2. The Cultural And Religious Traditions Of The European...
In an eastern Mediterranean province, a group of pious individuals pray before the elaborate
portrait of a local saint and hero, hoping the image will bestow upon them some semblance of
safety and secure for them a good harvest and protection from the aggressive invaders who continue
to threaten their lands to the south. The individuals know little about the movement stirring in the
large city to the north, which seeks to remove the holy image to which they so ardently pray. From
the west, rumors of a new Creed have made their way to the town, but the grand political and
historical implications of this document are unknown the laity, who, illiterate, have never read the
creed to which their church adheres.

Though such controversies alone have many theological and religious implications, they can only
be truly understood in the political and historical context in which they arose.
Religious icons, or images, may include paintings, murals, portraits, or mosaics, which, in the
seventh through ninth centuries, commonly depicted Christ, the likeness of a saint, or a particular
scene from scripture. The dispute over the use of icons and religious imagery in the Church, and the
nature of this use amongst the laity, began in the Eastern Roman Empire, or Byzantine Empire, in
the late seventh century, with the movement against icons, or the iconoclasm movement, reaching
its height in the mid ninth century. The use of Icons in Christian practice began in the Coptic
Church in Egypt, and spread throughout the Byzantium Empire, developing into a vital form of
religious education and communication for the laity throughout the East. Those who opposed
religious iconography, did so on the basis of scripture, as the practice of icon use was clearly
condemned in Old Testament text. As the use of every religious icon could not be explicitly
regulated, it was difficult for religious and imperial authorities to determine how such icons were
used by the public. Thus, as it was unknown whether the laity prayed before or to the icons in their
community, all religious icons were removed to prevent the risk of unorthodoxy and the potential
practice of idolatry (Brubaker et al., 2011).

3. America s Juvenile Justice System Essay
The Juvenile Justice system, since its conception over a century ago, has been one at conflict with
itself. Originally conceived as a fatherly entity intervening into the lives of the troubled urban
youths, it has since been transformed into a rigid and adversarial arena restrained by the demands
of personal liberty and due process. The nature of a juvenile s experience within the juvenile justice
systemhas come almost full circlefrom being treated as an adult, then as an unaccountable child,
now almost as an adult once more.
Studies and anecdotes have shown that our modern approach, however, is ill equipped to reduce
crime or deal with chronic delinquents while at the same time protecting their due liberties. We now

Colonists placed their children either in the homes of others or, as technology enabled the industrial
revolution, in factories and other locations of modern industry near the home. Writes Feld, ?The
coterminous location of home and workplace and the limited range of occupations enabled young
people to learn most of their required economic skills either from their parents or from surrounding
adults and quickly to achieve adult productivity,? (21). More importantly, children from a relatively
young age were expected to assume adult culpability for crimes they committed. Punishments for
children rivaled those for adults.
As time marched on, childhood became a socially constructed stage of life. Coupled with a rise
in the traditional family view of domesticity (men at work, women isolated as homemakers), new
concepts of child rearing took hold in the middle and upper classes. Instead of exposing children
to the world, ?Deferral of adult responsibilities rather than assumption of adult roles became the
child rearing norm,? writes Feld (30). The ?child saving? movement worked to segregate children
from society both directly and indirectly. These protective measures were based chiefly on middle
class, protestant, white, rural idealists who viewed childhood as a stage of moral immaturity and
impressionability. ?Progressive reformers implemented a variety of child saving strategies

5. How Soda Companies Reduce The Consumption Of Soda Drinks...
After reviewing the problem it is clear that our organization cannot sit back idly and hope for the
best. Soda companies have continued to struggle with the political interference in the market. In
the past few years, nations all over the world have passed taxes on soda beverages. France
passed a tax on soda and sales dropped by 3%. In Mexico, sales dropped by 2% after a similar tax
was passed. And though the drops in sales are alarming, it is not event the biggest threat.
Ultimately, the goal of the politicians is to drastically decrease the consumption of soda drinks.
Their attempt to pass these taxes is a power play to make soda beverages viewed as similar to
cigarette companies. It is imperative that we do everything in our power to stop these taxes from
occurring. So far we have been successful in combating taxes in San Francisco and New York
City. We have done this through a combination of business and political actions. Through our
research we have been able to come up with a comprehensive list of strategies to counteract the
soda tax. This list can be broken down into two main areas, business actions and political actions.
Political: The political strategies would be utilized to strike down all efforts to pass a soda tax or
any other legislation aimed at reducing the consumption of Coca Cola products. These strategies
would include political marketing, and financial donations. Option 1: Political Marketing In this
approach we would attempt to external with our

6. Examples Of Appearance Vs Reality In Macbeth
Macbeth: Appearance vs. Reality
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, many characters appear happy but in reality everything is not
what it seems. In the beginning of the book, all the characters acted as if all of them were friends,
and everyone s personalities came out.
Throughout the book the witches acted, doubtful and put forth impressions that changed the book s
setting. The witches victoriously manage to fool, cheat and provoke the bad throughout Scotland.
The witches enter the scene and they start to talk about where they want to meet Macbeth and how
they want to meet him upon the heath. Fair is foul, and foul is fair (20, 1.1.13) What is significant
about this quote is that fair means that things will look pretty and foul means that the ugly will
become beautiful. With the witches referring to themselves they are also referring that they are

Macbeth is a perfect example for appearance versus reality, because he is portrayed to the readers
as an evil person by planning deaths just so he can be top notch. What some characters see in
Macbeth is leadership and bravery when he stepped up to be King Of Cawdor after Duncan s
death. Would it please your Highness to honor us with your royal company. (158, 3, 4, 51 52)
This quote shows that Ross is being loyal to King Macbeth and also that he respects him. Another
statement about this theme is in Act 5, Scene 5 when the Birnam Woods appeared to be moving,
but in reality soldiers were carrying branches for camouflage, and making their way to the castle to
attack Macbeth. I look d toward Birnam, and anon, methought, the wood began to move. (238, 5, 5,

7. Paul Bernardo Research Paper
Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka are dubbed as the Ken and Barbie Killers because of the
crimes they committed as a couple during the 1990s. Paul was 23 and Karla was 17 years old
when their relationship began. The two young adults were perfectly normal; with their good looks
and charming manners no one suspected these average Canadian citizens to be psychopathic killers.
Brief Background:
Karla Leanne Homolka, born in 1970, grew up in Ontario with a loving family which included her
two sisters and parents. Paul Kenneth Bernardo was born in 1964, in Scarborough and throughout
childhood, faced issues at home with an abusive father and depressed mother. Despite this he grew
up appearing happy and ordinary with good grades and a nice disposition. ... Show more content on

Bernardo was charged with two counts each of kidnapping, unlawful confinement, aggravated
sexual assault and first degree murder as well as one of dismemberment.
Bernardo received a life sentence without parole for 25 years. It is unlikely he will ever be released
because he was classed as a Dangerous Offender .
Karla received 12 years imprisonment due to the plea bargain. She was originally thought to be a
victim of Paul Bernardo s monstrous influence but when the tapes were watched they found her to
be a more active participant than what was originally thought. She is free today.
Theories of Punishment:
Both the theories of punishment behind the sentences were retribution. Paul is not expected to
come out of prison and Karla completed her 12 years in prison without much rehabilitation. In cases
like these where the criminal committed such terrible crimes, it would not be expected that
anything other the retribution be enforced. Unfortunately, the theory of retribution has hardly
served justice for Karla as she should still be receiving punishment by being in prison.

8. The Red Dress by Alice Munro- STRIPPED OF OPPRESSION
Throughout life there is always one person who influences you, impacts your decisions and aids
you in your struggle for identity. It is of no importance whether or not that person is male or
female, friend or family, younger or older. In the story The Red Dress by Alice Munro, the character
Mary Fortune represents this individual; this influence. The main characterin the narrative, who
remains nameless, is only able to discover herself through the help of another. Mary Fortune

I stayed until I could not stand it any more, and then I took a handful of snow from the windowsill
and smeared it all over my chest, before I buttoned my pajamas.
Alice Munro conveys the girl as being an extremely insecure, shy and frightened individual. We are
able to view these traits at their greatest at the school dance. The first guy that the main character
finds herself dancing with is the popular Manson Williams. However, her nervousness and lack of
confidence leads her hands to shake and her to stumble all over the dance floor. In fact, she is so
uncomfortably nerve racking that Manson leaves her on the edge of the floor alone.
He took his hand from my waist and dropped my arm. See you he said. He walked away.
Since the girl is not confident about herself, she is unable to be at ease around others, especially
those of the opposite sex. Her discomfort actually makes the people in her presence feel
apprehensive. Due to this, she views herself as a loser and an exile, (see quotation below), one of
the reasons why she dislikes school and social events. Her apprehensiveness makes her body shut
down and unable to function.
I myself was not angry or surprised at Manson; I accepted his position, and mine, in the world of
school and I saw that what he had done was the realistic thing to do. He was a Natural Hero...

Guns are usually put into three main types: handguns, rifles, and shotguns. In the United States, in
2014 there were around 14,249 murders committed, 68% of them committed with some sort of
firearm. (http://www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp). According to procon.org most Americans,
gun owners included, are in support of the new gun laws and restrictions. (http://gun
control.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=006436). Also, on rense.com it states that,
though crime and gun control are often associated with one another, they aren t always partners
in crime when the crime occurs. While yes there are approximately 30,000 deaths by firearm
each year, not all of it is criminal related. 65% of those deaths are suicides, and 15% of the deaths
are caused by the police or other law enforcers. That makes up 80% of the deaths by firearms.
These are things that are rarely discussed by media. In contrast to this, it is not required for
someone to pass a background check before purchasing a gun. This includes people who are
known to have severe mental illnesses, felons, and/or criminals. From January of 2012 to
November of that same year the government completed nearly 16.8 million background checks
on gun purchases. That number was the highest since 1998. In an article on U.S.A. Today it
states that December of 2015 was the last time that the Senate held a vote in regards towards gun
legislation. This vote was held after two shooters, husband and wife, killed 14 people. This was
the event that took place in San Bernardino. At the time of that vote there were four proposals.
After the voting took place all four of them were shot down. In addition to the San Bernardino
shooting, the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school, which killed twenty six people had
created proposals on the issue of gun control as well. Those were, too, defeated. It has become

The process of segmenting and profiling allows better decision making to the ones handling
markets and its differences. The significance is added to the geographic and other variables
which make help differentiate the product in the group of target customers. The differences in
consumer preference and behavior are because of the changes in their perception regarding the
features of the product, the usage dimensions, purchase readiness and the emotional connection
with the brand. The point of equilibrium, i.e. the point where demanded quantity is equal to
supplied quantity is given by the following equation, where QD= Quantity demanded, QS=
Quantity supplied QD = 5200 42P + 20PX + 5.2I + .20A + .25M QD = 5200 42P + 20*600 +
5.2*5500 + .20*10000 + .25*5000 QD = 42P + 38650 QS = 7909.89 + 79.1P Here, 26770 42P =
7909.89 + 79.0989P Or, P = $286.38 QD is 14742 units Thus, the point of equilibrium is at price
of $286.38 and quantity of 14742 units. Given the scenario, there is the high importance of
customer profiling for the purposes of market segmentation. For this, the identified variables of the
profile need to be considered. The target market for the whole food industry is determined by the

15. Is Paul A Good Writer
Is Paul a good writer? is a very interesting question. When we say good writer are we talking
about his skills in the language he used to write (Greek) or are we asking the question if his
writings made any difference in people s lives during his time as well our time. Basing on what
we know about Paul s education with or during the time of Gamaliel in Jerusalem 1 one can
argue Paul well educated to write. Paul s pastoral ministry resulted in planting the churches and
equipping leaders for the ministry in his time and continues to guide us in our current ministry.
Therefore, I can say with confidence Paul indeed is a good writer. However, we still have to
consider some facts scholars have been working hard to bring to our attention. Traditionally, the
church had simply assumed that any letter containing Paul s name as a sender was actually written
by him. Of the 27 books in the New Testament, 14 have been attributed to Paul; 7 of these are

The Bicycle Thief The Bicycle Thief is probably the best known and most highly praised of all
the Italian Neorealist films of its era. The films of the Neorealist movement were characterized
by several primary ideas. Instead of featuring stories focusing on glitz and glamour, Neorealist
films focused on the poor and the working class. Instead of building and fabricating complex sets
to film on, they did their filming on location. And instead of trying to get the most well known,
highly paid celebrity actors, they frequently used people that weren t even professional actors and

stories. The Bicycle Thief takes place in Rome during a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pope Admiring Belinda in The Rape of the Lock
The main character of Pope s The Rape of the Lock could be considered both hailed and damned
by the overseer, but the complexities and sometimes contradictions of Belinda spark a more
unbiased view.
The appearance of Belinda and the world in which she lives is described in a very fantastical and
beautiful way. Even small details such as the arrangement of Belinda s hair are due to wondrous
entities known as the Sylphs, whose sole task is to make sure she is looking her best. This
consideration of appearance in The Rape of the Lock is very important as the society that Belinda
lives within is very judgmental on the basis of appearance, especially for women. Her role

In many couplets he pairs something epic, which starts off the couplet, with a trivial anti climax.
The method of writing within
The Rape of the Lock is mock epic and serves the purpose of criticising the negative themes within
the poem by revealing them to the extreme.
Although Belinda is very superficial she does have an aura that makes her admirable, and Pope
does not look over this. She makes it known that she is quite pure and innocent and with this
innocence it is easier to overlook to the arguably negative traits that she holds. The social rules
within her society mean that she is condoned to act the way she does and through her innocence
she does. She is arguably innocent considering sex and her own sexuality even though she
portrays as beautiful an image as she can. Her physical gifts though could be argued, in her eyes,
to be prettiness and nothing to do with sexuality. Understanding the possibility of her being
innocent, there are also undercurrents that she is not so pure as she would have the other people
within the poem believe. As an example, after the lock is stolen she tells the Baron that he could
have had a more private lock of hair of her own free will. Although all that can be ordained is
assumptions, through the language that Pope uses it is pretty safe to assume that the innuendo in
her speech is intentional.

reach to the United States. In July 2009, the Justice Department charged Levy Rosenbaum, an
Israeli in New York, with conspiracy of human organ trafficking. A Federal Bureau of
Investigation agent caught Rosenbaum offering a kidney for $160,000 (Budiani Saberi 37).
Laws designed to prevent trafficking are currently unsuccessful. While prosecutors in places such
as Israel, Brazil, Kosovo and Ukraine have successfully eliminated some of the organ trading
gangs, they re still fighting powerful economic forces. As long as there s a worldwide shortage of
legal donors for life saving transplants, the exploitation of the poor will only grow. Unless
governments around the world enforce existing laws on prohibiting procedures, the traffickers will
continue to cultivate a growing legion of impoverished organ sellers who end up with an immense
wad of cash, says Glovin (Budiani Saberi 39 40). As a result, suspicions of organ trades between
Hong Kong and China in 1989 caused the Tiananmen Square massacre arose. The Amnesty
International noted an increase in China s submissions for the death penalty, and reported on the
use of executed prisoners organs without their consent. Dr. Ronald D. Guttman, a McGill
University professor, showed that after 1989, about ninety percent of China s transplants came from
executed prisoners. Along with Ronald Guttman was Forsythe stating that

19. Why Is Prince Hamlet Insane
Is Prince Hamlet insane?
If a person walks into a room in a suit, they look professional. If a male walks into a room
holding another males hand, he is presumed to be gay. So if a young man walks into a room, and
he wears sorrow and anger on his face, he must be insane. Yet, if you change your perspective that
man wearing a suit may look professional, until he opens his mouth. The male holding the others
hand is not in fact gay, that is his brother. Hamletis ideally pretending to be insane, but is his
insanity really an act? That question is answered not at first glance, but at first in depth observation.
In some instances of this play Hamlet does convince many that he is insane.
To begin, in some instances his actions are to great, too bizarre to be an act, so in some moments
the young prince may be a bit off his rocker, but who does not seem a little odd once in a while.
After seeing this play acted out, I came to the conclusion, Hamlet is not in fact mad he is simply
human. Some reasons I think the young prince Hamlet is not insane are, he shows compassion
towards many people; especially the lady Ophelia. The turmoil he has suffered would make any
normal person behave at least semi abnormally, and he works through his emotions in an abnormal
way to us, but to him it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mother, and sleeping in your fathers bed. Wanting revenge is only natural. In Hamlets time death

in the prince s time it was the only way to go. Killing the person who did wrong was the first
instinct. Hamlet desiring Claudius dead was only natural, not mentally insane

Perceptions of Britain
Many events happened during the period of time between 1763 1775, that changed Americans
mindset from then until now. Certain people and certain events during this time frame affected the
nation of the United States enormously. This time period changed the United States for better and
for worse. Certain people like Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams, tenaciously tried to change the
course of history; haven wars, such as the French and Indian war altered the perception of the
American people. These events and people were some of the many facilitated with the defiance
against the British. This essay will show how these altercations turned the People of the newly
formed Americas against the British.
During the time of 1763 1775 one of the occurrences that happened to affect the colonist s
perception of the British was the French and Indian War. The amazing thing is that the war itself
was not the main factor of the colonist s trouble with the British, but the time after the war that was
the cause of trouble. During the war the British fought with France around the Ohio valley for the
control of land. The Ohio valley was very important to both of the empires, because of the value of
the land and the strategic point it held in the years to come. Although both had their struggles
especially with the Native Americans that called this place their home. Most of the Native
Americans sided with either the British or the French, because they thought that if they had

This is an example of humanity s evils because Hitler had gone so far that even Death himself was
stunned and surprised at Hitler s murderous intent. Another example of dehumanization would be
Hitler s view of Jews. It is evident that Hitler didn t see the Jews as actual people, and proceeded
to kill them without a second thought. The fact that eleven million people lost their life because of
Adolf Hitler is proof of his lack of humanity. Everyone is bound to die sometime. The narrator of
The Book Thief is Death, who appears whenever someone is close to death and has immortality,
unlike humans. Loss is an existing theme in the story because throughout the story, Liesel
experiences many different cases of loss first hand. At the very beginning of the book, Liesel
watches her brother die in front of her own eyes, while also losing her mother. The impact of
loss is especially great when the bombing comes. Liesel finds her best friend, Rudy, dead, as well
as her foster parents. She is also overwhelmed by the fact that there is a high chance Max is gone
forever. Even after being confronted with such loss at a young age, she keeps living and stays
with Ilsa Hermann. Survivor s guilt is also apparent in the book because it lives in both Liesel and
Hans Hubermann. Liesel not only feels this guilt after the bombing, but throughout the whole book
as well. She is traumatized after she loses her own brother and after

23. Impact Of Technology On The Banking Industry
Changing Technologies The change and advancement in technology are a significant factor in the
banking business. Technology has led to tremendous improvements in this industry. Since the
commencement of this millennium, people have shown great love for their mobile phones
(Ozaki 1992). It necessitated the invention of mobile applications (APPs). From the introduction
of the mobile banking, APP people rarely go to the banks. All their transactions get done simply
by the stroke of a finger. Businesses face a challenge of adapting to changes in the technology
sector. Mobile banking either through actual investing or any other means is on the rise.
According to the most recent Federal Reserve study; most of us haven t set foot in a banking hall

transactions (Gup 2003). By December of last year, close to half of all smartphone users in the
United States had transacted some or all of their banking on their phones and iPhones. In the
United Kingdom alone, rates of mobile banking transactions doubled over the course of a single

When one has a history of car racing talent, passion for automobiles and enthusiasm, one can start

After Lionel Martin emerged victorious out of the famed Aston Hill race, Aston Martinwas founded

fitting a four cylinder Coventry Simplex engine to a 1908 Isotta Fraschinni chassis. However, the
First World War shattered their plans of starting production as both car makers joined the army.
Down but not out, Aston Martin prevailed as soon as the War was over, with the company being

potential of the brand and poured heavy funds into its rejuvenation.

25. The Infinity Inside By Georg Cantor
Introduction
While perusing certain articles on the news aggregator app Flipboard, I came across a blog post
from the Huffington Post entitled The Infinity Inside. The compelling title gave way to an even
more intriguing body, which referred to infinity not in mathematical terms but as an abstract
principle that governs the universe. This encounter instigated a profound curiosity in me, spurring
me to investigate the concept of infinity further; after searching how large is infinity on the
Internet, I discovered a TedEd video exploring the central question How Big is Infinity? This video
introduced me to the idea that there exist multiple forms of infinity, many of which are actually
larger than each other. This prompted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To define infinity, I will first explain the underlying logical framework of Cantor s Infinite Set
Theory. To prove the existence of multiple, larger infinities, I will work through Cantor s Theorem
of power sets. Through listing, I will also explore the different types of possible infinities and test
whether or not it is true that all mathematical objects can be arranged in sets.
Basic Concepts of Set Theory
Set theory is considered a fundamental basis of modern mathematics whose notions can be built
upon to form more complex areas of study. A set is simply a collection of objects . These objects
are called members or elements of the set and are governed by well defined membership criteria.
In order to know whether or not an object belongs or does not belong to a set, there must be clear
rules that delineate which objects are acceptable for inclusion. For example, if we had a set of all
prime numbers, the number 4 could not belong to the set as it has more positive divisors than just
1 and itself it violates the specific criteria for membership in the set.
There are two types of sets as defined by Georg Cantor: finite and infinite. A finite set is simply
one whose size, or cardinality, can be defined by a natural number. Cardinality describes the
number of elements contained in a set. The members of any set (finite or infinite) can be placed in a

Explain why the NPV approach is preferred to the IRR approach (2006)

for the same period of time but one project was deferred for one year, using the NPV we would
have different values but the IRR would give us the same.
The NPV approach takes into account the scale of the project and the IRR does not. For example

2. It is possible to separate a firm s investment decisions from the firm s financial decisions.

Explain the concepts of business risk and financial risk. (/2010)
Business risk is the possibility that a company will have lower than anticipated profits, or that it will
experience a loss rather than a profit. Business risk is influenced by competition, economic climate,
government regulation amongst others. A company with a higher business risk should choose a
capital structure that has a lower debt ratio to ensure that it can meet its financial obligations at all
times. The ratios used to evaluate business risk include the contribution margin ratio, operating
leverage ratio, financial leverage ratio and total leverage ratio.
Financial risk is the possibility that shareholders will lose money when they invest in a company
that has debt, if the company s cash flow proves inadequate to meet its financial obligations. When
a company uses debt financing, its creditors will be repaid before its shareholders if the company
becomes insolvent. Investors can use a number of ratios to evaluate financial

28. Diesel Engines Are The Best
My dad and I have always argued about which type of engine was better. My dad thinks that gas
engines are the best. I think that diesel engines are the best. The diesel engine has a better design
for all around usability than a gas engines. First, the weight of diesel engines are on average is
1,100 pounds. The engine has to be built stronger, because the compression ratio is a lot higher.
As it runs, the pistons compress air to an extreme heat, and as it reaches top dead center, the fuel
is injected into the combustion chamber. The fuel being injected directly in the hot air results in
a highly destructive explosion that drives the piston down creating power. In addition, it makes
the iconic diesel knock sound. Gas engines are built weaker because the compression ratio is
lower. If a gas engine had the same compression ratio as a diesel, it would not even start to run
because it would blow up at idle. The gasoline engine has spark plugs that ignites the fuel. They
don t need to compress air to an extreme heat like the diesels do. As the pistons travel up, the air
fuel mixture is introduced into the combustion chamber. The air fuel mixture just sits there for a
split second, and then the plug sparks and ignites the fuel. This is why the gasoline engines are
lighter than diesel. In addition, the weight of a diesel enginealso effects the usable power band. The
power band is at what rotation per minute (RPM) the power kicks in. RPM is how fast the
crankshaft is spinning in

This paper is to critically discuss two alternative dispute resolution processes, which are the
negotiation and mediation. The importance of these two alternative dispute resolution processes is
mainly related to various noticeable benefits associated comparing to the traditional litigation
process (Ruh, 2015). Specifically, it is to discuss the different strategies for negotiation, which can
be applicable to the dispute between Johnny, Sally, and David. Thus, David is to be advised of the
most effective and efficient negotiation strategy he should use based on the comparison between
different negotiation strategies in terms of respective benefits and drawbacks. In addition, it is also
to advise David, Johnny, and Sally regarding the benefits and costs of using a mediator, in the
context of the dispute between them.
Negotiation is one of the commonly used alternative dispute resolution processes, where different
strategies can be implemented. Brett (2015) states that the determining goals would be a direct
factor to determine which strategy to be used. This means that the disputed parties should take into
account of the relative importance of substantive outcomes and relational outcomes in order to
determine whether the collaborative, accommodating, competitive, or avoidance strategy should be
implemented in order to help them achieve their goals (Brett, 2015). Therefore, each of the

31. The Complex Subject of Minimum Wage in Our Economy
The legally established minimum wage is a complex aspect of our economy. On the surface, the
idea is simple: the minimum wage fixes the minimum hourly amount an employer must pay his
employee. But at a deeper level, calculating the economic impact of a minimum wage is a
challenging task full of projections and speculations, and with this uncertainty comes contentious
political debate. Economic liberals argue that the minimum wageshould be aggressively raised,
while conservatives argue that it should remain at its current state.
Ultimately, a combination of historical evidence, economic analysis, and an understanding of
psychology suggest that we should not raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage makes low
skill work less affordable to employers, meaning that fewer people can be hired. Since work
experience is a vital part of building a successful career, this means that fewer people will have the
opportunity to move up the economic ladder. Rather than institute a simple, short term minimum
wage increase, extensive training programs should be implemented to help give low skill workers
real world knowledge and skills. Likewise, employers should be granted tax incentives for hiring
more employees.
The minimum wage has had an effect upon our economy for over 75 years. When the Fair Labor
Standards Act was signed into law by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938, it set a federal
minimum wage, stipulations for overtime, and minimum working conditions for child labor

her writing. Something that was very unusual about her writing was that she never put a title to her
poems. Just like many poets, she used a wide assortment of literary devices such as, metaphor,

36. Persuasive Essay On The American Flag
The US flag is a symbol of great pride (Hills 2016). Ethan D. Hill from the University of Georgia
states this, just as all Americans should know this. The American flag is a representation for the
strength and power of this country and all that it has gone through. With that being said, not
everyone sees the American flag in this way. Some take it upon themselves to show firsthand
disrespect to the flag in desecrating it. Desecration is the act of burning something, in this case it
is burning the flag that symbolizes the freedom of this great nation. It is obvious to most that this
act should be illegal, seeing as there is no reason good enough to hurt the country in this way;
however, some Americans believe otherwise. The American flag not only stands for pride, freedom,
and strength but the colors on the flag have a meaning behind them that all Americans should
understand. In a description of the flag on a website dedicated solely to the Flag of the United States

California. He spent much of his childhood on ranches and the streets of Oakland, as well as
sailing on San Francisco Bay. During his teenage years, London fell into strange and unfulfilling
jobs that led to a personal revelation about the importance of an education. London spent a few
months educating himself on both high school and college material, but when word of
discovered gold in the Klondike spread, London, at the age of twenty one, left his home to
participate in the hunt for treasure. He published a short story collection called The Son of the
Wolf in 1900 and three years later his novel The Call of the Wild awarded him new fame and
notoriety. After a successful career as a writer, London died in 1916 at the age of forty (Walker 1).

pulled beneath the waves, Van Weyden jumps overboard and struggles in the freezingwater.

To my surprise, Katelyn decided that hiking was a great idea, and I guess I should have figured
as much from the get go that a witch would like to be close to Mother Nature. Because
everything I had heard about Wiccans up to that point, was that they based a good chunk of
their religion on the earth and being one with nature. But for some reason I had given myself the
impression that Katelyn wasn t the sort of girl who d liked to get down and dirty in the woods. I

The purpose of this report is to discuss the WHS shortcomings that our company is facing. As an
organization, we have a range of duties, responsibilities and obligations, from the PCBU,
management, HSR personnel, officers and workers. Everyone has a responsibility and duty to
themselves and each other. As you are aware, a supervisor from our company attempted to hold a
meetingto discuss a specific hazard and he came across multiple barriers that hindered him in his
goal. This report will identify our legislative requirements for consultation and participation,
processes that we could implement internally and externally, and my input if I am given the
authority and resources by management.
There are several legislative requirements for consultation and participation. According to the
WHS Act 2012 Section 47 (1), The person conducting a business or undertaking must, so far as is
reasonably practicable, consult, in accordance with this Division and the regulations, with workers
who carry out work for the business or undertaking who are, or are likely to be, directly affected by
a matter relating to work health or safety. This dutyplaced on the PCBU is based on the fact that
worker input and participation in WHS policies improves outcomes for workers and reduces work
related injuries. Section 49 (a) of the WHS Act identifies A person conducting a business or
undertaking must consult with workers when identifying hazards and assessing risks to health and
safety arising

thing was not as good as it was before. Disillusionment is revealed when Mr. Doran understood

this is my explanation on why I didn t choose the other questions. As for the reason why I choose
this question I think it s easy to answer why this particular class session was my favorite and
analyze the films against or for the controversial topic. Nevertheless I should probably answer to
the question i ve choosen, so my favorite class session is the one about gay rights which we
watch Angels in America. The reason I even liked this class session is the movie Angels in

The History of Training As stated earlier in the paper the course content has undergone several
changes over the past 10 years. The beauty industry has continued to grow nationally through the
economic downturn, with an 18 percent increase in the number of salons nationwide over the
past three years. The cosmetology industry never dies down, even in a recession, says Michelle
Woodard, admissions coordinator for Douglas J Aveda Institute in Grand Rapids. Everyone will
always want to look beautiful. At the outset of this period there was little demand for specialised
treatments. Therefore, the training requirements were geared up to obtain a standard set of skills
for all graduates. Over the past 3 years, as treatments become more varied, the courses have had
to adapt and offer more diverse qualifications. The awarding bodies have had to be aware that
during this period of transition too many employers remain confused and bewildered by the skills
infrastructure. (BBC News 13.11.08). This is due to the qualification constantly changing and
salon owners not being made aware of these changes. This has been a factor the awarding bodies
have had to consider when implementing any changes. Courses used to involve the student
attending college 5 days a week. This has been changed for two reasons. The colleges have looked
to reduce costs whilst maintaining the same level of attendees. Also, many students could not make
