Datamining group final version Essay
Data Mining Turn in your answers, along with excerpted output as relevant. In this assignment,
we will explore RFM segmentation, a technique used to group customers according to their
aggregate purchase history with a company. We specifically look at how recently customers
have purchased (R recency), how often they have purchased (F frequency), and how much they
have spent (M monetary). We will then consider how these different segments responded to the
offer to buy The Art History of Florence. Use the CUSTOMER.SAV dataset for all parts of this
assignment. Team members: WANG MAOXIN 53869782 LIU YI 53699531 YANG RONGRONG

HINT: Suppose a customer has the following individual index values: R = 2 F = 1 M = 4 The
resulting RFM index would be 214. You can create such an index with the following formula: RFM

Use the transform/Rank Case to break the sample into 10 deciles. Make sure you specify lower the
rank the better it is. Generate a report showing number of customers per RFM segment, and the
response rate to the offer to buy The Art History of Florence per RFM segment (remember that the
response rate is the mean of the BUYERS variable). HINT: use Analyze/Reports/Case Summaries)

Brandon Teen Driving In The Night
SUMMARY The film opens with Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank) driving in the night. He is
going with his cousin, Lonny (Matt McGrath), an older boy who is gay, to a skating rink. Lonny
warns Brandon against behaving dangerously. Brandon ignores him and enters the rink, which
seems magical to him. There Brandon meets with a girl. Later, we see them kissing outside her
home, and Brandon chivalrously tells her he won t leave until he knows she is safely inside. But
later, Brandon is chased by a group of young men, one of whom is related to the girl, and all of
whom are yelling homosexual related insults and threats. Brandon seeks protection in Lonny s

mother. Meanwhile, Brandon has written Lana to tell her that he s in jail. She asks why
Brandon is in the female section, and he lies: he tells her he was born a hermaphrodite, but will
soon receive a sex change operation to correct his condition. Lana declares her love for Brandon,
no matter what she is and the two leave the jail joyously, and then have sex in her car. Nissen and
Lotter are extremely angered by the discovery that Brandon is really a girl in their opinion, she
is a lesbian. They are on a rampage looking for Brandon, whom they find at Lana s mother s
house, together with Lana. They force Brandon to strip off his pants, to reveal to Lana his true
identity. Lana only looks when forced to. Later, Nissen and Lotter pursue Brandon and violently

Crime And Punishment And The Idiot Analysis
Everyone is the same, only different. People need the same things to survive, such as food, water,
shelter, and clothing, so in that sense, everyone is the same. Their differences come from their own
unique dispositions and temperaments. Crime and Punishment and The Idiot, two of Dostoevsky s
novels, have two very seemingly similar protagonists, creating an illusion for the readers. When in
reality, the characters can be labeled as being near opposites. Through the use of the novels of
Crime and Punishment and The Idiot, Dostoevsky creates the protagonists of each novel similarly,
but alters their destinies to differentiate them. It seems that Dostoevsky has created a pattern in his
novels, as they concern themselves with behavioral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alienation occurs to both protagonists of Crime and Punishment and The Idiot. Alienation can be
defined as the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity. For both
Raskolnikov and Myshkin, they are both isolated from society, whether society isolates them or
they isolate themselves from society. Raskolnikov isolates himself from society early on in the
novel because of his presumptuous mentality and theories. His extraordinary man theory dictates
his life and motivates him to commit a murder. In an explanation of his theory to Porfiry
Petrovich, the murder investigator, Raskolnikov says: I only believe in my leading idea that men
are in general divided by a law of nature into two categories, inferior (ordinary), that is, so to say,
material that serves only to reproduce its kind, and men who have the gift or the talent to utter a
new word. (Crime 141) He labels those men who have these gifts and talents as extraordinary men
and places himself into that category. He believes that he is the best and better than everyone else
in the world. After murdering Alyona Ivanovna, something unexplainable happens to Raskolnikov:
Something was happening to him entirely new, sudden and unknown. It was not that he understood,
but he felt clearly with all the intensity of sensation that he could never more appeal to these people
in the police office with sentimental effusions like his recent outburst, or with anything whatever;
and that if they had been his own

Law and Equity
Law and Equity Essay
(a) Outline the development of common law and equity.
There was no system of law in England and Wales before 1066, as it was mainly based on
customs which were just rules of behaviour and the other used to be the decisions of judges. The
law in England and Wales built over the centuries. There were various methods of creating laws
which were called sources of law . However, in the 18th Century Parliament became more powerful
which lead the Acts of Parliament (statues) to be the main sources of law today. Decisions made by
the judges are also essential today as they interpreted Parliamentary law where there was no statue
law. During the twentieth century statue law and judicial decisions continued to be the major ...

The chancellor dealt with so many claims that in 1474 he was given his own court named as Court
of Chancery this is when a new law came into place named equity meaning fairness.
Equity historically had been an important source and still plays a vital role with many of our legal
concepts having developed from equitable principles. The word equity meaning fairness operates
on its meaning when adding to our law.
Equity and Common Law both systems functioned side by side and eventually a conflict
developed between these two systems and in that equity would frequently overruled common law
decisions and denied them. The problem was that the Common law courts would make an order
in the favour of the other party whereas the Chancery court would make an order in the favour of
the other party. This conflict was later solved in The Earl of Oxford s Case 1615 when the king
came to the decision that where there was conflict equity should prevail.
However, once the equity became a body of law rather that arbitrary exercise of conscience, there
was no reason that it needed its own court. Therefore, the two systems merged together by
Judicature Acts 1873 75 which established that equity and common law could both be administered
by all courts and provide the system we have today. Hence, common law advanced from customs
and on the other hand equity established from the problems in common law and today both systems
are delivered in all

Museum Szymborska Analysis
Time is a permanent fixture in our world. It is with us the moment we take our first breath and
when we close our eyes for the last time. We use it to arrange events, change our appearance to
look as if time has had no effect on us, and attach it to special moments in our lives . Szymborska
explores our relationship with time, and our aspiration to rebel against it, in her works Museum
(30), Landscape (70 71), and The People On The Bridge (218 219) found in Poems New and
Collected (Szymborska, 1998) by portraying time as an antagonist, showing how humans fight time,
as well as their attempts to achieve immortality through detritus objects and art. In both poems,

/ They have their own ways of expressing protest. (3) A museum is a place where works of art
and various objects of cultural and historical significance are collected and displayed to help
give a better understanding of the past. The poem Museum (30) speaks of various objects and
their relationship to humans, and how they have outlived their human counterparts. The crown
has outlasted the head. / The hand has lost out to the glove. / The right shoe has defeated the
foot. (16) Although we ultimately accept that humans cannot defeat time, we can use these
items as a means of achieving immortality. Szymborska offers a different perspective on how we
try to influence and organize these detritus items through rhyme. Ire (5) and hour (6), celebrate,
(11) and date (12) are all an emotion or a reference to time. These contrasts highlights the fact
that time is out of our control. The specific references to numbers, a way we place emphasis on
the significance of objects through time, are arbitrary. There are some three hundred years (3)
or the ellipsis and line break emphasises the fact that Eight (11) is irrelevant, this human attempt
at order is proven futile. Szymborska acknowledges that humans know we cannot physically
preserve ourselves, we can t defeat time, so instead humans have preserved themselves through
different objects, from plates, wedding rings, fans, swords, and lutes. In Museum, Szymborska
defamiliarizes how we perceive the objects found in a museum, instead describe a place that
preserves a collection of detritus items. The People On the Bridge (218 219) is an allusion to a
painting drawn by Hiroshige Utagawa with the same name. He has successfully preserved his
memory, described as a rebel; time has tripped and fallen down. (30) He has

Evolution Of The Islamic State
Introduction The so called Islamic State, also known as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) or
ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant), has captivated the world s attention as of late. Its brutal
tactics, vehement opposition to western influenced societal norms, and ultra radical interpretation
of Sharia law have sent scholars, journalists, government officials, and ordinary citizens into a
frenzy trying to comprehend this troubling phenomenon. ISIS is responsible for countless atrocities
to include horrific beheadings, immolation, and chilling video releases of hostages and ominous
threats. It has proven keenly adept at recruiting new members to its cause; these members hail from
many regions around the globe. Led by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The combination of these factors has greatly influenced the coalescence and successes of ISIS thus
far. Furthermore, I agree with Dr. Paul Staniland of the University of Chicago in determining that
ISIS represents what can be considered a vanguard insurgent organization, and has the potential to
coalesce into an integrated one in the future. Finally, ISIS shares several key similarities and
differences with notable Islamic political organizations and insurgent networks of the past few to
include the Palestinian Hamas and the Afghan Taliban. To properly analyze these factors of
development, relevant theoretical framework will be highlighted including insurgent cohesion and
development, alliance formation in civil wars and the factors determining levels of insurgent
violence. Second, a comparative study of the previously mentioned organizations will be utilized to
cross examine ISIS composition and behavior. Similarities and differences in organizational
structure and methodology between the case studies will be correlated. Finally, using existing
theory as well as relevant data from the case studies will lead to determining whether ISIS is truly
unique or merely a facsimile of other radical Islamic political insurgencies progressing through a
certain stage of development. The case studies

Requirement Of A Senator Essay
The requirement that you must be at least thirty years of age to sit as a senator is beyond
unreasonable in terms of representation in current day Canada. The Canadian voter turnout ages
eighteen to twenty four was in the range of thirty eight percent of the population as of 2011, with
2.9 million votingin the federal election (ElectionsCanada, 2012). This number is staggering and
proves that not only are more young Canadians interesting in democracyand governmental affairs
but that a large portion of Canadians are under the age of thirty and those diverse needs are not
being met or addressed in the Senate because of the age requirement. Those who serve as a
Senator and are at the age of requirement or over cannot feasibly understand and correlate with
such a large demographic if they are not directly part of that age group. With the numbers of
people under the age of thirty rising as well as people under the age of thirty involving themselves
in more governmental affairs, it is unrepresentative for that age group to not be a part of the Senate.

This requirement is perplexing because the diverse needs of youth and society in general is
constantly changing and if you are appointed till that age, there is little room for remarkably
consideration and acknowledgment for the changing societal and political environment of youth
(Boyer, 2014). An older senator may have more experience in the Senate and be a political and
economic elitist but they may also be reluctant to recognize new and innovative change. Today s
youth have adapted so drastically to technological advances and innovation and are more
susceptible to consider different points of view and provide a fresh perspective and understanding
of legislation that is unique to the evolution of

Disadvantages Of A Big Family
There are many different components that make up a family especially a big family. A common
misconception is that all people in a family are similar, but the truth is that in order to have a
family you have different people that love each other despite those differences. Most of the time
the largest part of a familyis the children, and the way that the kids interact is interesting. There are
five different categories that siblings really fall into that make up a family.
The superior one is the first type of sibling. This duty usually falls to the oldest in the family
which only makes sense because they often think that just because they came first that they
know best. They always make sure that you know what they think about your actions, and they
are kind enough to give constructive criticism even when not asked. How considerate! However,
being the all knowing sibling is not the only responsibility of this type. They also are either a
mommy or daddy s kid. This duty is taken extremely seriously, and they feel that it is absolutely
a necessity to defend their parent whenever their so called honor is in danger from another
sibling. How they protect their parent is actually quite simple where they will use a superbly
developed matter of fact tone to degrade their fellow kin back to kindergarten and ask questions
such as, Why are you so upset? or You know you don t have to yell. The key to this technique is to
make sure that this is all done in front of their parent in

On April 19th, 1995 in downtown Oklahoma City, there was a domestic terrorist bomb attack
on the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building. The blast killed 168 people and hundreds more were
injured and before September 11, 2001, it was considered the worst terrorist attack to take place
on U.S. soil (History.com, 2015). The bomb used was an Ammonium Nitrate Truck/Fertilizer

Teenage Suicide Is Becoming Increasingly More Common
A young person dying for any reason is a tragedy, so when a teenager takes his or her own life
due to frustrations, hopelessness, or loss of self worth, it is completely devastating. Young people
today are having to grow up in a world with high stress levels, confusion, discouragement, and pain;
sometimes it is just too hard for them to handle. Perhaps it is not surprising that teenage suicideis
becoming increasingly more common. Suicide has become the third leading causing of death in
adolescents today. All around the world teenagers are attempting to take, or successfully taking,
their own lives for many reasons, including forms of content on the Internet. A story published in
The Ledger written by Stephanie Allie demonstrates how this, unfortunately, happened to be
true for 12 year old, Rebecca Sedwick. On the morning of September 9th, 2013, instead of
getting on the school bus, Rebecca walked to an abandoned cement plant. The 12 year old
climbed to the top of a silo and jumped off, killing herself instantly. Later, Rebecca s mother,
Traci, told police that her daughter had been bullied by a group of middle school girls. Further
investigation showed that for over a year, Rebecca received hateful text messages and Facebook
posts from these girls, harassing, taunting, and humiliating her. Some of the messages went as far
as telling Rebecca to endure bodily harm, and that she did not deserve to live. The girls treated
Rebecca horribly all because she started dating someone

Moving Across The Country Essay
Changes in life are just there, some you can predict and others you can t. Sometimes changes are
huge and others are not. Some sudden changes in life are moving across the country, your mom

an enormous change to someone s life. I my personal experience moving across the country is
hard. Especially, when you go from the country to the city as I did. I had to go to a new school,

quality of tennis courts, as I will explain later. Trying to keep or increase the number of applicants
some marketing and managerial steps need to be taken, like commercial steps, change in the

variance, whereas exposure was not.
Thomsen s (2002) study Health and Beauty Magazine Reading and Body Shape concerns among a
group of college women, proposed testing a structural equation model which incorporates several
mediating processes through which beauty/fashion, health/fitness magazines might influence the
college age female s fear of being fat. He explores the potential direct and indirect effects of two
additional mediating influences: hope and the internalized belief that men expect women to be

preferences or expectations for female thinness were the strongest predictor of body shape and size

readings were directly linked to body shape and size concerns. Finally, hope was not influenced by
the reading, expected future weight gain and loss, and body shape and size concerns; this finding

Romantic Music Period
Did music ever reach a point to where all restraints seemed cast off and composers had the
opportunity to express musical freedom? Similar to the emotional and intense paintings done
through this time, the music during the Romantic Period also expressed heightened passion and
paralleled the trends in art. It lasted from circa 1825 1900. Looking at the musicians during this
time, the purpose of the music, and the things that characterized Romantic music, one will see how
things changed from the previous Classical period. Many of the great, famed musicians now
known today lived during the Romantic period. Some of the better known names included
Rossini, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, and Brahms. Gioachino Rossini, known for his
piece, The Barber of Seville, excelled in operas. His overtures grew to be extremely popular
pieces as well and are still played to this day. Felix Mendelssohn started his career early in life
and grew famous off his own overtures as well. Connecting with nature as many of the Romantic
composers, he composed the Fingal s Cave Overture which mirrors the waves and coasts of
Scotland. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovskygained his fame as the most well known Russian composer
through his ballets, such as Swan Lake and the Nutcracker Suite. FrГ©dГ©ric Chopin had many
different famous pieces with Nocturne No. 9 and Scherzo for piano No. 2 in B flat minor gaining
a place above the rest. His music left him as one of the most significant Romantic composers.

Women s Unequal Treatment Of Women
Virtually, every known society past and present, women have not been treated as an equal to men.
According to (UN NATIONS WEBSITE DEFINITON OF UNEQUAL TREATMENT of women
CITATION HERE)it is unequal treatment of individuals based on their gender. UN agencies and
most governments agree on the principle of genderinequality. The question at large is what
accounts for the difference between the rhetoric of equality and the reality of inequality? The single
aspect of gender inequality of men and women is that women obtain insufficient pay from their male
counterparts in the workforce. Throughout this paper the reader will recognize the role that the
international and traditional norms that society takes part of in women receiving equal pay.
Secondly, this essay will discuss the patriarchal manifestation within the women wage gap and how
it has been resisted by the government. Lastly, how different strategies are taking place in seeing
which areas to obtain equal pay for women.
The role that international and traditional norms have is that women are paid less than men.
Women in most countries earn on average only 60 to 75 per cent of men s wages (World Bank
Gender Data Portal 2014). On the international scene there are many laws and goals they state that
is equal or that should be equal pay between men and women, however, that does that seem to
happen. On average a woman makes approximately 77 cents on every dollar a man makes. The
factors are that women are more likely to

The Theory Of The Human Development
Part 1: Of the four major psychological theories (ecological, behavioral, humanistic,
psychoanalytic), which one(s) is/are most closely aligned with your personal belief system? All
four major Psychological theories are very significant, but based on my reading about all of them,
I can convey that the ecological theory is the most closely aligned with my personal belief system.
Part 2:
Why?
I chose this theory because it states that a person s development is influenced by everything in the
surrounding environment, such as: family values, home, peers, school, and neighborhood, among
others biological factors that play the dynamic roles in the human development. I will try to
explain it in a more simply way....and to be honest, I don t truly like the way the books describes it.
It was formulated by the renowned psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner. The ecological systems
theory embraces that we encounter diverse environments throughout our lifespan that may influence
our behavior in varying points. These systems consist of different aspects or levels of the
environment: the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem.
The microsystem s setting is the direct surroundings, we have in our lives and it is the small, close
environment a child subsists in. The ecological theory alleged that everything around a specific
student cause influence in his behavior. As a teacher, we have little or no control over all the
systems mentioned in this theory. However, we can

Walmart in China
Walmart in China
Introduction
Walmart, founded by Sam Walton in 1962, is the largest retail company in the world. The low cost
strategy and hence the Every Day Low Prices (EDLP) strategy allowed Walmart to outperform
competitors in the US. Besides having stores in the US, Walmart has also expanded its market
worldwide. Walmart s entry into China was not surprising, given its population and growth
potential. Nevertheless, Walmart China had been struggling with its sales volume. It was only
ranked twentieth in sales out of all the Chinese chain stores in 2005. Walmart s strategic move in
the US does not seem to be applicable in the Chinese market. Different factors in the Chinese market
blunted the cost advantage of Walmart. This paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intensity of rivalry is quite high in the Chinese retailing industry. Not only does Walmart China
have to compete with all the foreign retailers like Carrefour and Tesco, but also with the local ones.
The local retailers pose an even bigger threat to Walmart owing to their well established network and
prime locations. Moreover, exposing to foreign competition allows the local retailers to imitate the
foreigners techniques and hence improve their own supply chain efficiency. Also, the fact that the
local retailers have entrenched customer, supplier and distribution bases, further intensified the
rivalry in the retailing industry. (Farhoomand, 2006)
Lastly, the presence of income disparity in China makes the national merchandising plan more
challenging. China s Gini coefficient of 0.4 suggested that income inequality is at an alarming
level. There are poor individuals that cannot even afford buying daily necessity while the affluent
customers are constantly looking for luxurious products (Farhoomand, 2006). Given this huge
income disparity, Walmart China has been finding it difficult to develop its cost leadership strategy
as they cannot standardize their products easily and have to provide different products that meet
different customers needs.
Strategic Approaches and recommendations
All the factors in the Chinese retailing industry show that the cost leadership strategy adopted in the
US Walmart might not be applicable in China.

A Murder Is Anounced Play Themes
Drama Review
Introduction:
Greed, betrayal and deceit are words that accurately define Hobart Repertory Theatre Society s
abridged production of A Murder Is Announced directed by Don Gay. Calvin Christian School s
grade 9 12 drama classes and the Student Theatre Company attended this production on Thursday
the 7th of May at The Playhouse Theatre. This play is an adaptation of the famous book by author
Agatha Christie who is considered the 2nd best selling writer closely behind William Shakespeare.
Plot:
A murder is announced in the local newspaper and it reads that it would take place at Little

death. Is it a fake or a practical joke? No one will know until the lights go out! ... Show more

But the main theme in the book and the play is murder . The whole play revolves around this
mysterious murder, eventually we find out that the murder revolves around money. It shows us that
people will do anything and everything in the pursuit for money. The play has a universal theme,
meaning that everyone could relate to it. Not everyone has killed someone to get money, but
everyone can understand the lengths some people go to obtain what is not rightfully theirs,
especially money.
The style of the murder mystery is cosy . This means that this style of murder is not as
horrifying or violent as some other murders. The violence is toned down and is not as terrifying
because it is treated in a humorous way. Cosy murder mysteries aren t filled with blood and gore
so you could easily watch or read this type of murder without getting completely scared. Agatha
Christie used cosy murder mysteries a lot in her books and it considered the cosy queen .
A Murder Is Announced also addresses the idea of class and status. This play is set in England in
the 1950s and class and social structure defined society in that time.

The Violence Of The Watts Riot
The 1960s was a time for change. It promoted on going expectations of equality for all races. This
proved to be difficult for minorities. In August of 1965, civil unrest broke out, which lead to six
day revolt called the Watts Riot. Nearly thirty years later another riot broke out which caused even
greater damage and left an even greater impact in our history, the Rodney KingRiots. Both of these
events share similar qualities and devastating damages, however, their meanings are much harder
to decipher from one another. These impactful events in our society demonstrate how much there
needs to change in our society, especially when dealing with minorities. The Watts riots began in
the summer of 1965, in a city in Los Angeles called Watts. It all began with the arrest of a young
African American by a white California Highway Patrol officer. Now, it was not because he was
arrested for already doing something illegal, it was for the way the policeofficer treated the
individual. According to Lacine Holland, an eyewitness to the arrest, the officer took him and
threw him in the car like a bag of laundry and kicked his feet in and slammed the door. (Flournoy)
This caused lots of unrest among the fellow residents of Watts. This was just the beginning of
years of pent up oppression for the minorities, which participated in the event. Similarly, in 1992,
the Rodney King riots also arose due to the acquittal of four Los Angeles Police Departmentofficers
for their brutal beating

Definition Of A Neutral Question
There is no such thing as a neutral question. Evaluate this statement with reference to two areas
of knowledge. In order to evaluate this statement, we must clearly understand what is a neutral
question. A definition of a neutral question can be: A question asked in such a way that it does
not imply personal opinion or bias. I assume that a true question has to be neutral. If a question
reveals to be non neutral, the objectivity that defines a question doesn t exist anymore. It
becomes a statement or a judgement with a question make up. To develop the evaluation of this
statement, we have to figure out what are the conditions for a question to be neutral. The point
of a question is to request knowledge or information; it gives control over the direction taken to
fill in the request. One could argue that the initial choice of what question is asked, in itself, is a
form of bias and on those grounds, neutrality is impossible any time there is a question. For this
reason, it might be good to think of neutrality on a continuum with some questions being more
neutral than others. Examples of neutral questions can be identified as: Can you describe the
kind of information you would like to find? Or what are you hoping to find? A neutral question
can then be defined as a bias free enquiry for knowledge. For my Areas of Knowledge I will be
referencing Ethics and Natural sciences. What is neutrality? Neutrality is about not going forward
or backward or taking a side. Neutrality

DURING THE VISIT TO THE CENTER As I approached the Center, I could feel myself growing
nervous. However, this is not an uncommon feeling for me, as I often feel nervous when there is
timing involved. I never want to arrive too early nor too late I want to be exactly on time. As I
came up to the Center I began to realize what some of my expectations had been (I had attempted
to think about these before I went to the event, but I realized that I wasn t sure what I was
expecting until I got there and felt that my expectations were either confirmed or denied). The

I was not expecting a converted house, but rather some sort of stand alone building, perhaps like

How Does Michael Moore Use Satire In Bowling For Columbine
At first glance, Michael Moore s documentary Bowling for Columbine appears to highlight the
ubiquitous issue of gun violence in the United States. However, in actuality, the documentary
exposes the fear mongering that exacerbates Americans affinity for violence through the use of
satire in cartoons and interviews. To begin, Moore summarizes the history of America with a
satirical cartoon that depicts Americans as cowardly people. It is evident from the cartoon that
America has a history of fear mongering since citizens are always fearful of something, whether it
be the Aboriginals or African Americans disrupting the picturesque Caucasian suburbia, all without
a probable cause. As a result, citizens utilize this mentality of fear to justify

The Common Core State Standards Essay
In 2009 the Common Core State Standards, or CCSS, was initiated, and since then has become a
large part of education today. News shows in multiple states have shown students protesting these
new standards by skipping classes and school all together. These actions obviously show their
refusal to work with the new standards. While there are many teachers who are happy with these
standards, students still need to be convinced, and teachers can help this by supporting Common
Core State Standards. This in turn may help students understand their subjects better, and give
teachers a more attentive and active class. With CCSS being present in 2016 in most states it is of
relevance to take it in to consideration that it will be around for a while. In years to come, CCSS
may become the standards in all states. In order to ensure that there are no refusals to work with
these standards, administration and faculty in high schools across the United Statesshould find a
way to accommodate these new common core state standards. This can be done through reassuring
individual teachers that they are able to teach the new standards in ways that are easy for them,
showing different ways to help students achieve a higher order of thinking, and offer a better way
to connect students previous knowledge to knowledge they are currently receiving.
Each of the news ways stated in the previous paragraph can help to alleviate any concerns parents
and teachers may have about how students and education

Summary Of The Banking Concept Of Education By Paulo Freire
Paulo Freire is an author who poses questions and arguments that challenge everything that his
readers think and know. The Banking Concept of Education from Pedagogy of the Oppressed poses
the question about the education system and how teachers are narrators and students are recorders.
In his essay he discusses how the students who he refers to as containers receive their information
from teachers. However, the teachers never communicate with their subordinates. The idea of
banking suggests that students are only receiving, memorizing and receiving facts from the
depositor which made the students depositories. The main ideas drawn from this article are related
to education, knowledge and communication.

Theme Of Politics And The English Language By George Orwell
George Orwell s 1946 essay, Politics and the English Language, brings forth themes of deception,
honesty, and political bias through the eyes of the author himself. Orwell begins the narrative by
refuting standard assumptions of the English Language, and that language is a reflection of the
shape of society. Our civilization is decadent and our language so the argument runs must
inevitably share in the general collapse (127). The essay s deeper concerns of how language is
shifting and perhaps limiting expression are troubling yet serves as a reminder of Orwell s
Newspeak in 1984. Orwell s extensive use of metaphors, similes, and imagery depict his growing
concerns of contemporary writingstyles.
Orwell s introduction gives insight into his beliefs of the collapse of the English language
through his distaste for meaningless words. Most people who bother with the matter at all would
admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by
conscious action do anything about it (127). He argues that English is a tool and its erosion is
human made rather than a natural process. Orwell further suggests simplifying language without
convoluting the meaning. Complex words such as loquacious or ebullient could be better
understood by readers if simplified to talkative or cheerful. The essay begins to shift its focus from
Orwell s view of contemporary English to bringing five examples of written pieces that exemplify
the prior

Shrek Cultural Value Essay
What significant cultural value or belief does the film convey? What is important about it?
Shrek conveys the idea of true love and appearances while putting a twist on the classic idea. It
limits the idea of finding a true love at first sight and the damsel must be saved by her true love, a
knight in shining armor. Rather, the damsel in distress is rather not a damsel in distress, but rather
a superb fighter who can handle herself well and does not need the help of a knight in shining
armor. The knight in shining armor happens to be an ogre in dirty armor he takes from the bodies
of dead knights. Throughout Shrek s quest to save Fiona, they are kept apart by the appearance of
a princess and an ogre. Shrek is an ogre who turns out to be the knight in shining armor for Fiona,
a princess who is not a damsel in distress.
The popular concept of a charming prince rescuing a beautiful princess is changed to an ogre
rescuing an ogre. Shrek pushes others away because he is an ogre and believes everybody
judges him as such. He explains to Donkey that ogres are like onions they have layers. He resists

China s Trade Imbalance With A Firm Level Data Set...
Measuring the magnitude of exchange rate pass through for Chinese exports is all the more
relevant because China s trade imbalance with richer trading partners, notably the United States,
is often perceived as exacerbated by exchange rate manipulations. Many indeed argue that an
appreciation of the renminbi would help rebalance China s trade. While the RMB was pegged to
the U.S. dollar until July 2005, Tang and Zhang (2014) noted that there were significant
fluctuations in real terms from an appreciation of 9% from 2000 to 2001 to a depreciation of
17% from early 2005. The extent of its trade s response to a change in the exchange rate however
depends on the magnitude of the ERPT and on the price elasticity of Chinese exports and imports....
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also find that the reaction of the Chinese exporting firms depends on their productivity levels:
high productivity firms tend to adjust their export prices, while low productivity firms tend to adjust
their export volumes. HГ©ricourt and Poncet (2015) also find that exchange rate volatility reduces
a firm s decision to export and the value of these exports, but that these negative impacts can be
mitigated with the existence to well developed financial markets.
Our paper contributes to the literature on ERPT for Chinese exports by testing for heterogeneity
in Chinese firms responses to changes in exchange rate. The main data source is a database
collected by the Chinese Customs. It contains Chinese firm level export flows by year, product,
custom regime, firm type, and destination country, over the years 2000 2006. One distinctive
characteristic of China s trade lies in the importance of processing trade in total exports. From
2000 to 2006 the share of processing trade in total export exceeded 50%.
Using micro level data allows us to circumvent some empirical issues one would face when
estimating the ERPT with aggregate price data . First, we can treat changes in the exchange rate
as exogenous (Feinberg, 1996). Second, using aggregate price indices to measure ERPT might
lead to some bias in the estimation, as prices of many goods do not change during these goods
lifetime. Kim et al. (2013) indeed

  • 4. Crime And Punishment And The Idiot Analysis Everyone is the same, only different. People need the same things to survive, such as food, water, shelter, and clothing, so in that sense, everyone is the same. Their differences come from their own unique dispositions and temperaments. Crime and Punishment and The Idiot, two of Dostoevsky s novels, have two very seemingly similar protagonists, creating an illusion for the readers. When in reality, the characters can be labeled as being near opposites. Through the use of the novels of Crime and Punishment and The Idiot, Dostoevsky creates the protagonists of each novel similarly, but alters their destinies to differentiate them. It seems that Dostoevsky has created a pattern in his novels, as they concern themselves with behavioral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alienation occurs to both protagonists of Crime and Punishment and The Idiot. Alienation can be defined as the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity. For both Raskolnikov and Myshkin, they are both isolated from society, whether society isolates them or they isolate themselves from society. Raskolnikov isolates himself from society early on in the novel because of his presumptuous mentality and theories. His extraordinary man theory dictates his life and motivates him to commit a murder. In an explanation of his theory to Porfiry Petrovich, the murder investigator, Raskolnikov says: I only believe in my leading idea that men are in general divided by a law of nature into two categories, inferior (ordinary), that is, so to say, material that serves only to reproduce its kind, and men who have the gift or the talent to utter a new word. (Crime 141) He labels those men who have these gifts and talents as extraordinary men and places himself into that category. He believes that he is the best and better than everyone else in the world. After murdering Alyona Ivanovna, something unexplainable happens to Raskolnikov: Something was happening to him entirely new, sudden and unknown. It was not that he understood, but he felt clearly with all the intensity of sensation that he could never more appeal to these people in the police office with sentimental effusions like his recent outburst, or with anything whatever; and that if they had been his own ... There was no system of law in England and Wales before 1066, as it was mainly based on customs which were just rules of behaviour and the other used to be the decisions of judges. The law in England and Wales built over the centuries. There were various methods of creating laws which were called sources of law . However, in the 18th Century Parliament became more powerful which lead the Acts of Parliament (statues) to be the main sources of law today. Decisions made by the judges are also essential today as they interpreted Parliamentary law where there was no statue law. During the twentieth century statue law and judicial decisions continued to be the major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chancellor dealt with so many claims that in 1474 he was given his own court named as Court of Chancery this is when a new law came into place named equity meaning fairness. Equity historically had been an important source and still plays a vital role with many of our legal concepts having developed from equitable principles. The word equity meaning fairness operates on its meaning when adding to our law. Equity and Common Law both systems functioned side by side and eventually a conflict developed between these two systems and in that equity would frequently overruled common law decisions and denied them. The problem was that the Common law courts would make an order in the favour of the other party whereas the Chancery court would make an order in the favour of the other party. This conflict was later solved in The Earl of Oxford s Case 1615 when the king came to the decision that where there was conflict equity should prevail. However, once the equity became a body of law rather that arbitrary exercise of conscience, there was no reason that it needed its own court. Therefore, the two systems merged together by Judicature Acts 1873 75 which established that equity and common law could both be administered by all courts and provide the system we have today. Hence, common law advanced from customs and on the other hand equity established from the problems in common law and today both systems are delivered in all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Museum Szymborska Analysis Time is a permanent fixture in our world. It is with us the moment we take our first breath and when we close our eyes for the last time. We use it to arrange events, change our appearance to look as if time has had no effect on us, and attach it to special moments in our lives . Szymborska explores our relationship with time, and our aspiration to rebel against it, in her works Museum (30), Landscape (70 71), and The People On The Bridge (218 219) found in Poems New and Collected (Szymborska, 1998) by portraying time as an antagonist, showing how humans fight time, as well as their attempts to achieve immortality through detritus objects and art. (3) A museum is a place where works of art and various objects of cultural and historical significance are collected and displayed to help give a better understanding of the past. The poem Museum (30) speaks of various objects and their relationship to humans, and how they have outlived their human counterparts. The crown has outlasted the head. / The hand has lost out to the glove. / The right shoe has defeated the foot. (16) Although we ultimately accept that humans cannot defeat time, we can use these items as a means of achieving immortality. Szymborska offers a different perspective on how we try to influence and organize these detritus items through rhyme. Ire (5) and hour (6), celebrate, (11) and date (12) are all an emotion or a reference to time. These contrasts highlights the fact that time is out of our control. The specific references to numbers, a way we place emphasis on the significance of objects through time, are arbitrary. There are some three hundred years (3) or the ellipsis and line break emphasises the fact that Eight (11) is irrelevant, this human attempt at order is proven futile. Szymborska acknowledges that humans know we cannot physically preserve ourselves, we can t defeat time, so instead humans have preserved themselves through different objects, from plates, wedding rings, fans, swords, and lutes. In Museum, Szymborska defamiliarizes how we perceive the objects found in a museum, instead describe a place that preserves a collection of detritus items. The People On the Bridge (218 219) is an allusion to a painting drawn by Hiroshige Utagawa with the same name. Evolution Of The Islamic State Introduction The so called Islamic State, also known as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) or ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant), has captivated the world s attention as of late. Its brutal tactics, vehement opposition to western influenced societal norms, and ultra radical interpretation of Sharia law have sent scholars, journalists, government officials, and ordinary citizens into a frenzy trying to comprehend this troubling phenomenon. Furthermore, I agree with Dr. Paul Staniland of the University of Chicago in determining that ISIS represents what can be considered a vanguard insurgent organization, and has the potential to coalesce into an integrated one in the future. Finally, ISIS shares several key similarities and differences with notable Islamic political organizations and insurgent networks of the past few to include the Palestinian Hamas and the Afghan Taliban. To properly analyze these factors of development, relevant theoretical framework will be highlighted including insurgent cohesion and development, alliance formation in civil wars and the factors determining levels of insurgent violence. Second, a comparative study of the previously mentioned organizations will be utilized to cross examine ISIS composition and behavior. Similarities and differences in organizational structure and methodology between the case studies will be correlated. • 9. Requirement Of A Senator Essay The requirement that you must be at least thirty years of age to sit as a senator is beyond unreasonable in terms of representation in current day Canada. The Canadian voter turnout ages eighteen to twenty four was in the range of thirty eight percent of the population as of 2011, with 2.9 million votingin the federal election (ElectionsCanada, 2012). This number is staggering and proves that not only are more young Canadians interesting in democracyand governmental affairs but that a large portion of Canadians are under the age of thirty and those diverse needs are not being met or addressed in the Senate because of the age requirement. Those who serve as a Senator and are at the age of requirement or over cannot feasibly understand and correlate with such a large demographic if they are not directly part of that age group. An older senator may have more experience in the Senate and be a political and economic elitist but they may also be reluctant to recognize new and innovative change. • 10. Disadvantages Of A Big Family There are many different components that make up a family especially a big family. A common misconception is that all people in a family are similar, but the truth is that in order to have a family you have different people that love each other despite those differences. Most of the time the largest part of a familyis the children, and the way that the kids interact is interesting. There are five different categories that siblings really fall into that make up a family. The superior one is the first type of sibling. This duty usually falls to the oldest in the family which only makes sense because they often think that just because they came first that they know best. They always make sure that you know what they think about your actions, and they are kind enough to give constructive criticism even when not asked. How considerate! All four major Psychological theories are very significant, but based on my reading about all of them, I can convey that the ecological theory is the most closely aligned with my personal belief system. Part 2: Why? I chose this theory because it states that a person s development is influenced by everything in the surrounding environment, such as: family values, home, peers, school, and neighborhood, among others biological factors that play the dynamic roles in the human development. I will try to explain it in a more simply way....and to be honest, I don t truly like the way the books describes it. It was formulated by the renowned psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner. The ecological systems theory embraces that we encounter diverse environments throughout our lifespan that may influence our behavior in varying points. These systems consist of different aspects or levels of the environment: the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem. The microsystem s setting is the direct surroundings, we have in our lives and it is the small, close environment a child subsists in. Not only does Walmart China have to compete with all the foreign retailers like Carrefour and Tesco, but also with the local ones. The local retailers pose an even bigger threat to Walmart owing to their well established network and prime locations. Moreover, exposing to foreign competition allows the local retailers to imitate the foreigners techniques and hence improve their own supply chain efficiency. Also, the fact that the local retailers have entrenched customer, supplier and distribution bases, further intensified the rivalry in the retailing industry. • 26. Definition Of A Neutral Question There is no such thing as a neutral question. Evaluate this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge. In order to evaluate this statement, we must clearly understand what is a neutral question. A definition of a neutral question can be: A question asked in such a way that it does not imply personal opinion or bias. I assume that a true question has to be neutral. If a question reveals to be non neutral, the objectivity that defines a question doesn t exist anymore. It becomes a statement or a judgement with a question make up. To develop the evaluation of this statement, we have to figure out what are the conditions for a question to be neutral. The point of a question is to request knowledge or information; it gives control over the direction taken to fill in the request. One could argue that the initial choice of what question is asked, in itself, is a form of bias and on those grounds, neutrality is impossible any time there is a question. For this reason, it might be good to think of neutrality on a continuum with some questions being more neutral than others. Examples of neutral questions can be identified as: Can you describe the kind of information you would like to find? Or what are you hoping to find? A neutral question can then be defined as a bias free enquiry for knowledge. For my Areas of Knowledge I will be referencing Ethics and Natural sciences. What is neutrality? News shows in multiple states have shown students protesting these new standards by skipping classes and school all together. These actions obviously show their refusal to work with the new standards. While there are many teachers who are happy with these standards, students still need to be convinced, and teachers can help this by supporting Common Core State Standards. With CCSS being present in 2016 in most states it is of relevance to take it in to consideration that it will be around for a while. In years to come, CCSS may become the standards in all states. In order to ensure that there are no refusals to work with these standards, administration and faculty in high schools across the United Statesshould find a way to accommodate these new common core state standards. This was called an articulated engine, meaning it had two separate groupings of driver wheels, each set with its own piston. The engines were often described as Mallet type articulated locomotives, however, a true Mallet has compound expansion, the steam was used to power the locomotive in multiple ways, while the Big... Little did the crew know that down the mainline another event was unfolding. A track gang and a foreman traveled by motorcar to pick up some switch ties. When the group arrived at Red Desert, they were approached by a sheep herder, who needed assistance getting his sheep across the tracks. The foreman assigned two men to flag each direction of track. He also ordered that switch of each side of the passing track to be opened. (That means that the switch is in a middle position, not thrown to either side, which will always lead to derailment.) This would cause the signals to indicate a stop signal. As one of the men opened up the siding switch, he saw 4005 roaring down the track, the workman tried to close the switch before the engine could pass... it was too late. The engineer applied the emergency brake, however, at the time 4005 was going about 50 MPH (80 KPH). The engine, tender, and first 18 cars turned on its side, The massive and near full tender smashed into the cab of 4005, destroying it completely. Although the engineer and brakeman were killed instantly, the front brakeman survived the wreck and gave an account as to what happened. On that land is located a paradox: A secret base that everyone knows about. Area 51 is a parcel of land in the Nellis Range Complex located about 30 miles south of the town of Rachel, Nevada. In Area 51, near the dry bed of Groom Lake, is a test facility for military aircraft. It is a base was so secret that even though it had been there over forty years it wasn t until 1994 that the government confirmed that it existed. Some speculate that the Black Bird s successor is in test at Groom Lake right now. Over that last decade Area 51 has also come to be associated with UFO s. There were stories that a flying saucer, that allegedly crashed at Roswell, New Mexico, had been brought to the Nellis Complex and was under study. • 38. Theme Of Politics And The English Language By George Orwell George Orwell s 1946 essay, Politics and the English Language, brings forth themes of deception, honesty, and political bias through the eyes of the author himself. Orwell begins the narrative by refuting standard assumptions of the English Language, and that language is a reflection of the shape of society. Our civilization is decadent and our language so the argument runs must inevitably share in the general collapse (127). The essay s deeper concerns of how language is shifting and perhaps limiting expression are troubling yet serves as a reminder of Orwell s Newspeak in 1984. Orwell s extensive use of metaphors, similes, and imagery depict his growing concerns of contemporary writingstyles. Orwell s introduction gives insight into his beliefs of the collapse of the English language through his distaste for meaningless words. Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it (127). He argues that English is a tool and its erosion is human made rather than a natural process. Orwell further suggests simplifying language without convoluting the meaning. Complex words such as loquacious or ebullient could be better understood by readers if simplified to talkative or cheerful. The essay begins to shift its focus from Orwell s view of contemporary English to bringing five examples of written pieces that exemplify the prior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Shrek Cultural Value Essay What significant cultural value or belief does the film convey? What is important about it? Shrek conveys the idea of true love and appearances while putting a twist on the classic idea. It limits the idea of finding a true love at first sight and the damsel must be saved by her true love, a knight in shining armor. Rather, the damsel in distress is rather not a damsel in distress, but rather a superb fighter who can handle herself well and does not need the help of a knight in shining armor. The knight in shining armor happens to be an ogre in dirty armor he takes from the bodies of dead knights. Throughout Shrek s quest to save Fiona, they are kept apart by the appearance of a princess and an ogre. Shrek is an ogre who turns out to be the knight in shining armor for Fiona, a princess who is not a damsel in distress. The popular concept of a charming prince rescuing a beautiful princess is changed to an ogre rescuing an ogre. Shrek pushes others away because he is an ogre and believes everybody judges him as such. He explains to Donkey that ogres are like onions they have layers. He resists falling in love with Fiona and does not show any affection at the beginning because he thinks there is no way a princess and an ogre can be together. ... • 42. China s Trade Imbalance With A Firm Level Data Set... Measuring the magnitude of exchange rate pass through for Chinese exports is all the more relevant because China s trade imbalance with richer trading partners, notably the United States, is often perceived as exacerbated by exchange rate manipulations. Many indeed argue that an appreciation of the renminbi would help rebalance China s trade. While the RMB was pegged to the U.S. dollar until July 2005, Tang and Zhang (2014) noted that there were significant fluctuations in real terms from an appreciation of 9% from 2000 to 2001 to a depreciation of 17% from early 2005. The extent of its trade s response to a change in the exchange rate however depends on the magnitude of the ERPT and on the price elasticity of Chinese exports and imports.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also find that the reaction of the Chinese exporting firms depends on their productivity levels: high productivity firms tend to adjust their export prices, while low productivity firms tend to adjust their export volumes. HГ©ricourt and Poncet (2015) also find that exchange rate volatility reduces a firm s decision to export and the value of these exports, but that these negative impacts can be mitigated with the existence to well developed financial markets. Our paper contributes to the literature on ERPT for Chinese exports by testing for heterogeneity in Chinese firms responses to changes in exchange rate. The main data source is a database collected by the Chinese Customs. It contains Chinese firm level export flows by year, product, custom regime, firm type, and destination country, over the years 2000 2006. One distinctive characteristic of China s trade lies in the importance of processing trade in total exports. From 2000 to 2006 the share of processing trade in total export exceeded 50%. Using micro level data allows us to circumvent some empirical issues one would face when estimating the ERPT with aggregate price data . First, we can treat changes in the exchange rate as exogenous (Feinberg, 1996). Second, using aggregate price indices to measure ERPT might lead to some bias in the estimation, as prices of many goods do not change during these goods lifetime. Kim et al. (2013) indeed ...
