Comparing EU and Council of Europe Data Protection Standards in the Context o...David Erdos
In the event of Brexit, the UK will leave the EU Charter, the GDPR and related EU instruments. It will, however, remain committed not only to achieving EU ‘adequacy’ standard but doing this within the framework of Council of Europe’s Data Protection Convention 108+. These slides therefore explore the commonalities and contrasts between EU DP and Convention 108+. Both have a similar scope and common principles. However, Convention 108+'s transparency and sensitive data rules are considerably less stringent and there are many fewer compulsory controller discipline provisions. Whilst only modest change should be expected initially as the UK will essentially replicate the GDPR in the short-term, this less prescriptive and more flexible approach is likely to exert an influence on UK data protection should Brexit happen.
Join this webinar to hear the latest developments, including how businesses are addressing their human rights impacts and are reporting progress, for example, in accordance the Modern Slavery Act and UN Guiding Principles on business and human rights. We will also share the results of our comprehensive survey of General Counsels. The survey addresses their involvement in human rights risks and management, as well as providing practical insight into their challenges and priorities.

Data Protection Rules are Changing: What Can You Do to Prepare?Lumension
The European Union’s proposed new data protection regulation aims to update Europe’s data protection laws and to provide a more consistent data protection framework across the Continent.
But the new regulation, which replaces the EU’s existing data protection directive and member states’ data protection laws, will put some new demands on organisations holding personal data. Breach disclosure and “the right to be forgotten” will force businesses to update their data protection and retention policies.
This presentation will:
- Review the current EU laws, and contrast them with laws in other parts of the world;
- Examine the arguments for strengthening data protection in Europe, and the likely outcomes;
- Look at what security teams should already be doing to put themselves ahead of legislative changes;
- Outline strategies and technologies organisations need to meet current and future data protection requirements
- Help infosecurity teams to explain the changes – and their consequences – to their boards

The European Commission's proposal for a new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), represents the most significant global development in data protection law since Directive 95/46. It will considerably impact cross-border e-discovery in the EU.
2015 introduced some remarkable changes in the global regulatory environment, the most noteworthy being the European court ruling that invalidated the EU-US Safe Harbor Agreement. This has left many businesses scrambling to determine what they must do to comply with Europe's strict data protection laws.
The General Data Protection Regulation came into force on May 25th 2018 and some high profile penalties have already been passed down by the ICO for infringement. One year on, what impact is it having? Insight Data reveals the mistakes some companies are still making and how they can adapt their data processes to avoid fines of up to £20 million.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas.
