Schmidt had realized that, despite the rise of decentralized, informal online learning opportunities, there was no digital way to track and manage these accomplishments. He says he became interested in finding a "more modular credentialing environment, where you would get some kind of recognition for lots of things you did throughout your life". 4 years later, Hristian Daskalov looks into a method for assessment of the actual effect of such and other innovations in the world of education and professional development by discussing the experience of MIT and OS.University (among others) as early adopters of DLT (distributed ledger technologies).

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) provide grants for researchers in all stages of their careers – be they doctoral candidates or highly experienced researchers – and encourage transnational, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. It enables research-focused organisations (universities, research centres, and businesses) to host talented foreign researchers and to create strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide.
With this study, PPMI in partnership with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and Optimity Advisors assessed the impacts of business participation and entrepreneurship on the results of the research fellowships funded by the programme.
The study relied on the evidence gathered and analysed using qualitative and quantitative methods, including desk research, statistical analysis of the monitoring data, a large-scale case study programme (50 case studies of the MSCA projects involving businesses and cross-case analysis), more than 300 interviews with various types of interviewees (EU and national-level stakeholders, business participants in the MSCA and representatives of unsuccessful business applicants), as well as surveys of the MSCA fellows and participating organisations.

Apprenticeship in England - United KingdomEduSkills OECD
England has launched a series of reforms that champion the institution of apprenticeship, and address some previous weaknesses. The reforms encourage more substantive apprenticeship programmes and a stronger funding framework. Despite these strengths, there is still some way to go to establish an apprenticeship system in England to match those of the strongest countries.
This report suggests several ways in which reforms might be adapted to achieve higher quality and better outcomes. An effective apprenticeship system involves various elements such as the development of the apprentice in the workplace by the employer and the broader education of young apprentices. The report argues that England should consider introducing regulations and standards to ensure that these elements are part of all apprenticeship programmes, and that the recently introduced apprenticeship levy supports high-quality training. In comparison to other countries, England has relatively few young apprentices. The report suggests England could facilitate transition from school to work by making better use of apprenticeships targeting school leavers.
In 2012/13, 20 years after LSE Enterprise took on its first two projects, we connected governments, charities and private sector companies with 388 academics and experts, from almost 50 of LSE’s departments, research centres, groups and units as well as beyond the School.
This paper provides an update on activity in the innovation and business models strand of the ENCORE+ project. A range of business models that support or draw on open educational resources (OER) have been proposed. This paper reviews models that have been proposed (Tlili et al., 2020; Padilla Rodriguez et al., 2018; Belleflamme & Jacqmin, 2015; Ubachs & Konings, 2016; and Farrow, 2019) and suggests a synthesis into one typology of OER business models. The ENCORE+ OER Business Model Typology has been developed as part of a wider effort to understand and evaluate economically sustainable approaches to OER as well as to formulate OER value propositions for different stakeholders. In related work, a range of OER innovation case studies (N=48) are being prepared for publication. These illustrate different instances of innovation with OER and show how OER actors understand their value proposition to different audiences.

This keynote from Karen Adriaanse, Senior Associate, reflects on findings from the Inspiration in Custody agenda activities and partnership work across the West Midlands region to establish best practice and help promote the importance of future delivery of this type of provision in prisons. The focus of the evaluation was on the impact the events and activities have had on motivating the prisoners to plan for their release and to take actions, while still in prison, that would enhance their chances of future employment or self-employment.
This presentation highlights innovative developments in the English region of the West Midlands. Deirdre has worked closely with a group of professionals who have a strong interest in building a careers offer for young people in the Black Country. As a result of shared efforts, Ambitions Black Country (ABC) sets out a dynamic vision underpinned by an evidence-base and implementation plan. Slide 20 on new forms of careers dialogue was originally developed by Professor Marinka Kuijpers - professor by special appointment in 'Learning Environment and Learning Careers in the (V) MBO' at the Open University, The Netherlands.
