POLLUTION Pollution is an undesirable change in the chemical, physical, or biological characteristics of nature. Pollutant Substance that is present in an excessive amount in the environment asa result at human activities. Pollutants have damaging effects on health. They are also harmful to other living organisms. Types of pollution Air pollution. Water pollution. Thermal pollution. Noise pollution.
AIR POLLUTION
A B Identify the different of these two pictures.
AIR POLLUTION Air pollution occurs when pollutants including smoke, dirt, dust and poisonous gases are released into the air endengering humans” lives and other living organisms.
What is the sources of air pollution?

THE SOURCES AND EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTANS Sources Pollutants Effect on human health Factories Sulphur dioxide Nitrogen oxides Dirt dust Irritates eyes Destroy lung cell Corrodes the skin Skin discoses Bronchitis Lowers body resistance to lung disease -Smarting eyes - Cause asthma attack
THE SOURCES AND EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTANS Source Pollutants Effects Motorised Vehicles Lead Smoke and Soot Hidro carbon Carbon Monoxide (CO) Anemia Brain retardation for children Coma or death Lung cancer Breathing difficulties Conjunctivitis Cell mutation Lung cancer Delayed thinking Cause death
Effects of Air Pollution . Building and property Sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, nitrogen dioxide causes acid rain, corrode and weaken buildings. Dust, smoke, fumes dirty building. Oxides of nitrogen cause fading of colours.
Effect of Air Pollution On Agriculture Toxic gases lowers plant resistance towards diseases. Destroys plant tissue Failure to produce chlorophyll(chlorosis) Acd rain lowers soil acidity, makes soil unsuitable for farming.
Effects of air pollution on weather Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, oxides of nitrogen cause acid rain. Smoke and haze cause high temperature and unclear vision. Carbon dioxide raises Earth”s temperature, causes greenhouse-effect and polar ice melts causing floods.
WATER POLLUTION Disharging industrial wastes, agriculture waste, dosmetik wastes and sewage into rivers contribute to water pollution. Thus, causing the water to be unsafe for human’s can consumption as well as endangering the lives of aquatik organisms.

SOURCES OF WATER POLLUTION DOEMESTIC WASTE AGRICULTURAL WASTE NON BIODEGRADABLE WASTE INDUSTRIAL WASTE OIL SPILLAGE AT SEA SOURCES OF WATER POLLUTION
THE EFFECT OF WATER POLLUTION TO LIFE
DOEMESTIC WASTE DISCHARGED INTO SEWERAGE SYSTEM BREEDS HARMFUL BACTERIAL TO LIFE .
INDUSTRIAL WASTE SUCH AS MERCURY, ARSENIC AND CADMIUM ARE HARMFUL TO HUMAN HEALTH
WATER POLLUTION KILLS AQUATIC PLANT. AQUATIC ANIMALS THAT FEED ON AQUATIC PLANT WILL GRADUALLY EXTINCT.
OIL SPILLAGE AND RUBBISH FLOATING ON TOP OF WATER REDUCE OXYGEN AND SUN RAYS PENETRATION TO AQUATIC PLANT AND ANIMALS AND BADLY AFFECTED THEIR SURVIVAL.
EUTROFICATION : DISCHARGE OF AGRICULTURAL WASTE INTO THE WATER SYSTEM INCRESAES ALGAE PLANT. DECOMPOSITION OF ALGAE TAKES A LARGE AMOUNT OF OXYGEN. THE B.O.D. THEN INCREASES AND BADLY AFFECTED AQUATIC LIFE.
EXERCISE 1. Give five sources of pollution. 2. Explain the process of Eutrofication.

Effects of a greenhouse effect
Thinning of the ozone layer
Effect of thinning of the ozone layer
The Importance of Proper Management of Development Activities and the Ecosystem Among the measures are: Implementation of law Use of technology Education Preservation and conservation Biology control Efficient use of energy
