buildings. It is the tallest
structure in London since its completion in 1710 till 1967 and it is the seat of the Bishopof London
and is devoted to Paul, the Apostle. It dates back to the original church on the site. Wren was
inspired by contemporary Renaissance trends in Italian architecture, and designed the cathedral in a
restrained Baroque style, attempting to combine the traditions of English medieval cathedrals with
the classical style of Inigo Jones and French buildings by Mansart. St. Paul s is unusual among
cathedrals in that it has a crypt which extends under the entire building rather than just under the
eastern end. The most important feature is the dome which is also among the highest in the world.

Rugby Team Reflection
Since the spring of my sophomore year, I have been tasked with leading a true motley crew. By
others this crew is called the Edina Rugby Club; however, I think of each and every one one of
these young men as brothers. Without the sport of rugby, I would not have had the great fortune of
meeting so many teammates of different distinctive personalities, backgrounds and ethnicity. There
are kids from the high schoolband to the math club to the varsity football team who make up this
crew. Given the responsibility to lead these young men, I have grown as a teammate and also as
a human being. I have developed the ability to respect everyone, regardless of who they are,
where they are from, and what they believe in. I learn from these young men and let them teach
me different things about each of their cultures that without rugby I might never have learned.
When I consider each teammate, despite different ethnicities and backgrounds, I see that they
are no different than me. I have learned to respect people not for where they come from or what
they believe in, but for who they are and how they conduct themselves as a young man. With that
being said, I still have the utmost respect for each individual s personal beliefs and history.
However, as a leader I feel that if we can get by the stereotypical norms of categorizing people we
will find ourselves not only having greater success as leaders but as a society as a whole.
Ultimately, those who lead are responsible for teaching the

Demographics is the study of the make up of the population. Demographic trends illustrate how the
population is changing. Factors that affect the make up of the population include the birth rate and
life expectancy. When demographic segmentation is used, consumers are grouped according to:

Cross culturally fertility and childbearing are a major...
Cross culturally fertility and childbearing are a major concern due to the significance of passing on
heritage, family names, and values to the next generation. Additionally, in many cultures the
children are responsible for the care of their parents when they become elderly. Infertility is a
universal concern in both Western and developing countries. It is estimated that up to 168 million
people across the globe are affected with infertility. The bulk of these cases reside within
developing countries (Vayena Rowe, 2002). When couples are having trouble conceiving a child
it is a source of distress for both partners (Helman, 2007, p. 176). This distress can be manifested in
a variety of ways that adversely affect the family structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Additionally, Whitehouse and Hollos (2014) identify different classifications of mother s, which
are culturally defined as infertile. There is the childless woman who fits the traditional definition
of infertile by never having been pregnant or birthed a live child. The childless mother is a woman
who has birthed a child but that child then died. The subfertile woman is a woman who has not
birthed enough children or they have not had enough children of one gender (i.e. sons). While the
subfertile women are able to participate in the women s meetings they are still lower in the
hierarchy of mothers. Though they do not meet the biomedical qualifications for infertile, the
subfertile women can still face similar socioeconomic difficulties of the women who do
(Whitehouse Hollos, 2014). In order to understand the infertility cross culturally, it is imperative
that we know how each culture perceives and deals with the problem.
Western ideas about infertility can vary a great deal from other cultures. There is a growing culture
in western nations of childlessness being a choice (Balen Inhorn, 2002). This can help eliminate the
social stigma of not having children because it is difficult to determine from the outside if this is a
voluntary choice. Though, westerners can be affected just as much by infertility, the increasingly
medicalized view of infertility allow for reproductive technologies to be better accepted (Balen

Social Structure In Ancient Greece
One of the earlier and much larger ancient civilizations that is widely studied are those of the
Greeks. Ancient Greece is a very popular theme of study covered in many disciplines such as
philosophy, science, history and anthropology amongst others. The reason for this, I believe, is
primarily due to its complex social structure in ancient time and a strong sense of culture and
Hellenistic pride as portrayed in their art, literature and architecture. Due to the fact that Greecewas
never unified as political entities lived as city states and that independence would suggest variation
in styles amongst the different city states, more emphasis would be place on the pottery decorations
of Athens and its immediate surroundings. For the duration... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Placing the Blame in Macbeth Essay
Placing the Blame in Macbeth
The blame for the tragedy of Macbeth must be apportioned between the three witches, Lady
Macbeth and Macbeth himself.
The three witches play a very important role in affecting the actions of Macbeth with their ability to
steer him in the direction they desire. They not only use their supernatural powers but also prey on
his greed and ambition.
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee thane of Glamis!
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!
All hail Macbeth! That shalt be king hereafter!

what they promise. At this point in the play he is the newly ... Show more content on

His vivid imagination, coupled with his fear of the witches and the supernatural in general, is
shown in the lines:
Macbeth I conjure you, by that which you profess
(howe er you come to know it) answer me;
though you untie the winds and let them fight against the churches, though the yeasty waves
confound and swallow navigation up
His weakness is also shown in the way that once he starts his path he becomes consumed by the
process and plunges deeper into a quagmire of murder and tyranny:
Macbeth I am in blood
Step t in so far that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o er
Another set of beliefs held at that time was that all things were set in their correct places and this
applied to people as well. The play could be hinting that Macbeth should have been able to master
his own ambition and reconcile himself to his place in life.
The fact that the witches can affect Macbeth so easily shows what a weak character he has. The
first predictions have such a strong influence on Macbeth that he sends his wife, Lady Macbeth, a
letter asking her advice on how to respond to the witches words, showing again the weakness of his
character.
The tragedy of Macbeth could simply be the tale of a hero who is destroyed by a certain weakness
of character, by ambition

Reflection On The Root Cellar
Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My
work has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5
18. I also helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout
my time at the root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the
classroom are evident with my experiences at this organization.
The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for
the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school
work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects.
Two times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first
was when I was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour
with his english homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked
for some help with his math homework. He was learning how to multiply numbers and I taught him
the multiplying nines trick on his hands. He was so amazed by this and was very thankful which
made my whole experience at The Root Cellar worth it.
The second concept I experienced was economic inequality. This is very apparent with people who
come into the root cellar as they are seeking assistance. My last time volunteering I noticed this as I

Negative Thoughts And Shame Addiction
Negative Thoughts and Shame Addiction
Posted on July 20 by johnmerideth
Addiction
When we think about addiction, it seems we mostly talk about substances or activities and rarely
about the deeply set emotions that come with being an addict. Recently I watched the HBO special
Addiction, and was struck by its limited scope in relating dependence or addiction to thoughts. As I
watched the segments, I wondered if they had considered the number of ordinary people struggling
with the less obvious but equally debilitating addiction to shame. Shame drives tapes within the
mind of each person in slightly different ways but the outcome for most of us is the
same...unfulfilling choices.
In the HBO special they did cover how brain imaging research, MRI, illustrates the way in which
the animal brain, the limbic part of our neural anatomy, overrides the decision making prefrontal
lobe. It can be a smell or place or the intensity of a conversation...whatever the cause...once the
addiction/dependence circuit is triggered there is little time for the do you really want to do that
thought to emerge and take hold before the flight or fight response kicks into overdrive. What
started as a survival mechanism, over time, becomes a sure fire method for self abuse and dis ease.
For most of us there is a mental leap to be made between negative thinking induced by shame and
addiction or dependence. We have trouble with the addicted label, at least in part, due to the stigma
attached to the words

After conquering the fundamentals, I enjoyed a rapid accumulation of knowledge. I have always
been a bit of a polymath, and even though poi did not come naturally to me at first, once I had
momentum, learning the rest was easy. When I next saw my friend, she was in disbelief that I was
able to learn autonomously, and that the magnitude of my progress was so great. Over the period
of a weekend, my skills had surpassed those of my mentor.
As with many of my interests, my fondness for poi quickly became a minor obsession. (At other
times my primary interests were making friendship bracelets, crafting wallets out of duct tape, and
painting.) I placed an order for two pairs of authentic poi more professional than my homemade
glow stick set that served me well for three months and even asked requested more for Christmas.
With these I would practice whenever I had a spare moment; I even carried them around in my

Obesity Among Minorities Essays
Erick Cueva AP LANGUAGE Mrs. Finco February 2, 2014 Obesity among American minorities
I am going to discuss the issue of obesity among American minorities. Elma Dieppa, cousin of
Helen Casillas, still wonders if her beloved family member would be alive today if she had been
more conscious of her weight contribution to her diabetes. She refused to take care of herself by
not watching what she consumed or finding time during her day to exercise, Dieppa explains,
reminiscing her as the life of the party during family reunions. At the age of 44, Casillas
unfortunately suffered a fatal heart attack. Although Casillas worked in the medical field, the
perception of her disease was skewed believing that she was not in fact over... Show more content

There are various pressing factors that contribute to overweight Latino children. Latino
adolescents find few options for physical activity out of class. Some areas have limited access to
parks, playgrounds, and other recreational areas, making it difficult for them to be active and
maintain a healthy weight. Schools are also contributing to the issue. A majority of today s
Schools sell high fat, high sugar snack foods and beverages in vending machines and school
stores. These malicious foods are easier to come by and cheaper, appealing more to the
developing minds of students. Schools have been known to lack access of healthy foods, such as
fresh produce, whole grains, and low fat dairy products (Latino Childhood Obesity). Marketers are
also a huge contribution to the rise in obesity among the Latino youth. About 74 percent of kid
targeted food and drinks ads on television promote foods in the lowest nutritional category
(Ramirez). Young children are affected more by food advertisements, especially fast foods. Fast
food commercials advertise toys with the purchase of a kid s meal that appeals to young kids. Also,
restaurants use cartoon advertisement, like Ronald McDonald, to encourage children to want to go
there, increasing their intake of high calorie and Tran s fat food. Giant playgrounds, along with the
cartoons and toys, grasp the attention of

The Opening Story Of Dalai Lama s Life
The Dalai Lama s opening story of his young life, in relation to his mother, set the tone of his talk
on happiness. There is no question in my mind that his personal disposition that made his life
remarkable, came from the most part from his family, especially his mother
Wherever I go I always talk how to become a happy individual, happy family, happy society, or
community... I think in my family the richness is my mother s affection. Because of my mother s
affection, in our home: full of joy (Dalai Lama, 2009).
In his talk, the Dalai Lama discussed the moral principles or code of ethics that guided his
exemplary life. He touched on the value of affection that all human beings received from their
mothers and parents (Dalai Lama, 2009). Thus, he wondered, Why does many people never bother
about this inner value (Dalai Lama, 2009)? He, however, recognized that man s self centered
attitude and materialistic life, had turned human beings into unhappy people (Dalai Lama, 2009). ...

Elp Improve Own and Team Practice in Schools Essay
TDA 2.6 Help improve own and team practice in schools |
Describe why team work is important in schools
It is important to work as part of team as this can only gain better results, you can listen to other
people and their ideas and also share your own ideas and experiences. Working as a team can
also reduce your own work load through sharing good practice, sharing worksheets, saving time
preparing your own worksheets for your class. Everyone within your team will know what the
target goal is and work together to achieve it. Relationships between staff within your team will
get stronger and you will feel valued and this will help build your confidence and self esteem.

Describe the importance of respecting the skills and expertise of other practitioners
You should show respect and value the knowledge of other members of staff, as you never know
when you will need their assistance. This can build a good working relationship as you show your
respect and interest in them. The same will be returned to you. A lot of the teachers at my school
have been there a long while so I value their advice and sharing experience, it is good practice.
Some staff at my school are not only class teachers but also specialise in other areas, speech and
language, special needs etc. It is not only their professional experience but some teachers have
outside interests, ie art, this is useful as you could ask for some creative activities or ideas to try
with your own groups to assist the children with learning. I also respect the

Comparison Between Durkheim And Freud s Theory Of Religion
Throughout this essay, an attempt to compare and contrast two key theorists approach to the study
of religion namely Durkheim and Freud will take place. This will consist of four stages, firstly an
introduction comprising of a definition of religion by Durkheim will occur. Secondly a comparison
and contrast of the approaches by Freud and Durkheim to the study of religion, as well as the
strength and weaknesses of these approaches and lastly a presentation of a conclusion will occur.
A number of problems are often encountered when dealing with the study of religion, the
foremost problem has to do with defining religion. For instance, definitions that attach and limit
religion to simply a belief in God/gods tend to be vague as well as narrow and to some degree
not entirely accurate. This is mainly because definitions like the one mentioned above neglect to
take into account atheistic religions that do not believe in God/gods. This is illustrated in a
definition provided by the oxford English dictionary, Action or conduct indicating belief in,
obedience to, and reverence for a god, gods, or similar superhuman power; the performance of
religious rites or observances.
An alternative definition is presented in Durkheim s book, The Elementary Forms of religious life,
A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say things
set apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a
church,

Identifying Covalent, Ionic And Hydrogen Bonds
After completing the lab, we will be able to identify covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds.
Hydrogen bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it
occurs between hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole
dipole bond. A dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that
the bond between hydrogen and oxygenin a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of
covalent bond is the bond between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we
will observe is solubility, the lab mentions. An example, of an ionic bond is NaCl, this is an ionic
bond because the Na+ and Cl , the sodium atom(cation) gives a pair of electrons to the... Show more

A water molecule is able to interact with up to four other water molecules to create a tetrahedral.
The second part of the lab, we will be observing cohesion and adhesion theories. Cohesion is
when water molecules stick to each other and adhesion is the occurrence of water molecules
sticking to other molecules. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water
on a piece of parafilm; we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread
apart, we will be explaining our observations. We will then, repeat the same experiment, however
instead of parafilm we will use a glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water
molecules and the adhesion between the water and glass slide. After, we are done pipetting the
water and observing, we will then demonstrate what happened in the pipette part (both the parafilm
and the glass slide) of the experiment using the 12 water molecules and the non magnetic tray. The
third part of the experiment consists of testing

The Class Sequence Could Be Improved
The class sequence could be improved. Some of the classes seemed, either out of sequence or the
information provided would have been better understood if presented first in another class. I believe
Ofc. Marlin tried to sequence these better but had difficulty with coordinating the schedules of the
instructors. When possible, give the training a higher priority and schedule early enough to
minimize last minute changes. This would benefit the training, the students, and Ofc. Marlin.
Toward the end of the academy, it seemed Ofc. Marlin was struggling to complete all class
requirements before graduation. The Personal Safety and Defense, as with some of the other topics,
was apportioned throughout the training. This was good and allowed for... Show more content on

I am greatly appreciative of both sections this practical training. It was good to have the General
Order, Special Order, and other regulatory organization presented early. The general concept of
state laws, arrests, and violations was early but it would have been helpful to have had the legal
class around the same time. When presented, the legal class was very lawyerly ; meaning
somewhat dry and rote. A little more discussion might have been helpful. Public Speaking was a
good class. It adequately presented the necessary information and allowed us an opportunity to
practice in class. Detective Shirley and Office Yates did a good team job in the presentation.
Interpersonal Communication was also a good class. Ofc. Jones did a good job on the
presentation. I m not sure why he presented this information twice. Verbal Judo was a very
important class and Detective Richardson presented it well. This information was also
adequately covered in the test/evaluations. As in Personal Safety and Defense, several sessions
covered report writing. This is good because it allowed for some of the lessons to sink in before
adding more information. Sgt Patrick presented the topic very well. The computer skills training
were very minimal. I suggest a significant bit of more time be included to cover some of the other
programs we will encounter. KYOPS and collision investigation and reporting was generally

Violence In Richard Wright s Black Boy
Years after African Americans were stripped of their identities and sense of worth when they were
brought here as slaves, the Jim Crow laws continued to curtail their rights and freedoms. Racism
and violence were the tools permitting whites to produce a social order characterizing inequality.
Richard Wright explores this within his memoir Black Boy, in the opening scene by depicting the
events and aftermath of Richard setting his family home ablaze; Wright is able to set the stage for
a tale of struggle with authority, fear, and perseverance as an African American
growing up in the
south at the height of the Jim Crow Laws. Wright prefaces the incident by depicting a small conflict
between Richard and his family regarding him keeping quiet... Show more content on

Wright helps the reader feel the severity of the problems he faces from inhaling the smoke and
nearly dying through his effective use of personification and metaphors through a first person
view: Smoke was choking me and the fire was licking at my face, making me gasp (5). This is
used to convey that his mistake is coming to get him in both a literal and figurative sense.
Violence and fear are also prevalent, as seen within Wright s description of his mother s
desperate calls for her son; The distress I sensed in her voice was as sharp and painful as the lash
of a whip on my flesh (6). This use of language not only emphasizes on the emotion within the
scene, but also distinctly foreshadows the violent punishment Richard faces following the
incident; Wright s utilization of diction as he repeats the use of variations of the word beat
throughout the passage manages to further said foreshadowing. Richard s emotions and view of
his own family is prevalent as he resists the orders of his parents, I hugged the edge of the brick
chimney with all my strength (6); Richard demonstrates his perseverance and determination for
survival at just four years of age as he embraces a burning building rather than grasp his own father
s hand as the fear of fire was more bearable than the fear of a

Wood Thrush Populations
The paper explicitly outlined the four key questions, asking (1) Is there evidence that
asymmetrical dispersal and therefore source sink dynamics occur consistently over time between
pairs of Wood Thrush populations? And if so (2), over what distance(s) does this occur? (3) Do
identified sources occur in areas with more habitat than their dependent sinks? And (4), are source
sink dynamics clustered in any particular part of the species range? (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p.
2)
Identifying key words, in this case posit , helps identify the hypothesis quickly.
We posit that, when dispersal occurs from a source to a sink year after year, there will be a one
year time lagged correlation in abundance between the two populations
(Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 1).
The authors often restate their hypothesis multiple times to clarify to readers the intent of their
research. In other words, a decline in abundance in the source population in one year will result in a
decline in the sink population in the following year, as a smaller source population produces fewer

point count routes. The routes transected Canada and the United States, with 50 survey stations

sightings or calls within a three minute time frame, throughout an unlimited distance radius.
Historical data from 1966 to present were reduced for consistency by selecting routes surveyed for
a minimum of 29 years, non contiguously, as well as exclusively using the first ten survey sites.
The survey methods are easily repeatable; the only materials needed may be a bird identification
book, and binoculars. Statistical concepts including temporal and spatial autocorrelation causing

The Gladiator Trailer Essay
In the summer of 2000 a box office hit was released. Gladiator was a brilliant action film set in
Ancient Rome, which appealed to over 15s from both genders. The film was hugely successful
and raked in over $190,000,000 in the U.S box office and $434,000,000 worldwide. However the
film wouldn t have been nearly as successful as it was without the help of an exciting and
gripping trailer to appeal to the target audience. Trailers are very important in the film industry
because it s the one chance film makers have to attract their target audience. They try to choose
clips which will appeal to their target audience and also makes the film makers trailer more
distinctive by including unique selling points (USPs). In this essay I m... Show more content on

Some examples are white sand on the coliseum floor, gold and brown coliseum walls, and red
rose petals falling around Maximus. Without this use of colour change the audience would find it
more difficult to tell that the hero experienced a radical journey from a general to a slave to a
gladiator, then a hero. As the trailer begins, slow images combined with Written Words are used to
give the target audience time to familiarise themselves with the story of Maximus. For example the
first few shots are of Russell Crowe as a general, then a slave, then a gladiator. This makes it clear
to the audience who the main character is and helps to set the scene. Then the images start to
become faster and more exciting. This is achieved by using rapid cuts which increases the viewer
s excitement. For example the viewer now sees images of sword fights, fierce tigers and
overturned chariots. A shot of a chariot overturning and the image of a horse jumping through
flames have also been included, but slowed down because they are exciting stunts and the director
doesn t want the audience to miss them. Also by encapsulating a shot of Commodus screaming at
his sister the audience can tell that the film will be dramatic. By making the scenes faster and more
violent, the director has gripped the audience so they will go and see the film. Another important
element of the trailer is the sound. Throughout the trailer tense, exciting music is played to draw the

  • 2. Marketing Capstone My wife and I have developed a marketing plan for the opening of a new antique store in our neighborhood. There are three reasons we believe this will be a profitable opportunity. First, we both love antiques, and have learned a great deal about authenticating, pricing and conserving the value of these pieces. Next, we have business experience from our venture in consulting work. And thirdly, one of the major antique stores in our area has ceased operations. Develop a marketingplan for business We have completed our project in the city of Ashland, Kentucky. If our marketing research is favorable we will opt for a storefront building in the old downtown section of South Ashland. The reasons of the importance of this project... The project had regular meetings with the team members. These meetings were used to evaluate the progress of the project. At these meetings we evaluated the project. We also discussed how to proceed in order to plan our upcoming activities. The first step was to develop a mission state for our business. This was critical because we needed to define exactly what business we were to be in. Next, we would find sources of information concerning the local economy and market. It was determined that we could use the internet and local business leaders to assist us in gaining the necessary information. For our next step we would conduct a traffic study to determine which blocks in our target area had the most favorable traffic patterns. After this, we researched the other antique dealers in our area to get an idea of their sales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on George Washington Carver George Washington Carver was born into slavery January of 1860 on the Moses Carver plantation in Diamond Grove, Missouri. He spent the first year of his life, the brutal days of border war, between Missouri and neighboring Kansas. George was a very sickly child with a whooping cough, which later lead to his speech impediment, and he was tiny and puny. George s father, James Carver, died in a wood hauling accident when he was bringing wood to his master s house one day. George was sick a great deal during his early years. In 1861, when George was one year old, raiders kidnapped him and his mother with horses from their home in Missouri. While under the Watson s care, George attended the colored school of Neosho. From age 10, his thirst for knowledge and desire for formal education led him to several communities in Missouri and Kansas Later he moved to Fort Scott, Kansas to attend High school. In 1890, to Indiana, Iowa were he enrolled at Simpson College to study piano and painting. In 1891 he got admission in Iowa State University and gained his BS in 1894 and MS in 1897 in Bacterial Botany and Agriculture . Meanwhile he also took art and piano lessons. In 1894, Carver qualified for an opening, in Iowa, on the faculty as assistant botanist in the experiment station. Carver devoted special attention to bacterial laboratory work in systematic botany. She was friendly and happy. She attracted people to her side. She joined a religious congregation, and participated in all their functions. One of them helped her get a little job. Her life was full and happy. It was only when she looked at the calendar, to check a date, she realized it was Jake s Birthday. It was his birth day but she thought of that email. She recalled sitting at her desk, looking at the screen. She had not kept a copy of the email. It was gone down into the cyber sewer along with her account. The words didn t matter. • 5. Bali Tourism has several impacts on many different aspects of Bali s society. Tourism has impacted on the already existing, social, economic, cultural and environmental processes of the island. For example, as a result of tourism the pace of urbanisation has rapid increased and tourism has sped up the process of economic development. There are large economic consequences on the economy of Bali. One significant impact on Bali is the foreign exchange earnings. Tourism is the fourth largest income earner for Indonesia at around US 5.5 billion (2003). Tourism is very labour intensive, with the influx of tourists more services are required thus leading to more creation of jobs, even though it increases job opportunities and higher paying jobs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The social and cultural processes are also significantly impacted. Tourism has helped develop and keep up the unique culture of the island, it has helped revive artistic traditions, and has provided an economic justification for preserving them. But tourism has also led to importantly behavioural impacts, for example; nude sunbathing by tourist is widely disliked by the locals, as well as that lack of respect is shown by tourists in scared places such as temples. Another negative impact is the social development of Bali. There are constant conflicts between local villagers and developers who want the land for hotels and attractions like golf courses. These social impacts have led to a loss in culture and heritage. Another significant impact is the turning of Balinese culture into a commodity. The major influx of tourists has plagued Bali s culture. Dances, ceremonies and arts and crafts are all now adapted to tourists timetables and tastes, and are mass produced to reduce cost. Also because more people are choosing to work in the tourism industry, this has meant that fewer are available doe traditional ceremonies and communal tasks, placing more pressure on traditional community organisations. As a result of tourism Bali has suffered a lot. In my opinion tourism has plagued Bali and it s culture. • 6. Affects Of Weather On Deer Hunting Effects of Weather on Deer Hunting Every year the fall brings in one of the biggest sports, hunting. According to David Crook in his article How big is the Hunting Economy, there are about 13.7 million people or approximately six percent of the United States population that consider themselves to be hunters. When all of these people get up the morning of opening day there is one thing that affects the way that they hunt. Every avid hunter knows that they have to base their huntingstyle off of the weather. The different factors of the weather such as the temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure, and precipitation changes the way the deermove and can either make or break a deer hunter s season. The movement of a whitetail deer changes according to the weather. There are several different factors to consider when talking about the weather, but the one of the leading factors is the temperature. Some people believe that the colder it is outside, the better the hunting becomes. This is true until it gets so cold that the deer have to bed down and not move to stay warm. When the temperature begins to drop down to about 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the deer begin scrambling for food to prepare for winter and the rut. The rut is a deer s mating season. This has the deer at a constant movement and makes for prime hunting. When the temperature begins to change, the amount of movement of the deer begins to change also. If the temperature rises then the amount of a deer s movement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. She Walks In Beauty Summary She Walks in Beauty is a great little poem written by Lord Byron (George Gordon) which is written in iambic tetrameter, this specific meter usually found in hymns are associated with sincerity, and simplicity. iambic tetrameter is a great choice in my opinion, it fits perfectly with the text. Bryson writes this poem about Robert Wilmot s wife, Mrs Wilmot, Byron really tries to convey the love the speaker feels towards a stunning women walking with her own aura of beauty. The author speaks about how the poem occurred when he attended an event to meet his cousin which is the woman. This encounter then led him to visualize a vivid image of her so he begins to speak of he stunning beauty. The author compares her beauty to the stars clearly visible in a dark, cloudless night. This highly rhythmic poem with meaningful tones is found in Hebrew Melodies which was completed in 1815 conveys the authors message through very descriptive imagery. The author doesn t describe her physical features she is more or less evaluated in terms of the physical world, she is shown responding to the world around her. To further understand this piece of work you really need to know his back story. George Gordon born 1788 in London, son of Captain John, Mad Jack, Bryron and his second wife, Catherine Gordon, a Scots heiress. The following 10 years were nothing to brag about because of his clubfoot and his mothers displaced unnecessary resentment against his father onto him, later on George was ... • 9. Essay about Bach s Life and Music Bach s Life and Music He was a musical genius with thousands of musical compositions written in his lifetime. He spent his life in Germany, primarily Leipzig, and worked at a school for the city. He is considered to be one of the greatest musical composers, and composed till the day he died. An unruly youth who greatly disliked authority, he had a strong will and mind of his own. Well liked with many friends, yet no one really knew his inner workings, or how he thought. Of the thousands of musical pieces he composed, few were published in his life. This was a man who composed in great numbers, had reasons for doing so, and lived a rather simple, middle class life. Johann Sebastian Bach(J.S.) was born March 21st 1685, in Eisenach,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was now looking for a job. He wanted the post as organist of Arnstadt where a new organ was being built. After a short period as a violinist in Weimar he was indeed offered the post in Arnstadt. However, problems arose when Bach composed a piece full of strange new sounds for a church service. The Council decided to be lenient with him until he refused to work with the boys choir and was found to have a complaint against him for entertaining a young woman in the organ loft of the church. Thus was the end of his first job. He moved on to Muhlhausen and married his cousin Maria Barbara on October 17, 1707. He got a job in Muhlhausen and set to work on the poor facilities he had to work with there. His efforts here brought about his first cantata Gott ist Mein Konig (God is My King), the only one of his cantatas to be published in his life time. This was thanks to the Council s desire for publicity and prestige. A religious controversy soon arose and the music in Muhlhausen was in a state of decay. Bach.was off to find another job. On June 25, 1708, the Duke of Weimar offered Bach a post among the Duke s Court chamber musicians. Bach and his wife moved to the small town of Weimar. While in Weimar Bach composed music exclusively for the organ, which he played. By 1714 Bach had moved up in status and was now the leader in the orchestra, second only to the old Kapellmeister. Attending A Magnet School Program Essay Attending a magnet school which based its education in the arts I never realized how drastically different my curriculum was than that of other middles schools. The difference went beyond middle schools in my district or state, but affected me closer to home at my high school. In middle school, education more frequently came from collaborative coursework rather than traditional lesson plans. The transition to high schoolwas difficult because it seemed that students focused on social status and school administration focused on standardized testing scores. When looking at my education compared to course readings, I have found that despite my two schools being in the same school district and city, they each proposed different notions as to how schools should be ran and what makes education valuable. Anoka, Minnesota is a northern suburb of the Twin cities. The city is home to around seventeen thousand residents and proudly wears the name of the Halloween Capital of the World. Anoka has 6 public schools which take residence within city; three elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. Although the students from the two middle schools become one when they enter ninth grade, what they learn in middle schoolis vastly different. Sandburg middle school sits only four blocks from Fred Moore Middle School. What is going on inside the two schools, however, is different. • 13. Utah s Coal Mining Industry he coal mining industry started when people in Utah wanted fuel. Lumber at that time in Utah was used just for building, not for fuel. In 1854, the LDS church said that they would pay for the first usable coal mine within forty miles of Salt Lake City. The first coal mine was in Summit County. Its name was Coalville, and it was about forty miles from Salt Lake City. The Mormons built a railroad to the Coalville Coal Mine. They also found a mine that would give them fuel for transportation named Castle Gate Mine. Soon the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad was built from 1881 1883. It went to the Book Cliffs; that was discovered as Utahs richest coal deposit. Coal mining had three big challenges The first problem with mining was labor. Most people that worked in the coal mines were immigrants that came because they believed that mining would make them rich. The second problem was money. The workers often complained about how low their wages were, and how high the store prices were in mining camps. The last one was a safety concerns. It was very dangerous working in coal mines. You could die from explosions, or gas leaks. Because of those three problems, the workers protested and many strikes occurred. The first strike happened in 1883, at Winter Quarters. These tips are important so please highlight and re read if necessary. First, all around the store, there are red and black phones. The black is for employees, the red ones, are for YOU. Almost every store is different depending on the location, for example in Ohio, or in Grand RapidsMichigan. So, if you ask your greeter where a map is of the store you can see the different departments, this is important because there are at least three red phones in each department, as well as SOME price scan stations. Red phones help organize your questions to the specific departments, for example if you wanta fishing license,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many vendors come in the store, to fill ice or stock bread, or even give you free samples, they may be wearing uniforms, but, THEY DON T WORK FOR MEIJER S. Refrain from asking where the butter is, but you can ask for recipes! If you see a mess, don t ask them to clean it, use a red phone in your area or ask the person in that department, this is important because we are a busy store. And we wouldn t want to be taking care of a mess in grocery when we are supposed to be organizing the flowers, right? Onto complaints, the best way to complain is to a store director, a cashier, or to customer service. It is why we have it, among other things, to be honest we all care about your complaints, but it is better from your mouth than ours. Fast lanes, there are ALWAYS, ALWAYS, at most three employees working the fast lanes. LOOK AROUND, if your machine is malfunctioning, or you need then to check an ID, be patient and wait. Don t ask someone passing by, or even the greeters, just wait, their coming. The final big two tips, in general, are amigos and blue carts. • 15. Blood Wedding By Federico Garcia Lorca In 1930s Spain, the ritual of marriage became highly controversial as the 1931 Constitution allowed for divorce to be legal. This caused debate between older and younger generations. The elders of society still had their beliefs deeply rooted in the views of the Catholic Church , which did not allow for divorce. Nonetheless, the younger generation was more prone to giving into desire and therefore was more open to the idea. The play Blood Weddingby Federico Garcia Lorca insinuates the strong importance of ritual in the 1930s. Due to this, in the play, ritual is revered and ironclad while desire is shunned. When Leonardo comes to the wedding of Bride the clash between desire and ritual is made evident. Nonetheless, ritual is made... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when Leonardo whisks Bride away, ritual is threatened. Lorca also shows how desire should be kept hidden away in society by the running away of Bride and Leonardo being made off stage. He shows that people would rather pretend that desire does not even exist making their running away hidden signifying that. Additionally, the setting of Act 3 adds to the feeling of desire. Forests have been known in plays to be a place of surrealism. Leonardo and Bride get married in the forest as their ability to be together is like a dream come true for them and it would not be possible anywhere else. In any other place, ritual would have had more precedence and strength because society endorses it due to the beliefs of the Catholic Church. All in all, desire is not imperative to society in the play and in that time period. Blood Wedding portrays ritual excessively; even the title Wedding is a religious sacrament. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Lorca encompasses ritual into the hunting down of Leonardo and Bride. As soon as everyone learns that the two are gone, Mother dispatches people to go look for them and says, It s come again: the hour of blood (p. 44). From this phrase, one can see that the hour of blood has come before. It is an accepted ritual to hunt down and kill a runaway bride or anyone who challenges ritual. No one is disturbed by the impending murder because it is a tradition a way of living. Desire has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The creation of this homogenous world causes a bubble where the integration of national economies, markets and cultures concedes to an essentially American dominated culture (Wayne, 2002, p.2). This import and export of culture, the bubble, and alimented by Globalization itself, brings about that Hollywood captures around 70% of British film market, for example, and the British film industry captures only 1% of the American market (Elliot, 2000). Jameson comes to the problematic assertion that consumption of Hollywood films breaks up the seamless web of habits and habitual practices of a national culture. A critique of this argument was made by John Tomlinson where he notes that discussions of cultural domination often locate the media as central to cultural imperialism (Tomlinson, 1991, p.29). It seems that when we reach a higher level of Globalization the enemy of the difference is the transnational system itself (Jameson, 1998, p.74). This all come to the fact that Hollywood films playing in European cinemas or in television makes a clear distinction between media products (films, television, radio, books...) and culture (repertoire of a national meaning). In this particular aspect Tomlinson notes that: media texts of Western origin are massively present in other cultures. But the key question is, does this presence represent cultural imperialism? I propose that a new academy be constructed in the city with the purpose of teaching these skills to citizens from across Europe. The main concern for this academy is the curriculum. First of all, there should be an emphasis on Humanism, because it s a belief system growing in popularity that has been advancing the arts so far and has been restoring Roman design elements in all mediums of art, most notably observable in architecture and perspective. Next, I should specify the materials that will be taught. There will be a focus in architecture, painting, metalworking, ceramics and sculpture. There will also be a language requirement, calling for students to learn classical Latin and Greek while at the Academies, allowing for them to read original Roman and Greek texts. Cross culturally fertility and childbearing are a major concern due to the significance of passing on heritage, family names, and values to the next generation. Additionally, in many cultures the children are responsible for the care of their parents when they become elderly. Infertility is a universal concern in both Western and developing countries. It is estimated that up to 168 million people across the globe are affected with infertility. The bulk of these cases reside within developing countries (Vayena Rowe, 2002). The childless mother is a woman who has birthed a child but that child then died. The subfertile woman is a woman who has not birthed enough children or they have not had enough children of one gender (i.e. sons). While the subfertile women are able to participate in the women s meetings they are still lower in the hierarchy of mothers. Though they do not meet the biomedical qualifications for infertile, the subfertile women can still face similar socioeconomic difficulties of the women who do (Whitehouse Hollos, 2014). The three witches play a very important role in affecting the actions of Macbeth with their ability to steer him in the direction they desire. They not only use their supernatural powers but also prey on his greed and ambition. All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail Macbeth! That shalt be king hereafter! These predictions are effective in attracting Macbeth s attention because they feed off his desire for what they promise. • 38. Reflection On The Root Cellar Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My work has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5 18. I also helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout my time at the root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the classroom are evident with my experiences at this organization. The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects. Two times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first was when I was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour with his english homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked for some help with his math homework. He was learning how to multiply numbers and I taught him the multiplying nines trick on his hands. He was so amazed by this and was very thankful which made my whole experience at The Root Cellar worth it. The second concept I experienced was economic inequality. This is very apparent with people who come into the root cellar as they are seeking assistance. My last time volunteering I noticed this as I was picking up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Negative Thoughts And Shame Addiction Negative Thoughts and Shame Addiction Posted on July 20 by johnmerideth Addiction When we think about addiction, it seems we mostly talk about substances or activities and rarely about the deeply set emotions that come with being an addict. Recently I watched the HBO special Addiction, and was struck by its limited scope in relating dependence or addiction to thoughts. As I watched the segments, I wondered if they had considered the number of ordinary people struggling with the less obvious but equally debilitating addiction to shame. Shame drives tapes within the mind of each person in slightly different ways but the outcome for most of us is the same...unfulfilling choices. In the HBO special they did cover how brain imaging research, MRI, illustrates the way in which the animal brain, the limbic part of our neural anatomy, overrides the decision making prefrontal lobe. It can be a smell or place or the intensity of a conversation...whatever the cause...once the addiction/dependence circuit is triggered there is little time for the do you really want to do that thought to emerge and take hold before the flight or fight response kicks into overdrive. What started as a survival mechanism, over time, becomes a sure fire method for self abuse and dis ease. For most of us there is a mental leap to be made between negative thinking induced by shame and addiction or dependence. We have trouble with the addicted label, at least in part, due to the stigma attached to the words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The strings tangled around me and the glow sticks smacked me in the forehead forcefully. Needless to say, they left a mark. My friend s attempt to teach me the art of poi was fruitless. In simple terms, poi is the art of dancing while spinning pendulums to create patterns usually with light. In my case, I was whirling glow sticks on shoelaces dangerously close to my face, shins, and erm other areas. When first witnessing the spectacle, I was mesmerized. After conquering the fundamentals, I enjoyed a rapid accumulation of knowledge. I have always been a bit of a polymath, and even though poi did not come naturally to me at first, once I had momentum, learning the rest was easy. When I next saw my friend, she was in disbelief that I was able to learn autonomously, and that the magnitude of my progress was so great. Over the period of a weekend, my skills had surpassed those of my mentor. As with many of my interests, my fondness for poi quickly became a minor obsession. There are various pressing factors that contribute to overweight Latino children. Latino adolescents find few options for physical activity out of class. Some areas have limited access to parks, playgrounds, and other recreational areas, making it difficult for them to be active and maintain a healthy weight. Schools are also contributing to the issue. A majority of today s Schools sell high fat, high sugar snack foods and beverages in vending machines and school stores. These malicious foods are easier to come by and cheaper, appealing more to the developing minds of students. Schools have been known to lack access of healthy foods, such as fresh produce, whole grains, and low fat dairy products (Latino Childhood Obesity). Marketers are also a huge contribution to the rise in obesity among the Latino youth. About 74 percent of kid targeted food and drinks ads on television promote foods in the lowest nutritional category (Ramirez). • 45. Comparison Between Durkheim And Freud s Theory Of Religion Throughout this essay, an attempt to compare and contrast two key theorists approach to the study of religion namely Durkheim and Freud will take place. This will consist of four stages, firstly an introduction comprising of a definition of religion by Durkheim will occur. Secondly a comparison and contrast of the approaches by Freud and Durkheim to the study of religion, as well as the strength and weaknesses of these approaches and lastly a presentation of a conclusion will occur. A number of problems are often encountered when dealing with the study of religion, the foremost problem has to do with defining religion. For instance, definitions that attach and limit religion to simply a belief in God/gods tend to be vague as well as narrow and to some degree not entirely accurate. This is mainly because definitions like the one mentioned above neglect to take into account atheistic religions that do not believe in God/gods. This is illustrated in a definition provided by the oxford English dictionary, Action or conduct indicating belief in, obedience to, and reverence for a god, gods, or similar superhuman power; the performance of religious rites or observances. An alternative definition is presented in Durkheim s book, The Elementary Forms of religious life, A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say things set apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a church, ... Hydrogen bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it occurs between hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole dipole bond. A dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that the bond between hydrogen and oxygenin a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of covalent bond is the bond between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we will observe is solubility, the lab mentions. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water on a piece of parafilm; we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread apart, we will be explaining our observations. We will then, repeat the same experiment, however instead of parafilm we will use a glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water molecules and the adhesion between the water and glass slide. When presented, the legal class was very lawyerly ; meaning somewhat dry and rote. A little more discussion might have been helpful. Public Speaking was a good class. Violence In Richard Wright s Black Boy Years after African Americans were stripped of their identities and sense of worth when they were brought here as slaves, the Jim Crow laws continued to curtail their rights and freedoms. Racism and violence were the tools permitting whites to produce a social order characterizing inequality. Richard Wright explores this within his memoir Black Boy, in the opening scene by depicting the events and aftermath of Richard setting his family home ablaze; Wright is able to set the stage for a tale of struggle with authority, fear, and perseverance as an African American growing up in the south at the height of the Jim Crow Laws. Wright helps the reader feel the severity of the problems he faces from inhaling the smoke and nearly dying through his effective use of personification and metaphors through a first person view: Smoke was choking me and the fire was licking at my face, making me gasp (5). This is used to convey that his mistake is coming to get him in both a literal and figurative sense. Violence and fear are also prevalent, as seen within Wright s description of his mother s desperate calls for her son; The distress I sensed in her voice was as sharp and painful as the lash of a whip on my flesh (6). This use of language not only emphasizes on the emotion within the scene, but also distinctly foreshadows the violent punishment Richard faces following the incident; Wright s utilization of diction as he repeats the use of variations of the word beat throughout the passage manages to further said foreshadowing. Richard s emotions and view of his own family is prevalent as he resists the orders of his parents, I hugged the edge of the brick chimney with all my strength (6); Richard demonstrates his perseverance and determination for survival at just four years of age as he embraces a burning building rather than grasp his own father s hand as the fear of fire was more bearable than the fear of a ... Wood Thrush Populations The paper explicitly outlined the four key questions, asking (1) Is there evidence that asymmetrical dispersal and therefore source sink dynamics occur consistently over time between pairs of Wood Thrush populations? And if so (2), over what distance(s) does this occur? (3) Do identified sources occur in areas with more habitat than their dependent sinks? And (4), are source sink dynamics clustered in any particular part of the species range? (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 2) Identifying key words, in this case posit , helps identify the hypothesis quickly. We posit that, when dispersal occurs from a source to a sink year after year, there will be a one year time lagged correlation in abundance between the two populations (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 1). The authors often restate their hypothesis multiple times to clarify to readers the intent of their research. In other words, a decline in abundance in the source population in one year will result in a decline in the sink population in the following year, as a smaller source population produces fewer young to ... However the film wouldn t have been nearly as successful as it was without the help of an exciting and gripping trailer to appeal to the target audience. Without this use of colour change the audience would find it more difficult to tell that the hero experienced a radical journey from a general to a slave to a gladiator, then a hero. As the trailer begins, slow images combined with Written Words are used to give the target audience time to familiarise themselves with the story of Maximus. For example the first few shots are of Russell Crowe as a general, then a slave, then a gladiator. This makes it clear to the audience who the main character is and helps to set the scene. Then the images start to become faster and more exciting. This is achieved by using rapid cuts which increases the viewer s excitement. For example the viewer now sees images of sword fights, fierce tigers and overturned chariots. A shot of a chariot overturning and the image of a horse jumping through flames have also been included, but slowed down because they are exciting stunts and the director doesn t want the audience to miss them. Also by encapsulating a shot of Commodus screaming at his sister the audience can tell that the film will be dramatic. By making the scenes faster and more violent, the director has gripped the audience so they will go and see the film. Another important element of the trailer is the sound.
