3. History
• Located in Beijing, China
• Construction began in 1406 and completed in
1420
• Became the dwelling of the Ming dynasty
government from 1420-1644
• After being the home of 24 emperors – 14 of
the Ming dynasty and 10 of the Qing dynasty –
the Forbidden City ceased being the political
center of China in 1912 with the abdication
of Puyi, the last Emperor of China

• The forbidden city is a huge rectangle from 961 metres long and
753 metres wide
• Consists of 980 buildings with 8886 rooms
