2. Electronic Mail
• Email stands for Electronic Mail.
• It is a fast and convenient way to communicate way to communicate
with others via Internet.
• Everyday, people using the Internet send each other billions of email
messages.
• Email has become am extremely popular medium of communication
nowadays.
• You can send mail to any person with an email address.
• You can receive an email message , you can forward it to others without
replying it.
• You can send , reply and forward an email.

• A file send along with an email message is called an
attachment.

4. Email Server
• A mail server is a computer that serves
as an electronic post office for email.
• The email exchanged across networks is
passed between mail servers that run
specially designed software and follow
standardized protocol for handling mail
messages and attachment files.

5. Email Address
To send and receive your emails you need to create an email
account. This account can be accessed by using an email
address. This address is a combination of a username and a
hostname
abc@gmail.com
The username
It can be any name
given by the user.
Hostname
It is the name of the email server
that provides email services.

6. Advantages of Email
• Convenient
• Speed
• Cost
• Bulk data can be sent

7. Limitations of Email
• Unwanted emails
• Privacy concerns
• False representation of identity
