2. POWER SYSTEM PLANNING
Power system planning is a process in which the aim is to decide on
new as well as upgrading existing system elements, to satisfy the loads
for a foreseen future.
The elements may be
• Generation facilities
• Substations
• Transmission lines and/or cables
• Capacitors/Reactors
3. ENERGY EXPANSION PLANNING
Global energy demand is increasing almost daily, to meet the extra demand more power
need to produce. Generally power may be produced by
• from Coal
• from Natural Gas
• from Nuclear Energy
• from hydro power plant
4. EFFECT DUE TO POWER SYSTEM PLANNING
• Greenhouse gas emission
• Usage of water
• Fossil fuel using
• Land acquisition
5. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT BY USING COAL
• Coal mining generates a great deal of acidic and hazardous
waste which has a profound effect on water tables. Surface
strip mining also destroys habitat and can permanently
disrupt ecosystems
• Per MWh, coal burning produces about 5 times as much
carbon monoxide, 400 times more particulates, and 2,000
more times sulfur dioxide than burning natural gas.
• Per MWh, coal burning produces over twice the
greenhouse gases as natural gas and up to 100 times more
greenhouse gases than nuclear and renewable technologies.
6. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT BY USING GAS
• Emits about half the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent
(greenhouse) gas than coal
• Leaks during production, emitting significant methane, a potent
greenhouse gas.
• Can emit significant amounts of ozone and particulates during
extraction .
7. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT BY USING
NUCLEAR ENERGY
• While nuclear power plants release very small amounts of
radiation into water and air surrounding the plants, the most
serious environmental (and public health) threat imposed by
nuclear energy is that of nuclear waste.
• In theory, nuclear waste can be stored safely in in the earth, but
the extreme ecosystem and human health consequences of a leak
or release of such waste makes it difficult to find a community
willing to store it.
8. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT BY USING HYDRO
POWER PLANT
• Carbon dioxide is increasing by destroyed plants
and trees during the damming process.
• Dissolved methane builds up from decomposing
plants at the bottom of the reservoir that results
from initial damming; the methane is released into
the air as a potent greenhouse gas as water flows
through the dam.
• Carbon dioxide is released by plants growing and
dying along the sides of the reservoir during
seasonal drawdown and refill cycles in the
reservoir.
9. ENERGY USE CAN BE REDUCED BY
• To charge higher prices during Peak Hours
• Improving the efficiency of various end uses by using energy efficient appliances,
better housekeeping and reducing energy leakages.
• Promoting use of Energy Efficient Technologies
• Change the consumer’s electricity use pattern.
• Encourage best usage of electricity. It is for reducing outages & improving reliability.
• Keep the value of load factor to be high.
10. ENERGY REDUCTION PROGRAMMES
• Improving performance of boilers, steem systems etc.
• Efficient lighting such as CFL, natural light
• Appliance labelling
• Efficient and Alternative energy use in building
• Efficient use of electric motor
11. CONCLUSION
• To produce more electricity more environmental pollution will occurs. So we need to
use electricity as efficient as we can.
• And Try to use renewable energy.
