Wind Energy Why it is misused and underestimated By Ryan Franda
Introduction Most promising Most room to improve People think water energy is better Water energy is good, but cannot improve
How it works Windmills Use motors to turn the energy from the turning turbine into electricity
Amount used In 2008, America used for 1.3% of energy In 2007, California used for 2.3% of energy. In 2002 and ever since then, Denmark uses for 19% of energy.
Pros It is perfectly clean, and does not admit any greenhouse gasses It does not take up much land per windmill It does not harm the environment
Cons It causes noise It is not very reliable or efficient People think the mills are dangerous
Why this doesn’t matter In a dessert, noise does not matter If you have enough, you can count on at least a few spots to be windy Turbines and mills are no more dangerous than a telephone pole, or a water tower, and crops can be grown almost right next to them.
Conclusion We can make at least 10% of our energy production from wind, and drastically decrease greenhouse gasses and fossil fuels. Water power’s growth is not realistic anymore Nuclear and ethanol are good, but nuclear is dangerous and we need corn for food. Wind is the most realistic choice to invest in as a country
