There are numerous factors in a courtroom trial that can significantly affect the verdict reached by
jurors and can potentially influence whether the perpetrator of crime is ultimately convicted or is
acquitted. In this essay I will explore several of these factors including how the personal
characteristics of the defendant (e.g. attractiveness, gender and race) persuasion techniques (e.g.
order of testimony) and jurycharacteristics can determine the conviction of a criminal.
Psychological research has shown that the attractiveness can influence jury decisions with studies
demonstrating an attractive bias in that attractive defendants tend to receive more lenient sentences
for similar crimes carried out by less attractive people. For example, Castellow et al (1990) aimed
to test the effect of the attractiveness of a defendant on guilty verdicts. This was done by
conducting a lab experiment in which 145 students were given details of a sexual harassment case
and then shown images of a defendant victim. These images had been previously categorised as

In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer paints the characters of the General Prologue in a
somewhat ironic light, offering cynicism and criticism as the poet through the naГЇve observations
of his own fictional personification. One character portrait that receives Chaucer s cynicism is that
of the monk, who, on the first read through, seems to be a jolly monk with a healthy habit of
hunting, but on closer inspection is not all that he seems. In this characterization, Chaucer

Within this reflective journal I intend to analyse my work within the unit BA1b. I started this unit
inspired to improve as much as possible.
The first task was to create a sequential film. The idea of this incredibly daunting as I had next to
no experience with filming or editing. After practicing with the filming and editing using cameras
and Adobe Premier in an induction , I still didn t feel very confident. This is where I got the idea
for stop motion from. I made good use of primary and secondary research by experimenting with

charities in the world for giving dying children one last wish and making it come true for them. I
remember in middle school one of my friend s brothers had cancer and so his parents reached out
