The Edison2 car was designed by Oliver Kuttner to be very light, using steel and aluminum construction, and powered by a 250cc E85 engine. Weighing just 376kg, it has four seats and wheels mounted outside the base. The Edison2 won the $5 million X-Prize for achieving an average of 160 miles per gallon, owing to its light engine. Being lighter, it is more ecological by using less fuel and producing fewer harmful emissions, making it better for both the environment and public health. However, its increased efficiency comes at a higher price that makes it more difficult for the author to purchase than a standard car.
