Contrast And Attitude Of American Jews During Ww2
Comparison, Contrast and Attitude of American Jews in the WW2 The World War II started in the
late 1930s. The war mainly affected Europe and Asia the neighboring nations. Following the NAZI
xenophobia against the Jews, there was continuous mass murder against the Jews, which forced
most of them to migrate to buffer zones and those that had the ability migrated to other continents.
The government of the United Stateshad signed a quota with the Austrian government, as a way to
take care of the refugees, but the government did not act on the matter until late in 1944 when
President Franklin Roosevelt recognized the problem due to the pressure coming from the Jewish
community in the United States and some officials that made it possible... Show more content on

In 1933, the rise of Hitler Adolf in Germany triggered the widespread persecution of Jews in
Europe, particularly Germany. Different Jews all over the continent wished to flee the nations in
Europe to escape the political, social and economic oppression in Germany. However, there were
few countries that were willing to accept Jews as fugitive in their nations. Under the leadership of
Hitler, there were over 6 million Jews that were persecuted all over the world in a bid to eliminate
Jews from the face of the Earth (HISTORY.com).
The American traditional policy hindered the intervention of the American government through
restricting the quotas. The quota system only permitted a maximum of 25957 Germans to enter the
borders of the United States. In reference to the stock market crisis in 1929, there was a rise in
unemployment in the United States leading to the further emphasis on immigration policies of the
United States (HISTORY.com).
After the Shoah (Holocaust) had arrived the American shores, the United States had already
joined the World War II. As a consequence of the European Jewry decline in the 1930s and 1940s,
the American Jews realized that they were in a position to assist the embattled Jews in European
nations. As a consequence, the American Jews, previously ignored as an epicenter of Jewish
power, particularly as a spiritual center, was placed in a position where it acted as the leading role
in the battle of the interests of Jews (Zola and

Anorexia Vs Bulimia
Eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia cause dramatic weight fluctuation, interfere with
normal daily life, and can permanently affect their health.Generally, eating disorders involve
self critical, negative thoughts and feelings about body weight and food, and eating habits that
disrupt normal body function and daily activities. People with anorexia have an extreme fear of
weight gain and a distorted view of their body size and shape. As a result, they strive to maintain
a very low body weight. Some restrict their food intake by dieting, fasting, or excessive exercise.
People with anorexia try to eat as little as possible, and take in as few calories as they can,
frequently obsessing over food intake. Bulimia is characterized by habitual binge eating and
purging.
Some research suggests that media images contribute to the rise in the incidence of eating
disorders. Most celebrities in advertising, movies, TV, and sports programs are very thin, and this
may lead girls to think that the ideal of beauty is extreme thinness. ... Show more content on

Both disorders can involve compulsive exercise or other forms of purging food eaten, such as by
self induced vomiting or laxative use. Although anorexia and bulimia are very similar, people with
anorexia are usually very thin and underweight but those with bulimia may be a normal weight or
even overweight. With anorexia, the body goes into starvation mode and the lack of nutrition can
cause a drop in blood pressure, pulse, and breathing rate, hair loss and fingernail breakage, loss of
periods, lanugo hair, lightheadedness and inability to concentrate, anemia, swollen joints, brittle
bones. With bulimia, frequent vomiting and lack of nutrients can cause constant stomach pain,
damage to the stomach and kidneys, tooth decay, loss of periods, loss of the mineral potassium
which can contribute to heart problems and even

Japan And Japan
When it comes to under five moralities, again Japan has fared better than the United Kingdom.
In 1990, the under five mortalities were 9 in the UK and 6 in Japan, in 2012 this is now 5 and 3
respectively. Japan, according to health outcomes is a much healthier country in both life
expectancy and under five mortalities. Similar to each country s GDP, both countries have fairly
similar health expenditure with Japan overall spending more of its GDP on health. Whilst it is
easy to assume better infrastructure and staff will lead to better health outcomes, this is not always
the case. As shown by the USA which has some of the worst health outcomes in the developed
world, despite spending 17% of its GDP on health in contrast to Japan s 10% and... Show more

As shown by Wilkinson and Pickett, this trust leads to social capital, which has been shown to
reduce mortality due to lower stress, less crime. Whilst looking at the two developing countries we
have observed that inequality and the perception of inequality can lead to lower social capital
which in turn leads to worsening health outcomes. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the
argument that cultural factors such as diet and general well being may play an important role in
improvement in health outcomes. However, we can see that societal factors play an important
factor in health outcomes and it is not completely correlated with health expenditure or overall GDP.
Growing Economies, Different Health Outcomes?
Both developing countries that have been analysed have also been targeted by the United Nation s
Millennium Development Goals. A significant portion of these goals are directly targeted at
improving Health outcomes. Brazil became one of the greatest economic success stories of the
late 20th and early 21st century, being famously labelled one of the BRIC economies; a group
of economies which were labelled as the next largest economy. What made this growth so
important was this is one of a series of periods of economic growth in Brazil, but this is one of the
first which saw GINI drop to a low level in comparison to previous growth in Brazil. As outlined by

William Lackey s The Scandal Of Jewish Rage In William Styron
Having a Sophie s Choice is a term that has become infamous after the publication of William
Styron s Sophie s Choice in 1979. It is a noun that describes choosing between two difficult
decisions that have the same outcome. In the story there is a writer living in New York who
meets an odd couple, Sophie Zawistowaska and Nathan Landau. They are lovers, but in the story
Sophie s past in Auschwitz is revealed in greater detail. Through that, it is revealed that Sophie s
Choice was the unforgivable act of Sophie choosing her son over her daughter, leaving her daughter
to die in the extermination camp. In Sophie s Choice there is evidence of violence, explicit sexual
content, and offensive language, but the effect the Holocausthas on characters of different
backgrounds causes this to be a text that should be taught in a high schoolclassroom. The main
themes found in Sophie s Choice include the Holocaust, mental illness, friendship and betrayal.
The Holocaust is seen prominently in this story because it was what the one of the main
characters, Sophie Zawistowaska, had to live through. Her lover Nathan Landau had trouble with
substance abuse, and he was also a paranoid schizophrenic. This was a theme that troubled some
people. Nathan was a much scrutinized character. In Lackey s The Scandal of Jewish Rage in
William Styron s Sophie s Choice, he talks about how there are some scholars who believe that
Nathan Landau did not have any reasonable background to be a

Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay
I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and
the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from
mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two.
The first summary of Andrew Sullivan s essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan s stance of the
issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will
dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan s
case. The second summary is of Bennett s essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point
out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the
progression of homosexual equality in America.
Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the
marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay
marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement s actual
desire is the fundamental right to marriage.
Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition
before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be
given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married.
Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the
institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be
accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very
foundations of marriage.
Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The
change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional
definition of marriage. Simply allowing gays to marry would contradict some of the worlds major
religions that play

My First Small Business Adventure
Growing up as a middle class child with both parents working, I learned to appreciate the little
details. In order to grow my parents had to deal with a lot of un ethical people and the wrongs
they did to them. Although they had many opportunities to develop quickly at the expense of
others, they always denied the idea of taking advantage of them. Instead, my parents chose the
longer but righteous road. Through their life choices and their struggles, I learned to be fair to
others as I would like others to be fair to me, how to be humble, and help develop others as much
as I was developing. Love your neighbor as yourself. Religion wasn t harshly enforced, but my
parents implemented a lot of the lessons that came from the words of the bible. I learned not to
take advantage of people. As a young child my first small business adventure was my lemonade
stand. Pricing my lemonade was the hardest thingI had to think about because I wanted to make
money but, I didn t want people not to purchase it.
There was my first business lesson. I needed to be fair to others as I would be to myself. I
experienced that if I was giving my family a discount everyone else deserved one too because it
was the exact same cup, with the same amount. I couldn t turn around and sell it to others at a
higher price just because I knew they didn t know my family was getting it for less. I felt better
to know I was being a good person even though I didn t make a lot of money. Making money for the

Modernity And The Historical Period
According to Marshall Berman, Modernity is a term of art used in the Humanities and Social
Sciences to designate both a historical period as well as the ensemble of a particular socio
cultural norms attitudes and practices that arose in post medieval Europe and have developed
since in various ways and at various times around the world. (Berman 2010, 15 36) The term
Modernity was coined by Charles Baudelaire. It also refers to post medieval, post traditional
historical period which is marked by a move from feudalism towards modernization (capitalism,
industrialisation, rationalisation). But conceptually, it also relates to the modern era and to
modernism, but forms a distinct concept. In sociology, a discipline that arose in... Show more

Stained Glass
Stained glass was made during the Gothic period of art history. In the center of the program is the
Virgin Mary, enthroned and crowned. The crown means that she is the Queen of Heaven.
Cruciform nimbuses/halos frame the heads of both her and the Christ child. This is an indicator of
their divinity. Marys foot is resting on a stool that is covered by a rug. The throne is held up by
the pillars that are held by the angels beneath it. In the segment above Mary s head is a dove
representing the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Christ child sits on Mary s lap. In his left hand,
he is holding an open book with a quote from Isaiah from the Old Testament; his right hand is
raised in blessing. The quote is Every valley shall be exalted. This refers to the leveling of lands
and the creation of roads for the coming of the Messiah, JesusChrist.... Show more content on

The censer was used by the priest to bless icons. Two angels on both sides of Christ hold candles
symbolic of Christ as holy illumination. The Three Temptations of Christ by the devil are shown
the bottom three segments as a symbol of Christ s humanity. In the six segments on top, Jesus is
shown performing his first miracle at the Wedding in Cana with the help of Mary s intercession.
His miracle was the first of seven signs in John s Gospel through which Jesus attained divine
status and therefore, has symbolic importance of his divinity. When the wedding runs out of wine,
Christ tells Mary that he will turn the water into wine. Mary tells the waiter not to question Christ
and to bring the water. Christ turns water to wine at the wedding. The wine is a symbol of Christ
s blood, a part of the Eucharist, and the water is a symbol of the Holy

Australia s International Obligations Analysis
Australia s international obligations are framed by the United Nations, as this organisation is
paramount to enforcing international law and fundamental human rights. The United Nations (UN)
was founded in 1945, shortly after World War II, by a group of representatives from fifty nations.
Their motive was to establish a stable forum in which international issues could be discussed and
prevent wars between powerful nations. The power and purpose of the UN is bound by its founding
charter, similar to a constitution, containing one hundred and eleven articles which authorize the
rights and obligations of members (United Nations, 2017). All states are of equal sovereignty and

Australia s international obligations extend extra territorially according to these agreements and
Australia is legally responsible for any contravention of obligations, regardless of whether or not an
Australian official was liable. However, the international obligations vary significantly between
Australia, PNG and Nauru, creating much difficulty in terms of effectively implementing these
obligations. For instance, Nauru is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, nor do they have the
domestic legal structure to implement such obligations, due to the impoverished state of the
country (Dr Hathaway, 2016). PNG faces similar challenges in regards to the socio economic state
of the country and struggles to implement such obligations, despite being a signatory to the Refugee
Convention. Neither of these designated offshore processing states have the legal capacity to
uphold international obligations, thus creating great potential for violations of these obligations
(Archbold, 2015). This impacts the Australian government as it is difficult to regulate activity in
the regional processing centres and if obligations were to be breached, the government would be
responsible regardless of who contravened. The Hon Chris Bowen MP commented on this issue,
claiming that

Investing millions a year, stock investors never thought the system would fail, but one day, it all

The stock market is a great way to buy part of a company gain or loose money depending on how
the company is making money buy buying a share. The stock market is owning a small piece of the
company; the stock market is owning a piece of a business (Christie 5). Therefore, investing in

For example, colleges probably lost a lot of students this year. Finally, children were very educated
and a lot of them spoiled in the 20 s. if 100$ could buy a car and stocks went down 40% in a day,
the Great Depression was upon America faster then they knew it.
The Great Depression of the 1930 s was the worst economic time for Americans because of the
lack of money circulation when the stocks crashed. Over two million homeless people lived in
America during that time so they, built shantytowns on the outskirts of cities or along roadways.
The areas were plagued by crime and disease. (Callan 12). In addition, they were probably not
very happy because they were robbed many times and generally sick. Also, it was really hard to
live in shantytowns because they didn t have lots to do. Children who had been fine in the 30 s
had to deal with a lot; Children were hit hard by the depression. Fathers often left their families in
a desperate search to find work (17). This shows that children grew up a lot quicker in the thirties
then most times. In contrast, the children were expected to do too much in the depression. Almost
everyone lost everything in the 30 s and Older Americans who had planned to use their savings for
retirement found themselves suddenly penniless. (Christie 21). However, it is good the government

Winter Wonderland Research Paper
Living in a winter wonderland can be enjoyable with lots of snow for skiing and freezing weather
and ice for skating. Cold climates can have their drawbacks as well. For instance, if you live in
areas that have freezing temperatures, then you might be familiar with what damage frozen water
pipes in your home can do. A sudden or unexpected drop in temperature, especially at night, may
catch you off guard if you have not taken the proper precautions to winterize your home s water
pipes. Then your winter wonderland can become can become a living nightmare.
It is most unpleasant to deal with frozen water pipes on the outside or underneath your home. In a
scenario of having water pipes freeze and burst inside the house, it can be downright disastrous.
When water is inside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you do not know a pipe has frozen and has been damaged, when the frozen water thaws enough
to allow water flow to return, this is when unexpected flooding can occur due to a burst pipe.
Frozen water applies thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch on a pipe, so it is no
wonder that they sometimes break. If you happen to be away from home when this happens, it
spells disaster.
If you have a pipe that burst unexpectedly, shuts off the valve to that pipe. You may need to turn
off all the water to your home. The more quickly you can get the water off, the less flooding there
will be. If appliances or any electrical thing is getting wet, turn off the electricity first, then the
water. After you get the water off, clean up the flood as quickly as you can to prevent damage to
your floors, walls, appliance, cabinets, or furniture.
If plumbing is not your thing, then call one. Hopefully, you only have one pipe that has burst,
although, there could be more than one. Inspect all your pipes before turning any water back on,
and that means underneath your home especially.
Remember, prevention is better than

Fiercely The Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among The...
Fiercely the Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among the Heavens, was painted by Thomas
Moran in 1875 1876. The artist s use of contrast between very cool colors to very warm colors
attracts attention to the sun and it s brightness in the painting. The painting is vivid, yet
impressionistic. The brushstrokes from the water to the rocky mountains are quite thin and small,
but those of the sun are deep, rich, and intense. The brightness and intensity create a blinding and
volcanic sun that appears to be setting the clouds above it on fire. Moran uses darker, inky colors
in the water to mute the background for a moment and allow the viewer to experience the sun in
its totality. As the viewer moves away from the sun and back to the water, he may notice the waves
are fervently crashing against the mountain and against each other. The painting overall evokes an
image of war and vengeance. Thomas Moran was influenced by many artists and ideas, but the
most important works that influenced him were the epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
and a singular painting by J. M. W. Turner.

Turner s artwork. Though, Turner was truly an Englishman, he was known as American Turner
by many artists, and was admired as such. In 1862, Moran traveled to England to see and study
Turner s work. Upon seeing the work above, Slave Ship, created by Turner in 1840, Moran was
inspired by both the malevolence of the sun and the twist it had on the history of the painting.
J.M.W. Turner heightened the malevolence of the story by marshaling all the forces of nature a
roiling, inky sea, a livid sun, and an angry, incendiary sky creating a setting fit for the Apocalypse .
With this painting and the literature of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Moran moved to paint

The Success Of The Ski Barn
In a perfect world, retailers would have plenty of loyal customers year after year to keep them in
business. However, this is not the case anymore, and keeping a customer loyal to your business
is harder than it seems. Customers are more demanding when it comes to pricing and
convenience today. If someone walks into a store looking to find something, and the business is
out of stock, or they are unhappy with the price, they will go looking somewhere else, or worse
turn to the internet. Family owned businesses are having an even harder time competing with
big corporations. Often times a family business will open up and seem to be doing fine, until a
bigger more well known company opens up just down the road. Most of the time the smaller
companies are forced to close down. This is because they cannot compete with some of the
discounts that are so easily handed out by the competition. Ski Barn is a family owned business,
located in four locations within New Jersey: Paramus (Headquarters), Wayne, Lawrenceville, and

Business Impact Analysis
This is an essential organization s business component that composes of a continuance plan for the
firm (Hiles, 2002). This plan includes planning components that aid in developing strategies for
mitigating risks, and an exploratory component to indicate and identify any vulnerability.
In this analysis account, the researcher is going to discuss and subsequently describe methods for
establishing components priorities by determining components dependencies and reliance in both
business continuity and disaster recovery.

Work Recovery Time (WRT) this is the second phase of MTD, it happens mostly on the third day of
MTD.
Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) this is the system recovery time, it is the available time to
recover disrupted resources and systems.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) this is the extent or amount of data loss that a critical business
system can tolerate.
The above are the recovery time framework that will assist in calculating the time and form
through which a business will evolve before collapsing (Hiles, 2002).
To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components
dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning
components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing
and mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will
dwell so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their
dependency is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be
aware of the areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then
it will have to look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. Mostly the planning happens
after the exploratory component (Cardoza, 2006).

Writing Assignment: #1 Bicarbonate infusion and pH clamp moderately reduce hyperventilation
during ramp exercise in humans , executed and written by Francois Peronnet, Tim Meyer, Bernard
Aguilaniu, Carl Etienne Juneau, Oliver Faude, and Wilfried Kindermann was first published on
September 7th, 2006. The purpose of the study was to test and determine if the decrease in plasma
pH contributes to the hyperventilation observed in humans in response to high intensity workload.
During the experiment, the plasma pH was the vocal point of this experiment where five healthy
male subjects preformed a ramp exercise. The experiment was done to see if the reduction in plasma
pH and the development of exercise hyperventilation is conclusive data to the hypothesis that says,
...Hyperventilation is a ventilatory compensation of the metabolic acidosis that develops at high
workloads and could be triggered, at least in part, by the reduction in plasma pH. (Journal of
Applied Psychology) The plasma pH and the hyperventilation from exercise were the main focuses
of the experiment and the end results data suggest that the decrease in plasma pH is one of the
factors that contribute to the hyperventilation observed at high workloads. In the conclusion of the
experiment, in the control situation, plasma pH decreased greatly below resting value and reached
7.270 at the conclusion opposed to 7.414 at a resting position. However, pH

Differences Between Modernism And Postmodernism
There are a lot of differences between modernism and postmodernism. The first is that modernism
began in the late 19th century and lasted until the 20th century, specifically from the year 1890s to
1945. According to Oak (2008), ... modernism and postmodernism highlights the difference in the
approaches towards life. A good example would be, during the modernist era rational and logical
thinking was encouraged as well as being objective and postmodernismdoes not and is subjective.
My chosen major is fashion designing. The purpose of fashion to me is an artistic way of self
expression, it is not only shown through clothing, but a large variety of things like one s hair,
personality and even plastic surgery! It is because, self expression is more than just what you wear
but a way to show your personality through fashion.
Jameson (1998, 1) stated, The concept of postmodernism is not widely accepted or even
understood today. It is not accepted especially for the fashion industry and there are people who
still do not accept fashion as a form of art in the postmodernism era but also during the modernist
era, Paul Poiret stated Am I a fool when I dream of putting art into my dresses, a fool when I say
dressmaking is an art? ... It seems to be that we practice the same craft, and that they are my
fellow workers. There are many different styles in fashion from all around the world that carries

deadline. The amount of work in progress is high and the planning does not factor that in. In this
particular case, a mistake at the beginning, when there is little work in progress, may not have
much of an impact or no impact at all because of the generous buffers. A mistake later, when the
amount of work in progress is high, may delay the work more than the buffers can compensate for.

Foreign Banking in the United States
There are several basic organizations through which a foreign banking organization such as D.
Beers Bank of South Africa may engage in banking activities or business to varying degrees in the
United States under federal law. Options for entity formation include: representative offices,
agencies, branches, Edge Act and Agreement international banking corporations, commercial
lending companies, and subsidiaries of bankor financial holding companies. Under California law
the offices of foreign banks are divided into classes and ranked roughly according to the activities
that each class may engage in. These categories are: representative offices, non depository agencies,
depository agencies, limited branch offices, wholesale branch offices, and retail branch offices. D.
Beers has narrowed down that he wants a branch or subsidiary, but within those types of bank
charters there are further distinctions
A branch is a legal and operational extension of its parent foreign bank. A branch may engage in a
wide range of bank activities such as: trading and investment activities, accepting wholesale and
foreign deposits, granting credit and acting as a fiduciary. A branch may not engage in retail
deposit taking activities. A branch is cheaper to establish than a separately chartered bank
subsidiary because a separate capital investment is not required, and the legal and accounting costs
of maintaining a separate corporation can be avoided. In addition, a branch may make larger loans

Why Should The Color Purple Be Banned Essay
The book A Color Purple is regularly challenged because those in power cannot handle the past.
They seem to forget that books are subjective. Some teenagers read more mature books than
people thrice their age. Even if it is a mature read there is something to learn from all books. No
books should be completely banned from any town, province, or country. A bookis like music.
Some enjoy the loud crashes of war with a rhythm of gripping tension. Others take in the sweet
strums of sappy love, a heartfelt keel to the perfect love story. What I am trying to say here is
that music, much like books, is subjective. There would only be one genre of music if we all
enjoyed the same slow waltz. This is the same with books. A country singer who only reads
hunting books and gun magazines is not going to enjoy a book based on a semi illiterate, small
town, black lesbian from the early 1900 s life, and that s okay. Such a story may be considered
scandalous to this back road trucker. Yet that is still not an excuse to ban the throaty song that is
A Color Purple because you enjoy slapstick comedy. There are other people out there who would
enjoy such a book and your banning is only making it harder for them to find... Show more content

A book labelled mature only means that adult situations take place, which teenagers can handle.
A friend of mine is extremely interested in mature reads that she finds on certain websites. My
father, at the age of fifty five no less, simply adores dumb comedies. These two don t
communicate, much less about their reading habits, but that does not mean one of their
preferences are wrong. It is more of a difference in their brains make up that . . . make up their

banning books is part of such practice. Stop the banning of literature because one person or group

Fifa s Corruption Of Soccer Games
Envision attending a game of your favorite sports team, already knowing who the winner of the
match. How fun would that be to watch? Whether you are betting real money on the game or not,
the game would be boring to watch. The possibility of this attending such a scenario does exist for
the FIFA world cup provided that FIFA
s corruption is allowed to keep manifesting. FIFA, also
known as the FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football Association and the governing body of
soccer, who creates and outlines the rules of the games, is suspected of corruption and it could
potentially harm the quality of soccer games. If this happens, the social and fun aspect of the
world cup would be entirely diminished. Think of if this happens to your favorite sport. You re
throwing a barbeque party celebrating the superbowl, and you know the Patriots are going to win
this year. Not because you believe in their skill but because it has all been staged. This leads me to
my main point, if FIFA s alleged corruption continues to knowingly grow and something isn t done,
it will hinder the prestige the FIFA World Cup
. While some may argue soccer has become an
important part of many countries history and FIFA has become too big to fail, if matches become
more about bribes, politics, and personal bias in a game where outcomes should be decided by
skill, people will lose interest. You might think that this doesn t matter and it is only soccer. But in
reality, FIFA s corruption is hurting people too. Did

into activating nerve cells. Stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamines cause the neurons to
release too much of the neurotransmitters, causing the sensation users describe as the brain racing.
And, in one way or another, almost all drugs over stimulate the pleasure center ofthe brain,
flooding it with the neurotransmitter dopamine. This produces euphoria, and the heightened
pleasure can be so compelling that the brain wants that feeling back again and again.
Unfortunately, with repeated use of a drug, the brain becomes accustomed to the dopamine
surges by producing less of it. So the user has to take more of the drug to feel the same pleasure
the phenomenon known as tolerance. There are several psychological factors that exist in the
adolescent with substance and chemical dependency disorders. The moods of these adolescents
are not stable and they are more prone to depression. They have various emotional and behavioral
difficulties. Adolescents with these disorders also tend to have learning disabilities and psychiatric

The Period Of South Asian History
Society and government in our day and age is much more secular than it has been for most of
human history. In fact, many countries, such as the United States of America, even have laws
built into their governments constitutions establishing a barrier between religion and
government. But throughout humanity s past, it was quite common across many diverse
societies for religion and politics to overlap; religion often influenced politics and politics often
used religion for practical purposes. In the process of trying to come up with a topic to research
on South Asian history in the ancient and medieval periods, I was very interested in this
relationship between religion and politics and knew I would want to pursue this topic in my
paper. The period of South Asian history to which I narrowed my focus to was that of the
Mauryan Empire and the post Mauryan polities that existed in the times after the collapse of the
Mauryan Empire. Thus, the period I focused my research and paper on fits primarily within the
years of circa 321 BCE to around 320 CE. The leading question behind my research was that I
wanted to research the nature of the relationship that existed between politics and the religions
present during this time in the region of South Asia; I wanted to examine whether this relationship
existed, and if so, to examine how and in what ways these religions influenced politics and vice
versa. In my research I found that there in fact was a strong relationship between these

Prison Reform in America
For many years now, the criminal justice system has become stricter, causing more and more
people to be arrested and sentenced to prison. As prisons become more occupied, the living
conditions, health, and treatment of prisoners starts to deteriorate, which has become a trend over
the last few decades. However, President Obama has noticed this prison environment and has taken
a stand in saying that something needs to be done about it. Though many people would argue that
prison reform is unnecessary because prisoners deserve to be treated poorly, there is sufficient
evidence that shows that the current conditions end up doing more harm mentally and physically to

It is unnecessary for many of these criminals to be held in prison since there isn t any room for
them in the first place. One way that the federal prison system can ease the overcrowding problem
would be to simply release the non violent criminals back into society with a fine or on probation.
The overcrowding that is contained within many prisons causes the facilities to become more and
more inhumane with the number of prisoners added each year. Many prisons suffer from lack of
resources for their inmates such as proper medical facilities, extra prison cells, and resources to
reduce idleness, which causes the conditions of the prisons and the treatment of the prisoners to
worsen. With overcrowding, prisoners become victims of unconstitutional treatment, and many will
suffer and die if this chronic overcrowding continues (Mayeux 9). Though many people would
argue that prisoners deserve the harsh conditions that come with overcrowded prisons, they need to
remember that prisoners are people too and are subject to the same natural rights as every American
citizen, including the eighth amendment which declares no cruel or unusual punishment (Brown v.
Plata 1). The supreme court case Brown v. Plata actually states that the overcrowded population of
prisons is a violation of one s constitutional rights (Brown v. Plata 1). But overcrowding doesn t just

Medicine in Colonial Days Essay
The Colonial Period The improvement of medicine over the course of the human successes gave

modernizes due to the industrialization, so does the ways of medicine. Some cures are approached
by chance, some, through intense, scientific measures. Medicine has come a long way from the

Beginning with the newly founded nation: America, many colonial people encountered illnesses
they have never been subjected to. Despite the different times in history, there is a similarity that
is still ongoing today. Those who have little income or live in rural settings have trouble
obtaining the health they need when an illness occurs. Hospitals are either too far to reach in
time or the bills are too expensive to pay. Now, there are countries who offer free health care but
it does not pertain to the land of America. America is based on money, and the old ways of paying
back someone through bales of wheat or firewood just will not cut it.
There were doctors in Colonial America. When a doctor visits a patient to check upon the sick
person s health, their pay will be in anything but money such as chopped woods, vegetables, et
cetera for the poor people. The poor people did not have money as stated in A Visit to a Colonial
Times Doctor s Office. They usually rely on their farming to feed their families and things such as
money were scarce. Those who are of the contrary to the low income and the rural settings have
better access to health and opportunities as written in Colonial Medicine (5). They can pay their
doctor on the spot and can even request their choice of doctors. In modern America, a new change
to the health care business is arriving. With the currently new healthcare, everyone shall be able to

A Common Technique Used By John Updike
A common technique used by authors throughout literature is the growth of the main character into
their own. From the maturation of a selfish soul into a triumphant hero, or the rise of a shunned
underdog into a loved champion, authors have create situations for their characters that teach
readers a significant life lesson about the world we live in. For example, John Updike s Sammy
from A P and Flannery O Connor s Grandmother from A Good Man is Hard to Find
both receive
wake up calls from the respective antagonists of their stories. They are put in high stress situations
where their morals and beliefs are pushed to the limit. Both O Connor and Updike utilized the high
stress situations to make the readerquestion their own beliefs; therefore, causing the readers to
empathize with the main characters. Sammy and the Grandmother experience unique situations
that force them to question their way of thinking; however, those lessons are not restricted to
them, but also lessons everyone has to learn. John Updike does a great job of creating a
character in Sammy that young boys are able to relate to, and then making him mature due to a
shocking realization about the real world. Like most teenage boys, he is sarcastic and
opinionated, but Sammy sets himself apart by being oddly observant. The mundane routine of his
boring bag boy job is turned upside down when the three girls around his age walk in. He
immediately takes notice and starts to pick apart every detail about the trio.

For South Park to be a cartoon and the main characters are drawn as children, its provides not on

In 1932, Dorsey s wife, Nettie Harper, who was Ma Rainey s wardrobe mistress, and their
newborn son died with a day of each other after the child s birth. His sorrow inspired him to
compose the now Gospel standard Take My Hand, Precious Lord. This composition fused the
religious hymn with the rhythmical and emotive blues music into what became Gospel Music,
which for a longtime were referred to as Dorseys. Gospel is not simply the cross pollination of the
spiritual hymn and the syncopated rhythm of jazz and blues. Because Dorsey was able to read
music, unlike many of his blues compatriots, he came to understand that music was a conduit of
feeling, a choice to be made solely by the performer and that, one had to surrender oneself to the
inspiration, be it a higher power, their experience, or whatever. Dorsey brought these observations
and the tenor of the blues together to this new music; that of defiance in the face of despair. These
were songs of hope, perseverance, and affirmation. Take My Hand was a favorite of the Reverend
Dr. Martin Luther King and was performed at his funeral at the request of President Lyndon

Before the bridge was built, motorists would have to drive though the winding country roads

Examples Of Deterioration In The Black Cat
Deterioration of Morals and Mind in The Black Cat In Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, the
unnamed narrator recounts the way his life has fallen apart due to a series of terrifying incidents
he has with his pet cat, Pluto. As the story develops, his actions grow more grotesque and
immoral as he tries to rid himself of the animal. In one of these instances, a fire forces the narrator
to move from his well tended house to a smaller, run down building, which represents the
deterioration of his state of mind. In this way, Edgar Allan Poeuses elements of setting to suggest
that when people disregard their conscience, the resulting moral and mental decay will end in their
retribution. At the beginning of the story, the narrator resides in a well tended house, which acts as
a symbol for his fairly healthy state of mind. He describes his house as his entire worldly wealth

However, it is too late, and his conscience does not survive his worsened state of mind. Thus, the
inner workings of his mind, symbolized by the walls of his house, start to break down, which, in
turn, kill the conscience. Consequently, his conscience is burned into his mind as a faint
impression of guilt, symbolized by the bas relief on the single standing wall at the head of his bed.
Moreover, the use of eyes as a prop strengthens the connection of the cat and his conscience. It is a
common saying that eyes are windows to the soul, which becomes the reason why the narrator
gouges out Pluto s eye. He does not want his conscience to affect his soul, so he takes out one of
its eyes to prevent it from truly seeing his soul. Even though he feels slightly guilty after his violent
act, it was, at best, a feeble and equivocal feeling, and the soul remained untouched

diaphragm in the right upper quadrant (RUQ) of the abdominal cavity. Without the liver, our
bodies would be poisoned and unfit for us to do anything at all. It is a metabolically active organ
responsible for many vital life functions. The primary functions of the liverare: Bile productions and
excretion. Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs. Metabolism of fats, proteins,
and carbohydrates. Enzyme activation. Storage of glycogen, vitamins, and minerals. Synthesis of
plasma proteins, such as albumin, and clotting factors. And blood detoxification and purification.
The liver is the body s energy factory.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bile moves into the gallbladder via tiny tubes. The bile is stored in the gallbladder and waits,
becoming concentrated, for the signal to be released into the duodenum aiding in digestion.
Without bile, the body could not digest fats, as fats do not absorb into water. The bile acts as a
detergent and allows the two to mix.
The liver is an unusual organ because nearly every one of its cells is exactly alike. The working
cells of the liver are known as hepatocytes. Hepatocytes have a unique capacity to reproduce in
response to liver injury. Liver regeneration can occur after surgical removal of a portion of the
liver (hepatectomy) or after injuries that destroy parts of the liver. And this regeneration can
adjust its size to match its host. Within a week after partial hepatectomy, hepatic mass is back
essentially to what it was prior to surgery. Even though the liver has the ability to react to
damage and can repair itself, repetitive insults can produce liver failure or deadly diseases,
infections, and disorders. A few such diseases are viral hepatitis, yellow fever, and rubella. Some
of the disease caused by bacteria are amebic dysentery, leptospirosis, and streptococcal infections.
These diseases can fatally damage the liver.
Liver failure is the acute failure of the liver to perform its body function. Proteins that allow the
blood to clot are not produced so the patient bruises and bleeds easily. A viscous fluid will
sometimes collect

The Political Motivations For English Imperialism
1. The political motivations for English imperialism were made on country that is craving to
succeed in power, to increase their land, to have an armed force, to achieve respect by
captivating colonies, and increase pride and security countrywide. The Pilgrims left England to
North America because they were seeking freedom from religious oppression from King James
I. Even though most of them died during the cross over, the few that made it settle very quickly
with the help of the Native Americans. These groups of people were very religious and wanted
to keep their faith alive. Their leaders in England did not tolerate it so they decide to leave
England to a place where can freely express their religion. (U.S History, 2008 2016) 2. The social
pressures that contributed to English colonization of North America are the fact that the population
in England doubled. There were to many mouths to feed and very little food, clothing and other
goods that led to inflation. Since there were so many people looking for job the wages fell
drastically which led the laborers in poverty. Landowners raised their rents, apprehended the lands
where the peasants occupied commonly which resulted on them being homeless and landless. So
they had no choice but to live in the streets. The officials finally realize that them leaving to North
America would alleviate the surplus of population in England. So that is why they migrated to
North America to improve their circumstances. (Norton, 2015)

Persuasive Essay On Hunting
The first time I went hunting with my brothers
Some people think spending the day in the woods is relaxing and peaceful. I used to think that
too until I went turkey hunting. With my brothers it was frustrating, hard, and aggravating all at
the same time because of the mistakes you ll make it s a life changing experience. It ll get your
blood pumping and your heart racing you ll end up wanting to go turkey hunting more often then
you think. You might think it s a little insane to wake up at 4:30 AM adventure into the woods and
get bit by bugs and get dirty. But it s what you have to do if you want to hunt you ll need to get
there before others do and before the turkeys wake up you have to find a spot to sit at and wait
and call them with a turkey call. But there is one downfall you is can t shoot till the sun comes
up that s kind of a long wait from 4:30 to 6:00 AM. It s worth the wait and excitement of going
hunting with my two older brothers yeah, they pick on me but there my brothers that s what
they do. One of their names is James we call him Bubba and the other one is Tyler and we call
him stupid they have a name for me but that s not school appropriate. And they say that you see
crazy things all the time in the woods I never really believed it till that night. We saw a UFO while
we were finding a place to call for turkeys. Bubba looks up and he says some words that can t be
spoken of but at that time we all look up at this bright star moving from side to side

Social Network And Its Effects On The Media
Facebook Uncovered
Facebook has always strived on the belief that this social network is where users connect with
not just friends but with the expansive world around them. Recently in the last several years,
some Facebook users have been expose to a world that they were not prepared or intend to see.
Gory visuals of a sinister and graphic nature that document this reality of debauchery has
become viral on some user s news feed. Images and videos of dead bodies, bloody car accidents,
mutilations and animal cruelty are a fragment of what users were exposed to during the
November 2011 gore porn link spam attack (Sarachik 2011). Facebook was able to close the
exploit with the help of Facebook s own technician after being informed of the problem. Still
images and videos depicting real life blood and gore still finds their way on Facebook, where
they can potentially be seen by hundreds of millions of users. Shortly after images of the
execution of James Foley by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) appeared online on
Facebook, a safety advisor for the company calls for the implementation of safety measures that
would prevent users from accidentally accessing the images (Kelion 2014). In recent years
Facebook have been increasingly used by some users on the social network to post graphic content
and obscene pornographic material and the reason for this is because the social network is not
effectively regulating and monitoring the content. The reasons for why Facebook needs

20th Century American Public Schools Essay
Teaching Origins in 20th Century American Public Schools
Introduction
The debate over the origins of the earth and of life has captivated and divided America since the
late 19th Century. Evolutionists and creationists have battled in courtrooms , churches , academia ,
and public schools over the course of the 20th century and continue fighting, or attempting to make
peace over, this culture war today. The debate has changed between the time of the Scopes Trial and
the present in several important ways. First, creationists have developed many more diverse
arguments, and employ not only biblical and moralistic arguments, but scientific evidence, logical
arguments, and political rhetoric to counter evolutionary theory. Second, ... Show more content on

Evolutionary theory has accrued evidence from diverse scientific fields and is now championed as
the centerpiece of biology. Creationism has branched out to include scientific, moralistic, and
probabilistic arguments, and its alliance with fundamentalist Christianity has helped it retain
political power. Toumey asserts that without the churches, academies, colleges, lobbies, rallies,
broadcasts, and mailing lists of the New Religious Right, creationism would be an obscure oddity;
with its Religious Right sponsors, however, it becomes a popular sensation that generates difficult
public controversy about science education.
Evolutionists have largely tried to control curricula at the level of national and state standards, and
view the inclusion of creation models in public schools as a central part of the larger problem of
the poor quality of science education in American schools. Creationists have typically worked on
the local and state level, appealing to first amendment freedoms of religious practice and expression
and attacking the validity of evolutionary theory.
Historical Overview
Since public education in the US has historically been controlled at the local and state level, the
content of and emphasis placed on origins education has varied over time and by locality due to
pressures from creationist and

JetBlue chose a perfect time to implement its upgrade.
JetBlue s precautionary measure of having a backup website and extra workers helped minimized
the difficulties associated with software upgrade. We are told in the case that WestJet s website

Are LGBT People Are Unfit To Reduce Children And Be Parents
There is the misconception that LGBT+ people are unfit to raise children and be parents. This,
however, is not true, and there have been many studies done that prove the sexuality of parents do
not harm a child s development in any way. It has also been recognized that gay parents tend to be
more attentive, and are very helpful to the world when finding children homes. This goes to show
that, queer people are just as qualified to be parents as anyone else.
Some people in this world have this idea that gay people are bad parents. They say that children
suffer more in the care of LGBT+ parents; that children end up being less intelligent than their
peers, and that they have a higher chance of being bullied. Some people also believe that gay
parents push their lifestyle on to their children, and that it could potentially turn them gay. Both of
these beliefs are wrong, and only show how close minded society can be at times. There has been
no correlation found that says the sexual orientation of parents affects children negatively. As for
children who are being bullied for having LGBT+ parents, it .only goes to show that people need
to teach their children to respect the differences of other people. Also, bullying in general is an
issue that needs to be addressed, and gay parents should not be at fault for any teasing that may
occur. These concerns that people have on queer parenting, aren t actually very concerning things.

How Is Heathcliff A Double Character
Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights display of cultural and physical features of an environment
affecting one s character and moral traits is showcased through the first Catherine s development
throughout the novel. Catherine is forced to adopt a double character , as she lives as a rebellious,
passionate womanon the turbulent Wuthering Heights, while behaving politely and courtly on the
elegant Thrushcross Grange(Bronte, 48). Each of these environments also contains a loveinterest of
Catherine s, each man parallel with the characteristics of their environments: Heathcliff, the
passionate and destructive, residing in Wuthering Heights, while the civilized and gentle Edgar
inhabits Thrushcross Grange. Catherine s development in character due to her setting significantly
contributes to the theme that pursuing passionate love is dangerous, such as the love shared by
Heathcliff and Catherine.
When Catherine resides in Thrushcross Grange, her coarse demeanor is heavily augmented by
the values of the upper class. Catherine s return from a five weeks stay at Thrushcross Grange
renders her manners much improved and her appearance as a very dignified person (Bronte,37).

A website s rank is dependent on many factors. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is done in

The Effects Of Culture On Drinking Behavior
One of the concepts that I was able to understand better from the interview is the way that culture
view the use of alcohol. From what James described he was considered an adult in his house hold
and when he began to drink he viewed it as a natural rite of passage. His mother consumed alcohol
from time to time, but it was not out of control so he grew up with the cultural belief of his mother
which is that alcohol is a sign of being an adult. In America it is seen as something that provides
sexiness, maturity, sophistication, and status. My perception on culture and the effects that it has
on drinking behavior we completely changed. I understand that there are many components to

On The Road By Langston Hughes
In Langston Hughes short story On the Road , Sargent, desperate for food and shelter, challenges
social barriers and racial discrimination during his fight for freedom. Sargent is an unemployed
black man during the great depression who faces additional obstacles because of his skin color.
While this period was almost fifty years after the end of the Civil War and the subsequent
emancipation of slaves in the United States, racismwas still prevalent across the country. In the
South, despite the decline of organizations like the Klu Klux Klan [,] ... racism was as strong as

He describes Sargent by the color of his skin rather than as an equal or someone he could help.
This racial tension continues through the second half of Mr. Dorset description where he goes on
to express him as a human piece of night with snow on his face . Hughes again uses this contrast
between a black night and white snow to illustrate how Mr. Dorset focuses entirely on race
throughout this interaction.
Because Sargent has a different skin color, Mr. Dorset turns him away without any compassion.
Despite being a holy man , The Reverend tells Sargent to [g]o right on down this street four
blocks and turn to your left, walk up seven and you ll see the Relief Shelter. Mr. Dorset blurts out
these very general instructions without waiting to see if Sargent understood or even heard them
before he shut the door. These instructions are not only vague but also harsh as Sargent has to
walk eleven blocks through the snow before he can even see the Relief Shelter. While it is
reasonable for Mr. Dorset to not offer Sargent food or shelter in his own home, it shows the utter
lack of respect when he does not bother to talk to Sargent in a reasonable manner. When giving
directions it is common to include information such as street names, landmarks, or buildings that
give the person a sense they are going in the right direction, yet Mr. Dorset gives a trite, vague
response. It would not harm Mr. Dorset to take another minute of

  • 2. Contrast And Attitude Of American Jews During Ww2 Comparison, Contrast and Attitude of American Jews in the WW2 The World War II started in the late 1930s. The war mainly affected Europe and Asia the neighboring nations. Following the NAZI xenophobia against the Jews, there was continuous mass murder against the Jews, which forced most of them to migrate to buffer zones and those that had the ability migrated to other continents. The government of the United Stateshad signed a quota with the Austrian government, as a way to take care of the refugees, but the government did not act on the matter until late in 1944 when President Franklin Roosevelt recognized the problem due to the pressure coming from the Jewish community in the United States and some officials that made it possible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1933, the rise of Hitler Adolf in Germany triggered the widespread persecution of Jews in Europe, particularly Germany. Different Jews all over the continent wished to flee the nations in Europe to escape the political, social and economic oppression in Germany. However, there were few countries that were willing to accept Jews as fugitive in their nations. Under the leadership of Hitler, there were over 6 million Jews that were persecuted all over the world in a bid to eliminate Jews from the face of the Earth (HISTORY.com). The American traditional policy hindered the intervention of the American government through restricting the quotas. The quota system only permitted a maximum of 25957 Germans to enter the borders of the United States. In reference to the stock market crisis in 1929, there was a rise in unemployment in the United States leading to the further emphasis on immigration policies of the United States (HISTORY.com). After the Shoah (Holocaust) had arrived the American shores, the United States had already joined the World War II. As a consequence of the European Jewry decline in the 1930s and 1940s, the American Jews realized that they were in a position to assist the embattled Jews in European nations. As a consequence, the American Jews, previously ignored as an epicenter of Jewish power, particularly as a spiritual center, was placed in a position where it acted as the leading role in the battle of the interests of Jews (Zola and ... • 4. Anorexia Vs Bulimia Eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia cause dramatic weight fluctuation, interfere with normal daily life, and can permanently affect their health.Generally, eating disorders involve self critical, negative thoughts and feelings about body weight and food, and eating habits that disrupt normal body function and daily activities. People with anorexia have an extreme fear of weight gain and a distorted view of their body size and shape. As a result, they strive to maintain a very low body weight. Some restrict their food intake by dieting, fasting, or excessive exercise. People with anorexia try to eat as little as possible, and take in as few calories as they can, frequently obsessing over food intake. Bulimia is characterized by habitual binge eating and purging. Some research suggests that media images contribute to the rise in the incidence of eating disorders. Most celebrities in advertising, movies, TV, and sports programs are very thin, and this may lead girls to think that the ideal of beauty is extreme thinness. ... • 5. Japan And Japan When it comes to under five moralities, again Japan has fared better than the United Kingdom. In 1990, the under five mortalities were 9 in the UK and 6 in Japan, in 2012 this is now 5 and 3 respectively. Japan, according to health outcomes is a much healthier country in both life expectancy and under five mortalities. Similar to each country s GDP, both countries have fairly similar health expenditure with Japan overall spending more of its GDP on health. Whilst it is easy to assume better infrastructure and staff will lead to better health outcomes, this is not always the case. As shown by the USA which has some of the worst health outcomes in the developed world, despite spending 17% of its GDP on health in contrast to Japan s 10% and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown by Wilkinson and Pickett, this trust leads to social capital, which has been shown to reduce mortality due to lower stress, less crime. Whilst looking at the two developing countries we have observed that inequality and the perception of inequality can lead to lower social capital which in turn leads to worsening health outcomes. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the argument that cultural factors such as diet and general well being may play an important role in improvement in health outcomes. However, we can see that societal factors play an important factor in health outcomes and it is not completely correlated with health expenditure or overall GDP. Growing Economies, Different Health Outcomes? Both developing countries that have been analysed have also been targeted by the United Nation s Millennium Development Goals. A significant portion of these goals are directly targeted at improving Health outcomes. Brazil became one of the greatest economic success stories of the late 20th and early 21st century, being famously labelled one of the BRIC economies; a group of economies which were labelled as the next largest economy. What made this growth so important was this is one of a series of periods of economic growth in Brazil, but this is one of the first which saw GINI drop to a low level in comparison to previous growth in Brazil. • 6. William Lackey s The Scandal Of Jewish Rage In William Styron Having a Sophie s Choice is a term that has become infamous after the publication of William Styron s Sophie s Choice in 1979. It is a noun that describes choosing between two difficult decisions that have the same outcome. In the story there is a writer living in New York who meets an odd couple, Sophie Zawistowaska and Nathan Landau. They are lovers, but in the story Sophie s past in Auschwitz is revealed in greater detail. Through that, it is revealed that Sophie s Choice was the unforgivable act of Sophie choosing her son over her daughter, leaving her daughter to die in the extermination camp. In Sophie s Choice there is evidence of violence, explicit sexual content, and offensive language, but the effect the Holocausthas on characters of different backgrounds causes this to be a text that should be taught in a high schoolclassroom. The main themes found in Sophie s Choice include the Holocaust, mental illness, friendship and betrayal. The Holocaust is seen prominently in this story because it was what the one of the main characters, Sophie Zawistowaska, had to live through. Her lover Nathan Landau had trouble with substance abuse, and he was also a paranoid schizophrenic. This was a theme that troubled some people. Nathan was a much scrutinized character. In Lackey s The Scandal of Jewish Rage in William Styron s Sophie s Choice, he talks about how there are some scholars who believe that Nathan Landau did not have any reasonable background to be a ... • 7. Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two. The first summary of Andrew Sullivan s essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan s stance of the issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan s case. The second summary is of Bennett s essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the progression of homosexual equality in America. Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement s actual desire is the fundamental right to marriage. Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married. Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very foundations of marriage. Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional definition of marriage. Simply allowing gays to marry would contradict some of the worlds major religions that play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My First Small Business Adventure Growing up as a middle class child with both parents working, I learned to appreciate the little details. In order to grow my parents had to deal with a lot of un ethical people and the wrongs they did to them. Although they had many opportunities to develop quickly at the expense of others, they always denied the idea of taking advantage of them. Instead, my parents chose the longer but righteous road. Through their life choices and their struggles, I learned to be fair to others as I would like others to be fair to me, how to be humble, and help develop others as much as I was developing. Love your neighbor as yourself. Religion wasn t harshly enforced, but my parents implemented a lot of the lessons that came from the words of the bible. I learned not to take advantage of people. As a young child my first small business adventure was my lemonade stand. Pricing my lemonade was the hardest thingI had to think about because I wanted to make money but, I didn t want people not to purchase it. There was my first business lesson. I needed to be fair to others as I would be to myself. I experienced that if I was giving my family a discount everyone else deserved one too because it was the exact same cup, with the same amount. I couldn t turn around and sell it to others at a higher price just because I knew they didn t know my family was getting it for less. I felt better to know I was being a good person even though I didn t make a lot of money. Making money for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marys foot is resting on a stool that is covered by a rug. The throne is held up by the pillars that are held by the angels beneath it. • 11. Australia s International Obligations Analysis Australia s international obligations are framed by the United Nations, as this organisation is paramount to enforcing international law and fundamental human rights. The United Nations (UN) was founded in 1945, shortly after World War II, by a group of representatives from fifty nations. Their motive was to establish a stable forum in which international issues could be discussed and prevent wars between powerful nations. The power and purpose of the UN is bound by its founding charter, similar to a constitution, containing one hundred and eleven articles which authorize the rights and obligations of members (United Nations, 2017). All states are of equal sovereignty and each state in the General Assembly is entitled to one vote regardless... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Australia s international obligations extend extra territorially according to these agreements and Australia is legally responsible for any contravention of obligations, regardless of whether or not an Australian official was liable. However, the international obligations vary significantly between Australia, PNG and Nauru, creating much difficulty in terms of effectively implementing these obligations. For instance, Nauru is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, nor do they have the domestic legal structure to implement such obligations, due to the impoverished state of the country (Dr Hathaway, 2016). PNG faces similar challenges in regards to the socio economic state of the country and struggles to implement such obligations, despite being a signatory to the Refugee Convention. Neither of these designated offshore processing states have the legal capacity to uphold international obligations, thus creating great potential for violations of these obligations (Archbold, 2015). This impacts the Australian government as it is difficult to regulate activity in the regional processing centres and if obligations were to be breached, the government would be responsible regardless of who contravened. If you do not know a pipe has frozen and has been damaged, when the frozen water thaws enough to allow water flow to return, this is when unexpected flooding can occur due to a burst pipe. Frozen water applies thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch on a pipe, so it is no wonder that they sometimes break. If you happen to be away from home when this happens, it spells disaster. If you have a pipe that burst unexpectedly, shuts off the valve to that pipe. You may need to turn off all the water to your home. • 14. Fiercely The Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among The... Fiercely the Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among the Heavens, was painted by Thomas Moran in 1875 1876. The artist s use of contrast between very cool colors to very warm colors attracts attention to the sun and it s brightness in the painting. The painting is vivid, yet impressionistic. The brushstrokes from the water to the rocky mountains are quite thin and small, but those of the sun are deep, rich, and intense. The brightness and intensity create a blinding and volcanic sun that appears to be setting the clouds above it on fire. Moran uses darker, inky colors in the water to mute the background for a moment and allow the viewer to experience the sun in its totality. As the viewer moves away from the sun and back to the water, he may notice the waves are fervently crashing against the mountain and against each other. The painting overall evokes an image of war and vengeance. Thomas Moran was influenced by many artists and ideas, but the most important works that influenced him were the epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and a singular painting by J. M. W. Turner. If someone walks into a store looking to find something, and the business is out of stock, or they are unhappy with the price, they will go looking somewhere else, or worse turn to the internet. Family owned businesses are having an even harder time competing with big corporations. Their dependency is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then it will have to look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. Some teenagers read more mature books than people thrice their age. Even if it is a mature read there is something to learn from all books. No books should be completely banned from any town, province, or country. A bookis like music. Some enjoy the loud crashes of war with a rhythm of gripping tension. Others take in the sweet strums of sappy love, a heartfelt keel to the perfect love story. What I am trying to say here is that music, much like books, is subjective. There would only be one genre of music if we all enjoyed the same slow waltz. This is the same with books. A country singer who only reads hunting books and gun magazines is not going to enjoy a book based on a semi illiterate, small town, black lesbian from the early 1900 s life, and that s okay. FIFA, also known as the FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football Association and the governing body of soccer, who creates and outlines the rules of the games, is suspected of corruption and it could potentially harm the quality of soccer games. If this happens, the social and fun aspect of the world cup would be entirely diminished. Think of if this happens to your favorite sport. You re throwing a barbeque party celebrating the superbowl, and you know the Patriots are going to win this year. Not because you believe in their skill but because it has all been staged. This leads me to my main point, if FIFA s alleged corruption continues to knowingly grow and something isn t done, it will hinder the prestige the FIFA World Cup . While some may argue soccer has become an important part of many countries history and FIFA has become too big to fail, if matches become more about bribes, politics, and personal bias in a game where outcomes should be decided by skill, people will lose interest. Many prisons suffer from lack of resources for their inmates such as proper medical facilities, extra prison cells, and resources to reduce idleness, which causes the conditions of the prisons and the treatment of the prisoners to worsen. • 33. A Common Technique Used By John Updike A common technique used by authors throughout literature is the growth of the main character into their own. From the maturation of a selfish soul into a triumphant hero, or the rise of a shunned underdog into a loved champion, authors have create situations for their characters that teach readers a significant life lesson about the world we live in. For example, John Updike s Sammy from A P and Flannery O Connor s Grandmother from A Good Man is Hard to Find both receive wake up calls from the respective antagonists of their stories. They are put in high stress situations where their morals and beliefs are pushed to the limit. Both O Connor and Updike utilized the high stress situations to make the readerquestion their own beliefs; therefore, causing the readers to empathize with the main characters. Sammy and the Grandmother experience unique situations that force them to question their way of thinking; however, those lessons are not restricted to them, but also lessons everyone has to learn. John Updike does a great job of creating a character in Sammy that young boys are able to relate to, and then making him mature due to a shocking realization about the real world. Like most teenage boys, he is sarcastic and opinionated, but Sammy sets himself apart by being oddly observant. Because Dorsey was able to read music, unlike many of his blues compatriots, he came to understand that music was a conduit of feeling, a choice to be made solely by the performer and that, one had to surrender oneself to the inspiration, be it a higher power, their experience, or whatever. Dorsey brought these observations and the tenor of the blues together to this new music; that of defiance in the face of despair. These were songs of hope, perseverance, and affirmation. Examples Of Deterioration In The Black Cat Deterioration of Morals and Mind in The Black Cat In Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, the unnamed narrator recounts the way his life has fallen apart due to a series of terrifying incidents he has with his pet cat, Pluto. In one of these instances, a fire forces the narrator to move from his well tended house to a smaller, run down building, which represents the deterioration of his state of mind. In this way, Edgar Allan Poeuses elements of setting to suggest that when people disregard their conscience, the resulting moral and mental decay will end in their retribution. It is a metabolically active organ responsible for many vital life functions. The primary functions of the liverare: Bile productions and excretion. Without bile, the body could not digest fats, as fats do not absorb into water. The bile acts as a detergent and allows the two to mix. The liver is an unusual organ because nearly every one of its cells is exactly alike. The working cells of the liver are known as hepatocytes. Hepatocytes have a unique capacity to reproduce in response to liver injury. Liver regeneration can occur after surgical removal of a portion of the liver (hepatectomy) or after injuries that destroy parts of the liver. And this regeneration can adjust its size to match its host. Within a week after partial hepatectomy, hepatic mass is back essentially to what it was prior to surgery. The social pressures that contributed to English colonization of North America are the fact that the population in England doubled. There were to many mouths to feed and very little food, clothing and other goods that led to inflation. Since there were so many people looking for job the wages fell drastically which led the laborers in poverty. Landowners raised their rents, apprehended the lands where the peasants occupied commonly which resulted on them being homeless and landless. So they had no choice but to live in the streets. • 56. On The Road By Langston Hughes In Langston Hughes short story On the Road , Sargent, desperate for food and shelter, challenges social barriers and racial discrimination during his fight for freedom. Sargent is an unemployed black man during the great depression who faces additional obstacles because of his skin color. While this period was almost fifty years after the end of the Civil War and the subsequent emancipation of slaves in the United States, racismwas still prevalent across the country. In the South, despite the decline of organizations like the Klu Klux Klan [,] ... racism was as strong as ever (UVA). Furthermore, the increased presence of Black Americans in Northern cities...increased tension in the North as well. With widespread racism, Black Americans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He describes Sargent by the color of his skin rather than as an equal or someone he could help. This racial tension continues through the second half of Mr. Dorset description where he goes on to express him as a human piece of night with snow on his face . Hughes again uses this contrast between a black night and white snow to illustrate how Mr. Dorset focuses entirely on race throughout this interaction. Because Sargent has a different skin color, Mr. Dorset turns him away without any compassion. Despite being a holy man , The Reverend tells Sargent to [g]o right on down this street four blocks and turn to your left, walk up seven and you ll see the Relief Shelter. Mr. Dorset blurts out these very general instructions without waiting to see if Sargent understood or even heard them before he shut the door. These instructions are not only vague but also harsh as Sargent has to walk eleven blocks through the snow before he can even see the Relief Shelter. While it is reasonable for Mr. Dorset to not offer Sargent food or shelter in his own home, it shows the utter lack of respect when he does not bother to talk to Sargent in a reasonable manner. When giving directions it is common to include information such as street names, landmarks, or buildings that give the person a sense they are going in the right direction, yet Mr. Dorset gives a trite, vague response. It would not harm Mr. Dorset to take another minute of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
