1) Cadmium oxide thin films doped with 2% indium were deposited on glass substrates using spray pyrolysis with cadmium acetate solutions of varying molar concentrations. 2) The films were found to be polycrystalline with a cubic structure and preferential orientation along the (111) crystallographic direction. Higher molar concentrations increased packing density and further oriented the crystallites along the (111) plane. 3) Optical transmission of the films increased with both wavelength and molar concentration. Band gap energies ranged from 2.3 to 2.45 eV depending on the molar concentration of the solution used, with higher concentrations resulting in higher band gap energies.

The structural and optical properties of the films have been characterized by X-ray diffraction study and UV spectroscopy. The crystal structure of the deposited films were found to be polycrystalline of cubic structure with preferentially orientated along (111) crystallographic directions. Increase of molar concentration increases the films packing density and reorient the crystallites along (1 1 1) plane. There is an ancease in the optical transmissions for all films with increasing in the wavelength and molar concentration . For different molar concentrations (0.1M ,0.2 M, and 0.3M), the direct band gap is found to be in the range( 2.3 ,2.35,and 2.45 eV) . The band gap energies depend on molar concentration of solution.$

This study examines the x-ray diffraction of multilayer cadmium sulfide (CdS)/polyaniline thin films. CdS and polyaniline films were prepared using vacuum evaporation. X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the structural properties of single-layer CdS films on glass and multilayer films with polyaniline deposited on CdS/glass. The x-ray patterns showed the CdS films had a preferred orientation along the (100) reflection plane and the multilayer films had a preferred orientation of the hexagonal wurtzite structure.

In this article, different substrates for deposition of CdS material have been discussed. Till date glass, mica, quartz, ceramic, etc. are commonly employed substrates in thin film growth. In the present work, CdS is deposited on Teflon substrate by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. Also the films were deposited on different substrates like glass, copper and zinc and compared with those prepared on Teflon substrate. The films prepared on Teflon substrate were uniform, stable and also showed good radiating property. These films were further characterized by UV-VIS absorption spectral studies, SEM and EDS studies.

Solid-Phase Epitaxy of Atomic Layer Deposited PrAlO3 Films

Yajin Chen presented her work on the use of solid-phase epitaxy to create epitaxial complex-oxide interfaces that have promising electronic properties at the APS March Meeting 2019 in Boston, MA. The presented work is a part of a collaborative project with Prof. Charles H. Winter’s group in the Department of Chemistry at Wayne State University. Epitaxial RAlO3/SrTiO3 (R = La, Pr, Nd) oxide interfaces can produce a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), but the creation of those interfaces is limited to 2D geometries. Intricate geometries of epitaxial oxide thin films can be created by crystallizing the amorphous layers with thermal heating, which is termed solid-phase epitaxy. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is employed to deposit the amorphous layers because ALD allows for the conformal deposition of thin films over non-planar surfaces. Prof. Winter’s group successfully developed the growth of amorphous PrAlO3 thin films by ALD. Epitaxial PrAlO3 thin films were achieved on single-crystal (001) SrTiO3 substrates with solid-phase epitaxy through the development of new ALD procedures, by understanding of the crystallization kinetics, and by probing the microstructure and interface structures of the crystallized thin films.
