Climate finance and cop26 - implications for Tanzania

Scenarios building in complex commons
As one of the most populated tropical forest countries in the world, Indonesia faces huge challenges in balancing development, livelihood improvement of its citizens and conservation of its natural assets. Many stakeholders are not involved in the process. An important step to improve the current situation is to facilitate a more collaborative land use planning and allocation process that benefits all parties.
Through a series of multiple stakeholder workshops over a two-year period, PPA allowed diverse actors and interests to jointly predict and anticipate trajectories of land use change.

For agroforestry to be further mainstreamed in biodiversity conservation, its principles need to be integrated into landscape conservation planning and linked to global environmental policies and incentives that support small farmers' conservation-friendly practices.

Drr project proves its worth
The project aimed to increase communities' ability to respond to natural and human-induced disasters in Maguindanao province, Philippines. It provided disaster risk reduction trainings to staff and local governments. As a result of these efforts, casualties from disasters declined and communities demonstrated increased resilience. The project strengthened coordination between organizations and helped establish disaster response plans and communication systems at the local level. Moving forward, expanding training and building on partnerships will help further reduce risks and improve disaster preparedness.

Tj workshop session 7-developing the action plan
A 2-day workshop was held in Uganda to develop a water sector integrity vulnerability mitigation plan. Over 100 participants from government, utilities, civil society, media, and development partners attended. Day 1 involved validating findings on corruption vulnerabilities and agreeing to take action. Day 2 involved multi-stakeholder group work to select recommendations, assign roles and responsibilities, and set timeframes. The action plan was endorsed and oversight established. Lessons included high-level participation ensured meaningful discussions and ownership, and stakeholders must be involved from the start given corruption sensitivity. The PACTIV framework was presented for developing integrity plans involving planning, implementation, and monitoring.

Resilience of rubber based agroforestry facing global change
1. Tree-soil-crop interactions in rubber agroforestry systems can be managed at the plot, farm, and landscape levels. At the plot level, a mixed-age stand can be maintained for cash flow while diversifying. At the farm level, credit can cover replanting costs until cash flow is positive. At the landscape level, policy harmonization across forest and agriculture is important.

This is raising major concerns for a continent already challenged by adaptations to climate change, as it threatens a vital resource for food security of rural communities, economic growth, and ecosystem conservation. The accidental introduction through trade of non‐native species in particular is accelerating, and it adds to the damage to tree‐based landscapes by native pests and diseases. Old‐time and new invaders heavily impact planted forests of exotic eucalypts, pines, and acacias, and are spreading quickly across African regions. But many non‐native pathogens are recently found affecting important indigenous trees.

Species distribution modelling is being used to map the habitats of over 150 priority African plant species. More advanced modelling methods are being used to reduce bias, including spatial folding and thinning. Presence observations from across Africa are being used to calibrate provisional distribution models for individual species in countries like Ethiopia. zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Triangle of Collaboration Challenge in the countries: Collaboration works at the level on discussion and debate but there is a lack of trusts which results in the government not outsourcing implementation responsibility and civil society not being involved in government led programmes. Participants all agree there is need for cohesive collaboration Efforts should be put into ensuring effective collaboration between government, INGO’s, NGO’s and civil society.

Plan of Action WV/CRAF to facilitate the establishment of a network regionally – within two weeks World Vision national offices could become conveners on national level-within one month National offices to conduct mapping on who does what where.
