This document outlines JISC's strategic priorities for business and community engagement between 2011-2013. It discusses challenges in creating productive knowledge and learning partnerships between higher education institutions and external partners due to differences in culture and priorities. However, it also outlines opportunities for collaboration through activities like continuing professional development training, joint course development, and collaborative research. The strategic priorities include embedding engagement across the organization, improving relationship management capabilities, and increasing public value and civic engagement through initiatives that empower small and medium enterprises and open innovation pilots.
Building Digital Teaching and Learning Capabilities in GMIT IT Sligo and LYIT...carinaginty
In 2019, GMIT along with partners IT Sligo and LYIT were awarded a HEA Innovation and Transformation award to build digital capabilities in the Connacht-Ulster Alliance (CUA). The project is called iNOTE and it provides opportunities to transform the higher education experience in the CUA institutes (2019-2022). GMIT Teaching and Learning Office is leading the development of DigitalEd.ie (work package 2 of the iNOTE project).
DigitalEd.ie, is a digital teaching and learning knowledge platform. that provides access to professional development pathways and a suite of digital resources, in order to build digital capabilities and pedagogic expertise, so that educators can design, deliver and support flexible and online learning programmes effectively.
This presentation will explore: the development journey of DigitalEd.ie; the creation of a digital champions team; designing learning pathways; creating a digital resources directory; staff insights on building their digital teaching and learning capabilities during the pandemic; and a suite of digital capability discovery tools (including a workshop, a digital discovery self-assessment tool, the INDEX survey, a discussion platform survey, and focus groups with digital champions and DigitalEd.ie participants). The suite of discovery tools deployed during the project (2019-2022), is supporting an action research study, that is informing a best practice model for developing digital teaching and learning capabilities in higher education.
These slides were presented at a BCE (Business and Community Engagement) event to show some of the issues raised from a previous workshop involving those external to further and higher education. The focus was on effective partnerships.
A discussion 'think piece' presented by Professor Lynn Martin at an innovation workshop hosted by the West Midlands Regional Observatory in Birmingham on 19 March 2009.
Prepared as an interactive session focuses on participating in shifting the paradigm toward learner-centered curriculum delivery. The key factors for adult education are maturity, accumulation of experience; readiness for learning; being problem vs. subject centered; intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation; and curriculum that is anchored as problem-centered rather than content-oriented. Where there is a challenge achieving true innovation, this paper and the planned interactive session offers a series of framework based on Porter's idea on Value Chain Analysis to identify factors which leverage activities along a "chain" of delivering an educational service to self-directed learners. Specifically, course design for online delivery is the scenario for open dialog on shifting the paradigm. This paper contains diagrams for discussion slides that introduce the topic and support open dialog among practitioners at the TCC conference 2011
Study of business participation and entrepreneurship in Marie Skłodowska-Curi...Mantas Pupinis
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) provide grants for researchers in all stages of their careers – be they doctoral candidates or highly experienced researchers – and encourage transnational, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. It enables research-focused organisations (universities, research centres, and businesses) to host talented foreign researchers and to create strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide.
With this study, PPMI in partnership with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and Optimity Advisors assessed the impacts of business participation and entrepreneurship on the results of the research fellowships funded by the programme.
The study relied on the evidence gathered and analysed using qualitative and quantitative methods, including desk research, statistical analysis of the monitoring data, a large-scale case study programme (50 case studies of the MSCA projects involving businesses and cross-case analysis), more than 300 interviews with various types of interviewees (EU and national-level stakeholders, business participants in the MSCA and representatives of unsuccessful business applicants), as well as surveys of the MSCA fellows and participating organisations.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
