Environmental Factors Involved In Hunger
The body uses a balance of fuel (food); energy used, and body weight to determine homeostasis.
When the energy level is low, and the nutrient reservoir (adipose tissue) is triggered. When the brain
is low on glucose (glucoprivation), or the body is low on fatty acids (liporivation), it activates the
hunger cycle. However, there are other factors involved in hunger. Environmental factors (senses),
which may signal hunger even when an individual was not hungry. The five senses (smell, taste,
sight, and sound) contribute to the feelings of hunger.
A stomach growling is a signal for a food, or even thirst. The body requires a certain amount of
nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals) in order to survive. Metabolism
is the chemical course in the body to keep it alive. There are two phases in metabolism, the
absorption phase, and the fasting phase. In the absorption phase is the digestive system absorbs
nutrients, and excessive nutrients are stored in adipose tissue for future use. The fasting phase
occurs when nutrients are unavailable to the digestive system. ... Show more content on

Ghrelin sends a message to the hypothalamus that monitors body functions. Once the hunger is
appeased, there is a reduction in the production of ghrelin. Researchers believe that overwhelming
elevations of ghrelin is the cause of overeating; however, researchers are unsure why the hormone
increases. The body stores the nutrients in the stomach, and a nutrient reserve. Carlson (as cited in
Novin, VanderWeele, and Rezek, 1973) explained that the hepatic portal vein in the liver transmits
hunger signals to the brain when glucose is low. Unfortunately, the body uses up more energy than
it takes in, which is the time the hunger cycle begins

The Power Of Music, Music And Music
There are many ways to tell a story. Throughout my life I ve find this to be true. As a storyteller
myself, I always try my best to utilize the many different approaches to telling a story. Whether
through music, books, poetry, drawings, films, etc. I ve tried them all. I ve always been
fascinated by other people s stories. I will always try to retell them myself. Most of the time I
usually just talk about them. But once in awhile, I like to use what I think is the most powerful
form of storytelling, music. Music has been part of my life for a while now. Throughout middle
school and high school I was in both Band and Choir. And throughout these years I come to
understand the power that music has with storytelling. Especially in films, I ve grown up
watching films and they have impacted my life greatly. The films, Jesus Christ Super Star, La La
Land, and The Grand Budapest Hotel have a musical score that expresses a story better than any
words could ever express.
I grew up Catholic, just as my family grew up Catholic. Every year during the season of Lent,
around the time of Holy Week, my family and I would honor Jesus s final days with many
traditions. Tradition such as attending mass, receiving palms, having our feet washed and of course
watching the 1974 classic Jesus Christ Superstar. Now the Roman Catholic Church dosen t
considered Jesus Christ Superstar a tradition, but I do. My family and I will all get together and
eat some popcorn and drink some pop.

Mrs. Dalloway By Virginia Woolf
In the book Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, it is evident that the main character, Clarissa
Dalloway, double persona is Septimus Smith. While Clarissa proves to be more rational, Septimus
is irrational. Clarissa shows optimism with her life and finding her true identity while Septimus is
someone who experiencing insanity and madness. Although she never meets him and their lives
are vastly different, the two characters actually mirror each other. Clarissa and Septimus share
many characteristics and think in similar manners. Septimus serves as a contrast between the
veteran working class and upper class. Throughout the book, Septimus thoughts parallel Clarissa s
and can be seen as an echo in some ways. This illustrates how the line between sanity and insanity
can become blurred. Both characters have similar experiences, but how they go about interpreting
them and finding deeper meaning about it differ because of their different personalities and
experiences. Clarissa and Septimus heavily think about their past memories and events. The
memories cause them both to contemplate how the experiences changed and impacted their life.
Clarissa s memories of her past thinking about her friends make her want to think deeply about
the past and get swept up in the feelings with her thoughts. When Clarissa is in St. James Park,
she feels the wind and freeness associated with it as she recalls memories of Peter Walsh, her
former lover. Walking she reminisces: If he were with me now what

association among money supply, current account, exchange rate, and industrial production, for this
purpose we have used (Johansen, 1988) co integration technique to analyze the long run relationship

Moreover, results emphasize the rising significance of China for its adjacent economies (Tomasz J.

general equilibrium approach of expectation they examined current account sensitivity to monetary

The Human Heart
The human heart is slightly bigger than the size of ones fist. It is situated at a very safe place
which is between the cage bones, i.e., in the center of the chest. Usually it is slightly on the left
side of the chest but in rare cases, it can be found on the right side. Heart is responsible for the
blood flow to every single part of the body by constant contraction and relaxation of cardiac
muscles. This is the reason why we hear rhythmic beats all the time. Heartpumps the pure blood to
the different parts of the body and then takes the deoxygenated blood from all the parts to the
lungs for oxygenation. Normally in a minute the heart beats 72 times. Well, let s check out heart

This maintains a proper one directional blood flow through out the process. Bicuspid valve is
present between the left atrium and left ventricle whereas tricuspid valve is present between the
right atrium and right ventricle. Pulmonary valve behaves as a gate which stops the back flow of
blood from right ventricle to the pulmonary artery which takes the deoxygenated blood to the
lungs for purification. Lastly the aortic valve, this valve plays an important role in stopping the
back flow of the blood from left ventricle to the aorta. Once the blood is transferred to the aorta it
supplies the oxygenated blood to different parts of the body.
Blood Vessels
Blood vessels are the blood carriers in a human body. These play a very vital role in the supply
of blood to various parts of the body. Blood vessels can be of two types, veins and arteries. All
the veins (except pulmonary vein) are involved in carrying the deoxygenated blood from various
parts of the body to the heart whereas all the arteries (except pulmonary artery) are involved in
supplying oxygenated blood from the heart to different parts of the body.
Functioning of the Heart
After getting familiar with the part let s check out the functions of the heart. Well, as we all know
we need oxygen to survive, but have you ever thought how this oxygen is supplied to different
parts of the body? This work is done with the help of heart. Heart plays a very important role in the

Comparing Dionysius And Socrates
Ethics are what separates civilized men from savages, driving their decisions, and determining
their destiny. The actions of both Dionysius and Socrates, in both Bacchae and Phaedrus
respectively, are driven by their personal ethics and beliefs in justice. Bacchae, a Greek tragedy
written by Euripides, tells the story of the Greek God Dionysus s arrival to ancient city of Thebes,
and the city s reaction towards him and his strange religion. Phaedrus on the other hand is a
dialogue, written by Plato, about a series of arguments between Socratesand Phaedrus starting with
what makes a good speech, journeying into the fundamental understanding of the universe itself.

Dionysius here is essentially listing the injustices he as suffered by the city of Thebes,
promising to make undo any harm he causes after being accepted, warns that his rejection will
result in his wrath, and finally disguises himself as preacher to find willing followers. Dionysius
views on justice are what separates him from the other gods, in that he acknowledges the harm
his actions will bring to Thebes, promising to undo all the damage upon their acceptance of him,
while most of the other gods would leave after satisfying their quest for vengeance. The most
important line in this quote is the last sentence I ve transformed myself, assumed a mortal shape,
altered my looks, so I resemble any human being (70 73) , in that he wants people to choose to
follow him out of their own free will, rather than forcing or scaring the people into compliance.
So, Dionysius starts out with good intentions, he wants to gain willing followers into his religion,
achieve justice for the defamation of his mother, and be worshiped by other, but is forced to make

Steroid Usage
Why do so many people use steroids when there are so many health risks and side effects? Do
people take steroids because they are not aware of all the risks? Not likely, steroids have been
around since the 1930 s when Nazi scientists tried to invent drugs that would make German
armies more powerful (Banks, Substance Abuse in Sport: The Realities, pg. 13 21). Though
steroids were considered harmful and made illegal in 1991 (Berlow, Sports Ethics). Some side
affects of steroids are baldness, high blood pressure, lowered sex drive, acne, nosebleeds, liver

long as I finished like a man. This football player was so dedicated to being the best that he could
be. He did not even care if he lost his own life. In recent years sports have become a huge
industry. Just this year Alex Rodreguez signed a ten year two hundred and fifty million dollar
contract with the Texas Rangers. This is the biggest contract in sports history. A gold medal in the
Olympics can mean millions of dollars to athletes, coaches, managers, sponsors, and even
countries. It is no wonder more and more people are striving to be the best, and will do whatever it
takes to get there. When it comes to making money and a lot of it people will do just about anything.
As for physical appearance almost everyone is self conscience about how they look. For example,

body he hates, longing to look like the bodybuilders he admires. Steroids are enormously popular

The Theory And Practice Of Orwell s Libertarian Socialism
The Theory and Practice of Orwell s Libertarian Socialism First published in 1949, Orwell
certainly believed that the novel would have some higher purpose in the political sphere, and it
did. But perhaps it wasn t the purpose that was truly intended? Nearly seventy years after its first
appearance, 1984 can be found on many high school, college and political group reading lists.
Coining terms such as Big Brother, or thoughtcrime, the novel created an entirely new type of
dystopian society defined by many as Orwellian. But with close reading one can see that George
Orwell wrote 1984 for a very specific purpose. In 1984 Orwell writes about the dangers of
deviating from a true socialist society. In order to completely understand 1984, one must first
understand the history surrounding the novel. Written from 1947 to December 1948, 1984 first
hit shelves in June of 1949. The Second World War, which ravaged England, Europe, and much of
the world, ended a mere four years prior. Along with the rest of Europe, London was still
rebuilding from the constant bombings, and still mourning the incredible loss of life. But there was
a growing threat that could not be ignored. The Soviet Union, in an effort to prevent future attacks,
occupied much of Eastern Europe (known as the Eastern Bloc), including Eastern Germany, and
the eastern portion of Berlin. As the year 1948 came and went, the people of Europe saw the Berlin
Blockade, and the monumental airlift to keep West Berlin

Counselor Interview What practice settings did you considered when you chose the counselor to

of a student academically and socially. What other professionals are employed in this setting and
what are their roles at the agency? As we continued the interview, she talked about their services
that they provide including academic, career, and personal counseling. Besides counselors, there
are two par time psychologists, who provide assessment for students. How does the professional

do interact on regular basis with the psychologists, as they have a common goal for its students,
they work collaboratively. Their philosophy of counseling is that all students are unique

In The Mood For Love Essay
What is the ultimate form of a tragic love? For Wong, it is neither denial nor acceptance, but an
eternal state of longing and waiting. Among Wong Kar Wei s internationally acclaimed
productions, Days of Being Wilde (1990), In the Mood for Love (2000), and 2046 (2004) are
loosely counted as a trilogy of love. In the end chapter of his trilogy 2046, Wong continues to focus
on Chou Mu Yun, a sentimental yet callous writer and womanizer. Revolving around the affairs of
Chou, 2046 presents to its audience three pathways that love could possibly offer: to unite in
happiness, to move on after the denial from the loved one, and to linger upon the unanswered love
in perpetuity. Chou is undoubtedly chosen to be the bearer of the last pathway. As the... Show more

Mazierska discusses the overarching theme trapped in presence in Wong Kar Wei s movie as
postmodern implication that correlates to Wong s addicted uses of montage and symbolism in
narration and editing (p8, Mazierska). As he considers, Wong s works share the similarity with
several postmodern authors. The notion of alternative temporalities is central to the narrative
organization to postmodern novels, such as those of Italo Calvino and Alain Robber Grillet.
(p17, Mazierska and Rascaroli). James Udden also argues in the Stubborn Persistence of Local In
Wong Kar wai that Wong s popularity is credited to his typically post modern philosophy of
denying his Hong Kong identity and embracing it at the same time (finnayson, p143). In some
more relevant cases, Flannery Wilson discusses Wong s overlapping narration between presence
and future in 2046 as the manifestation of Deleuze s theory of crystal of time, vaguely alluding to
the notion that virtual and the real intermingles in 2046 (p164, Finnayson). Brunette also postulates
that the sense of resisting the advancement of time correlates to what the Fredric Jameson terms as
longing for the present. (Teo, p358) Although it is evident that every production of Wong concerns
the subject of love, few theorists have been found so far who posit Wong s interpretation of love in
a post modernistic framework. The one who got closest to this

George Orwell s The Decline Of American Press Freedom
When George Orwell writes his dystopian novel 1984 in 1949, he is extremely disturbed with the
state of the world after witnessing the methods of the Soviet Union and other fascist regimes
during World War Two. During this period, the Soviet Union famously burned books and
controlled all media outlets in an attempt to assert dominance over the people of the USSR. In
response to his emotional disquiet over these issues, Orwell writes a warning to the world of what
he fears would come to pass should totalitarian governments continue to grow in power. In 1984 ,
Orwell writes of the governmentdestroying all media that conflicts with the current political
ideology, thought police arresting anybody who shows even the slightest signs of thinking... Show

It is very important to be aware that the media is capable of controlling the flow of information that
citizens receive. Furthermore, much of the content suppressed in this country is for fear of
retribution from others. When governments and other institutions suppress information, citizens are
not able to address matters concerning their country, as well as around the globe. In The Decline of
American Press Freedom by Anne Applebaum, Applebaum explains a recent controversy with Yale
University and the publishing of a contentious comic in a scholarly report on the global
consequences of political comics. The comics in question were satirical in nature and displayed the
Islamic prophet Muhammad in an offensive manner. In an aniconic religion where visual depiction
of the prophet is inherently blasphemous, the Islamic response to these comics were violent. When
an analysis of the comics and the cultural backlash was written, instead of publishing it, Yale
University swept it under the rug for fear of offending Islamic extremists. Applebaum argues that
if Yale University Press refuses to publish [the comics], then that makes it much harder for
anybody else to treat the cartoon controversy as a legitimate matter for scholarly and political
debate (Applebaum 640). By not allowing the publishing of this analysis, Yale University is
censoring what the American populace have access to in terms of global controversy. The issue
becomes trivialized because institutions fear retribution from extremist groups. Without these
scholarly points of reference of this issue and others, it is difficult to have a serious conversations
about the ramifications of political and religious satire. This leads to people remaining uneducated
and ignorant of these serious issues, and liable to repeat these same actions that so sorely offended

HBR Regal Carnation Hotel, Guam
The case revolves around the Regal Carnation Hotel, located in Guam. Partly narrated by Steve
McKenzie, he described his experience with the Regal Carnation Hotel. In his description of the
situation, the me too approach to hotel management led to poor service, false representation, and a
pricing plan that does not match the value of the hotel. The hotel industry in Guam has important
statistical information that will lead to an effective analysis.
Over a period of years, Guam has experienced a boost to its tourism industry. The year 1967 was
the beginning of that upward trend. that includes support from the United States. However, the
decline of the Japanese economy in the 1900 s and onward severely damaged the economy of
Guam. How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. McKenzie was immediately uncomfortable with the policy of the hotel. In his line of business,
he knew that a successful company would not follow this procedure, when booking a customer s
reservation.
Our second question was Did the Regal Carnation always misrepresent itself on the website and was
this intentional. Looking at the case, it states that the tourism industry was in its maturity state by
2007. During this time hotels were running elaborate campaigns to make their hotels and business
stand out. But with the declining pool of tourists, there was less profit to be made and as a result
less money to reinvest into the hotel. It is no surprise then; that given time and diminished
incentive to reinvest, that the website told a different story than reality. If the McKenzie s would
have researched a little more, followed up on their gut intuitions about the Regal Carnation, and
considered how it fits in with Guam s overall economy and history perhaps they would have
realized the fallacy of deciding upon value based solely on a website.
It is commonly believed that each product in business goes through what is called a product life
cycle. It can typically be divided into four distinctive categories. Simply put, Introduction, Growth,
Maturity and Decline are the four names that describe the different sections. Guam s tourism
industry is currently going through the Decline stage of the product life cycle.

The natural health products industry is a massive part of the New Zealand economy, and brings a
lot of income to the country. With New Zealand natural health products continuing to gain
popularity overseas, particularly in Australia, North America and Asia as well as right here in our
own country, the industry is continuing to grow and grow (Natural Products New Zealand, 2016). In
this report I will cover a number of topics regarding the natural health products industry in New
Zealand including the sales history of the industry, the major competitors in the industry,
environmental influences, and then identify possible target markets for EnzyHealth, a hypothetical
company which operates in the natural health industry in New Zealand. There are many different
opinions on what exactly the Natural Health Products Industry actually includes. For the purpose
of this report I have taken the basis of the definition from the Natural Health and Supplementary
Products Bill which was developed in New Zealand in 2011 and has since been updated. Natural
health and supplementary product means any product that is [...] or appears to be, manufactured for
human use and for the primary purpose of bringing about a health benefit to the person who uses
the product. (Natural Health and Supplementary Products Bill 2011, No. 324 2)

The End Of The Dark Passage Essay
At the end of the dark passage was a room identical to the secret alcove in his court. For all of
Jingyan s trepidation and anticipation, nothing happened. He kept a hand on the wall and
followed the sound of Su Zhe s footfall through the unobstructed passage until dimming sunlight

Jingyan followed Su Zhe through a grassy meadow and into a forest. Sometime in the middle of

Similarities Between The Minister s Black Veil And Sinners...
There are a few similarities between The Minister s Black Veil and Sinners in the Hand of an
Angry God. Sinners in the Hand of Angry God is written by Jonathan Edwards it is a six hour
speech about how sinners should come to God. The Minister s Black Veil is written by Nathaniel
Hawthorne a short story about how everyone sins and hides behind a black veil. He has changed
himself into something awful, only by hiding his face .
The Minister Black Veil is the most effective story. Although Jonathan Edwards gave a six hour
speech MBV is the most effective because he taught a lesson without saying a word. When man

The Minister in MBV is different because he gets his message across in a calm and mysterious way

The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay
The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first
described by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling
prices of an object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting
higher prices than a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a
much lower maximum price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon
the perspective of the person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to
many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the
perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment
effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age.
Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s
(1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and
went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky
and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and
gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of
losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk
averse. This means that when there are certain options of

What Is Joan Of Arc Essay
Joan of Arc (born Jeanette d Arc) was a saint and the national heroine of France in the early 1400
s Joan was born on January 6th 1412, during the Hundred Year War. She became a brilliant war
leader and singlehandedly led a disheartened French nation against British rule. She claimed she
heard voices and that these voices were of St. Michael, St Catherine and St. Margret, Joan
believed that the voices delivered messages from God. This eventually become her downfall
which led to her being burned at the stake and accused of being a witch. Herein then lies the
conundrum, was she killed because the people believed that she was a witch or was the reason
more because she was fast becoming a threat to male rule? Before Joan was born the English
wanted a duel monarchy over both France and England this led to the Hundred Years War which
hugely affected Joan s life when Joan was born this was almost a reality. Joan and her parents
(Jaques D Arc and Isabelle De Vouthon) lived comfortably as peasants in the French village of
DomrГ©my and Joan spent her childhood learning housekeeping skills, attending her father s
cattle and sheep and Catholicism. At the age of 12 Joan started to hear voices that she believed

The Holocaust and The Final Solution Essay

It was all started by a man named Adolf Hitler. Native to Austria, he fought for Germany in World
War One. After germany surrendered, Hitler was furious. He wanted Germany to rise to what his
vision of greatness was. After a failed attempt to overthrow the government, he got into politics. A

Eyewitness Testimony And Its Effect On The Credibility Of...
Eyewitness testimony is a hot button issue in not only the criminal justice field but also the
psychology field as well. It continues to be argued that this type of evidence is far too unreliable
for the court room and can ultimately end up punishing the wrong person for a crime they did not
commit. The influence of an eyewitness testimonycannot be denied as research has showed that,
adding a single prosecution eyewitness to a murder trial summary increased the percentage of
mock jurors guilty verdicts from 18 to 72 (Leippe, Manion, Romanczyk, p. 182, 1992). In the
article discussed here, researchers will look into various age groups to see if age has an effect on
the credibility of eyewitness testimonies while attempting to discern what certain cues build upon
such credibility.
Despite such criticism the effect of an eyewitness testimony is still obviously powerful which
makes this issue that much more controversial. That vast increase previously mentioned was
based off of a simple statement rather than an actual witness being present, which shows that a
testimony does not need to be confirmed visually or audibly to be trusted. Although, the witness
involved in said mock trial was an adult, as adult memory is trusted to be more accurate than that
of a child s. Children have been said to be too suggestible and their memories too inferior to be
fully trusted (Leippe et al., p. 182, 1992). To test this out researchers in the article, Eyewitness

Modernization And Development Towards Democracy
This research paper uncovers the study of modernization and how it correlates to political
development towards democracy. First, it examines the development and origins of the
modernization theory that encompass a number of explanations that connect economic, social and
cultural changes with shifts in political systems. Modernization puts forth the idea that economic
development will lead to cultural and social changes that transform the political behavior of a
country s citizens that can ultimately lead to democratic governments. Subsequently, the paper
moves to the empirical evidence supporting the modernization theory and critiquing the theory s
broader applicability. Some critics would suggest that certain types of economic development could
actually destabilize society, rather than progressing the cultural and social components that provide
the starting point for democratic societies. Meanwhile, others have advocated that wealth does not
explain the emergence of democracy, and that the likelihood that a country remains democratic is
higher in richer countries. Finally, it will look into future avenues in research on the correlation
between political development and modernization. Modernization theory refers to a set of
explanations that link economic development and social changes with the type of political regime
that emerges. As countries economically modernize, they shift from agricultural to industrial
societies. Industrialization results in

Observation Reflection
A few weeks ago our group sat in the Starbucks located on campus for 20 minutes observing
people who sat, stood and walked around. In this time we had four different sets of eyes looking
around and taking notes. The following is a summary of our observations to answer the required
questions. A difficulty we may have encountered if we would have stayed in the same location
longer is people would have noticed. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl
did notice there was something odd about our table and began to stare. That would have made it
awkward and caused a distraction of what our goal if more people noticed us. Another difficulty
would be our notes would have been repetitive and it would have been hard focusing. As observers,
constantly seeing the same thing, it would just be too much for us.
During the observation period we conducted as a group, we felt that it would be very easy since
we naturally observe people in our free time. Though through time we felt very creepy and
somewhat stupid just sitting around staring at people and writing notes. Nevertheless, an overall
feeling was that it was interesting sitting. We observed our fellow classmates, Rutgers students and
faculty staff who passed by.

confident since we had four different perspectives observing the same location, front, back and

Themes Of Letters To Kappus
In Letters to a Young Poet, Rilke writes letters to Kappus giving him advice and helping him figure
out solutions to deal with his problems. Themes such as solitude, childhood, criticism, and love tied
in into his life lessons trying to give Kappus a different perspective. Rilke taught Kappus to enjoy
solitude, maintain childhoodinnocence, ignore people s opinions, and to value the true meaning
of love. Not only does Rilke help and inspire Kappus but his readers as well. These letters allow
readers to form a new perspective on life due to Rilke s wisdom and knowledgeability. What is
necessary, after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no
one for hours that is what you must be able to attain, (Rilke 41). Rilke wanted Kappus to realize
that there is no reason to fear solitude. Solitude is about enjoying time spent alone, allowing people
to explore what s within. People tend to present themselves in a different manner when around
others but solitude allows one to be themselves. Not taking the time to get to know what is within
and constantly being surrounded by people, may have a negative effect on a person. Someone who
doesn t take the time to get to know themselves will allow others to shape them into the person
they feel they re expected to become. In reality, no one can tell someone who they should be,
people can only figure that out for themselves. With solitude no one can criticise one s behavior or

Competitive Bass Fishing
How did Bass fishing become a sport?
Fishing has always been a way to collect food, but did you know how it became a competitive
sport? It all started with a game of basketball. I am sure you are thinking to yourself; a game of
basketball is how fishing tournaments came about?
It all started with a man by the name of Ray Scott in 1968. While watching a basketball game he
thought of the idea of competitive Bass fishing. He than began to brainstorm ideas and write down
the rules of fishing tournaments. Later that year, he held the first All American Bass Tournament.
After that tournament, competitive Bass fishing took off like a 10 pound Bass taking away your

Essay Expanding Marriage to Same-Sex Couples
Marriage, the comprehensive and exclusive union of two people s bodies and minds, is a special
and important relationship. As Professor Macedo explained, marriage is very public: Once people
know you are married, all sorts of presumptions follow. People know that married spouses have
made a special extensive commitment to one another, typically involving sexual fidelity, sharing a
household, and caring for one another. The label of marriagemakes it known to others that two
people are engaged in a long term, exclusive relationship and the commitment of marriage become

On the other side of the spectrum, liberal critics have even argued for the complete elimination
of marriage in favor of civil unions for all and for the expansion of marriage to include
polygamy. Thaler and Sunsteins argued, the only legal status states would confer on couples
would be a civil union, which would be a domestic partnership agreement between two people.
These two scholars want marriage to be a private matter, so they want to get the State complete
out of the marriage business in favor of letting religious or private organizations distribute the
distinction of marriage. Moreover, Andrew March of Yale University objected to the standard
complaints against polygamy and asserted that the State should additionally recognize plural
marriages, using the same arguments as proponents of same sex marriages. In order to show
why the expansion of marriage to include same sex couples while restricting marriage to
monogamy is in the best interest of society, it is imperative to address the conjugal view and
show how this view of marriage is erroneous and how the government cannot endorse recognition
of plural marriage as it adversely effects civil society. Next, I will show why the expansion of
marriage to same sex couples is the best

more efficient learning. If a classroom does not function at its best, the teacher also runs the risk of
faster burnout from the profession. Continual management of problematic behaviors may lead to

The authors propose that an effective classroom model includes SEC social and emotional

Never Event
On June 3, 2015, the staff in the cardiovascular surgical suite (CVOR) allowed a patient to fall to
the floor when transferring the patient from the operating table to the patient bed, following
coronary artery bypass surgery. Regrettably, the patient endured facial fractures, however,
fortunately there was no harm to the surgical procedure on the coronary arteries, head, lungs,
drains, chest tubes or anywhere else. Present in the surgical suite for the period of the incident
included two certified nurse anesthetists, two scrub technicians, one registered nurse, and one
physician s assistant. Following the closure of the surgical site, the appropriate dressings were
applied, the cardiothoracic surgeon left the surgical theater, and the patient was transferred to the

Indentured Servants In The Chesapeake Research Paper
In the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography the article Indentured Servitude in the
Chesapeake is taken from the court records of Virginia that describe what happened to indentured
servants that ran away. This article also suggests historical events of the social order in the
seventeenth century. Involved in the escape were Andrew Noxe, Richard Hill, Richard Cookeson,
John Williams, Christopher Miller, Peter Milcocke, and Emanuel. The indentured servants escaped
their Master, Capt. William Pierce, on July 8, 1640. The leader, Emanuel took the skiff from his

William Pierce made a complaint to the board of Virginia that six of his servants and a negro of
Mr. Reginald s has plotted to run away north, where there is no slavery, to the Dutch plantation.
Indentured servants stopped coming to the colonies because the salaries were starting to raise in
Europe, which could have been another reason why they were trying to escape. Indentured
servants don t work their whole lives like black slaves do, indentured servants were also cheaper
because you were sort of renting them out but, you owned black slaves. Virginia has an elected
assembly, a court system and judges, which is a reason the servants didn t get away with their
actions and received punishments, some more severe than others. Most punishments included 30

Differences Of Hinduism And Hinduism
Hinduism is one big family of beliefs that unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a
single divine reality. Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to
defend it and spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. At first many of its teachings and
scriptures were passed down orally but eventually, were written down for all to cherish. In
Christianity we find that Jesus is the originator of this religion, and is purely a missionary religion.
Traveling and branching out to as many people as possible to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Also, in similar sense there are many denominations within the religion that have different teachings
but all usually lead to the same result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself.
Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship
depends on one s own personality or age. The most common deities prayed to would be the three in
the Trimurti. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and represent the forces of creation, preservation, and
destruction. Brahma is the god of creation and often depicted as having four faces looking in all
directions and eight arms holding symbols of power. Vishnu is the god of preserving the universe
and is often depicted as having four arms holding symbols of power and usually wears a tall
crown. Shiva is the god of destruction but also recreation. Shiva could be the most misunderstood
god in Hinduism because most people

suggestion of their common father in law Alexander Norris. After 175 years, P G is one of the
consumer goods company in the world. It features in the Fortune 500 list and recorded sales of
$82.6 billion dollars in 2011.
The year 1837 was quite a difficult time to start any business. Although Cincinnati was a busy
market place, the United States of America was gripped by financial panic. Scores and scores of

. . roctor Gamble is known to expand rapidly. The summary of the mergers acquisition by P G is
given in Table 1. As you can see, though P G is acquiring an average of 2 to 3 firms in the recent
past, it is divesting its stakes at a faster rate. This implies that P G wants to expand in areas of
strength focus its full concentration there and at the same time reduce its stake in all the ventures
that it deems unprofitable.
One of the major acquisitions by P G in the last 10 years was the acquisition of the German Hair
Company Wella AG for $6.27 billion. Wella AG was the market leader in hair care products,
with revenues exceeding $3.6 billion in 2002. Through this deal, P G entered the salon market.
They also entered the dental market in the same year by acquiring Glide, a dental floss brand
from W.L. Gore Associates, Inc. P G decided to exit the food market gradually. The first step was
by selling its Sunny Delight and Punica drinks in April 2004 to J.W. Childs Associates LP.
P G made a major foray into the pharmaceutical sector with the acquisition of the Spanish firm
Laboratorios Vita for € 150 million. It followed this with the acquisition of Asacol, another
pharmaceutical firm.
After Wella AG, P G made another major acquisition Gillette Co. This was in January 2005 and
the deal was for $57 billion, the largest acquisition made by P G till date. Through this deal, P G
acquired the brands Gillette, Braun, Right Guard and Duracell. P G acquired

Article Report On The Law And Safety Codes Essay
Article Summary
I selected the article Duty to Warn and Protect: Not in Texas for review, as it applies to the state
in which I reside. The article cites Texas Health and Safety Codes, based on a 1999 Texas
Supreme Court ruling that states counselors do not have a duty to warn or protect. Having a duty
to warn and protect is defined as protecting clients or others from perceived harm (Jackson Cherry
Erford, 2014). An example would be that a client tells their counselor in a confidential session that
he is considering stabbing his ex girlfriend. The duty to warn would mean the counselor should
notify authorities and the ex girlfriend thus breaking confidentiality. The duty to protect would be
to admit client to a facility for the client to be assessed for a propensity for violence towards the
ex girlfriend. This became important after a 1969 incident where a counselor, had a client
expressed harm towards a girl and the counselor contacted the authorities, yet never contacted the
girl, who was subsequently killed by the client a few months later, known as the Tarasoff v.
Regents of the University of California case (Jackson Cherry Erford, 2014).
The article Duty to Warn and Protect: Not in Texascites the 1999 Texas Supreme court decision in
the case Thapar v. Zezulka; which stated that counselors do not have a duty to warn and protect
because it breaks client/counselor confidentiality (Barbee, Combs, Ekleberry, Villalobos, 2007). As
a result of the 1999 ruling the

Questions on the Rescue of the Chilean Miners
Over 30 Workers Trapped Introduction On August 5, 2010 the 121 year old San Jose copper and
gold mine collapsed in Southern Chile (trapping 33 miners beneath the surface). During the ordeal,
there was a tremendous public relations effort behind the scenes that was occurring. To fully
understand what took place requires looking at: the considerations for the different kinds of
stakeholders, the actions that must be taken before / after the message is delivered and creating
two sample communications for constituents. Together, these elements will provide the greatest
insights as to how information is released by taking the various viewpoints into account. (Lusted,
2012) What are some considerations to remember given the different roles and people in the
audience? During the process of communicating with everyone is when there will be different
roles for stakeholders. The way that this will occur is to take into account a number of factors to
include: the sensitivity of the message, what kinds of information are being conveyed and the tone.
The combination of these elements will help to inform the audience and provide a way of offering
a form of hope. (Lusted, 2012) (Coombs, 2012, pp. 243 281) What would be the potential needs of
the families of the miners in receiving a message about this incident? The needs of the families are
to receive pertinent information about their loved ones. This means that the company must take
into account: the sensitivity of the message,

c) Formal Analysis
First Movement
Although a typical first movement form has features that are very close to a sonata form, the
analysis shown in Appendix traces through the keys and theme areas with respect to the necessary
T1, S1 etc terminology that invokes the 1st movement form which is an extended version of a da
capo aria or a rounded binary form. However, presented below, is a rough guideline for seeing
which measures would correspond to a sonata form outline:
T1 S1 T2: 1 111 227
Exposition
S2: 249
Development
(288 308 as re transition)
T3 S3 T4 (first section up to the cadence): 309 318 403
Recapitulation
(Cadenza)
T4: 417
Coda
Theme wise, the first movement is mostly bases itself on the opposition of two themes, one
military in character (denoted hereafter by a and its variants a1, a2 a3 etc)
and another lyrical theme, (denoted hereafter by b). It is clear when one looks at the outline of the
themes with respect to their placement, theme a is transformed into 8 different versions throughout
the composition s first movement, and an additional type, that we will call (a) which utilizes C G
C G C timpani like motive. This one, namely (a) and a derivative called a6 will play primary roles
in identifying and linking structurally important keys and harmonic motions related to changes into
different subsections (eg. Timpani theme appears from 288 295 into T3/S3 on minor v,

Essay On Parker Space Challenger
The parker space probe is set to be launched in the window of 31 July and 19 August. Using
Venus gravity, the probe will orbit around the Sun with decreasing time period. After seven flybys
around Venus, this probe will achieve a speed of about 200 km/s and a distance of 8.5 solar radius
from the surface.[1] The main objective of the mission is to expand our understanding of solar
corona and solar winds which directly influences the space weather surrounding the Earth. This
space weather affects the life and society on Earth and so it is important to understand these solar
winds.

This upper atmosphere and the magnetic field form a coupled system with the Sun and the
geospace. This coupled system and their interaction with each other is studied under the Sun Earth
Connection program.[4]
The Sun is a hot ball of gas made of hydrogen. Most of its gas is in the fourth state of matter
known as plasma, where the gas heats up to the point where atoms break up into plasma. The
Sun s plasma is so hot that it escapes the Sun s gravitational field. This escape of plasma from the
Sun is also known as Coronal Mass Ejection or CME. The escaped plasma forms the solar wind
which blows out of the Sun and travels across the solar system with a speed of 500 Km/s,
interacting with the planets magnetic field and atmosphere. These interactions result in the change
of the planets, or in our case, the Earth s magnetic field from the dipole magnetic field to a plasma
swept magnetosphere. The interactions also produce current to flow through the Earth s upper
atmosphere and the magnetosphere causing neon light like effect resulting in the formation of
aurora.[5]The Sun s atmosphere also results in other effects such as prominences and solar flare.
The solar flares eject high energy particles and gases which are about 13 million oC. These solar
flares also cause strong space weather changes by producing a stream of highly energetic particles
which impacts Earths magnetosphere.[6] Thus, these solar winds and solar flares are an

Kennewick Man and the Native American Graves Protection...
Kennewick Man is one of the most complete ancient skeletons found to date. The discovery
initiated scholarly and public debate of the legal and ethical implications of anthropological study
of Native American human remains. The Kennewick Man controversy has called into question the
Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) s ability to balance tribal,
museum, and archaeological interest in ancient human remains. Kennewick Man was found on
July 28, 1996 below Lake Wallula, a section of the Columbia River, in Washington. As the owners
of the land, the US Army Corps of Engineers (COE) had initial control of the remains. In early
inspections Kennewick man was thought to be an early European settler because of the... Show

The repatriation process set up by NAGPRRA requires federal agencies and museums to identify
items in their possession that are subject to the law and make inventories and summaries of them,
they then must consult with lineal descendants and Indian tribes regarding the identification and
cultural affiliation of the items, finally the agencies and museums must send notices to the
appropriate group describing the lineal descendancy or culture affiliation and stating that the item
may be repatriated. The law provides federal grants to assist with the process of documentation and
repatriation of the items. NAGPRA also sets up a review committee to monitor and resolve disputes
consisting of three Native American nominees, three nominees from scientific organizations or
museums, and one mutually approved nomination. In addition, there are steps provided to follow
for unclaimed items, unidentifiable items, intentional and inadvertent discoveries on both federal
and tribal land. Penalties for noncompliance and illegal trafficking are also set up through the law.
NAGPRA does not prohibit all scientific study or mandate the repatriation of the human remains
and other cultural items subject to its coverage. What the law does do is provide

The brand loyalty is another very important barrier to entry. When choosing the airlines,
customers, especially the high profile ones, are being very careful about health and safety, comfort
and other details, therefore tend to choose companies with the brand they trust. Overall, the threat
of new entrants is low, because there is a number of very hard to overcome barriers to entry, and if
the small company appears on the market, it tends to be absorbed by one of the major players in
the industry.
* Threat of substitutes low
Airlines industry being an important sector of travel and tourism industry will have such potential
substitutes as the sea, railway and road types of transportation. However, as Etihad is operating in
an upper class prices level, the threat of substitutes would be fairly low. In terms of potential
business travellers, the time would be more important than money for them. In terms of leisure
tourists, the prices may matter, however, cruise ships tickets tend to be more expensive than the
planes ones. Therefore, if the experience of cruising is not extremely important for the customers,
they would prefer travelling by air.

After looking at the overall external environment, it is important to evaluate Etihad s main strengths

Dihybrid Cross Lab Report
Discussion (1226 words)
From dihybrid test crosses, map distances of 0.69 m.u. between purple and apterous, 5.71 m.u.
between black and purple, and 7.56 m.u. between black and apterous genes were determined. The
calculated map distances of 0.69 and 5.71 between more closely linked genes are consistent with
published distances of 0.7 and 6 map units respectively. Inconsistencies between published data
and calculated map distances in regards to larger map distances, such as between black and
apterous genes, are due to the nature of dihybrid test crosses. The greater distance between black
and apterous genes increases the likelihood of multiple crossovers. Double crossovers are
unaccounted for in dihybrid crosses, thus resulting in RF and map ... Show more content on

Thus, more accurate RF and map distances are generated from trihybrid crosses. Moreover, double
recombinants are useful in determining gene order in trihybrid crosses. The simultaneous
derivation of map distances and gene order from a single cross signify the efficiency of trihybrid
crosses.
Limitations of this method of gene mapping decrease accuracy of data (Hartwell et al. 2004). The
map generated from dihybrid crosses does not directly translate to the physical location of genes on
a chromosome. While gene order is maintained, map distances may not correlate with distances on
chromosomes. This is because DNA between genes does not always correspond with map units,
and due to multiple crossovers which are unaccounted for in trihybrid crosses. This increases
inaccuracy of data, especially between more separated genes. Further, the 50% RF limit leads to
less detailed measurements of distances on chromosomes. As recombination does not occur more
than 50% of the time, genes further apart on chromosomes cannot be accurately mapped. However,
a more accurate map can be established through adding smaller distances.
Emerging techniques facilitate genetic mapping in humans (Altshuler et al. 2008). Genome wide
association studies through mapping single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are useful in
identifying loci associated with disease susceptibility. SNPs are common genetic variations which

Fig. 1 Distribution of Egretta thula throughout North and South America based on seasons.
Habitat
Snowy egrets inhabit marshes, ponds, swamps, and mudflats (Bull Farrand). Since snowy egrets
are wading birds, like other herons and egrets, they prefer habitats that are close to water. Wading
birds breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food
while raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt
marshes, shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and
Central America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002).
Conservation Biology
Life cycle and reproduction
Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by
water or guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the
protection they provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built
using sticks, reeds, and other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic
vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest
located in a bush or reedbed, specific to the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994). Breeding season
begins in March or early April and males will perform both flight and vocal displays to attract
females. Snowy egrets are social nesters

Essay On Honesty
Honesty is the best policy. We have always been taught this and also that to lie is a bad thing to
do. There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for
choosing honesty in life are many including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one s
sense of moral integrity living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living
with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living
your life in a way that is honest to who you are on the inside your strengths, your gifts, and your
passions, as well as your beliefs and morals. Being true to ourselves should undoubtedly help lead

In many situations it is a good idea to keep quiet or, better still, be diplomatic and tactfully handle
sensitive issues. The line dividing honesty and diplomacy is a thin one. We have to be careful in
deciding when to be honest and when to be at our diplomatic best. We also have to decide whether
we should be absolutely candid, or use the truth as a matter of convenience.
Wars are won by words not weapons. For centuries people have tried to solve their problems by
negotiation. To escape conflicts and wars they have used words to persuade their opponents. That is
where diplomacy begins. Diplomacy is an intellectual activity and decision making derived from
ongoing analysis of current situations. Diplomacy includes the combination of ways and abilities
which any state can use for its worthy existence in the world and for establishing cooperation with
other members of international community.
In modern day and age, one has to practice diplomacy as it is essential to get one s way in a
world that is highly competitive. What you say matters a lot. One has to be careful while
conveying issues as they would have an impact on one s surroundings. Building up of personal
relationships depends upon your choice of words, how you convey them to the concerned

The incident that occurred between Sam, Henry and Brody, where Sam yells angrily at henry

Assault under Trespass to the person. For an assault to take place the defendant must commit an
act which deliberately and intentionally causes the claimant to reasonably apprehend direct and
immediate application or force .To identify whether the Defendants words or actions are a
reasonable expectation of immediate application or force, the act or words must give the
claimant good reason to fear them. Which Sam s shouting and threat is an act that would cause
the reasonable person to fear immediate application or force. Stephens v Myers (1830) .It is
reasonable to believe that Sam was going to commit an act against Henry and Brody. It doesn t
have to be proven that the claimant believed violence was going to occur, only that in the
circumstance it was a reasonable belief . For it to be considered as reasonable, the threat must be
able to be carried out there and then (immediately) which was established in the case of Thomas v

  • 2. Environmental Factors Involved In Hunger The body uses a balance of fuel (food); energy used, and body weight to determine homeostasis. When the energy level is low, and the nutrient reservoir (adipose tissue) is triggered. When the brain is low on glucose (glucoprivation), or the body is low on fatty acids (liporivation), it activates the hunger cycle. However, there are other factors involved in hunger. Environmental factors (senses), which may signal hunger even when an individual was not hungry. The five senses (smell, taste, sight, and sound) contribute to the feelings of hunger. A stomach growling is a signal for a food, or even thirst. The body requires a certain amount of nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals) in order to survive. Metabolism is the chemical course in the body to keep it alive. There are two phases in metabolism, the absorption phase, and the fasting phase. In the absorption phase is the digestive system absorbs nutrients, and excessive nutrients are stored in adipose tissue for future use. The fasting phase occurs when nutrients are unavailable to the digestive system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ghrelin sends a message to the hypothalamus that monitors body functions. The body stores the nutrients in the stomach, and a nutrient reserve. Carlson (as cited in Novin, VanderWeele, and Rezek, 1973) explained that the hepatic portal vein in the liver transmits hunger signals to the brain when glucose is low. • 3. The Power Of Music, Music And Music There are many ways to tell a story. Throughout my life I ve find this to be true. As a storyteller myself, I always try my best to utilize the many different approaches to telling a story. Whether through music, books, poetry, drawings, films, etc. I ve tried them all. I ve always been fascinated by other people s stories. I will always try to retell them myself. Most of the time I usually just talk about them. But once in awhile, I like to use what I think is the most powerful form of storytelling, music. Music has been part of my life for a while now. Throughout middle school and high school I was in both Band and Choir. And throughout these years I come to understand the power that music has with storytelling. Especially in films, I ve grown up watching films and they have impacted my life greatly. The films, Jesus Christ Super Star, La La Land, and The Grand Budapest Hotel have a musical score that expresses a story better than any words could ever express. I grew up Catholic, just as my family grew up Catholic. Every year during the season of Lent, around the time of Holy Week, my family and I would honor Jesus s final days with many traditions. Tradition such as attending mass, receiving palms, having our feet washed and of course watching the 1974 classic Jesus Christ Superstar. Now the Roman Catholic Church dosen t considered Jesus Christ Superstar a tradition, but I do. My family and I will all get together and eat some popcorn and drink some pop. ... Although she never meets him and their lives are vastly different, the two characters actually mirror each other. Clarissa and Septimus share many characteristics and think in similar manners. Septimus serves as a contrast between the veteran working class and upper class. Throughout the book, Septimus thoughts parallel Clarissa s and can be seen as an echo in some ways. This illustrates how the line between sanity and insanity can become blurred. Both characters have similar experiences, but how they go about interpreting them and finding deeper meaning about it differ because of their different personalities and experiences. The most important line in this quote is the last sentence I ve transformed myself, assumed a mortal shape, altered my looks, so I resemble any human being (70 73) , in that he wants people to choose to follow him out of their own free will, rather than forcing or scaring the people into compliance. The Theory And Practice Of Orwell s Libertarian Socialism The Theory and Practice of Orwell s Libertarian Socialism First published in 1949, Orwell certainly believed that the novel would have some higher purpose in the political sphere, and it did. But perhaps it wasn t the purpose that was truly intended? Nearly seventy years after its first appearance, 1984 can be found on many high school, college and political group reading lists. Coining terms such as Big Brother, or thoughtcrime, the novel created an entirely new type of dystopian society defined by many as Orwellian. But with close reading one can see that George Orwell wrote 1984 for a very specific purpose. In 1984 Orwell writes about the dangers of deviating from a true socialist society. In order to completely understand 1984, one must first understand the history surrounding the novel. Written from 1947 to December 1948, 1984 first hit shelves in June of 1949. The Second World War, which ravaged England, Europe, and much of the world, ended a mere four years prior. Along with the rest of Europe, London was still rebuilding from the constant bombings, and still mourning the incredible loss of life. But there was a growing threat that could not be ignored. The Soviet Union, in an effort to prevent future attacks, occupied much of Eastern Europe (known as the Eastern Bloc), including Eastern Germany, and the eastern portion of Berlin. Among Wong Kar Wei s internationally acclaimed productions, Days of Being Wilde (1990), In the Mood for Love (2000), and 2046 (2004) are loosely counted as a trilogy of love. In the end chapter of his trilogy 2046, Wong continues to focus on Chou Mu Yun, a sentimental yet callous writer and womanizer. Revolving around the affairs of Chou, 2046 presents to its audience three pathways that love could possibly offer: to unite in happiness, to move on after the denial from the loved one, and to linger upon the unanswered love in perpetuity. Mazierska discusses the overarching theme trapped in presence in Wong Kar Wei s movie as postmodern implication that correlates to Wong s addicted uses of montage and symbolism in narration and editing (p8, Mazierska). As he considers, Wong s works share the similarity with several postmodern authors. The notion of alternative temporalities is central to the narrative organization to postmodern novels, such as those of Italo Calvino and Alain Robber Grillet. (p17, Mazierska and Rascaroli). James Udden also argues in the Stubborn Persistence of Local In Wong Kar wai that Wong s popularity is credited to his typically post modern philosophy of denying his Hong Kong identity and embracing it at the same time (finnayson, p143). In some more relevant cases, Flannery Wilson discusses Wong s overlapping narration between presence and future in 2046 as the manifestation of Deleuze s theory of crystal of time, vaguely alluding to the notion that virtual and the real intermingles in 2046 (p164, Finnayson). Brunette also postulates that the sense of resisting the advancement of time correlates to what the Fredric Jameson terms as longing for the present. George Orwell s The Decline Of American Press Freedom When George Orwell writes his dystopian novel 1984 in 1949, he is extremely disturbed with the state of the world after witnessing the methods of the Soviet Union and other fascist regimes during World War Two. During this period, the Soviet Union famously burned books and controlled all media outlets in an attempt to assert dominance over the people of the USSR. In response to his emotional disquiet over these issues, Orwell writes a warning to the world of what he fears would come to pass should totalitarian governments continue to grow in power. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is very important to be aware that the media is capable of controlling the flow of information that citizens receive. Furthermore, much of the content suppressed in this country is for fear of retribution from others. When governments and other institutions suppress information, citizens are not able to address matters concerning their country, as well as around the globe. In The Decline of American Press Freedom by Anne Applebaum, Applebaum explains a recent controversy with Yale University and the publishing of a contentious comic in a scholarly report on the global consequences of political comics. The comics in question were satirical in nature and displayed the Islamic prophet Muhammad in an offensive manner. In an aniconic religion where visual depiction of the prophet is inherently blasphemous, the Islamic response to these comics were violent. When an analysis of the comics and the cultural backlash was written, instead of publishing it, Yale University swept it under the rug for fear of offending Islamic extremists. Applebaum argues that if Yale University Press refuses to publish [the comics], then that makes it much harder for anybody else to treat the cartoon controversy as a legitimate matter for scholarly and political debate (Applebaum 640). By not allowing the publishing of this analysis, Yale University is censoring what the American populace have access to in terms of global controversy. The issue becomes trivialized because institutions fear retribution from extremist groups. Without these scholarly points of reference of this issue and others, it is difficult to have a serious conversations about the ramifications of political and religious satire. Looking at the case, it states that the tourism industry was in its maturity state by 2007. During this time hotels were running elaborate campaigns to make their hotels and business stand out. But with the declining pool of tourists, there was less profit to be made and as a result less money to reinvest into the hotel. It is no surprise then; that given time and diminished incentive to reinvest, that the website told a different story than reality. If the McKenzie s would have researched a little more, followed up on their gut intuitions about the Regal Carnation, and considered how it fits in with Guam s overall economy and history perhaps they would have realized the fallacy of deciding upon value based solely on a website. It is commonly believed that each product in business goes through what is called a product life cycle. It can typically be divided into four distinctive categories. Simply put, Introduction, Growth, Maturity and Decline are the four names that describe the different sections. Guam s tourism industry is currently going through the Decline stage of the product life cycle. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He kept a hand on the wall and followed the sound of Su Zhe s footfall through the unobstructed passage until dimming sunlight split the darkness. They exited into a crumbling structure with moldy beams and tangled spider webs, a deserted court with a backdoor into the mountains that rose on the east border of Hua. Jingyan followed Su Zhe through a grassy meadow and into a forest. Sometime in the middle of their walk, the last rays of the sun slinked behind the horizon and left them in the shadows of the gnarled oak trees. Twigs and fallen leaves crunched under his boot as Jingyan picked his way through the damp moss of the forest path, dodging sagged branches and stepping over surface roots. The wind was beginning to pick up, gently rustling the thick, dark green leaves of the shrubs nearby. Su Zhe walked on his right, body obscured by his oversized cloak. Don t you have anything to say to me? Jingyan s question broke the silence that d hung about since the hidden corridor was revealed. When you follow me without a question or comment, said Su Zhe. The Minister s Black Veil is written by Nathaniel Hawthorne a short story about how everyone sins and hides behind a black veil. He has changed himself into something awful, only by hiding his face . • 24. The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first described by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling prices of an object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting higher prices than a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a much lower maximum price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon the perspective of the person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age. Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s (1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk averse. • 27. Eyewitness Testimony And Its Effect On The Credibility Of... Eyewitness testimony is a hot button issue in not only the criminal justice field but also the psychology field as well. It continues to be argued that this type of evidence is far too unreliable for the court room and can ultimately end up punishing the wrong person for a crime they did not commit. The influence of an eyewitness testimonycannot be denied as research has showed that, adding a single prosecution eyewitness to a murder trial summary increased the percentage of mock jurors guilty verdicts from 18 to 72 (Leippe, Manion, Romanczyk, p. 182, 1992). In the article discussed here, researchers will look into various age groups to see if age has an effect on the credibility of eyewitness testimonies while attempting to discern what certain cues build upon such credibility. Despite such criticism the effect of an eyewitness testimony is still obviously powerful which makes this issue that much more controversial. That vast increase previously mentioned was based off of a simple statement rather than an actual witness being present, which shows that a testimony does not need to be confirmed visually or audibly to be trusted. Although, the witness involved in said mock trial was an adult, as adult memory is trusted to be more accurate than that of a child s. • 28. Modernization And Development Towards Democracy This research paper uncovers the study of modernization and how it correlates to political development towards democracy. First, it examines the development and origins of the modernization theory that encompass a number of explanations that connect economic, social and cultural changes with shifts in political systems. Modernization puts forth the idea that economic development will lead to cultural and social changes that transform the political behavior of a country s citizens that can ultimately lead to democratic governments. Subsequently, the paper moves to the empirical evidence supporting the modernization theory and critiquing the theory s broader applicability. Some critics would suggest that certain types of economic development could actually destabilize society, rather than progressing the cultural and social components that provide the starting point for democratic societies. Meanwhile, others have advocated that wealth does not explain the emergence of democracy, and that the likelihood that a country remains democratic is higher in richer countries. Finally, it will look into future avenues in research on the correlation between political development and modernization. Themes such as solitude, childhood, criticism, and love tied in into his life lessons trying to give Kappus a different perspective. Rilke taught Kappus to enjoy solitude, maintain childhoodinnocence, ignore people s opinions, and to value the true meaning of love. Not only does Rilke help and inspire Kappus but his readers as well. These letters allow readers to form a new perspective on life due to Rilke s wisdom and knowledgeability. What is necessary, after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no one for hours that is what you must be able to attain, (Rilke 41). Rilke wanted Kappus to realize that there is no reason to fear solitude. Solitude is about enjoying time spent alone, allowing people to explore what s within. People tend to present themselves in a different manner when around others but solitude allows one to be themselves. Not taking the time to get to know what is within and constantly being surrounded by people, may have a negative effect on a person. Someone who doesn t take the time to get to know themselves will allow others to shape them into the person they feel they re expected to become. • 41. Differences Of Hinduism And Hinduism Hinduism is one big family of beliefs that unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a single divine reality. Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to defend it and spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. At first many of its teachings and scriptures were passed down orally but eventually, were written down for all to cherish. In Christianity we find that Jesus is the originator of this religion, and is purely a missionary religion. Traveling and branching out to as many people as possible to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ. Also, in similar sense there are many denominations within the religion that have different teachings but all usually lead to the same result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself. Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship depends on one s own personality or age. The most common deities prayed to would be the three in the Trimurti. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and represent the forces of creation, preservation, and destruction. Brahma is the god of creation and often depicted as having four faces looking in all directions and eight arms holding symbols of power. Vishnu is the god of preserving the universe and is often depicted as having four arms holding symbols of power and usually wears a tall crown. Shiva is the god of destruction but also recreation. • 43. Article Report On The Law And Safety Codes Essay Article Summary I selected the article Duty to Warn and Protect: Not in Texas for review, as it applies to the state in which I reside. The article cites Texas Health and Safety Codes, based on a 1999 Texas Supreme Court ruling that states counselors do not have a duty to warn or protect. Having a duty to warn and protect is defined as protecting clients or others from perceived harm (Jackson Cherry Erford, 2014). An example would be that a client tells their counselor in a confidential session that he is considering stabbing his ex girlfriend. The duty to warn would mean the counselor should notify authorities and the ex girlfriend thus breaking confidentiality. The duty to protect would be to admit client to a facility for the client to be assessed for a propensity for violence towards the ex girlfriend. This became important after a 1969 incident where a counselor, had a client expressed harm towards a girl and the counselor contacted the authorities, yet never contacted the girl, who was subsequently killed by the client a few months later, known as the Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California case (Jackson Cherry Erford, 2014). The article Duty to Warn and Protect: Not in Texascites the 1999 Texas Supreme court decision in the case Thapar v. Zezulka; which stated that counselors do not have a duty to warn and protect because it breaks client/counselor confidentiality (Barbee, Combs, Ekleberry, Villalobos, 2007). Questions on the Rescue of the Chilean Miners Over 30 Workers Trapped Introduction On August 5, 2010 the 121 year old San Jose copper and gold mine collapsed in Southern Chile (trapping 33 miners beneath the surface). During the ordeal, there was a tremendous public relations effort behind the scenes that was occurring. To fully understand what took place requires looking at: the considerations for the different kinds of stakeholders, the actions that must be taken before / after the message is delivered and creating two sample communications for constituents. Together, these elements will provide the greatest insights as to how information is released by taking the various viewpoints into account. (Lusted, 2012) What are some considerations to remember given the different roles and people in the audience? During the process of communicating with everyone is when there will be different roles for stakeholders. The way that this will occur is to take into account a number of factors to include: the sensitivity of the message, what kinds of information are being conveyed and the tone. The combination of these elements will help to inform the audience and provide a way of offering a form of hope. (Lusted, 2012) (Coombs, 2012, pp. 243 281) What would be the potential needs of the families of the miners in receiving a message about this incident? This upper atmosphere and the magnetic field form a coupled system with the Sun and the geospace. This coupled system and their interaction with each other is studied under the Sun Earth Connection program.[4] The Sun is a hot ball of gas made of hydrogen. Most of its gas is in the fourth state of matter known as plasma, where the gas heats up to the point where atoms break up into plasma. The Sun s plasma is so hot that it escapes the Sun s gravitational field. This escape of plasma from the Sun is also known as Coronal Mass Ejection or CME. The escaped plasma forms the solar wind which blows out of the Sun and travels across the solar system with a speed of 500 Km/s, interacting with the planets magnetic field and atmosphere. These interactions result in the change of the planets, or in our case, the Earth s magnetic field from the dipole magnetic field to a plasma swept magnetosphere. The interactions also produce current to flow through the Earth s upper atmosphere and the magnetosphere causing neon light like effect resulting in the formation of aurora.[5]The Sun s atmosphere also results in other effects such as prominences and solar flare. The solar flares eject high energy particles and gases which are about 13 million oC. These solar flares also cause strong space weather changes by producing a stream of highly energetic particles which impacts Earths magnetosphere.[6] Thus, these solar winds and solar flares are an ... • 51. Dihybrid Cross Lab Report Discussion (1226 words) From dihybrid test crosses, map distances of 0.69 m.u. between purple and apterous, 5.71 m.u. between black and purple, and 7.56 m.u. between black and apterous genes were determined. The calculated map distances of 0.69 and 5.71 between more closely linked genes are consistent with published distances of 0.7 and 6 map units respectively. Inconsistencies between published data and calculated map distances in regards to larger map distances, such as between black and apterous genes, are due to the nature of dihybrid test crosses. The greater distance between black and apterous genes increases the likelihood of multiple crossovers. Double crossovers are unaccounted for in dihybrid crosses, thus resulting in RF and map ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, more accurate RF and map distances are generated from trihybrid crosses. Moreover, double recombinants are useful in determining gene order in trihybrid crosses. The simultaneous derivation of map distances and gene order from a single cross signify the efficiency of trihybrid crosses. Limitations of this method of gene mapping decrease accuracy of data (Hartwell et al. 2004). The map generated from dihybrid crosses does not directly translate to the physical location of genes on a chromosome. While gene order is maintained, map distances may not correlate with distances on chromosomes. This is because DNA between genes does not always correspond with map units, and due to multiple crossovers which are unaccounted for in trihybrid crosses. This increases inaccuracy of data, especially between more separated genes. Further, the 50% RF limit leads to less detailed measurements of distances on chromosomes. As recombination does not occur more than 50% of the time, genes further apart on chromosomes cannot be accurately mapped. However, a more accurate map can be established through adding smaller distances. Emerging techniques facilitate genetic mapping in humans (Altshuler et al. 2008). Genome wide association studies through mapping single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are useful in identifying loci associated with disease susceptibility. Wading birds breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food while raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt marshes, shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and Central America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002). Conservation Biology Life cycle and reproduction Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by water or guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the protection they provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built using sticks, reeds, and other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest located in a bush or reedbed, specific to the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994).
