The document provides workshop directions for revising drafts and writing an interpretive section. • Write a good workshop question: specific, contextualized, revision-oriented, and
focused on the “how.”
• Get together in pairs.
• Read first writer’s draft aloud.
• Discuss the writer’s question.
• Discuss how can the writer make his/her description even more vivid.
• Discuss the details should the writer focus on in the interpretive section.
• Repeat with second writer.
When you’re done with both drafts
Either:
Start drafting the your interpretive section:
– Write a summary paragraph, creating a conversation between Mumford and
Zukin on the question: What is a city?
– Write a thesis paragraph wherein you add your perspective to the Mumford-
Zukin conversation, making an argument about the place you observed, in
response to the question For the users of your space, what city is this and whose
city is it?
– Outline an arrangement for the rest of the section.
