It Is No Secret That Women Often Change Their Bodies In
It is no secret that women often change their bodies in order to meet the societal expectations that
are portrayed in the media. The patriarchy and the male gaze dictate the ideal female which is
depicted on television, in movies, and in magazines. Woman most often alter their weight in order
to match the small slim physique of models. Weight is one of the main aspects of the female body
that the patriarchy controls. Woman are taught by society that their natural body is not beautiful
and that they must conform to the societal standard of a thin, size 0 woman in order to
accommodate the male gaze. The patriarchy dictates this of a woman in order to maintain male
dominance in society. However, these expectations have a negative effect on... Show more content

In society there is a distinct correlation between beauty and wealth. When food became more
accessible in the 20th century, the wealthy weren t the only people who could afford to eat and
the cultural expectation shifted from who could eat the most to who could control their food
intake. Because food accessible changed the societal belief in the ideal woman, it also changed
the relationship between women and food. The ideal woman has a cool relationship with food.
Susan Bordo writes in Hunger as Ideology, Undominated by unsatisfied internal need, she eats
not only feely but without deep desire and without apparent consequences. Women are not
supposed to crave food and they are not to over indulge. The perfect female eats not out of want
but out of need for nourishment and she is only to eat the bare minimum that she needs. When
on a date a woman must not order a steak and potato, but must ask for a salad and water. Oh and
god forbid a woman clears her plate, she must always leave food leftover to prove that she didn t
need to eat everything. Society expects women to not love eating but only do it because they have
to. Women should not receive gratification from eating but instead receive it through nourishing
others. Men eat, women prepare. Men are allowed to have healthy appetites for food just like they
are allowed to have an

Mercury Athletic
MERCURY ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR
Problem statement:
West Coast Fashions, Inc a large business of men s and women s apparel decided to dispose of
one of their segments; Mercury Athletic. John Liedtke, head of the business development for
Active Gear, Inc saw it has a possible opportunity for them to acquire it. The footwear industry is
very competitive, with low growth and stable profit margins. AGI is very profitable but it is
smaller than its competitors, which is becoming a disadvantage. Therefore, Liedtke believes that if
they takeover Mercury will double AGI s revenue, increase it s leverage with contract manufactures
and expand its presence with key retailers and distributions. Liedtke is evaluating the company in
order to find out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to look at it because it is a measure that investors can use to evaluate the financial
health of the company. However Liedkte being more conservative he says that the combined
businesses could achieve and EBIT of 9 % and when looking at the projections for Mercury from
2007 2011 we can see a growth in earnings. So then what are the cash flows if Liedtke thinks the
combined businesses will have a revenue growth of 2% in year 2011 considering we discounting
back to 2006. We need to calculate the Free Cash Flow (FCF) in order to determine if the Net
profit Value is positive or negative. Knowing that we will know if the acquisition should be
undertaken. When looking at the excel sheet we can see that the NVP using the discount rate
given by the case 7.65 % with a growth rate of 3 % gives us an NVP= $ 275,399.78. Therefore
the NVP s value compares the value of the investment made today to the same value of the amount
in the future. So that is the amount AGI needs to pay up front. The free cash flows are made from
the financial statement given in the case and were determined using the FCF method; EBIT (1 Tax
Rate) + Depreciation amp; Amortization Change in Net Working Capital Capital

Cuban Luis Ortiz Case Study
Cuban Luis Ortiz (28 0, 24 KO) challenged exciting WBC heavyweight champion Deontay
Wilder (40 0, 39 KO). In what was expected to be an entertaining fight for the main Card for
Showtime became the fight of the year up to this point. Ortiz a boxer with huge Cuban
background was always going to present trouble for the wild puncher/brawler Wilder. In the first
round the first thing that was noticeable was the size difference between the two. Wilder has a
five inch reach advantage which was insane. However, Ortiz would jab his way into Wilder while
avoiding the counter punches. Wilder nonetheless wasn t effective with his have early or straight

third round tied. In the fifth round the fight would become higher energy. Wilder started to let

his way. Late in the round Wilder stole it with a knockdown. Ortiz was very hurt, but got up and
made it three more seconds to the bell. The non stop action wouldn t stop there. The sixth was
another fun round with the two guys just throwing and doing damage on each other. Wilder edged
him out by being more active and dictating the fight. This point Wilder was taking over.
Momentum swing in full effect. Just when Wilder looked promising on the verge of a potential
KO Ortiz came back. Wilder lands a right hand just to get hit with a counter right to the chin that
hurt him. Ortiz kept up the pressure doing severe damage. Wilder holding on to Ortiz to regain
himself. Ortiz just kept the pounding going landing body shots and just any shot. Could not see

The Effects Of Malnutrition On Indi The Facts Essay
Critical Review
Child malnutrition in India The Facts
Malnutrition in India is a silent emergency (Leadership Agenda for Action, 2009) India speaks the
language of growth and progress. Malnutrition however, continues to haunt the country. India is
home to 40 percent of malnourished children in the world. Every year 2.5 million children die in
India, accounting for one in five deaths in the world. More than half of these deaths could be
prevented if children were well nourished .
Malnutrition is a serious condition in which the body does not get the right balance of nutrients and
calories needed to sustain good health and development. It has two sides undernutrition and obesity
/overweight. Undernutrition arises mainly as a result of inadequate or unbalanced diets, but is also
caused by poor nutrient absorption or a loss of nutrients due to illness (2000, Smith LC and Haddad
L). Undernutrition manifests in stunting, underweight, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies.
Micronutrients refer to vitamins and minerals. In this paper the term malnutrition refers to
undernutrition.
The prevalence of underweight children in India is among the highest in the world, and is
nearly double that of Sub Saharan Africa (2012, UNICEF). According to the National Family
Health Survey 3 (2006, NFHS 3) , 42.5 per cent of children under the age of five years are
underweight (low weight for age), 48 per cent are stunted (low height for age), 19.8 per cent are

Causes Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression was an economic decline that occurred in North America, Europe, and
other manufacturing countries of the world. It began in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. It is
known as the longest and most severe depression in the Western World. It is said that the Great
Depression began with a tragic collapse of stock market prices on the New York Stock Exchange
in October of 1929. Over the next three years, stock prices continued to fall, and in 1932, they
had dropped to only about 20 percent of their value they had in 1929. This decline strained banks
and many other financial organizations, especially those who had stocks. By 1933, almost 11,000
of the 25,000 banks had failed. During the Great Depression, shantytowns appeared as
unemployed people were removed from their homes. As the Depression got worse, and when the
government failed to provide support, President Herbert Hoover was blamed for the economic
conditions, as well as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poor agricultural practices and many years of drought are the cause of the Dust Bowl. When
there was enough rainfall, the land produced lots of crops. But as the droughts deepened,
farmers kept plowing and planting and nothing would grow. The ground cover that normally
would have held the soil in place, was gone. As the Plains s winds blew across the fields, it
would pick up the leftover dust and form clouds of dust in the sky. The sky would be dark for
days and in some places the dust would drift like snow. The Dust Bowl affected mostly the
American Great Plains region, the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska,
Oklahoma, and Texas. The Dust Bowl drove out hundreds of thousands of people, and because it
happened around the Great Depression, many people had trouble getting back into the grove of
things after moving to places around California. The land had little ability to produce crops and
many farmers were financially ruined. Many people died of

Prosecutors’ Charging Decisions in Sexual Assault Cases
Prosecutors Charging Decisions in Sexual Assault Cases
June 8, 2012
Case screening is the gateway to the criminal justice system. Prosecutors, acting as gatekeepers,
decide which instances of alleged victimization will be passed on for adjudication by the courts
(Frohmann, 1991, p. 213). As Supreme Court Justice Jackson acknowledged in 1940, the prosecutor
has more control over life, liberty, and reputation than any other person in America (Davis, 1969,
p.190). Frohmann examined the powerful discretion prosecutors have in their justification for
sexual assault case rejections in her research article, Discrediting Victim s allegations of Sexual
Assault: Prosecutorial Accounts of Case Rejections. Her research was replicated ... Show more

Spohn, Beichner, and Davis Frenzel do not conduct a field study as Frohmann does, instead they
examined all sexual assault cases cleared by arrest in Miami Florida in 1997. They did however
replicate Frohmann s design of interviewing a sample of the prosecutors who handled the cases.
By using this different method of research, Spohn, Beichner, and Davis Frenzel s are able to show
the frequency in which prosecutors used discrepant accounts and ulterior motives to reject cases.
This extends upon Frohmann s research. Their findings that, charging decisions primarily reflect
the prosecutor s assessment of the likelihood of conviction (Spohn, et al. 2001, p. 206) is
consistent with Frohmann s Findings. They also agreed with Frohmann s categories of
typifications, however they found that a substantial amount of cases were rejected for reasons
other than discrediting the victim such as, the victim s failure to appear for a pretrial interview,
refusal to cooperate in the prosecution of the case, or admission that the charges were fabricated
(Spohn, et al. 2001). Spohn, Beichner, and Davis Frenzel discuss Steffensmeier s (1998) focal
concerns perspective. They conclude that the focal concerns which guide prosecutors charging
decisions are the seriousness of the crime, the amount of harm to the victim, and the suspect s
culpability. They are more likely to

The Devil s Arithmetic Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Devil s Arithmetic is a popular book that was written by Jane Yolen. In fact, it was so well
acclaimed that Donna Deitch made a movie based on the book. The book and movie both follow a
girl named Hannah who experiences what it was like in the concentration camps. The movie and
book had their differences and were not entirely similar. Although they are different, both of the
stories are very interesting and thrilling. The movie and the book have many similarities, and have
many differences.
The Devil s Arithmetic is a story about a girl named Hannah who is going through her teenage
years and gets in a lot of trouble. When it s passover she visits her Aunt Eva and when Hannah
opens up the doors to Elijah she wakes up in 1942. Hannah meets Shmuel and Gitl in the book,
but meets Rivka in the movie. Hannah is captured along with the other jewish families and gets
put into a concentration camps where she tries to survive the horrors along with the others. The
Book was written by Jane Yolen, who is well known for her many dinosaur books recently. The

the concentration camp events that occur, such as the ending where Hannah/Cheya sacrifices
herself so that Rivka could survive. Both the movie and the book have the horrifying thing of the
holocaust. It teaches readers and viewers that the holocaust was real, and that there were men out

My Opinion Of The Initial Training For The Program
Your opinion of the initial training for the program: During the winter session, we had a course in
which is intend to get students accustomed to the software, we were given a basic tax assignment
to complete. This was a great way to get used to a new software that we have never experienced
before. It was a basic returnwith dependents, W2 s, Interest, dividends, etc. We worked with
friends to figure out this new software which was a big help, as one may know something you
don t. Prior to the assignment, our professor (clovey) give us a link to a Youtube video in which
they also explain how to get on the site and sign up for the software. These videos is a tutorial to
help you complete the basic tax returns, but for advance, it tends to be a little more complicated.
As for the tax laws training, I think our Professor s (Clovey/ Mohammad) did an excellent job in
giving us an insight of IRS rules we need to know. We were giving Publication 4012, which is an
easy guide to figure out who is qualified or not. We read about qualified dependent s, medicaid
/medicare, EIC (Earned Income Credit), itemization, standard deduction, Education Credit and
much more about these rules and exceptions. The class was held every other sunday (two time
each month), and we would have to read prior to class on new subject so when we go in, the
topic that are being covered won t confuse us. The class are mixed with Seniors and Juniors who

Comparative Analysis of Two Producers Essay
BAP210.1 Report Comparative Analysis of Two Producers Rochelle Heffernan (104371)
The following report introduces two producers I draw inspiration from, and am influenced by;
Rick Rubin and Ken Scott. Firstly to critically analyze their bodies of work we must first
understand the role of a producer and what classifies an individual as a producer or engineer. A
producer must be able to oversee and effectively manage the recording, they must be able to
understand the bands vision, they must have an overall goal as to what they wish to produce with
the band, they must be creatively innovative and true to the bands and their own style, they must

I m just a fan and I know what sounds good, I know what I like. (2008) As a future engineer I
found it befalling to discover that Rubin had little to no musical theory knowledge or any
musical or engineering knowledge what so ever. So what is it that makes this man so success?
Why can he of all people draw great performances from his clients? What makes Rick Rubin a
Grammy winning engineer, an influential musical man? Producing such a diverse selection of
musicians, Rubin is a listener before he is an engineer; refusing to work in an office setup he uses
his historical L.A home to meet with musicians. Rubin believes that music isn t made behind a
work desk or over the phone; music must first be experienced before it is produced. It can therefore
be assumed that Rubin s successful career is due to underlining appreciation for the music he is
producing. He doesn t know much about music, but he knows what works and this pro found style
of engineering through listening rather than through use of techniques has built an almost instantly
recognizable personal style that can be heard on each record he has worked on. (http:/

The Main Issue In This Article Is That The Education System
The main issue in this article is that the education system is failing to deliver valuable education
while promoting inequality among the student who can and can t afford an education. One of the
reasons for the poor quality of education is that students are not recognizing the importance of
knowledge. According to the article time use studies show that the time students spend in class or
studying has dropped from 40 hours a week in the 1920s to the 1960s to 27 hours a week now.
(source) This means that students are taking it easier in their educational system. Many employers

This becomes problematic because those able to afford an education have the opportunity to
progress leaving those who can t behind. Thatdoes not serve the Jeffersonian ideal of nurturing
the talents of the poor as well as the rich for the greater good of society . So the education system
has a divided soul; on one side it is an enterprise and on another side it is the means for students
to gain economic prosperity. People have overlooked the real importance of attending a university
that is to gain knowledge that can later be applied in order to achieve a certain outcome, such as
advanced performance in their career. ResponseFrom an early age, we see kids that don t want to
go to school anymore. They see school as a chore rather than a place for educational growth. Kids
at a very young age begin to lose interest in the education system which is why students at an
older age learn how to be passive learners instead of active learners. In passive learning, students
are temporary memorizing information to be used in a test. Once the test is completed they simply
forget the information. Their main concern is to ace the test and receive a passing grade. In active
learning, students are actually engaging in learning and retain all the information to gain
knowledge of the subject being taught. In order to better prepare kids for life, America should

What Is A Good Kiss Essay
Kiss is the one thing that really causes you to think of true love. A soft kiss from your lover s
lips can cause you to drift in the moment for hours on end and make you want to kiss your lover
for hours on end. True loves create smiles that pushes up from within you like a flower growing
out of the ground, with even the slightness thought of your lover; yes, I said smiles because not
only is a there a smile on your face, but your eyes smile as well. I mentioned Kiss, which deserves a
chapter of its own however I will say some things about kissing here. Kissing speaks volumes to
most female, as the first sign of a possible strong relationship. It is considered the first sign because
it the first kiss is bad, there may not be a second kiss. I understand that some of you would like a
definition of what is a bad kiss. Well... a bad kiss... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For each person woman or man, the kiss is how they feel about you, and how you feel about
them. A kiss should never be used as a stepping stone to elevate the relationship to next level of
intimacy. Here is what I mean; a lot of people male and female only kiss one another to proceed
hurriedly to sex. However, a kiss is to create desire and passion. A kiss should be soft, gentle and
deliberate. A great kiss is when your mate pays close attention to your lips, both the top and bottom
lip. The inside of your lips, as well as the outer lip get special attention. A great kisser kisses your
entire lips, all the way around your lips, and pays special attention to the corner of your lips, he
/she pauses and/or stops and kisses both corners of your mouth really stops to enjoy your lips.
Think about this for a minute, what is the point in someone having nice kissing lips, if they are
not used for kissing, or they do not know how to enjoy kissing? This may sound is if I am talking
in circles; however, a kiss is only as special as the person who is delivering the kiss, to the person
who receiving the kiss! A kiss is

Literary Devices In A Prayer For Owen Meany
When reading John Irving s, A Prayer for Owen Meany, he uses a plethora of literary devices and
techniques. Out of the list that he displays in this novel, there are three elements that really draw
through the entire piece. These being: foreshadowing, irony, and setting. The three listed are the
devices Irving uses to the most extent and impact the story more than all the others. Foreshadowing
is the clearest to spot throughout the chapters. Launching in the second chapter, The Armadillo,
was when Owen Meany first came across as a Christ figure. Johnny s cousins come to 80 Front
Street to visit for Thanksgiving and Owen Meany is upstairs in the attic with Johnny. Hesitantly,
Johnny introduces the cousins to Owen, scared of how they ll treat Owen, or how they ll treat
Johnny for being friends with him. After the cousins declare how wimpy Owen is and make fun of
his voice, they see Owen in the attic with his arms behind his back (being armless) and the sun
shining from behind him, making him look like the ultimate Christ figure. Hester even stated to
Johnny that she didn t even think he was human. Johnny connects Owen to God, thinking that there
is no doubt that, in the dazzling configurations of the sun that poured through the attic in skylights,
he look looked like a descending angel a tiny but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of symbolism could even be Owen Meany representing Christ or Johnny s guardian
angel who ends up cutting off Johnny s trigger finger for his protection from the draft to Vietnam.
Armlessness is also a symbol that Irving utilizes through out the entire novel, with different objects
and characters representing the disadvantages of missing a body part or the helplessness of some
people, or relationships with God and surrendering to their beliefs. These people include Lydia s

The Unique History Of The Negro Baseball Leagues
In this essay we will take a look at the unique history of the Negro Baseball Leagues. We will
discuss how they were an integral part of the African American culture and what they meant to
their communities. We will also discuss some of the more famous players of the Negro Leagues
as well as take a look at what the impact of Jackie Robinsonbeing the first African American to be
signed to a professional Major League team was and how it affected the future of baseball.
Black American men were banned from being able to play professional baseball from the early
1900 s till the late 1940 s. This sparked the creation of what was known as the Negro Leagues.
The first successful Negro League was formed in 1920 by Andrew Rube Foster (https:/

associated with the Great Depression (Baseball: An Illustrated History, G. Ward, Page 87). As
the Great Depression ended and America got closer to WWII, the popularity of the Negro
leagues grew. The creation of the Negro National League and the Negro American League
represented the two premier Negro leagues in the 1930 s and 1940 s. They were just as
organized as their white counterparts. They played a 140 game schedule, had their own all star
games, as well as their own World Series (Baseball: An Illustrated History, G. Ward, Page 247).
The Negro leagues flourished during WWII. The white players of the professional teams were

Dear Chronicle Books; Submissions Editor,
The law of attraction is a growing trend. Though many people read the books tailored towards
this law they fail to attract into their life what they desire. They have the knowledge to use this
law yet they don t practice it. Knowledge isn t a capacity of knowing but rather a capacity of

finally manifest their goals. The main principles in this book are based on the similarities I noticed
in books including The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra and The Secret by
Rhonda Bryne, psychological studies I examined while I was in University, and various
documentaries including The Secret on Netflix. These sources have a very powerful and effective
message to empower people to transform their lives yet millions of people don t follow through.

Hcg Injections For Weight Loss
Title HCG injections for weight loss: Fab or fad?
Description Obesity is one of the consistent side effects associated with the urban lifestyle today. A
number of weight loss programs including HCG injections are coming up purported to cure obesity.
What is HCG and why should you know of it?
HCG injections contain the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin typically secreted by the
pregnant mother s placenta following successful conception. It is reason behind the pink bar of a
pregnancy test strip attesting successful pregnancy. HCG is being used to deal with problems
regarding conceiving babies from quite some time by medical practitioners.
When did it all start?
The revelation that HCG can burn fat started first in the 1950 s when Dr. Albert T. Simeons, an
endocrinologist from Britain started using HCG injections to treat people with obesity. One of
the probable and not yet established role of human chorionic gonadotrophin is that it burns belly
fat to provide ATP or energy for the fetus, Dr. Simeons concluded from this belief that HCG must
also facilitate a rapid burning of fat from all portions of the body at all times. But no substantial
cases of actual weight loss through only HCG injections have come up till date. In a more recent
time, Kevin Trudeau in his 2007 book claimed that HCG injections were the magic secret to quick
weight loss. The funny part is Kevin is not even remotely associated with medicine or health; he is
just another shady businessman.

Slavery In Central America
Slavery had an effect on the world as we know it today for many differnet reasons. African
American slaves were considered the prime slave workers during the time of the atlantic world and
this caused African slaves to live a very brutal and unequal life to this day. When the english settled
in the Americas, work had needed to be done to survive. So with so much land, farming seemed to
be the best option. The best farming grounds were in central america, the only problem is the

On the journey across the Atlantic ocean, the average death rate was 13%. The slaves were in
dreadful conditions being in close bunkers for anywhere over a 6 week journey. Slaves would
only be in fresh air (top deck) for a few hours a week, even if that. This caused many slaves to die

Relationships Between Humbert And Lolita
Bonnie and Clyde. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Classic relationships between characters are
known universally. These vital relationships make stories come alive. But certain connections in
stories are detrimental to the characters. These can actually make the story that much more
interesting. Brett Ashley and Jake Barnes. Tom and Daisy Buchanan. These are the relationships
that ruin themselves but become ubiquitous for their violence and conflict. And sometimes that is
just more interesting. Vladimir Nabokov s novelLolitaexplores this idea about relationships,
especially between Humbert Humbert and Lolita. It challenges interpersonal connections that we ve
come to know so well. Although Humbert continually proves himself as an unreliable narrator who
can t repent because he constantly manipulates the truth, he actually does repent his sins because he
ends up realizing the atrocity and irreparable damage of his actions. We can see that Humbert never
truly repents his sins because he ultimately writes this novel for the jury to read; therefore, he can
completely justify his wrongdoings without repenting at all. Humbert s ability to make the jury the
reader take his side is seen many times in the novel when he breaks the fourth wall: Ladies and
gentlemen of the jury, the majority of sex offenders...are innocuous, inadequate, passive, timid
strangers who merely ask the community to allow them to pursue their practically harmless, so
called aberrant behavior...without

The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism
Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term Utilitarianism.
Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a restricted manner that is
divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often attach everything with the element of
pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the theory. However, the proponents of the theory of
utilitarianism such as Epicurus and Bentham asserted that it was pleasurein itself and the exclusion
of pain. Therefore, the moralityprinciple of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest
happiness principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive
results that are associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when they are linked
to the negative outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness refers to the absence of pain
when there is pleasure, while unhappiness is characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on
the theory of utilitarianism, morality is founded on humanactivities that are aimed to promote
happiness and pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be
pleasure.
Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human beings possess. He
illustrates the view by stating that, I have dwelt on this point as being a necessary part of perfectly
just conception of utility or happiness considered the directive rule of human conduct (p:11). For

The Psychosocial Effects Of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in American women and around 12
percent of women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.1 Patients have the choice of
5 different types of mastectomy: total mastectomy with removal of breast tissue without lymph
node removal, modified radical mastectomy where the entire breastand axillary lymph nodes are
removed, radical mastectomy where entire breast and chest muscles are removed, partial
mastectomy frequently referred to as breast conservative surgery where only cancerous tissue is
removed, or subcutaneous mastectomy where breast tissue is removed with conservation of the
nipple and areola.2 The standard of care in the United States for women who have had mastectomy
secondary to breast cancer is to receive a breast reconstruction.2 On top of a common but
devastating diagnosis of breast cancer with fears of facing months of chemotherapy and radiation,
most women also make the decision to beat the cancer with a mastectomy and reconstruction.
The topic I am choosing for my literature review is the psychosocial effects after breast
reconstruction in women who have chosen mastectomy as an intervention for breast cancer. I have
always been very interested in going into the plastic surgery field when I become a provider and I
believe researching this topic can help plastic surgeons and their staff provide appropriate patient

Lost Faith In Night By Elie Wiesel
I have not lost faith in God [despite] moments of anger and protest; sometimes I have been closer
to him for that reason. Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel explains the struggle of his changing beliefs
in God during the Holocaust in his memoir Night. In Night, Elie Wiesel, a religious boy, is taken to
several concentration camps along with other Jews, and separated from everyone in his family
except for his father. He and his father live dangerous lives in the concentration camps, from being
beaten, watching other prisoners die, and being close to death, until eventually Elie s father dies
and the camp is liberated. As Elie Wiesels time in the Holocaustlengthens, his devoutness in God
begins to diminish.

Eliezer hears a rabbi ask desperately, Where is the divine Mercy? How can I believe, how could
anyone believe, in this merciful God. (Wiesel 73) Wiesel no longer knows what to have faith in
anymore. He s hoping for any proof of God, any validation that the God he used to pray to would
help him, but always ends up disappointed. Wiesel is feeling extremely desperate and betrayed,
especially when he heard that Rabbi Eliahou had lost faith. When seeing that Rabbi Eliahou s
son tried to get rid of his father in spite of [himself], a prayer rose in [Eliezer s] heart, to the god
in whom [he] no longer believed in. (Wiesel 87) Although Wiesel continues to claim that he no
longer believes in God, a small part of him still hopes that he is out there and will save Eliezer
and the rest of the Jews. He feels reassurance and secureness when praying to God because it was
an instinct and brought him back to the days where he was very devout. He still believes God is
out there and will eventually help him in the end. Eliezer continues to believe that God is not
merciful and good, but still turns toward him in times of difficulty.
Eliezer went from being extremely religious to questioning in anger about God s ways. He shows
that only in the lowest moments does he turn his back on God, yet in times of need he prays
towards God. By the end of the book, Eliezer is still undecided; he is no longer devout,

Carl Sauer s Notion Of A Cultural Landscape And Why Is It...
Terrence McLaughlin
Landscapes, Place and People
Dr. Harriot Beazley
28 August 2015
What is Carl Sauer s notion of a cultural landscape and why is it useful for understanding the world?
Carl Sauer, one of the foremost geography scholars of the 20th century theorized that the defining
characteristics of a cultural landscape differed from those of his predecessors. His findings, while
contradictory to some of the most respected academics of his time, helped create an entirely new
way of thinking within the discipline (Sauer 1925). However, the influence of Sauer s work
extended well beyond the confines of any one discipline. He helped establish landscape studies in
cultural geography and strongly advocated for a responsible stewardship of the sustaining earth.
Additionally, he supplied an esthetic rationale and a historical perspective to the environmental
movement. His theory denounced the previously supported theory of environmental determinism,
and suggested that cultural landscapes are shaped by humans, as well as many other cultural
aspects. In a more complex sense Sauer proposed that cultural landscapes are the product of the
human population, and that the actions of humans and define the environment in which we all live.
In his own words, Sauer states that Culture is the agent, the natural area is the medium. The cultural
landscape the result.
Since Sauer first introduced his theory of cultural landscapes in 1925, much has changed in the way
our society thinks

Spiral Into Insanity In Hamlet
Hamlet s Spiral into Insanity
Hamlet s mental health wavers throughout the novel. Questions arise whether he in fact showed
insanity, or if his actions had legitimate reasons. Throughout the play, Hamlet struggles internally
and externally. Externally he wants to expose King Claudius in revenge of Hamlet seniors death.
Internally, Hamlet battles himself, in the sense that he doesn t know how to emotionally pursue the
situation. These factors ultimately lead to his abrupt road to insanity.
Soliloquies play an important role in Hamlet s development as a character. Hamlet expresses
himself with these soliloquies, along with sharing some of his personal struggles. Knowingly, he
doubts himself and his beliefs, often wondering if he makes the right decision. The conflict almost
certainly begins with himself, To be or not to be that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the
mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
and, by opposing, end them (Shakespeare 67). He clearly wants to avenge his father but struggles
internally with himself on how to go about his actions. Hamlet wants to know if all the trouble he
goes through, really worth the struggle.
Hamlet senior s sudden death played an important role in Hamlet s emotional stress. Strong
opinions point to the fact that maybe when the Ghost asked Hamlet to avenge him, it caused a
snowball effect towards Hamlet s insanity. Some believe that the Ghost put an

The Horrors Of The War II
Until The EndEven in our darkest hour, never despair, the light will come sooner than expected.
It was December 23rd , 1943, and there they were, sitting in a ghost town that was once the fine
city of Rostock. The soldiers were waiting patiently in the bombed out, abandoned airplane
factory that still looked like a war zone. The area was littered with skeletons of World War II jets
and engines that once fueled Hitler s Wehrmacht and mighty blitzkriegs that helped him conquer
most of Europe in its hey day. Hitler s army went through Europe decimating buildings and
works of art that had great historical value. The Nazi soldiers gave no thought to what they were
doing, but only wishing to please the Furor. The bones of these mighty planes looked as
sorrowful as the men were now feeling. The putrid smell of dead bodies and spent casings hung
heavy in their nostrils. The entire company was chilled to the bone by the hard sleet and snow that
had been pelting them relentlessly for the past15 hours. They were in the northeastern corner of
Germany, nestled between the mighty Warnow River and the harsh Baltic Sea in a city that once
was bustling and thriving before the allies invaded through Demark and Sweden and the red
Russians barreled through Poland. The men were glad it was almost empty, lending a sense of
peaceful serenity that almost had a way of making them feel safe. It was so quiet; almost too quiet.

Motorcycle And Sweet Grass Analysis
The novel Motorcycles and Sweet Grass by Drew Hayden Taylor, is an award winning native
comedy. Taylor includes many themes and symbols that enhance and accompany those themes.
There are many different themes and symbols that Taylor has incorporated into his novel. Some
include crows, raccoons, sweetgrass and John s motorcycle. In the novel, symbols are a big part of
story line development and help enhance themes. The symbols that I will use are the raccoons, the
crow and John s last names. These symbols relate to and enhance primarily mythology.
In the Novel Taylor uses the raccoons as a way of showing the connection between the natives and
nature. Taylor writes about how the raccoons have problems regarding John and how they appear

The crow signifies that something important and big is about to happen. In the novel the crow is
only mention once and that is when john arrives. That means that there is something about john
that is not very normal. A sign at the side of the road said: WELCOME TO OTTER LAKE,
HOME OF THE ANISHIWABE PEOPLE. I think that this quote is important because the black
crow is very symbolic and it is sitting on top of the Otter Lake sign which means something big
is going to happen there. When John sees the crow and imitates it, not like a human, but it
sounded exactly like an authentic crow call. The rider lifted his helmet an inch or so until only
its mouth was visible. And from that mouth came a loud caw. Not a human imitating a crow, but
what seemed to the crow as an authentic crow caw. When john approaches the crow sitting on
otter lake sign and looks up at it and caws but not like somebody imitating, but like a real crow,
that is very important. Its important because the crow symbolizes something big is abou to happen
and also John cawing like a real crows tells us that there is some things about him that is not quite
normal. In conclusion, the crow is the first big part in the story and the first clue telling us that john

The United States Supreme Court Cases
The United States Supreme Court consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and eight
associate justices. At its discretion, and within certain guidelines established by Congress, the
Supreme Court each year hears a limited number of the cases it is asked to decide. Those cases may
begin in the federal or state courts, and they usually involve important questions about the
Constitution or federal law. Established by the Constitution within Article III, the Supreme Court
was declared the highest federal court in the United States as well as the highest body within the
judicial branch of government. With these prestigious titles, the Supreme Court possesses final
appellate jurisdiction. They also have the power to exercise supervisory jurisdiction over the lower
courts. The Justices of the Supreme Court are chosen and then nominated by the President. After
that, they must be approved by the majority vote of the members within the Senate. When
appointed, the Justices serve until death, retirement, or impeachment. The average term of a
Supreme Court Justice, however, is most commonly 15 years. The Supreme Court assumed the
responsibility of having a new role as guardian of the rights and liberties of the individual in the
twentieth century. The history surrounding the Supreme Court helps to identify the country s
economic development, alteration in political views, and evolution of federal structure. The

Pros And Cons Of Dependence On Technology Essay
Technology surround us. Like water in the cream, people are swimming in technology each and

Augustus Caesar Biography
Augustus Caesar (63 BCE 14 CE) was the name of the first and, by all accounts, greatest emperor
of Rome. Augustus was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BCE. He was adopted

today. Many people have argued that his career fits within either the classical auteur theory or the
structuralist auteur theory, but no argument has been as strong as the one that supports Disney s
career as the commercial auteur theory. The fact that Walt Disneys work was very much affected by
elements outside of his films shows that his career fits within the commercial, or consumer, auteur
film theory. The commercial auteur theory supports the idea that the author is what a person has
cultivated to represent themselves. Catherine Grant, the writer of www.auteur.com, calls this
cultivation of an intentional self an aura. She presents the idea that the creation of an aura is
central to the success of one s commercialism. This creation will result in a sort of cult following
that will find the author s work to be a commodity. This cult will begin to seek after certain films
just because it was created by this author. This author does not have to be a director. He or she
could be an actor or anyone else involved in the filmmaking process. This theory definitely fits the
career of Walt

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autistic children experience the world a lot more differently than others. For example, children with
autism are not capable of using words, and have a hard time communicating in general by any
means. Specific sounds, like loud crashes and yelling, would bother an autistic child that wouldn t
normally bother a child that wasn t autistic. We need to learn more about autism so we can handle it,
as it is the fastest growing developmental disease in the United States.
Autism affects 1 in 150 children in the United States alone, as well as children all over the world.
The rate at which the disease is growing is the fastest ever recorded. Rising at a ... Show more

population every minute. Autism can also cause Tuberous Sclerosis; a disease that causes non
cancerous tumors to grow in the brain and other organs. One to four percent of children with autism
have this disease, which is approximately anywhere from 31,903 to 127,612 children. Autism really
is the fastest growing disease due to the increasing population numbers and the children that already
have the disease. ( Facts Statistics , par. 2,4,5,6)
Early diagnosis and treatment helps young children with autism develop to their full potential. The
primary goal of treatment is to improve the overall ability of the child to function.
Symptoms and behaviors of autism can combine in many ways and vary in severity. Also,
individual symptoms and behaviors often change over time. For these reasons, treatment strategies
fit to individual needs and family resources. But children in general with autism respond best to
highly structured and specialized treatment. A program that addresses helping parents and
improving communication, social, behavioral, adaptive, and learning aspects of a child s life will
be most successful. ( ASD Treatment Management, par. 1, 2)
While there is no actual cure for ASD, doctors can prescribe medicine and recommend a number of
classes to take to help cope. One of those classes being, Behavioral Training Management.
Behavioral training and management uses positive reinforcement, self help, and social skills
training to improve behavior

Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking, By Seamus Heaney
In life, people experience loss. Loss of a friend, a family member, or a significant other. Even
though we don t always recognize it, death is inevitable. The loss that people experience may
influence how they remember things and see the world. Seamus Heaney uses the speaker in the
poem to show one way of dealing with death is to acceptit. The nostalgic views of the speaker in
the poem shows the speakers remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries
would rot too soon, the good memories of picking the berries would always outweigh the bad of
them rotting. In Blackberry Picking , Seamus Heaney utilizes colorfully yet contrasting imagery,
diction and structure to suggest that death is inevitable and loss isn t always the easiest thing to
accept, but sometimes, that is the best way to handle it.
First, The contrasting imagery of the poem represents life and death. At first, just one, a glossy
purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. the speaker uses the ripeness of a berry to
represent a life. The red and green berries description of the bessies suggest they are not ready
yet. I interpreted the berries to also represent the end of a pregnancy, where the mother is almost
ready to give birth, but not quite yet. The glossy purple clot represents the berry finally being
ready to be picked. This could also represent the actual birth of the baby. Later in the poem Heaney
describes the berries having A rat grey fungus (19) and later describes the berries saying that The
fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would turn sour. (21) I interpreted this imagery as representing
death. As people get older, their hair often turns gray. Also, the fruit fermenting may represent
the actual final death as the fruit rots and no longer lives. The contrasting imagery of the
beginning and end of the very may very well represent the life and death of a person. As we go
through life we begin as new, small, and tiny. When we age, we often become wrinkled and the
aging shows not only with skin, but as well as the hair as stated before. As we grow older our
interpretation of the world goes from pretty bright colors to dull, boring ones. Heaney s use of the
imagery shows the audience that good things

The Toxicity Effects Of Stavudine ( D4t )
Review of the toxicity effects of Stavudine (d4t) and Zidovudine (azt) in hepatocytes during HIV
therapy.
Introduction
Since the outbreak of HIV/AIDS, an estimated 78 million people have acquired HIV and has
killed approximately 39 million people infected with the virus. The prognosis of the epidemic has
continued to vary from different countries and according to global statistics; 35 million people in
2013 were living with HIV/AIDS. 2.5 million People per annum acquire the virus and 1.5 million
die of AIDS. Inspite of the drastic transmission of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the development and
accessibility of anti retroviral drugs has decreased mortality rates by 22% from a population of

Fig 1. Structure of HIV 1. Adopted from eMedWiki.
The HIV life cycle occurs in six stages namely; Fusion, Reverse transcription, Integration,
transcription, assembly, and budding. Inorder for the virus to proceed to each stage and continue
to replicate into new viral cells, it requires catalytic enzymes such as reverse transcriptase (RT),
Intergrase (IG), and protease (PT). These replicating enzymes and cycle phases have been
identified as potential therapeutic drug targets for HIV therapy (Fig 2), therefore leading to the
development of novel anti retroviral drugs as stated below;
Fusion Inhibitors (FIs) and Entry inhibitors (EIs): They prevent entry of the viral capsid into the
host CD4+ T cell, by inhibiting the viral Gp41 and Gp120 from binding and fusing with
chemocokine coreceptors CCR5 or CXCR4 on the surface of the host cell. This further prevents
the release of viral replicating enzymes (reverse transcriptase, Intergrase, and protease) from the
viral capsid into the host cell. (Wilen et al., 2011). Examples are Enfuvirtide (FIs) and Maraviroc
(EIs).
Reverse transcriptase Inhibitors (RTIs): There are 3 different classes of RTI and these include
nucleoside RTIs (NRTIs), Non nucleotide RTIs (NNRTIs), and nucleotide RTIs (NTRTIs). Inorder
to exhibit their pharmacological effects,

An Example Of Impression Management Theory
Making good impressions in significant throughout life, it is human nature to be concerned with
how you are perceived to others. People have a certain expectation on how they view themselves
and what other to view them. Impression management is a conscious or subconscious process in
which people attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person, object or
event. They do so by regulating and controlling information in social interaction.[1] It was first
conceptualized by Erving Goffman in 1959, and then got expanded in 1967. An example of
impression management theory in play is in sports such as soccer. At an important game, a player
would want to showcase themselves in the best light possible, because there are college recruiters
watching. Without a doubt, this person would have the flashiest pair of cleats and try and perform
their best to show off their skills. Their main goal may not be to win the game but instead to
impress the college recruiters in a way that increases their chances of being chosen for a college
team.[2]
Impression management is usually used synonymously with self presentation, in which a person
tries to influence the perception of their image. The notion of impression management was first
applied in face to face communication, but then was applied to computer mediated communication.
Also this concept was applied into different field of study from academic research in the field of
psychology and sociology to practical fields such as

The Inadequacy Of Free Enterprise
The Inadequacy of Free Enterprise The perception that there is a need for government
involvement in pensions is in large part due to the fact that private pensions are decreasingly
reliable. According to Bonnar (2008), conventional wisdom suggests that private sector defined
benefit (DB) pension plans are in the midst of a funding crisis (p. 21). In terms of how this
applies to Ontario in particular, it is probably based, Bonnar (2008) argues, on the fact that the
largest 100 companies in the Toronto stock exchange saw their median funded ratios reduced
from 108 percent by the end of the year 2000 down to 79 percent in 2005. This is despite the fact
that contributions made by sponsors increased dramatically during the same period from 4
million dollars in 2000 to 14 million in 2005. This is based on a study looking at the largest 100
companies on the Toronto stock exchange index as determined by market capitalization (Bonnar,
2008, p. 21). Companies that did not offer defined benefit pension plans were excluded from the
analysis. Companies in the financial sector were reviewed separately because the financial ratios
are so drastically different in that sector of the economy than elsewhere. Robson (2008) supports the
idea that private pension funds are not sufficient to meet the retirement needs of Ontarian workers,
arguing that By now, however, evidence is overwhelming that the problems afflicting single
employer defined benefit plans are not just the result of a series

Essay on Earnings Management During Import Relief...
Earnings Management During Import Relief Investigations
Earnings Management During Import Relief Investigations was written by Jennifer J. Jones. It
illustrates her study and examination of the effects of managing reported earnings to alleviate the
costs of tariffs and quota increases on import businesses. The ITC or (United States International
Trade Commission) conducts relief investigations on companies that import goods so they can make
a determination on the import relief rate. The ITC sets the import relief after reviewing a plethora
of factors. Some factors include the profitability of the industry and the trends in profitability.
Import relief is described as a set of federally imposed regulations which are designated to ... Show

The import companies really don t lose much when the import relief goes up. The cost of
importing goods to the United States and paying the import relief is most often cheaper than
manufacturing goods in the United States. The ITC looks at a company s earnings before taxes. To
circumvent the ITC the managers of import companies often use multiple accrual accounts. By
playing somewhat of a shell game with the ITC the import companies are able to hide assets or shift
them to the next quarter to show a lower profit margin. The author conducted a cross sectional
investigation of the accrual accounts of import companies.
Her investigation revealed that the import companies suddenly report lower earnings and income
just before the investigation period. The obvious concern of the import industry is illustrated by
the drastic counter measures put in place by the managers of import companies. The methodology
of the ITC is effective at protecting domestic producers and the American economy but it puts
import companies in a difficult situation. When presented by the moral dilemma of altering
reported income import companies must make a decision which in the minds of many theorists is
not a decision at all. Because businesses are driven by profits and managers are paid by the
shareholders to protect the best interest of the company they are forced to

Critical Writing Review Of Hamlet
Many people equate good critical writing with very descriptive writing when that is simply not
true. Good critical writing should not just be an in depth description of a topic. Good critical
writing should include a clear presentation of your argument and your own evidence, a clear and
confident refusal to accept opposing conclusions from other critical writers, and a balanced
presentation of reasons why the conclusions of other writers may be accepted but are ultimately not
correct. Many people have written reviews about Kenneth Branagh s four hour uncut movie
production of Hamlet, but I m going to evaluate just four reviews to determine their credibility of
being a critical writing piece.
Alan Stone has written a drawn out review of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Branagh did not add additional dialogue to indicate this scenario, but rather a silent cut
scene. In the end, Stone declares that these criticisms are no more than quibbles about this glorious
film (Stone). Alan Stone gives extensive background of Branagh s film, is clear about his opinion,
provides lots of evidence, and includes and refutes opposing views. Berardinelli has written a piece
that includes only his opinion with no critical reasoning or specific evidence. Berardinelli gives
background information on Hamlet itself when talking about how legendary actors John Gielgud,
Richard Burton, and Laurence Olivier have taken the lead role (Berardinelli). He also gives
background to Branagh s connection with Hamlet and how it has been something of a private
obsession for Kenneth Branagh since the age of eleven (Berardinelli). He then goes into a
lengthy synopsis of Hamlet. Berardinelli is not at all on the fence about his opinion; he states his
argument very clearly early on when he says I do not make lightly, this latest version is not only
the best filmed adaption of Hamlet I have ever seen, but the best cinematic expression that I have
come across of any of Shakespeare s plays (Berardinelli). Berardinelli adds evidence to support

The Night Time
I wake up to screams in the night time. Screams I ve never heard before in times of war. No no.
This was much worse. I hear my friend come in my room and wake me up. We are under attack.
I go outside to see no other than the Trojans themselves attacking us in the ruins of Athens. They
had come from Troy. There was havoc as I watch my brothers die by flaming arrows and gruesome
impalement. I ve never seen this before; I scream and pray to the gods to make it stop and I
immediately wake up in my adobe quarters and realize it was just a nightmare. It was early in the
morning so I decided not to fall back asleep in fear that my fears will come alive once again.
Time passes. I do my normal routine. I meet my Warchief and he says he has an assignment for
me. A special assignment. He hands me a letter with all the details. I go into a private area and
read it. It says in big bold letters on the top,
Call to Arms!
Wolfgang,
You ve been chosen to go into the Underworld and retrieve the Corrupted Ashbringer sword for
Achilles. This sword is legendary and is the only thing that can end a war like this one. At this
point in time you need to go immediately to Achilles for details.
Good Luck.
Hector.
I immediately head to Piraeus just outside of Athens where Achilles is.
I stumble across Hercules on my way to meet Achilles.

America Needs Its Nerds Rhetorical Analysis
Leonid Fridman, the author of the article, America Need Its Nerds in the New York Times,
addresses how geeks and nerd are portrayed negatively in American society. He asserts the faults in
American society s values in order to convince the readers of the New York Times to appreciate the
intellectually curious instead of degrading them. Fridman integrates logos, ethos, and pathos to
support his objective of persuading the readers of the New York Times to acknowledge the
intellectuals rather than patronizing them.

Gods of Ancient Egypt Essay
Did you know that there were over 2,000 gods and goddesses in Ancient Egypt? Some gods had
the body of a human and the head of an animal. When I read that, I was shocked! I would ve

animal head stuck to a human body disgusting! I just didn t believe this, so I decided to find out

The Ancient Egyptian were polytheistic most of the time, which means that they believed in
multiple gods. When Akhenaten was pharaoh, the Egyptians were monotheistic, meaning they
worshiped only one god. He ended the worship of other gods and claimed that Aten, the lord of all

Essay on Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body
Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body
In our days, most people have set the goal and dream to have the perfect body. They believe by
having this image, they will be popular and/or attractive. People want to achieve the body that
they desire, like a super star, a hero in a Hollywood movie, a strong soldier, and an Olympic
athlete. However, what are the extent people will go to get the perfect body? The biggest problem
for those who dream to have a beautiful body today, as many people know, is the consumption of
steroids. It is amazing what people and athletes will do to enhance their performance, strength and
muscle size by taking steroids. Whether right or wrong people who use steroids to become the

These steroids are made to emphasize and promote muscle growth but without the masculinizing the
user as much as testosterone does (Silverstein, p.18). Anabolic steroids were first used to help
World War II victims put on weight at the end of the war. Anabolic steroids were intended for the
sick people, but instead of this, healthy people often abuse these steroids because they want to gain
muscle (Morris, p.230).
There are three major benefits from steroid use and they are: first, athletes will attain a greater
increase in lean muscle mass and strength when it is used with a combination of hard training and
the drug; second, the athlete s body suffers less breakdown as this decrease in muscle breakdown
and recovery time permits more frequent training sessions at higher intensity and for longer
periods of time (Lukas, p.7); and third but not least benefit, the increased aggressiveness they are
believed to simulate as this increased aggressiveness may drive athletes to train harder and longer
without the usual fatigue (Rogak, p.11). Other positive effects of using steroids are increases in:
storage of muscle glycogen; blood volume; a general boasting of the immune system; and the
reduction of body fat percentage. The effects are maintained as long as the athlete continues the
steroid use (Silverstein, p.17).
Unfortunately, anabolic steroids have many side effects. Some short term side effects include high

  • 2. It Is No Secret That Women Often Change Their Bodies In It is no secret that women often change their bodies in order to meet the societal expectations that are portrayed in the media. The patriarchy and the male gaze dictate the ideal female which is depicted on television, in movies, and in magazines. Woman most often alter their weight in order to match the small slim physique of models. Weight is one of the main aspects of the female body that the patriarchy controls. Woman are taught by society that their natural body is not beautiful and that they must conform to the societal standard of a thin, size 0 woman in order to accommodate the male gaze. The patriarchy dictates this of a woman in order to maintain male dominance in society. However, these expectations have a negative effect on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In society there is a distinct correlation between beauty and wealth. When food became more accessible in the 20th century, the wealthy weren t the only people who could afford to eat and the cultural expectation shifted from who could eat the most to who could control their food intake. Because food accessible changed the societal belief in the ideal woman, it also changed the relationship between women and food. The ideal woman has a cool relationship with food. Susan Bordo writes in Hunger as Ideology, Undominated by unsatisfied internal need, she eats not only feely but without deep desire and without apparent consequences. Women are not supposed to crave food and they are not to over indulge. The perfect female eats not out of want but out of need for nourishment and she is only to eat the bare minimum that she needs. When on a date a woman must not order a steak and potato, but must ask for a salad and water. Oh and god forbid a woman clears her plate, she must always leave food leftover to prove that she didn t need to eat everything. Society expects women to not love eating but only do it because they have to. Women should not receive gratification from eating but instead receive it through nourishing others. Men eat, women prepare. Men are allowed to have healthy appetites for food just like they are allowed to have an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mercury Athletic MERCURY ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR Problem statement: West Coast Fashions, Inc a large business of men s and women s apparel decided to dispose of one of their segments; Mercury Athletic. John Liedtke, head of the business development for Active Gear, Inc saw it has a possible opportunity for them to acquire it. The footwear industry is very competitive, with low growth and stable profit margins. AGI is very profitable but it is smaller than its competitors, which is becoming a disadvantage. Therefore, Liedtke believes that if they takeover Mercury will double AGI s revenue, increase it s leverage with contract manufactures and expand its presence with key retailers and distributions. Liedtke is evaluating the company in order to find out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to look at it because it is a measure that investors can use to evaluate the financial health of the company. However Liedkte being more conservative he says that the combined businesses could achieve and EBIT of 9 % and when looking at the projections for Mercury from 2007 2011 we can see a growth in earnings. So then what are the cash flows if Liedtke thinks the combined businesses will have a revenue growth of 2% in year 2011 considering we discounting back to 2006. We need to calculate the Free Cash Flow (FCF) in order to determine if the Net profit Value is positive or negative. Knowing that we will know if the acquisition should be undertaken. When looking at the excel sheet we can see that the NVP using the discount rate given by the case 7.65 % with a growth rate of 3 % gives us an NVP= $ 275,399.78. Therefore the NVP s value compares the value of the investment made today to the same value of the amount in the future. So that is the amount AGI needs to pay up front. The free cash flows are made from the financial statement given in the case and were determined using the FCF method; EBIT (1 Tax Rate) + Depreciation amp; Amortization Change in Net Working Capital Capital ... In what was expected to be an entertaining fight for the main Card for Showtime became the fight of the year up to this point. Ortiz a boxer with huge Cuban background was always going to present trouble for the wild puncher/brawler Wilder. In the first round the first thing that was noticeable was the size difference between the two. Wilder has a five inch reach advantage which was insane. Ortiz was very hurt, but got up and made it three more seconds to the bell. The non stop action wouldn t stop there. The sixth was another fun round with the two guys just throwing and doing damage on each other. Wilder edged him out by being more active and dictating the fight. This point Wilder was taking over. • 5. The Effects Of Malnutrition On Indi The Facts Essay Critical Review Child malnutrition in India The Facts Malnutrition in India is a silent emergency (Leadership Agenda for Action, 2009) India speaks the language of growth and progress. Malnutrition however, continues to haunt the country. India is home to 40 percent of malnourished children in the world. Every year 2.5 million children die in India, accounting for one in five deaths in the world. More than half of these deaths could be prevented if children were well nourished . Malnutrition is a serious condition in which the body does not get the right balance of nutrients and calories needed to sustain good health and development. It has two sides undernutrition and obesity /overweight. Undernutrition arises mainly as a result of inadequate or unbalanced diets, but is also caused by poor nutrient absorption or a loss of nutrients due to illness (2000, Smith LC and Haddad L). Undernutrition manifests in stunting, underweight, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies. Micronutrients refer to vitamins and minerals. In this paper the term malnutrition refers to undernutrition. The prevalence of underweight children in India is among the highest in the world, and is nearly double that of Sub Saharan Africa (2012, UNICEF). According to the National Family Health Survey 3 (2006, NFHS 3) , 42.5 per cent of children under the age of five years are underweight (low weight for age), 48 per cent are stunted (low height for age), 19.8 per cent are wasted (low weight for ... • 6. Causes Of The Great Depression The Great Depression was an economic decline that occurred in North America, Europe, and other manufacturing countries of the world. It began in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. It is known as the longest and most severe depression in the Western World. It is said that the Great Depression began with a tragic collapse of stock market prices on the New York Stock Exchange in October of 1929. Over the next three years, stock prices continued to fall, and in 1932, they had dropped to only about 20 percent of their value they had in 1929. This decline strained banks and many other financial organizations, especially those who had stocks. By 1933, almost 11,000 of the 25,000 banks had failed. During the Great Depression, shantytowns appeared as unemployed people were removed from their homes. Poor agricultural practices and many years of drought are the cause of the Dust Bowl. When there was enough rainfall, the land produced lots of crops. But as the droughts deepened, farmers kept plowing and planting and nothing would grow. The ground cover that normally would have held the soil in place, was gone. As the Plains s winds blew across the fields, it would pick up the leftover dust and form clouds of dust in the sky. The sky would be dark for days and in some places the dust would drift like snow. The Dust Bowl affected mostly the American Great Plains region, the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Dust Bowl drove out hundreds of thousands of people, and because it happened around the Great Depression, many people had trouble getting back into the grove of things after moving to places around California. • 7. Prosecutors’ Charging Decisions in Sexual Assault Cases Prosecutors Charging Decisions in Sexual Assault Cases June 8, 2012 Case screening is the gateway to the criminal justice system. Prosecutors, acting as gatekeepers, decide which instances of alleged victimization will be passed on for adjudication by the courts (Frohmann, 1991, p. 213). As Supreme Court Justice Jackson acknowledged in 1940, the prosecutor has more control over life, liberty, and reputation than any other person in America (Davis, 1969, p.190). Frohmann examined the powerful discretion prosecutors have in their justification for sexual assault case rejections in her research article, Discrediting Victim s allegations of Sexual Assault: Prosecutorial Accounts of Case Rejections. Her research was replicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spohn, Beichner, and Davis Frenzel do not conduct a field study as Frohmann does, instead they examined all sexual assault cases cleared by arrest in Miami Florida in 1997. They did however replicate Frohmann s design of interviewing a sample of the prosecutors who handled the cases. By using this different method of research, Spohn, Beichner, and Davis Frenzel s are able to show the frequency in which prosecutors used discrepant accounts and ulterior motives to reject cases. This extends upon Frohmann s research. Their findings that, charging decisions primarily reflect the prosecutor s assessment of the likelihood of conviction (Spohn, et al. 2001, p. 206) is consistent with Frohmann s Findings. They also agreed with Frohmann s categories of typifications, however they found that a substantial amount of cases were rejected for reasons other than discrediting the victim such as, the victim s failure to appear for a pretrial interview, refusal to cooperate in the prosecution of the case, or admission that the charges were fabricated (Spohn, et al. 2001). Spohn, Beichner, and Davis Frenzel discuss Steffensmeier s (1998) focal concerns perspective. They conclude that the focal concerns which guide prosecutors charging decisions are the seriousness of the crime, the amount of harm to the victim, and the suspect s culpability. • 10. My Opinion Of The Initial Training For The Program Your opinion of the initial training for the program: During the winter session, we had a course in which is intend to get students accustomed to the software, we were given a basic tax assignment to complete. This was a great way to get used to a new software that we have never experienced before. It was a basic returnwith dependents, W2 s, Interest, dividends, etc. We worked with friends to figure out this new software which was a big help, as one may know something you don t. Prior to the assignment, our professor (clovey) give us a link to a Youtube video in which they also explain how to get on the site and sign up for the software. These videos is a tutorial to help you complete the basic tax returns, but for advance, it tends to be a little more complicated. As for the tax laws training, I think our Professor s (Clovey/ Mohammad) did an excellent job in giving us an insight of IRS rules we need to know. We were giving Publication 4012, which is an easy guide to figure out who is qualified or not. We read about qualified dependent s, medicaid /medicare, EIC (Earned Income Credit), itemization, standard deduction, Education Credit and much more about these rules and exceptions. The class was held every other sunday (two time each month), and we would have to read prior to class on new subject so when we go in, the topic that are being covered won t confuse us. Comparative Analysis of Two Producers Essay BAP210.1 Report Comparative Analysis of Two Producers Rochelle Heffernan (104371) The following report introduces two producers I draw inspiration from, and am influenced by; Rick Rubin and Ken Scott. Firstly to critically analyze their bodies of work we must first understand the role of a producer and what classifies an individual as a producer or engineer. A producer must be able to oversee and effectively manage the recording, they must be able to understand the bands vision, they must have an overall goal as to what they wish to produce with the band, they must be creatively innovative and true to the bands and their own style, they must effectively portray the story ... (2008) As a future engineer I found it befalling to discover that Rubin had little to no musical theory knowledge or any musical or engineering knowledge what so ever. So what is it that makes this man so success? Why can he of all people draw great performances from his clients? What makes Rick Rubin a Grammy winning engineer, an influential musical man? Producing such a diverse selection of musicians, Rubin is a listener before he is an engineer; refusing to work in an office setup he uses his historical L.A home to meet with musicians. Rubin believes that music isn t made behind a work desk or over the phone; music must first be experienced before it is produced. It can therefore be assumed that Rubin s successful career is due to underlining appreciation for the music he is producing. He doesn t know much about music, but he knows what works and this pro found style of engineering through listening rather than through use of techniques has built an almost instantly recognizable personal style that can be heard on each record he has worked on. • 12. The Main Issue In This Article Is That The Education System The main issue in this article is that the education system is failing to deliver valuable education while promoting inequality among the student who can and can t afford an education. One of the reasons for the poor quality of education is that students are not recognizing the importance of knowledge. People have overlooked the real importance of attending a university that is to gain knowledge that can later be applied in order to achieve a certain outcome, such as advanced performance in their career. ResponseFrom an early age, we see kids that don t want to go to school anymore. They see school as a chore rather than a place for educational growth. Kids at a very young age begin to lose interest in the education system which is why students at an older age learn how to be passive learners instead of active learners. In passive learning, students are temporary memorizing information to be used in a test. Once the test is completed they simply forget the information. Their main concern is to ace the test and receive a passing grade. In active learning, students are actually engaging in learning and retain all the information to gain knowledge of the subject being taught. In order to better prepare kids for life, America should establish a ... A soft kiss from your lover s lips can cause you to drift in the moment for hours on end and make you want to kiss your lover for hours on end. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each person woman or man, the kiss is how they feel about you, and how you feel about them. A kiss should never be used as a stepping stone to elevate the relationship to next level of intimacy. Here is what I mean; a lot of people male and female only kiss one another to proceed hurriedly to sex. However, a kiss is to create desire and passion. A kiss should be soft, gentle and deliberate. A great kiss is when your mate pays close attention to your lips, both the top and bottom lip. The inside of your lips, as well as the outer lip get special attention. A great kisser kisses your entire lips, all the way around your lips, and pays special attention to the corner of your lips, he /she pauses and/or stops and kisses both corners of your mouth really stops to enjoy your lips. Think about this for a minute, what is the point in someone having nice kissing lips, if they are not used for kissing, or they do not know how to enjoy kissing? This may sound is if I am talking in circles; however, a kiss is only as special as the person who is delivering the kiss, to the person who receiving the kiss! A kiss is ... Out of the list that he displays in this novel, there are three elements that really draw through the entire piece. These being: foreshadowing, irony, and setting. The three listed are the devices Irving uses to the most extent and impact the story more than all the others. Foreshadowing is the clearest to spot throughout the chapters. Launching in the second chapter, The Armadillo, was when Owen Meany first came across as a Christ figure. Johnny s cousins come to 80 Front Street to visit for Thanksgiving and Owen Meany is upstairs in the attic with Johnny. Hesitantly, Johnny introduces the cousins to Owen, scared of how they ll treat Owen, or how they ll treat Johnny for being friends with him. After the cousins declare how wimpy Owen is and make fun of his voice, they see Owen in the attic with his arms behind his back (being armless) and the sun shining from behind him, making him look like the ultimate Christ figure. Black American men were banned from being able to play professional baseball from the early 1900 s till the late 1940 s. This sparked the creation of what was known as the Negro Leagues. A number of weight loss programs including HCG injections are coming up purported to cure obesity. What is HCG and why should you know of it? HCG injections contain the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin typically secreted by the pregnant mother s placenta following successful conception. It is reason behind the pink bar of a pregnancy test strip attesting successful pregnancy. HCG is being used to deal with problems regarding conceiving babies from quite some time by medical practitioners. When did it all start? The revelation that HCG can burn fat started first in the 1950 s when Dr. Albert T. Simeons, an endocrinologist from Britain started using HCG injections to treat people with obesity. One of the probable and not yet established role of human chorionic gonadotrophin is that it burns belly fat to provide ATP or energy for the fetus, Dr. Simeons concluded from this belief that HCG must also facilitate a rapid burning of fat from all portions of the body at all times. But no substantial cases of actual weight loss through only HCG injections have come up till date. In a more recent time, Kevin Trudeau in his 2007 book claimed that HCG injections were the magic secret to quick weight loss. The funny part is Kevin is not even remotely associated with medicine or health; he is just another shady businessman. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These vital relationships make stories come alive. But certain connections in stories are detrimental to the characters. These can actually make the story that much more interesting. Brett Ashley and Jake Barnes. Tom and Daisy Buchanan. These are the relationships that ruin themselves but become ubiquitous for their violence and conflict. It challenges interpersonal connections that we ve come to know so well. Although Humbert continually proves himself as an unreliable narrator who can t repent because he constantly manipulates the truth, he actually does repent his sins because he ends up realizing the atrocity and irreparable damage of his actions. We can see that Humbert never truly repents his sins because he ultimately writes this novel for the jury to read; therefore, he can completely justify his wrongdoings without repenting at all. Humbert s ability to make the jury the reader take his side is seen many times in the novel when he breaks the fourth wall: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the majority of sex offenders...are innocuous, inadequate, passive, timid strangers who merely ask the community to allow them to pursue their practically harmless, so called aberrant behavior...without ... • 22. The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term Utilitarianism. Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a restricted manner that is divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often attach everything with the element of pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the theory. However, the proponents of the theory of utilitarianism such as Epicurus and Bentham asserted that it was pleasurein itself and the exclusion of pain. Therefore, the moralityprinciple of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest happiness principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive results that are associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when they are linked to the negative outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness refers to the absence of pain when there is pleasure, while unhappiness is characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on the theory of utilitarianism, morality is founded on humanactivities that are aimed to promote happiness and pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be pleasure. Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human beings possess. He illustrates the view by stating that, I have dwelt on this point as being a necessary part of perfectly just conception of utility or happiness considered the directive rule of human conduct (p:11). Terrence McLaughlin Landscapes, Place and People Dr. Harriot Beazley 28 August 2015 What is Carl Sauer s notion of a cultural landscape and why is it useful for understanding the world? Carl Sauer, one of the foremost geography scholars of the 20th century theorized that the defining characteristics of a cultural landscape differed from those of his predecessors. His findings, while contradictory to some of the most respected academics of his time, helped create an entirely new way of thinking within the discipline (Sauer 1925). However, the influence of Sauer s work extended well beyond the confines of any one discipline. He helped establish landscape studies in cultural geography and strongly advocated for a responsible stewardship of the sustaining earth. Additionally, he supplied an esthetic rationale and a historical perspective to the environmental movement. His theory denounced the previously supported theory of environmental determinism, and suggested that cultural landscapes are shaped by humans, as well as many other cultural aspects. In a more complex sense Sauer proposed that cultural landscapes are the product of the human population, and that the actions of humans and define the environment in which we all live. In his own words, Sauer states that Culture is the agent, the natural area is the medium. The cultural landscape the result. Externally he wants to expose King Claudius in revenge of Hamlet seniors death. Internally, Hamlet battles himself, in the sense that he doesn t know how to emotionally pursue the situation. Hamlet expresses himself with these soliloquies, along with sharing some of his personal struggles. Knowingly, he doubts himself and his beliefs, often wondering if he makes the right decision. The conflict almost certainly begins with himself, To be or not to be that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles and, by opposing, end them (Shakespeare 67). • 43. The Auteur Theory Of Walt Disney s Film Film has been a prominent topic in society since its conception. One of the most important physical areas of film creation is located in Hollywood, California. Hollywood has produced some of the most recognizable directors and film creators. Walter Elias Disney is one major example of this. He is still extremely well known because of the vast business he created that is still thriving today. Many people have argued that his career fits within either the classical auteur theory or the structuralist auteur theory, but no argument has been as strong as the one that supports Disney s career as the commercial auteur theory. The fact that Walt Disneys work was very much affected by elements outside of his films shows that his career fits within the commercial, or consumer, auteur film theory. The commercial auteur theory supports the idea that the author is what a person has cultivated to represent themselves. Catherine Grant, the writer of www.auteur.com, calls this cultivation of an intentional self an aura. She presents the idea that the creation of an aura is central to the success of one s commercialism. This creation will result in a sort of cult following that will find the author s work to be a commodity. This cult will begin to seek after certain films just because it was created by this author. • 45. Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking, By Seamus Heaney In life, people experience loss. Loss of a friend, a family member, or a significant other. Even though we don t always recognize it, death is inevitable. The loss that people experience may influence how they remember things and see the world. Seamus Heaney uses the speaker in the poem to show one way of dealing with death is to acceptit. The nostalgic views of the speaker in the poem shows the speakers remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries would rot too soon, the good memories of picking the berries would always outweigh the bad of them rotting. In Blackberry Picking , Seamus Heaney utilizes colorfully yet contrasting imagery, diction and structure to suggest that death is inevitable and loss isn t always the easiest thing to accept, but sometimes, that is the best way to handle it. First, The contrasting imagery of the poem represents life and death. At first, just one, a glossy purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. the speaker uses the ripeness of a berry to represent a life. The red and green berries description of the bessies suggest they are not ready yet. I interpreted the berries to also represent the end of a pregnancy, where the mother is almost ready to give birth, but not quite yet. The glossy purple clot represents the berry finally being ready to be picked. This could also represent the actual birth of the baby. Later in the poem Heaney describes the berries having A rat grey fungus (19) and later describes the berries saying that The fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would turn sour. (21) I interpreted this imagery as representing death. As people get older, their hair often turns gray. Also, the fruit fermenting may represent the actual final death as the fruit rots and no longer lives. The contrasting imagery of the beginning and end of the very may very well represent the life and death of a person. As we go through life we begin as new, small, and tiny. When we age, we often become wrinkled and the aging shows not only with skin, but as well as the hair as stated before. As we grow older our interpretation of the world goes from pretty bright colors to dull, boring ones. Heaney s use of the imagery shows the audience that good things ... • 47. An Example Of Impression Management Theory Making good impressions in significant throughout life, it is human nature to be concerned with how you are perceived to others. People have a certain expectation on how they view themselves and what other to view them. Impression management is a conscious or subconscious process in which people attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person, object or event. They do so by regulating and controlling information in social interaction.[1] It was first conceptualized by Erving Goffman in 1959, and then got expanded in 1967. An example of impression management theory in play is in sports such as soccer. At an important game, a player would want to showcase themselves in the best light possible, because there are college recruiters watching. Without a doubt, this person would have the flashiest pair of cleats and try and perform their best to show off their skills. Their main goal may not be to win the game but instead to impress the college recruiters in a way that increases their chances of being chosen for a college team.[2] Impression management is usually used synonymously with self presentation, in which a person tries to influence the perception of their image. The notion of impression management was first applied in face to face communication, but then was applied to computer mediated communication. Also this concept was applied into different field of study from academic research in the field of psychology and sociology to practical fields such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Inadequacy Of Free Enterprise The Inadequacy of Free Enterprise The perception that there is a need for government involvement in pensions is in large part due to the fact that private pensions are decreasingly reliable. According to Bonnar (2008), conventional wisdom suggests that private sector defined benefit (DB) pension plans are in the midst of a funding crisis (p. 21). In terms of how this applies to Ontario in particular, it is probably based, Bonnar (2008) argues, on the fact that the largest 100 companies in the Toronto stock exchange saw their median funded ratios reduced from 108 percent by the end of the year 2000 down to 79 percent in 2005. This is despite the fact that contributions made by sponsors increased dramatically during the same period from 4 million dollars in 2000 to 14 million in 2005. This is based on a study looking at the largest 100 companies on the Toronto stock exchange index as determined by market capitalization (Bonnar, 2008, p. 21). Companies that did not offer defined benefit pension plans were excluded from the analysis. Companies in the financial sector were reviewed separately because the financial ratios are so drastically different in that sector of the economy than elsewhere. Robson (2008) supports the idea that private pension funds are not sufficient to meet the retirement needs of Ontarian workers, arguing that By now, however, evidence is overwhelming that the problems afflicting single employer defined benefit plans are not just the result of a series ... By playing somewhat of a shell game with the ITC the import companies are able to hide assets or shift them to the next quarter to show a lower profit margin. The author conducted a cross sectional investigation of the accrual accounts of import companies. Her investigation revealed that the import companies suddenly report lower earnings and income just before the investigation period. The obvious concern of the import industry is illustrated by the drastic counter measures put in place by the managers of import companies. The methodology of the ITC is effective at protecting domestic producers and the American economy but it puts import companies in a difficult situation.
