Single Methods That Enables Children To Read In Class
It is the responsibility of teachers to identify and employ teaching methods that enables students to
acquire ability to read in class. There is no single effective method that successfully works for all
children because of various reason. I agree with the International Reading Association statement
states that indeed, there is no single method or combination of different types of method that can
teach all the children successfully how to read (International Reading Association, 1999).
Psychologically, children are different, therefore, understand in a different manner (Richards
Rodgers, 2014). For instance, some of the children are able to understand better when teachers
employ example and drawings in class. Some have better listening ability while others understand
better when they make notes. Based on this difference, it is difficult to establish a combination of
methods or single methods that can effectively assist children how to read in class.... Show more

It is therefore difficult to determine that indeed, a certain method of teaching is effective compared
to another (Burke et al., 2015). A teacher is therefore required to employ multiple methods aimed at

Women In The Iliad
Unlike other ancient literature such as Epic of Gilgamesh, the Iliad gave women
multidimensional characteristics. Although the Iliad revolved around various male characters
and war, the propulsion of the story are the women. The women play significant role in the Iliad
despite being viewed as property. However, they were not only property, they are also the highest
form of honor, markers of social status, wives, war prizes, caregivers, mothers, partners and
slaves. The Iliad has very few women in the story, nevertheless when we are shown a glimpse of
one of the women, Homer made sure they have strong voices, character developments and symbolic
impute in the story. Homer also divided the women characters in two categories: the women who are

Throughout The Iliad Helen plays critical role in the story, after all this war is for her and about
her. Helen falls into the category of women who have some type of control over their lives. The
war started in the name of Helen We ll fight it out for Helen and all her wealth because she is the
highest form of honor. Throughout the book every time there is a scene with Helen interacting
with other characters, especially Paris we get the sense that he considers her to be his equal
partner. Helen often spoke her mind about the war, voiced her concerns and shared her opinion
of Paris actions openly, which indicates that she is equal. Unlike Helen, Briseis is different and
has little to no control over her life or faith. Briseis does not fight, voice her opinion, protest or
question the treatment she receives from Achilles and other men. Nonetheless, her role in the
story was significant because Achilles withdraw from battel when he was forced to give Briseis
to Agamemnon. This puts Briseis in the category of women who accept the role they are given by
the men without question. Patroclus obeyed his great friend s [Achilles] command. He led Briseis
in all her beauty from the lodge and handed her over to the men to take away. Andromache in the
other hand represent the role of a good and loving wife. Andromache like Helen share her

Olaratumab Case Study
Sarcomas are rare and considerably heterogeneous malignant tumours with a plethora of different
tumour behaviours, corresponding to almost 1.5% of all adult malignancies2. For most sarcoma
subtypes the mainstay of management for localized disease is complete surgical resection with or
without radiation. However, despite optimal treatment about 50% of patients with high grade
tumours will develop metastatic disease. The outcome for patients with advanced STS is poor with
a median overall survival of approximately 18 months. Furthermore, historically the treatment
options for patients with advanced disease have been limited. The introduction of imatinib and
other targeted therapies in gastro intestinal stromal tumours has in many ways been... Show more

Olaratumab signifies a meaningful improvement of clinical efficacy (mOS gain of nearly a year
and an acceptable toxicity profile, both as a monotherapy and in combination) in a disease
setting, where several agents and combinations have failed418619 and based on the Phase II data
has gained approval in a number of countries in combination with doxorubicin. Moreover, should
the ongoing trials of the combination of olaratumab with gemcitabine/docetaxel20 (table 2) be
confirmatory of its clinical efficacy and tolerability, the use of olaratumab is anticipated to be
incorporated in several standard regimens and become a key innovation in the management of
patients with advanced STS. Expert Opinion The efficacy results observed in the JGDG trial
undoubtedly represent a promising agent for the treatment of this challenging group of diseases.
However, these results should be met with an equal degree of diligent consideration and carefully
interpreted. Although we have potentially taken a positive step forward, it is often that earlier
Phase trial outcomes fail to replicate in randomised studies21. Besides, early Phase studies are
frequently subject to selection, surveillance, and publication bias. It included patients with a

The Cost Of College Textbooks
With college textbooks on the rise, it is no surprise that college students are unable to purchase the
appropriate textbooks for their courses or they are choosing alternative courses altogether. The cost
of college textbooks has increased by an alarming amount of three times the rate of inflation,
approximately 1,041 percent. The need for institutions of higher education to find ways to make
textbooksmore affordable to their students is stronger than ever. Unfortunately, most college and
universitybookstores are made for profit which inflates the cost of their textbooks and requires
students to look elsewhere such as online, purchasing from previous students, or renting from the
campus library.
Over the last decade, the price of college textbooks has increased by 88 percent; 25 percent more
than the rise in cost of tuition and fees. The College Board has estimated that the average college
student had spent around 1,249 dollars for the 2015 16 school year on textbooks alone. The textbook
companies and campus bookstores are reaping in the profits at the college students expense by
decreasing the success rate in each course when a student is attempting the course with no material.
As students are faced with these rising textbook costs, many choose not to purchase their textbooks.

solve pressing public interest problems. A survey conducted by Student PIRG s showed that

Representation Of Class And Class Struggle
Later theorist like Hall and Chakrabarty assert traditional early social science premised on white
patriarchal, male dominated European colonialism and ideology alone, does nott consider the
important values of other cultures and the articulation of race in the historical development and
Capitalism. Thus they assert that the past, and present practices and histories of other races,
cultures and cultures practices thwart the totalizing attempt of the earlier theorist like Gramsci and
Bourdieu. Chakrabarty and Hall argue that other societies local as well as cultural practices

He asserts we must question historicism as an idea thus suggesting that to understand anything it
has to be understood as a whole via its historical development (6). Thus, the totalizing theory makes
society blind to how local knowledge, different races, and cultures are essential in the development
of history. Developing a distinction Marx made between the two kinds of history, Chakrabarty
says History 1 is defined as the history of capitalism, and History 2, is defined as the development
of human history that does not fit in the metanarrative of History 1 (50). Chakrabarty says Marx
totalizing theories argue, that History 2, will ultimately be subsumed by History 1 overall history
of capitalism from feudal stages to the present, However Chakrabarty argues that History 2 is not
separate from capital. As History 2 inherent in capital but interrupts and punctuates the logic of
capitalism (64). Additionally, Marx, (Marxist) Gramsci thinks that History 1 is the real history,
while Chakrabarty asserts without History two there would be no History one as history two is
charged with the function of constantly interrupting the totalizing thrusts of History 1 (66).
Chakrabarty details how Marxist abstract and real labor analogies fails to illustrate their theoretical
application in other local and cultures. Therefore, the Western thought of Marxismas with Gramsci

Case Against Timothy Mcveigh
When it came to the evidence and forensics involved with the Oklahoma City bombing, there
was a plethora of items to be used against Timothy McVeigh to show his guilt. To prove McVeigh
s guilt, the prosecution needed a motive. This was not going to be hard to do when McVeigh
himself was so outspoken against the federal government. As stated earlier, McVeigh was upset
regarding Ruby Ridge and also the raid at the Branch Davidian compound. But McVeigh also had
what was known as the Turner Diaries , which were antigovernment leaflets that the prosecution
stated were blueprints for the bombing ( Prosecutors almost through , 1997). McVeigh s very own

This puts males above women, showing that they are indeed more intelligent and creative, and
that they do things that require creativity and logical thinking. Moreover, when Tolkien
comments on Elves sex life, he states that the union of love is indeed to them great delight and
joy , however, with the exercise of the power (of generation), the desire soon ceases, and the
mind turns to other things...they have many other urges of body and of mind which their nature
urges them to fulfil (Tolkien Laws Customs Among the Eldar 213). This shows that male Elves
are sexually attracted to females only before their first child, which puts the role of women in the
negative light. Moreover, Tolkien, when writing about the Elves in The Silmarillion, presents the
relationship between Aredhel and Eöl as the toxic one, which is very visible in the fragment
when Eöl speaks to Turgon, the brother of Aredhel: I care nothing for your secrets and I came

Astrophysicist Stephen Hawking s Impact On Society
The universe is full of mysteries, mysteries people are afraid to know or discover. Noted
astrophysicist Stephen Hawking is a firm believer in the black hole and cosmology. Stephen
Hawking has had a significant impact on society because he overcomes his disability, creating
theories of the black hole and is the author of several popular books.
Hawking was born on January 8,1942. He was the oldest of four children with parents that both
graduated from Oxford. Neighbors would always say all the kids were focused on reading and the
dinners would always be silent. At the age of 17, Hawking entered Oxford and went towards physics

impact on the scientific community and could lead other future scientists to discover more than
what meets the eye. Stephen Hawking and James Hartle have discovered that the universe has no
physical boundaries, and that with the combination of general theory of relativity and quantum
mechanics, black holes can die. That the vacuum of space is not empty but filled with pairs of
particles in which helps the scientists know more about the black hole. Hawking also thinks that
the whole universe itself is a black hole that could explode outward and turn into a black hole
once again. Even though some people think Stephen Hawking s black hole theories are pointless
because we don t need to know these for daily basis. These theories could lead to more discoveries
in the future All these theories are making an impact on society and helping scientists know more
about the black hole and how it works and maybe answer some of the mysterious questions that are

Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles
The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles.
I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share
some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused
on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroquestyle is
plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles
contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer
s Woman Holding a Balance.
The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals
focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often
very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the
Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to
evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to
be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is
the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and
probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. The Baldacchino
is located in St. Peter s Basilica and made of bronze and stands ninety three feet high

Heather Rowley Thesis Statement
This paper is to discuss the thesis written by Heather Rowley as a Ph.D. paper. Her final thesis
was submitted to University of York in 2014 and its considered to be successful thesis regardless
the time constrains that she faced. In my critique, I will assess the theoretical frame work, research
methodology, contribution and key findings. In addition, I will discuss if Rowley was successful to
answer the key researchquestion: is ownership enough to secure employee engagement in
Employee Owned Organizations (EOCs)? I argue throughout this paper that Rowley has not
focused on the important factors affecting employee engagement, hence she was not able to give a
clear answer to her thesis main questions.

ownership which majorly conducted on private and public companies without looking to different
types of organizations. Also, there is no academic work has clearly studied the driving of
employee ownership to partially secure high engagement levels. Most of the studies exist focus
only on employee ownership separately and employee engagements separately. So the inductive
research theory that she has adapted is the basis of her new theory of the relationship between
employee ownership and their engagement. Rowley has argued that perhaps the philosophy of
falsificationisim might be usable in her paper as it takes available knowledge and then test with

Lab We Use A Metal Compass Essay
In lab we used a metal compass to measure and to find our two point threshold acuity. When Dario
was measuring my two point sensitivity, I was blindfolded and had to judge whether or not I felt
one point or two points. We tested these on multiple locations being, the pad of my index finger,
pinky and thumb. We also measured our two point sensitivity on the center of my palm, back of my
hand and the top and bottom of my forearm. We took these measurements by starting the metal
compass at 1mm for each location. The experimenter would incrementally increase the metal
compass after each trial until the participant said they felt two points. The experimenter would then
verify that measurement and would repeat the measurement once again for accuracy. My results for
my two point threshold sensitivity can be found on the table above. However, we found that the
pads of my fingertips had the greatest number of receptive field. This didn t surprise me because it
makes senseto have a greater number of receptive fields in areas that are most predominantly used
for touch. Something that did surprise me though was how few of receptive fields I had on my
palm, back of my hand and on the top and bottom of my forearms. It makes sense that I d have
fewer receptive fields in this area because I don t use this for touch usually but how few of
receptive fields I had in these areas really surprised me. These measurements tell us that the number
of receptive fields are predominantly

Stricter Gun Control Laws
Do stricter gun control laws, equal less violence and death rates in America?
Gun control (or firearms regulation) is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale,
transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians (Wikipedia). Some presume that
this means banning guns. In actuality, gun control only acts to protect citizens through enforcing the
appropriate use of firearms; it does not ban the weapon. By implementing stricter gun laws and
regulations, there would be a large decrease in death rates and help prevent violence in America.
For instance, the United States Constitution Second Amendment declares that everyone has the
right to bear arms . The United States Constitution was written with the intention of securing all
United States citizens basic rights. Its purpose is to outline the laws of this country by mandating
the powers of the people and what the United States government considers acceptable. Despite this,
people feel the introduction of stricter gun control laws would deny them their sense of safety by
violating their right to defend themselves by the law of the Second Amendment. By allowing
everyone including criminals the ability to gain ownership of a weapon, increases violence and
death rates in America. Therefore, stricter gun control laws and regulations should be implemented.
Furthermore, many people feel that guns are not causing the problems, people that are using these
weapons are. This is partially true.

Piano Music Research Paper
The Healing Power of Piano Music
Music is a powerful universal language that can unite people and heal broken hearts. Research
on the healing power of music in the fields of medical health and clinical psychology date back
many years. Several clinical studies have shown that music therapy has an ingrained ability to
cause spiritual, physical and emotional healing. Although the real science behind the power of
music to heal is yet to be fully documented, many people appreciate the fact that music can soothe
the soul and bring joy, something that is beneficial to the body. Happiness in itself cannot be
prescribed as a cure for illnesses, but it creates a perfect ground for positive coping. Because a
happy heart and mind can easily overcome an ailment by creating a perfect fighting and survival
mechanism.
This is all easy to decipher because feeling unhappy, sad or self absorbed can cause both mental
and physical anguish. Music therapy has been shown to have a positive impact in children,
adolescents, adults and elderly people suffering from various conditions. Research conducted in

kind of music would seem like a good candidate for soothing music compared to heavy metal or

The two brothers were previously in a band called Corner Street Light before Arswain that was a

Another track that stands out from Arswain is Lois Lane from their second album Fortress. The
song has much deeper roots and lyrical meanings than most of their other tracks. The track is a
metaphor for how technology can remove us from reality and can create a new world in which we

Comparing The Integumentary System And Reproductive System
1. Integumentary System and Reproductive System
Several systems work alongside the integumentary system to keep the body functioning properly.
For instance, the integumentary system and the reproductive system are dependent on each other.
The skin, an organ of the integumentary system, protects the organs of the reproductive system,
such as the uterus. The mammary glands, highly modified glands that are part of the integumentary
system, provide milk for an infant after its birth. Skin stretches to accommodate a growing fetus in
the uterus as well. The reproductive system has many functions that aid the integumentary system.

Lord Byron And William Shakespeare
Since the beginning of time, human beings have found a variety of ways to illustrate their
affections for one another. An intriguing form to present an individual s ideal thoughts across is
the form of poetry, for it displays a deep and mysterious meaning behind the connotation of the
words used. Poetry allows writers to express themselves through the act of writing with the usage
of a few words. However, it is sometimes difficult for a reader to comprehend what the poem is
trying to imply, but that is the beauty behind poetrywhich as a reader, one might have a different
interpretations from another. In an analysis of She walks in beauty by Lord Byron and Sonnet
130 by William Shakespeare, they both have a unique distinction on how the words are used to
project affections to their respective lover. The linguistic style of the poets diverges in their
depiction the physical appearance, emotive feelings, and understanding what the lover means to
them. Lord Byron and William Shakespeare did an incredible job analyzing their counterpart s
physical appearance that was just mind blowing to a reader. Throughout the poem She walks in
beauty by Lord Byron, he uses imagery that allowed him to compare his lover with nature. She
walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies, And all that s best of dark and
bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to the tender light Which heaven gaudy day

Critique of Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot and...
Critique of Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot and Albert Camus The Stranger Modernist fiction
is incredibly dense and abstract. Writers from the twentieth century also seem to carry with them
the weight of the world, and thus their fiction has been filled with realistic misery and pain. Still,
these writers often add to this element with existentialist thematic structures, which construct a very
unique and experimental viewpoint on a modern existence. This is what is occurring in both
Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godotas well as Albert Camus The Stranger. The two a very different
in format, yet both play upon the modernist idea of abandonment by God and the idea that there is
an underlying sense of nothingness that guides modern life. Each focuses on the notion of free will
and how it determines our lives in a world devoid of God. Together, these great works of
contemporary fiction are a telling testament to the changing nature of sentiments regarding both
religion and the meaning of life in a tumultuous twentieth century paradigm. The two works are
written in very different styles, but each has its own unique quality that adds to the overall success
of the works themselves. Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot is a play, and is thus written with
stage directions and dialogue instructions, as it is meant to be both a piece of literary mastery and a
wonderful stage experience. It is this traditional play structure that counterbalances the more
modern thematic

The Body Language
The term kinesics was coined by anthropologist Ray Birdwhistell in 1952 and refers to the
interpretation of body movements, facial expressions, and gestures. Understanding the grammar of
kinesics can be difficult because it requires careful longitudinal observations and are situationally
dependent. To add to the issues not everyone has the same body language, however, some
nonverbal behaviors are believed to originate from the limbic brain and are universal.
Much of the interpretation of kinesics seems to be in some cases speculative offering a range of
possibilities and other interpretations are obvious. For example nail biting is obviously nervous
behavior that I think all people recognize. However, Joe Navarro claims that bouncing ... Show

It records memories of behaviors and is responsible for what we call emotions. The hippocampus,
amygdala, and hypothalamus are the main components of the limbic brain. The limbic brain is
where make value judgments that influence on our behavior. It is thought that this part of the brain
reacts reflexively and is difficult to disguise or eliminate.
The neocortex first appeared in primates and is most developed in humans. These developed
hemispheres are thought to be responsible for the development of language, abstract thought, and
consciousness. The neocortex has almost limitless learning abilities. However, the reptilian, limbic,
and neocortex do not operate independently. They have many connections with one another.
Terms for these parts of the brain originated in the 1940s, and some neuroscientists have suggested
that the concept should be abandoned. However, while the limbic system remains the predominate
explanation (both in neuroscience and popular culture) of how the brain makes emotion, it is a
flawed and inadequate theory of the emotional brain (LeDoux 2003). The limbic system theory has
trouble explaining why damage to limbic areas like the hippocampus can result in deficits with
cognition and memory. When the limbic system is activated in a purely cognitive task it is
assumed that there must have been some emotional component to the task. Many researchers seem
to think this explanation is based in tradition rather than facts.

the lead actors, of course there are exceptions to that case, but for the most part that is true. The
funny thing is, you can t tell the story without other characters. Just think about the movie
Cinderella, she wouldn t have been able to go to the ball or meet the prince unless her fairy
godmother a.k.a supporting actor, came to her rescue. She wouldn t have ever meet anyone in the
first place unless there was a prince a.k.a another supporting actor. Some of the most iconic films

Why a Resistant strand of Group A Streptococcus is Causing Problems in Children and Becoming
Resistant to Antibiotics
Abstract: Streptococcus is a bacteria that has been evolving through the recent centuries. A new
form of these bacteria from group A streptococcus is becoming resistant and creating a whole new
kind of this disease. The new form of this disease is twenty seven percent resistant to the antibiotic
and is causing pneumonia meningitis in children. The new cures being created to fight against
these bacteria are great except for that the new vaccine has no effect on children. Researches have
finally found a vaccine that is effective on children because of a protein that is attached to the
vaccine. Within a period of three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three kinds or groups of streptococcus A, B, and C group. Group A streptococcus are
known as streptococcus pyogenes, which are also known as S pyogene. In 1884 the organism was
named s pyogene by the scientist Rosebach (Sat Sharma MD, 2004). Though the bacteria wasn t
named till 1884 it was first described by Billroth in 1874. Streptococcus is known to cause the
diseases rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, tonsillitis, pneumonias, sinusitis, and
Streptococcus Group A 2 ear infections (American Academy of Otolaryngology). There are
antibiotics for these diseases, but over the years they have been becoming more resistant.
Streptococcus is becoming more resistant to antibiotics. Over a period of three years from
September 1, 1993 to August 31, 1996 a study was done on children suffering from the resistant
group A streptococcus (Dr. Arditi, 1999). This new group A strain caused children pneumococcal
meningitis. Researches looked at eight different hospitals in the United States and one hundred and
eighty cases within these three years. The study was designed to look at clinical presentation,
hospital course, and the outcome from the children being cured. As they watched and monitored the
children s progress on the different antibiotics used to cure streptococcus. Also the researchers has
to take into consideration if the streptococcus was becoming resistant, which antibiotics were given
as treatment, and from those antibiotics which streptococcus became

Causes Of Migration In The World Economy Of 1870-1914
Although I explained the occurrence of wage difference between Europe and the new world,
having only one data of evidence is just not enough. As an economic student, further information
is needed to support the argument in the above paragraph. Since we already know income in the
new world would increase over the period of 1870 to 1914, I would like to investigate the cause
of it, why was it increasing when mass migration started and the population in the new world
(US here at an example) began to grow rapidly. Based on the numbers provided in Table 1
(Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version].
, 129(3), 1 10.), US experienced positive immigrations from all the sending countries in Europe,
which confirmed that the population of the emigration received was indeed growing and led to
the overall population growth. If the US population was growing, what happened to the real
wage? Let me form a simple economic model with only downward sloping demand and upward
sloping supply for both US and one of a European nation. At, equilibrium their intersection
determines the real wage. Since we are talking about migration, let us assume we only have human
movement between two nations. Machine and capitals are excluded by this analysis. By looking at
TableA2 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic

tells a story about a soldier and Olympic runner named Louis Zamperini who becomes a captive
to the Japanese and is imprisoned and question throughout his time there. While he is there he is
treated harshly from many of the soldiers they did not take a liking to him. The main antagonize
was a man named the Bird a Japanese head officer who puts Louie zamperini through most of his

propose a new, radical solution to world trade problems a solution that brings equilibrium to the
trading relationships between the poorest and richest countries. The book contains an in depth,
college level understanding of fair tradeand its theoretical applications on third world countries.
With regards to theoretical applications, the book elaborates on the proposal, which is fair trade, and
how it can initiate development in a country. Besides providing a holistic and substantive
perspective on fair trade, the book also expounds on the effects of globalizationon world trade and
the development of third world countries. The book is useful to the study, as it will provide a
clearer and better understanding of fair trade and support the arguments in the study. The main
limitation of the study is that the book covers a wide area fair trade, world trade, and third world
countries, without going in depth to labor rights abuse.
Formed from the decimation of industrial jobs and farm incomes due to the unjust terms of trade
and arrangements in the Philippines, Fair Trade Alliance elaborates on how fair trade can elevate
the Philippines and other similar countries economic status sustainably. The book provides a

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

The Kingdom of Heaven is an epic film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and written by
William Monahan, filmed in Morocco. The story of the Kingdom of Heaven is set during the
Crusades of the 12th century, and is basically about the life of Balian, a French blacksmith, who
defends the Kingdom of Jerusalem against the Muslims and reclaims the city from the Christians.
In this story, I could travel back in time to experience life during the era of the Crusades.
To better understand the Kingdom of Heaven, it is important to know what the Crusades were. The
Crusades were a series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims which started primarily to

Nevertheless, these expeditions influenced great transformations in the medieval world. They
have weakened feudal aristocracy, strengthened royal power, and made possible the expansion
of the market. Eastern civilization contributed much to European cultural enrichment,
promoting intellectual development. Never again was Jerusalem dominated by Christians, but
the movements on the way to the Holy Land expanded relationships with the known world at the
time. The first hour of Kingdom of Heaven is decisive for the rest of the film. It is in these
moments that we will meet Balian, a blacksmith who is devastated after he lost his wife who had
committed suicide. It is important to say that suicide was considered to be an irredeemable sin,
for example, the church believed suicide was a road to hell. Balian has no prospects in life
when he receives a visit from Baron Godfrey of Ibelin. He introduces himself as Balian s father
and invites him to become a knight and defend Jerusalem, ruled by King Baldwin IV, who is a
leper hidden behind a mask of iron. Godfrey knows the difficult moment that Balian is going
through, so he introduces him to Jerusalem (presented in the film as the new world where love
exists instead of hate, a multi ethnic city, sacred to three religions, strategic gateway to the East
and to the West) as a journey of redemption in which his son will redeem himself of his sins and
he will save the soul of the suicidal wife. After speaking this, Balian cannot

opportunity to add my own different drills or tweak her drills a little. One drill that I was wanting
to really try was a small game because I think that a small game would give the children the most
amount of fun but also they would learn the most because they would have to put all the skills
they learnt earlier into play. I learnt that running a lacrosse clinic was harder to run than expected

Analysis Of Teenage Drivers
We has humans are prone to accidents. Because of this, you often see news articles consisting of
fatal and devastating crashes, of which are most oftenly new teen drivers. As such, there is extra
precautions taken by the government or the school you might go to to help prevent these crashes
from happening. In the article Teen Drivers the writer discusses many points on why these bizarre
accidents are in fact worse than they appear to be. As a result of reading the article, my views on
teenage drivinghave been confirmed.
Following the writer explains how teens driving is prone to accidents while driving with

degrees around them: on the road, on the lights, the cars around him/her, the marking on the road,
pedestrians. Maybe they are also inclined to state their input on the conversations in the car
possibly having to fulfill the demands of those passengers. Now, imagine that situation with a

The Death Penalty And The United States
The death penalty, as we know it today, didn t exist in the United States until 1976. However, the
American penal system has incorporated capital punishment since the earliest settlements were
founded in the early 1600 s. The first recorded execution in the United States occurred in 1608 in
Jamestown, Virginia when Captain George Kendall was executed just one year after the Jamestown
settlement had been established after he had been convicted of being a spy for Spain (Part I:
History of the Death Penalty). Over the next 250 years, several states moved toward abolishing
capital punishment altogether. While there has been serious push towards ending capital
punishment, more than half of state governments within the United States cling onto their right to
execute criminals who perform truly heinous crimes. While many states have maintained their
Constitutional right to perform actions outside of the realm of the Federal government, public
opinion of the death penalty began to dwindle within the United States as many of its allies
emerged from World War II. The United States and her allied nations bore witness to the
devastating actions performed by Nazi Germany and the Concentration Camps and must have
therefore felt a great desire to ensure that no such actions could be decreed by a government over
its people. The landmark case for capital punishment in the United States occurred in 1972 in
Furman v. Georgia. In the case, ...prisoners were sentenced to death after

REAL MADRID CASE STUDY
Summary
Real Madrid is one of the most storied sports franchises in the world. It is one of the few sports
teams with international appeal to a very broad fan base. This case delves into how Real Madrid
transitioned from a good soccer team with a winning history into the global sports juggernaut we
know today.
We first examined Real Madrids revenue streams and found that from their inception through the
1970s their business model was based almost entirely on their ticket sales. After the 1970s up until
2003 they had some media rights, a small merchandising department, and some other negligible
streams of income. It was in 2003 that team President Florintino Perez decided to make Real Madrid

Execution of each stage allowed Real Madrid to take in revenue through several streams such as
match day and international competition, marketing(merchandise sold at the clubs web site and
stores, sponsorships, fan cards, etc. ), broadcast and pay tv revenue (Exhibit 1).
The club further evolved to identify 4 brand drivers that Perez stated would nurture and project the
Real Madrid brand worldwide. The first was the size of the audience, secondly the frequency in
which the audience engaged with the brand, thirdly, the socio demographic characteristics of the
audience and lastly, bridges that could be built to link the brand and the audience. Each of these
changes reflected the clubs transition to a global brand with marketing capability.
Growth opportunities for Real Madrid existed in both new and existing markets. With content seen
as the product, opportunities to provide new content to current markets were available through
pay tv and new technologies like movies, video games and use of the Real Madrid website. The
website could also be used to for additional merchandising as well. For new markets, winning on
the field was translated to good content and provided Real Madrid with an advantage over other
clubs in the battle to recruit new fans from international markets.
The greatest risk to Real Madrid s revenue streams was the prospect of losing on the field. Ideally,

Divine law, According to the current king Creon, the crime committed by Polyneices accounted

He also opposed the irrational law of the gods and favored his own rational law. With Creon s

was offended by Polyneices and his emotions were brought out when he said, No man shall bury,
none should wail for him; unsepulchred, shamed in the eyes of men . This line has a profound
impact on the audience, as it gives them a good look at Creon s overall disposition, and it also
instills a feeling of resentment towards Creon, as he is misusing the power he has been given.
In addition to this, Creon also brings himself closer to the wrath of the gods by killing anyone
who attempts to bury Polyneices. This is basically killing an innocen person who has done
nothing wrong, and this crates further dislike towards Creon from the audience. Creon s egoistic
nature prevented him from seeing the true repercussions of his actions, and because he was
blinded by his power, he did not think that anyone would stand up to his changing of laws and
rules. His disbelief in everyone and everything gave him a very hard time to think whom to trust

Summary Dry White Season Adam Simon CGW 4U1 Dry White Season was what I felt to be an
exemplary interpretation of how native South Africans truly condemned the immoral Apartheid
political system of the mid 1900 s. Though the film was quite graphic, explicit nature seemed
necessary to prove how racial brutality towards the black community really did exist. I enjoyed
the whole idea of a narrow minded white man making the transition from a life of socially
superior racial prejudice to become a devoted supporter of black rights. I found this really helped
create a strong liberal message to aid viewers in understanding the sick intolerance of the majority

represented the loyal and resourceful character that led the viewer to believe there was a shed of

Despite some predictable qualities, the characters were still interesting. I thought Donald

My Father Research Paper
The person who I consider to be the biggest role model in my life is my father. My father has
been a role model for me ever since I was young, he was the one to show me that if I wanted to
succeed then I had to do so with my own knowledge and with my own capabilities. He was never
the person to shield me from the realities of the world, but at the same time he helped me to
understand what was happening and how these world problems could potentially affect me. He
was the one to show me that life will continue to happen whether or not I was prepared to do so.
My father conveyed to me the importance of searching for opportunities instead of letting them
come to me because life does not work that way. Life is not just going to provide me with help if
I do not give an honest attempt to produce results myself. As a child I looked up to my father,
especially since growing up I was the oldest child of the family. I did not have an older sibling to
look up to and to learn from like my younger siblings which is what made it possible for me to
look up to my father. A main reason that I had for looking up to my father was due to his strong
commitment to go heritage and culture. The fact that my father came to this country as an
immigrant from mexico and he came to this country without anything. No knowledge of the
country and its language, just the basic necessities of life which was some clothes and money,
amazed me. Additionally, my father played as a substantial role model in how I entered society

where I began to pick up english and a more centered idea of the world. As a result, I wanted to

nature of his experience in the war, he needed to describe the essence of what it was truly like. I

The psychological effects, the mentality of fighting and killing another human, and the sheer
decimation of human values is what makes war atrocious. War is not only fought on the
battlefield though. This book also describes the feelings of a soldier fighting his own demons
that war has brought on. The battle that the soldier has with himself, is almost if not more
damaging than the physical battle of war. He will never forget his experience with battle, no
matter how hard he tries the memories of artillery, blood, and death cannot be erased. I prayed
like you to survive, but look at me now. It is over for us who are dead, but you must struggle,
and will carry the memories all your life. People back home will wonder why you can t forget.
(Sledge). This struggle still happens to soldiers today. Sledge s words of the struggles still
captures the effects of warfare that lingers today. The other effects that war has on the men is the
instability that surrounds them at every hour of the day. They are either engaged in battle having
bullets and artillery fired at them, or waiting for battle just so they can be deposited back in the
pressure cooker of survival. Lying in a foxhole sweating out an enemy artillery or mortar barrage
or waiting to dash across open ground under machine gun or artillery fire defied any concept of

touched. Meaning that if good music is made and performed, people would be willing to listen
to it. Each and every piece of music creates a certain mood. Some people are very enthusiastic
about music. Its their passion. Lost for words, so lets just address this, music can do something
to you. Last but not least, the final reason. Music can benefit you and others buy the income. It
can benefit you buy bringing in big bucks, so needs and wants can be taken care of. To get those
big bucks, you really have to put time, effort, dedication, heart, mind, and soul into this to actually

Examples Of Masculinity In Love And Death
In the early Byzantine empire, martial ability became the yardstick against which a Roman male s
worthiness was measured. The hyper masculinity of the Roman army fed popular notions about
masculinity, with the Roman soldier typifying the ideal man: he was physically strong, brave,
fearless and self disciplined. These ideas were so pervasive that they were deeply entrenched in
people s perception of manliness not only at the bottom of the socio economic pyramid but at the
top as well. Even the Roman nobility, who occupied positions of leadership in politics and the
military, had subscribed to these notions of virility, seeing the need to project themselves as real
men in the public eye. One way that this manifested itself was how, until... Show more content on

Boris, the main character in the movie, is a meek pacifist with an inclination towards
intellectual pursuits; he is short and small, with a gentle physical appearance. These traits serve
as a cause for Boris to be judged as unmanly by other characters in the movie. This issue of
perceived masculinity is tackled by Allen from the beginning: Boris narrates to the audience
how, in Russia, his short height meant that he had never attained full manhood. But it is most
pronounced in the scene where the news of Napoleon s invasion of Austria has come to Boris
family, causing men to rejoice as they finally get the opportunity to taste the glories of battle .
His family wants him to fight, to which Boris response is his lack of belief in violence and war
as a solution. This induces condescension and laughter, and he is called a coward. Some begin to
give reasons for why he should pick up arms and fight: Who shall protect his sisters? And what
about Mother Russia? This was an essential component of masculinity as perceived then:
feminizing one s nation along with the idea that men are protectors of women, for whose safety and
protection men must engage in

Persuasive Essay On Xenotransplantation
Xenotransplantation is a controversial medical procedure that has been debated by medical ethicists
for many years. Xenotransplantation or Xeno is defined as the short term transplantation of animal
tissues into a human. It has been argued that the procedure is unethical because of the use of animal
organs. However, twenty two people die each day waiting for an organ transplant, so we must act
soon to save the thousands of lives that are still waiting. Xenotransplantation is a highly debatable
procedure and offers a unique solution to the ever growing organ transplant list, making it a viable
and worthwhile procedure.
A famous example of Xenotransplantation in the making is the case of Baby Fae. Born with a
congenital heart defect, Baby Fae was the first infant that received a baboon heart through
xenotransplantation. Although the transplant itself was successful, Baby Fae later died due to
rejection of the heart. Despite her death, Baby Fae lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He claims Xenotransplantation should still be given serious thought because of its potential to
alleviate the organ shortage crisis and ultimately improve the human condition (Sharma 25).
However, Sharma also gives some insight as to why doctors should be cautious when taking Xeno
to the next step. He states that Violent immune responses have been known to occur in individuals
where an incompatible organ has been placed in a host, with death being known to occur in a
matter of hours (27). Sharma s statement raises thought of the possible risks associated with
transplantation. One of the risks is hyper acute rejection, where the recipient s immune system
quickly identifies the animal organ as a foreign entity and attacks it (27). Despite the risks being
great, people considering xenotransplantation often have no other

Themes Of Madness And The Fuutility Of Life In...
As a group, we decided to select Gary Jules song Mad World which connects to William
Shakespeare s tragedy, King Lear in terms of the themes of madness and the futility of life. In
King Lear, the aspects of loss, suffering, and injustice are experienced by the characters that
seemingly cause a hopeless end. This song will be played at the end of the play after Edgar
speaks, as it essentially summarizes the final outcome of the play. We chose this song because
the lyrics fit precisely with the end of the tragedy, and provides further insights Shakespeare
attempts to reveal to the audience. The tone is also extremely depressing and melancholy, which
effectively provides a connection with Gloucester s unfortunate demise. Effectively, the audience
should be able to attain a sense of the tragic mood at the end of the play. When the fault of an
individual s irrational decision causes unforeseen difficulties, it can cause a sense of bitterness
which can lead to a desire for redemption in aspiration of fulfilling what was lost. In the beginning
of the song, Jules discusses the element of the futility of life. Jules states that people awake Bright
and early for their daily races // Going nowhere, which suggests the idea that individuals have a
tendency to face society lacking any purpose or fulfillment. Likewise, King Learprovides insights
regarding the loss of hope in Gloucester, who exclaims that he does not want to go any further,
when Cordelia s army lost the battle

Essay Military Women Should NOT Be Allowed in Combat...
There are growing feelings in the United States that, as women are having more rights given to
them that were previously restricted, women should be given everything that is offered to men.
This is becoming very true in the military, where much sentiment is that women should be given the
opportunity to serve in combatarms positions. Women are currently allowed to serve in combat
support positions, such as militaryintelligence and air support positions, but they are not allowed to
serve in positions such as infantry, armor, or field artillery. Many believe that it is time to open
these positions to women soldiers and allow them to serve in the front lines of combat. Although
women are currently allowed to serve in combat support... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some counterparts also point out that many men may also be emotionally unstable in the rigors
of warfare, so keeping women out of combat positions for this reason is discriminating against
women. Overall, many feel that it is crippling to the idea of equality to not allow women to
serve in any position that they chose to in the military, and that women should be given the
opportunity to prove themselves able to do the job. Women should not be allowed to serve in
combat arms positions because many of them are not physically able to perform well in this
capacity. It is a known fact that, as a group, men are stronger than women. One of the primary
reasons that women are barred from combat arms positions is because their physical strength is
inferior to that of men and rightfully so. Combat arms positions requires great physical strength
and endurance to perform a multitude of physical tasks, including marching while carrying
weapons and heavy gear, hours of physical training, and lifting dead comrades during training
exercises. Of course a combat arms soldier s duties are endless, and most of them require much
strength and endurance. According to the February 1999 edition of Reader s Digest, a US Navy
study revealed that women possess half of the lifting power of men. This report also says that
women scoring in the top seven percent torso strength among women scored in the bottom seven
percent when compared to men (142). The torso is where most men in

the children to memorise word to word from books and posters and Children sat in rows at desks
at the classroom learning from a blackboard and slates. This method of education wasn t
stimulating and exciting for children. Nevertheless through her experience Montessori discovered
children want to learn, and they will do it in their own time frame and they shouldn t be forced.
The new education that she invented will make learning fun, spontaneous and challenging. She
diminished the traditional method of teaching by starting her children with writing. She felt the
traditional method of teaching was very teacher oriented and it lacks the role of children in
education. The teacher dominates the class and gives instructions to the whole class. The children
s role is to sit, listen and absorb the information from teacher s traditional academic instruction.
Teachers sets the Curriculum materials themselves at a rapid pace plus the materials are not
catered for individual needs. They are treated in a same manner; therefore teachers are not being
able to address each child s individual academic strengths and needs. Maria Montessori believed

Character Strength in One Day in the Life of Ivan...
Character Strength in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a novel about survival.
Solzhenitsyn shows us how even in seemingly atrocious circumstances each person can find
sources of strength that gives them the will to carry on. Many of the things that the prisoners think
of as their sources of strengths would mean nothing to us, but if one thinks about it, without them
we would perhaps lose the will to carry on.
Most of the prisoners have more than one source of strength, perhaps subconsciously they have
made their own fail safes. If they lost one source, they would have other more personal reasons to
carry on. The two main factors of strength that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He studies the New Testament and he uses literature to cut out the outside world. Shukhov does not
seem like a religious man, but as one goes further into the novel, one begins to see him taking a
bigger interest in religion, and more importantly, faith. Alyosha tries to show Shukhov that faith
is the strongest source of strength, and he tells Shukhov to try to see the importance of spiritual
goods rather than material goods. However, objects have a lot of importance to all of the
prisoners. Aloysha hides his New Testament to avoid it being confiscated just Shukhov hides his
bread. This shows us that the Bible is as important to Alyosha as bread is to Shukhov. At the end
of the novel Shukhov gives away a biscuit to Alyosha and expects nothing in return. This shows
that he has taken Alyosha s advice and has chosen to feel spiritual accomplishment rather than
keeping the material good. Property is another source of strength in the novel. Possessing
something that other prisoners do not have is a way of showing individuality in a place where
all the prisoners are marked as the same, ignoring what they have or have not done. Shukhov s
spoon is also very symbolic. Shukhov is forced to hide the spoon in order to keep it from being
taken by the guards. In a way this shows us how the camp tries to take away anything that gives the
prisoners a sense of individuality, or anything that gives them happiness.

Video Games And Youth Violence
Over the past few centuries, video games have become a great leisure and hobby among kids of
all ages and cultures. With the advancement of technology, video games have advanced highly in
its realism and genres. This high type of advancement brought the video game industry to a
multi billion dollar industry. However, with realism, comes negative effects as well. Ever since
the creation of violent or mature video games, there has been a constant debate on whether it
will increase violence in the player. Although, not all video games are violent, and just increase
skills in a player such as hand eye coordination. Nevertheless, there is research going on for the
link between violent video games and youth violence. The question is which event happens first
in the sequence, do violent video games aggravate a person s violent behavior, or does a person
get rid of their anger through playing violent video games? Either way, violent video games are
not beneficial to our society. The first reason that violent video games are not beneficial to our
society is that they often award players for simulating violent behaviors, and thus that enhances the
learning of them. Studies have shown that when violence is rewarded in video games, players
exhibit increase of violence compared to those who play video games where violence is punished.
Violent video games create aggressive human beings, and award players for violent behaviors. They
require active participation, repetition, and

Analysis Of Jimmy Santiago Baca Poetry As Lifesaver
In the profile article Jimmy Santiago Baca: Poetry as Lifesaver author Rob Baker, who also is a
creative writing and English teacher proves to not only the readers but also the National Council
of Teachers of English the significance of poetry. The authors main point is that poetry saved
Jimmy Santiago Baca s life, he shows us how by explaining the emotions when Baca began to read
poetry; he then went on to write poetry and even publish his own works while still in prison, after
Baca s release, he became a dedicated teacher who also works with gangmembers and teaches
workshops. The author starts by explaining Baca s background he tells the audience the difficult
circumstances that were Baca s life. All circumstances considered into his young adulthood Baca
could hardly read nor write and truly had no desire to learn; Which makes it even more spectacular
that he found poetry. His interest began at twenty one when Baca was in prison, sentenced to
possibly five to ten years. A couple years passed and a church program had extended a relationship
via a letter they sent, they targeted prisoners without families. Unbeknownst Baca learned through
steady communication with the church how to read and write. The writinggave him something to
do and in a sense a purpose. Shortly into their connection, the man from the church introduced to a
friend who was a poet. After this moment Baca s life would never be the same. I believe

Phd In Computational Engineering Statement
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE PhD in Computational Engineering??
In this mighty world many blabber about their dreams, but who identified their paths and
persistently stuck on their words are the few ones, who are known famous to the world. Being
remained unknown would be my greatest regret. My path to chase my dreams is Mechanical
Engineering, for a proud mechanical engineer can say, When we rest, the world rusts!
I have had a special interest in mechanical engineering since my childhood, as I grew up watching
my father develop complicated equipment for power plants. Hence, I opted for a mechanical
engineering course for my UG program. The concept of computational science and engineering
which uses numerical approaches to characterize, predict and simulate physical events and
engineering systems using the laws of mechanics fascinated me. To understand their advanced
methodologies, I have pursued a Master s degree in CAD/CAM from VIT .
The courses in my PG program included Finite element methods, Applied engineering mathematics,
Advanced stress analysis, Advanced strength of materials, Advanced vibration engineering,
Computational methods in heat and fluid flow etc. which gave me a greater knowledge in
mechanical and mathematical field. As a part of my Master s degree internship ... Show more

A Literary Explication Of Acquainted With The Night
A Literary Explication of Acquainted with the Night In the poem Acquainted with the Night by
Robert Frost, the speaker sets a tone of loneliness, acceptance, and depression, all throughout the
poem. In this poem the speaker surroundings are all distant, he has no family or friends. He walks
down the saddest city lane (Frost, 1928, 4) feeling helpless but has never found anything to
comfort his depression. Leaving the reader a connection and a better understanding of his life. In
his poem, Acquainted with the Night Frost uses imagery, a metaphor, and irony to illustrate how
depression and loneliness affects the speaker. In this poem the first literary element that Frost uses
is imagery. The use of imagery gives his readers a deep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of allegory is to help the reader understand the poet and why he wrote this poem. The
speaker experiences many difficult challenges and also suffering through depression most of his
life. When Frost began to explain that he has been one acquainted with the night (Frost, 1928,
1), which referred to loneliness and isolation he felt. The speaker states, I walked out in rain and
back in rain (Frost, 1928, 2). This is also where Frost uses the literacy element of allegory. He
was always in and out of depression. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet (Frost, 1928,
7) or someone attempted to communicate, but nobody was around to acknowledge him. Frost
wanted the reader to feel the darkness and loneliness that he felt while walking down the street.
The speaker felt that nobody was concerned but not to call me back or say good by (Frost, 1928,
10) and nobody cared. Proclaimed in the time was neither wrong nor right (Frost, 1928, 13),
meaning that Frost was giving up his fight against depression. What the readers may have not paid
attention to is how the depression is affecting the speaker. This is the allegory of depression
because you never know what an individual may or may not be going through. This can be very
heartbreaking and hard to understand for families and

Integrated Criteria Decision Making And Multi Criteria...
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report CS6705 Prioritized Multi Criteria
Decision Making and Multi Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784
Multi Criteria decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides
capabilities to assess complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences
of some criteria over others. In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi
Criteria Aggregation. To further understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized
measure of Multi Criteria Aggregation and its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern
application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon several criteria. Each criteria in it can be
satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world scenarios satisfying every criteria is
impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to be passed by an executive
committee, we will need only half of the committee s approval to pass it. This leads us to think
that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact, there are several
cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot be reached
without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the bill and
other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To
logically state this we can say Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B . We

  • 2. Single Methods That Enables Children To Read In Class It is the responsibility of teachers to identify and employ teaching methods that enables students to acquire ability to read in class. There is no single effective method that successfully works for all children because of various reason. I agree with the International Reading Association statement states that indeed, there is no single method or combination of different types of method that can teach all the children successfully how to read (International Reading Association, 1999). Psychologically, children are different, therefore, understand in a different manner (Richards Rodgers, 2014). For instance, some of the children are able to understand better when teachers employ example and drawings in class. Some have better listening ability while others understand better when they make notes. Based on this difference, it is difficult to establish a combination of methods or single methods that can effectively assist children how to read in class.... • 3. Women In The Iliad Unlike other ancient literature such as Epic of Gilgamesh, the Iliad gave women multidimensional characteristics. Although the Iliad revolved around various male characters and war, the propulsion of the story are the women. The women play significant role in the Iliad despite being viewed as property. However, they were not only property, they are also the highest form of honor, markers of social status, wives, war prizes, caregivers, mothers, partners and slaves. The Iliad has very few women in the story, nevertheless when we are shown a glimpse of one of the women, Homer made sure they have strong voices, character developments and symbolic impute in the story. Throughout The Iliad Helen plays critical role in the story, after all this war is for her and about her. Helen falls into the category of women who have some type of control over their lives. The war started in the name of Helen We ll fight it out for Helen and all her wealth because she is the highest form of honor. Throughout the book every time there is a scene with Helen interacting with other characters, especially Paris we get the sense that he considers her to be his equal partner. Helen often spoke her mind about the war, voiced her concerns and shared her opinion of Paris actions openly, which indicates that she is equal. Unlike Helen, Briseis is different and has little to no control over her life or faith. Briseis does not fight, voice her opinion, protest or question the treatment she receives from Achilles and other men. Nonetheless, her role in the story was significant because Achilles withdraw from battel when he was forced to give Briseis to Agamemnon. This puts Briseis in the category of women who accept the role they are given by the men without question. Patroclus obeyed his great friend s [Achilles] command. He led Briseis in all her beauty from the lodge and handed her over to the men to take away. Andromache in the other hand represent the role of a good and loving wife. • 4. Olaratumab Case Study Sarcomas are rare and considerably heterogeneous malignant tumours with a plethora of different tumour behaviours, corresponding to almost 1.5% of all adult malignancies2. For most sarcoma subtypes the mainstay of management for localized disease is complete surgical resection with or without radiation. However, despite optimal treatment about 50% of patients with high grade tumours will develop metastatic disease. The outcome for patients with advanced STS is poor with a median overall survival of approximately 18 months. Furthermore, historically the treatment options for patients with advanced disease have been limited. Olaratumab signifies a meaningful improvement of clinical efficacy (mOS gain of nearly a year and an acceptable toxicity profile, both as a monotherapy and in combination) in a disease setting, where several agents and combinations have failed418619 and based on the Phase II data has gained approval in a number of countries in combination with doxorubicin. Moreover, should the ongoing trials of the combination of olaratumab with gemcitabine/docetaxel20 (table 2) be confirmatory of its clinical efficacy and tolerability, the use of olaratumab is anticipated to be incorporated in several standard regimens and become a key innovation in the management of patients with advanced STS. Expert Opinion The efficacy results observed in the JGDG trial undoubtedly represent a promising agent for the treatment of this challenging group of diseases. However, these results should be met with an equal degree of diligent consideration and carefully interpreted. Although we have potentially taken a positive step forward, it is often that earlier Phase trial outcomes fail to replicate in randomised studies21. Besides, early Phase studies are frequently subject to selection, surveillance, and publication bias. The Cost Of College Textbooks With college textbooks on the rise, it is no surprise that college students are unable to purchase the appropriate textbooks for their courses or they are choosing alternative courses altogether. The cost of college textbooks has increased by an alarming amount of three times the rate of inflation, approximately 1,041 percent. The need for institutions of higher education to find ways to make textbooksmore affordable to their students is stronger than ever. Unfortunately, most college and universitybookstores are made for profit which inflates the cost of their textbooks and requires students to look elsewhere such as online, purchasing from previous students, or renting from the campus library. Over the last decade, the price of college textbooks has increased by 88 percent; 25 percent more than the rise in cost of tuition and fees. The College Board has estimated that the average college student had spent around 1,249 dollars for the 2015 16 school year on textbooks alone. The textbook companies and campus bookstores are reaping in the profits at the college students expense by decreasing the success rate in each course when a student is attempting the course with no material. As students are faced with these rising textbook costs, many choose not to purchase their textbooks. He asserts we must question historicism as an idea thus suggesting that to understand anything it has to be understood as a whole via its historical development (6). Thus, the totalizing theory makes society blind to how local knowledge, different races, and cultures are essential in the development of history. Developing a distinction Marx made between the two kinds of history, Chakrabarty says History 1 is defined as the history of capitalism, and History 2, is defined as the development of human history that does not fit in the metanarrative of History 1 (50). Chakrabarty says Marx totalizing theories argue, that History 2, will ultimately be subsumed by History 1 overall history of capitalism from feudal stages to the present, However Chakrabarty argues that History 2 is not separate from capital. As History 2 inherent in capital but interrupts and punctuates the logic of capitalism (64). Additionally, Marx, (Marxist) Gramsci thinks that History 1 is the real history, while Chakrabarty asserts without History two there would be no History one as history two is charged with the function of constantly interrupting the totalizing thrusts of History 1 (66). • 10. Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroquestyle is plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman Holding a Balance. The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. In addition, I will discuss if Rowley was successful to answer the key researchquestion: is ownership enough to secure employee engagement in Employee Owned Organizations (EOCs)? • 13. Lab We Use A Metal Compass Essay In lab we used a metal compass to measure and to find our two point threshold acuity. When Dario was measuring my two point sensitivity, I was blindfolded and had to judge whether or not I felt one point or two points. We tested these on multiple locations being, the pad of my index finger, pinky and thumb. We also measured our two point sensitivity on the center of my palm, back of my hand and the top and bottom of my forearm. We took these measurements by starting the metal compass at 1mm for each location. The experimenter would incrementally increase the metal compass after each trial until the participant said they felt two points. The experimenter would then verify that measurement and would repeat the measurement once again for accuracy. My results for my two point threshold sensitivity can be found on the table above. However, we found that the pads of my fingertips had the greatest number of receptive field. This didn t surprise me because it makes senseto have a greater number of receptive fields in areas that are most predominantly used for touch. Something that did surprise me though was how few of receptive fields I had on my palm, back of my hand and on the top and bottom of my forearms. • 14. Stricter Gun Control Laws Do stricter gun control laws, equal less violence and death rates in America? Gun control (or firearms regulation) is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians (Wikipedia). Some presume that this means banning guns. In actuality, gun control only acts to protect citizens through enforcing the appropriate use of firearms; it does not ban the weapon. By implementing stricter gun laws and regulations, there would be a large decrease in death rates and help prevent violence in America. For instance, the United States Constitution Second Amendment declares that everyone has the right to bear arms . The United States Constitution was written with the intention of securing all United States citizens basic rights. Its purpose is to outline the laws of this country by mandating the powers of the people and what the United States government considers acceptable. Despite this, people feel the introduction of stricter gun control laws would deny them their sense of safety by violating their right to defend themselves by the law of the Second Amendment. By allowing everyone including criminals the ability to gain ownership of a weapon, increases violence and death rates in America. Therefore, stricter gun control laws and regulations should be implemented. Furthermore, many people feel that guns are not causing the problems, people that are using these weapons are. This is partially true. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Piano Music Research Paper The Healing Power of Piano Music Music is a powerful universal language that can unite people and heal broken hearts. Research on the healing power of music in the fields of medical health and clinical psychology date back many years. Several clinical studies have shown that music therapy has an ingrained ability to cause spiritual, physical and emotional healing. Although the real science behind the power of music to heal is yet to be fully documented, many people appreciate the fact that music can soothe the soul and bring joy, something that is beneficial to the body. Happiness in itself cannot be prescribed as a cure for illnesses, but it creates a perfect ground for positive coping. Because a happy heart and mind can easily overcome an ailment by creating a perfect fighting and survival mechanism. This is all easy to decipher because feeling unhappy, sad or self absorbed can cause both mental and physical anguish. • 18. Lord Byron And William Shakespeare Since the beginning of time, human beings have found a variety of ways to illustrate their affections for one another. An intriguing form to present an individual s ideal thoughts across is the form of poetry, for it displays a deep and mysterious meaning behind the connotation of the words used. Poetry allows writers to express themselves through the act of writing with the usage of a few words. However, it is sometimes difficult for a reader to comprehend what the poem is trying to imply, but that is the beauty behind poetrywhich as a reader, one might have a different interpretations from another. In an analysis of She walks in beauty by Lord Byron and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, they both have a unique distinction on how the words are used to project affections to their respective lover. The linguistic style of the poets diverges in their depiction the physical appearance, emotive feelings, and understanding what the lover means to them. Lord Byron and William Shakespeare did an incredible job analyzing their counterpart s physical appearance that was just mind blowing to a reader. Throughout the poem She walks in beauty by Lord Byron, he uses imagery that allowed him to compare his lover with nature. He also says, clouds and storms and quicksands are the things that humans have to suffer through their everyday lives. My reaction to this quote is that he seems really depressed. • 20. Critique of Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot and... Critique of Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot and Albert Camus The Stranger Modernist fiction is incredibly dense and abstract. Writers from the twentieth century also seem to carry with them the weight of the world, and thus their fiction has been filled with realistic misery and pain. Still, these writers often add to this element with existentialist thematic structures, which construct a very unique and experimental viewpoint on a modern existence. This is what is occurring in both Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godotas well as Albert Camus The Stranger. The two a very different in format, yet both play upon the modernist idea of abandonment by God and the idea that there is an underlying sense of nothingness that guides modern life. Each focuses on the notion of free will and how it determines our lives in a world devoid of God. Together, these great works of contemporary fiction are a telling testament to the changing nature of sentiments regarding both religion and the meaning of life in a tumultuous twentieth century paradigm. The two works are written in very different styles, but each has its own unique quality that adds to the overall success of the works themselves. Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot is a play, and is thus written with stage directions and dialogue instructions, as it is meant to be both a piece of literary mastery and a wonderful stage experience. It is this traditional play structure that counterbalances the more modern thematic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Understanding the grammar of kinesics can be difficult because it requires careful longitudinal observations and are situationally dependent. To add to the issues not everyone has the same body language, however, some nonverbal behaviors are believed to originate from the limbic brain and are universal. Much of the interpretation of kinesics seems to be in some cases speculative offering a range of possibilities and other interpretations are obvious. The limbic brain is where make value judgments that influence on our behavior. It is thought that this part of the brain reacts reflexively and is difficult to disguise or eliminate. The neocortex first appeared in primates and is most developed in humans. These developed hemispheres are thought to be responsible for the development of language, abstract thought, and consciousness. The neocortex has almost limitless learning abilities. However, the reptilian, limbic, and neocortex do not operate independently. They have many connections with one another. Terms for these parts of the brain originated in the 1940s, and some neuroscientists have suggested that the concept should be abandoned. However, while the limbic system remains the predominate explanation (both in neuroscience and popular culture) of how the brain makes emotion, it is a flawed and inadequate theory of the emotional brain (LeDoux 2003). The limbic system theory has trouble explaining why damage to limbic areas like the hippocampus can result in deficits with cognition and memory. When the limbic system is activated in a purely cognitive task it is assumed that there must have been some emotional component to the task. Many researchers seem to think this explanation is based in tradition rather than facts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes Of Migration In The World Economy Of 1870-1914 Although I explained the occurrence of wage difference between Europe and the new world, having only one data of evidence is just not enough. As an economic student, further information is needed to support the argument in the above paragraph. Since we already know income in the new world would increase over the period of 1870 to 1914, I would like to investigate the cause of it, why was it increasing when mass migration started and the population in the new world (US here at an example) began to grow rapidly. Based on the numbers provided in Table 1 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), US experienced positive immigrations from all the sending countries in Europe, which confirmed that the population of the emigration received was indeed growing and led to the overall population growth. If the US population was growing, what happened to the real wage? Let me form a simple economic model with only downward sloping demand and upward sloping supply for both US and one of a European nation. At, equilibrium their intersection determines the real wage. Since we are talking about migration, let us assume we only have human movement between two nations. Machine and capitals are excluded by this analysis. By looking at TableA2 (Heitger, B. The first hour of Kingdom of Heaven is decisive for the rest of the film. I turned my face away and wished that I were imagining it all. I had tasted the bitterest essence of war, the sight of helpless comrades being slaughtered, and it filled me with disgust. (Sledge). The psychological effects, the mentality of fighting and killing another human, and the sheer decimation of human values is what makes war atrocious. War is not only fought on the battlefield though. This book also describes the feelings of a soldier fighting his own demons that war has brought on. The battle that the soldier has with himself, is almost if not more damaging than the physical battle of war. He will never forget his experience with battle, no matter how hard he tries the memories of artillery, blood, and death cannot be erased. I prayed like you to survive, but look at me now. It is over for us who are dead, but you must struggle, and will carry the memories all your life. People back home will wonder why you can t forget. (Sledge). This struggle still happens to soldiers today. Sledge s words of the struggles still captures the effects of warfare that lingers today. The other effects that war has on the men is the instability that surrounds them at every hour of the day. They are either engaged in battle having bullets and artillery fired at them, or waiting for battle just so they can be deposited back in the pressure cooker of survival. Lying in a foxhole sweating out an enemy artillery or mortar barrage or waiting to dash across open ground under machine gun or artillery fire defied any concept of time. ... • 41. Examples Of Masculinity In Love And Death In the early Byzantine empire, martial ability became the yardstick against which a Roman male s worthiness was measured. The hyper masculinity of the Roman army fed popular notions about masculinity, with the Roman soldier typifying the ideal man: he was physically strong, brave, fearless and self disciplined. These ideas were so pervasive that they were deeply entrenched in people s perception of manliness not only at the bottom of the socio economic pyramid but at the top as well. Even the Roman nobility, who occupied positions of leadership in politics and the military, had subscribed to these notions of virility, seeing the need to project themselves as real men in the public eye. Boris, the main character in the movie, is a meek pacifist with an inclination towards intellectual pursuits; he is short and small, with a gentle physical appearance. These traits serve as a cause for Boris to be judged as unmanly by other characters in the movie. This issue of perceived masculinity is tackled by Allen from the beginning: Boris narrates to the audience how, in Russia, his short height meant that he had never attained full manhood. But it is most pronounced in the scene where the news of Napoleon s invasion of Austria has come to Boris family, causing men to rejoice as they finally get the opportunity to taste the glories of battle . His family wants him to fight, to which Boris response is his lack of belief in violence and war as a solution. This induces condescension and laughter, and he is called a coward. Some begin to give reasons for why he should pick up arms and fight: Who shall protect his sisters? And what about Mother Russia? This was an essential component of masculinity as perceived then: feminizing one s nation along with the idea that men are protectors of women, for whose safety and protection men must engage in ... • 42. Persuasive Essay On Xenotransplantation Xenotransplantation is a controversial medical procedure that has been debated by medical ethicists for many years. Xenotransplantation or Xeno is defined as the short term transplantation of animal tissues into a human. It has been argued that the procedure is unethical because of the use of animal organs. However, twenty two people die each day waiting for an organ transplant, so we must act soon to save the thousands of lives that are still waiting. Xenotransplantation is a highly debatable procedure and offers a unique solution to the ever growing organ transplant list, making it a viable and worthwhile procedure. A famous example of Xenotransplantation in the making is the case of Baby Fae. Born with a congenital heart defect, Baby Fae was the first infant that received a baboon heart through xenotransplantation. Sharma s statement raises thought of the possible risks associated with transplantation. • 43. Themes Of Madness And The Fuutility Of Life In... As a group, we decided to select Gary Jules song Mad World which connects to William Shakespeare s tragedy, King Lear in terms of the themes of madness and the futility of life. In King Lear, the aspects of loss, suffering, and injustice are experienced by the characters that seemingly cause a hopeless end. This song will be played at the end of the play after Edgar speaks, as it essentially summarizes the final outcome of the play. We chose this song because the lyrics fit precisely with the end of the tragedy, and provides further insights Shakespeare attempts to reveal to the audience. The tone is also extremely depressing and melancholy, which effectively provides a connection with Gloucester s unfortunate demise. Effectively, the audience should be able to attain a sense of the tragic mood at the end of the play. When the fault of an individual s irrational decision causes unforeseen difficulties, it can cause a sense of bitterness which can lead to a desire for redemption in aspiration of fulfilling what was lost. In the beginning of the song, Jules discusses the element of the futility of life. Jules states that people awake Bright and early for their daily races // Going nowhere, which suggests the idea that individuals have a tendency to face society lacking any purpose or fulfillment. Likewise, King Learprovides insights regarding the loss of hope in Gloucester, who exclaims that he does not want to go any further, when Cordelia s army lost the battle ... There are growing feelings in the United States that, as women are having more rights given to them that were previously restricted, women should be given everything that is offered to men. This is becoming very true in the military, where much sentiment is that women should be given the opportunity to serve in combatarms positions. Women are currently allowed to serve in combat support positions, such as militaryintelligence and air support positions, but they are not allowed to serve in positions such as infantry, armor, or field artillery. Many believe that it is time to open these positions to women soldiers and allow them to serve in the front lines of combat. Although women are currently allowed to serve in combat support... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some counterparts also point out that many men may also be emotionally unstable in the rigors of warfare, so keeping women out of combat positions for this reason is discriminating against women. Overall, many feel that it is crippling to the idea of equality to not allow women to serve in any position that they chose to in the military, and that women should be given the opportunity to prove themselves able to do the job. Women should not be allowed to serve in combat arms positions because many of them are not physically able to perform well in this capacity. It is a known fact that, as a group, men are stronger than women. One of the primary reasons that women are barred from combat arms positions is because their physical strength is inferior to that of men and rightfully so. Combat arms positions requires great physical strength and endurance to perform a multitude of physical tasks, including marching while carrying weapons and heavy gear, hours of physical training, and lifting dead comrades during training exercises. Of course a combat arms soldier s duties are endless, and most of them require much strength and endurance. According to the February 1999 edition of Reader s Digest, a US Navy study revealed that women possess half of the lifting power of men. Character Strength in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a novel about survival. Solzhenitsyn shows us how even in seemingly atrocious circumstances each person can find sources of strength that gives them the will to carry on. Many of the things that the prisoners think of as their sources of strengths would mean nothing to us, but if one thinks about it, without them we would perhaps lose the will to carry on. Most of the prisoners have more than one source of strength, perhaps subconsciously they have made their own fail safes. Alyosha tries to show Shukhov that faith is the strongest source of strength, and he tells Shukhov to try to see the importance of spiritual goods rather than material goods. However, objects have a lot of importance to all of the prisoners. Aloysha hides his New Testament to avoid it being confiscated just Shukhov hides his bread. This shows us that the Bible is as important to Alyosha as bread is to Shukhov. At the end of the novel Shukhov gives away a biscuit to Alyosha and expects nothing in return. This shows that he has taken Alyosha s advice and has chosen to feel spiritual accomplishment rather than keeping the material good. Property is another source of strength in the novel. Possessing something that other prisoners do not have is a way of showing individuality in a place where all the prisoners are marked as the same, ignoring what they have or have not done. Shukhov s spoon is also very symbolic. Shukhov is forced to hide the spoon in order to keep it from being taken by the guards. With the advancement of technology, video games have advanced highly in its realism and genres. This high type of advancement brought the video game industry to a multi billion dollar industry. However, with realism, comes negative effects as well. Ever since the creation of violent or mature video games, there has been a constant debate on whether it will increase violence in the player. Although, not all video games are violent, and just increase skills in a player such as hand eye coordination. Nevertheless, there is research going on for the link between violent video games and youth violence. The question is which event happens first in the sequence, do violent video games aggravate a person s violent behavior, or does a person get rid of their anger through playing violent video games? Either way, violent video games are not beneficial to our society. The first reason that violent video games are not beneficial to our society is that they often award players for simulating violent behaviors, and thus that enhances the learning of them. Studies have shown that when violence is rewarded in video games, players exhibit increase of violence compared to those who play video games where violence is punished. Violent video games create aggressive human beings, and award players for violent behaviors. They require active participation, repetition, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report CS6705 Prioritized Multi Criteria Decision Making and Multi Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi Criteria decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over others. In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi Criteria Aggregation. To further understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi Criteria Aggregation and its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee s approval to pass it. This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact, there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To logically state this we can say Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B . We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
