Cancer Cell Essay
Breaking away: cancer cell dissemination and survival in the periphery
Once the primary tumor gains the capacity to evade host immune system and cancer cells enter the
circulation, metastatic dissemination takes place. Before metastatic dissemination, the
prematastatic niches are primed. Cell types which earlier were recruited to destroy cancer now
facilitate in tumor progression(Fig. 2). TME supports cancer cells in leaving the primary tumor site
seeding in secondary organs.
In the primary tumor one of the initial steps was EMT, during which tumor cells lose epithelial
markers and gain mesenchymal traits that confer stem like properties and a migratory phenotype.
But in secondary site, cancer cells show phenotypic switching, i.e., ... Show more content on

Hypoxia takes place in the tumor core due to deficiency of oxygen. Hypoxia mediates immune cell
recruitment (eg.; Lymphocytes in colorectal cancer) and concentrates them at the tumor periphery
to support cancer invasion at the leading edge. Hypoxia in the tumor core leads to aggressive
selection pressure for resilient stem like tumor cells due to which these cells migrate to the
periphery of the tumor.
2.3INTRAVASATION
According to Paget s hypothesis of seed and soil , cancer cells (seed) gradually acquire mutations in
oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes that confer the ability to intravasate, survive in the
haematogenous or lymphatic circulation, and prosper in a distant site (soil). This soil would have
characteristics that allow the metastatic cell to adhere and proliferate. In humans, certain tumours
metastasize to specific organ sites. For example, breast cancers metastasize to lung, liver, bone and
brain; melanoma to liver, brain and skin. By contrast, some tumors like glioma do not metastasize,
instead migrate along white matter tracks, others such as ovarian tumours are restricted to the
peritoneal cavity. Some others such as head and neck cancers only spread to regional lymph nodes.
The molecular bases of these differences are poorly if at all understood, but probably have a
microenvironmental component. Recent studies mention about the power of transcriptome
profiling to identify cohorts of genes of which

Panhandle Internship Essay
Introduction I have been doing internship in the Panhandle Promise Project since January. The
Panhandle Promise Project mission is to break the cycle of incarceration for at risk youth; the
program offers education, mentoring services, monthly activities, and support for the families.
Services for the youth and family are free of charge. The program also offers a summer camp for
the youth, this year 35 children were able to attend in the five days camp. Because the program is
very new, there is only one paid employee, Melisa Martinez who is also my supervisor. Melisa
depends on the interns from West Texas A M University for help in keeping the program running.

learning about their lives made me want to know more about foster care system and ways i can
be involved in their lives. The camp also made me reflect on how important it is to educate
children who have a family member/parent incarcerated. This population sees prison as normal

Borgata Leadership Style
Since 2013, I have been working at the Borgata and have worked in several restaurants with
many great managers. In my own personal opinion what makes a manager great is their
willingness to listen to their employees and their flexibility as far as scheduling goes. Also their
ability to talk to customers as if they have known them a lifetime and make them feel welcome and
comfortable. Above all when looking for a great manager leadershipis the key. There is big
difference between a leader and just simply a boss. A leader is not afraid to pitch in and help his
employees get through a shift. As where a boss just simply gives commands and does not
contribute as much as one should. The manager that I currently work with is outstanding

The Censorship Of The Journalism
Breaking news just in.......... this is just one of the everyday things in the hectic world of
journalism. People often downplay the significance of this huge task. Journalism allows people to
know everything happening all around the world. It also allows questions that would otherwise be
awkward to ask to be answered. It offers informative facts and often the whole truth to everyone out
there. Without journalismthe government would probably be in control of everything and fellow
citizens would ignorant of the happenings around them.
One of the roles in journalism is the journalist. Journalists have several tasks to complete but the
main thing is that they inform the public about events and topics and how it may pertain to ... Show

Not only was he a journalist he was also a publisher and printer. He was rather successful in this
area and it could be due to the fact that he would be neutral on subjects and scrutinize all sides of
an issue and several perspectives on those issues would be published. He completely understood the
meaning of the freedom of the press, and he wouldn t limit the information he knows to the people
in America.
A reporter is another essential position in journalism. A reporter is the one who watches and
pictures the events in great detail in order to inform viewers. They have to state their own views
and also the facts of the things they are covering. This job includes having to gather the news and
present it in a certain amount of time. They have to interview several people and attend public
meetings, press conferences, and courts to find events of interest to the public.
This job doesn t quite provide fixed hours or a regular routine; it ll change by the day. The type
of work will change daily, as well as the amount of it. To fit this job a reporter must possess
confident, so they won t be overly amazed or intimidated by the rank of an interviewee. A
reporter should always take initiative to do all tasks and not be easily discouraged by people or
their surroundings. They should also posses the mental and physical drive to deal with any kind of
situation quickly and to put it into words. When

19th Century Political Cartoons
Originating in the 19th century, political cartoons are created and drawn as a means to deliver a
message. Whether it be about politics, events or social concerns, the artist is able to express
themselves creatively. The cartoons are not only meant to express the view of the creator, but are
also open to interpretation. Most political cartoons have a biased point of view and uses rhetoric to
persuade its audience.
Benjamin Franklin created the first known American political cartoon, Join or Die . It was
originally published in the Pennsylvania Gazette, a newspaper owned and ran by Franklin. The
cartoon is a snake divided into eight sections representing the original colonies, below that is a

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were accused of deflating footballs to give them an
advantage in the January 18th AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. Deflated
footballs are easier to grip and throw, giving their team a direct advantage over the Colts. The
Indianapolis Colts equipment manager first suspected the balls did not meet the NFL s minimum
standard right before half time and after measuring the balls he notified officials. Most all of the
balls the Patriots had were not measuring to the correct standard and they found that Tom Brady
knew of the violation and said nothing. Punishment from the NFL was a one million fine, four
game suspension without pay and the loss of not only their 1st round draft pick in 2016 but also
their 4th round draft pick in 2017. In addition, the two equipment staffers responsible for the
incident were also indefinitely suspended. (ESPN.com) However, Tom Brady recently won his

Hurricane Matthew Geography
The weather this week is relatively calm. I only came across two interesting items. One is hurricane
Matthew and the other being the earthquake warning in southern California. Quite honestly I m not
sure that the earthquake warning counts as weather but it was very interesting and in my opinion is
related to geography. So, I will talk about the hurricane. Hurricane Matthew is the strongest
hurricane since hurricane Felix in 2007. It is the thirteenth named stormof this year s hurricane
season. It is predicted that this storm will be devastating to Haiti due to deforestation. This makes
the likelihood of mudslides and flooding much greater. Hurricane Matthew briefly reached a
category 5 level which is the highest level with windspeeds

Comparison of Values in Great Expectations and The Great...
The very essence of money creates an urge in human nature to obtain it and have an excess of it.
When people come into wealth and begin rising on the social ladder, they usually become
corrupted, and compromise their personal values. In the novels, Great Expectations and The Great
Gatsby, the protagonists, Pip and Jay Gatsbyrespectively, believe their wealth is used for the
common good, but in reality many valuesare being compromised. Pip and Gatsby both utilize their
money in an attempt to bring the women they love into their lives. Along the way toward achieving
their goal, they violate ethics, which, in turn, change them as people.
Despite the two novels possessing differences, they coincide in many aspects. When ... Show more

Wolfsheim who even, fixed the 1919 World Series (author page #). Dan Cody and Wolfsheim
showed Gatsby how to make a fortune by way of illegal business, and it appears they lead him to
believe it was acceptable to carry out these deeds as long as a proper goal was being reached.
In both of the novels, Pip and Gatsby receive, or earn their great quantities of money and do not
realize at first the money is tainted. Pip s benefactor was none other than Abel Magwitch, a
known felon who he encountered at a church graveyard and who threatened Pip for food and a
file. In appreciation of Pip s deed in fetching the items for him, Magwitch nobly decides to endow
Pip with a large sum of money. The money was gained through evil deeds. Since Compeyson and
Magwitch acquired the money through fraud, and conning people out of their hard earned money,
it rendered the money evil, or tainted. Even though Pip s relationship with Magwitch progresses
and he virtually becomes a father to Pip, the money remains blemished due to the way it was
obtained.
In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby abandons the army a poor man, but has visions of making money,
climbing the social ladder, and getting Daisy back in his life. Gatsby thinks he is succeeding when

Lewis Mere Christianity
Lewis discusses the difficult topics of atonement and the Christian life within chapters four and five
of Mere Christianity. Lewis maintains his mere Christianity explanation of the topics by not
focusing on the multiple theories, by not diving deeper into explanations that will never be fully
adequate for Earthly beings, and by focusing on what is true across all denominations of Christianity
; he focuses on what is true for mere Christianity. I find his approach to the doctrines of atonement
and the Christian life to be strong. He does not give those who doubt an escape from accepting the
truth. Lewis does not focus on the multiple theories and warns the reader against focusing on the
theories and not on what all Christians agree upon. He states The central Christian belief is that
Christ s death has somehow put us right with Godand given us a fresh start. Theories as to how it
did this are another matter. A good many different theories have been held as to... Show more

This focus on commonality is evident when mentions his Methodist friend disagreeing to which of
the three things that spread the Christ life to us should be emphasized over the others. Lewis
instead concentrates on the fact that Christians in general all agree that the three are important. He
does not get into a detailed debate on which of the three is most important because he wants to
maintain what is true to mere Christianity. Lewis knows that he believes that these three things are
important to Christianity but is unable to explain why. By admitting that he cannot explain why, he
is allowing the reader to form their own opinion or theory; but he is not allowing room for them
not to believe in the three things and in the truth, which is Christianity. Lewis upholds his focus on
mere Christianity by not focusing on a certain denomination s beliefs, but he focuses on what is
accepted by Christians, of all sects, as a

Sassy Fox Website Analysis
Design
Even if a website has good information architecture and content, poor design can take away from
the two elements and negatively affect the usability of the site. According to Johnson, successful
web design is minimalistic and easily readable with font choices and color palettes (39). The design
of Sassy Fox s website is either extremely busy and misleads users or is minimalistic to a fault.
Examples of these extremes are the website s header and user forms.
One very distracting element of the Sassy Fox website is the header image that takes up half of
the screen. In chapter six, Johnson addresses busy backgrounds saying, visual noise in and around
text can disrupt recognition of features, characters, and words, and therefore drop reading ... Show

Users are pulled to areas that are graphic heavy, but have no purpose. While features like the gift
certificate form are unusable because they are so underdeveloped. In my opinion, the website
would benefit from changing the Sassy Fox logo to plain text, removing all background images,
and using fonts that are visible and have good contrast. The forms are better left simple, but the
field box definitely need to be closer to its correlating text.
Conclusion:
In this analysis, I only covered a few out of the many problems that that hurt the usability of
Sassy Fox s website. If I had to give it a grade, it would be the lowest one possible because overall
the website is incomplete. Navigating the website is a grid that leads to nowhere, there is no real
content, and the design choices are visually overwhelming. Sassyfox.com is absolutely not a
functional webstore by any means and should definitely be unpublished. I honestly wonder if
making it public was a mistake. There are no good things about this

Personal Statement For The Support Group
Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around
testimonies. I wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we
had, specifically spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be
able to get to know one another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to
people they are still getting to know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my
icebreaker to lead into the importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a
platform for Christ. For my ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which
we had decided would be about our current walk with the Lord.
Group goals
At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary
goal was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one
another and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting
one another because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported
one another as we shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting
one another as we talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not
exercise the sub goal to support one another because it was more educational than supportive.
I was nervous going after we talked about stress because it

Architecture Manifesto Example
Course: ARC 103 Title: Architecture and Sensitivity: A Manifesto for Sustainable Design This
manifesto proposes an approach to sustainable design that I am interested in exploring during my
time studying architecture. The idea of sustainability is a complex one, not without apparent
contradictions. This makes it difficult to define in a wholly satisfactory manner. For the purposes of
this manifesto I will advert to the definition proposed by Jason McLennan who asserts that
sustainable design: seeks to maximize the quality of the built environment, while minimizing or
eliminating negative impact to the natural environment. I find this definition particularly useful in
the emphasis which it places on quality. By quality, in this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Arising out of his respect for the site, the scale of Aalto s office building derives both its
horizontal and vertical character from the nearby historical buildings, hence its symmetrical, formal
façade. A more recent example of contextually sensitive design is afforded by Grafton Architect s
proposal for the new Faculty of Economics for the University of Toulouse, still under construction.
While envisaging their project, the architects walked from one side of the city to the other, gauging
the character of the brick facades, the polygonal towers, the transitions from streets to courts and
the underlying spatial patterns. The resulting design offers a sensitive response to the layered
history and unique geography of the site. As founding partner Shelley McNamara has put it, the
building weaves into the mesh of the city. 4. Connected to Nature Study nature, love nature, stay
close to nature. It will never fail you. Frank Lloyd Wright By nature I mean a world predominantly
uninterfered with by man. Building in a way that is sensitive to what is natural, its resources and

harmony with the environment. He called this an organic architecture...of

Fred s Applicability Case Study
The report aimed to discuss whether Fred is a resident of Australia and should be taxed from all
sources of income or only from income sourced in Australia. Applicable case law and legislation
were presented to support the evaluation.
ITAA 1997 Section 995 1 provides that the meaning of an Australian resident is defined in ITAA
1936 Section 6 (1), which sets out different criteria for determining the residency of individuals
and companies. There are four tests to ascertain that an individual is a resident or not. An
individual need only to satisfy one of these tests to qualify as a resident for tax purposes. These tests
are the ordinary concept test, the domicile test, the 183 day day test and the superannuation test.
To assist in determining the residence of a person under the ordinary concept, the following factors
need to be considered: physical presence in Australia; if the person is a visitor, the frequency,
regularity and duration of visits; the purpose of the visits to Australia and abroad; the maintenance
of a place of abode in Australia for the taxpayer s use; the person s family business and social ties;
and the person s nationality.

(MacDonald, 2017) This is due to the pensioner not having any priority s when a company goes

Amy Winehouse Tragic Hero
In the land of fame, it is almost expected of you and your career to come to an abrupt end with
much drama. Sadly, Amy Winehouse was no exception. As the outstanding musician she was,
she was destined to face tragedy. As a woman who possessed traits that included pleasing others,
helping others, facing enemies and allies, and then facing a tragedy, she now can, sadly, be
considered as a modern tragic hero. A tragic hero is described exactly how it sounds, a person
who has done something great like a hero, but also something tragic. A tragic hero may retain
traits such as a know it all personality, an attitude that is unfit for the world which is changing

Winehouse was a gorgeous and very talented musician of the early 2000s. She grew up in a
normal household with a cab driver father and a pharmacist mother. The fame started when a
friend submitted her tape to a record company. Amy was always a bit troubled, for example, she
was expelled from her school, Sylvia Young Theatre School, for not applying herself and for
piercing her nose at the age of sixteen. She had always been exposed to jazz music, from her family
being involved in the industry as well. She started liking rap on her own in her childhood years;
therefore her music is a mix of the two. ( Amy Winehouse Biography Para 2 3).
As her career began to grow after her debut album, Frank, she often showed up to social events

instead she wrote a hit about it. To only worsen her situation, the abusive couple got married in

Green Champion Paper
Brewing of a Sustainable Idea
In the current day and age, environmental issues are beginning to be considered more frequently
in business decision and in governmental policy. The current threat of global warming, sea level
rise, ocean acidification, and extinction of species highlight the consequences of not being
environmentally aware. Even the smallest green decisions like choosing to car pool or to recycle
can be decisions that have a huge impact that positively effects the environment. These decisions
can have far reaching implications. For instance, someone who witnesses these green decisions
may be inspired to make environmentally conscious decisions as well. Much in the same way
people could be inspired, businesses can be inspired as well. Creating a sustainability initiative in a
business can be extremely positive and rewarding. For this reason, I think it is vital that the local
beer brewing company, COOP Ale Works, adopt a sustainability program. Many breweries have
adopt sustainable framework, two such examples are New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada. I
believe by implementing some of these ideals into their brewing process COOP can inspire other
businesses to become more sustainable. In this paper I will mention the current problems with the
brewing process, highlight the changes that can be made based off of current implementation at
breweries, and present a four point plan to

All around there were children with bright smiles full of excitement and tugging at their parents
shirts saying, Let s go see that! This place is the most magical place on earth: Disney World in
Orlando, Florida. The days were scorching hot, but it often rained so, I could get the cooling
sensation of rain washing the sweat off my body. Disney World consists of four parks, but the best
is by far the one known as the Magic Kingdom. It made me feel as if I am royalty. When I first
walked into the Magic Kingdom, there was a walk way called Main Street, U.S.A. I saw a
barber shop, a theater, clothing shops containing Mickey Mouse attire, and art galleries filled with
aesthetic art. The Hall of Presidents was located in the theatre. It had realistic wax figures of every
President sitting on a stage all together with a short show depicting events that happened during
some of the Presidents lifetime. While taking a stroll down Main Street, U.S.A, I smelled the fresh
aroma of hot dogs and bakery items such as sweet, scrumptious apple pies. Taking the path straight
down Main Street, U.S.A, I saw the beautiful Cinderella Castlesurrounded by the vast diversity of
flowers and their vivid colors. Cinderella s Castle was as tall as the Eiffel Tower. It had lovely
architecture and was painted with beautiful blue and white colors. Once I passed by Cinderella s
Castle, I spotted a place entitled Frontierland with rustic, old looking buildings. There were a

Real Life Duty Of Judge Judy Judge
The infamous show entitled Judy Judge is a syndication television courtroom series that has
captured the attention of the nation. In the show Judge Judy, formally known as Judith Judy
Sheindlin, presides over real life small claim cases. She is famously known for outspoken
personality and being one of harshest judges in the state of New York (Neubauer Fradella, 2014).
Her show is heavily criticized because it is alleged to because it distorts and underrepresents the
real life duty of being a judge.
For this assignment, I watched an episode of Judge Judy to provide insight on how the real life
duty of a judge is distorted in the show. This particular episode was about a Kenitha Roberts, the

Bessie Smith Biography
On October 29, 1929, later to be known as the notorious Black Tuesday, the stock market crashed,
and the United States was thrust into the Great Depression. Companies became bankrupt one after
another, resulting in more and more Americans being laid off. Soon, it became a common sight
to see large crowds of homeless people waiting outside of soup kitchens and bread lines, no matter
what city or town you were in. It was during this dark period of despair and misery that Bessie
Smith, the Empress of the Blues, recorded one of her most well known and loved songs, Nobody

millions of Americans during that somber period. Smith sings Nobody knows you/... Show more

Their success allowed them to spend money freely on things like bootleg whiskey, champagne and

wishing that they were back at the top.
With the peoples changing taste in music and Smith s alcoholic tendencies, it seemed unlikely
that her career would ever pick back up, but near the end of the 1930s, her career was on the rise
with her recording and performing again. Unfortunately, Smith did not get to enjoy her
comeback. On September 26, 1937, she was killed in a car accident. She hit her old Packard with a
parked truck near Coahoma, Mississippi, between Clarksdale and Memphis and injured herself
so severely that one of her arms was nearly severed off her body. Since there was no record of her

Chicana Epistemology
A general definition of Epistemology is the theory of knowledge; it s methods, validity, and scope.
From a Chicana Feminism standpoint, I believe it is how we analyze knowledge from the culture
that influences our daily lives. Chicanas strive and grow through the teachings and stories of past
activists which tells us the changes that have been made and the changes that are still to come.
They are important because it gives us different perspectives and understandings of Chicana history.
Not every story it the same, but there is a connection. Through this theory, we all gain the
opportunity to see through a Chicana feminist scope into each other s stories.

Cantu wrote an interesting novel titled Canicula: Snapshots of a Girlhood en la Frontera which she
categorizes it as a self reflection . She has found inspiration in written work by women who have

who published pieces that challenged traditional genres. Their creative non fiction stories widen the
feminist standpoint and create knowledge on their individual struggles. Unbeknownst to me, this
new genre, creative non fiction, was coming into being just as I was planning and writing Canicula

Sherwood Anderson s Society As An Outsiders
In Sherwood Anderson s Hands, and William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, both authors
introduced main characters who are alienated in their respective societies. In Anderson s work,
Wing Biddlebaum is an outsider because he wants to escape from his society since he has been
accused of being a child molester. Similarly, in Faulkner s work, Emily hides from society since
the prying eyes of the people who see her gaze and oppression. In this way, both characters are
outsiders in their communities by the people s eyes on them. There are a variety of people in
our society and divide into two main groups. There are people who associate easily with other
people are more likely to interact with people. However, there are people who live in a quiet do

Capitalism And Feudalism
Marx and Engels suggested that the bourgeois revolution destroyed everything that was once held
sacred because people had to give up their dreams, passions, and occupations in order to provide
for themsel The alienation of labor added insult to injury because workers were forced to sell
themselves into slavery.
The destruction of the feudalism, and the industrial revolution was what created capitalism. During
the 19 century, the industrial revolution had allowed the once impoverished to become obtain
wealth through manufacturing and creating jobs, which created new oppressors. The workers that
they employed were alienated because they could afford the products they made while working
harsh hours in horrible conditions. Which lead Marx to create the Communist Manifesto, which
divided people into two classes: the property owners (Bourgeoisie) and the workers (proletariat) .
He did this because felt pity for the workers and wanted to go back to simpler times and knew
industrial societies were developed enough to have a workers revolution. This had led revolutions
because the people he called the proletariat were outraged and wanted a better standard of living.
Thus, leading to future revolutions throughout the world.
To understand how capitalism started must first know what feudalism was. Feudalism was a
medieval hierarchal power structure of King s, Nobles Knights, Peasants , and Serfs etc. The King

King Henry Viii Influence On Religion
Henry the VIII has influenced the church today by making his own religion in the Catholic
Church. After Wolsey s downfall, Thomas Cromwell became Henry s chief minister and earned
the confidence of the King by helping him to break off with Rome and establish Henry the VIII as
head of the Church of England. (BBC, 2016) This profession also brought him in a lot of wealth
through the dissolution of well funded monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800
monasteries be disbanded and their lands and treasures taken for the crown (BBC, 2016). All the
land that was sold to the gentry and churches and monasteries were gutted and destroyed. Henry s
contribution to the church started with translating all the bibles to English and then he had... Show

During the 1280 s, after Henry s son Edward had conquered Wales, the Welsh people had
revolted several times against the English people, due to Edward s conquer. But, the Welsh

Another poem where the writer remembers the father but in a slightly negative and brutal

that she feels like she has been a foot living in a black shoe for thirty years , too timid to either
breathe or sneeze . She insists that she needed to kill him (she refers to him a Daddy), but that he
died before she had time. She describes him as heavy, like a bag full of God, resembling a statue
which could also insinuate the burden he was to her life. She remembers how she at one time
prayed for his return from death, and gives a German declaration of misery. When she remembers

The Difference Between Egenarianism And Egalitarianism
Due to this topic s controversy in the evangelical church, I am very grateful to learn about these two
different views. The variation of the views even within the egalitarian and complementarian
perspectives was interesting. It reminded me that in ourselves alone unity cannot be found. Only in
Christ can we obtain unity displaying a countercultural attribute that reflects His light and hope for
this world. I am praying for our Great God s faithful help in this.
Egalitarian Perspective In learning about the egalitarian perspective from Linda L. Belleville and
Craig S. Keener, the bottom line difference between egalitarians and complementarians seems to be
the extent of which women can lead men. The egalitarian believes scripture supports mutual
ministry opportunity for both genders. Belleville states Egalitarian is to believe in the mutual
gifting of women and men . (35) Keener s four options of viewing women in ministry is also very
helpful. The fourth option is The Bible permits women s ministry under normal circumstances but
prohibits it in exceptional cases, in which case we should allow it under most circumstances today
(Gundry, Beck 206). The egalitarian view is not about who has authority over a congregation, but
by grace is given to believers through Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit, empowerment is given
both genders to minister to the congregation and equip the saints for ministry. Authority is given to
Jesus Christ. The command scripture gives to

Petrarchan Sonnets
Carlos Alejandro
In the first chapter, Every trip is a quest (even when it s not) the author talks about a quester, a
place to go, a stated reason to go there, challenges on the way, and a real reason to be going there.
He says the real reason for a quest is always self knowledge, self discovers, and self fulfillment. And
Lord of the rings and Star Wars are some examples.
In the next chapter, Nice to eat with you: Acts of Communication it talks about communion
which the author says it s also known as an act of sharing or peace . But it also doesn t matter if
its religious or not, it doesn t have to be. And on Nice to eat he talks about some ideas about
writing a classic vampire story, which are, older figure representing corrupt outworn values, and a
few more. He explains that many stories in the Victorian Era featured the vampire because they
couldn t talk about some topics, like sex. So he used this character to explain these types of things.
When they talk about ghost and vampires, it doesn t literally talk about ghosts and vampires, and
doesn t have to have the same typical characters either.
On the next chapter, it talks about the renaissance and about sonnets and about how they are 14
lines long and and ten syllables per line too. The Petrarchan sonnets are the most popular type
and its divided into 2 parts and one part is 8 and the other part is 6 lines. And it says how the
poem turns itself into a shape of a square which is why the title of this chapter is

Cyrus Clinder Thesis
Core Concept Essay One The Cyrus Cylinder, the Mandate of Heaven and the Ashurbanipal
document are ancient texts written by or on behalf of leaders of civilizations who came to
power through different means. These civilizations shared similar aspects, although differing in
some ways. Differences in the style of leadership highlight important cultural variations, which
likely contributed to either the success or failure of each empire. The Cyrus Cylinder talks
mainly about how Cyrus conquers the old city of Babylon (Cyrus). This document varies from
the others because it talks about how Marduk utilized evil and how he tormented the people. He
eventually learned how to lessen his anger, and decided to create peace. He decided to do this by
finding a new king, Cyrus, to create a more stable civilization. It was likely written to demonstrate
the effectiveness of Cyrus style of ruling as well as to establish what the basic human rights are
(or should be). Also, it showed that putting Cyrus in charge allowed the people to become full of
life again. This shows that Cyrus wanted to please others. As well as the fact that many other kings
from different civilizations came to worship Cyrus. Happily, they greeted him as a master through

Impact Of A Firm s Announcements On The Same Company s...
Event studies focus on the impact of a firm s announcements on the same firm s stock prices. To a
certain extent, when an event is unexpected, the magnitude of abnormal performance is a measure
of the impact of that type of event on the wealth of a firm s shareholders (Brown and Warner,
1980). To begin with, in this paper, we assume the impact is unbiased, which means this market is
efficient. In an efficient market, the market price should be an unbiased estimate of the true value
of the stock. However, market efficiency does not require the price to be completely matched with
true value. Due to randomness, the price can either be under estimated or over estimated at any
point of time. When there is an announcement, the changing of prices related to the announcement
does not mean the market is inefficient. Martingale property theory assumes that knowledge of
past events cannot help to predict future winning s stock price. Only when this condition is
satisfied, then the market is a fair game. There are three versions of efficient market hypothesis:
weak form efficiency (contains all past price information), semi strong efficiency (contains all
public information), and strong efficiency (contains all public and insider information). The better
the price signal, the more info efficient the market. Event studies provide a direct test to market
efficiency. The day the information is released is generally defined as day zero. If we assume the
event window is five days, then t =

Essay on The Main Obstacles to Peace
The Main Obstacles to Peace There has been violence in the Middle East for the past 60 years,
and there still seems to be no hope of a compromise between the Palestinians and the Israelis. In
order for a peace settlement to work, both sides must agree to it, and must overcome the four main
barriers which stand in the way. They must reach a compromise over the city of Jerusalem,
showing it should be controlled by both peoples because of the joint history between them, the
attitudes and expectations should try to be fulfilled, which would destroy the extremist movements

The Jews recently have begun settlement building in the West Bank, encouraged by Ariel
Sharon, (he was the housing minister in the 1970 s but now the Prime Minister). Today around
400,000 Israelis live illegally on the Palestinian lands, despite Resolution 242 passed 30 years
ago making the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza strip illegal. This is why most terrorism
happens in these areas, in order to scare the Israelis into defeat. A Recent example of this was in
October 2003 when the Israelis launched a tender for the construction of 550 new homes in the
Jewish section of the West Bank there was much protest from the moderate Palestinians but very
soon there was a huge increase in the violence on the West Bank. Therefore, since any
compromise involves one side giving up or not getting enough of the land they both see as
rightfully belonging entirely to them, any peace deal will inevitably leave both the Israelis and the
Palestinians unhappy. The Second barriers to peace are the extremists on both sides in this
conflict. These people want 100% of the land and wouldn t be happy with anything less than the
whole of Palestine to themselves. Both the Palestinian and Israeli Prime Ministers have hoped that

The more the residents depended on farming, the more the population increased. This made it

Scientist H. Federighi studied the effects of salinity on the size of Urosalpinx cinerea. In
1927,Urosalpinx cinerea were collected to figure out the average size of the species from two
different places: Norfolk, Virginia and Beaufort, North Carolina. The average size of each group
of the snail was identified, and it turned out the average sizes were very different in the two
places. In Norfolk, the average length was between 21 and 25 millimeters, yet in Beaufort the size
was 13 to 17 millimeters. It was then that Federighi began to look into the effects of salinity.
Immediately, the temperature of the two places could be ruled out as the cause for this size
variation because the temperature doesn t really vary between the two places. However, the
salinity of the two areas do differ greatly. The results of his experiment indicated that the snails
grow larger in brackish water, water that has more salinity than freshwater, but less than seawater.

How 1960s Has Impacted And Influenced Today s Society
How have the 1960s dramatically impacted and influenced today s society? In today s society,
there are many controversial topics that we are facing today; we have the 1960s to thank for those
things. The sixties was one of the most impactful decades pertaining to culture revolutions; it is the
decade that brought into play some of the problems and privileges that the present is dealing with
now. The sixties brought the gay movement, women s rights, the drug revolution, and has also
impacted music as well. One of the most well known things about the sixties is its music. Bands in
the sixties started to break the conservative boundaries by talking about drugs and sex in their
music; the drugs and sex revolution in this music also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drugs highly influence music in the sixties with bands such as The Byrds, The Doors, The
Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and The Beatles. These bands took
inspiration from the affects that the drugs had on them with their psychedelic properties. Drugs
were also just starting to get introduced and people were highly influenced with positive drug
propaganda ( The 60 s ). So, the positivity about drugs were influencing the bands and the bands
were influencing the people and the more dugs being bought, the more people heard about them,
and the more people heard about them, the more they were used, so basically it was just an endless
cycle of drug positivity.
So now there are more than a hundred thousand people in America who are being influenced by
this music that expresses sex and drug use in positive ways. Also, with the invention for the birth
control pill in 1960, the consequences of having sex lessened and now women could be just as
involved in it as men where. In 1962, 1.2 million American women were using it and by 1965 that
number reached to 2.3 million women (Nikolchev). In the 1950s, sex would have barley been herd
of outside of marriage, but now into the sixties, it became more and more common for teens and
young adults to be irresponsible.
In today s society sex and drugs are common place. Media now a days show, talk about, or make

because the mascot represents rebels , which shows relations to the confederacy and slavery, it is
controversial. However, proponents of the mascot change such as Charlie Bonner says that
although the idea of a Confederate soldier appears to bring bad memories to many people and
many schools and universities such as the University of Mississippi, got rid of their... Show more

For instance, when Shapiro states that past a 1200 people that signed and the 1950s decade that
Shapiro explained that the Freeman School started to use the mascot for sports events; if for
instance Shapiro used words such as exactly 1200 people or stated one year that is between the
1950s, the information would not be credible because the number of people was still growing
and there is no proof of the exact year that the school started to use the mascot in the article
(Shapiro). Another example may be the number people that signed the petition and the year that
Douglas Southall Freeman School opened, which is 1954 (Shapiro). Therefore, because
Shapiro used a large number of people in which, for example, of a County, is somehow
significant because the numbers show a positive argument of the article. Also, by showing the
year that the school was opened, the year may represent a phenomenal proof of the argument
because it may be showing that the story of the Confederate flag may have started in between
the decade when the school was created. Nevertheless, given that many readers would want
source links because they may think that source credibility is the most important element,
Shapiro s unwavering path to credibility may be at risk. Many readers analyze many texts or
articles because of their website and author s transparency to the readers to access the source
links. For this reason, the capacity for readers to see where the information came from, may be a
way to not lead the website into a façade and a way to guarantee that the information is reliable
and credible. In spite of the fact given that many readers seek credible sources that possess source
links, the fact that Shapiro used words such as some, often and more than, he may not be showing a
strong certainty

Bruce Dawe s Poems Migrants And The And A Related...
Journey is an act of travelling from one place to another which can be seeking permanent home
in a different country or travelling in the same country. It can affect different people in many
different ways as they get emotional, intellectual and imaginative experiences individually in
their life. All of these have been explored in some of Bruce Dawe s meaningful poems migrants
and drifters and a related text Still Life which is a short film by Martin Sharpe. The poem
migrants was about group of European migrants seeking permanent home in a completely
different country to escape from war and have better standard of life but the poem drifters was
about a family journeying in the same country. In comparison, the short film, Still Life is about a
man who has boring and meaningless life. The composers employ poetic and film techniques to
convey the possible positive and negative ramifications of journeys. Journeys can have positive
and negative consequences on people as it has been implicated in Dawe s poems and Sharpe s
short film. Journeying to a new place shows a contrast of two cultures and lack of understanding of
each other. In the poem migrants , a rhetorical question did they say All things with similar lack of
emphasis? has been used to illustrate the confusion. The rhetorical question shows confusion on
behalf of the migrants and a lack of understanding of the Australian people and language. The two
cultures are contrasted through language as warm and

Penn State Scandal Essay
Penn State Scandal
Everything was looking good for Joe Paterno and Penn State football as his football managing
career rose with an overall record of 298 136 3 but in 2011, all that changed. Back in 2000 a
janitor of Penn State witnessed Sandusky receiving oral sex from a young boy, the janitor
reported what he saw to co workers and his supervisor but none of these men reported these
actions to authorities. It wasn t until November 5, 2011 that Sandusky was arrested on a $100,000
bail and up to 40 criminal counts. ESPN were quickly in the scene to investigate and report the
allegations on Sandusky. They quickly reported saying Sandusky was charged with more than 50

Governor, Tom Corbett took action and warned students to refrain from any violence and should
monitor their behavior. The crowd initially was a peaceful demonstration against Coach Paterno s
firing. The crowd quickly turned from a peaceful demonstration to a riotous mob, State College
police said in a statement. The mob attempted to light vehicles on fire, and tore down light posts
and street signs. (Klopman) University officials reminded the students that their actions are
affecting the family of the victims and other victims in the community that were sexually abused.
Assistant coach, Mike McQueary testified to the grand jury in December 2010 that he saw
Sandusky sodomize a naked boy of about 10 years old in the football team s locker room shower
in 2001. The jury quickly saw his testimony more credible than Curley s and Schultz s. Because of
this, Penn State placed Mike on administrative leave. McQueary testified in a grand jury
investigation that eventually led to child sex abuse charges being filed against former defensive
coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The ensuing scandal brought down longtime coach Joe Paterno, who
was fired by university trustees amid growing criticism that he should have done more to stop the
alleged abuse. (Marklein) McQueary changed his story saying he e mailed his friends and

LPE Response
The Problem with the Problem of Evil
I am arguing that the Logical Problem of Evil (LPE) is not a successful argument to reject the
existence of God. This is due to the LPE arguing with an inaccurate definition for the word good .
With the correct definition of good, I will show that an all good and all powerful God can logically
exist simultaneously with evil. A response to my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow
the inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the
existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual
humans are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will
show that this response ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By consistent I m simply referring to the possibility of all of the following to be true at the same
time. When referring to the argument below, consistence would imply that it is possible for all
three lines to be true at the same time.
1. God is all powerful, all knowing, and all good
2. There can be no good without evil
3. Evil is necessary for the existence of God.
I feel as though I must put emphasis on the meaning of the consistency. This characteristic is
implying that all aspects of the argument can be true. However, it is not my claim that this proves
the existence of God; rather, my argument shows that the LPE fails to successfully disprove the
existence of God. Furthermore, an in depth version of the argument I have proposed can help
strengthen this reasoning. This version of my argument starts with the basic definition of God that
has been established earlier in the paper: 1. God is a being that is all powerful, all good, and all
knowing.
When observing the fact that there are individuals who claim the existence of a being defined in
line 1, there is a logical claim that can be assumed. This is claimed in line 2.
2. Mankind knows of a being that is all powerful, all good, and all

Wooramaroo Personal And Community Identity
Place is important in relation to personal and community identity because where we live, in a
way defines us. If we live in the country, we can identify with tropes of bush living or a rural
lifestyle. If we are in the city, that place and cityscape can determine our way of life and sense of
belonging to that place.
Wooramaroo is the story told from the viewpoint of female protagonist Cara McGeever s ten year
old son, Scott, and their change of place as immigrants from inner city working class Liverpool to
Outback Australia in the 1970s.
The novels that have influenced my story are Mullumbimby, Breath, and Heat and Light. Cara
McGeever has suffered loss of place and identity through moving to Australia. Personal and
community identity through place will be discussed through female characters Jo Breen in
Mullumbimby, Eva Sanderson in Breath, and Pearl and Amy Kresinger in Heat and Light.
Life in rural Australian presents strong community spirit and opportunities for Cara to belong to
that space. Outback regions have a strong sense of place because their people experience
commonalities such as dealing with the vagaries of nature. As Tuan (2001, 131) states, Attachment
to place can emerge from the experience of nature s intransigence. The locals bond together in
time of need, as we see at the end when the storm comes to Wooramaroo. It is this vital connection
to the Outback that Cara needs in order to build a new identity, and find a new sense of place.
Tuan goes on to

Ukraine And The Russian Ukrainian Conflict
The breadbasket of Eastern Europe is having a problem with militants who have killed and have
tortured hundreds of people in the name of freedom. The militants, Pro Russian rebels native to
Ukraine, believe that their actions against the government are just. Those who believe that the Pro
Russian Ukrainian rebels are fighting against a corrupt, ultranationalist government are right. The
Ukrainian citizens need to understand, however, that the government of Ukraine is the lesser of
two evils; the rebels have committed many more heinous crimes than the government has. The
rebels are also against policies that can benefit all of Europe and Ukraine. Currently, the Ukrainian
people seek to have a stable nation with a self sufficient government... Show more content on

Unlike the rest of Ukraine, Eastern Ukrainians have received more of a cultural and linguistic
influence from Russia. The Ukrainian people are descended from the nomadic, free Cossacks. The
Cossacks neither loved the tsar not the [Polish] lord and were a people totally separate from the
Russians and Polish (Magosci 19). The roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is
derived from the word Kievian Rus. The Kievian Rus were Ukrainian people who had established
Kiev, the capital of the ancient Russian state (ExpatRu). The name Russia was eventually adopted
by Peter the Great many years later. The Russian speaking Ukrainians have been influenced a lot by
Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the constant transfer of power between
Russia (including the USSR) and other countries. Due to the lack of this knowledge, the rebels have
successfully manipulated the minds of the Russian speaking citizens into thinking they are ethnic
Russians. The support the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection; Russia already
seeks to expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do. Historically,
Ukrainians and many western Russians are Ukrainian; the arrogance the rebels have

Banning Burmese Pythons
Should having a Burmese python as a pet be banned? These pythons are capable of getting up to
23 feet long and weigh up to 200 pounds by the age of only two years old. When having a snake
that can get that long, many people think they have no other choice but to let the snake go when
they get much bigger and become hard to take care of. Are these snakes worth a $100 fee? I think
that Burmese pythons should not be allowed to be pets: to prevent horrible incidents, to prevent
negative effects in the Everglades, and to stop them from taking over Florida. Do you even
wonder how Burmese Pythons get here? Millions of pythons have been imported to the United
States over the past three decades. These snakes were never a major problem till 2002. At... Show

Also this year, the South Florida Water Management District petitioned the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service to add Burmese pythons to a modest list of injurious wildlife maintained under
the 107 year old Lacey Act (Snow). These snakes have been an enormous problem in Florida
from taking over land, killing off animals that are native to Florida, as well as making the
community afraid of going outside. Research shows even though most people don t like the
thought of the Burmese pythons. Molecular biologist Leslie Leinwand has found that the blood
of Burmese contains three molecules that rapidly strengthen heart muscle (King). These snakes
are able to help all kinds of people from damaged hearts. That may change the mind of people
who dislike the Burmese pythons. In conclusion, I still feel as if Burmese pythons should not be
allowed to be pets: to prevent horrible incidents, to prevent negative effects in the Everglades, and
to stop them from taking over Florida. These snakes should have their own habitat away from any
other animals. As well as secure and away from any adults and children. This will keep endangered

Corruption In I Claudius
I, Claudius is a fictional autobiography written in the voice of the fourth Roman Emperor, Tiberius
Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus Claudius for short. The story recounts the period of the
founding of the Roman Empire to the coronation of Claudius himself; but, as seen from the
perspective of Claudius an adamant republican the Roman Empireis one that is doomed to fall,
prophesied by the Sibyl of Cumae, due to political instability and dangerous power struggles.
Similar to the Roman Empire of I, Claudius, the Britain of King Lear also falls into a state of
political chaos akin to anarchy; the sudden abdication of Lear and his senility ultimately bring
about the unravelling of his family, followers, and kingdom. The following power struggles in
Rome and Britain lead to the corruption of many individuals in their respective time periods.
Both I, Claudius by Robert Graves and King Lear by William Shakespeare, set during times of
political turbulence, suggest that the competition for and possession of power can corrupt and alter
individuals and society. Both works are set in times of political turbulence, times in which people
would seize the opportunity to gain absolute power or at least an upper hand over others. In I,
Claudius, Livia, Claudius grandmother, proves to be an incredibly ambitious woman, with the
political acumen to match. Before the birth of the Roman Empire, the Second Triumvirate,
consisting of Mark Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian (at that time), ruled the

The Danger Of A Single Story Analysis
Popular culture is often a reflection of society; both literature and the media have the capacity to
cement ideas in the minds of readers and viewers. In many cases, the notions and stories glorified
by the media refrain from sharing a true depiction of society and are narrow minded in their focus.
Recently, the feminist movement has denounced popularculturefor its ignorance, fighting for a
more realistic portrait to be painted by those with the power to reach millions. Specifically, both
Roxane Gay s Bad Feminist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s The Danger of a Single Story share
how the classic gender stereotypes seen in popular cultureare unable to capture the full spectrum of
stories that define society, and are limiting in their portrayals of women. Moreover, both authors
share personal stories, reference prominent world figures, and cite relevant statistics in their works.
Therefore, in both Bad Feminist and The Danger of a Single Story , Roxane Gay and Chimamanda
Ngozi Adichie appeal to readers pathos, logos, and ethos in order to construct the argument that the
single story of women in popular culture is stereotypical and restrictive. Within her collection of
essays, Roxane Gay uses personal anecdotes that appeal to reader s pathos, constructing her
argument that women are misrepresented and generalized in popular culture by providing an
emotional tether upon which readers can latch on. For example, Gay writes of her experiences as a
struggling adolescent

Theme Of Satire In Lazarillo De Tormes
Lazarillo de Tormes is a famous work of Spanish literature published anonymously. The novel is
written in the first person. Lazarillo de Tormes is known as a picaresque novel in that the novel is
written about a character of the lower class instead of a hero or upper class character. The novel
has several themes, but the theme that is constant throughout the novel is appearance versus reality.
The author utilizes several rhetorical devices in the novel which add emphasis to the story. The
novel, which was banned by the Spanish Crown during the time of the Spanish inquisition, is the
story of the birth and life Lazarillo de Tormesas he serves various masters and his struggle for
survival. His struggles are real. Many of the rhetorical devices serve to add humor to the novel
as well. The author uses satire to support the theme of appearance versus reality. The definition
of satire is an attempt to ridicule, mock, or criticize something or someone with humorous
content. Satire is a rhetorical device that is used throughout the novel. The author uses humor in
the wake of misfortune. This is evident in the chapter where Lazarillo serves his first master, a
blind man. He treated Lazarillo horribly and also starved him. Lazarillo learns many deceitful
things from his master which will serve him well throughout his life. Lazarillo s goal was to get
away from the blind man. An example of satire is the quote, What! You smelled the sausage and
you couldn t smell the post? Ole ? Ole ? I jeered (Albert, Michael 17). Lazarillo was making fun
of the blind man for being able to smell the difference in the sausage and rotten turnips, but he
did not smell the post that Lazarillo purposefully guided him into. Lazarillo was set on getting
away from his first master and this is the clever way that Lazarillo gets away. He leaves without
knowing the condition of his first master. In the end, Lazarillo did manage to outwit the blind
man. The author s portrayal of the clergy can be considered satire as well. The clergy is portrayed
very negatively in the novel. The clergy is not noble, honest or Christ like which is what people
normally equate with a man that holds such a position. According to T. Anthony Perry, there is a

  • 2. Cancer Cell Essay Breaking away: cancer cell dissemination and survival in the periphery Once the primary tumor gains the capacity to evade host immune system and cancer cells enter the circulation, metastatic dissemination takes place. Before metastatic dissemination, the prematastatic niches are primed. Cell types which earlier were recruited to destroy cancer now facilitate in tumor progression(Fig. 2). TME supports cancer cells in leaving the primary tumor site seeding in secondary organs. In the primary tumor one of the initial steps was EMT, during which tumor cells lose epithelial markers and gain mesenchymal traits that confer stem like properties and a migratory phenotype. But in secondary site, cancer cells show phenotypic switching, i.e., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hypoxia takes place in the tumor core due to deficiency of oxygen. Hypoxia mediates immune cell recruitment (eg.; Lymphocytes in colorectal cancer) and concentrates them at the tumor periphery to support cancer invasion at the leading edge. Hypoxia in the tumor core leads to aggressive selection pressure for resilient stem like tumor cells due to which these cells migrate to the periphery of the tumor. 2.3INTRAVASATION According to Paget s hypothesis of seed and soil , cancer cells (seed) gradually acquire mutations in oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes that confer the ability to intravasate, survive in the haematogenous or lymphatic circulation, and prosper in a distant site (soil). This soil would have characteristics that allow the metastatic cell to adhere and proliferate. In humans, certain tumours metastasize to specific organ sites. For example, breast cancers metastasize to lung, liver, bone and brain; melanoma to liver, brain and skin. By contrast, some tumors like glioma do not metastasize, instead migrate along white matter tracks, others such as ovarian tumours are restricted to the peritoneal cavity. Some others such as head and neck cancers only spread to regional lymph nodes. The molecular bases of these differences are poorly if at all understood, but probably have a microenvironmental component. Recent studies mention about the power of transcriptome profiling to identify cohorts of genes of which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Panhandle Promise Project mission is to break the cycle of incarceration for at risk youth; the program offers education, mentoring services, monthly activities, and support for the families. Services for the youth and family are free of charge. The program also offers a summer camp for the youth, this year 35 children were able to attend in the five days camp. In my own personal opinion what makes a manager great is their willingness to listen to their employees and their flexibility as far as scheduling goes. Also their ability to talk to customers as if they have known them a lifetime and make them feel welcome and comfortable. Above all when looking for a great manager leadershipis the key. There is big difference between a leader and just simply a boss. A leader is not afraid to pitch in and help his employees get through a shift. As where a boss just simply gives commands and does not contribute as much as one should. The manager that I currently work with is outstanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People often downplay the significance of this huge task. Journalism allows people to know everything happening all around the world. Whether it be about politics, events or social concerns, the artist is able to express themselves creatively. The cartoons are not only meant to express the view of the creator, but are also open to interpretation. Most political cartoons have a biased point of view and uses rhetoric to persuade its audience. Benjamin Franklin created the first known American political cartoon, Join or Die . One is hurricane Matthew and the other being the earthquake warning in southern California. Quite honestly I m not sure that the earthquake warning counts as weather but it was very interesting and in my opinion is related to geography. So, I will talk about the hurricane. Hurricane Matthew is the strongest hurricane since hurricane Felix in 2007. It is the thirteenth named stormof this year s hurricane season. • 8. Comparison of Values in Great Expectations and The Great... The very essence of money creates an urge in human nature to obtain it and have an excess of it. When people come into wealth and begin rising on the social ladder, they usually become corrupted, and compromise their personal values. In the novels, Great Expectations and The Great Gatsby, the protagonists, Pip and Jay Gatsbyrespectively, believe their wealth is used for the common good, but in reality many valuesare being compromised. Pip and Gatsby both utilize their money in an attempt to bring the women they love into their lives. Along the way toward achieving their goal, they violate ethics, which, in turn, change them as people. Despite the two novels possessing differences, they coincide in many aspects. When ... In both of the novels, Pip and Gatsby receive, or earn their great quantities of money and do not realize at first the money is tainted. Pip s benefactor was none other than Abel Magwitch, a known felon who he encountered at a church graveyard and who threatened Pip for food and a file. In appreciation of Pip s deed in fetching the items for him, Magwitch nobly decides to endow Pip with a large sum of money. The money was gained through evil deeds. Since Compeyson and Magwitch acquired the money through fraud, and conning people out of their hard earned money, it rendered the money evil, or tainted. Even though Pip s relationship with Magwitch progresses and he virtually becomes a father to Pip, the money remains blemished due to the way it was obtained. • 9. Lewis Mere Christianity Lewis discusses the difficult topics of atonement and the Christian life within chapters four and five of Mere Christianity. Lewis maintains his mere Christianity explanation of the topics by not focusing on the multiple theories, by not diving deeper into explanations that will never be fully adequate for Earthly beings, and by focusing on what is true across all denominations of Christianity ; he focuses on what is true for mere Christianity. I find his approach to the doctrines of atonement and the Christian life to be strong. He does not give those who doubt an escape from accepting the truth. Lewis does not focus on the multiple theories and warns the reader against focusing on the theories and not on what all Christians agree upon. Lewis knows that he believes that these three things are important to Christianity but is unable to explain why. By admitting that he cannot explain why, he is allowing the reader to form their own opinion or theory; but he is not allowing room for them not to believe in the three things and in the truth, which is Christianity. Sassy Fox Website Analysis Design Even if a website has good information architecture and content, poor design can take away from the two elements and negatively affect the usability of the site. According to Johnson, successful web design is minimalistic and easily readable with font choices and color palettes (39). The design of Sassy Fox s website is either extremely busy and misleads users or is minimalistic to a fault. Examples of these extremes are the website s header and user forms. • 12. Personal Statement For The Support Group Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around testimonies. I wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we had, specifically spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be able to get to know one another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to people they are still getting to know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my icebreaker to lead into the importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a platform for Christ. For my ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which we had decided would be about our current walk with the Lord. Group goals At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary goal was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one another and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting one another because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported one another as we shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting one another as we talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not exercise the sub goal to support one another because it was more educational than supportive. I was nervous going after we talked about stress because it ... • 14. Architecture Manifesto Example Course: ARC 103 Title: Architecture and Sensitivity: A Manifesto for Sustainable Design This manifesto proposes an approach to sustainable design that I am interested in exploring during my time studying architecture. The idea of sustainability is a complex one, not without apparent contradictions. This makes it difficult to define in a wholly satisfactory manner. For the purposes of this manifesto I will advert to the definition proposed by Jason McLennan who asserts that sustainable design: seeks to maximize the quality of the built environment, while minimizing or eliminating negative impact to the natural environment. I find this definition particularly useful in the emphasis which it places on quality. By quality, in this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While envisaging their project, the architects walked from one side of the city to the other, gauging the character of the brick facades, the polygonal towers, the transitions from streets to courts and the underlying spatial patterns. The resulting design offers a sensitive response to the layered history and unique geography of the site. Applicable case law and legislation were presented to support the evaluation. ITAA 1997 Section 995 1 provides that the meaning of an Australian resident is defined in ITAA 1936 Section 6 (1), which sets out different criteria for determining the residency of individuals and companies. There are four tests to ascertain that an individual is a resident or not. An individual need only to satisfy one of these tests to qualify as a resident for tax purposes. These tests are the ordinary concept test, the domicile test, the 183 day day test and the superannuation test. To assist in determining the residence of a person under the ordinary concept, the following factors need to be considered: physical presence in Australia; if the person is a visitor, the frequency, regularity and duration of visits; the purpose of the visits to Australia and abroad; the maintenance of a place of abode in Australia for the taxpayer s use; the person s family business and social ties; and the person s nationality. • 20. Amy Winehouse Tragic Hero In the land of fame, it is almost expected of you and your career to come to an abrupt end with much drama. Sadly, Amy Winehouse was no exception. As the outstanding musician she was, she was destined to face tragedy. As a woman who possessed traits that included pleasing others, helping others, facing enemies and allies, and then facing a tragedy, she now can, sadly, be considered as a modern tragic hero. Green Champion Paper Example Jakob Hanlon 113886222 Principles of Sustainability Green Champion Paper Brewing of a Sustainable Idea In the current day and age, environmental issues are beginning to be considered more frequently in business decision and in governmental policy. The current threat of global warming, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and extinction of species highlight the consequences of not being environmentally aware. Even the smallest green decisions like choosing to car pool or to recycle can be decisions that have a huge impact that positively effects the environment. These decisions can have far reaching implications. For instance, someone who witnesses these green decisions may be inspired to make environmentally conscious decisions as well. Much in the same way people could be inspired, businesses can be inspired as well. Creating a sustainability initiative in a business can be extremely positive and rewarding. For this reason, I think it is vital that the local beer brewing company, COOP Ale Works, adopt a sustainability program. Many breweries have adopt sustainable framework, two such examples are New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada. I believe by implementing some of these ideals into their brewing process COOP can inspire other businesses to become more sustainable. Capitalism And Feudalism Marx and Engels suggested that the bourgeois revolution destroyed everything that was once held sacred because people had to give up their dreams, passions, and occupations in order to provide for themsel The alienation of labor added insult to injury because workers were forced to sell themselves into slavery. During the 19 century, the industrial revolution had allowed the once impoverished to become obtain wealth through manufacturing and creating jobs, which created new oppressors. The variation of the views even within the egalitarian and complementarian perspectives was interesting. It reminded me that in ourselves alone unity cannot be found. Only in Christ can we obtain unity displaying a countercultural attribute that reflects His light and hope for this world. I am praying for our Great God s faithful help in this. Egalitarian Perspective In learning about the egalitarian perspective from Linda L. Belleville and Craig S. The egalitarian believes scripture supports mutual ministry opportunity for both genders. Belleville states Egalitarian is to believe in the mutual gifting of women and men . (35) Keener s four options of viewing women in ministry is also very helpful. The fourth option is The Bible permits women s ministry under normal circumstances but prohibits it in exceptional cases, in which case we should allow it under most circumstances today (Gundry, Beck 206). Cyrus Clinder Thesis Core Concept Essay One The Cyrus Cylinder, the Mandate of Heaven and the Ashurbanipal document are ancient texts written by or on behalf of leaders of civilizations who came to power through different means. These civilizations shared similar aspects, although differing in some ways. Differences in the style of leadership highlight important cultural variations, which likely contributed to either the success or failure of each empire. The Cyrus Cylinder talks mainly about how Cyrus conquers the old city of Babylon (Cyrus). This document varies from the others because it talks about how Marduk utilized evil and how he tormented the people. He eventually learned how to lessen his anger, and decided to create peace. He decided to do this by finding a new king, Cyrus, to create a more stable civilization. It was likely written to demonstrate the effectiveness of Cyrus style of ruling as well as to establish what the basic human rights are (or should be). To a certain extent, when an event is unexpected, the magnitude of abnormal performance is a measure of the impact of that type of event on the wealth of a firm s shareholders (Brown and Warner, 1980). To begin with, in this paper, we assume the impact is unbiased, which means this market is efficient. In an efficient market, the market price should be an unbiased estimate of the true value of the stock. However, market efficiency does not require the price to be completely matched with true value. Due to randomness, the price can either be under estimated or over estimated at any point of time. When there is an announcement, the changing of prices related to the announcement does not mean the market is inefficient. Martingale property theory assumes that knowledge of past events cannot help to predict future winning s stock price. Only when this condition is satisfied, then the market is a fair game. There are three versions of efficient market hypothesis: weak form efficiency (contains all past price information), semi strong efficiency (contains all public information), and strong efficiency (contains all public and insider information). The better the price signal, the more info efficient the market. Event studies provide a direct test to market efficiency. The day the information is released is generally defined as day zero. Federighi studied the effects of salinity on the size of Urosalpinx cinerea. In 1927,Urosalpinx cinerea were collected to figure out the average size of the species from two different places: Norfolk, Virginia and Beaufort, North Carolina. The average size of each group of the snail was identified, and it turned out the average sizes were very different in the two places. In Norfolk, the average length was between 21 and 25 millimeters, yet in Beaufort the size was 13 to 17 millimeters. It was then that Federighi began to look into the effects of salinity. Immediately, the temperature of the two places could be ruled out as the cause for this size variation because the temperature doesn t really vary between the two places. However, the salinity of the two areas do differ greatly. The results of his experiment indicated that the snails grow larger in brackish water, water that has more salinity than freshwater, but less than seawater. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. How 1960s Has Impacted And Influenced Today s Society How have the 1960s dramatically impacted and influenced today s society? In today s society, there are many controversial topics that we are facing today; we have the 1960s to thank for those things. The sixties was one of the most impactful decades pertaining to culture revolutions; it is the decade that brought into play some of the problems and privileges that the present is dealing with now. The sixties brought the gay movement, women s rights, the drug revolution, and has also impacted music as well. One of the most well known things about the sixties is its music. Bands in the sixties started to break the conservative boundaries by talking about drugs and sex in their music; the drugs and sex revolution in this music also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drugs highly influence music in the sixties with bands such as The Byrds, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and The Beatles. These bands took inspiration from the affects that the drugs had on them with their psychedelic properties. Drugs were also just starting to get introduced and people were highly influenced with positive drug propaganda ( The 60 s ). So, the positivity about drugs were influencing the bands and the bands were influencing the people and the more dugs being bought, the more people heard about them, and the more people heard about them, the more they were used, so basically it was just an endless cycle of drug positivity. So now there are more than a hundred thousand people in America who are being influenced by this music that expresses sex and drug use in positive ways. Also, with the invention for the birth control pill in 1960, the consequences of having sex lessened and now women could be just as involved in it as men where. In 1962, 1.2 million American women were using it and by 1965 that number reached to 2.3 million women (Nikolchev). In the 1950s, sex would have barley been herd of outside of marriage, but now into the sixties, it became more and more common for teens and young adults to be irresponsible. Another example may be the number people that signed the petition and the year that Douglas Southall Freeman School opened, which is 1954 (Shapiro). Therefore, because Shapiro used a large number of people in which, for example, of a County, is somehow significant because the numbers show a positive argument of the article. Also, by showing the year that the school was opened, the year may represent a phenomenal proof of the argument because it may be showing that the story of the Confederate flag may have started in between the decade when the school was created. Nevertheless, given that many readers would want source links because they may think that source credibility is the most important element, Shapiro s unwavering path to credibility may be at risk. Many readers analyze many texts or articles because of their website and author s transparency to the readers to access the source links. For this reason, the capacity for readers to see where the information came from, may be a way to not lead the website into a faГ§ade and a way to guarantee that the information is reliable and credible. • 45. Bruce Dawe s Poems Migrants And The And A Related... Journey is an act of travelling from one place to another which can be seeking permanent home in a different country or travelling in the same country. It can affect different people in many different ways as they get emotional, intellectual and imaginative experiences individually in their life. All of these have been explored in some of Bruce Dawe s meaningful poems migrants and drifters and a related text Still Life which is a short film by Martin Sharpe. The poem migrants was about group of European migrants seeking permanent home in a completely different country to escape from war and have better standard of life but the poem drifters was about a family journeying in the same country. In comparison, the short film, Still Life is about a man who has boring and meaningless life. The composers employ poetic and film techniques to convey the possible positive and negative ramifications of journeys. Journeys can have positive and negative consequences on people as it has been implicated in Dawe s poems and Sharpe s short film. Journeying to a new place shows a contrast of two cultures and lack of understanding of each other. If we live in the country, we can identify with tropes of bush living or a rural lifestyle. If we are in the city, that place and cityscape can determine our way of life and sense of belonging to that place. Wooramaroo is the story told from the viewpoint of female protagonist Cara McGeever s ten year old son, Scott, and their change of place as immigrants from inner city working class Liverpool to Outback Australia in the 1970s. The novels that have influenced my story are Mullumbimby, Breath, and Heat and Light. Cara McGeever has suffered loss of place and identity through moving to Australia. Personal and community identity through place will be discussed through female characters Jo Breen in Mullumbimby, Eva Sanderson in Breath, and Pearl and Amy Kresinger in Heat and Light. The story recounts the period of the founding of the Roman Empire to the coronation of Claudius himself; but, as seen from the perspective of Claudius an adamant republican the Roman Empireis one that is doomed to fall, prophesied by the Sibyl of Cumae, due to political instability and dangerous power struggles. • 57. The Danger Of A Single Story Analysis Popular culture is often a reflection of society; both literature and the media have the capacity to cement ideas in the minds of readers and viewers. In many cases, the notions and stories glorified by the media refrain from sharing a true depiction of society and are narrow minded in their focus. Recently, the feminist movement has denounced popularculturefor its ignorance, fighting for a more realistic portrait to be painted by those with the power to reach millions. Specifically, both Roxane Gay s Bad Feminist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s The Danger of a Single Story share how the classic gender stereotypes seen in popular cultureare unable to capture the full spectrum of stories that define society, and are limiting in their portrayals of women. Moreover, both authors share personal stories, reference prominent world figures, and cite relevant statistics in their works. Therefore, in both Bad Feminist and The Danger of a Single Story , Roxane Gay and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie appeal to readers pathos, logos, and ethos in order to construct the argument that the single story of women in popular culture is stereotypical and restrictive. Within her collection of essays, Roxane Gay uses personal anecdotes that appeal to reader s pathos, constructing her argument that women are misrepresented and generalized in popular culture by providing an emotional tether upon which readers can latch on. • 58. Theme Of Satire In Lazarillo De Tormes Lazarillo de Tormes is a famous work of Spanish literature published anonymously. The novel is written in the first person. Lazarillo de Tormes is known as a picaresque novel in that the novel is written about a character of the lower class instead of a hero or upper class character. The novel has several themes, but the theme that is constant throughout the novel is appearance versus reality. The author utilizes several rhetorical devices in the novel which add emphasis to the story. The novel, which was banned by the Spanish Crown during the time of the Spanish inquisition, is the story of the birth and life Lazarillo de Tormesas he serves various masters and his struggle for survival. His struggles are real. Many of the rhetorical devices serve to add humor to the novel as well. The author uses satire to support the theme of appearance versus reality. The definition of satire is an attempt to ridicule, mock, or criticize something or someone with humorous content. Satire is a rhetorical device that is used throughout the novel. The author uses humor in the wake of misfortune. This is evident in the chapter where Lazarillo serves his first master, a blind man. He treated Lazarillo horribly and also starved him. Lazarillo learns many deceitful things from his master which will serve him well throughout his life. Lazarillo s goal was to get away from the blind man. An example of satire is the quote, What! You smelled the sausage and you couldn t smell the post? Ole ? Ole ? I jeered (Albert, Michael 17). Lazarillo was making fun of the blind man for being able to smell the difference in the sausage and rotten turnips, but he did not smell the post that Lazarillo purposefully guided him into. Lazarillo was set on getting away from his first master and this is the clever way that Lazarillo gets away. He leaves without knowing the condition of his first master. In the end, Lazarillo did manage to outwit the blind man. The author s portrayal of the clergy can be considered satire as well. The clergy is portrayed very negatively in the novel. The clergy is not noble, honest or Christ like which is what people normally equate with a man that holds such a position. According to T. Anthony Perry, there is a high ...
