The proposed music video would tell the narrative story of a young woman gaining confidence and independence after a breakup. It would show her going about her daily activities like walking confidently through the city, succeeding at her job, and socializing with friends. The video aims to empower women by portraying the main character as strong, self-assured, and able to overcome challenges without needing to change herself. It would use conventions of bright colors and linking visuals to lyrics, while challenging stereotypes by not depicting the woman as weak or emotional after the breakup.

2. Reasons why I want to do
this particular song…
• This song has a strong powerful to women, and
portrays the message that you don’t need to change
yourself in anyway for anyone, especially not for a boy.
The song oozes confidence and power to women, and
has such an uplifting beat to it which I feel you could
create a really punchy, powerful, fitting music video to
coincide with the lyrics.
• The song is also relatable for teens, as it is dealing
with a break up, and yet portrays a message of
strength which is normally not shown and thus, many
would take comfort in this song.

3. Style of the video…

• Narrative / Performance
• Due to the lyrics having a strong sense of independence and
self-worth, I think the best style of music video to use would
be a narrative video as we would create a clear storyline to
coincide with the lyrics.
• Narrative videos are my preference when it comes to
watching a music video, as I love the whole aspect of the
‘journey’ of a music video, as it links with the music and you
understand the lyrics in greater depth and I want to recreate
this within my own video.
• There would also be performance elements of the young
women singing, to emphasise her confidence and her story.

4. How would I do this?
• The video itself would follow a young female adult (20/21), who would be walking through a city oozing confidence and self-worth,
in a fashionable outfit, walking through a crowd along the streets.
• It would track her walk, her business and contrasts stereotypes, and shows her in her job (in which she is higher up and displays
her strength in getting back to herself after her break).
• It would also as the song develops and talks about in the post-chorus of ‘tell me I’m too crazy, you can’t tame me’. It would feature
her singing whilst partying and being with her friends.
• The whole idea of this music video, is to have her in three or four main locations (streets, work, with her friends), and her
confidence and feeling of self-worth is strongly shown, as she displays how she doesn’t need to change and she’s still worth so
much regardless of her heartbreak.
• Camera: Long shots would be used to show her waking, and her outfit, and her surroundings, to show how she isn’t fearful of
anything. Close ups would be used mainly to show her emotions, so the audience can clearly see her confidence and happiness
and be inspired by her strength.
• Editing: the editing would match the pace of the music (to link with Goodwin, there would be strong links between the lyrics and
visuals such as ‘open the door’ would be matched in time with a shot of her opening the door). Fast paced editing would be used
during the chorus, and would feature numerous jump cuts to show numerous shots of her doing her daily life activities.
• Mise en Scene: Her outfits would change depending on her location – such as at work, she would be wearing formal clothes such
as a suit or appropriate skirt and blouse. In contrast to this, when walking on the streets she would be wearing heels and a tight
confident outfit, not to sexualize her, but to show she still feels amazing and confident. Locations such as the city would be used to
show she can do anything, and walk the same streets as anyone and no one would know of her heartbreak. Actors needed would
be the female, and a few extras to create scenes with her friends and people on the streets and in her work environment. Her ex
would not be featured, to show that she doesn’t need him and she’s over him.

5. Conventions & Genre
• The song itself is a pop song, which mainly feature bright happy
colours, and typically have a ‘feel good’ vibe to them.
• I would use this convention within my own video, as it works well with
the lyrics themselves. I would increase the brightness in many of the
shots, and film tactically on a sunny day to have the bright blue sky in
the background of most of the shots.
• Conventionally, they use attractive actors, however I want to focus
more on the confidence in general of the actor and although the
appearance will show this obviously, the ‘attractiveness’ as such I am
not bothered about.
• I am going to be using Goodwins ideas about linking the visuals to
lyrics, to make the video easier to understand and have more of an
impact. Such as the lyrics: ‘then finish your glass of wine’ – I will
visually show this (if possible).

6. Representation

I want to represent age
stereotypically to an extent,
as many people have the
stereotype embedded within
them that all teenagers and
young people care about is
their love life. Which is
highlighted in the video, and
is the main theme, however,
it displays a different side of
love lives and the strength
young people do have to
overcome such heartbreak.
However, outfits will be
stereotypical to the girls, in
heels and girly clothes.
• Gender
This video would challenge the normal
stereotype of women, as normally women are
seen to suffer the most in relationships and are
weak and emotional. However, this video will
have a strong emphasize on the self-worth of
women and their ability to overcome anything.
It will empower women, which is something
that is rare within the music industry and music
videos. However, some aspects of the video
will be stereotypical in the representation as
the women will be wearing makeup, and girly
clothes, and potentially tight clothes – however,
this isn’t of the male gaze, but herself.
