Nano cellulose

Development and Characterization of Cardanol Based Polymer Reinforced Fibre B...
The emerging quest for optimal use of naturally obtained resources through advanced technigues and products has escalated research and exploration of naturally oriented renewable materials. In present investigation, cardanol, obtained from cashew nut shell liquid CNSL , was utilized as base material for a thermosetting polymer TP development. Furthermore, rice husks flour RHF was utilized as reinforcement for the TP. The fabricated biocomposite was characterized for microstructure, thermal behavior and biodegradability. Results from DSC and TG analysis revealed that the sample filled with 5 wt. NaOH modified RHF demonstrated most superior thermal stability, and tensile strength. Moreover, results from FESEM revealed uniform dispersion, and bonding to polymer matrix. Enhanced biodegradability was realized from NaOH modified RHF filled biocomposite post 90 days of monitored soil tests. Therefore, the cardanol obtained TP and biocomposites demonstrated good prospects for application in the electronics, automotive and furniture industry. Development and Characterization of Cardanol Based Polymer Reinforced Fibre B...
The emerging quest for optimal use of naturally obtained resources through advanced technigues and products has escalated research and exploration of naturally oriented renewable materials. In present investigation, cardanol, obtained from cashew nut shell liquid CNSL , was utilized as base material for a thermosetting polymer TP development. Furthermore, rice husks flour RHF was utilized as reinforcement for the TP. The fabricated biocomposite was characterized for microstructure, thermal behavior and biodegradability. Results from DSC and TG analysis revealed that the sample filled with 5 wt. NaOH modified RHF demonstrated most superior thermal stability, and tensile strength. Moreover, results from FESEM revealed uniform dispersion, and bonding to polymer matrix. Enhanced biodegradability was realized from NaOH modified RHF filled biocomposite post 90 days of monitored soil tests. Therefore, the cardanol obtained TP and biocomposites demonstrated good prospects for application in the electronics, automotive and furniture industry. Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose Nanofibers From Coconut Coir Fibers
This document describes the synthesis and characterization of cellulose nanofibers from coconut coir fibers. Coconut coir fibers were treated with chemicals like sodium hydroxide and acids to isolate cellulose. The fibers were then mechanically treated through ball milling to reduce their size. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed the resulting cellulose nanofibers had widths between 30-90 nm. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the crystalline and chemical structure of the nanofibers. The study demonstrated a method to produce cellulose nanofibers from coconut coir waste.

Novel Anticoagulant from Date Palm Leaf/Cellulose Nano Whisker
ABSTRACT: Nature inspires us to develop new high performance materials from its renewable resources and among these cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs) are most popular due to their unusual properties and resulting applications. In this work, cellulose nanocrystals were extracted by acid hydrolysis and the anticoagulant activity of surfaces decorated with cellulose nanocrystals is explored. Such surfaces bear a high amount of negatively charged sulfate groups, which mimic the naturally occurring anticoagulant heparin in terms of charge density. It is observed that CNC decorated surfaces significantly enhance the coagulation times of blood plasma and whole blood as studied from Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation studies (QCM-D) and simple clotting tests. Cellulose nanocrystals bear a high amount of negatively charged sulphate groups which resemble the charge density of natural anticoagulant Heparin. Anticoagulant effect of functionalized cellulose nanocrystals was demonstrated by clinical test. This new material is potentially applicable in medicine as anticoagulant similarly as common heparin.

This document describes a study on Pickering emulsions stabilized by bacterial cellulose nanocrystals (BCNs) obtained through hydrochloric acid hydrolysis of bacterial cellulose. The BCNs were shown to stabilize hexadecane-in-water emulsions, forming monodisperse droplets around 4 μm in diameter that were stable for months. Scanning electron microscopy visualized BCN particles adsorbed at the droplet interfaces. Above a 60% surface coverage threshold, the droplets became highly stable and deformable, attributed to irreversible particle adsorption and network formation. Due to their sustainability and low environmental impact, BCN-stabilized emulsions could enable new environmentally friendly materials.

Cod Removal Of An Industrial Effluent Using Nan crystalline Ceria Synthesized...
Nanocrystalline ceria (CeO2) was prepared by solution combustion method using cerium nitrate as oxidizer and citric acid as fuel. The as-formed CeO2 nanopowder was characterized by Powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The nanoparticles were found to be agglomerated, fluffy and porous with a mean crystallite size of about 20 nm. The as-formed ceria nanopowder was used for the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) of an industrial effluent. The effect of various factors such as pH, dosage of nanopowder, stirring time and sedimentation time was studied. It was found that more than 89% removal of COD could be achieved at a pH of 4, for a catalyst dosage of 0.8g of the nanopowder per liter of the industrial effluent with a sedimentation time of about 80 minutes.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too.
