Gears and Simple Machines
Gears are part of one of the six simple machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines, such as
the wheel and axle, are mechanisms created to make difficult work much easier. The six simple
machines consist of the inclined plane, screw, lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel and axle. Gears can
be found in many household items today. For example, watches, bicycles, and pencil sharpeners.
The most common object, in which gears are found, is the car. The car s steering wheel is a simple
machine, called the wheel and axle. Gears however, are not found in the steering wheel, but are
located in the engine. The gears are then controlled by the gear shift, which spins the gears
around, causing the car to move or brake. Gears are circular objects that have teeth all around the
outer rim, or just a wheel with teeth. When in movement, if a singular gear s teeth fit into a
second gear, it will cause that second gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the first gear. This
can then be continued by adding more gears, which in turn create a system of gears. A gear system
can be used to function a machine, such as car s gear shift. This system is called a gear train.
Whichever gear starts the gear train by rotating is called the driver. The final gear on the opposite
end of the train is called the driven gear. Meshed Gears is a gear train of five or more gears. There
are many other gear types such as Spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears, rack gears, and internal
gears. All these gears are

The Goal Setting And Attainment
Unit One Essay
Goal setting and attainment appears to be a straightforward proposal. You simply come up with
an obtainable goal and then you work hard to make it a reality. To begin with I give myself short
term and long term goals to achieve. Before I joined the Army my short term goal was to achieve
the rank of Sergeant (E 5). My next short term goal wasn t to just achieve the next rank of Staff
Sergeant (E 6) I wanted to aim a little higher and make Sergeant First Class (E 7) within eight
years, which I did. My long term goal was to ultimately make it to the rank of Sergeant major (E
9). This goal is going to be harder to achieve, but I know as long as I work hard I will achieve
that goal. Goals are great, but without follow through these goals will never come to fruition.
By breaking down goals into smaller goals a person will gain confidence and can eventually turn
those small term goals in long term goals. I knew that I could not just jump to Sergeant Major
and that s why I set small short term goals to achieve that rank. What is going to make me
successful not only in my career, but also in my everyday life is accomplishing one short term
goal at a time. To obtain a Goal it requires steps or processes to achieve the desired outcome which,
according to Tim Harford, includes failure.
In Tim Harford s book Adapt he accepts that in the path to success don t be afraid to fail in the
process. The consequence of disappointment makes versatility, which is a key

Naturalization Of Immigration Essay
Though these recent initiatives have attempted to facilitate naturalization for undocumented
immigrants in the U.S., there is more to be done. Significant opposition exists, however, in the
duration of the Obama administration, more immigrant friendly bills have reached Congress with
greater popularity than before, and this recent turnaround in policies can be linked to the release of
many studies showing the positive effects of immigration. Even with the widely popularized
argument that immigrants in the United Statescause failings in society, there are a multitude of
benefits the federal government can derive through streamlining naturalization for illegal
immigrants. Keeping up these walls, both physical and legal, between immigrants and... Show more

These blocks are unnecessary, especially when immigration is a profitable system. As Peter
Duignan succinctly states, ...the United States, thanks to immigration, has a growing population.
Immigrant labor, moreover, keeps prices, supplies, and services available and cheap ( Immigrants
and America, February 2004). Having a large pool of workers is always a good thing, both for
keeping costs low and for encouraging competition in the market. Many current laws also bring
about moral issues, like the underlying racism found in several infamous laws and the countless
number of families being torn apart through deportation. Economists, politicians, and government
officials all support immigration for these three basic reasons.
By easing the process of naturalization for undocumented immigrants, several fiscal disadvantages
can be avoided. One simple effect is the decrease in deportation rates (Duignan, et al., Immigrants
and America ). Logically, Duignan explains that when naturalization is made simpler, fewer
immigrants remain undocumented in the long run. The cost of deporting immigrants is a heavy
weight on the American fiscal system, ranging from thirty to over sixty billion dollars per year,
spent on identifying illegal aliens,

Benefits Of A Successful Business
In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated
to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue
to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment,
and showing appreciation.
When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects
negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return.
Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their
friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that
customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad
reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb).
By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those
employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a
company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business
makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform
better at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. Google is an example of a company
that is highly successful and is known for having generous benefits for their employees to par take.

Essay on The Catholic Religion
The world has more than one billion Catholics and with the ever growing population, it will only
get larger in number. To be a Catholic means to have complete faith in God and his divine grace.
Having God s divine grace means to obey it and keep it holy as it was created by God and given
to his people. The religion itself is based on this and the people take it very seriously. Catholics
believe that all people are of good nature but when one commits a sin it not only hurts that one
person but the people and the Church. Catholics are a Christian sect and believe in one God. Like
other Christians, they believe that Jesus is God s Son which goes hand in hand with the belief in
the Holy Trinity. God the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit... Show more content on

Many Catholics attend mass on Saturday night instead of Sunday morning because of the work
schedule. This was not always the case but has been accepted by Christians since around 1980.
They also have rituals of respect during the service which includes kneeling, singing, bowing
and responding to the priest or deacon. Catholics incorporation their religion into everything
since God created everything. The things one says, the things one do, and even one s thoughts
are under God. Catholicism is not a once in a while religion; it is everyday, 24 7 religion that a
Catholic relates everything to. As every religion there are certain things that one must do in
order to stay a Catholic. Everyday rituals include daily prayer, live a Christian life, and except
the teaching of the church and of God. Being Catholic, one must go to mass every Sunday and
holy day as part of the religion. Catholics must only eat one full meal during Ash Wednesday and
sustain from meat on the Fridays during Lent which is part of the fasting and abstinence
obligation of Catholicism. Lent lasts 40 days and 40 nights. They are to obey the laws of
marriage in which the church carries as well as going to confession as much as needed. Every
religion has those followers that have been very dedicated to the faith, those who have strayed,

Poverty In A Raisin In The Sun
Economic and societal poverty are the key forms of poverty highlighted in the three act play, A
Raisin in the Sun. Lorraine Hansberry, the playwright, discusses the hardships of African
Americans attempting to emerge in society in the 1950 s. The play is staged in ways where the
audience can grasp the trifles of an African American family continuously experiencing setbacks
whilst attempting to achieve their notion of the American Dream . To Walter Lee Younger, his idea
of the American Dream is that anything is possible for those who have money. Unfortunately, there
is a minor problem: Walter Lee Younger is a working class African American man who struggles to

He fails to consider the stepping stones that are necessary in earning money. In The Politics of
Home in Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun, Kristin Matthews said: This literal home
mirrors the psycho social struggle of mid century African Americans to attain, secure, and define
a sense of place, or home, in the face of systemic socio economic racism (Matthews). The play
opens with Ruth Younger waking up her son, Travis, for school. By this point, the audience can
see poverty already. To put it into context, Ruth woke up and is walking through the living room
that has been worn and it is visible that the furniture has been supporting too many people for too
many years (Hansberry, 998) and she tries to wake up Travis, who is seen sleeping on the sofa.
The house is crowded to the point where Walter and Ruth Younger s son is in a situation where
the only place to sleep is the sofa. That is a sign of economic poverty, simply because the family
cannot afford to live in a place where their son has a bedroom. The house is an apartment that
homes: Lena Mama , Walter, Ruth, Travis, and Beneatha Younger. It is a two bedroom unit housing
five people. There, again, is a sign of economic poverty, because this is a family that cannot support
themselves to live in an adequate setting. The mere fact that three generations need to share a living

The Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin is about Mrs. Mallard, a lady with heart troubles
who is married to Brently Mallard. At the beginning of the story, her husband s friend Richards
and her sister Josephine informed Mrs. Mallard that a railroad accident had killed her husband.
After she had received the news, she then went by herself in her room alone (Chopin 337). The
story then goes on to say, When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her
slightly parted lips. She said it repeatedly under her breath: free, free, free! Later on, it states she

(Evans 1). My next source discusses the emotions that took place throughout the short story. When
informed about her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard is unaware to the beauty of life breaks down
under the powerful impact of emotion. She thinks it worthless to continue her existence (Jamil
216). In the story the narrator states, It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that
life might be long (Chopin 338). The narrator also points that Mrs. Mallard is not struck, as
many women have been, by a paralyzed inability to accept the painful sense of loss. This storm
that haunts her body seems to reach her soul ultimately purges her of the sufferance of a
meaningless life, as it becomes motivation that leads to her new freedom (Jamil 216). Mrs.
Mallard s heart trouble is not so much a physical disorder like the characters of the story think. It
actually is a sign of a woman who has surrendered her heart to the culture of paternalism. The
physiological outlook of her heart condition looks as if a result of the burden of allowing an
individual s powerful will to overlook and smother her own will. Mrs. Mallard set aside the social
aspect of the world and allowed her individuality to develop (Jamil 216). Throughout the story, the
narrator says a monstrous joy and Free! Body and soul free! which shows us her new emotional
freedom is awakening her mind (Jamil 217). Chopin shows that through Mrs. Mallard watching the

afford to keep debt and manage it because of the good financial indicators. Below is a graph from
Creditworthiness showing the U.S. average household debt vs saving leading into the 2008
financial crisis. Most of the debt seen by households was in the form of mortgages, and loans

lead to competition among banks to lower interest rates, give out adjustable rate mortgages, and
even give no income no asset loans, it was easy to get the credit backing from banks and

The Army examination of the drill sergeant selection sys tem found it did not consider a candidate
s maturity or complete a thorough background check. There was no close investigation of
instances where drill sergeants had beaten their wives, which was a particular problem with some
of the accused at the Aberd een Proving Ground. The military s position is that the problems of
sexual harassment int eh military can be attributed to a lack of leadership, detailed in two army
investigations (Barry and Thomas 49; Schitt A1, A19).
Opponents of the military s lack fo leadership reasoning believe the problems lie in how the
military environment facilitates sexual harassment, in addition to making it difficult for women to
resist or report instances of sexual advanes. They fee l the creed of drill sergeants, the power of
the military structure, and the fat that military women can not just walk away from their jobs
contributes to drill sergeants having powers over women that result in sexual harassment. These
issues are explain ed by civilian psychiatrist Major Elsbeth Ritchie in testimony at the court martial
of a drill sergeant from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ritchie explains that fear of sexual
harassment in the military is elevated due to a drill sergeant creed of I am Mother, I am Father, and
God to recruits (qtd. Sciolino, pg. A14). Furthermore, the military structure is so

Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift
Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the
tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England.
The world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to
their own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. Englandhad left
Irelandstarving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays
intending to spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not
respond. Terry Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to
action Swift in actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature
provided the humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the
vicarious experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss,
as Derrida would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating
an uprising the structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton
said, If masses are not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades.

not Swift s essays have the same effect? Eagleton states that there is something humanizing and

Algebraic And Transcendental Equation
Solution of Algebraic Transcendental Equation

When mathematically modeling real life situations we often come across equations in the form of
f(x)=0. These equations can either be in the form of algebraic or transcendental equations. In

This is shown through his ability to easily help the Lost Boys and Peter Pan fight Captain Hook.
John does not think like a powerful warlord. He does, however, think in ways that many of the
other characters cannot. When Peter imitates the ticking noise that the crocodile that desires to kill
Hook and boards the ship late in the story, he strikes the quartermaster of the pirates. Thinking
quickly on his feet, John covers the mouth of the pirate, making sure he stays quiet. This helps
Peter remain quiet, an advantage which he uses later to finally kill Hook. John s quick thinking
helped end the fight against Hook. John also shows his maturity through his intelligent decisions.
John knew at times, it is best to pretend to act a certain way to avoid punishment or verbal abuse.
John and Michael, his very young brother, both pretended to be happy whenever Peter lost interest
in adventures, so as to not upset him. John would simply sit quietly when Peter would sit on a
stool, pretending to go on adventures. Denial of these adventures would certainly warrant poor
treatment from Peter, and John knew this. Therefore, John is also able to act mature even though he
is only twelve years old by exhibiting a great fighting mind and clever decision making ability,
unlike Peter Pan, who tends to act very immature and childish. Subsequently, Peter Pan

African American Muslim
For the American Muslim
Several years back, W.E.B. Du Bois coined a term double consciousness. He used to term to
describe the phenomenon of how African Americans lived their lives with two different scripts or
how to behave. The first script, was the one that applied to anyone regardless of race or identity.
The second was unique to blacks, who often felt obliged to view themselves through the lens of
the dominant white group. Du Bois s ideology was absolutely correct. Not just for the African
American but also for most other minority groups as well. Nowadays, I feel like I go through the
same phenomenon myself as an American Muslim.
Although today s American Muslim, unless he or she is racially black, doesn t face double
consciousness through the lens of Du Bois for the African American, we do face the same form
of confusion and struggle to be less of ourselves and more of what needs to be seen. Even when
what most of us are in reality isn t harmful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Environmental And Environmental Issues During The...
Environmental Issues and the Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution took pace from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period when rural
areas became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, engineering was mainly
done in people s homes. They used hand tools and sometimes basic machines. Industrialization
put an end to that, using powered, advanced machinery, factories and mass production. This
made engineering much faster, easier and more efficient. It even increased the amount of factory
made goods, as well as the variety of them. Industrialization improved the living conditions for
people in the middle and upper classes. The poor and working classes had to do the dangerous
jobs, for a very low amount of pay, while working in harmful conditions. So many people from the
rural areas were moving to the urban areas for work, that they couldn t keep up. This caused
overpopulation. Homes were overcrowded, and people were living in polluted and unsanitary
conditions, which made them more at risk of diseases. Pollution is one of the most environmentally
negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution. Air, water, and soil pollution were extremely bad
during the Industrial Revolution. Industrialization polluted the air, water and soils due to the waste
products that factories generate. Most factories and industries require water for their work. When
water is involved in these processes, it encounters metals, chemicals, and wastes, that will
contaminate it. They are then dumped into oceans and rivers. Doing so, kills fish and other sea
animals, decreasing the population. Farmers us this water to grow their crops. Using contaminated
water then affects the quality of their crops. When the farmers use the water in their soil, it can
cause soil pollution. This pollution will destroy plants if anything or anyone comes in contact with
it, it can cause long lasting health issues. Air pollution can cause a variety of illnesses for people
and the environment. With all of these pollutions, there comes an increase in global warming.
Global warming causes glaciers to melt, extinction of animals, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes,
which are some of the deadliest natural phenomena. If any of these phenomena

Essay On Islamic Money Market
Islamic Capital Market
Current Position of ICM in Bangladesh
Islamic Money Market
The Bangladesh Bank introduced an Islamic money market that is, the Islamic Interbank Fund

Discrimination And Discrimination
America s prison incarceration rate has increased by over 600%. This outlandish statistic leaves
America with the largest incarceration rate in the world. (Pager 2003) As of right now, one third of
the population has a criminal record of some sort (Barraza 2016). The issue of incarceration doesn t
stop with alarming numbers, however. A damaging amount of stigma is attached to those that have
a criminal record. Having a record essentially becomes an automatic stamp of dismissal from
American society; you are barred from, or severely limited in your ability to, gain meaningful
employment, pay for higher education, or, in some cases, be banned from housing altogether. In
2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that they would now be
expanding the protections of the Fair Housing Act to restrict the blanket denial of housing to those
with criminal records (2016). To better understand the content of this newer policy, the social
conditions that made it necessary, and the impact it can have on inequality, having an understanding
of sociological concepts such as approaches to community based discrimination, de facto
segregation, steering practices, total discrimination, and the benefits of integration is essential.
The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed to prevent the same discrimination we seem to be
suffocating in today. The purpose of the act was to make it unlawful to deny access to housing
based on the race, color, religion, or national origin (Yinger 1999). Later, the act would be
amended to included protected parties such as disabled people, for example. Almost 50 years
after the original act was signed into law, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development is making a change to expand, or at least specifically acknowledge and included,
those that have a criminal record. The press release made by a department representative
explicitly states, Under this standard, a facially neutral policy or practice that has a discriminatory
effect violates the Act if it is not supported by a legally sufficient justification. Thus, where a
policy or practice that restricts access to housing on the basis of criminal history has a disparate
impact on individuals of a particular race,

Biblical Theology of Worship Throughout our time in Church, and here at Moody, it is hard to go

should worship him. But what does that mean and how do we do it? What does the bible say about
worshiping God? Worshipis the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for God. I think
that we can show that through our daily actions and also through singing to God and praying to
him, as we most commonly see in Church When we envision worship in our minds, we commonly

If they knew why we do what we do in worship on Sunday then they would be much more

on Sunday morning, what better place to look than at some of the churches that Paul wrote to in
his epistles, because apparently we aren t the only ones that are struggling to find out what the
best way of planning corporate worship is. The first verse that anyone goes to for Corporate
Worship is found in Colossians 3:16 when Paul tells the Colossians to, Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. The first step that Paul gives
to the Colossians is to let the word of Christ dwell in you richly , showing there is a connection
between Corporate Worship and the reading of the Word of God. It almost appears as if Paul is
saying we need to read the Word first before we can all come together in worship of God. Then
Paul says we should be teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, This section shows
us two things: teaching, and fellowship. We need to be taught about the word of God and also we
need to keep in touch with other believers and go through life with them, learning from them and
vice versa. Hebrews 10:25 is an example of this, saying we shouldn t be neglecting seeing each

who all shared a collective goal of creating a universal Art. Theo van Doesburgh launched the

basic shapes and lines to eventually lines and rectangles and this is where the typical De Stijl style
was created.
Van doesburgh did not feel like he was different to the other painters he was working with instead

#Juror 8.You do not believe the boy s story, how can you believe the woman s.
I think it is not necessary that if one story seems wrong then another will also be. If someone don t
believe on one story then it is not necessary for them to not believe on another. We can t force
another to view everything in similar way.
#Juror 3.Nobody proved otherwise
If someone blame on me that i have killed someone and i have no evidence, it means not i really
killed someone. During initial inspection of the case there was no evidence in favor of kid. Due to
that we should not assume that kid had killed his father. There may be also possibility that all the

Prosocial Behavior And Human Social Life
Tandis Moghadam 1 May 2015 Prosocial Behavior in Great Apes Prosocial behaviors are a huge
aspect to human social life; it involves helping, encouraging, and/or sharing information.
Sympathy and empathy are the main characteristics for prosocial behaviors. Sympathy portrays
feelings of pity and compassion for someone else s ill fortune, while empathy means having the
ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Sympathy and empathy are known to be
crucial skills needed to keep up with the complicated social life of humans. People who are
sympathetic or empathic are commonly more prone to act in prosocial ways and commonly less
prone to convey antisocial behaviors (i.e aggression). People have argued that humans are the
only species that show selfless behaviors, while others have proposed that it is impossible for
selfless behaviors to only be in humans. In article by Katja Liebal, Amrisha Vaish, Daniel Haun,
and Michael Tomasello called, Does Sympathy Motivate Prosocial Behaviour in Great Apes? ,
these researchers studied whether the prosocial behavior of four species of great apes
(orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos) is provoked by sympathy for others. The
researchers wanted to find out whether or not the great apes show more prosocial behavior
towards a harmed species than towards a non harmed species. A higher prosocial behavior towards
a harmed species would mean that sympathy leads prosocial behavior in apes the same way it does
in humans. They

Questions On Target Data Breach
Target Data Breach
Blake J. Wells
ECPI University
Abstract In December of 2013, over 40 million credit card information was stolen from 2000
Target stores. This paper will explore the known issues in the Target breach and consider some of
the Critical Controls that could have been used to prevent this breach and mitigate the losses. There
are multiple factors that led to the largest data loss in history. Vendors were subject to various
phishing attacks, memory scraping malware and detection used by Target that failed. One of the
possible solutions for preventing and mitigating similar breaches is using a multi layered security
strategy, and to consider human factors that may be contributed to the loss of this information.
The Breach
Target, one of the nation s largest retailers, had a data breach that had up to 40 million consumers
have their credit card and debit card data stolen, while up to 70 million had their personal
information stolen such as their addresses and phone numbers. Information from the credit and
debit cards stolen was the names, the card numbers, expiration date and the CVV (card verification
value). The consumer information that was stolen such as names, mailing addresses, phone
numbers, and even email addresses. The breach took place during the holiday shopping rush of
2013. This breach damaged Target s sales during the holiday season, and remains one of the largest

Compare And Contrast Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief
How can we modernize a story to make it more relatable and understanding to a new generation of
learners? The book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief based on the original, The Legend of
Perseus, is taken and molded into a new take on ancient greek mythology. Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief draws on and adds to the original characters, uses similarities and creates
differences to rejuvenate the old story.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief has very similar plot types and structures to the original

For example, theme concepts and how they are modernized to this generation of readers. First,
in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and The Legend of Perseus there is a common theme
of brains over brawn. When Percy Jackson is left in the arch by Grover and Annabeth he realizes
that the woman and her chihuahua are monsters sent by Hades and when Percy discovers their
real identities he jumps out of a window blown up by the demons into the river. Annabeth stood
behind him... We can t leave you alone for five minutes! What happened? I sort of fell. Percy! Six
hundred and thirty feet? ( Riordan, 217)Percy used brains over brawn because he had to think
quickly to escape a dangerous situation. Perseus, after returning with his new wife to be and Medusa
s head, learned that the king tried to take Danae after Percy left, so the fishermen fled with her
and went into hiding. Perseus went to the king and used his intuition to bring out the head and
show him so then the king turned to stone as well. By thinking quick Perseus killed the king, his
mother and the fisherman came out of hiding, as a returned favor the fisherman was made king.
... when he arrived at the fisherman s hut, he learned that Danae and the fisherman had gone into
hiding. As soon as the king of the island had gotten rid of Perseus, he had tried to carry Danae
off. To save her the old fisherman had fled with her. When Perseus heard that, he made straight
for the king s palace. Here is the head you wanted! he shouted, and pulled Medusa s head out of
the bag. Startled the king and his men looked up... (D Aulaire, 120). Secondly, Percy Jackson s
story has the theme of the underdog. In The Legend of Perseus Perseus had only heroic
challenges and he was never compared to anyone else. However, he did have to overcome
challenges and rise up to the task. When Perseus was shipped off in a chest in the sea and was

with lower alcohol (ethanol) levels was undertaken. These comprise technologies to reduce the
initial sugar levels in the grape juice; yeasts to produce less alcohol by diverting sugar metabolism
to glycerol production; and post fermentation technologies to remove some all of the alcohol from
the wine. Some of the legal issues around alcohol taxation and wine labelling are outlined,
particularly those affecting export. The major technologies are discussed, along with their
limitations, particularly with regard to the effects on sensory attributes (aroma and flavour). The
potential for yeast strains with lower conversion efficiencies is outlined, both for selected strains,
for non Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, and for genetic modification. A summary of the

Ponyboy is a greaser, this is because he fits the characteristics of a greaser. For example, all the

Johnny helps Ponyboy feel better a lot of in a lot of conflicts. For instance, getting hit or getting

John Milton s Epic Poem about Satan, Paradise Lost
John milton is one of the most influential men in english writing today because of his outstanding
work. He was an outstanding poet, who wrote poems that were outside the box. A great example
would be one of his most famous pieces Paridise lost, written in blank verse. In paridise lost
Milton concerns the biblical story of the fall of man by using Adam and Eveas the prime example.
As Paridise lost goes on you can definetly start to notice that he puts one specific character ahead
of all others and thats Satan. I believe miltons hero is Satan because of the way he talks about
Satan in the epic poem. When the epic poem is read it sounds as if Milton ecourges the behavior of
Satan.
I Believe Milton considers Satan to be the hero, or protagonist, of the story, because he struggles
to overcome his own doubts and weaknesses and accomplishes his goal of corrupting humankind.
Satan is a very complex character in the epic poem. I belive Milton considers Satan as his hero
because he want Satan to seem heroic and appealing early in the poem to draw us into
sympathizing with him against our will, so that we may see how seductive evil is and learn to
be more vigilant in resisting its appeal. Milton devotes much of the poem s early books to
developing Satan s character. Satan s character changes significantly from Book I to his final
appearance in Book X. In Book I he is a strong, imposing figure with great abilities as a leader and
public statesmen, whereas by the poem s end he

The Planning Function of Management
Most companies have a vision, mission statement, and a set of core values. These three things are
normally made up by a group of senior managers or a leadership team. Once these three things are
decided upon, the upper management or leadership team should deliver the information to the
management below them, so the important information is delivered to all levels of employees
within the company. After the these three things have been set, most companies will post their
vision, mission statement and core values somewhere for all employees to see. Often time s new
employees are given copies of these three things in orientation or on their first day of work. Coming

Again, this is a way of planning that requires the participation of all levels of management.
Operational planning is used mostly by lower level or front line managers. These are the routine
tasks of scheduling, human resource tasks, and daily statistics which are looked at when
planning for future staffing and projects. Although these tasks are carried out by lower level
management or supervisors, they upper management still has a say in these tasks. The upper
level management or leadership team more than likely made those tasks as a part of the
employees daily routine; so again, all hands of management play a roll in the operational
planning as well. Contingency planning tends to be the one that is discussed the least.
Contingency planning is very important in most companies, as this is where the safety and
disaster planning comes into play. These plans are made by all levels of management as well as
employees who are non managers. Each department knows its own needs when it comes to its
contingency plans, it is important to have all employees involved in the planning. For example, a
fire drill plan; all the employees know where the closest exit to their workspace is, and they can
all agree to find a common meeting place outside of the building. This is not a plan that has to be
done by a specific level of management. There has to be some management oversight, but all the
department employees need to be in

The Use Of Technology In Neil Postman s Brave New World
The invention of technology has made life easier but has it really helped? Neil Postman s
writing AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH from 1985 brings up the concern about the use of
new technology and how it s negatively affecting our society. Neil Postman s unique and very
fitting title AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH helps to portray what Postman tries to
explain through this writing. Postman also uses two authors Orwell who s the author of
Nineteen Eighty Four and Huxley s who is the author of Brave New World . The transition from
the market of ideas to the market of images that technology has made. Postman writing
AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH conveys valid points about technology and the affect it
has on society but it s debatable whether technology is good or bad. Postman s use of Orwell and
Huxley to show that there can be a problem but two different reasons to why that has become a
problem. The problem being that Postman believes that with the use of technology, we as a
society will become useless. How does Orwell and Huxley fit into this well What Orwell feared
were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban
a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Postman 14). Orwell believe that
someone like a dictator that would take away or ability to think and learn and we wouldn t have
control over it. Huxley believes that we would lose our will to want to learn. As how does this

Zombies And The Horror Genre
In modern times, zombies saturate popular culture and have become a mainstay in the cinematic
world. Many people view zombies as a purely fictional creation with little purpose beyond merely
providing entertainment for the duration of the movie. However, this view of zombies misses
their true original purpose, a purpose which they still serve today. Zombies were not created as
arbitrary fictional characters, but rather as monsters with meaning (Blumberg). Zombies serve
as an outlet for people to process their biggest fears in the world around them. Zombies and the
horror genre have become a modern cinematic expression of people s deepest fears, fears that
evolve over time as people change. The general concept of zombies as we know them today
originated in the 1910s with the silent French film J accuse. This film helped to show the horrors
of the war and the pain inflicted upon the French people. To the modern viewer however, the view
of zombies in this film would appear to be strange and very different monsters from what they are
used to seeing. In fact, many people would not consider it a zombiemovie at all, but rather a movie
that had many elements that later would contribute to the development of zombies. The zombies in
the film are seemingly real people and reflect the horrors that the French faced during the war.
While this idea of zombies does not remain, the concept that zombies reflect people s biggest fears
remain. While the zombies in J accuse were one

Causes Of Migration In The World Economy Of 1870-1914
Although I explained the occurrence of wage difference between Europe and the new world,
having only one data of evidence is just not enough. As an economic student, further information
is needed to support the argument in the above paragraph. Since we already know income in the
new world would increase over the period of 1870 to 1914, I would like to investigate the cause
of it, why was it increasing when mass migration started and the population in the new world
(US here at an example) began to grow rapidly. Based on the numbers provided in Table 1
(Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version].
, 129(3), 1 10.), US experienced positive immigrations from all the sending countries in Europe,
which confirmed that the population of the emigration received was indeed growing and led to
the overall population growth. If the US population was growing, what happened to the real
wage? Let me form a simple economic model with only downward sloping demand and upward
sloping supply for both US and one of a European nation. At, equilibrium their intersection
determines the real wage. Since we are talking about migration, let us assume we only have human
movement between two nations. Machine and capitals are excluded by this analysis. By looking at
TableA2 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic
version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), we know that almost all European countries have higher population

Capitalism And Free Market Capitalism
For this assignment we are asked to explain free market capitalism. First of all, capitalism has its
own meaning while free market does too. Capitalism defines as an economic system based on
ownership of factors of produce (Nickolas, 2017). The primary tactics of capitalism is when the
owners compete with one another along with motivates a general profit by its private owner
without any outside companies interference of outside sale forces (Nickolas, 2017).
Free market plays a role by producing and pricing the products/services. Basically, this is what
free market is all about! Free market is an economic system that you use strictly for supply and
demand with or without the small aspects of government regulations. In this process, generally the
buyer and the seller makes deals freely and only when coming to an agreement on the price of a
product and or service.
Capitalism is the center of interest to create wealth. Also, too, fabricate gains ownerships of
capital and factors of producing versus to free market. Free Market also focuses on wealth,
products, and services. One requirement of capitalism is that it requires a free market economic
system to bring in success. If a free market follow and adhere to all regulations it can potentially
become one of the most unique agents of collective human progress.
The United States has fully lived up to John Kenneth Galbraith s observation half a century ago
that modern U.S. capitalism generates private wealth and public squalor (Foster et al.,
2017).Capitalism has served us enormously well. Yet while it has helped to reduce global poverty
and expand access to health care and education, it has come at an enormous cost: unsustainable
levels of public and private debt, excessive consumerism, and, frankly, too many people who are
left behind. Any system that prevents large numbers of people from fully participating or excludes
them altogether will ultimately be rejected. And that s what you see happening. People are asking,
What are we doing here? (McKinsey Company, 2017).
Creative Capitalism is a systematic approach to government businesses (Nickolas, 2017). In which,
it is a nonprofit organization that works as a team to broaden market shifts. In this

Comparsion Of Adam And Eve In The Book Of Genesis
Inthe book of Genesis God reveals himself to Adam after he ate the forbidden fruit. God knew
that Adam and Eve had disobeyed him and disobedience leads to sin and sin leads to death and
so that is why he came by to see what they had done. Whenever we sin, God speaks to us through
the Holy Spirit and let us know what we had done and he calls us to repent, however, we all know
that if we don t repent then we will bring judgement on ourselves.
According to the Bible, the Lord God took man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and
to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou may
freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the
day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis. 2:15 17 King James Version). This is
important because God had told Adam the way in which he should live and the way he could
also die. He was given the task to rule over the Garden of even, but there was just one thing he
could not do. Adam was not to eat fruit of the tree of knowledge, because his life would be taken
away. By Adam being disobedient, us as humans are now living in a world filled with sin.... Show

Can we follow the art of Courtly Love today?
De Amore, written by Andreas Capellanus is a treatise about the art of courtly love. Douglas Kelly,
in his article mentions that, This disconcerting treatise provides us with the only true art of courtly
love that we possess, but it also contains a very harsh attack against love. The antithetical attitude
towards love is all the more astonishing because Andreas, although a churchman, devoted far more
space to the instruction on how to love and the praise of love than to the attack on it (Kelly, 1968,
p.119).

Therefore, I believe that blind people are better at love than us because they know the true value
of being in love. A lot of times, we take love for granted and feel that it s not hard to find. But we
never understand how hard it is for some people, specially the ones with impairments and how
much one needs to struggle to have someone in their lives who loves them unconditionally.
I completely disagree with the limitations of age to love. I think someone can fall in love when
they are fifty and also when they are fifteen. For example, my aunt was unmarried till she was
fifty two. She just never found someone who she loved deeply but she continued to look for
love. But at the age of fifty two, she met her husband and they fell in love. So, I do not think that
age should be a factor in love. I think a person can fall in love at any time in their lives.
And as far as excess of passion is concerned, I feel that for some people, one woman/man is never
enough and they still might continue to love more than one person. I think it is okay for a person
to constantly shift lovers as long as they find someone who they can love forever and then spend
the rest of their life with that person.
Interviewee 2 from Jaipur, India : First of all, I think that people feel love differently. I disagree
with him when he says that blind people cannot love. I know of many blind people who are in
love. I think they feel love more strongly. This is maybe

Porn and Censorship
Pornography and Censorship
Should the government be allowed to legitimately prohibit citizens from publishing or viewing
pornography, or would this be an unjustified violation of basic freedoms?
Traditionally, liberals defended the freedom of consenting adults to publish and consume
pornography in private from moral and religious conservatives who wanted pornography banned for
its obscenity, its corrupting impact on consumers and its corrosive effect on traditional family and
religious values. But, in more recent times, the pornography debate has taken on a somewhat new
and surprising shape. Some feminists have found themselves allied with their traditional
conservative foes in calling on the state to regulate or prohibit ... Show more content on

Other sexually explicit representations depict acts of violent coercion: people being bound,
whipped, beaten, tortured, penetrated by objects, mutilated, raped and even killed. Some sexually
explicit material may be degrading, without necessarily being overtly violent. This material depicts
people (most often women) in positions of servility and subordination in their sexual relations with
others, or engaged in sexual acts that many people would regard as humiliating. Some sexually
explicit material involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on.
On the first definition of pornography as sexually explicit material, all such material would count
as pornography, insofar as it is sexually explicit. But this simple definition is not quite right.
Anatomy textbooks for medical students are sexually explicit they depict exposed genitalia, for
example but are rarely, if ever, viewed as pornography. Sexual explicitness may be a necessary
condition for material to count as pornographic, but it does not seem to be sufficient. So something
needs to be added to the simple definition. What else might be required?
Here is a second definition. Pornography is sexually explicit material (verbal or pictorial) that is
primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. This definition is better: it deals with the
problem of anatomy textbooks and the like. Indeed, this

Common and Preferred Stock
How do Corporations raise capital? All of the large corporations could not have grown to their
present size without being able to find innovative ways to raise capital to finance ultimate
expansion. There are many ways this can be accomplished, but this review will take a look at just
two ways: the issuance of Preferred Stock and selling of Common Stock. What exactly is a stock,
anyway? Basically, stock is ownership, simple as that. Buy a share of APPLE Inc. and acquire a
tiny sliver of the computer giant, tying the investments fate to that of the Chairman, for better or
worse. This is ownership in the most literal sense: You get a piece of every desk, contract and...

In contrast to a Common Stock, a company may choose to issue Preferred Stock to raise capital.
Preferred Stock represents a hybrid in the sense that it is an equity interest with certain features
resembling debt. Buyers of these shares have special status in the event the underlying company
encounters financial trouble. A typical preferred shareholderdoesn t vote on the composition of the
company s board or other matters. They are more interested in receiving regular dividends, since
these dividends do not fluctuate based on the company s profits; each preferred shareholder is
entitled to a fixed amount at certain periods, just so long as the company has the money to do
so. Dividends are, also, paid to preferred stockholders before they are paid to common
stockholders. Preferred stock is issued with a specific dividend rate. The dividend rate may be
stated as a dollar amount or as a percentage of the par value. When dividends are paid, preferred
stockholders are paid the amount applicable to their class of preferred stock. Several advantages to
issuing preferred stock include: no dilution of management s interest in corporate growth or in
voting power (if non voting preferred stock is issued), and predictable dividend payments and
preferences upon liquidation (for which investors may pay a premium). Although, disadvantages
include: a

Demand And The Price Of Demand
Supply is defined as a stock or amount of something that is available for use; the quantity
supplied of a good or service is an amount that producers plan on selling during a particular time
period at a particular price. (Parkin, 2013) The amount a business can supply does not always
equal the amount sold and so in order for a business to know how much to offer they need to find
out the demand; demand is defined as a particular desire for a commodity, service or other item. It
resembles the amount that customers plan to buy during a certain period of time at a particular
price. (Parkin, 2013)
Firstly, demand represents the popularity of a certain good or service and so has a strong
relationship with the quantity supplied. Price, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This graph represents the supply curve following on from the Law of Supply:
Supply is influenced on factors such as the number of producers for that certain good or service,
technological advances, changes in cost and finally a change in indirect taxes.
Equilibrium is the term used when both the quantity supplied equals the quantity demanded. The
relationship between supply and demand is best described in the work of John Locke: The price of
any commodity rises or falls by the proportion of the number of buyer and sellers and that which
regulates the price... [of goods] is nothing else but their quantity in proportion to their rent. (Locke,
1691) Locke illustrates how prices of things fluctuate depending on the amount there is of them in
proportion to how many there are available; this graph depicts this correlation.
1b) Define and then explain the key drivers of Economic Growth.
Economic Growth is the key indicator of how successful a country is doing in terms of business;
in order to calculate the economic growth of a country in order to analyse and compare we look at

income per year is expressed as Y = C + I + E + G (Investopedia, 2003) where consumer spending,

Japan s Experience Of Defeat And Occupation At The End Of...
Japan s experience of defeat and occupation at the end of the Second World War has most
commonly been examined from the point of view of the conquerors. It has rarely been tackled as
a Japanese experience. John Dower attempts to understand the hopes, visions and dreams of the
defeated Japanese as they sought to remake their identity and values in the after the war. Dower
examines an array of responses from the Japanese perspective to find out how they are feeling after
the war. Dower places the Japanese against the background of an American Occupation which was
at once high minded and visionary, arrogant and imperialist. Dower tackles this theme through two

Secondly as an observer, he maintains a deep sympathy for his subjects while still preserving an
appropriately sharp and critical moral sense as he navigates through their stories. Dower s
cultural history begins with the anguish of physically and materially shattered lives at war s
end. The shock, devastation, exhaustion and despair are listed to provide the reader a detailed
narration of the events. The depth of loss and confusion which the Japanese people experienced
is vividly conveyed, notably in Dower s accounts of the huge scale of social displacement and
missing persons, and the long drawn out period of food droughts. Against this background of
economic and social misery, however, Dower is also concerned to locate the effects of defeat on
the Japanese people. Even in the pits of despair, people were reshaping their future identity and
discovering new aspirations. Dower tackles this at three levels. First, he investigates the
subcultures of defeat. The world of prostitution under the Occupation, for example was
simultaneously an area of sexual exploitation and a channel for the growth of interracial affection
and the undermining of old racial stereotypes. It was a symbol of national shame and a conduit for
new American values of luxury, and materialism that were eagerly embraced. Likewise, the black
markets were both explosions of entrepreneurial energy and a site for violent criminal gangs. And a

Eucalyptus Trees In The Age Of Miracles
In the novel The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, there is a main theme of coping with
uncertainty and disaster. All of the characters do this in their own unique ways some through rituals
and other through hope. The eucalyptus tree is abundant in the main character Julia s home town.
The eucalyptus tree is a very familiar symbol for Julia and everyone who lives near her. Instances
involving the eucalyptus are spread throughout the noveland help to solidify the theme of coping
with the disaster and change through familiarity and rituals. The novel The Age of Miracles is
set in California and starts as the earth is experiencing a new slower rotation called The Slowing

The eucalyptus was introduced to California around the 1950 s and was seen as a potential new
lumber and would help save the lumber industry (Walker 1 304). However, it was later
discovered that the tree was not a miracle or a cure for the lumber problems and was not a viable
source of lumber, which was a huge disappointment (Farmer 18 22). Although they eventually
discovered it was not a useful lumber wood it had been planted all over the state and became a
familiar symbol for the people of California (Farmer 18 22). The use of the eucalyptus tree in the
novel parallels the hope and eventual loss of hope that the tree symbolized for the California
lumber industry. Long before the trees eventually start getting sick and dying off, Julia mentions
them around all the major points of the novel. I believe it helps her feel like the changes are not
as serious or permanent as they are and that as long as she can see the trees there is hope of things

  • 2. Gears and Simple Machines Gears are part of one of the six simple machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines, such as the wheel and axle, are mechanisms created to make difficult work much easier. The six simple machines consist of the inclined plane, screw, lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel and axle. Gears can be found in many household items today. For example, watches, bicycles, and pencil sharpeners. The most common object, in which gears are found, is the car. The car s steering wheel is a simple machine, called the wheel and axle. Gears however, are not found in the steering wheel, but are located in the engine. The gears are then controlled by the gear shift, which spins the gears around, causing the car to move or brake. Gears are circular objects that have teeth all around the outer rim, or just a wheel with teeth. When in movement, if a singular gear s teeth fit into a second gear, it will cause that second gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the first gear. This can then be continued by adding more gears, which in turn create a system of gears. A gear system can be used to function a machine, such as car s gear shift. This system is called a gear train. Whichever gear starts the gear train by rotating is called the driver. The final gear on the opposite end of the train is called the driven gear. Meshed Gears is a gear train of five or more gears. There are many other gear types such as Spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears, rack gears, and internal gears. All these gears are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Goal Setting And Attainment Unit One Essay Goal setting and attainment appears to be a straightforward proposal. You simply come up with an obtainable goal and then you work hard to make it a reality. To begin with I give myself short term and long term goals to achieve. Before I joined the Army my short term goal was to achieve the rank of Sergeant (E 5). My next short term goal wasn t to just achieve the next rank of Staff Sergeant (E 6) I wanted to aim a little higher and make Sergeant First Class (E 7) within eight years, which I did. My long term goal was to ultimately make it to the rank of Sergeant major (E 9). This goal is going to be harder to achieve, but I know as long as I work hard I will achieve that goal. Goals are great, but without follow through these goals will never come to fruition. By breaking down goals into smaller goals a person will gain confidence and can eventually turn those small term goals in long term goals. I knew that I could not just jump to Sergeant Major and that s why I set small short term goals to achieve that rank. What is going to make me successful not only in my career, but also in my everyday life is accomplishing one short term goal at a time. To obtain a Goal it requires steps or processes to achieve the desired outcome which, according to Tim Harford, includes failure. In Tim Harford s book Adapt he accepts that in the path to success don t be afraid to fail in the process. The consequence of disappointment makes versatility, which is a key ... • 6. Naturalization Of Immigration Essay Though these recent initiatives have attempted to facilitate naturalization for undocumented immigrants in the U.S., there is more to be done. Significant opposition exists, however, in the duration of the Obama administration, more immigrant friendly bills have reached Congress with greater popularity than before, and this recent turnaround in policies can be linked to the release of many studies showing the positive effects of immigration. Even with the widely popularized argument that immigrants in the United Statescause failings in society, there are a multitude of benefits the federal government can derive through streamlining naturalization for illegal immigrants. Keeping up these walls, both physical and legal, between immigrants and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These blocks are unnecessary, especially when immigration is a profitable system. As Peter Duignan succinctly states, ...the United States, thanks to immigration, has a growing population. Immigrant labor, moreover, keeps prices, supplies, and services available and cheap ( Immigrants and America, February 2004). Having a large pool of workers is always a good thing, both for keeping costs low and for encouraging competition in the market. Many current laws also bring about moral issues, like the underlying racism found in several infamous laws and the countless number of families being torn apart through deportation. Economists, politicians, and government officials all support immigration for these three basic reasons. By easing the process of naturalization for undocumented immigrants, several fiscal disadvantages can be avoided. One simple effect is the decrease in deportation rates (Duignan, et al., Immigrants and America ). Logically, Duignan explains that when naturalization is made simpler, fewer immigrants remain undocumented in the long run. The cost of deporting immigrants is a heavy weight on the American fiscal system, ranging from thirty to over sixty billion dollars per year, spent on identifying illegal aliens, ... • 7. Benefits Of A Successful Business In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and showing appreciation. When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return. Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb). By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform better at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. • 8. Essay on The Catholic Religion The world has more than one billion Catholics and with the ever growing population, it will only get larger in number. To be a Catholic means to have complete faith in God and his divine grace. Having God s divine grace means to obey it and keep it holy as it was created by God and given to his people. The religion itself is based on this and the people take it very seriously. Catholics believe that all people are of good nature but when one commits a sin it not only hurts that one person but the people and the Church. Catholics are a Christian sect and believe in one God. Catholics incorporation their religion into everything since God created everything. The things one says, the things one do, and even one s thoughts are under God. • 9. Poverty In A Raisin In The Sun Economic and societal poverty are the key forms of poverty highlighted in the three act play, A Raisin in the Sun. Lorraine Hansberry, the playwright, discusses the hardships of African Americans attempting to emerge in society in the 1950 s. The play is staged in ways where the audience can grasp the trifles of an African American family continuously experiencing setbacks whilst attempting to achieve their notion of the American Dream . To Walter Lee Younger, his idea of the American Dream is that anything is possible for those who have money. Unfortunately, there is a minor problem: Walter Lee Younger is a working class African American man who struggles to make ends meet in the Southside of Chicago, Illinois. The family undergoes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He fails to consider the stepping stones that are necessary in earning money. In The Politics of Home in Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun, Kristin Matthews said: This literal home mirrors the psycho social struggle of mid century African Americans to attain, secure, and define a sense of place, or home, in the face of systemic socio economic racism (Matthews). The play opens with Ruth Younger waking up her son, Travis, for school. By this point, the audience can see poverty already. To put it into context, Ruth woke up and is walking through the living room that has been worn and it is visible that the furniture has been supporting too many people for too many years (Hansberry, 998) and she tries to wake up Travis, who is seen sleeping on the sofa. The house is crowded to the point where Walter and Ruth Younger s son is in a situation where the only place to sleep is the sofa. That is a sign of economic poverty, simply because the family cannot afford to live in a place where their son has a bedroom. The house is an apartment that homes: Lena Mama , Walter, Ruth, Travis, and Beneatha Younger. It is a two bedroom unit housing five people. There, again, is a sign of economic poverty, because this is a family that cannot support themselves to live in an adequate setting. The mere fact that three generations need to share a living ... The part of the story that turned me into what I became. I was one of those girls who developed at a faster rate than the others. By the time I was a freshman my bra size was a 36C. As I stepped through the doors of school that year, I noticed the stares I got from all the guys. Warnings my mother had told me rang in my ears, all the want is one thing. I stopped going to school and moved in with a guy named Royce. He was a drug dealer and he kept me in good supply. My life meant nothing to me anymore I was a void. I needed a way to get money so I turned to prostitution, but nobody wanted a messed up ugly girl like me. I was skin and bones and I could see it I just didn t have the strength to stop myself. At the beginning of the story, her husband s friend Richards and her sister Josephine informed Mrs. Mallard that a railroad accident had killed her husband. After she had received the news, she then went by herself in her room alone (Chopin 337). The story then goes on to say, When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it repeatedly under her breath: free, free, free! When informed about her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard is unaware to the beauty of life breaks down under the powerful impact of emotion. She thinks it worthless to continue her existence (Jamil 216). In the story the narrator states, It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long (Chopin 338). The narrator also points that Mrs. Mallard is not struck, as many women have been, by a paralyzed inability to accept the painful sense of loss. This storm that haunts her body seems to reach her soul ultimately purges her of the sufferance of a meaningless life, as it becomes motivation that leads to her new freedom (Jamil 216). Mrs. Mallard s heart trouble is not so much a physical disorder like the characters of the story think. It actually is a sign of a woman who has surrendered her heart to the culture of paternalism. The physiological outlook of her heart condition looks as if a result of the burden of allowing an individual s powerful will to overlook and smother her own will. Mrs. Mallard set aside the social aspect of the world and allowed her individuality to develop (Jamil 216). Throughout the story, the narrator says a monstrous joy and Free! Body and soul free! which shows us her new emotional freedom is awakening her mind (Jamil 217). Chopin shows that through Mrs. Mallard watching the nature and engaging in ... Most of the debt seen by households was in the form of mortgages, and loans against people s mortgages. There was no close investigation of instances where drill sergeants had beaten their wives, which was a particular problem with some of the accused at the Aberd een Proving Ground. The military s position is that the problems of sexual harassment int eh military can be attributed to a lack of leadership, detailed in two army investigations (Barry and Thomas 49; Schitt A1, A19). Opponents of the military s lack fo leadership reasoning believe the problems lie in how the military environment facilitates sexual harassment, in addition to making it difficult for women to resist or report instances of sexual advanes. They fee l the creed of drill sergeants, the power of the military structure, and the fat that military women can not just walk away from their jobs contributes to drill sergeants having powers over women that result in sexual harassment. These issues are explain ed by civilian psychiatrist Major Elsbeth Ritchie in testimony at the court martial of a drill sergeant from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England. The world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to their own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. Englandhad left Irelandstarving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays intending to spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not respond. Terry Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to action Swift in actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature provided the humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the vicarious experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss, as Derrida would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating an uprising the structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton said, If masses are not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades. • 21. Environmental And Environmental Issues During The... Environmental Issues and the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution took pace from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period when rural areas became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, engineering was mainly done in people s homes. They used hand tools and sometimes basic machines. Industrialization put an end to that, using powered, advanced machinery, factories and mass production. This made engineering much faster, easier and more efficient. It even increased the amount of factory made goods, as well as the variety of them. Industrialization improved the living conditions for people in the middle and upper classes. The poor and working classes had to do the dangerous jobs, for a very low amount of pay, while working in harmful conditions. So many people from the rural areas were moving to the urban areas for work, that they couldn t keep up. This caused overpopulation. Homes were overcrowded, and people were living in polluted and unsanitary conditions, which made them more at risk of diseases. Pollution is one of the most environmentally negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution. Air, water, and soil pollution were extremely bad during the Industrial Revolution. Industrialization polluted the air, water and soils due to the waste products that factories generate. Most factories and industries require water for their work. When water is involved in these processes, it encounters metals, chemicals, and wastes, that will contaminate it. They are then dumped into oceans and rivers. Doing so, kills fish and other sea animals, decreasing the population. Farmers us this water to grow their crops. Using contaminated water then affects the quality of their crops. When the farmers use the water in their soil, it can cause soil pollution. This pollution will destroy plants if anything or anyone comes in contact with it, it can cause long lasting health issues. Air pollution can cause a variety of illnesses for people and the environment. With all of these pollutions, there comes an increase in global warming. Global warming causes glaciers to melt, extinction of animals, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes, which are some of the deadliest natural phenomena. If any of these phenomena ... • 23. Discrimination And Discrimination America s prison incarceration rate has increased by over 600%. This outlandish statistic leaves America with the largest incarceration rate in the world. (Pager 2003) As of right now, one third of the population has a criminal record of some sort (Barraza 2016). The issue of incarceration doesn t stop with alarming numbers, however. A damaging amount of stigma is attached to those that have a criminal record. Having a record essentially becomes an automatic stamp of dismissal from American society; you are barred from, or severely limited in your ability to, gain meaningful employment, pay for higher education, or, in some cases, be banned from housing altogether. In 2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that they would now be expanding the protections of the Fair Housing Act to restrict the blanket denial of housing to those with criminal records (2016). To better understand the content of this newer policy, the social conditions that made it necessary, and the impact it can have on inequality, having an understanding of sociological concepts such as approaches to community based discrimination, de facto segregation, steering practices, total discrimination, and the benefits of integration is essential. The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed to prevent the same discrimination we seem to be suffocating in today. The purpose of the act was to make it unlawful to deny access to housing based on the race, color, religion, or national origin (Yinger 1999). Later, the act would be amended to included protected parties such as disabled people, for example. Almost 50 years after the original act was signed into law, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is making a change to expand, or at least specifically acknowledge and included, those that have a criminal record. The press release made by a department representative explicitly states, Under this standard, a facially neutral policy or practice that has a discriminatory effect violates the Act if it is not supported by a legally sufficient justification. Thus, where a policy or practice that restricts access to housing on the basis of criminal history has a disparate impact on individuals of a particular race, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prosocial Behavior And Human Social Life Tandis Moghadam 1 May 2015 Prosocial Behavior in Great Apes Prosocial behaviors are a huge aspect to human social life; it involves helping, encouraging, and/or sharing information. Sympathy and empathy are the main characteristics for prosocial behaviors. Sympathy portrays feelings of pity and compassion for someone else s ill fortune, while empathy means having the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Sympathy and empathy are known to be crucial skills needed to keep up with the complicated social life of humans. People who are sympathetic or empathic are commonly more prone to act in prosocial ways and commonly less prone to convey antisocial behaviors (i.e aggression). People have argued that humans are the only species that show selfless behaviors, while others have proposed that it is impossible for selfless behaviors to only be in humans. In article by Katja Liebal, Amrisha Vaish, Daniel Haun, and Michael Tomasello called, Does Sympathy Motivate Prosocial Behaviour in Great Apes? , these researchers studied whether the prosocial behavior of four species of great apes (orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos) is provoked by sympathy for others. Annabeth stood behind him... We can t leave you alone for five minutes! What happened? I sort of fell. Percy! Six hundred and thirty feet? ( Riordan, 217)Percy used brains over brawn because he had to think quickly to escape a dangerous situation. Perseus, after returning with his new wife to be and Medusa s head, learned that the king tried to take Danae after Percy left, so the fishermen fled with her and went into hiding. Perseus went to the king and used his intuition to bring out the head and show him so then the king turned to stone as well. By thinking quick Perseus killed the king, his mother and the fisherman came out of hiding, as a returned favor the fisherman was made king. ... when he arrived at the fisherman s hut, he learned that Danae and the fisherman had gone into hiding. As soon as the king of the island had gotten rid of Perseus, he had tried to carry Danae off. To save her the old fisherman had fled with her. When Perseus heard that, he made straight for the king s palace. Here is the head you wanted! he shouted, and pulled Medusa s head out of the bag. Startled the king and his men looked up... (D Aulaire, 120). Secondly, Percy Jackson s story has the theme of the underdog. In The Legend of Perseus Perseus had only heroic challenges and he was never compared to anyone else. Abstract A review of the main technologies currently available to produce wines with lower alcohol (ethanol) levels was undertaken. These comprise technologies to reduce the initial sugar levels in the grape juice; yeasts to produce less alcohol by diverting sugar metabolism to glycerol production; and post fermentation technologies to remove some all of the alcohol from the wine. Some of the legal issues around alcohol taxation and wine labelling are outlined, particularly those affecting export. The major technologies are discussed, along with their limitations, particularly with regard to the effects on sensory attributes (aroma and flavour). The potential for yeast strains with lower conversion efficiencies is outlined, both for selected strains, for non Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, and for genetic modification. Allegra Goodman s La Vita Nuova records the changed life of a freshly dumped bride to be. As she endures her altered life, Amanda occupies herself by babysitting her student Nathaniel. Amanda uses irony, dark humor, and juxtaposition as a coping mechanism; instead of facing the new life she has to live, she uses sardonic reflection to elongate her mourning period. When Amanda digs up memories of her ex fiancГ©, her timing and choice of anecdote help her wallow in rejection for longer. Reflecting on her breakup, she says We had too many differences... He was an outstanding poet, who wrote poems that were outside the box. A great example would be one of his most famous pieces Paridise lost, written in blank verse. In paridise lost Milton concerns the biblical story of the fall of man by using Adam and Eveas the prime example. As Paridise lost goes on you can definetly start to notice that he puts one specific character ahead of all others and thats Satan. I believe miltons hero is Satan because of the way he talks about Satan in the epic poem. When the epic poem is read it sounds as if Milton ecourges the behavior of Satan. I Believe Milton considers Satan to be the hero, or protagonist, of the story, because he struggles to overcome his own doubts and weaknesses and accomplishes his goal of corrupting humankind. Satan is a very complex character in the epic poem. I belive Milton considers Satan as his hero because he want Satan to seem heroic and appealing early in the poem to draw us into sympathizing with him against our will, so that we may see how seductive evil is and learn to be more vigilant in resisting its appeal. Milton devotes much of the poem s early books to developing Satan s character. Satan s character changes significantly from Book I to his final appearance in Book X. Neil Postman s unique and very fitting title AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH helps to portray what Postman tries to explain through this writing. • 42. Zombies And The Horror Genre In modern times, zombies saturate popular culture and have become a mainstay in the cinematic world. Many people view zombies as a purely fictional creation with little purpose beyond merely providing entertainment for the duration of the movie. However, this view of zombies misses their true original purpose, a purpose which they still serve today. Zombies were not created as arbitrary fictional characters, but rather as monsters with meaning (Blumberg). Zombies serve as an outlet for people to process their biggest fears in the world around them. Zombies and the horror genre have become a modern cinematic expression of people s deepest fears, fears that evolve over time as people change. The general concept of zombies as we know them today originated in the 1910s with the silent French film J accuse. This film helped to show the horrors of the war and the pain inflicted upon the French people. To the modern viewer however, the view of zombies in this film would appear to be strange and very different monsters from what they are used to seeing. In fact, many people would not consider it a zombiemovie at all, but rather a movie that had many elements that later would contribute to the development of zombies. Causes Of Migration In The World Economy Of 1870-1914 Although I explained the occurrence of wage difference between Europe and the new world, having only one data of evidence is just not enough. As an economic student, further information is needed to support the argument in the above paragraph. Since we already know income in the new world would increase over the period of 1870 to 1914, I would like to investigate the cause of it, why was it increasing when mass migration started and the population in the new world (US here at an example) began to grow rapidly. Based on the numbers provided in Table 1 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), US experienced positive immigrations from all the sending countries in Europe, which confirmed that the population of the emigration received was indeed growing and led to the overall population growth. If the US population was growing, what happened to the real wage? Let me form a simple economic model with only downward sloping demand and upward sloping supply for both US and one of a European nation. At, equilibrium their intersection determines the real wage. Since we are talking about migration, let us assume we only have human movement between two nations. Machine and capitals are excluded by this analysis. By looking at TableA2 (Heitger, B. • 44. Capitalism And Free Market Capitalism For this assignment we are asked to explain free market capitalism. First of all, capitalism has its own meaning while free market does too. Capitalism defines as an economic system based on ownership of factors of produce (Nickolas, 2017). The primary tactics of capitalism is when the owners compete with one another along with motivates a general profit by its private owner without any outside companies interference of outside sale forces (Nickolas, 2017). Free market plays a role by producing and pricing the products/services. Basically, this is what free market is all about! Free market is an economic system that you use strictly for supply and demand with or without the small aspects of government regulations. In this process, generally the buyer and the seller makes deals freely and only when coming to an agreement on the price of a product and or service. Capitalism is the center of interest to create wealth. Also, too, fabricate gains ownerships of capital and factors of producing versus to free market. Free Market also focuses on wealth, products, and services. One requirement of capitalism is that it requires a free market economic system to bring in success. If a free market follow and adhere to all regulations it can potentially become one of the most unique agents of collective human progress. The United States has fully lived up to John Kenneth Galbraith s observation half a century ago that modern U.S. capitalism generates private wealth and public squalor (Foster et al., 2017).Capitalism has served us enormously well. Yet while it has helped to reduce global poverty and expand access to health care and education, it has come at an enormous cost: unsustainable levels of public and private debt, excessive consumerism, and, frankly, too many people who are left behind. Any system that prevents large numbers of people from fully participating or excludes them altogether will ultimately be rejected. And that s what you see happening. People are asking, What are we doing here? (McKinsey Company, 2017). Creative Capitalism is a systematic approach to government businesses (Nickolas, 2017). God knew that Adam and Eve had disobeyed him and disobedience leads to sin and sin leads to death and so that is why he came by to see what they had done. Whenever we sin, God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit and let us know what we had done and he calls us to repent, however, we all know that if we don t repent then we will bring judgement on ourselves. According to the Bible, the Lord God took man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou may freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis. 2:15 17 King James Version). This is important because God had told Adam the way in which he should live and the way he could also die. He was given the task to rule over the Garden of even, but there was just one thing he could not do. Adam was not to eat fruit of the tree of knowledge, because his life would be taken away. (Locke, 1691) Locke illustrates how prices of things fluctuate depending on the amount there is of them in proportion to how many there are available; this graph depicts this correlation. 1b) Define and then explain the key drivers of Economic Growth. Economic Growth is the key indicator of how successful a country is doing in terms of business; in order to calculate the economic growth of a country in order to analyse and compare we look at the measurement of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The formula for calculating this national income per year is expressed as Y = C + I + E + G (Investopedia, 2003) where consumer spending, industry investment, excess of exports over imports and ... • 50. Japan s Experience Of Defeat And Occupation At The End Of... Japan s experience of defeat and occupation at the end of the Second World War has most commonly been examined from the point of view of the conquerors. It has rarely been tackled as a Japanese experience. John Dower attempts to understand the hopes, visions and dreams of the defeated Japanese as they sought to remake their identity and values in the after the war. Dower examines an array of responses from the Japanese perspective to find out how they are feeling after the war. Dower places the Japanese against the background of an American Occupation which was at once high minded and visionary, arrogant and imperialist. Dower tackles this theme through two narratives. The first is a dense socio cultural history, focused on the first two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly as an observer, he maintains a deep sympathy for his subjects while still preserving an appropriately sharp and critical moral sense as he navigates through their stories. Dower s cultural history begins with the anguish of physically and materially shattered lives at war s end. The shock, devastation, exhaustion and despair are listed to provide the reader a detailed narration of the events. The depth of loss and confusion which the Japanese people experienced is vividly conveyed, notably in Dower s accounts of the huge scale of social displacement and missing persons, and the long drawn out period of food droughts. Against this background of economic and social misery, however, Dower is also concerned to locate the effects of defeat on the Japanese people. Even in the pits of despair, people were reshaping their future identity and discovering new aspirations. Dower tackles this at three levels. First, he investigates the subcultures of defeat. The world of prostitution under the Occupation, for example was simultaneously an area of sexual exploitation and a channel for the growth of interracial affection and the undermining of old racial stereotypes. It was a symbol of national shame and a conduit for new American values of luxury, and materialism that were eagerly embraced. Likewise, the black markets were both explosions of entrepreneurial energy and a site for violent criminal gangs. And a new urban demimonde ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Eucalyptus Trees In The Age Of Miracles In the novel The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, there is a main theme of coping with uncertainty and disaster. All of the characters do this in their own unique ways some through rituals and other through hope. The eucalyptus tree is abundant in the main character Julia s home town. The eucalyptus tree is a very familiar symbol for Julia and everyone who lives near her. Instances involving the eucalyptus are spread throughout the noveland help to solidify the theme of coping with the disaster and change through familiarity and rituals. The novel The Age of Miracles is set in California and starts as the earth is experiencing a new slower rotation called The Slowing (Walker 1 304). This change is the earth s rotation is causing changes in the length of days and changes in gravity (Walker 1 304). Therefore it will also end up causing problems growing food and will eventually effect the health of the planet s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The eucalyptus was introduced to California around the 1950 s and was seen as a potential new lumber and would help save the lumber industry (Walker 1 304). However, it was later discovered that the tree was not a miracle or a cure for the lumber problems and was not a viable source of lumber, which was a huge disappointment (Farmer 18 22). Although they eventually discovered it was not a useful lumber wood it had been planted all over the state and became a familiar symbol for the people of California (Farmer 18 22). The use of the eucalyptus tree in the novel parallels the hope and eventual loss of hope that the tree symbolized for the California lumber industry. Long before the trees eventually start getting sick and dying off, Julia mentions them around all the major points of the novel. I believe it helps her feel like the changes are not as serious or permanent as they are and that as long as she can see the trees there is hope of things returning back to ...
