Introduction
First and foremost, this is our final project for subject ENBE,
which all students have to come out with their own ideas to make
and design their own future city. The idea of this project is to
understand the component and elements of a city and what makes
a better future city. Basically, there are different types of cities to
be chosen by the students such as floating city, underwater city,
city on the air and etc. My group (H20) have chosen floating city.
From this project, each groups have about 5-6 students, where
we all have to work as a team to make a model. The final project is
divided into two parts, Part A and Part B. For Part A, each of
everyone has to create their own short 3 minutes video
presentation of the future city, as well as preparing an A4 report.
These two tasks are considered as individual work (20%). For Part
B, students have to prepare A2 presentation board and a model of
the city, which will be considered as group work (20%).
The objectives of this project is to expose the elements of the
natural and built environment in their basic unit, form and function,
show partnership of the elements of the natural and built
environment and to question and articulate the impact between
natural and built environment.

The City
A city is a relatively large and permanent human
settlement that have a particular administrative, legal, or
historical status based on local law. It has a complex
systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and
transportation. It also has associated suburbs and exurbs.
It is usually associated with metropolitan areas and urban
areas, creating numerous business commuters travelling
to urban centres for employment. In my opinion, the
design and structure that can be very influential in the life
is what makes the city. They also have to create novel
contexts for a community to develop in a more sustainable
way. Besides, what makes a good city is a city that is
more livable and very sustainable in their use of energy.

Ancient Cities: Mount Parnassus ,
Greece

I have chosen Mount Parnassus as my ancient city. Basically, this city contains a
mountain of limestone in central Greece that towers above Delphi, north of the Gulf
of Corinth, and offers scenic views of the surrounding olive groves and countryside.
According to Greek mythology, this mountain was sacred to Apollo and the Corycian
nymphs, and the home of the Muses. The mountain was also favored by the Dorians.
There is a theory that Parna- derived from the same root as the word in Luwian
meaning House. Ski Centre is composed of two sections, Kellaria and Fterolakka,
which together make up the largest ski centre in Greece. A smaller ski centre (only
two drag lifts) called Gerontovrahos is across a ridge from Kellaria. Parnassus is
mined for its abundant supply of bauxite which is converted to aluminium oxide and
then to aluminium. Both ski resorts continued expanding and in 1993 the first high-
speed quad in Greece was installed, named Hercules.Today the ski centre operates
with 14 lifts,a 4-seater cable car, a 4-seater high-speed chair lift, four 3-seaters, one
2-seater chair lift and 6 drag lifts, with a maximum capacity of about 5000 people per
hour. The ski centre boasts 25 marked ski runs and about 12 ski routes of 30 km
(19 mi) total length while the longest run is 4 km (2 mi). As a conclusion, this city has
its own history and made of some unique materials and design.

Present Cities: New York City
New York is the most populous city in the United States. It is the center of one of the
most populous urban agglomerations in the world. Besides, New York is also an
important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural
and financial capital of the world. The census-estimated 2013 of population is around
8,405,837.
History of New York City
The first native New Yorkers were the Lenape, an Algonquin people who hunted, fished and
farmed in the area between the Delaware and Hudson rivers. Europeans began to explore
the region at the beginning of the 16th century–among the first was Giovanni da Verrazzano,
an Italian who sailed up and down the Atlantic coast in search of a route to Asia–but none
settled there until 1624. That year, the Dutch West India Company sent some 30 families to
live and work in a tiny settlement on “Nutten Island” (today’s Governors Island) that they
called New Amsterdam. In 1626, the settlement’s governor general, Peter Minuit, purchased
the much larger Manhattan Island from the natives for 60 guilders in trade goods such as
tools, farming equipment, cloth and wampum (shell beads). Fewer than 300 people lived in
New Amsterdam when the settlement moved to Manhattan. But it grew quickly, and in 1760
the city (now called New York City; population 18,000) surpassed Boston to become the

second-largest city in the American colonies. Fifty years later, with a population 202,589, it
became the largest city in the Western hemisphere.
Future Cities: Slipstream Heathrow
I have chosen this place as my future city. Basically, Slipstream
appears like a jet's vapour trail and is suspended 18m (60ft)
above the ground of the £2.5bn terminal. The sculpture is 78m
(260ft) long, weighs 77 tonnes and consists of 23 bespoke
pieces. An estimated 20 million passengers a year will pass
underneath the artwork as they head to catch their flights. It
was designed by British artist Richard Wilson (below left) and
incorporated into the terminal's design by lead architect Luis
Vidal. It was also built at his workshop in Hull, it is made up of
nearly 500,000 components which were precision-cut into
different layers before being covered in aluminium. Also known
as the Queen's Terminal, Terminal 2 is set to open for business

on 4 June, 59 years after the original terminal was opened.
More than 20 airlines and 25,000 staff will operate out of T2.
Havoc City
This is a city designed by me, which I name it
Havoc City. It is a floating city with some special
characteristics with its own ways. Basically,
HAVOC itself has its own meaning which is:

Transportation
Train:

Railway Station
1. Place where people of Havoc City take the train to go to other
places of the city.

2. They have to queue up every 30 minutes for the next train.
3. All people of Havoc City will own their own ‘Train Access Card’ to
move from one place to another place by train.
4. They have to reload the card whenever the prepaid amount is
finished or expired.
5. They have to punch the card before they can enter the train.

1. From the railway station, after the people of Havoc City arrive at
their destination, they have to take the elevator before entering
the building area.
2. Each lift can fit more than 50 people.
3. The design of the elevator is very unique and futuristic.

Conclusion
From this project, I have learnt that it is important to live in a city
which is sustainable, more livable and etc in order to have a better
life. Besides, building a city is not just about designing to make it
nice, but it’s just more than that. For example, you have to think
about how you can make it a better place to live such as how it
gets its energy resource, transportation, facilities, cultural area,
walkability, human activities, as well as cultural area and etc.
Besides, I have learnt that it is very important to understand the
brief before we start doing the project. We have to prepare and
manage time wisely for this project. In my opinion, doing a project

without any plan and preparation is like playing football without any
game plan.
So far, I really enjoy doing this project. Thank god, I finally
managed to finalize both my short video presentation and a report
for my future city. I am really looking forward to build a model for
my city, as well as presentation board soon.
