I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. Identify language used in academic texts from various disciplines.
b. Differentiate language used in academic texts from various disciplines.
c. Relate the importance of language used in academic texts from various
disciplines.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. TOPIC: Reading Academic Texts
B. MATERIALS: Hand-outs, Chalkboard, Laptop
C. REFERENCES: A Brief History of English by Paul Roberts, LM for SHS English
for Academic and Professional Purposes
III. PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Greeting
3. Checking of attendance
4. Setting of Classroom Rules
5. Review
B. LESSON PROPER
B.1 Motivation
Let the learners consult the origin of the following words:
a. cheese f. chicken
b. camp g. carpenter
c. school h. sky
d. religion i. cat
e. beef j. altar
B.2 Activity
The learners will be group into 5. Each group will be given terms to be
discussed to the class. Group 1 – Old English & Celts, Group 2 – Middle
English & Dialect, Group 3 – Modern English & Case, Group 4 – Anglo
Saxons & Standardization, Group 5 – Mutually intelligible language.
The learners will do their research from text entitled “A Brief History of
English by Paul Roberts. They will give the meaning of those terms and
present it to the class.
How do you find the activity?
In your own opinion, what is the activity is all about?
B.3 ANALYSIS
1. Did you find the origin of English?
2. Is there any complication of the history of English?
3. What English are we using nowadays?
B.4 ABSTRACTION
Discuss and differentiate the following terms Old English, Middle English,
Modern English.
Where did the English language start?
Is it important to use English language in our country? What about in
school?
B.5 APPLICATION
Based on the same group, the learners will play a “Pinoy Henyo”
These are the following terms to be guess.
Old English, Middle English, Modern English, Anglo-Saxons, Indo-
European language
B.6 EVALUATION
(Formative Test)
Instruction: In a 1/4 sheet of paper. Answer the following:
1. Is the family language to which English belongs?
2. It is an indication where the language are distinct from each other
and are not dialects of the same language
3. It refers to the period in the history English language covering the
years from 449 to 1100.
4. History of English that covers the period from 1100 to 1500.
5. It is the term that came about with reference to the Teutonic tribes
that invaded England.
6. The original inhabitants of the British Isles before the arrival of the
Romans
7. It suggests an ideal norm or model usage.
8. Is the choice of form depending on the function of words?
9. History of English that covers the period 1500 to the present.
10. Is a variation of a language?
V. ASSIGNMENT
Look for the origin of the following. Mesa, lapis, bag, kabayo, tsunami,
silya, titser, baso, kotse & lahar.

OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, students should be able to: a. Identify language used in academic texts from various disciplines. b. Differentiate language used in academic texts from various disciplines. c. Relate the importance of language used in academic texts from various disciplines. II. SUBJECT MATTER A. TOPIC: Reading Academic Texts B. MATERIALS: Hand-outs, Chalkboard, Laptop C. REFERENCES: A Brief History of English by Paul Roberts, LM for SHS English for Academic and Professional Purposes III. PROCEDURE A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES 1. Prayer 2. Greeting 3. Checking of attendance 4. Setting of Classroom Rules 5. Review B. LESSON PROPER B.1 Motivation Let the learners consult the origin of the following words: a. cheese f. chicken b. camp g. carpenter c. school h. sky d. religion i. cat e. beef j. altar B.2 Activity The learners will be group into 5. Each group will be given terms to be discussed to the class. Group 1 – Old English & Celts, Group 2 – Middle English & Dialect, Group 3 – Modern English & Case, Group 4 – Anglo Saxons & Standardization, Group 5 – Mutually intelligible language. The learners will do their research from text entitled “A Brief History of English by Paul Roberts. They will give the meaning of those terms and present it to the class. How do you find the activity? In your own opinion, what is the activity is all about?

B.4 ABSTRACTION Discuss and differentiate the following terms Old English, Middle English, Modern English. Where did the English language start? Is it important to use English language in our country? What about in school? B.5 APPLICATION Based on the same group, the learners will play a “Pinoy Henyo” These are the following terms to be guess. Old English, Middle English, Modern English, Anglo-Saxons, Indo- European language B.6 EVALUATION (Formative Test) Instruction: In a 1/4 sheet of paper. Answer the following: 1. Is the family language to which English belongs? 2. It is an indication where the language are distinct from each other and are not dialects of the same language 3. It refers to the period in the history English language covering the years from 449 to 1100. 4. History of English that covers the period from 1100 to 1500. 5. It is the term that came about with reference to the Teutonic tribes that invaded England. 6. The original inhabitants of the British Isles before the arrival of the Romans 7. It suggests an ideal norm or model usage. 8. Is the choice of form depending on the function of words? 9. History of English that covers the period 1500 to the present. 10.
