Adjectival clauses
-are another class of
modifiers that you can add to
a noun or pronoun
-also considered as
dependent clauses
- have a subject and
predicate, but cannot
stand alone as a
sentence
Study the following
sentences:
1. But is it not the sound
of disarray that has
awakened him?
2. Suddenly, he
remembers something
which upsets him.
Relative pronouns such
as: which, that, who,
whose, and whom
introduce the adjectival
clause.
Other examples:
1. Mangiring whose wife
is in the kitchen has just
awakened from his nap.
2. Thinking about his
uncle whom he has not
seen for years made
Mangiring uneasy.
Relative adverbs such as:
after, before, when, or
where are also used to
introduce adjectival
clause.
Examples:
1. The house where
Mangiring and Mona live
is at the end of an alley.
2. Mangiring washed his
new pants the day before
he was to visit his Uncle.
