Two Party System in U.S. Essay example
The reemergence of the two party system in America during the early to mid 1800s was due
greatly to the battles for states rights and the economic issues of the time. These two topics were
closely associated with each other and they helped contributed to the political struggle between the
Democrats and the Whigs. The political divisions had occurred one part due to Jackson s veto of
the re chartering of the Bank of the United States, the Tariff of Abominations, and the disastrous
effects the Panic of 1837 had on the economy. Jackson s veto of the Maysville Road Bill and South
Carolina s nullification of the Tariff of Abominations had an enormous effect on the separations of
political support as they pertained to states rights. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many harsh criticisms were formed about his plan and as a result, the conflict between the Whigs
and Democrats stiffened and increased the dissection between the two. These economic changes
helped to create political divisions, which ultimately led to a distinct two party system. Many
politicians also made attempts to either increase states rights or to increase those of the federal
government. The debate over states rights led to a further division in political ideologies and
consequently strengthened the two party system. One such debate was over the Maysville Road
Bill. When Jackson vetoed the bill to appropriate federal funds to repair an interstate road, it marked
an enormous setback for nationalism and also the American System. His states rights partiality
angered Henry Clay and other believers in the American system because the veto attacked one of
the major components of the system, a strong infrastructure including roads. Another issue dealing
with the rights of the state governments that divided the nation political was South Carolina s
Ordinance of Nullification. In reaction to the burden that the Tariff of Abominations placed upon
the farmers of South Carolina, the state utilized its right to nullify the federal law. In nullifying the
tariff, South Carolina took a bold step to declare its governmental rights. Jackson s hostile reaction
to the South Carolinians created a growing political division, strengthening the imminent separation

Analgesic Pain Management
MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE PAIN
The choice of the pain management strategies depends on different factors including the site and
the nature of the surgery, type and intensity of pain, co morbidities and the ongoing clinical
condition of the patient.
As described earlier, whilst satisfactory pain relief is essential for the recovery of the critically ill
patients, care should be exercised to ensure that the analgesic techniques do not deteriorate the
condition (e.g. hypotension with epidural, respiratory depression with opioids, renal impairment
with Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]).
The management options can grossly be categorised to:
1.Analgesic medications (Paracetamol, NSAIDs, Opioids etc.)
2.Regional analgesic techniques (Local Anaesthetics +/ Opioids)
Commonly, a combination of medications / local anaesthetic techniques is employed for safe and
effect pain relief. The World Health Organisation analgesic ladder was introduced to improve cancer
pain control. The concept is extrapolated to other pain conditions as well as the intensity of the pain
increases, the complexity of the interventions also increase.
1.Step 1: Simple analgesics (Paracetamol +/ NSAIDs)
2.Step 2: Weak Opioids (such as Codeine) +/ Simple analgesics
3.Step 3: Stronger Opioids (such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
where nerves are injured), conventional analgesics may not provide satisfactory relief. The issue is
further compounded if the patient has past history of chronic pain. Regional analgesic techniques
(discussed below) can help. When traditional interventions fail, co analgesics such as
anticonvulsants (e.g. gabapentin), antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) or Ketamine (5 10 mg per
hour intravenous infusion) may be used. It is prudent to seek help from the hospital acute pain
team prior to embarking on less conventional approaches to manage

The Theory And Theory Of Psychology
Overview The practice of psychotherapy involves several approaches and different psychologists
often use different psychological theories to achieve their goals in treatment and interventions.
However, the combination of these psychological theories is important for the improvement of
psychoanalysis of patients and the treatment approaches used. This paper will, therefore, analyze
three psychological theories which include; attachment theory, control mastery theory and the
object relations theory. Additionally, the analysis will involve the combination of these three
theories to produce and integrated approach suitable for psychoanalysisand psychotherapy. The
development of the paper will involve stating the individual theories and their theorists, an
explanation of each theory and a combination of the three theories to improve the practice of
psychology.
Attachment theory
Attachment involves the enduring emotions and deep bonds that an individual expresses to another
person based on time and space. The attachment theory in psychology was developed by a British
psychologist known as John Bowlby through his attempts to bring an understanding of the distress
that children face due to separation from their parents. The theory was developed by John Bowlby
in 1958 following the professional time he had in the treatment of emotionally disturbed children in
the Child Guidance Clinic in London. The theory posits that the observed characteristics in children

China Social Inequality
The complexity of China s overall marital and family status, gender equality and standard living
shows that there is visible inequality that exists between China s Rural and Urban areas. In 1966
and 1967, Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Tse Tung, had characterized a social
movement known as the Red Guards. The Red Guards were Chinas future as a minority organization
during the Cultural Revolution. This Revolution reestablished Mao s campaign from the Great
Leap Forward in 1958 1961. The Great Leap Forward was Mao s way of restoring a Democratic
society into a Communist society which was to abolish the Capitalist and traditional principles of
Marxismin China. Waiting, by Ha Jin, contrasts between inequality of traditional rural... Show more

During the Cultural Revolution, extramarital affairs were condemned labeled as Male Female
Relationship Lifestyle. Infidelity is rife in China, due to a male dominated culture that has
traditionally (albeit quietly) tolerated concubines and prostitution. Pressure to marry young leads to
fast arrangements (Hayes). In China, Men and Women possess different capacities and functions
towards behavior expectations, position within the family, legal rights, public status, education,
and types of work. By the late nineteenth, early twentieth centuries, serious challenges about the
gender inequalities that were in both Japan and China were to be accepted. Can t a girl serve
equally well as a reminder of her parents? What a crazy, stupid custom, which demands that every
couple have a baby boy to carry on the family line (Jin). During the Cultural Revolution, female
specific concerns continued when the class war took place and equality was assumed to be
ignored. To portray the societal changes that China was traversing. In communist China, there were
many rules, which reflects upon the attitudes made towards the women in the Novel for example,
how the nurses had to be virgins to enter the hospital workforce or how men and women weren t
allowed to walk together outside the hospital grounds. Jin, vividly conjures the texture of daily life
in a place where the demands of human longing must contend with the weight of centuries of
custom. Waiting charms and startles us with its depiction of a China that remains hidden to

Connecticut Preschool Assessment
From the time we enter a preschool program or Kindergarten, our abilities, knowledge and

Effects Of Scurvy During The Middle Ages And The Age Of Sail
Imagine having swollen gums, tooth loss, fatigue, bruising, and exposure to new disease, only
to die a few weeks after. With education, medicinal practices and accessibility to resources, the
risk of scurvy proves less viable in our modern society. However, scurvy dominated the outbreaks
and contributed to the onset of other pathogens during the Middle Ages and the Age of Sail. With
over two million died during voyages, the disease impacted the ability to explore the world, the
economy and ended up wiping out new colonies established from the Old World (Harthorne, 1).
Caused by a lack of education, mundane conditions and diet, Scurvy became an epidemic between
1500 and 1800. Thus, scurvy ended up impacting the Columbian exchange and the role of history.
Scurvy occurs as a result of a lack of Vitamin Cfor prolonged periods of time. Humans regularly
use Vitamin C to perform vital function in the body. In the Age of Exploration, sailors went
without any Vitamin C for upwards of a month due to a lack of education, inhumane conditions,
and the spoilage time for fruits and vegetables. To get enough sailors to voyage across the world,
captains and current workers would capture people to join their crew, never to see their families
again. The captured faced deplorable conditions, including working vigorously for hours on end,
limited sleep, rats crawling around and fecal matter around them. Stress levels increase due to the
barbaric conditions they faced. Studies show that workers

Managing Acute Pain On Patients, Along With Post Operative...
Introduction
Managing acute pain in patients, along with post operative recovery pain, is an essential part of
nursing. Because it can affect each and every part of the human body, managing pain is important
for the health and safety of patients. Effective pain management can increase patient satisfaction
and overall well being, fulfilling the role of a nurse. A nurse must be able to look at ways to
manage patients pain, the ethical aspects of managing pain, along with how to educate patients on
the matter.
Patient Centered Care in Pain Management As a nurse, establishing a care plan that is
individualized to a specific patient has the potential to increase positive psychosocial and physical
patient outcomes. Plans may contain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only is visually assessing a patient s pain important, but so is having nurse patient
interaction. This includes asking open ended questions and listening to what patients have to say.
It is important not to rush the patient when they are answering so that they can answer to the
best of their ability. Accepting the answers patients give to questions asked means also trusting
their answers. This will give them a sense of safety and security (Baath, Wilde Larsson, Idvall,
Hall Lord, 2012). Patient controlled analgesia (PCA) is an option for helping manage pain in
patients. By turning on the dosing button of an infusion pump, patients can self administer
appropriate doses of an analgesic within a certain time frame. Using the PCA pump allows the
patient to treat their pain in a safe way without allowing the patient to overdose on the analgesia.
Understanding the cause and effect relationship between pain, analgesic administration, and relief
is essential in order for a patient to be a candidate to receive PCA therapy (Cooney et al., 2013).
Authorized agent controlled analgesia (AACA) has the same effects as PCA for those patients
who are not eligible to independently use PCA. An authorized individual activates the dose button
for the patient when there is a pain response (Cooney et al., 2013). Local anesthetics can be used
for pain management during a dermal procedure. These can be either injected or applied

Early Modern Europe – Major Forces for Change
Early Modern Europe Major Forces for Change
There are a lot of events that shaped the history of early Europe. Our ancestors had a lot on their
plate when they discovered new lands and fought new diseases. One of the early forces that had a
major impact were the crusades. The Crusades were a bunch of religious wars that were called on
by the Pope and the Catholic Church in order to defend Christianity against the Muslims and get
closer to the holy cities and other places in ancient Palestine. So what exactly does crusade mean?
The word comes from an old French word crois , which means cross (if you haven t guessed it).
The crusaders (men who take vows to fight for Christianity) were not usually under a single banner,
they all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other examples would be the fighter s guild, or the elusive thief s guild.
Another event that caused a massive change in Europe was The Black Death , a very deadly
epidemic that claimed a massive number of victims. The plague was believed to be brought by
rats from the eastern trade routes. There were 3 ways to get infected. First one was bubonic
which gets its name from the massive swellings that the victim had on their head and arms. The
swellings were usually the size of a small apple. This type was mainly spread the same way as
malaria, via insects. Fleas would usually attach themselves to rats or other infected animals and
then come in contact with humans, and infected immediately, the life expectancy was no more
than one week. The second type was the pneumonic plague, as the word suggests it usually
attacked the lungs first, because it was spread just by breathing the same air as another victim, in
turn it was much more dangerous and life expectancy was no more than 2 days. The third type of
the plague was the septicemic which translates to a disease which attacks the bloodstream.
Suffice to say that no doctor at that time could cure it, either because they were too afraid to even
go near the victims or perhaps they were just ignorant. The reaction to the plague was mixed. One
of the scenarios that happened is best described in the story The Masque of the Red Death by
Edgar Allan Poe. A group of nobles shut themselves in a

part in the problems that occurred. The Prince says, Some shall be pardoned, and some

Sir Robert Peel Policing
Running Head: SIR ROBERT PEEL
Sir Robert Peel: Effects on Modern Policing CJA/214
Sir Robert Peel Paper: Effects on Modern Policing Through many years in our history, policing
worked without checks and balances, and strictly with trail and error. The structure that was used
in those days was not entirely solid in design. There was no procedure to fight crime and law
enforcement had no basis. Then, modern policing began in the early nineteenth century. Sir Robert
Peek finally allowed for a change in the criminal justice system after years of society trying to

The method did something for the public that was very important for the future of law enforcement;
they showed the public that there entire job was based on securing their safety. The relationship
between the public and the police would begin to grow after this latest structure. Furthermore, Peel
believed that police officers should enforce the laws but should not hold judiciary responsibilities.
Finally,
SIR ROBERT PEEL Peel s idea in regards to crime was the more police effort would ultimately
reduce crime and violence regardless of how many criminals were actually apprehended. Although
law enforcement has evolved tremendously since the 1800 s, the

principles first established by Sir Robert Peel are still the roots to the structure we see today in
the police force. The United States modern policing are designed based on three elements
including professional, specialized, and public. The element of professional is used because the
officers at all levels in law enforcement dedicate their lives and time to their job so they are
classified as professionals. Law enforcement is specialized because all officers have the ultimate
objective of enforcing the law and preventing crime. Government agencies also have the
responsibility to maintain public safety so they are ideally related to the public. Peel originally

Today in society the view of police officers varies from person to person, but here is the central
idea and responsibilities of what officers are supposed to be viewed as. They are those who play a

and serve and to deliver criminals into the hands of the law. Policeare responsible for catching
criminals who threaten the livelihood, property and peace of other citizens. However, lately

Police are the front line agents of formal social control. Meaning that the job description of an
officer is to be legit by conforming to all rules, to be efficient by achieving maximum productivity
with minimum wasted effort or expense and to be fair by just treatment or behavior without
favoritism or discrimination. This cannot truly happen without the communication with citizens,
but as the introduction section points out neighborhoods with high levels of disadvantage have
poorer attitudes towards the criminal justice system, with race being a strong predictor of attitudes
towards police. For example, in a district with a higher workload and higher crime rate (and high
incivilities) police may treat citizens differently, ignoring minor offenses, and focusing more on
serious offending in an effort to direct limited departmental resources more efficiently. Having that

The Life You Save May Be Your Own Point Of View
Essay #2
The life you save may be your own The story The Life You Save May Be Your Own is written by
an American writer and essayist called Flannery O Connor, who is an important figure for the
American literature. The origin of the author is from the southern part of America and most of the
time she uses the Southern Gothic style. Very often she relies on the grotesque characters, just like
Mr. Shiftlet in this story. The author describes the protagonist as a humorous character, despite his
tries to look as a smart guy, his southern accent and the things he says make no sense; qualities that
turn him into the humorous character he is.
Author s humor is the eye catching point of the story for the readers. The title alone The Life You
Save May Be Your Own indicates the author s purpose of using symbolism and her southern
jocularity. There is a sign in the story with the exact same phrase as the title of the story, which

Essay on The UFO Incident of Roswell, New Mexico
Ever look up at the sky and just wonder if there is life anywhere else? Have you seen anything in
the sky that is almost unexplainable? What if your thoughts really came true? The thought of the
existence of aliens seems to have been around since the beginning of time. There is one incident in
particular that really hits home when talking about the subject, the UFO incident of Roswell, New
Mexico. Around June 25th, 1947 a pilot, Ken Arnold had reported strange objects in the sky while
flying near Mt. Rainer, Washington. He stated that they flew like saucers being skipped over water.
This was where the term Flying Saucers derived from. The Roswell UFO Incidentall started on the

He also stated that they were thin like foil, would not burn or bend, and had unknown characters
on them in two different colors. While the investigation was developing, Glenn Dennis, a
mortician working at Ballard Funeral Home, received calls from the Roswell Army Air Field
(RAAF) morgue. It was stated that the mortuary officer at the RAAF was trying to get small
sealed coffins and wanted to know how to preserves bodies that were exposed to weather. Dennis
would then drive to the hospital, where he had stated he saw strange pieces of wreckage and one
inside an ambulance. As he entered the hospital to talk to a nurse that he knew, he was
threatened by military police to leave. The nurse that he was meeting with told him of the
bodies and drew them on a notepad. Within a few days the nurse was transferred to England,

Starting a Spa Business in Singapore
Starting a Spa Business in Singapore
Despite the economic crisis, health and wellness sector in Singapore has always recorded a
steady growth starting from S$140 million a year. The factor causing the high amount of revenue
is due to high tourist arrivals and the increase in wealth of individuals. People are more willing to
part with their money in return for exotic treatments and multiple treatment packages. There has
also been a 63% increase in the number of spas since 2003. Due to the potential gains, big players
and new companies are setting up shop in Singapore.
The Massage Establishment Act requires a Massage Establishment (ME) License to allow the
company to operate its massage, foot reflexology services, spa baths, manicure and similar
treatments. The ME License is separated into 2 categories, Category I and Category II. Category I
license is more popular among the spa business as licensees can enjoy serving alcohol, admitting
customers regardless of age, unrestricted operating hours and employing foreign therapists or
masseuses.
Before applying for the License, there are a set of conditions that needs to be met before the
license can be issued. These conditions are:

Dead Sea Scrolls Sparknotes
The Dead Sea Scrolls were written in three languages of Scripture. According to an an online article
written by Ed Stetzer titled, A Closer Look: The Significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls, of the 941
scrolls that were found in the Qumran caves, 240 are biblical scrolls and 701 are non biblical
scrolls. Of the 240 biblical scrolls, 235 are written in Hebrew, 5 in Greek and of the 701 non
biblical scrolls, 548 are written in Hebrew, 137 in Aramaic and 5 in Greek. Flint says, this means
that at least some Jews could speak Greek in late Second Temple Palestine, and reinforces the idea
that Jesus and His followers knew Greek. Prior to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest
complete copy of the Hebrew Biblewas the Leningrad Codex. Stetzer highlights a point that none
of the Qumran scrolls was written by or for Christians, but several are relevant for understanding
the historical context of Christian origins. He goes on to say, the three books most commonly
found at Qumran are Psalms (36 scrolls), Deuteronomy (30), and Isaiah (21). This is hardly a
coincidence, but speaks to similar messianic expectations and covenantal themes among the
Qumranites and the early Christians. Stetzer concludes his argument of the importance of The
Dead Sea Scrolls by stating, the Dead Sea Scrolls help scholars get closer to the original Old
Testamenttexts where variants have entered the tradition, plus they help set the historical and
cultural context for the Intertestamental and

Media In The 1900 s
As each generation comes and goes, the things that define them come and go as well. In the late
1700 s and early 1800 s it was the Roman Catholic church, in the mid 1800 s to the early 1900 s it
was technology and industrialization, then throughout the 1900 s it was war. Today and for the past
ten plus years. Media has defined our generation. All types of media, social, news, mass, etc. is
everywhere we look and it is how we see and perceive the world today. This is especially true
when it comes to the perception of drugs in our society today. When one thinks of the word drug
most of the time their first thought is not a good one. Media has shifted society into thinking that
most drugs are bad and have no good qualities about them and that there are very few good drugs

Media is so large in our everyday lives, especially as American, that we do not always realize that
most of the information we our gaining comes from the different types of media we see every
day. Carl L. Hart and Charles Ksir write in their book, Drugs, Society, Human Behavior that
there are no bad drugs. ...but it is the way that the drug is being used (Hart and Ksir, 2015, 4).
This does seem like a logical argument; however, media makes it seem like there are in fact bad
drugs and that those drugs have no good uses at all. That is just not true, there are many drugs
that the media has and will continue to display as only bad and death like drugs, however, all
drugs can be both bad and good, it just depends on how you use

Descartes Method Of Doubt Essay
Question: Describe Descartes method of doubt. What beliefs does Descartes think survive his
method of doubt? Do you agree with his arguments? RenГ© Descartes (1556 1650) considered a
rationalist claims that before we can describe reality or what it means to exist, one must know
what reality and existence is. Descartes proposed that it is pointless to claim something is real
without justification. However for something to be justified it must be also be indubitable. In
[RenГ© Descartes, Meditation I, 1641] Descartes argues that ones beliefs can be systematically
doubted. All truths, for example; beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and matter should be doubted in order
to build a belief system that is indubitable. In this essay I will discuss the methods of doubt; these
include perceptual illusions, the dream problem, and a deceiving God. I will also discuss the
phrase I am, I exist and I am a thinking thing that passed the method the doubt. I will use these
methods of doubt and phrases to explain why the arguments are either weak or strong and whether
I agree to their meaning. The Method of Doubt Descartes s task in essence was to create a system
that would support indubitable knowledge; a creation that would allow a foundation for the
expansion of the truth and remove all doubt from knowledge. This means that if something is to be
true it is to be known beyond all reasonable and possible doubt. To do this Descartes uses the
following method: 1. Accepting only information that

T.S. Eliot
How has Eliot used both conventional and Modernist poetic techniques to represent his Modernist
concerns?
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Preludes expresses Eliot s Modernist concerns about the
lack of morals and values in modern society through the use of personas within the urban landscape
and the urban society. Modern man s lifestyle of repetition of trivial tasks and the lack of
meaningful things in life is represented and emphasised through the use of alliteration, metaphor,
fragmentation and word choice.
The urban landscape is employed by Eliot in Preludes to demonstrate the isolated desertion of a
modern city. The use of repetition in the showers beat on broken blinds emphasises the polluted,
squalid environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliot expresses his Modernist concern of the subtle, harmful nature of the urban landscape through
repetition and the metaphor of the yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window panes . The fog
is compared to a stray cat, crafting and cunning, attempting to get into the house, the intrusive
nature of pollution is emphasised by this. Prufrock is overwhelmed by the urban environment and
society and attempts to escape through his fantasy, we have lingered in the chambers of the sea
but the modern landscape proves inescapable and Prufrock is swallowed by the demands and
expectations of society, till human voices wake us and we drown.
The modern society is also used by Eliot to express his Modernist concerns of the lack of
meaning and values in life, the superficiality of society and the lack of individuality of the
people. In Preludes, fragmentation is used to demonstrate the broken views of the people of
modern society who can no longer see themselves in a wholistic way. Fragmentation is shown
through enjambment to create broken stanzas to disorientate readers, emphasising the confusions
of society. Eliot intentionally refers to the people of the city only as eyes and feet and refers to
the people collectively, one thinks of all the hand that are raising dingy shades in a thousand

As I put my black and gold jersey on, I thought of the outcome of tonight s game. Either the
Penguins come out as champions, or they are forced to game 7. I walked downstairs to put my
shoes on, and I saw my brother with his black and teal jersey on. We headed to the car. My mom
was already annoyed by how much my brother and I were fighting over who would win the
intense game. Finally, after a couple of minutes, we journeyed to the big game. After a long ride,
we finally entered the streets of Pittsburgh. We sensed the excitement and tense atmosphere of
the city. Everybody crawled the streets getting ready for the big game. When waited in line, it
seemed like the whole city tried to rush in. The line took about 45 minutes, but it seemed like
hours. Finally, as we went through security, we were dogs released from a cage. From the time
we found our seats until the beginning of the game, more and more people filled the massive
arena. Many people filled the seats up like sardines. When everybody arrived to my favorite
place, we all waited for 8 o clock, the start of the game. By the time 8 o clock came around the
crowd already filled with excitement. When it was time for the national anthem, everybody
quieted down in order to respect the flag that represents everything that allows us to be in that
moment. The whole arena stood in silence as the red, white, and blue banner flew over. When the
words, the home of the brave filled the air, everybody started to scream again.

The Post American World Essay
The Post American World
America was conducting business as usual, but others were joining the game. (Zakaria, 221). All
this time we thought we were on top, we were actually slowly becoming less and less of leader
and more a bystander as the rest of the world is slowly rising around us. Zakaria shows in that
quote that as America has been continuing business like always, and because of this we have failed
to realize our standing with the world around us. In the book The Post American World, Zakaria
shows us the challenges that America faces today. I believe the United Statesis most affected by our

I think it s a good thing that America has competition, we need the motivation and the support these
larger countries can offer.
The last way that America is most affected by the rise of the rest is through our worldly
participation. In a globalized world, almost all problems spill over borders. (Zakaria, 34). On a
frequent basis America tends to interfere with many global issues. With that we spend lots of
money we may not currently have. I don t think that s a wise choice of America, but Zakaria
states When the United States involves itself abroad; it always believes that it is genuinely trying
to help other countries better themselves (Zakaria, 35). America does have good intentions but
needs to face the reality that every issue can t also become ours. Now with other countries rising
we can allow them to step in a fill that gap America can no longer tend to.
By adjusting to the new reality of our ignorance, competition, and worldly participation I believe
America would put itself in a good place to deal with the rise of the rest . I think Zakaria points
out true issues America has faced and is yet to face. It s all about the present, as much as we are
driving toward the future, it s really important to deal what we have at hand. Although we may be
slowing in our advancements America is still in a very good position as a country and has come a

Advancement in Forensic Technology
ADVANCEMENT IN FORENSIC TECHNOLOGY Forensic science is a field of criminology
that utilizes scientific methods to gather and examine evidence in order to prove or disprove a
crime. Forensic science involves gathering fingerprints, palm prints, footprints, tooth bite prints,
blood, and hair and fiber samples and bunch of other things in order to investigate a crime scene.
Ballistics techniques are employed to make out weapons in addition to voice identification
methods used to recognize criminals (Nickell Fischer, 1999). The lie detector has been used in
police investigation since 1921. The modern lie detector was invented by a medical student from
University of California. In spite of being frequently used in police interrogation and
investigation the lie detector is usually not accepted by the judiciary and is heavily criticized by
psychologists. The lie detector records several physiological parameters simultaneously during an
interrogation. The principle on which the lie detector works is that certain involuntary
physiological changes occur within the body when a person is lying. The theory is that when a
person lies, the lying causes a certain amount of stress that produces changes in several
involuntary physiological reactions (Nickell Fischer, 1999). These changes are picked up and
recorded by sensors attached to the body. The polygraph computes changes in breathing, blood
pressure, pulse and perspiration; pens record the data on graph paper. The individual is

Alexander Weygers Essay
Alexander Weygers, a man born two years before Orville and Wilbur Wright took to the air, always
had a fascination with flight.
My belief was that man had copied the bird under the erroneous impression that the most obvious
way to fly is to copy the bird s flight, he said. To me, it was as impractical to make a plane like a
bird as it would be to make an automobile look like a horse or a motorcycle like a man.
Weygers first got the idea for his flying machine in 1927 when he was working as a nautical
engineer. The concept was inspired not by a bird, but a dolphin.
It was early one morning at sea when he observed with fascination a dolphin that appeared to swim
effortlessly in front of the ship.

change. A shattered man after his wife died in childbirth in 1927, his sorrow deepened when his
family was captured by the Japanese.
Desperate the help them, Weygers was told it was nearly impossible to access the prison camps

Emotional stress, physical over activity and vigorous activity in a person having coronary artery

These rules impacted today s in many different ways. Today, a field is 100 yards long and 60

Battle of Vimy Ridge
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was one of the greatest military battles ever fought. This battle
contributed to Canada s coming of age as a nation. The taking of Vimy Ridge claimed more than
200,000 lives during the first World War and will forever remain in the history as one of the worlds
great military triumphs. The Canadian Military used extensive planning, new innovative weaponry
and relied on the tremendous courage and sacrifice of its soldiers in order to claim victory.
The Canadian Military s extensive planning of the assault on Vimy Ridge was one of the main
reasons for its successful victory. Prior to the assault, the Canadian troops were intensely prepared
in terms of their training. The soldiers were so well trained that if their leader was killed they
would be able to follow through with the plan with great precision and execution. The battle was so
thought out that there was absolutely nothing left to chance. The Canadians created maps of the
entire ridge created from many previous ridge assaults (Stephens, John. Innovations. ) along with
arial photos of the location. As the Canadians captured German Soldiers they would try to make out
as much information of the terrain as possible (Foot, Richard. Meticulous Preparation. ) The maps

Essay on Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch is regarded as the pioneer of the Expressionist movement in modern painting. At an
early stage Munch was recognised in Germany and central Europe as one of the creators of a new
and different movement of art, that helped artists to express their feelings about all the social
change that was happening around them.
Munch was born in 1863, and before long he had come to know the intensity of emotional pain.
His father was a doctor who often bought patients to the Munch home. His mother died when
Edvard was five years old, his older sister died of disease at the age of fifteen, and Edvard himself
was often ill. One of his youngest sisters was also diagnosed with a mental illness at an early age.
With death and illness as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The woman is depicted as a creature of temptation, a selfish enslaver of men. She embraces the
man, and appears to be sucking the life out of him.
Edvard wrote of the inspiration of the painting in his diary. The paintings showed emotion that had
never been expressed so openly through art before. This painting is laced with hidden meanings,
the faceless clock represents the uncertainty of the artists time left, the bed represents death, the
placement of the figure between these two pieces symbolises the decisions and issues he is
experiencing. The painting depicts a horse pulling a cart, which appears to be dangerously out of
control. The body is distorted, twisted and disfigured with terror.
Edvard Munch s The Scream was painted around the end of the 19th century, and is possibly the
first Expressionist painting. The Scream was very different from the art of its time. During this
time artists tried to paint realistic paintings. Munch was a tortured soul, and it certainly showed in
this painting. Most of his family had died, and he was often plagued by sickness. The Scream was
a reflection of what was going on at the time, and what was going on in Munch s own mind
It seemed to me that I could hear the scream. I painted this picture; painted the clouds as real
blood. The colors screamed (Preble 52). Some people, when they look at this painting, only see

Case Study of Designing a Self-Service Disaster Recovery Plan
TITLE: Case Study of Designing a Self Service Disaster Recovery Plan
1.0Issues regarding disaster recovery plan (DRP)
Disaster recovery plan (DRP) is a clearly defined and documented plan of action for use at the time
of a crisis. Typically a plan will cover all the key personnel, resources, services and actions required
to implement and manage the DR process (comission, 2014).
A large US public power provider, with millions of residential and business customers, needed to
rethink its disaster recovery program. Due to budget constraints, the utility s data recovery

After getting the basic view of DRP, then we start to find the related new technology of
modernization of DRP technologies thus upgrade the system performance from taking 20 days to
recovery to shorter days to meet the board directors demand.
4.0Findings
4.1The status of the company DRP
The conventional DRP of the company has not been updated or tested for several years. Under the
existing program, system recovery could take up to 20 days which is unacceptable timeframe for a
utility relied upon by numerous states for critical infrastructure services.
We found that a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) had never been performed to prioritize disaster
recovery based on the cost of loss. We also found a significant lack of integration of disaster
recovery governance into the overall organizational structure.
We worked with the utility to perform a BIA to identify critical business processes, the likelihood of
service disruption, and the projected cost of loss. We then helped the utility understand the business
risks of systems and technology services interruption.
The team prioritized investments for disaster recovery initiatives, and in conjunction with business
unit leaders, designed a tiered model highlighting recovery priorities. These priorities were
validated with IT infrastructure leaders to help ensure alignment. As failover

Adversity In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
People constantly determine that hardships prepare them for an anomalous triumph and that
without adversity they will not have the strength to excel. However, in trying to achieve
adversity people damage their psychological well being, just like the Tuskegee Airmen who
faced racial discrimination for serving their country. Although this may be true, the Roman poet
Horace elucidates that Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous
circumstances would have lain dormant . This is often exemplified in A Raisin in the Sun and
through Cristian Mariano Deppeler. To initiate, if it wasn t for the hardships that adversity
exposes people to, then many would not see meaning in their life, and in some cases, end up
putting and end to it. For instance, the story of Cristian Mariano Deppeler, a social
communicator that is known today for his video on YouTube in which he shocked the world and
affirmed that he is not disabled . Even though the doctors said that Deppeler was going to be a
vegetable for the rest of his life, since he suffered cerebral palsy, Deppeler managed to graduate

Use Of Technology And Social Media
The use of technology and social media makes our life a lot easier. Social media and technology
play a huge role in our everyday life and friendship. In today s world, people, mostly teenagers
use social media and technology every day to communicate and interact with others. Technology
gives us an opportunity to connect with anybody we want from anywhere we are, saving us time.
According to Daily News 84 percent of people worldwide say they couldn t go a single day without
their mobile devicein their hand. That means almost everybody uses their phone in order to
communicate and stay updated. I use my phone every single day and I cannot imagine living my
life without a smartphone. I go on social media websites every day to connect with friends and see
what they are doing. It is the fastest way to interact with friends and I love technologyfor that. A
couple decades ago people didn t have good communicationdevices therefore it was much harder
for them to connect with each other. Technology makes it much more convenient and easy for us
to use, saving us a lot of time. Having technology makes our life easier and at the same time
virtual. It is very convenient and just normal for our society to use it everyday. In my opinion
modern technology provides more options and opportunities to connect with our friends. I really
don t think that technology and social media ruin our friendships like most people would say. It all
depends on how you use it. Technology and Social media

Analysis Of The Poem Sasuke
Sasuke! A girl with long blonde hair tied back in two pigtails wearing a long white dress cried.
Her wide cerulean eyes wavered as her lover walked toward her. What are you doing here? You
know you can t be here. She said, stepping forward slightly. She stared into the eyes of the man in
front of her. His raven hair framing his pale face, that glistened in the moonlight.
Sasuke reached out his hand, taking her hand in his own. He crouched on one knee, and kissed the
girl s hand lightly. I will never leave your side, no matter the danger, Naruko. Naruko frowned,
feeling the emotions and hearing his thoughts. She fell to her knees, still holding on to Sasuke s
hand.
But you must! It s too dangerous here! She cried.

Disadvantages Of Cosplayers
Cosplay has the ability to transform cosplayers into their heroes, whoever they are. But things
haven t always been that ideal. Unfortunately, body shaming and bullying and abusing are very
real and prominent issues for cosplayers at conventions. The sting of negative comments can carry
over into regular life for some and even lead to anxiety or depression (Arielle Lien and
psychologist Dr. Beth Murphy).

The Influence Of The American Enlightenment
From 1714 to 1818 new ideas and thinking began to sweep across colonial America in a period
known as American Enlightenment. The American Enlightenment has been seen as the key role in
in the start of the American Revolution which led to American freedom. The Enlightenment gave
colonist the ability to speak their mind whether it was in Religion, Science or Math. American
Philosopher and Politician Thomas Paine saw this time as an opportunity to express his opinion
Great Britain and change colonist views on Britain and start of Revolution. He did so in writing
one of the most influential texts in American History in Common Sense. Paine is seen as a

1848 Women s Rights Convention Essay
Through out history, Americans have fought for the rights of freedom in their country, freedoms
that have been passed down through dozen s of generations. Freedom s such as religion, speech,
press, slavery and the right to vote. Americans, though very aware of their freedoms, often take
them for granted and forget the struggles that their ancestors went through to obtain them. One
example of this struggle is a woman s right to be treated and looked upon by the government as
equals. This was not an easy battle to win, and it took a strong few to begin to bring the struggle
that women had faced for centuries to an end.
The need for women s rights began back in colonial America where women were referred to as ...

Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges
Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis
Borges is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our
world. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be
true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the
fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man
keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the
subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. Tlon is an ideal world, which the reader later finds out,
created by a secret society, Orbis Tertius and has been equipped with its... Show more content on

No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he
cannot seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar]
was a region in Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator
knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world.
Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just
to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although
minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that
which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what
the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is
fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the
Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The
specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an
apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the story becomes seemingly
false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes through a similar
development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As

Exploring Our Inner self in Cyberspace
Cyberspace is a new communication medium which enables us to understand our social behavior.
In the real world and virtual world, we understand ourselves by developing aspects of our identity.
However, in the virtual world, we can explore our inner self without rejection that may be
experienced in the real world. Cyberspace is, thus, a psychological space to build and form,
explore and discover, and accept and understand ourselves. To explain this, we must view this on an
individual and collective perspective. Identity in cyberspace allows an individual to construct
themselves, and culture in cyberspace allows individuals to engage in social interactions which
involve identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Donath and Palloff perspective, people use this psychological space to simply vent or act out
their fantasies and the frustrations, anxieties, and desires that fuel those fantasies. (Lopez
Martinez, 2001) This shows that we occasionally repress our true feelings and fantasies.
Therefore, we go online and feel comfortable in expressing our feelings and fantasies.
Cyberspace is more of an opportunity to better understand themselves, as a path for exploring
their identity... (Lopez Martinez, 2001) It is clear that cyberspace is limitless and this opens
doors to find your true self. Since we can create different characters and environments, we are
playing a game of ourselves and discovering who we are and who we wish to be. Psychoanalyst
Erik Erikson believed ...play [is] a toy situation that allows us to reveal and commit ourselves in
its unreality. (Turkle, 1996) Cyberspace help people express themselves using words and, in a
humanistic perspective, this process is called self actualization. The outcome is sometimes good
because people report being more like their true self offline.
The Internet has evolved to become a social medium which allow people to communicate. This
started in the early 1990s, where critics claim the Internet will become an information highway.
Then the internet made room for cyberculture, an online space reserved for

The Balance Of Beauty
In this 21st century and in the past, people living in the different parts of the world were and are
facing many social issues, community challenges, and human rights. For the people, Balance of
Beauty is the key to compete through the issues mentioned and to find peace and unity in one
global community. Beauty is the symbol of pluralism, thereby of unity. A balance of both unity
and pluralism can make changes in lives. Steps of pluralism, unity, and equality are mentioned as
beauty because those guidance s help makes life beautiful and more valuable. Moreover,
working on that guidance will make people s life balance. In this modern world, many events like
conflicts, failures, and wars. But alternatively, if we chose our world to be civilized and help
prevent such issues, then the community and the citizens should work upon pluralism, practices of
civil society, unity, working upon mankind, and acceptance of every belief. No human
development initiative can be sustained unless; it operates in an environment that invests in
pluralism and diversity, that it has an extensive and engaged civil society and stable competent
democratic governance. Today issues like failing democracies and clash or lack of ignorance have
led to problems in the communities. A major problem is that the industrialized world too often is

The Findings Partners in the 21st Century is a study created by Dr. Ron Rogge, who is a
relationship expert psychologist. He does plenty of research on individual factors, health factors

individuals seek for in their relationships with another person. The study was completed online
that consisted of questions that ranged from personality questions that included one s gender,
personality background, romantic and sexual partners, drug and alcohol use, and sexually
transmitted infections, etc. (Rogge). However, the key part of the survey was to explain whether
an individual is single or in a relationship. For instance, if someone was single, in a relationship,
engaged, or married etc. Based on answering that question, the upcoming questions would have
changed to other directions dependent on the answers. The importance of answering the
questions correctly played a role in the follow up questions because it allows the user doing the
study to pick what the user is looking for. For example, I selected I am single and questions
indicated if I use geo social apps to meet people. When someone selected single, the survey began
to dive into what the person wanted in a relationship. The questions contained many different
variations, including if one uses the survey to satisfy their sexual curiosity, experience new people,
have nothing better to do, or it s exciting. However, another

History Of Rechambering Guns
When gunsmiths first started rechambering guns it was more labor intensive along with time
consuming. Gunsmiths had only a couple of different scrapers to get the job done. Maybe this
was due to only having a couple of rounds for specific rifles, that I am not so sure of. Scrapers
would normally run through the bore multiple times while being spun. Usually being spun by a
hand wheel. After the scrapers had been rotated, the chamber would be a step closer to being
complete. The scrapers of that time were very simple in design and could not give a smooth
uniform finished bore. Scrapers were mainly made from an iron bar that was hammered square in
shape then twisted until it was a bit bigger than the size of the bore. The scraper was forcibly

  • 2. Two Party System in U.S. Essay example The reemergence of the two party system in America during the early to mid 1800s was due greatly to the battles for states rights and the economic issues of the time. These two topics were closely associated with each other and they helped contributed to the political struggle between the Democrats and the Whigs. The political divisions had occurred one part due to Jackson s veto of the re chartering of the Bank of the United States, the Tariff of Abominations, and the disastrous effects the Panic of 1837 had on the economy. Jackson s veto of the Maysville Road Bill and South Carolina s nullification of the Tariff of Abominations had an enormous effect on the separations of political support as they pertained to states rights. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many harsh criticisms were formed about his plan and as a result, the conflict between the Whigs and Democrats stiffened and increased the dissection between the two. These economic changes helped to create political divisions, which ultimately led to a distinct two party system. Many politicians also made attempts to either increase states rights or to increase those of the federal government. The debate over states rights led to a further division in political ideologies and consequently strengthened the two party system. One such debate was over the Maysville Road Bill. When Jackson vetoed the bill to appropriate federal funds to repair an interstate road, it marked an enormous setback for nationalism and also the American System. His states rights partiality angered Henry Clay and other believers in the American system because the veto attacked one of the major components of the system, a strong infrastructure including roads. Another issue dealing with the rights of the state governments that divided the nation political was South Carolina s Ordinance of Nullification. In reaction to the burden that the Tariff of Abominations placed upon the farmers of South Carolina, the state utilized its right to nullify the federal law. In nullifying the tariff, South Carolina took a bold step to declare its governmental rights. Jackson s hostile reaction to the South Carolinians created a growing political division, strengthening the imminent separation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analgesic Pain Management MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE PAIN The choice of the pain management strategies depends on different factors including the site and the nature of the surgery, type and intensity of pain, co morbidities and the ongoing clinical condition of the patient. As described earlier, whilst satisfactory pain relief is essential for the recovery of the critically ill patients, care should be exercised to ensure that the analgesic techniques do not deteriorate the condition (e.g. hypotension with epidural, respiratory depression with opioids, renal impairment with Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]). The management options can grossly be categorised to: 1.Analgesic medications (Paracetamol, NSAIDs, Opioids etc.) 2.Regional analgesic techniques (Local Anaesthetics +/ Opioids) Commonly, a combination of medications / local anaesthetic techniques is employed for safe and effect pain relief. The World Health Organisation analgesic ladder was introduced to improve cancer pain control. The concept is extrapolated to other pain conditions as well as the intensity of the pain increases, the complexity of the interventions also increase. 1.Step 1: Simple analgesics (Paracetamol +/ NSAIDs) 2.Step 2: Weak Opioids (such as Codeine) +/ Simple analgesics 3.Step 3: Stronger Opioids (such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... where nerves are injured), conventional analgesics may not provide satisfactory relief. The issue is further compounded if the patient has past history of chronic pain. Regional analgesic techniques (discussed below) can help. When traditional interventions fail, co analgesics such as anticonvulsants (e.g. gabapentin), antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) or Ketamine (5 10 mg per hour intravenous infusion) may be used. It is prudent to seek help from the hospital acute pain team prior to embarking on less conventional approaches to manage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theory And Theory Of Psychology Overview The practice of psychotherapy involves several approaches and different psychologists often use different psychological theories to achieve their goals in treatment and interventions. However, the combination of these psychological theories is important for the improvement of psychoanalysis of patients and the treatment approaches used. This paper will, therefore, analyze three psychological theories which include; attachment theory, control mastery theory and the object relations theory. Additionally, the analysis will involve the combination of these three theories to produce and integrated approach suitable for psychoanalysisand psychotherapy. The development of the paper will involve stating the individual theories and their theorists, an explanation of each theory and a combination of the three theories to improve the practice of psychology. Attachment theory Attachment involves the enduring emotions and deep bonds that an individual expresses to another person based on time and space. The attachment theory in psychology was developed by a British psychologist known as John Bowlby through his attempts to bring an understanding of the distress that children face due to separation from their parents. The theory was developed by John Bowlby in 1958 following the professional time he had in the treatment of emotionally disturbed children in the Child Guidance Clinic in London. The theory posits that the observed characteristics in children such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

China Social Inequality The complexity of China s overall marital and family status, gender equality and standard living shows that there is visible inequality that exists between China s Rural and Urban areas. The Red Guards were Chinas future as a minority organization during the Cultural Revolution. This Revolution reestablished Mao s campaign from the Great Leap Forward in 1958 1961. During the Cultural Revolution, extramarital affairs were condemned labeled as Male Female Relationship Lifestyle. Infidelity is rife in China, due to a male dominated culture that has traditionally (albeit quietly) tolerated concubines and prostitution. Pressure to marry young leads to fast arrangements (Hayes). In China, Men and Women possess different capacities and functions towards behavior expectations, position within the family, legal rights, public status, education, and types of work. By the late nineteenth, early twentieth centuries, serious challenges about the gender inequalities that were in both Japan and China were to be accepted. Can t a girl serve equally well as a reminder of her parents? What a crazy, stupid custom, which demands that every couple have a baby boy to carry on the family line (Jin). • 8. Effects Of Scurvy During The Middle Ages And The Age Of Sail Imagine having swollen gums, tooth loss, fatigue, bruising, and exposure to new disease, only to die a few weeks after. With education, medicinal practices and accessibility to resources, the risk of scurvy proves less viable in our modern society. However, scurvy dominated the outbreaks and contributed to the onset of other pathogens during the Middle Ages and the Age of Sail. With over two million died during voyages, the disease impacted the ability to explore the world, the economy and ended up wiping out new colonies established from the Old World (Harthorne, 1). Caused by a lack of education, mundane conditions and diet, Scurvy became an epidemic between 1500 and 1800. Thus, scurvy ended up impacting the Columbian exchange and the role of history. Scurvy occurs as a result of a lack of Vitamin Cfor prolonged periods of time. Humans regularly use Vitamin C to perform vital function in the body. In the Age of Exploration, sailors went without any Vitamin C for upwards of a month due to a lack of education, inhumane conditions, and the spoilage time for fruits and vegetables. To get enough sailors to voyage across the world, captains and current workers would capture people to join their crew, never to see their families again. The captured faced deplorable conditions, including working vigorously for hours on end, limited sleep, rats crawling around and fecal matter around them. Stress levels increase due to the barbaric conditions they faced. Studies show that workers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Managing Acute Pain On Patients, Along With Post Operative... Introduction Managing acute pain in patients, along with post operative recovery pain, is an essential part of nursing. Because it can affect each and every part of the human body, managing pain is important for the health and safety of patients. Effective pain management can increase patient satisfaction and overall well being, fulfilling the role of a nurse. A nurse must be able to look at ways to manage patients pain, the ethical aspects of managing pain, along with how to educate patients on the matter. Plans may contain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only is visually assessing a patient s pain important, but so is having nurse patient interaction. This includes asking open ended questions and listening to what patients have to say. It is important not to rush the patient when they are answering so that they can answer to the best of their ability. Accepting the answers patients give to questions asked means also trusting their answers. This will give them a sense of safety and security (Baath, Wilde Larsson, Idvall, Hall Lord, 2012). Patient controlled analgesia (PCA) is an option for helping manage pain in patients. By turning on the dosing button of an infusion pump, patients can self administer appropriate doses of an analgesic within a certain time frame. Using the PCA pump allows the patient to treat their pain in a safe way without allowing the patient to overdose on the analgesia. Understanding the cause and effect relationship between pain, analgesic administration, and relief is essential in order for a patient to be a candidate to receive PCA therapy (Cooney et al., 2013). Authorized agent controlled analgesia (AACA) has the same effects as PCA for those patients who are not eligible to independently use PCA. An authorized individual activates the dose button for the patient when there is a pain response (Cooney et al., 2013). Local anesthetics can be used for pain management during a dermal procedure. These can be either injected or applied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Early Modern Europe – Major Forces for Change Early Modern Europe Major Forces for Change There are a lot of events that shaped the history of early Europe. Our ancestors had a lot on their plate when they discovered new lands and fought new diseases. One of the early forces that had a major impact were the crusades. The Crusades were a bunch of religious wars that were called on by the Pope and the Catholic Church in order to defend Christianity against the Muslims and get closer to the holy cities and other places in ancient Palestine. Other examples would be the fighter s guild, or the elusive thief s guild. Another event that caused a massive change in Europe was The Black Death , a very deadly epidemic that claimed a massive number of victims. The plague was believed to be brought by rats from the eastern trade routes. There were 3 ways to get infected. First one was bubonic which gets its name from the massive swellings that the victim had on their head and arms. The swellings were usually the size of a small apple. This type was mainly spread the same way as malaria, via insects. Fleas would usually attach themselves to rats or other infected animals and then come in contact with humans, and infected immediately, the life expectancy was no more than one week. The second type was the pneumonic plague, as the word suggests it usually attacked the lungs first, because it was spread just by breathing the same air as another victim, in turn it was much more dangerous and life expectancy was no more than 2 days. The third type of the plague was the septicemic which translates to a disease which attacks the bloodstream. Suffice to say that no doctor at that time could cure it, either because they were too afraid to even go near the victims or perhaps they were just ignorant. The reaction to the plague was mixed. One of the scenarios that happened is best described in the story The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe. A group of nobles shut themselves in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then, modern policing began in the early nineteenth century. The Life You Save May Be Your Own Point Of View Essay #2 The life you save may be your own The story The Life You Save May Be Your Own is written by an American writer and essayist called Flannery O Connor, who is an important figure for the American literature. According to an an online article written by Ed Stetzer titled, A Closer Look: The Significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls, of the 941 scrolls that were found in the Qumran caves, 240 are biblical scrolls and 701 are non biblical scrolls. Of the 240 biblical scrolls, 235 are written in Hebrew, 5 in Greek and of the 701 non biblical scrolls, 548 are written in Hebrew, 137 in Aramaic and 5 in Greek. Flint says, this means that at least some Jews could speak Greek in late Second Temple Palestine, and reinforces the idea that Jesus and His followers knew Greek. Prior to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest complete copy of the Hebrew Biblewas the Leningrad Codex. Stetzer highlights a point that none of the Qumran scrolls was written by or for Christians, but several are relevant for understanding the historical context of Christian origins. He goes on to say, the three books most commonly found at Qumran are Psalms (36 scrolls), Deuteronomy (30), and Isaiah (21). This is hardly a coincidence, but speaks to similar messianic expectations and covenantal themes among the Qumranites and the early Christians. Stetzer concludes his argument of the importance of The Dead Sea Scrolls by stating, the Dead Sea Scrolls help scholars get closer to the original Old Testamenttexts where variants have entered the tradition, plus they help set the historical and cultural context for the Intertestamental and ... RenГ© Descartes (1556 1650) considered a rationalist claims that before we can describe reality or what it means to exist, one must know what reality and existence is. Descartes proposed that it is pointless to claim something is real without justification. However for something to be justified it must be also be indubitable. In [RenГ© Descartes, Meditation I, 1641] Descartes argues that ones beliefs can be systematically doubted. All truths, for example; beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and matter should be doubted in order to build a belief system that is indubitable. In this essay I will discuss the methods of doubt; these include perceptual illusions, the dream problem, and a deceiving God. I will also discuss the phrase I am, I exist and I am a thinking thing that passed the method the doubt. I will use these methods of doubt and phrases to explain why the arguments are either weak or strong and whether I agree to their meaning. The Method of Doubt Descartes s task in essence was to create a system that would support indubitable knowledge; a creation that would allow a foundation for the expansion of the truth and remove all doubt from knowledge. This means that if something is to be true it is to be known beyond all reasonable and possible doubt. To do this Descartes uses the following method: 1. Accepting only information that ... In Preludes, fragmentation is used to demonstrate the broken views of the people of modern society who can no longer see themselves in a wholistic way. Fragmentation is shown through enjambment to create broken stanzas to disorientate readers, emphasising the confusions of society. Advancement in Forensic Technology ADVANCEMENT IN FORENSIC TECHNOLOGY Forensic science is a field of criminology that utilizes scientific methods to gather and examine evidence in order to prove or disprove a crime. Forensic science involves gathering fingerprints, palm prints, footprints, tooth bite prints, blood, and hair and fiber samples and bunch of other things in order to investigate a crime scene. Ballistics techniques are employed to make out weapons in addition to voice identification methods used to recognize criminals (Nickell Fischer, 1999). The lie detector has been used in police investigation since 1921. The modern lie detector was invented by a medical student from University of California. In spite of being frequently used in police interrogation and investigation the lie detector is usually not accepted by the judiciary and is heavily criticized by psychologists. The lie detector records several physiological parameters simultaneously during an interrogation. The principle on which the lie detector works is that certain involuntary physiological changes occur within the body when a person is lying. The theory is that when a person lies, the lying causes a certain amount of stress that produces changes in several involuntary physiological reactions (Nickell Fischer, 1999). These changes are picked up and recorded by sensors attached to the body. The polygraph computes changes in breathing, blood pressure, pulse and perspiration; pens record the data on graph paper. The Canadian Military s extensive planning of the assault on Vimy Ridge was one of the main reasons for its successful victory. Prior to the assault, the Canadian troops were intensely prepared in terms of their training. The soldiers were so well trained that if their leader was killed they would be able to follow through with the plan with great precision and execution. The battle was so thought out that there was absolutely nothing left to chance. The Canadians created maps of the entire ridge created from many previous ridge assaults (Stephens, John. Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. Scrapers were mainly made from an iron bar that was hammered square in shape then twisted until it was a bit bigger than the size of the bore. The scraper was forcibly ...
