Education for young children is very important yet it is often not given enough attention. We are all born naïve and innocent without knowing anything. Young children are barely aware of who they are. According to Ahmad, the learning process begins at early ages just as growth and development begin. As such, teaching and learning is an essential aspect of a child's developmental stages. The growth and development process of a child can be guided through the process of teaching and learning. At very young ages, children are very eager to learn and understand various aspects of their surrounding environment. The learning process advances to include other factors as a child grows. For this reason, it is important to understand a child's learning process and create the most accommodative learning environment. More so, identifying teaching practices that promote a child's learning process is crucial to their growth and development from an early age.
Teaching refers to the process of facilitating, in this case, children to acquire new knowledge and understand themselves as well as their surrounding environment. Different approaches of teaching are adopted for various groups of people. As such, the type of approach adopted for early childhood education is different from approaches used with other groups of people. Children are very brittle at a young age, therefore, they must be handled with care. A small error made when teaching a child can have long-lasting effects, (Bullard, 10). The main purpose of teaching practices among infants is to facilitate them into becoming who they are naturally meant to be. Teaching in early childhood education is based on observations made on the infants. The main role of a teacher at this stage is to encourage good behavior and discourage bad habits. Therefore, teaching in children's education involves more nurturing practices rather than inculcating new knowledge and skills among infants.
On the other hand, learning refers to the process through which young children acquire knowledge and develop awareness about their surroundings. This process involves various ways through which children can understand the guidance and teachings of their educators. As such, the learning process is dependent on the cognitive abilities of individual children. Some children are fast-learners while others are slow learners. “Early childhood education and care (ECEC) has been recognized as a fundamental step in children’s development as it lays the foundation for future growth and learning,” (Bullard, 11). Learning is a gradual process that starts at a slow pace and increases speed as the child grows. Children should be facilitated to learn one thing at a time rather than subjecting them to an environment that overwhelms their abilities. It is also important to understand that the learning process for infants manifests through their childish play and chi.

It is important that parents should be careful and provide every essential and necessary needs required for better child development, in order to have better behaviour towards racial concerns, inter groups, and inter wealth peers.
Race and wealth are two significant factors that children think about carefully while making peer groups. We can see through the cognitive, motivational, or emotional developments that how children come into sight to have a natural ability to adapt what they see and experience around them. Therefore, a parent should always make certain of a life that they themselves have adapted. The children who do not get proper requirements and environment around them suffer to perform life in the society. Following the age children consider looking forward for “high-wealth" groups with an increasing extent as they find it “more exclusive” when compared to low wealth group.
The difference of experience in child development clearly needs to be looked after particularly by parents, they should ensure to perform talking skills with their children, listen and console. Parents have to be sure about the consistency and routine of the child that gives a sense of safety and support. The focal point is always building an independent nature in child and support healthy growth and development in areas of race, wealth, and peers. It is also significant to make certain of the parenting style in a parental interaction with child because those interactions influence the development of child. Parenting style also depend in the behaviour of the child and the circumstances that are provided to family. During the age of 3 to 6 years children go through the cognitive, physical, and language development.
Physical development is a process that involves changes in weight and height of a child and development of motor skills. Optimizing Brain Development
The first few years of a child’s life are critical for healthy brain development. Brain development begins during the prenatal period and continues through early childhood. Although the brain continues to develop into adulthood, the first eight years builds the foundation for learning and success (CDC, 2021). Brain development depends on many factors such as, prenatal care, experiences, and exposures to toxins and infections. “Nurturing and responsive care for the child’s body and mind is the key to supporting healthy brain development” (CDC, 2021). Positive and negative experiences help shape a child’s brain.
How the brain grows is highly affected by the child’/ s experiences with people and the world. Children depend on interactions with parents and their caregivers to be responsive to their needs. Children thrive in environments where they can explore and play in a safe environment. Their needs ought to be met and not neglected. They do not need to be exposed to stress. As a parent and/or caregiver to support healthy brain development you can constantly talk to the child, read to your child, meet their needs, and offer them a safe place to explore and play. Speaking and reading to children increase their language and communication skills. “Nurturing a child by understanding their needs and responding sensitively helps to protect children’s brains from stress” (CDC, 2021). Exposure to stress can negatively affect brain development. When children are at risk, it can cause them a delay in accomplishing developmental milestones. They will distrust people if their needs are not constantly being met.
This topic is important to me because in the school that I work at we have a high population of students who needs are not being met. When they get into the classroom, before I can teach them anything I have to meet their needs whether it be feeding them or giving them extra attention. I have even gone as far to buy clothes and shoes for students. This affected the students’ learning. They were usually the ones that were below grade level in the classroom. When having conversations with the parents, they want better for their children but did have the resources or just did not know.
I will need support from pediatricians, early childhood educators, and counselors to help inform parents and caregivers about the importance of brain development and optimizing brain development.

My Purpose
Advocating for young children should be a leader’s main priority to ensure that they become lifelong learners beyond the classroom. There are a plethora of ways to ensure success amongst young learners. Many leaders advocate for change in ways that they see as best or are passionate about. When someone is passionate about a particular change, they will do what is needed to promote change. I have always been passionate about closing the literacy gap amongst young readers. I have noticed that there is a major gap in literacy, especially in low economically challenged communities. I have taught second-grade EIP self-contained classrooms for years. Every year, I have heard from the administration that I should expect little to no growth from these students because they are too far behind or not capable of making real growth. I couldn’t believe what I heard because all children are capable of learning if given the necessary tools to succeed. Therefore, I am providing this professional development to give teachers tools for advocating for young children and supporting closing the literacy gap. This will hopefully change the mindset of all educators as well as administrators who believe children are just too far behind to catch up or able to learn.

Infancy and toddlerhood is a bases to the beginning of learning to communicate and
read to get through life with ease. Infancy and toddlerhood stages are very essential to
societal outcome in later life. Having interaction with adults and other children open up
new experiences for the brain. It allows children to learn to communicate and interact
with one another.
The brain will process what a person has been taught as an infant and use those
experience to communicate effectively in society when they are older.
3. Goodness of Fit
As a teacher I will treat every situation different but I will follow standards and
provide care to each child as they arise. I will respect the child as an individual
and create a safety net between the child, parent and the teacher. Providing
predictability can ease a child’s mind and lessen their stress. Most of all you need
to pay close attention for children that are expressing any signs of stress because
it affects the goodness of fit.
Children have a hard time learning if all they are doing is worrying. Children are
more likely to have problems in the future. It can be prevented through the help
of the parents and teachers and be addressed early. To alleviate stress in a child’s
classroom environment you can promote a relationship and social support to
build a secure relationship to manage a stressor.
As a teacher you can respond to queues that children give off that indicate sad
faces or body language.
4. My Understanding of Child Development
The four major components to a comprehensive curriculum are philosophy, goals and
objectives, classroom activities, and child assessment. Many curricula are based on
general goals and objectives such as fostering independence, responsibility, and self –
esteem. Curriculum must be culturally salient and locally relevant and meaningful to
the community according to NAEYC standards. The Curriculum should reflect the
needs of the children, parents, and teachers.
The environment and the program will determine the overall quality and effectiveness
of a program. Developing a curriculum should foster children’s needs, interests,
parental value, expectations, community cultures, and teacher’s abilities. A teacher’s
role in decision making in curricula is essential for implementing the curriculum.
A good learning environment should involve children, parents and the teacher.
Feedback from the children and parents are essential in a teacher and planning the
curriculum. Teachers can use multiple skills in their curriculum to stimulate the
children’s learning and the help form the parents to practice the skills at home.
5. Developmentally Appropriate Practice In A
Classroom
Knowing what is typical at each age and stage of early development is crucial. This
knowledge, based on research, helps us decide which experiences are best for
children’s learning and development.
Knowing what is individually appropriate. What we learn about specific children
helps us teach and care for each child as an individual. By continually observing
children’s play and interaction with the physical environment and others, we learn
about each child’s interests, abilities, and developmental progress. Knowing what
is culturally important.
We must make an effort to get to know the children’s families and learn about the
values, expectations, and factors that shape their lives at home and in their
communities. This background information helps us provide meaningful, relevant,
and respectful learning experiences for each child and family.
6. Responsiveness Used In A Classroom
Responsive teaching and caregiving involves creating a safe environment and one that
is predictable. It is an environment that provides a variety of materials to explore and is
accompanied by sensitive, caring and dependable interactions with consistent adult
caregivers. Responsive caregiving focuses on each child and how they develop a sense
of well-being, belonging, exploration, communication, and the contributions they make
to their world. The interactions between caregivers and children provide nurturing,
protective and stable relationships that are necessary for the children’s development.
The level of responsiveness relates to the experiences of a caregiver and an infant in
how they develop secure attachment, child gives response, shows interest, and
predictability. Positive and responsive interaction between a child and a caregiver
strengthens their relationship. The level of responsiveness models being contingent,
appropriate, and prompt. The effect of the responsiveness would be that an infant
would bond and become attached to a caregiver.
Early bonding and attachment is one of the first and most important part of early
childhood development. Responsive caregiving mirrors, and models a parent-infant
relationship.
