2. The Tragedy Of Timothy Lawrence
There was no question about it. Helios was doomed.
Timothy Lawrence could feel the massive space station shudder as it started to be
pulled towards the surface of that hated planetb Pandora. As soon as he saw Jack s
face appear on all the monitors in their apartment he had gone to his computer to try
to get the digital man s attention. Thus far, he had been unsuccessful and now, for
some reason, Helios was going down.
He cursed loudly as he typed frantically at the terminal s keyboard. Jack. Jack you
ASSHOLE. Answer me! Never before had he regretted not learning more about
computers than he did right now.
The monitor blipped on with that strange image of his departed lover he had seen
elsewhere in the station. He all translucent and blue, like the digitized versions of
himself he had given Tim to use in combat so many years ago.
Timothy, Jack s large, expressive eyes widened. Baby, Oh my god. I am so glad to
see that you re alright, Kitten. Holy shit, you look different.
Leave it to whatever this version of Jack was to be concerned at such a time with
how different his body double looked. He no longer wore the mask that made him
his partner s double. The very bolts that held it in place had been removed, leaving
pink, scarred flesh in their place. As he was quite a bit younger than his lover, he
had always had to dye in the streaks of gray into his otherwise brown hair. With Jack
absent, he had stopped doing so. That, and he had cut his hair into a short
3. Chinese Immigrants Of Los Angeles
Chinese Immigrants in Los Angeles The Chinese immigrant is one of the largest
group in the United States. Looking back the history of U.S., most people believe
that the first Chinese immigrants came to California during the Gold Rush period.
Also, the Chinese community is one of the largest and oldest ethnic group of
Asian Americans. Some researchers consider the history of ethnic Chinese in
Southern California relates to three periods. In my opinion, I would like to say
that there are four major waves which the first wave begins in the 19th century, the
second wave occurs in the 1940s to 1980s, the third wave happens during the
1980s, and the last wave arises in a recent decade year. The first wave begins in the
19th century. There is evidence shows that the first Chinese immigrant in Los
Angeles comes from the Northern California because of the Gold Rush and the
railroads construction. In the book, The Los Angeles Plaza: Sacred and Contested
Space, William David Estrada writes, The rise of the Chinese community of Los
Angeles was an outgrowth of larger developments in the United Statesduring the
nineteenth century... the Chinese of Los Angeles came to fill an important sector of
the economy as entrepreneurs (p.72.) Estrada also claims that the early work areas
that the first Chinese immigrants related. At first, most Chinese work at restaurants,
laundries, farms, wholesale stores and casinos. Because of cheap labor, most
Chinese can easily find the low skilled work

6. The Low Calorie Frozen Microwaveable Food Company
Introduction
This is a follow up to the previous two assignments for the low calorie frozen
microwaveable food company and how the company wants to expand and make long
term budgeting decisions. With facing increases in costs and also the expansion this
assignment will answer the basic questions for review about what the company can
do to be able to move ahead with these challenges and come out profitable.
Pricing strategies for making a change in this microwaveable low calories frozen food
would be to look at the basics of pricing strategies and the market mix. To create a
pricing strategy, the company needs to take into account the target group and the
willingness to pay for the product to make sure that the market segmentation and
where the price is going to be set at, should be a key point in determining the
anticipated rate of price since the product in itself is elastic in nature. Being an elastic
company means that the company has flexibility, the ability to meet fluctuations and
unplanned changes to demand the potential to take on more contracts and not forfeit
seasonal work, financial stability, accounting for fluctuations in a far more
controlled way, increase work flow without jeopardizing SLAs or impeding
regulatory standards, improved staff efficiencies from well organized working
conditions (retrieved Logistics Transport Focus, 16(11), 56 57.) By this the change in
price will not necessarily cause a huge change in the quantity of demand by the
consumers,

Erin Brockovich, a biographical film directed by Steven Soderbergh and Susannah
Graham, tells the story of a twice divorced unemployed mother of three who
fought to win a lawsuit against a giant utility corporation. Erin Brockovich, played
by Julia Roberts, consults lawyer Ed Masry after suffering injuries from an
automobile accident through no fault of her own. She is ensured to walk away
from her case with a large settlement, yet Mr. Masry lets her down drastically when
he ends up losing the case. Erin finds herself in a desperate situation, without a job,
very little money in the bank, and expected to support her children. Thinking she is
owed a favor by this firm, she marches down there and demands a job from him. Ed

The same professor recommends Erin to stop by the water board that serves this
town to search the records. After examining the local water records, and her
interviews with the residents, Erin s suspicions that their exposure to this
substance is what caused their suffering are proved. As the word of her discoveries
get out, many other neighbors surrounding this area come to tell Erin about their
illnesses and misfortunes, such as forms of cancer and miscarriages, that could
also be linked to this contamination. After meeting with numerous families, Ed and
Erin decide to take it on as a case and represent these suffering people against PG E.
Ed, being close to retirement, begins to worry about the complications they could

Ed is informed they must establish that this company was aware the water was bad
prior to 1987 and deliberately ignored the problem. After days of relentless work on
the case, a former worker of
8. The Theory Of The Hatch Act
The article presented by Bowman and West (2009) provides a glimpse into the
policies and processes that govern political activities of civil servants...and protect
the public from partisan administration of law (p. 52). As I reflect on the history of
the Hatch Act, I argue the justification for the legislation not only seems relevant, but
also may serve as a critical safeguard in our era of growing political division. The
study introduces the ethics triangle and the three theories derived from the model for
structuring a sound assessment of the Hatch Act: result based ethics, rule based
ethics, and virtue based ethics. Nevertheless, the beliefs and values that define an
individual will not simply be trumped by altruistic intentions. Often one must be
reminded of the intent behind their appointment and the associated responsibilities to
guide their actions. A sentiment echoed by Jackson in the article by Bearfield
(2009). Political divide affects all factions of government, and is exacerbated by the
growing loyalty to partisan politicsthat hinders the legislative process.
Result Based Ethics
There should be a clear division between politics and public administration.
Administrators must have the freedom to focus solely on the well being of their
constituents. However, managers are often subjected to following the political views
of the officials who appoint them or suffer termination. The intended outcome is to
find the perfect balance among the three approaches to
9. Doctrine of Frustration
Contract assignment Doctrine of frustration Doctrine of frustration ACCORDING
to Section 56, an agreement to do an act impossible in itself is void (for example,
an agreement to discover treasure by magic). Supervening impossibility or illegality
refers to the intrusion or occurrence of an unexpected event or change of
circumstances beyond the contemplation of the parties; such event or change of
circumstances must be so fundamental as to be regarded by law as striking at the
root of contract as a whole or the basis of the contract no longer exists. Subsequent
impossibility in the UK is referred to as Doctrine of Frustration. A contract is deemed
to have become impossible of performance and, thus, void under the following
circumstances:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data for decision, on the one hand, the terms and conditions of the contract,
read in the light of the then circumstances and, on the other hand, the events which
have occurred. In the nature of thing there is often no need for any elaborate
enquiry. The Court must act upon a general impression of what its rule requires. It
is for that reason that special importance is necessarily attached to the occurrence
of an unexpected event that, as it were, changes the face of the things. But even
so, it is not hardship or inconvenience or material loss itself which calls the
principle of frustration into play. (18) IMPOSSIBILITY OF PERFORMANCE
AMOUNTS TO FRUSTRATION A man can be expected to do what is humanly
possible but he cannot be expected morally or legally to do what is not physically
possible. It cannot be disputed that when a thing is beyond the human control it
cannot be expected from the party which had undertaken to do the work to suffer
the consequences of not proceeding with the contract work and in such a situation
both the parties are relieved from their contractual responsibilities. The word
impossible in Section 56 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872 has not been used in the
sense of physical or literal impossibility. The performance of an act may not be
literally impossible, but it may be impracticable and unless from the point of view of
10. Sexual Assault And Harassment Analysis
When you think of Notre Dame, you think about their quality of education, and how
good they are at sports, but what you don t think about is their huge problem with
sexual assault and harassment problem they have. As of right now Notre Dame has
two active sexual assault cases and one that is resolved, and in 2010 Lizzy Seeberg,
a student at nearby Saint Mary s College committed suicide after reporting that a
Notre Dame football player violated her. The fact that Notre Dame is under federal
review shows that the Education Department is investigating many more U.S.
colleges and universities for their handling of sexual harassment than was previously
known. The department s Office of Civil Rights had said previously that it is

take these title xi complains seriously and have done little to nothing to prevent

awareness event and get the whole school involved, and they also need to come up
with some very different way of dealing with these title xi complaints so they can
avoid cases like these in the
11. Lab Report On Osmosis
In this lab, we performed two experiments to understand the process of osmosis and
its relationship with solute concentration, and how water potential is affected by
temperature. In the first part of our lab (there was no hypothesis for this experiment),
where we used dialysis tubing to model osmosis and its relationship to solute
concentrations, we observed how the percent change in mass increased as the solute
concentration of the solutiondid. The percent change in mass was positive, meaning
that the dialysis tubing had gained mass after being submerged in the distilled water
solution. This means that the dialysis tubing gained water, which was the result of
osmosis. The water diffused from outside the tubing, through the semipermeable
membrane, into the tubing in all of the cases. Because we know that water diffuses
from high water concentration to low water concentration, we know that the sucrose
solutions in the dialysis tubing had less water concentration than the distilled water
surrounding the tubing. Furthermore, the molarity of the sucrose solutions inside the
tubing increased from 0.2M to 1.0M, which means that the sucrose (solute)
concentration was increasing, so the water concentration was decreasing. This
explains why the percent change in mass increased as the molarity increased; more
water was flowing into the tubing as the water concentration got lower and solute
concentration got higher. In other words, the water was flowing from a hypotonic
solution to a
12. Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo
A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the
following eight elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics,
characteristic emotional experience, material expression, and sacredness. Depending
on the religion, some of these elements may carry more weight than others. I will
look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role some of these elements play within
these systems of belief.
Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is.
We must love and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in
order to achieve salvation. The element of central myths plays a large role within the
Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of Catholic ... Show more content on

Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of
bread and wine. It further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter
fully into the heart of Christian faith through participation in the Eucharist
(catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the final step of initiation. It is receiving the
gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with Christ and strengthens our
bond with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us through the rest of
our life. The Sacrament of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins and
seek forgiveness so that we may remain in God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage
takes place when two people commit to spend the rest of their life together,
anointing of the sick is when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers
prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament that takes place with the ordination of a
bishop, priest, or deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010).
Voodoo is also a monotheistic religion that combines Catholic and African beliefs
and is often surrounded by many misconceptions. Voodoo has been portrayed by
the media as a form of devil worship and curses, with Voodoo dolls being used to
inflict pain on one s enemies (ancient origins.net). It is practiced primarily in Haiti,
New Orleans, and the Caribbean. This religion is several hundred years old, dating
back to when African slaves were brought to America from Haiti. They were not
allowed to practice their African
13. The Changeable Nature of the Air Transport Markets
The Changeable Nature of the Air Transport Markets Over the last five years the
air transport markets were marked by three main crucial events; the economic
recession, the rise in fuel prices and terrorism. All these factors had an enormous
effect on the passenger market, which included business (network carriers, business
focused carriers, fractional ownership and private charters), the leisure industry
(network carriers, scheduled carriers and charter carriers) and the cargo market,
which is divided in scheduled combination carriers (passenger cargo and all cargo
carrying aircraft) and all cargo (integrators, airport to airport and charter).
Recessions tended to hit the industry every 6 9 years and last for 2 3 years at a time....

In the business market it is clear to see that this market aims at providing a
premium service which include luxuries, for example the use of airport lounges
and bigger seats on the aircraft and people are willing to pay extra money for these
luxuries. It is possible to assume that in times of recession and rising fuel costs
that pricier seats, such as the seats in business and first class, would be less popular
and harder to sell but that does not seem to be the case. IATA estimated that
average ticket costs for business class flights have risen 8 percent in the first half
of 2010. Business travellers make up 8 percent of overall passenger numbers but
contribute 27 percent of ticket revenue, IATA said in its latest snapshot of the
airline business. Premium travel has risen almost twice as far in percentage terms
from its 2009 low as economy travel, but, such was the depth of the fall of the
premium segment, current levels are still 10% below pre recession peaks, whereas
economy travel is now 5% above its pre recession peak. The cargo market is expected
to grow at a CAGR of 8.2% over the forecast period. Excluding the impact of the
rapid post recession rebound in 2010, for the 2011 2014 period, the consensus view
for air freight is that it will stabilize at 5% CAGR. This is slightly below the forecast
growth in world trade (6%) suggesting a still conservative

Seventeen Syllables , the protagonist, Rosie is an American born Japanese (Nisei)
who does not understand well about the Japanese culture, whereas her Issei mother,

The Nisei generation, who knows formal Japanese by fits and starts , has totally no
interest on the traditional Japanese culture. However, the Issei generation sticks to
their original culture and even starts magazines to trace back their life in Japan. As a
result, the two generations, the Issei, Mrs. Hayashi and the Nisei, Rosie find it
difficult to understand each other. It results in the isolation of the two generation.
In Everyday Use , there is also isolation and oppression between the mother
daughter relationship of Mama and Dee. After Dee grows up and receives
education, it makes her differ from the rest of the family who only stays in the sub
urban area and receives less or no education. She is exposed to the values of the
new world with civil rights and equality, which Mama has totally no idea of what
they are. Dee has greater visibility and zero tolerance for equality. Also, Dee has a
sense of autonomy and individuality after receiving education. These are the things
that Mama has not got in touch with before. Therefore, it leads to them not
understanding the action of each other. For example, Dee wants to use the churn top
and quilts as artistic uses and she do not understand why they are backward enough
to put them to everyday use . Mama however sees the churn top as a kind of heritage
which has been used for generation. It is the most appropriated to use it practically.

Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, jumps tall buildings in a
single bound. Superman is known throughout the world for being the savior of a
city called Metropolis. In every comic book, movie, or action figure ever presented
to the public, Superman is a handsome, strong man who can defeat all oddsat all
times. The movie Superman was a success, showing how the superhero saved lives
and yet lived a humble life. As one watches the movie, though, he might notice the
many similarities between the plot of the movie and the story of Christ s coming.

At the beginning of the movie, it shows three people standing on trial and a vote
that was to be decided by Jor el. Zod, who was one of two men on trial, told Jor el
to let him go and that he would let Jor el have reign over the new world, which is
also said when the devil is speaking to God and trying to keep himself out of what
was to become Hell. One of the strongest points in the movie that showed itself to
be on the same path as Christ s coming was when Jor el said the father in the son,
and the son in the father, before he was to send Kah lel off into the universe
towards Earth. Another moment was when Kah lel throws the crystal and his
father appears to tell his son that he is pleased with him and that he should now
start his ministry after roaming the wilderness for the past twelve years. Not only
does this scene in the movie agree with the Bible s story of Christ s twelve lost
years, but it also is similar to when Christ was baptized by John. When Christ s
baptism took place in the river Jordan, a voice from Heaven came down upon the
crowd and said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. From the
beginning to end of the movie, there are times in which Superman looked to be
modeled after the story of Christ s coming.
While the names and the actions matched up for both stories, there were also cases
where an object s appearance alone made the viewer

Horwitz, Steven. Truth and Myth on the Gender Pay Gap. FEE, Foundation for
Economic Education, 30 Mar. 2017, fee.org/articles/truth and myth on the gender pay
gap/.
Synopsis
In his article, Truth and Myth on the Gender Pay Gap, Steven Horwitz elaborates on
the confusion about what is true regarding the gender pay gap. Stating that, Whether
the gender pay gap is a myth depends upon exactly what claim either side is
making. (1) Making the claim that depending on what one says about the gap
determines whether or not it is true or false. He goes on to elaborate on what is a
myth. Saying, Why would people claim this is a myth? Two reasons. First, if the
critics are claiming that the 80% number means that when men and women with
the exact same skills and experience and preferences do the exact same work that
women get paid 80 cents for every dollar men do, they are wrong. That is not what
the 80% figure shows. (1) He says that the difference in pay is not how the media
and other makes it seem to be, that for every dollar a man makes, a woman makes 80
cents etc, and that the difference is actually explainable by the different and varied
life choices that men and women make. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

due to discrimination, although the studies do not test directly for discrimination. He
goes on to provide examples of the different life choices men and women make to

ratings for customer service, health outcomes, and so on. These ratings may change
from year to year, and they are very important to insurance companies and

Advantage HMOs in Michigan, the number has been decreasing recently. Insurers
may feel more pressure to keep ratings and benefits high than to keep premiums
low. Even though there might be fewer no monthly premium Part C plans, rates are

from each of the three points to stop and trade being shaped just like a triangle. It
linked Europe, Africa, and the Americas. It was a very important piece of society in
the 15th century. There were benefits to this trade, but mostly to the businesses and
merchants. However, the impact it had on the African people lasted for centuries after

21. Age Of New Imperialism Analysis
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Europe was experiencing an Age of
Discovery, led by the spanish. During this time, nations in Europe were mostly ruled
by absolute monarchs, and the lower classes were repressed. Furthermore, Europe
was in constant religious warfare, as Protestantism had recently arose and created
divisions in once united territories. Centuries later, Europeonce again began reaching
for international control. This resurgence of exploration is known as the Age of New
Imperialism. The European nations during the Age of New Imperialism had modern
governments, including Socialist and Communist parties, and had just arose from a
time of internal turmoil and revolutions. During this time, from the late nineteenth

During the Age of Discovery, most nations had absolute monarchs, and thus the
glory received from expeditions abroad would directly go to the monarch, rather
than to the nation itself. This is evidenced by the extravagant palaces of Versailles
and el Escorial, which were constructed using the profits from the Age of Discovery.
Furthermore, many European nations had impoverished lower classes, that only
suffered while the extravagant monarchs indulged in the new income from overseas
trade. In contrast, during the nineteenth century and the Age of New Imperialism,
the glory received from conquest would increase the nationalism of the entire
country. This patriotic fervor gripped nations and was the cause of both unification
and warfare. Specifically, this nationalism and glory was used by King Charles X
of France who gained more power by increasing the patriotism of his people. Despite
his absolutist rule, the people of France did not rebel, as they were proud of their
nation s African expansion. In conclusion, the motivation of glory while expanding is
similar in both of the ages of international growth of European

The Wizard of Oz is a movie about a girl who wants more then the life she has in

First of all, in the text it said that Dorothy was the person going through change. At

developing different theories about D.B Cooper, we first have to ask ourselves
whether he survive the jump. As the FBI investigates this possibility, they discover
more and more about the mysterious D.B Cooper. We originally thought Cooper
was an experienced jumper, perhaps even a paratrooper, says Special Agent Carr.
However, after a few years of research and investigation, the FBI soon discovers
that this could not true. According to the FBI, there was no trained paratrooper
who could have jumped in the rain, in complete darkness, with a 200 mph wind,
and survive. Even if D.B Cooper somehow managed to survived the jump, there
was no way he could have survived in the middle of the forest without any supplies

him after the jump. One reason why they believe this is that there would have been
no way for anyone to track his location because no one could have known exactly
where he landed. According to Agent Carr, he jumped at a random location with no
ground visibility. Finally after many years of investigation, Special Agent Carr came
to the conclusion that D.B Cooper did not survive the
24. The Effects Of Population Growth On The Netherlands
Dutch population growth has been on the decline for many decades, leading to vast
changes within the populace. From 1950 to 2000, the Netherlands saw vast changes
in population composition, economy, and culture. Such ramifications have taken a
drastic toll on the society, and are anticipated to continue into the year 2050. The
causes and effects of populationgrowth and change in the Netherlands will be
examined in reference to 1950, 2000, and projections into 2050. The Netherlands
population growth has been slowing for many decades. In 1950, the population grew
at 1.26 percent. By the year 2000, that rate had dropped to a mere 0.54 percent.
Several factors influenced the decelerating population growth, namely fertility
decline, lower death rates, and more strictly limited immigration. These trends are
very typical of a nation transitioning from the third to the fourth stage of the
Demographic Transition Model. Falling mortality and fertility rates are characteristic
of this stage s transition, which does not allow for much growth. In the Netherlands,
this transition is remarkably recognizable in the data from 1950 to 2000. This
decelerating trend is anticipated to continue into the year 2050, by which point the
population will shrink at an estimated rate of 0.1 percent.

The Gay Lives of Frederick the Great and William III Frederick the Great of
Prussia and William III of the Dutch Republic were two well known great leaders
of Europe. They lived decades apart, William from 1650 to 1702, and Frederick
from 1712 to 1786, yet had uncannily similar lives, in many aspects. These leaders,
because of a somewhat controversial past, have lost many important clues about
what their lives were really like. Nonetheless, it is known for sure that both were
knowledgeable, great military leaders, champions of justice, and very likely
homosexual. One of the few dissimilarities between Frederick and William was the
religion they were raised on, which of course was to influence the rest of their lives,

It is said that his father arranged his marriage with Christine to prove Frederick s
heterosexuality in addition to producing an heir. Frederick, as a military leader,
also was known to have relationships with his friends from the battlefield. Though,
to his credit, he never allowed any relationships to interfere with his work or
compromise his integrity. Perhaps Frederick s best known and interesting affair
was with the famous French poet Voltaire. Frederick s love for French culture
encouraged him to reach out to Voltaire, and in 1736 the 24 year old prince sent a
letter to the 22 year old, already quite famous philosopher. Thus began their
friendship, and they kept a close friendship, or possibly more throughout their lives.
Still, there was a conflict of interest between them. Preceding Frederick s
coronation, Voltaire Never tired of comparing Frederick to Apollo, Alcibiades and
the youthful Marcus Aurelius (Strachey 170). But Voltaire wanted to see a peaceful,
united Europe, and once Frederick took the throne of Prussia he seemed only
interested in war. Frederick tried to keep Voltaire around, even offering him positions
in the court as he still very much valued Voltaire s opinions. Voltaire and Frederick
still exchanged writings, Frederick s work still often implying

that all your rentals were currently completely but and that you are requesting an
emergency rental from I assume the corporate office said that the recall work can be

working hard to obtain a rental for us.
On March 22, 2016 I had a friend call your office requesting an event or of an

that there was a vehicle available during that time in which my friend responded
that they would call back to finalize the booking. Needless to say, my friend didn t
book the rental and we only did this to see if you were really trying your hardest to
remedy my issue. I can only come to one of two conclusions at this point. Is there
whoever answered the phone made a mistake about the availability of the rental or
you haven t been trying to resolve the issues and get the recall work done on our

This was a very important time for Lands End as very key changes were being

was done to take advantage of the web based service it was already providing and to
make more efficient and profitable sales. This helped an increase in sales of 40% as

Therefore it was hard to believe that Lands End could maintain its competitive
advantage through just use of superior technology. Maturing growth in the USA and
abroad had forced the company to reduce its number of catalog pages and mail
fewer books. Lands End was reaching logical limitations of what the catalog could do
for them
The last key issue was the company s decision to be acquired by Sears at $1.9
billion where it had the exclusive right to sell Lands End product in its retail
stores. This new horizontal integration had left a big question on whether Lands
End will be able to earn profits under this new organization and whether any
conflict will arise with this new establishment. At that time the company was
facing declining sales in catalogs and already was in talks with Sears in the
previous years believing that the retail stores would be a key addition to the
platform for selling its products. The retail stores would be used to showcase the
Lands End products and if any product found unsatisfactory through catalog and
online purchase could be returned through these stores as well. There were a number
of key decisions that were needed to be made in order to ensure a successful future
of Lands End. The first was that should Lands End continues to partner with ASI as
they had started providing similar services to Lands End competitor and helping them
achieve a much cheaper and better product. Currently ASI

For a long time it has been impossible to make a prosthetic for the eye. Instead people
have made tools to fix existing eyes that just improve existing The human eye is a
very intricate system that is extremely hard to replicate. We could make prosthetic
limbs that work the same way as the originals, prosthetic hearts that can replace old
and failing hearts, but never been able to make a prosthetic eye that can actually
see. There are 10 million people in the U.S. and many more worldwide who are blind
or are facing blindness due to diseases of the retina, diseases like macular
degeneration, and there s little that can be done for them. There are some drug
treatments, but they re only effective on a small fraction of the population. And so,
for the vast majority of patients, their best hope for regaining sight is through
prosthetic devices. The problem is that current prosthetics don t work very well.
They re still very limited in the vision that they can provide. For example, with these
devices, patients can see simple things like bright lights and high contrast edges, not
very much more, so nothing close to normal vision has been possible. One To know
about how to cure blindness we must first know how the eye works and more
importantly what are the different causes of

applying the storytelling and race analytical methods, and discussing a source which
strengthens the claim that this video ultimately supports American hegemony and
ideology. Summary The Budweiser commercial, Born the Hard Way , which I will
refer to as the text , begins with a medium shot of the protagonist, Adolphus Busch in

The first example is an allusion to the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn wherein our
protagonist is shown on a riverboat with a free black man presumably somewhere
along the Mississippi. This allusion contrasts to the immigrant s story of the
protagonist and places into historical context the less than immigrant status of black
people who were already living in America at the time, while at the same time
showing how these two communities were connected and had something in common.
The second example of intertextuality would be to that of the Martin Scorsese film,
Gangs of New York , specifically in the go back home scene of the text. In Scorsese s
text, immigrants are one the one hand shown as being criminals, but on the other are
also as being discriminated against to such a degree that it was very difficult for them
to integrate into the wider American culture. Our text acknowledges this aspect of
American history through this intertextuality but by showing our protagonist in a
positive light and not being embittered or turning to crime it rejects the idea that
immigrants are criminals and argues they are vital to America s economic and
cultural success. I admit to enjoying both of these intertextual examples and I felt
they were appropriate to the story being

classroom. My agriculture class teaches lessons students can carry on for life in a

can learn to the best of their abilities.
Students need lessons that they can carry on for the rest of their life. In this class I
learn many of those types of lessons. I learn many things about the vet science
world. I do not want to be a vet, but I want to be a doctor. In this class I learn many
things about the anatomy of animals, a lot of which applies to what I will need to
know when I am a doctor. I also learn everyday life lessons. No teacher understands
that they teach their students more from what is not in the lesson. They teach
students so much about themselves that the students could not understand without
these teachers. An article I read by Huffpost Education stated it is vital that students
learn how to connect what occurs in the class with their lives and the world outside
of the classroom. I agreed

The Enron Dilemma and Catholic Social Teaching
The business world is an interesting environment that is often described as heartless
and cutthroat. However, while it is described that way, ethics do still apply to the
business world. Companies and corporations are expected to adhere to the ethical
code that has become engrained in business world. Unfortunately, however, despite
the existence of that expectation, some companies and corporations do not always act
in an ethical manner. Enron is an example of one of those ethically challenged
corporations. In this paper, a brief summary of the Enron scandal will be provided and
an analysis utilizing the principles of Catholic Social Teaching(CST) will be
conducted. Through the analysis, it will become apparent that Enron s actions
definitely conflicted with several CST principles.
Jumping right into the summary then. Enron was one of the most successful
corporations in America during its prime. Marketing electricity and other
commodities, as well as, providing financial and risk management services to other
companies were the main types of business that Enron conducted. However, Enron s
successful appearance was found out to be a façade, when it came out that the
corporation was making a plethora of unethical business moves. Once the corporation
s actions became public, Enron s fall from grace quickly followed. (Johnson, 2003)

35. The Methods Of Collecting Data Essay
When a child exhibits challenging behavior in a classroom, his or her teacher must
collect data to determine the functions of the behavior. The purpose of collecting
data, from several different sources, is to provide information on when, where, and
how often the challenging behavior occurs and how long it lasts.
Concerning the various sources in which data is collected, they can include; parents,
other teachers, bus driver, principal, and the student. The means of collecting this data
are from interviews, behavior rating scales, and direct observations. Regarding the
different means, interviews are the first tools used to assess a behavior s function.
They will help determine the background of the problem behavior, the antecedents
and consequences associated with the behavior, the times of day, places, and settings
in which the behavior occurs or does not occur, and strategies that have already been
tried. The behavior rating scales include a set of questions or statements to which
parents, teachers, students, plus others respond to provide information about the
problem behavior. These help identify antecedents, consequences, and reinforcers.
Lastly, direct observations are when someone observes the student in the classroom
and gathers information as to his or her problem behavior. These observations help to
see when, where, and how often the problem behavior occurs, and how long it lasts.
Once the data is collected, it is coordinated by an education professional;

Reliable DNA analysis is also important in the management of wild life. In the case
of Wedrowicz, the koala population is being threatened and the need for data on
their genetic diversity is of extreme importance. However obtaining the DNA from
the koala is not a simple task, this is due to cost, stress, and ethics of capturing a
koala. Sometimes the only way to obtain a sample of DNA is by the collection of
scats. This means that once the DNA sample is obtained it must be rushed to the lab
for extraction while the sample is still fresh. Obtaining this DNA can allow for
analysis of population, breeding, and habitat of not only koalas, but of many other
mammals (Wedrowicz, Faye, 2013).

After delivering my persuasive speech, I feel like my overall performance was
quite great if I m going to be honest with myself. There were some minor things that
didn t go so well that many people didn t notice; I think, which I ll address later.
The Four S s and transitions were things I felt like I exceeded on. Especially the
transitions. My transition into the next topic was seemingly smooth as I was
talking up front in class. The Four S s were no problem and I clearly stated what I
was talking about after each topic. Now, it seems like I m gloating myself, but I m
not. Let s talk about how I orally failed at citing sources during my speech. In my
outline, I have a ton of sources; 20 to be exact, and I only managed to list 3 4
sources that was from CBS, CNN and others when I was talking about the teenager
that lost her $2,300 of cash while walking to a classroom. And the other one was
when I was talking about a science fiction author named Jay Lake who was
fighting an advanced colon cancer. I did some brief mention of the large credit
card providers like American Express, Citi, and Discover as well. But other than
that, I missed a whole ton of sources when I was talking about the benefits that
credit card offers and the credit scores and such. And why did I fail to state my
sources? I have some theories and here are some of them: I had too much content
in my outline; I had too many sources; and I did not do a well enough job in
memorizing the sources. I feel like next time, I should focus more on using less
sources and having less content for my speech so I can be able to incorporate and
execute the sources more efficiently and effectively. Let s move on to a more
positive part of my speech, which is the nonverbal support! This is something that
I don t need to say much on as I was constantly moving around in front of the
classroom. I was waving my hands around like a maniac and made a lot of eye
contact with each and everyone in the classroom. But there s a little something that I
want to say about my nonverbal support. The reason why I do so much moving is
so that I can hide my mistakes. I believe that being in motion will distract the
audience in any flaws that you make. Have you ever watch a magician?

importance. As a second year graduate student, I was given an opportunity to work
closely with U.S Probation and Pretrial Services as an intern. This internship
allowed me to further my knowledge in correctional studies and provided the
necessary resources to complete my master s thesis. I was also exposed to various
policies and procedures pertaining to probation practices while gaining a vast amount
of knowledge assisting with investigations, liaisons between state and local agencies,
and the intricacies of offender case management. Furthermore, I was able to form
close relationships with employees of the agency who have assisted in my current
career endeavors.

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in
spite of overwhelming obstacles, (Christopher Reeves). Throughout all types of
story s, movies, poems and epics, a hero is always found. A hero that is found in a
epic is called a epic hero. Many epics were written a few thousand years ago.
Beowulf is one of the most common known epic heroes. Another type of herois the

Both heroes would be rewarded for their deed or deeds. Modern heroes could be
rewarded with a girl or freedom from something else. An epic hero was normally
given money or gear and weapons worth millions of dollars today. Either way both
are rewarded for their deeds. Together both types are also treated with respect and
each fight for a good cause. One difference between the two is, modern heroes don
t have or want to be recognized for doing the right things. Epic heroes strive to be
remembered and most of their deeds come from that. Today modern heroes are just
trying to do the right thing and by that they are remembered. Another difference is
epic heroes were born to be heroes. Modern heroes are ordinary people who are
gifted with their special ability. For example Superman came from a different planet
where flying was common. Modern and Epic heroes are different in many but are
also the same in
42. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides, inner struggles are paralleled with each setting.
Taking place in the twentieth century each setting plays a significant role in
explaining a theme in the novel. Fleeing Greece in a time of war and entering
Detroit Michigan as immigrants parallel later events to the next generation of kin
fleeing Grosse Pointe Michigan to San Francisco. These settings compliment a
major theme of the novel, society has always believed to be missing something in
their life and attempted to fill the missing piece. Desdemona and Lefty s struggle
while fleeing Greece, during a time of war, parallels Cal s struggle while in Grosse
Pointeand fleeing to San Francisco. Desdemona and Lefty are wondering through a
war zone to find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paralleling each setting as an escape for the people to live honestly as who they
wanted to be. Reflecting the theme by giving the missing piece, a new place to
live as they wanted, to be temporarily filled, to be who they truly believed they
were. Cal getting into trouble at work in San Francisco parallels Desdemona
telling the truth about her and her husband in Grosse Pointe, and communicates
the inevitable bad part of filling in the missing piece. Desdemona, Lefty, and Cal
were happy leaving to a new place, but eventually what they were running from
would catch up. Both Grosse Pointe Michigan and Greece came off as a war zone.
One, Greece, an actual war zone, while Grosse Pointe Michigan was a mental war
zone. In Greece many described the burning houses cause a huge amount of
physical harm. ...each house setting fire to it s neighbor until entire blocks are
burning (56 57). All the physical harm parallels the mental distress that occurred
for Cal as he got the news at the doctors office. The burning buildings represent the
push to run and become yourself, because the war pushed Desdemona and Lefty to
flee to America. While Cal was pushed to flee to San Francisco because of the news
at the doctors office. One notices the settings parallel each other in steps that the
characters take while living, and each characters missing the life they believe they
should have parallel each other s fleeing to another area. Greece, Grosse Pointe,
43. Compare And Contrast Fort Myers And Porters
Fort Myers Vs Porter Fort Myers and Porter are two amazing cities. Fort Myers
located in the Sunshine State and Porter in the Lone Star State. Porter is more of a
suburban area whereas Fort Myers is more developed as a city. Both these cities
have very noticeable differences. One is more active and alive, and the other is calm.
Although these cities are opposites, they have similar qualities that we can compare
to see which city is better. Notably Floridais known for having many glamorous theme
parks, but Texasalso has these attractions. Although not as big as Floridas, Texas has a
few theme parks close to Porter. Two Six Flags theme parks are located in Dallas and
San Antonio Texas. Just three hours North and West of Porter. However within

Within the city there is a lot to do. During the weekend many locals go out on their
boats onto the caloosahatchee river or go fishing. During the winter the Red Sox
practice in Fort Myers. Here they have their summer training camp at the Jet Blue
Stadium. Famous people have lived here in Fort Myers like Thomas Edison and
Henry Ford. Tourist still visit their houses along the Caloosahatchee river. Florida
has many stunning beaches, and Fort Myers is not an exception. There are many
beaches one could visit in the Fort Myers area. Whereas in Porter the closest beach
is about an hour away. Locals in Porter have to travel out of the city in order to do
anything. Luckily Houston is very close by. Here many events are held like
professional soccer games in the BBVA compass stadium. In downtown the
Houston Texans, a football team, play in the NRG stadium. As can be seen, Fort
Myers and Porter are two amazing cities. It is difficult to decide which city is
better. Both cities are very different from one another. Yet they have similarities
that can be used to compare each other. Some people might prefer a city that is
calmer like Porter, but others might like to go to the beach in the middle of winter.
This is what makes it difficult to decide what city is better. Both cities are great to
live in and are growing
44. Urban Myths Of Los Angeles Essay

specific evidence behind its originality or genuinity but lies deep rooted within the

45. Human Trafficking Crisis Intervention Paper
Introduction At the beginning of the semester, deputy director of the SAFE Center
Laura Ardito described the needs regarding crisis intervention as follows: ...Research
successful crisis intervention models in Maryland such as mental health crisis
intervention, SART (sexual assault response teams), and emergency domestic
violence intervention. Compare these with human trafficking crisis response models
that have been used nationwide. What challenges exist with human trafficking crisis
intervention that may not exist with SARTs and mental health crisis intervention?
What are effective ways law enforcement and survivor services collaborate to provide
human trafficking crisis intervention and other crisis intervention? What can we learn
from the SART/mental health crisis models? Based on the research, how would you
structure a human trafficking crisis intervention model for Prince George s County,
Maryland? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The paper also discusses how sexual assault, domestic violence, and post traumatic
stress disorder models can be utilized during a crisis. Then, we researched the
services offered and structures of various anti human trafficking organizations across
the country. Next, we examined ways in which communities have been engaged in
assisting crisis interventions based off of various trauma models. Because we found
little empirical research and scholarly discourse on crisis intervention models specific
to Maryland, we found it more beneficial to search nationwide. Finally, the report
discusses trauma, trauma informed organizations (TIOs) and some of their elements,
and uses the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force as case study for community
collaborations. The report explains the practices that the Maryland Human
Trafficking Task Force and Maryland Police have established for when they intervene
in cases of human
46. Teenage Pregnancy And Teen Teens
Whether it is buying a new seventy dollar pair of jeans or attending the latest hit
artist s concert, teenagers are always trying to fit into their ever changing society
and will do just about anything to have a feeling of belonging with their peer
groups. With Teen Mom, Sixteen and Pregnant, and Juno airing on a weekly basis
it is not too hard to determine that teens are influenced by these highly praised
young mothers. The Teen Mom cast may make $65,000 to $140,000 just to be
filmed for the thirteen MTV series, but a teen mom in a small town may make, on
average, $20,000 to $40,000 a year. The reality of teenage pregnancies can cause
many disturbances in an adolescent s life. High school pregnancies are not glitz
and glamour like television may portray, in reality, expecting teenage mothers are
not exposed to that fashionable life that most teenagers strive for. A student s
normal like will be affected by problems with friends, family, and emotional
experiences. Teenage friendships are what shapes a human into the people that they
become. The relationships that pregnant high school females hold will be
remembered for a lifetime, especially if their friends begin to fade out of the picture
because of a pregnancy. Many parents and families view a pregnant, unmarried
women in a terrible way. They believe that their children would be influenced by
their friends behavior and engage in sexual activities themselves. This causes many
problems in a pregnant teens social
