The Robotics Center of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology developed robots that teach English to children in South Korea by moving around and recognizing facial expressions. As part of a new government program, two schools tested robots for eight weeks in late 2009, and by the end of 2010 it was expected that thirty-six robots would teach English in eighteen schools in Daegu city. While robots may help students learn English, their use should be carefully considered to avoid replacing human teachers.
