LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can

Tanka is an organic drinks range that helps
Australians work nutrition easily into their daily
routine. Their challenge was how to pack the
drinks with ingredients that have a medicinal
benefit but that also taste great. The recipe for
success came from naturopathy graduate and
self-professed herb-nerd, Reece Carter.
“My focus was to make the drinks nutritionally
sound. With total licence to go crazy with
my herb ingredients I incorporated elements
of herbal medicine into the Tanka drinks
wherever I could – such as dandelion
greens for liver health and turmeric for its
anti-inflammatory benefits,” he says.
“It was great to reach the point that the range
was one I could confidently recommend to
my clients.”
The connections Reece made at Endeavour
College led him to Tanka and this collaboration
is only one part of his fulfilling life.
“One of the best things about the natural
medicine industry is that the opportunities are
so varied and limitless,” he says.
Since graduating Reece has released a
herbal tea range called Sum T. He practises
naturopathy in Melbourne, is a regular blog

Eating dessert on a regular basis may no longer
be incompatible with a healthy body, thanks to
nutritional medicine student Hayley Richards.
Hayley could not wait to finish her degree to
launch her business Raw Karma. Tapping into
the growing appetite amongst Australians for
healthier sweets and her own fascination for
raw cakes, Hayley is putting raw desserts on the
map in Adelaide.
“I love being able to change the stigma
surrounding plant-based options and altering
the views of even the most carnivorous
consumers,” Hayley says.
Whilst studying part time, Hayley fostered the
foundation of her business by supplying a wide
variety of burgeoning cafes and small businesses.
Paramount to her current success is a fortnightly
stall at Holland Street’s, ‘The Market Shed’, a home
for biodynamic, sustainable and organic food
and produce. Through building the core of her
business on ethical sensibilities, conscious eating
and a savvy approach to social media, Hayley
and Raw Karma have made big moves in the past
couple of years. Upon completing her studies in
Nutritional Medicine
at Endeavour College, Hayley has bigger plans
in the works for Raw Karma in 2015.

6. Around a third of Australians report having
trouble getting to sleep, going back to sleep
or waking too early, and we all know we don’t
do well if we don’t get enough sleep. In fact,
insomnia costs the Australian economy an
estimated $220 billion annually in medical
costs and lost productivity.
To help a friend with depression sleep
better, naturopathy student Julia Green
created a completely new pillow range – the
Dream Easy range. “Conventional medicine
treatments were not helping my friend. So
I started researching herbs with sedative
powers,”she says.
Using her previous qualification and current
studies Julia created a pillow containing
lavender and hops. Within two weeks her
friend was getting a full night’s sleep.
“After the success of this prototype I made
two 100% organic pillow products which meet
Australia’s strict regulations around herbal
medicine. My order book is overflowing and
my doctor is recommending the product to
his patients.”
Julia’s next step is to make a range of
pillows to help people with a variety of
different conditions.

When Samantha Gowing left her career as a hat-
winning restaurateur to immerse herself in the
world of nutrition, it took Australia a little while to
catch on. It proved to be a risk that paid off, with
Samantha using her unique blend of nutrition,
fine dining and business expertise to help put ‘food
as medicine’ on the map.
It began when her father was diagnosed with
cancer. “I was devastated to realise that although
I knew how to cook beautiful food, I knew nothing
about nutrition and health.”
This revelation led to Samantha retraining and
enrolling in nutrition with Endeavour College
of Natural Health (then the Australian College
of Natural Medicine).
“I wanted to retrain as I could sense the wellness
sector would become a trillion dollar industry.
Eventually I was able to prove healing food could be
prepared at a really high culinary standard.”
Samantha’s culinary style has been embraced
across the globe through the programs she has
designed for luxury hotels and health retreats.
She has also spearheaded a series of mentoring
programs to support natural health professionals,
worked with major food brands to develop
products, established a globally renowned cooking
school, become an acclaimed author and worked
as a therapeutic chef and clinical nutritionist.
“Every last morsel you put in your mouth should be
doing something good for you, and should taste
unbelievable as well. Eating well doesn’t
have to be about denying yourself the good
things in life,” said Samantha.

To successfully write a blog about health
and nutrition you have to stay on top of the
latest research and new food trends. This
responsibility is even greater if you write for a
major brand like Lorna Jane.
Fiona Harrington was studying nutritional
medicine and working in her local Lorna Jane
store when she started contributing insights
on nutrition for the company’s Move Nourish
Believe blog. She was quickly immersed in the
world of marketing and social media. She now
writes full time, sharing her nourishing ideas, and
manages a team of like-minded contributors.
“More people than ever are committing to
turn their health around and are coming to big
brands like Lorna Jane for inspiration. The blog
attracts hundreds of thousands of visits each
week,” she says.
She admits at the start it was hard juggling
study with work commitments but says
Endeavour College’s supportive community
helped her through.
“I was lucky to have understanding lecturers
and peers who encouraged me to keep going.
I learnt to be very efficient with my time, which
is a skill I continue to leverage today,” Fiona
says. “If you told me I’d be here now there’s

9. The road to a stellar media career isn’t an easy
one, as Lola Berry knows. She worked three
jobs to buy a video camera to get her dream
off the ground. Armed with new equipment
she made the daily trek to local banana and
macadamia plantations and filmed herself taking
about good food. Lola quickly built a YouTube
following based on her unique message and
quirky style, and the rest is history.
She now shares her good food message across
the globe. Her third successful book The 20/20
Diet Cookbook includes 100 of her paleo-
inspired recipes, which helped her lose 20
kilograms in 20 weeks.
“In an earlier life I worked as a fashion stylist,
makeup artist and DJ and fell into an unhealthy
lifestyle. I tried a detox which left me healthy
with glowing skin. It left me hungry to learn
everything I could about nutrition and to share
that knowledge,” she says.
Her degree in nutritional medicine and her
ability to connect with people has Lola striving
forward. Her media star continues to rise and
she is now an ambassador for the not for profit
‘modern meditation’ program, The Smiling
Mind.

12. To create certified ‘organic’ tea the ingredients
are grown naturally – at every stage of the
production and all the way from plantation to
your cup. It is a mission to achieve this and a fair
trade standard but Emma Watson can testify it is
worth the work.
Emma was in her second year of naturopathy
studies when she became consumed by the idea
of making her own herbal teas. When Emma
crossed paths with her future business partner and
now husband Damien Amos, all she could talk
about (over a cup of tea of course) was her hope of
creating a tea line based on the health principles
she was learning at college. Damien enrolled in the
course and joined in on the adventure.
“Our vision is to give tea drinkers the opportunity
to improve their health and take care of any areas
of weakness, focusing more on prevention rather
than cure,” she says.
Since graduating from Endeavour College
they have built a range of 50 organic, fair trade
tea blends, secured more than 250 stockists
around the country and created a thriving online
business for their naturopathic range.
“In the past year we have launched a new range

employed more staff, moved warehouse, and the

14. Natural Fertility Prescription is one of only a
few natural health fertility approaches to be
endorsed by the conventional medicine industry.
The program boasts a high success rate,
reversing infertility in more than 80% of infertile
couples and nearly doubling the IVF success rate
of patients from 25 to 47%. It is the brainchild of
Endeavour College graduate Iva Keene.
Iva believes the key to her success lies in

research into an online training package which
leverages the most current fertility findings and
is holistic, affordable and patient-friendly.
“I have spent years developing an evidence-

and Chinese fertility insights. It is all about
providing your body with the best conditions to

Iva made a conscious effort to keep the costs of
her program down and took a bold step when
she decided to make a large amount of her
information and expertise freely available via
articles and e-newsletters.

17. Tea is delicious way to nourish your body and
introduce beneficial constituents, antioxidants,
vitamins and minerals. These health benefits
are making tea increasingly popular around
the world. Kate Dalton was in her third year of
study at Endeavour College when she found
this out for herself.
Kate started applying what she was learning
at college to nourish and heal her own body
using herbal tea. She had outstanding results.
“Studying alternative medicine opened my
eyes to how beneficial herbal medicine is and
has been for thousands of years. My friends
and family had such a positive response to
the herbal teas I had created. It gave me the
confidence to create a new range of teas
which heal,” she says.
Before she knew it Kate was wholesaling
Mayde Tea products to cafes and selling
direct to consumers online. “I didn’t know
much about business previously so it was an
extremely steep learning curve, but I actually
enjoyed the intense learning process.”
Kate offers over 12 blends carefully designed
to nourish the digestive and nervous systems,
reduce inflammation and improve overall
health and vitality. Once she graduates she
aims to prescribe Mayde Tea blends to her
