This lesson plan outlines a class on reading academic texts. The objectives are for students to identify, summarize, and understand the importance of context in academic texts. B.1 Motivation
The teacher will give prescription of aspirin to the learners and they will
interpret the information found in it and will answer the following
questions:
1. Did you found useful information in the prescription?
2. Who do you think is the intended reader of this write up about
aspirin?
3. What have you observed about the information you found in the
prescription?
4. What is the significance of this information to our lesson today?
The teacher will teach the learners on how to access information by
looking at how ideas are arranged in the text.
Then, the teacher will explain that there are certain registers of
language peculiar to specific profession such as medical science,
engineering and business. These languages are referred to as jargon.
In the case of aspirin, its common use as a drug as to relieve pain and
reduce fever has gained popular knowledge. The teacher will grasp
the coding system of the prescription given to the class.

The learners will make a simple grid on the selection they have read.
They will identify how many sentence are there in the selection and
write down what is the corresponding topic of each sentences.

Instruction: (Essay) In a 1/2 sheet of paper. Guide questions:
1. What is jargon? (2 pts.)
2. What are the jargon used in medical science, engineering and
business. Give three (3) examples each. (9 pts.)
3. Why it is important to identify the context of the selection. (3 pts.)

our constitution.
